Most boring, unenthusiastic instructor ever. Arguably the worst I've ever had @ Cap College. She told everyone that yawning in class was not allowed & once told me "no talking in class" - when I was asking her a question! Avoid this woman if you can possibly help it!
Very good teacher; she is helpful and very nice.
Very nice person.
She is very helpful, clear notes, very organized. She is there to help and always encourages her students to do well. She is particular about certain things, although it is Econ, and its a class where paying attention is important, unless your a wiz. She is a great teacher, and has an organized way when she lectures.
she's one of the best instructors i've had in college so far, she seemed awful on the first day of class for setting so many ridiculous rules but then i really like her way of teaching...she knows her stuff. she changed my whole impression of economics. the course is not that difficult afterall, it's actually fun.
She is the best instructor in Cap college , pretty good class , very easy understading , She is Pretty Hot..... to bad she is marry well , You never know . One thing , She make me like Economy , i hated before , now it does not seem to bad .
she was hard to understand at first, but you get used to the jap. accent. Other than that, she was a great ECON teacher - not too laid back, but not strict either. Very approachable, and comes to class very prepared, with great learning material.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had at the college. She did not explain anything and over half of the class failed.
Good Professor, a little repetitive from the book, but its an intro course so that was expected. As long as you read and attend class, an A is a shoe in.
she is the worst teacher i have ever had! she told our class that we are at capilano college because we don't have high enough marks to be at UBC. She doesn't help when you ask a question, just laughs at you and makes you feel stupid! there is no point in going if you don't understand because she won't help! if you get her, read the text book alot
She seems to have a complex. She tells her students that they attend Capilano College, because they can't get in anywhere else. Waste of time, don't take her class
Her tests are fairly easy, and she wasn't strict in her marking. She is helpful when called on for assistance but her accent seems to bother some students. Most quiz and even final exam questions came straight from the textbook.
She is crystal clear in the sense that you can predict her tests/exams. Alot of her test questions come straight out of the textbook or your assignments; so if you do the work, there is no way you would get anything below an A-. You might not like her because of her eccentric personality or her difficult accent, but otherwise, I am glad I had her.
A wonderful, funny, and engaging teacher. If you come in with a positive attitude and are willing to work she'll deliver. And this is a course where you NEED to work hard to get top grades. I honestly had no problems with Chieko's Japanese accent - her English is better than half the students. I'd take another course with her in a minute.
i took this course in the summer. it was fairly easy if you read the textbook and do those questions at the back of each chapter. her accent isn't too bad still understandable. there were 2 quizes and take home assignments that are worth 1% each.
Cheko is stupid, she gives no help, she writes and never explains, if you have her drop it she is absolutlety no help to anyone
Really sweet teacher. I had no idea what I was doing, and her lessons really helped me learn the material and how it was applicable to every day life. Highly recommend her.
Class is structured, but instructor confuses the material. It's easier to just self teach from the book than learn in class. Chieko spends the class writing notes on the board but doesn't let her students make the connections, the end result is static teaching.
If you listen in class, write good notes, do lyryx consistently, and go to every class you will get at least a B I guarantee it. The only issue is the material is somewhat boring. The class breakdown is very fair as well consisting of a midterm, final, 2 quizzes, lyryx, and 8 assignments each worth 1%.
Very nice lady - cares about her students. She is very organized and tries her best. It's hard to listen to her in class though. I found it much easier to learn by reading the chapters and working through all the q's in the back of each one. Better than taking a class with Joey S. or Amir G that's for sure.
She wasted so much time in the first two months on stuff with little importance and the last week of class we had to squeeze all the important stuff in. Online textbook makes it hard to concentrate while studying. She cannot spell, and is not clear with her intructions.
Shes a nice lady who tries hard but isnt a good teacher. Its so hard to learn from here, all my quizzes, midterm and final i studied of the book. Her notes never help! I wouldn't recommend her to you, i came into final with a b+ left with b-, Chieko is nice but very hard to understand if you want to learn something don't take her class.
