DO NOT TAKE HER. She was the only option and a new professor. First exam 75% of the class got a D or F. She'll make you pay extra for a TopHat service. Activities, slides, and exams are on TopHat. Quizzes are on BB (not too bad) but it's NOTHING like the exam. Doesn't give partial credit for multiple answer questions.
Horrible professor! It's a shame she was the only option. More students got a D and F than students who got As, B's, and C's combined on the first exam. She spent the next class roasting us. Most students at this point know how to study for bio. She also assigns last second assignments, so if you are busy, take an L. If you can avoid her, DO IT!!!
Professor Huang uses a flip classroom method so you are expected to do all of your hw, class activities, studying before the lecture. She assigns quite a few assignments during the week. Make sure you do the readings and complete the concept list as a way to study because her exams can be worded very odd.
She doesn't teach. There is a lot of homework based off reading the text book and if you don't take notes from the textbook you wont get any notes. the lectures themselves are a waste of time yet you are required to show up since part of your grade is made from tophat questions.
she truly cares about her students learning but it is just so much work. in one week you'll get pre lecture assignments due mon&wed, packback due sun, & a quiz due mon.. then repeat. exams are online & CASE SENSITIVE. better know how to spell. so far i failed (>50%) 3/4 exams but i have a 70% because of everything else. so take that how you want.
If you registered for her, I suggest dropping her class or switching professors. Her tests are extremely hard and you will have to know the entire modules at the back of your hand. Homework and participation will be the only ones keeping your grade from failing.
Dr. Huang is a really awesome person, but her class is unnecessarily hard. Her tests kill you because they are super difficult and really hard to study for. But the other work in the class can bring your grade up a lot. Huang seems like she wants you to succeed but just makes her class too hard.
Huang is a good person, but her class is extremely difficult to get an A/B in. You have 3 exams in the class plus a final, and the exams are strictly all critical thinking and concepts so you have to really understand all of the material to get a good grade. Constantly gives TopHat homework, packback disussions & quizzes for every module. Nope.
She argued with the class that the primary sequence of a protein is made up of nucleotides, not amino acids. That's dead wrong and she wouldn't admit it.
Worst tests I have ever taken. Asks the on the most irrelevant parts of text that you will never need to know in future classes. Application of knowledge is rediculously specific and questions that cover the main concepts are unporportional. Wish I had looked at her rating before taking the class.
This was an insanely hard class to pass for an intro level bio lecture. If you think you're prepared for the exams, think again because you'll walk out of it feeling stupid. The exams are very detail heavy and so difficult no matter how well you think you know the material. So much reading and hw as well. Definitely avoid if possible.
While the work load was really heavy, I regret to say it actually helped. Expect weekly discussions. She gives a lot of last minute assignments; she's very inconsiderate of her students' time. Grading scale is beneficial, but you have to work hard. Exams are fill-in the blank with no word bank & very little multiple choice
Spelling is important for Tests... really
Truly an awful Class believe everything you read here none of it is exaggerated she is as bad as everyone is saying. There is an overall lack of direction during the entire class. Some tests contain the stupidest things ever. Tests are overly specific and lectures are awful, the slides make no sense on their own and Huang does nothing to remedy tha
Dr. Huang is quite possibly the worst professor Ive ever taken. She acts like what she teaches is so easy to grasp and often gets frustrated at the 300+ lecture group for not knowing things prior to the class, but the textbook is awful and contains many errors. Her tests are impossible to pass and she offers no chance to redeem yourself. Switch.
Literally the worst professor Ive ever had. She prides herself in the fact that shes not an easy A class, which would be completely fine if she actually taught well. Her teaching techniques were awful, and I often left class confused about things I understood before I went in. She teaches no where near good enough to give the hard exams she does.
Ooof this class really hurt to take. The tests are literally impossible and there is a ton of homework. If you start slacking on the readings, you will have no clue whats going on. She really cares about teaching but its to the point where the class is almost impossible.
