as long as you do well on the 2 midterms no final needed...class attendence and assignments are essential
Heavy Italian Accent but you will get used to it. It was a fun class. She can PMS so don't get on her bad side. Class is easy overall. She gives practice exams that are exactly like test. The essay is the hardest part. Don't take it lightly.
I agree with the heavy Italian accent, she went over and over many topics, the practice exams were great. I think she overall she was an excellent teacher. I'd take a class from here again.
this teacher is a good teacher but sometimes she has an attitude and her lectures are not organized at all. she jumps from one thing to another and her very heavy accent doesn't help either. her exams are ok but the online worksheets are pointless. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND FOR ANYONE TO TAKE HER!!!!!
This teacher expects a lot from you. Her exams are in essay form. You must have concise answers or she will deduct points. Most people failed the first exam, but she does curve the class in the end. I'd take recommend taking another teacher unless you like an abrasive style of teaching.
I had no problem with her accent what so ever. Shes really passionate about teaching and cares about her students. Her exams are a bit tough, but I thought they were more than fair. It was one of the few times being in an econ course where I felt I was l
Overall a decent teacher, her accent was really not an issue for me. one problem I had was she goes over the same thing several classes in a row and teaches like she is teaching it for the first time. Watch for tricky wording every once in a while on her tests, but other than that her class is manageable. Also her final was easier than expected.
STOP! Turn around and take a different professor! She only offers this class once a year so if you are going to take this class, make sure you pass if you don't. Well, pray to GOD that you can some how pursueade her inchanging your grade, cuz your stuck with it. Oh, and she won't so dont bother. Hard grader and hard tests.
One of the easiest Econ 315 professors at CSUF if you study her practice exams. She offers practice exams and if you do well on it, then you will do well on the tests. Attendance is 4% EC if you attend every session and sign the role sheet. Only 63% to get a C. Best two out of three quizzes, with lowest one dropped.
Was a summer class and it was vry hard material especially chapter 5. But since it's only a 5 week course there wasn't time to forget what was learned. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS! and understand every problem on it. This is the only to get a good grade as possible. Sit as close to the board. I got a B and I'm a straight C student.
Ok so this class isnt too difficult. basic econ class. supply/demand all that good stuff. as for the teacher...she annoyed me. she would get mad @ the class for not answering her ambiguous questions. kept sayin' "this baby right here." regardless, i would recommend. pretty easy class.
I ended up with a B in her class. She's very honest and is straight-forward with her grading scale. She talks about cheap beers, natural cigarettes, and life in general. She is hilarious. She says, "This baby right here" and "this type of an animal" with a high pitch voice. Also, she gives extra credit! She has great assets. Take her.
You have to memorize a LOT of stuff. No cheat sheet or anything allowed with exams. Do not fall behind, do not miss one homework assignment, and give yourself a LOT of time to study all of the covered material. A lot of the material is easy to understand, but the hard part is memorizing EVERYTHING after you understand everything.
She just doesn't seem to care. She frequently misses class and when she does show up, she ends class too early to actually go over the material. If you approach her in office hours, she assumes you did not pay attention in class and berates you rather than helping. If you can avoid her for math econ, do so.
She has a very thick accent and is barley understandable. Hard grader and assigns a lot of reading and memorization. Overall, would not recommend.
One of the best economic teacher i've ever met. she know what she is teaching, and test on those thing. very nice lady. her class not that easy, but if u follow her instruction, u will be fine.
Great Professor. Her accent is awesome and will help keep you awake, it's not hard to understand. She has some good stories that might make you laugh. You can tell she knows her stuff and if you pay attention it's really easy...Study, practice the problems she assigns, and it's an easy A
Great teacher and very straight-forward. She has a thick accent but she is still very understandable. She gives good examples and good review for studying for tests. It is important that you go to every class, and if you do, you will be fine. Attendance is not mandatory, but every once in awhile she will take attendance and give extra credit.