Attendance was not mandatory, she teaches the textbook down to a T, using the same examples. I attended less than half the classes and got a B. No language barrier, but she has an accent.
She is very approachable and nice. Some(most) questions in the quizzes, midterm, and final exam came straight from the practice questions in the book!
Very nice lady but the absolute WORST prof. Notes are all over the place-very disorganized-cant study with them.Tests are easy IF you read the book, questions are from the end of chapter MC.Got an A overall but only from self study, her lectures are confusing & all she talks about is sushi.Take a different prof, especially if you rely on class notes.
This is a really tough course, and she doesn't make it any easier. First of all, her accent is difficult to understand, but when you get past that you realize what she's saying isn't very useful. Often gets distracted and wastes time, and sometimes gets frustrated with you if you don't understand something. Wouldn't recommend her.
I do NOT recommend taking her courses. She is honestly the worst teacher I've ever had. Hard to understand what she was saying because of her asian accent. She knows what to write, but doesn't know how to explain it. Also, her spelling was awful
she should not be allowed to teach at university level. highschool maybe. She is the worse prof ever and everyone that took her class knows that. if you see people writing good stuff about her its probably her self writing it. trust me, you dont want to take a class with her
Chieko is mean. She wants you to fail. she straight up told the class that she wouldn't take questions out of the textbook to put on the quiz/midterm/final, but that's all she ever used. She's setting you up to fail. She uses poor examples and gets mad when you don't understand. don't take her classes EVER.
Not a good professor. Everything she says is right from the textbook but somehow makes it more difficult to understand. Makes the room feel awkward and by the end of the class, the board is covered in a mess of notes that don't make sense and were poorly explained (and often misspelled) throughout. Regretting taking her section of this class.
Her class may be unclear sometimes, but should be easy if you do all readings.
As a teacher she doesn't care for the success of her students. She is really just there to earn aliving. She is also obsessed with making sure you come to class and pay attention, but this seems to be a theme with economics teachers at cap. All in all she is mediocre at best.
Chieko was a good teacher. If you pay attention in class, read the textbook, and do the quizzes, it should be pretty easy to do well. It's very straightforward. She is also understanding if you have a valid reason to miss a class.
The toughest class I have ever taken. Her quizzes and tests are hard to understand and when she tells you what to study, there is nothing about it. Her explanation is bad and hard to understand after the class and the examples she uses.
Good teacher. Hard class? Yes. However I find her to be quite concise when she asks for homework. Most quizzes are multiple choice. I'm not getting the greatest mark, but that isn't due to her teaching ability, it's hard to teach your brain how to learn Economics. Would definitely recommend. Bit of an accent but easy to understand. She's funny.
Chieko's classes have very little structure. She does not provide handouts and her diagrams/notes which she writes on the board are disorganized and hard to follow. Before the final exam the class average for Macro was below 60%. I worked hard for an A-. I suggest doing all the online labs and chapter questions: if you do so, class is unnecessary.
while i have nothing against Chieko, she does not do the best job at actually teaching the course. Instead i found myself staring at the board while she wrote things down and spoke. I found that there wasn't as much explanation of topics as i would have liked. towards the end of the term i was frantically trying to teach myself how to do everything
Chieko makes you work for it. Her lectures are good and if you pay attention her notes explain things well. Anyone who rates Chieko badly needs to go back to High school to mature a bit. Clearly, they expect answers to be given to them and they don't want to put the work into getting a good grade.
she is a good teacher. Tries to keep the class entertaining. Make sure to write down all of her notes because those are the only things she's going to ask on the tests. Multiple choice is kinda hard but she tells you what questions she'll be asking for the short answer part
Unless you need to take economics as a program requirement, avoid taking this class with her. Expect to be ridiculed for asking simple questions and leaving class even more confused than before. Her lectures are extremely messy and disorganized, not to mention they contradict the textbook material. She is a poor excuse for an "educator."
I have no idea why her rating is so low. Really good teacher with very fair quizzes and tests. Best econ teacher at cap for sure.