She utilizes a flipped classroom which is hard to adjust to in comparison to other professors. Expect to attend every class in order to receive a good grade and I recommend getting a tutor to actually learn what she is teaching in class. Her tests are usually very tricky and she gave extra credit once at the end of the year.
This is honestly the worst class i have EVER taken. No class should be this difficult, especially for an introduction class. If bio is not your subject i suggest another teacher. She is impossible to pass/deal with. As a person, shes caring. As a prof, heck no. Save yourself and choose somebody else.
This class was extremely irritating because the material is difficult yet she hardly teaches in class and actually managed to make things more confusing! That being said, the exams are not weighted too heavily and there are a lot of other assignments that can bring up your grade. If you really put in the effort to understand it, an A/B is possible.
This teacher is terrible, Im sorry. Her test were literally the worst thing ever! All of the test were basically fill in the blank and even if you studied hard you would not be able to understand the concept of the test. She also gives ALOT of homework. I do not recommend taking her class at all.
Dr. Huang runs a "flipped classroom" so you need to be prepared to know the basics of the next section before class starts, especially because there is a lot of material. Packback and TopHat heavy, and tests with sometimes confusing and very detailed questions. She does her best to make lectures enjoyable and understandable though.
She is very friendly and will love to get to know you. Biology 151 at VCU is very tough and she tries her best to make it as engaging and fun and possible. It is extremely tough and be prepared to study and read A LOT. Top-Hat is very important (attendance, textbook, participation). Also pack back is used every week. Tests are fill in the blank.
Dr. Huang is a very sweet lady, and she is really easy to talk to! This class was difficult in the way that it's practically self taught; you read the assigned readings before lecture and answer TopHat questions in class. Exams are worded confusingly and definitely pose a hindrance on understanding of material. She had a little bit of extra credit.
She really cares about biology and WANTS you to understand the material. Very helpful if you visit office hours. Lecture attendance is mandatory cause she uses TopHat. Lots of homework but her all of her test questions are based on homework/classwork questions so that's a bit of a freebie for you.
Dr. Huang was a great professor but very inconsiderate when it came to giving students enough time to prepare for her test. The content is difficult because it's introducing ideas that stick with you when you go to higher level biology courses. Her exams are what got to me, because they are paragraph heavy with a lot of reading. Don't take her!
The worst professor I've ever taken.
Honestly one of the worst professors here at VCU. I spend hours & hours teaching myself the material because she is useless for gaining knowledge. even w/ the hours spent doing homework & taking notes, you will never be prepared for the tests. The tests are unbelievably hard & specific and contain questions not in the reading or discussed in class
could work on better demonstrating the material shes teaching. Lots of "fluff" homework on tophat that didn't seem to directly relate to lecture, and she didn't use the tophat readings to enhance her lectues for students to better understand the material. flipped classroom so good luck
This teacher is very enthusiastic which I love, however her class is one big pile of chaos. She uses tophat/packback which are both annoying but required. She gitty and motivating however my issue with her is that her tests are SOOOO hard! I understand multi variable calculus more than i understand her tests. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!
Professor Huangs tests barely cover the homework she assigns, they primarily focus on the lecture material. She doesn't really answer questions in class, and her exam grading is the hardest that I've ever experienced. If you get 90% of a question CORRECT, you get 10% credit. The content in lecture varies from the homework/textbook/external help.
Dr. Huang's course is very time and energy-intensive, and she will certainly make you work for your grade. However, I find her lectures to be engaging and informative. They're meant to solidify salient points learned in reading, not to be digested as standalone information. Do the work and you'll be fine. She's a good teacher who really cares.
Huang is really caring, but her lectures are so confusing and they go into things that aren't in the textbook. She gives a LOT of homework, and she swears it helps (it doesn't). A week consisted of reading 4 chapters and answering TopHat questions, posting a discussion post for PackBack and answering 2 other posts, and taking blackboard quizzes.