Where do I start. She is the worst professor i have ever taken. She is very rude and don't even bother asking her questions bcuz she won't help you. Not only does she profile people. For those that she thinks r not good students she puts them in the spot asking what grade they got on the last exam. And if that person said they got an A or B she would make them feel dumb. Saying no way YOU got that. I can't believe it. Overall she is horrible
this class is not to be taken lightly, it is a very hard subject. you must, must do your homework or else you will fail! the homework is not mandatory, but the tests are nothing but the homework problems. the teacher is a really good professor, just she is very "intimidating" but dont let her discourage you from asking questions or office hours.
She's fairly easy, boring as hell though. she gives extra credit for going to class. tests are hard but there is no homework.
I didn't have to study very hard but reading the book helps A LOT. I never did the homework(not mandatory) and managed to get an A. Her lectures are pretty dry and sometimes when people ask questions, she doesn't answer very clearly or gets defensive. Drops one exam and quizzes are open notes.
This can be a hard class, but if you read all the chapters assigned in the book and go to every class you should do fine. She can be intimidating, but if you go to office hours she will try to help you. At the end she drops the lowest test and quiz score.
Professor Gratton is intimidating but she's a great professor. Her lectures are clear. I didn't read the book and got a B. She gives out optional HW, 2 midterms and drops 1, and 4 quizzes and drops 1. Final is comprehensive. There's a term paper that's easy but she grades hard on grammar. Pay attention in class and you should do fine.
She's a good teacher, cares about the class, and is kind of funny at times. The material can be hard but she does a good job of teaching it and provides good study material. Recommended.
Gratton is one of the most unorganized and dry/boring teachers ever. Her econ 201 class is below average, and after taking econ 315 it really shows how much she neglected to cover for the next level. Gratton's course will not prepare you for next step. Take Mummery/Howard/Gill/Farka instead for a good econ 201 experience.
Professor was well organized and gave many clear examples that really helped to understand the material. I didn't open the book once just attended every class and got an A. I enjoyed her teaching very much so. Just attend class every session and take notes and you'll get an A.
Not very satisfied with the way she taught the class. There are 4 quizzes, 2 exams, and a final. HW is optional. She drops the lowest quiz and exam. She is strict on the grading, she is not helpful, and she is rude. Also not very good in answering questions. Overall, she's pretty tough. I don't recommend taking her.
She was not awful but i would definitely say she is rude and hard to understand. Her classes are so boring and she uses response card during class so it is mandatory. I would not recommend her but if you have to, just know you are going to have to lean yourself.
Book isnt neccessary. Just DO the ungraded homework and practice exams she posts on titainium. They're key to getting a good grade on the exams.Go to her office hours for a better understanding of the concepts.I wouldn't attend class if it weren't for her clicker questions. Turn in a draft of the paper she assigns.Make sure your grammar is correct!
She teaches off her powerpoints, 4 quizzes, 2 tests and a final, online homework and 1 paper. She drops 1 quiz and 1 test. Study the practice guides and youll be fine.
Web is highly utilized in this course. The textbook was required and expensive, but it was helpful, however IMO attendance is mandatory. She DOES post notes online, so if you're intuitive and bright, you can pass w/o attendance (however, she gave EC at for attendance sporadically) Great Prof who is passionate and very helpful, and easy to talk to,
Took this last semester and got a C. It was an easy pass, but some of my classmates said it was hard to get an A. She gives you open book quizzes and drops the lowest exam. Attendance is not mandatory, but she does offer extra credit for showing up. However, I will say that the class was boring and I began blowing it off by the end.
Goes on tangents, sometimes hard to understand with her accent. Didn't use the book and got an A. Seriously, don't buy the book.
Class can sometimes get boring. Attend class or you won't understand what's going on. 2 exams and 1 final. She drops the lowest exam and quiz score.
Professor was not helpful. Talks about herself and goes off topic. Hard to understand due to accent and talks fast. Condescending towards students that do not get the right answer. Class is pretty dry. She made a good first impression, but then it went downhill from there. An A is possible I was just lazy. I do not recommend taking this professor.