The worst teacher out there to teach Economics, or even the worst teacher at Cap! She doesn't know how to explain anything. Notes are messy, and she just gives answers expecting you to know, and not explaining throughly. Maybe some students understand, but the majority of them just nod their heads. God, where's the evaluation form when you need it?
Not happy , not able to communicate material well Very poor ability to answer questions you might have
Chieko has clear expectations from the beginning. If you follow along and take down all the notes, you should be prepared as she is quite clear on what to study for. You will have to attend all the classes as she does not post detailed powerpoint slides. Otherwise, great instructor!
Great Teacher! Really enjoyed taking her class.
Good teacher. Quizzes are really easy! Would recommend.
great teacher good grader
Chieko is a good professor who provides a lot of examples. Her quizzes and midterms are based on her notes! Make sure you attend her class because the examples she gives in class are on the quizzes! Her grading consists of two midterms, many mc quizzes, one midterm, two article reports and one final. Her grading is also similar for ECON111.
She is a good professor. there are not much homework. your notes and practices through "Connect" are really important. Don't miss any classes. She will provide the questions on quizes, and midterm. Don't forget to review your midterm and quizes multiple choice. half of the multiple choice questions in final exam will be chosen from previous exams.
She did't give much homework. your lecture notes and practices through "Connect" are really important. She will provide the questions on quizes, and midterm. Don't forget to review your midterm and quizes multiple choice. half of the multiple choice questions in final exam will be chosen from previous exams.
Awful. Notes are very messy and very poor with explaining concepts. Ridicules students for taking bathroom breaks, in university? Really? Her exams and quizzes are easy if you read the textbook and teach yourself.
Absolutely love her. Would not take Econ with any other prof.
Explains the topics well and takes the time if students don't understand. She will make a joke about you of you're late for class. Recommend taking her class over other profs for all Econ classes.
Im glad that I took this course with her. she is really amazing and uses simple examples to make sure that everyone understands the materials. Recommended :)
TBh I passed this course, but she made me hate economics. I felt like elementary school in her class. even if u wanna take a washroom break you should ask her permission. not only she is super strict and awkward, but her lectures and power points are useless, you have to read and prepare at home and watch lots of youtube videos.
You MUST do your labs because it's the ONLY thing that will pull you through this class. Do them and write notes off them, and use them for studying. What you learn in class is JUST a tenth of what is really on your lab and tests. Chieko is the most decent teacher at Cap for Econ, no one else. She's really nice and caring as well. :)
Definitely struggled in this class. Chieko provided lots os support and always accessible outside of class. Her quizzes/test were difficult, she does give you the quizzes to reflect on.
really helpful w students, you have to put in work but she makes it worth it class was really enjoyable
Well she is a very nice prof. also she be teaching her stuff very well and will grade you nicely based on you answers (not strict like other prof.) She will give you quizzes to do which are super easy and she is always ready to help.
Lesson learned to NOT rely on these ratings. This is a warning to whoever attempts her class, she is a snake and will poison your GPA. She pulls Quizzes out of her a$$, and will not even consider the consequence of failing you. Out of touch with reality, don't put your student debt towards her.
She is very nice, and gives barely any homework for the in-person classes. If you have even a rudimentary understanding of economics, her class is an easy A.
Chieko is very warm natured and cares about her students. If you put your best foot forward she will go the extra mile for you. If you cheat, are lazy and entitled she won't. Any question I had in regards to assignments she was always quick to email back with guidance, or hop on zoom calls to go over things if I was having trouble understanding.
She's unique. She's a good person and tries to be funny and helpful, but hers lectures are very confusing because she doesn't speak enough English to articulate her thoughts. You have to learn by yourself if you want to get a good grade. My tip: It helps if you try to understand what you are doing instead of memorizing loose formulas and concepts.
I took both Micro and Macro with Chieko and she is a nice prod for sure, gives easy quizzes, easy homework, and gives quite some free marks from self-reflections, just make sure to keep on track or you will miss a lot of benefits. Tough course but would be the best professor you can choose to suffer with.
she is amazing and her lectures are not boring. The tests are exactly like what she says in class.