Honestly if you can try to get out of taking her do it. Some people are not meant to be teachers! She's interested in biology but only if she could get her students engaged in the topic as well. She has way too much homework which doesn't even help you understand the material. There truly is no way to prepare for her tests, it's all short answer!
She's super sweet and cares about her students. packback required every week. Tests are all short answer and are SUPER hard.
Really not that bad having taken her 2019 fall semester. Her grading makes it so that if you get a 70 on the test, everything else makes up and you can still have an A (90%). The tests are hard, but do the assignments. It is a very assignment based class, if you are not up for it, then just don't take her. I started grinding and got from 69% to 87%
Huang is a nice person, but her class was absolutely awful. Extremely lecture heavy using top hat and it was difficult to take extra notes in class because usually all she had in her slides were diagrams and tables that gave you information. Tests are killer, I would give myself two weeks to study for each exam and barely make a solid B.
The only thing that you have to purchase for this class is tophat, so that's convenient. Tests and quizzes are difficult but manageable if you have the bases of biology down. Her deadlines are concrete and a fair amount of work is assigned.
I was scared at first to take Dr. Huang,But this class ended up being my favorite class I took all semester.I was worried that my GPA would drop because of this class, but if you do all the assignments, extra credit,go to SI and preceptor sessions,You can maintain a really good grade in this class, Dr. Huang def. Puts alot o effort! TAKE THIS CLASS!!
I honestly think I was able to obtain a B since I took AP Biology in high school. She cares for her students, but she makes her tests hard because they consist of choose all of the following or fill in the blank (spelling matters). Packback is every week which I felt took time away that could've been used to study for her class.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken. Huge amounts of homework, and none of it prepares you for the exams. Attendance is mandatory online. Exams are online but in class, which was so stressful because we had to deal with tech issues on our own. I put in so much effort and only got a C, so prepare to work hard!
I took this professor for Quantitive Biology, which on its own is a difficult class. It was online but we had to meet in person once a week. She had a difficult time explaining many of the concepts in the class, and much of it was up to us to learn. Also the way many assignments were written was confusing.
Great professor, super nice and very funny. You will need to study outside of class a lot, but the class is not hard! The prep and assessment sheets she hands out are not required but are very helpful. Her tests really aren't as hard as people make them out to be. If you work hard outside of class you will be just fine!
Out of all the Biology courses that I've taken so far this was my first class to receive an A. It wasn't because it was easy. Attendance is required, if you miss more than 3, you will automatically receive an F I believed. Do the packback, tophat, and participate during lecture. Got a 70% average on exams but still got an A bc I did the other work.
Dr. Yuang is a very qualified professor. She cares a lot about her students' success. She shows professionalism in her teaching method. Her class contents are clear and understandable but remember you have to do the works. If you do your work, you will get an A and learn so much in her class. I would encourage anybody to take her class.
dont get me wrong, shes super sweet and passionate about biology but she cannot teach at all. i hated every moment in her class. we even had her and the ta's step out of the room to see what changes we wanted to make about her class and she honestly disregarded most of our feedback.
We learn early on how important scientific writing is so other people can understand what we are saying. Good luck understanding anything this teacher says or writes. Accent makes it hard to keep up, and the sentence syntax makes it impossible to even know what she is asking on the tests. AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS!
I would recommend being more relevant in the lectures and exams; The test is hilarious, and six blanks count for one point. We were unaware that the exams would have fill-in-the-blanks. So, I would recommend having more practice quiz (ungraded) that align with the test. If you are taking the class, please prepare for a tremendous outside study.
Dr. Huang is nice, but she's a terrible teacher. The class and lectures focus mainly on group worksheets and TopHat. There's a bit of a language barrier in that the assignments and text are filled with grammatical errors. The exams are in the most ridiculous format I've ever seen and ask about things not covered in the lectures. Avoid at all costs.