I don't know why so many people are bashing on her. She legitimately cares about the subject and wants her students to do well. I don't think she is rude, but just comes off as abrasive; and like most Italians, she's not afraid to tell it like it is. Some people may take this the wrong way. Just attend class and do the homework and you'll do fine.
This teacher was not that great. Her first impression was good but from there the class was very dry and boring. I did not receive a good grade because there is only 2 midterms and a final. There was barely any homework and no quizzes. She checks attendance once in a while, usually for extra credit.
If you do your homework and study the materials she uploads onto titanium you will deff get a good grade.
Hardly responds to my emails in regards to hw or office hours. Lectures are very dry and boring. Prepare to zone the F out!
Her lectures can be boring but they did help me learn the material. The book and connect plus were really helpful and you have to study the practice she posts on titanium to get a good grade on the tests. Its also helpful to actually learn the concept of the material because she will word the same question 5 different ways which can be confusing.
Lectures were long, boring and hard to understand at first. She stutters when she talks and she also has an Italian accent. Homework is rarely given and it's very time consuming. Her class is consists of 2 midterms, a final, and an essay. However, get ready to study and read a lot because she can not teach. Do no recommend taking.
IF you take this class in a big lecture hall be prepared to listen to a LONG AND BORING LECTURE. You have to pay attention to the whole lecture to get the subject. Grade consist of online homework, 2 hard test, a paper and a CUMULITIVE FINAL. I WOULD AVOID THIS PROFFESSOR.
Chiara did a wonderful job explaining standard material and difficult concepts. He explanations were crystal clear. I took away a lot of useful information from this class. She is very friendly and, at times, funny.
She was funny at first, but her lectures get a little boring after a while. Two tests, cumulative final and a writing project. For how bad her grammar is, she is super hard on grammar on the writing assignment. Overall, a fun teacher, you just have to really grasp the concepts to understand and pass the class. Test questions are pretty confusing.
She did come off as a bit aggressive, but she's funny! Her lectures are a bit dry (mainly reading off PowerPoint) and she can be hard to understand. Hence, making her tests even tougher. For the most part, you have to teach yourself. But, she does offer quite a few EC opportunities (that's if you attend class). I'd recommend buying the book though
Took this class to get rid of a GE. Her lectures are difficult to follow because of her heavy accent as well as her tendency to stop and start mid-sentence without finishing her thought. The supplemental questions she posts online as "optional" homework were most helpful to doing well on her exams. Showing up to class earns you extra credit.
She is a very nice professor. A lot of Extra credits offered. If you understand what she emphasizes in class, you will pass.
All of the negative reviews were probably given by people who did not study. She offers so much extra credit in class thats super easy. Attendance isnt mandatory. Only a short paper, 2 midterms, 1 final cumulative. Her lectures are long but thats only because she wants you to understand the topic Shes nice and funny. Never needed physical copy book
She has a thick italian accent, but it's more than easy to still understand her. She is great at explaining the concepts and I learned well in her class. People who did bad simply didn't study. She offers a good amount of extra credit that should help a lot. She does review sessions before the exams (even on a Sunday). I would recommend her!
The class isn't too difficult as long as you understand her lectures and do the review problems she assigns on Titanium. I recommend reviewing the powerpoint slides before class which helped me out a lot. She gives a good amount of extra credit which boosted my grade. WARNING, she grades extremely hard on the paper especially regarding grammar.
Professor Gratton is lecture heavy. Lectures the entire class time. Bases tests off lectures. Some of the test questions are worded confusingly. Also, she grades the writing assignment too strictly for her english skills. Also, she will usually not reply to email, so if you need help, you have to go to her office hours. She does give extra credit.
She is a nice professor when you speak to her, however, her lectures were not so effective with information. She has a strong Italian accent so it was hard to follow sometimes as she lectures. 2 midterms, 1 final, 1 writing assignment. She would tell you to read the book rather than explaining the material during office hours which wasnt helpful.