Chieko is a great teacher, she cares about her students, and her lectures are fantastic. Her grading is very split up and it is very easy to get a good grade in this course. Go to class as her lectures and group tasks at the end of classes are super helpful. Also is very transparent about what the midterm and final will consist of. Best teacher.
I don't know why there are bad reviews for Chieko, I've had her 3 times now and I'd take her again. She really loves economics and you can tell, she also cares about her students and I have a fun time in her classroom! Her in-person classroom is definitely worth it over online. As long as you study you'll do fine.
Chieko is the most amazing professor I have ever had. People who say that she pulls quizzes out of nowhere are insane because she always reminds you about it in class, always has it posted on eLearn, and the dates are stated in the syllabus. Sometimes she even tells you what to focus on when studying. She has such a warm and caring personality.
You will use a connect smart book for reading and homework, and will also do many in class activities. Every week or so a quiz on recent chapters. Be prepared to draw lots of graphs. If you are not strong with graph-analysis, study pre-calculus. You will see data tables, a few equations/formulas, and you will see plenty of multiple choice questions
Lovely prof. Her passion for econ is evident within her lectures, I hope to have her again!
THIS PROFESSOR IS VERY HARD ON STUDENTS SHE DOESN'T FIND ANY CHEMISTRY ON, SHE BARELY TAKES IT EASY WITH EXAMS, HEAVY GRADER DOESN'T ANSWER EMAILS YOU CANT EVEN TRACK YOUR GRADES DURING THE SEMESTER, AND WHEN YOU ASK HER WHAT IS MY AVERAGE SHE SAYS TO CALCULATE IT YOURSELF AT THE END YOU DONT KNOW HOW YOU GOT GRADED
Believe me when I tell you that you are not going to regret taking her class. She takes her job seriously and is brilliant at it. I would definitely say she is one of the best tutors I have ever had, she covers almost everything in her lectures and the lectures are fun to attend.
Chieko is quite funny/entertaining. As long as you show up to class, pay attention, don't constantly cause a ruckus, and don't always be on your phone, she'll be pretty nice to you. Only homework you really have to do are the online Connect Labs and questions. She gives reminders about any quizzes coming up. Exams/quizzes are exactly what she says.
Simply the ideal instructor. I really liked her lectures, it was not boring at all and yet very thorough. I just listened to her lectures and took the quizzes seriously and that got me through the semester easily. I definitely recommend her class as it was the best class I've had until now at Cap U.
This class was tough, even for an A+ student like me. I worked harder and learned a lot. If you're thinking about taking this class, go for it. You'll be surprised at how much you can grow in just 4 months!
Good teacher however can sometimes be confusing.
Zero rating
Does not give sufficient time for quizzes&tests (for the final exam: only 2.5/3hrs allowed despite students requesting to use the full 3, “I'll take it out of your hands at 2h30mins if you're still writing.”) Marked a quiz and said “I'm not posting your grades because the class average was below 50%.” Uses a bell curve to grade students!!!!!!
I use rate my profs religiously to make sure that I have a decent experience. I've had enough years at this same school to be able to say: take the positive ratings with CAUTION! A grain of salt. I attended every single class and am struggling - I ignored my 3 other classes (which i have high B's and A's in) only to focus on this one and fail.
no favourite student, grade fairly, kinda funny, that is enough for me
I loveee chieko. But you have to know how to handle her, at the beginning she was very rude and didn't care about excuses but some friends told me if I just participated in the classes she'd love me. I did that, told her my favorite flavor of ice cream, volunteered when she asked for someone and my friends and I won her heart.
Worst professor ever , Its not about marks or something but she didn't behave well with indian students that what i feel ,showing inappropriate behaviour, not even reply ur emails no matter if its urgent.
She's a good teacher and gives you a good foundation of economics. As long as you do the practice problem (which takes like 30 minutes to do a week) you should be chilling. I barely did any studying and pulled an A-