I did this class bc i needed the credit and it was online sync. i can tell she loves bio and loves to teach but this class online was not it. during her lectures she doesnt even teach, just goes on tangents and expects you to know everything before hand and students don't. And her tests are very hard. If you can, avoid having her as ur prof for onl
It's obvious Dr. Huang loves bio. That being said, she's not very good at teaching it. My main issue is with the way her exams are structured. Not very clear and with a lot of grammar mistakes. Don't expect to learn anything from lectures either and prepare to spend time out of class to learn for yourself. If anything, I would avoid taking it.
Dr. Huang is a very nice person but her class is no joke. The tests are extremely hard and will drop your grade completely so do the homework. It took me about 2 weeks to understand where to go to for the work. My class had to ask her to send out due dates for the week since assignments were all in different places. Worst class I had taken.
The structure of the class is the main flaw. Content is learned by reading outside the classroom which can be problematic. The amount of work is unreasonable and the due dates are not well planned out. For example, 3 txtbook chapters for the next unit were due only one day after an exam on the previous unit! Tests consist of many trick-questions
DREADFUL. Tests are ridiculously hard and you have to teach yourself everything from a poorly written textbook that you have to pay for. Semiweekly group work that doesn't help at all. Weekly discussion board post that has nothing to do with the class, that you also have to pay for. Homework isn't helpful and there's A LOT of it. Bad professor
No, too much information is crammed into each section. Certain subjects in each section were skimmed over and sped through in class and heavily tested. The lack of time to complete assignments made this entire class feel like a giant cram session, we were always rushing to the next topic. You wont remember any material covered in this class.
I know a lot of people do poorly on her exams, but I usually get really close to the A-range. I did well in this class by studying the online worksheets and focusing my notes around the textbook chapters she assigns. My advice is to make lots of comprehensive diagrams. Outside of class, Dr. Huang is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet! :)
Dr. Huang is a great person not just a great professor! I wouldn't take her again but she's understanding and compassionate. I wouldn't recommend her... Don't do it!
Huang is the most difficult professors to take for biology. NOTHING in the class prepares you for her irrationally hard exams. One of the worst decisions of my life. I am an honors student and I STILL struggled. At the beginning of class she'll try to show you her bad ratings on here and ask u to give her a chance but DO NOT BE FOOLED LIKE I WAS.
Dr. Huang is a very nice lady and is super caring. However, Biology is one of my strongest subjects and I really struggled this semester. Everything on the tests was so much more difficult than anything she taught or anything in the online resources. The only thing that helped me was the group work sheets. While sweet, and qualified, not amazing.
Dont get me wrong Dr. Huang is amazing and has an amazing personality shes just not a great professor. Theres are very unclear with her, I failed all her test even though I studied like crazy
Dr. Huang seemed very promising at first. Her assignments and worksheets aren't too bad, but the tests are ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! Tests are ridiculously hard for no reason and are not lecture/assignment based. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone. She really does try her best and she's a great person, but not the best teacher.
Dr Huang is a very kind professor and is a good teacher but exams are ridiculous. I felt that I learned so much in this course but was not able to reflect that because the exam formatting is super confusing. If you arent a good test taker I would not recommend her. Her exam averages were Ds and Fs and she does not curve. Worst exams ever
Dr. Huang is a great professor. I would recommend reading the group worksheets, attending SI Sessions, and Preceptor sessions. She is the nicest professor and really cares for her students. The tests are difficult but it is possible to get a good grade on the tests. If you do your work you will get an A in her class.
THE WORST PROFESSOR. No matter how hard you study, the questions are so open ended and irrationally difficult that I doubt any actual biologist would know the answer. She's really passionate but the organization and tests of the class is ridiculous.
Dr. Huang's class helped me learn so many biological concepts. This class requires a lot of dedication and time to study the material, but the worksheets and readings are helpful. People complain that her class is hard, but I personally believe if you work hard enough you can end with an A, even if you do not do get an A on any test, like me.