If you have to take her, then take her, otherwise, try finding another professor. She lectures on powerpoints the most and sometimes she makes it difficult to understand the material. Her exams were okay, but you mainly have to teach yourself the material as she can confuse you. Definitely would not recommend.
She can be nice, at times. However, her teaching style is not the greatest. She relies heavily upon her powerpoints lecture and will sometimes illustrate examples on the board, but can be unclear as she tries to cram everything in one side of the board. Overall, she is okay, but if you can take it with someone else, take it. Gives lots of EC!
She was really nice to everyone, make sure to sit in the front. DO NOT think of using your phone because she will ask you to leave, I have seen it. A lot of extra credit, exams aren't that hard if you study from the study guide. Make sure to understand the extra credit because you will see them again on the EXAM.
Pay attention and you'll be fine. A little difficult to work with, but exams are definitely passable. Dont need the textbook if you have taken ECON in highschool. The paper is a little difficult if you aren't a good writer. Not the easiest A but tons of EC to help you get there.
Very thick accent but very knowledgeable. Absolutely no electronics in class at all or she'll kick you out. We had 3 exams a research paper and some homework. She gives a lot of extra credit that helps with the exams. She doesn't take attendance so you don't have to show up all the time but if you want a good grade I suggest you do.
She has a thick accent. She says whats on her mind. Lectures are filled important information. Willing to answer any question. Study guides are very helpful. Gives extra credit opportunities randomly so you must attend class. Test questions should not be a surprise if you listened to class and studied. Overall excellent professor.
If you get stuck with her like I did, it's not the end of the world, just your world is going to suck more. Her weird, STRONG Italian accent doesn't exactly hinder lectures but what does is her love of hearing her loud ass voice say nothing in particular for several minutes at a time or over explain a simple concept the class got 20 minutes ago. :l
Chiara as she prefers to be called is definitely a good choice for econ. She is really funny and explains her topics well, but tends to overdo her lectures at times. Thick Italian accent makes things hard to follow, but understandable. 2 exams, 1 final, and a writing assignment which is rather simple. Overall a solid teacher, take at your own risk.
The rudest teacher I have ever come across. She doesn't make sense half the time and her teaching style is impossible to learn from. You pretty much end up teaching yourself everything. do NOT take her, you will hate your life
NO CELLPHONES/ELECTRONICS allowed in class, as she is not afraid to yell at you in front of 50+ students. I didn't come to class as much as I should have because lectures were VERY boring . But if you do show up, she offers extra credit. All in all, it's a class you take to get out of the way. Not an easy A Doable B if you go to class Easy C
go to class, do the optional assignments, DONT USE ELECTRONICS!!, and pay attention and it'll actually be a pretty straightforward class; the only reason it may be as difficult as some people say is if you fight her advice or fail to follow along with her lectures (she has an accent but is still pretty easy to follow)
Her teaching skill is terrible PLUS shes the rudest professor I came across. Get ready to sleep her class and study outside of her class.
Rude professor but explains some things clearly. No electronics or else she will call you out. There will e online hw on Connect so you would need to buy an access code. She posts her powerpoints and study guides and A LOT of practices for each chapter. Gives a lot of extra credit in class with open notes. EC is actually the practices she posted.
3 Exams, online homework, 1 written assignment. To pass, you need to read the book and do her study guides. I was able to manage because I had to self-teach the concepts and material. She does give lots of extra credit so be sure to go to class for those. I highly recommend reading the book to pass this class.
Decent professor, but R U D E. If you have a question, get ready to be patronized
To be honest I think she is a very good professor because her teaching actually makes me understand the material without reading much of the textbook. Just don't use your phone in class.
NO ELECTRONICS! Very intimidating at first but actually funny. Provided many resources on Titanium related to the exams. Easy homework on Connect. Textbook isn't absolutely necessary. Just pay attention in class and review her practice questions.
She's pretty funny, and its obvious she knows econ well.
Horrible professor. She shames you if you have questions, doesnt fully cover class material. Very rude lady. Would not take her again.
Lectures do not help with tests. Homework does not correlate with tests questions. Will get upset if you ask a question.