A bit of an accent during lectures, but I could generally understand what she was conveying. Class is based around group work, so you need to get motivated group mates in order to learn effectively. It was hard to understand where to study for exams and how, and constant deadline changes got really confusing.
Bad professor but easiest A I have ever received. A ton of tedious homework that is completely irrelevant, lectures are horribly paced, but again, easy A.
One of the best VCU professors I've known. If you are pre-med, you have got to take Dr. Huang's class. Easy class, easy A, easy life.
All in all I wouldn't take again, class was super hard, but intro bio classes like this are supposed to be, people were muted when they asked questions on zooms. I signed up for an asychnronous class for next semester so I wouldn't have to take her again. She did give a hefty amount of extra credit at the end which was nice.
Doctor Huang is caring, but her class seriously sucks. She gives so much useless busywork that I feel is more appropriate for high school level students, and her lectures are fairly incomprehensible. I'm sure she's great at research, and she's a very nice woman, but Hard Pass.
I took this class Fall 2020, so it was online. The amount of work I had for this class was easily as much as all my other classes combined. She also changed the grading criteria halfway through the semester. Be ready to do lots of work for this class everyday of the week. The exams were also really hard.
I had an absolutely horrible time in this class. The professor did not give a single lecture. All the work was done by TA's and I had to teach myself every topic. There were no videos even made by the professor, she would just make us watch youtube videos and TED talks. When asked for help she would refer us to TA's. Do NOT take.
She seems like an awesome person but her teaching methods are not my style. She puts notes/ quizzes to complete every week before you meet (she doesn't lecture AT ALL so you pretty much teach yourself) and her notes are very confusing and unclear as well as the quizzes. Ive taken quizzes 10+ times to get a perfect score because or unclear direction
She's very nice, however you're pretty much learning the material on your own. It helps to do the practice problems to get a better understanding and there are several things to do for each module, so spreading out the work and pacing yourself would be the best approach. It's not a like a typical class, but definitely manageable.
Easy hw and class work, pay attention in lecture, easy to follow. HW: read tophat as intro to class, packback, concept maps of key things due night of exam. In class Group google doc is pretty much from tophat if not then itll be in lecture. I had a great group, did my work, easy B. Just take notes from tophat & lecture. Its like plug and chug.
I was VERY confused at the beginning of the semester. She has assignments on so many platforms and everything is due on different days and it just seemed so much more confusing than it needed to be. The sooner you figure everything out, the better off you'll be. But she's super nice and eventually you'll catch on.
Dr. Huang did an amazing job of creating a classroom environment that you would normally experience in-person onto an online class. She's very caring and gives out busywork because it really does help your grades BY A LOT if you do about average on the exams. If you put the work into it, you can definitely succeed in her class and earn an A.
Her class involves busy/group work but she is one of the most caring and engaging professors I've had at VCU. You can really tell that she enjoys what she does! I really enjoyed her class and she did a great job at doing "flipped classroom" in an online setting. Just like any other class, you'll need to work for a good grade.
Dr. Huang teaches by application, and people may complain because it's harder and makes you think more, but trust me when I say that learning through understanding rather than just memorizing what's on the slides is so much better in the long run. Go to preceptor/tutor sessions; they are so helpful, and take your tophat and prep sheets seriously!!
She teaches you the "why" and wants you to critically think. She's accessible outside of class if you wanted to hang or ask her questions about bio. Lecture content is just like the stuff on the prep sheets, so do those!! Prep sheets are also great for preparing for exams. She wants you to understand the material, not memorize. Def recommend!
As a person, she genuienly cares about her students doing good and studying hard, but her tests are so hard and complicated no matter if you studied for 6+ hours a day like i did. The formatting is so confusing and she gives SO MUCH BUSY WORK. Be prepared to do lots of homework, writing, and quizzes. Also good luck on your exams theyre hard.
People will say that she gives a lot of homework, but it's all to benefit you, and she gives you chances to correct wrong answers and get full credit, so it's not harmful to your grade. The other work also helps balance out her grading because they're heavier than her exams, which give you a safety net in case you don't do too well in exam setting
Although Dr. Huang clearly cares, her teaching methods are terrible. Everything is done in groups and there are no answer keys to check your work with. She requires extra "preceptor sessions" outside of the class time that aren't that helpful. To pass her class you need to learn how to pass her tests rather than actually learning the material.
Dr. Huang is a great person, but a mediocre teacher. If you can get used to her teaching style, then you will do well. Splits the class into separate preceptors (teachers aids) and then into different groups. If you have a good preceptor then that is also very helpful. Overall, you will have to stay on top of your work or you're gonna die
Most of her lectures are repetitions of the pre-lecture readings from Tophat modules and not very helpful. There are too many platforms she uses to assign work and you will miss points if you are not attentive. 4 extremely difficult cumulative exams are assigned and will take a toll on your overall grade if you do not get a good score.
Dr. Huang is a very sweet lady and is caring for her students. However, in my personal experience of taking her class, her lecture notes aren't as useful as I thought. Also, you need to study 3 weeks in advance because her test aren't based on the lectures. Good luck...
shes a nice person but a pretty bad teacher. her exams are super hard (our final was 25 questions but each question had a ton of parts--one even had 18 parts) and that's how it is for most of them. she requires us to use TopHat, Canvas, and Packback with weekly assignments on each so its pretty heavy work (although sometimes easy).
Worst biology class I have ever taken. Shes nice but her teaching style is way too confusing.
The material she gives out can be very confusing. Its a very hard class to keep up with because all of the stuff she wants us to do and the style she uses to teach isnt very effective for me and several of my peers.
Gives way too much mandatory work with no answer keys so you can never see how you did on anything. With the large quantities of work she gives shes never even able to go over it in class.
very hard to understand what she's saying. She makes you learn the whole chapter before she teaches you. Leave class even more confused than when you came in. Her tests are made for you to fail. Finished with an 89.46 and she refused to give me an A.
She would say she tried her best to teach a class of 200 students. That being said, she doesn't grade the test, the software does so make sure you know your spelling for this class. I would also like to say I felt lost for the first week of class. The lecture quizzes messed my grade up. She needs to be more clear. I will not recommend her.
She really knew what she was talking about however the test was hard and no cheating was even possible. No extra credit. The lectures are long but easy to follow and if you do not go to class you will not pass. Some units were easy while others took many hours of studying.
This class is awful. we had so many different websites/apps were we had to do homework and none of it made sense. we were always behind and to me the lectures were not helpful at all.
Do yourself a favor and take another class. You wont learn here.
She is probably the sweetest you'll meet. But she assigns A TON of work. She uses so many websites, and each website literally has different due dates it's so confusing. For her lectures, I attended all of them... I still failed all of her exams. Her exams are like 20 questions with 20 parts, each fill in the blank. Would never take her again.
She is a great person and cares about pushing her students to be better for their future but it totally contradicts that when she makes her homework an insane amount and also the tests are near impossible. But if you put in like 30 hours a week to study for the exam you'll be fine otherwise good luck.
Half the lecture is spent just trying to figure out how to finish the group worksheets and you end up not paying attention to what she is explaining. The readings assigned are way too long and the discussion posts don't help with anything. Her tests are set up in the most confusing way ever. If I see her in hell I wouldn't be surprised.
Lots and lots of assignments, but they all helped for the exams (which were pretty difficult). Most of the assignments were completely participation based, so as long as you complete them, you will get an A. Very difficult exams, but they are not worth a lot and you can get by if you study for them. Overall, she was a wonderful, caring professor.
Shes nice I think deep down, but this class was the hardest class I've ever taken. I studied for about 10 hours before each test making quizlets, study guides, doing every single form of practice available (which was a lot), and the highest I ever got was a C. I suggest trying to get another other professor for this class.