The class lectures do not relate with any of the exams in the class. She will make fun of any student, who asks a simple question in front of the class.
Homework and showing up to class do not relate with exams. Spends a whole lecture on a simple graph that should only take ten minutes at most.
Gets frustrated when asking questions. Spends too much time on simple concepts. Does not say what exactly to study to prepare for tests.
Horrible Class
Pretty tough teacher. Show up as she lectures a lot and goes over powerpoints. Attendance is points. There are 2 Midterms and a Culmative Final Exam. All Exams are pretty tough. Show up, pay attention and put effort into studying and the class is manageable.
At the beginning of the semester, classes were mandatory because she had a sign-in sheet but since its quarantine, her zoom lectures are not. Her tests are a little tough but I would recommend using all of her resources under the class page because they kinda help. You need to buy access to do online homework but it also comes with an online book.
She isn't the sweetest person and that scares students. If you aren't bothered by intensity, she is a great professor. The book and lectures are easy to follow, she explains in detail, she offers lots of extra credit, and the course moves at a steady pace so everyone typically keeps up. The exams are not hard if you study.
Fairly easy class, it entirely lectures. Participation isn't required, no group projects, or presentations. Only hw given is on a website that you need to buy the code for (cost about $85) & it is basically just filling in definitions for each chapter. Isn't very flexible with turning in late work so stay on track. Attendance is taken every class.
Professor Chiara is actually very nice and humorous. Just follow her class rule - no phone or electronics in class, or she will call you out! Buy the code online for the homework (it also comes with online textbook), give lots extra credit opportunities in class, participation is mandatory.
Rude. I took this class and it was completely online, no zoom meetings or anything like that. I need help with a topic so I went to her office hours and she told me I shouldn't be at office hours bc i should know the material and also lashed out at me when i took nots during office hours. Notes that were given didn't explain the topics well
She can be rude at times but I like to think of it as her way of pushing us and joking around to a certain extent. If you can get over that then her class is passable for sure . I really enjoyed how lectures were not mandatory. Study and do all connect assignments. I wish I could have met her in real life, there seems to be a lot to get to know.
Her class is okay, she does come off as rude sometimes and her zoom lectures are very monotone but attendance isn't mandatory. The workload isn't too difficult, as long as you can work through the homework you should be fine.
I feel like giving her a 2 was too generous :) Do not expect her to help you during office hours. I went to office hours and she did not help me + criticized me for "not studying." She gave up on posting lectures for the asynchronous class (I had to ask her to post, even then she lagged). At least she took off the bad grades from the final grade
I feel like the McGraw Hill connect system basically taught this class. She provided a few lectures, and the lectures provided hardly expanded on the topics. Little patience during office hours. Not terrible, just not the best either.
Professor can seem quite rude, but is not too bad. Lectures can be heavy but this class was not difficult. A fair amount of assignments were given which helped boost your grade. Not too many tests and they were also fair. There is only one paper. I definitely recommend this class if you do not want to stress out.
This professor is really hard to get to, she reads her powerpoints and only explains her own terms during the last 15 minutes, quizzes are easy it gets hard on midterms. She expects you to know more than what she actually teaches.
This was my most boring class. Lots of homework and she's pretty passive aggressive when someone asks a question at all. Overall it wasn't that bad and I would take this professor again. Definitely seen worse since virtual learning.
Terrible! Worst prof at CSUF! Do not take!! She needs to be fired! Rude, incompassionate, disrespectful! She does not care about her students at all and wants to make their lives miserable. honestly, she is the worst professor I have ever had. I have never met someone in my entire life who is this rude and insensitive. Tests are super hard!
She administers tests later in the evening and I think it can be very difficult for example I have a quiz due tomorrow and it opens at 8 pm. She can be helpful if you show up during office hours.
Her lectures were alright and she does emphasize aspects that are important for us to know which were a bit helpful. In all, I would say if you take good notes and really understand the concepts from mainly the assignments and powerpoints, youll do well on the exams. The tests are only hard if you don't put the effort to truly learn the material.