So confusing, so much work, so many website, and a waste of money cuz I leaned nothing.
Treat college students like kids, ignore covid protocols to give lots of group work and youre forced converse with people or you wont pass class. Lots of unnecessary tactics instead being straight forward. You have to submit assignments in 3 different days which means you have to be on her assignments everyday, despite you have other classes.
Class is already hard. but she does a lot of unnecessary this with the intention that it will help you study but not. lot of websites, pback tophat, goo drive etc. you'll also be forced to be in groups, and talk to preceptors because they have to give points and every unnecessary. you have to submit her assignments 3 different days or no points.
Huang is a very sweet person, however, her teaching style is not the best. She is very lenient and the homeworks on Tophat are easy, but when exam time comes around, I end up teaching everything myself instead because she takes too long to teach things in class.
I'm sure she has good intentions, but for the course level, she makes you do significantly more work than imaginable. It can be very tiresome and frustrating but push through it and get your preceptors to help you as much as possible. Despite this, she really does care and always responds to emails and is very understanding. Gets a bad rep for sure
Extremely confusing, and not accommodating at all. Worst experience I've had in a class.
People say Huang is a hard professor, but literally just do the work. If you pay attention in lecture and bother to read the textbook, the class is an easy A. She's also incredibly understanding, caring, and will take the time to go over questions you may have thoroughly and thoughtfully.
I don't understand why Dr. Huang gets a bad rap. She is a really caring professor who dedicates her life for her students (she works on the weekends!). She is extremely accessible, and her office hours are available for all students. The group-based design ensures that we learn collectively and whatever your groupmates know, you know also. 10/10
Dr. Huang emphasizes a group-based learning model in contrast to many other professors. The group-based design ultimately makes you learn more. Lectures are what you put into it. If you read the TopHat beforehand and take notes, you should be earning As on all exams. Be ready to critically think and learn, because BIOL 151 can be a difficult.
Class is super scattered and confusing. Makes you not only use canvas, tophat, discord, and google drive - but also makes you buy this useless discussion app called Packback for around 40 dollars. Ecology is a fun and simple subject, do not put yourself through the trouble of taking it with Dr. Huang.
I would not recommend taking her and strongly regret even trying to take her class. This course was online and the tests she would give were absolute nonsense. She adds abcd parts to a test and if you don't spell something right then she takes points off even though she doesn't give you a word box. Just don't take her and save yourself the trouble.
Hardest A I've gotten. You have to put in an extra hour each week for a preceptor session. Tests are impossible to do well on, spelling matters-if it wasn't for fluff grades I wouldn't have finished with an A. She clearly cares about her students but I don't think she teaches material well.
There is so much work for this class it is unbelievable. She gives so much homework that I spend more time doing pointless homework than studying. She also requires you to attend extra TA sessions for an hour once a week. Tests are impossible to get an A on. It is still possible to get an A in the class though due to all the homework grades.
Professor Huang Is a sweet lady & cares about her students but her teaching style is not for everyone. I had her last semester & had to retake the class b/c I learned almost nothing besides what I taught myself. Her tests are impossible, you can get answers wrong simply for incorrect spelling. Take her class only if ur good at teaching yourself.
I was worried about this class bc of her ratings but I have to say she was one was the best professors. Her teaching style is really great and easy to follow. Her class is assignment heavy which takes loads off of exams and the final. Do all the homework and you can basically flunk all the exams. Exams are a bit hard and do need understanding.
She can be nice, but can also be condescending when students asked questions. The majority of the time I was lost, as she would post announcements and instructions that were contradicting at times. A lot of inconvenience in this class with discussion post due dates, but maybe that's just me. I'm just glad I don't have to take this class again.
Pay attention to her lectures, go to review sessions and you will be fine. She uses tophat, google drive, and packback which makes it confusing when something is due and lot of assignment. Lots of homework but isn't very hard, just tedious. You don't have to do very well on tests bc the other assignments will help your grade tremendously.
