Very easy and informative class. She gives a lot of extra credit and her exams are very straight forward. There is a reason a lot of people use this class for their NS requirement. She also brought food to lecture a lot to give examples of what we were learning about.
The class is really easy in my opinion. You don't exactly have to show up to pass the class, but she does random checks of attendance so it is probably in your best interest to show up most of the time. She gives a lot of extra credit to help your test grades, and the tests are pretty easy and come directly off of her powerpoint slides.
I love her!! She is so funny and loves food science. She brings food in for everyone to have, even if the class is made up of 200 kids. She gives tons of extra credit that is very helpful. She does about 5 random attendance checks but they are usually the class right after the exam day. Would recommend her to anyone!
She is HONESTLY the BEST!! If you don't like science, this is the class for you. It is an easy A as long as you show up and listen. She gives so much extra credit that you literally cannot get lower than a B.
She's great! I'm personally not the best at science and still got an A in the class. Her PT lectures may consist of a lot slides, but she tells you what to study for the exams (3). Take advantage of the extra credit & attend as many lectures since she takes attendance randomly throughout the semester.
i love her.
Honestly great teacher. So sweet and funny and really knows what she's teaching. No homework only exams but read the power points she provides and you will pass. I actually learned something in this class as well while not having to work too hard for an A
Wonderful professor! She goes above and beyond to try and help her students. The class isn't a completely easy A, you have to go to class and study for her exams, it is not hard. If you make an effort she will 100% help you. If you can I would recommend you take her!
Great Teacher, Great class, Easy A. Fulfills NS. Didn't need to go to class. Gives tons of Extra Credit. Class grade based on 3 test grades, nothing else. Random attendance checks don't factor into your grade.
An amazing prof who really cares about her students. She even tells us how her exams are super easy and based off the slides. Gives a lot of extra credit too. If you dont like science this is the class for you because there is nothing you need to understand in depth. Just memorize the slides (she even says this herself!) Random attendance also.
She really cares about the subject and tries to make it engaging for the class. Lecture was full of jolly ranchers, video's, and jell-o. Would recommend her, and offers plenty of E.C. She even tells you exactly what to study and ignore during lecture. No textbook either!
I had Ponnusamy for Science of Food and my lord was she great. The lectures are straightforward and she always posts them on Sakai, so even if you miss (or skip) class you can catch up. Don't skip. Attendance is taken randomly, so watch out for that. There are three in class exams and no final. There is extra credit. Do it. You can totally get an A
I put in minimal effort into the class and ended up with a B+. If you put in some type of effort you can easily get an A. She gives plenty of extra credit opportunities and wants to make sure all her students succeed. All you have to do is study the slides and you'll be fine. Perfect for non-science majors.
Attendance is not taken, but she takes it 4 times randomly and it can help boost your final grade up a point. I gave minimal effort into this class and got a B+. If I studied harder from the beginning of the semester, I would definitely have an A. I definitely recommend her, and she brings in snacks too!
I usually don't rate professor, but Dr. Ponnusamy deserves one. She is such a great person. extremely knowledgeable and want her students to learn. She offers a lot of Extra credit. The material is so interesting and A MUST to know because it is something that we really need know to help us live longer. Take her you will never regret.
She gives so many extra credit opportunities that bump you up a whole letter grade. Tests are strictly from her slides, just a lot of material to memorize. Other than that, she is the best and always brings food to class! Take this class. Knocks off core requirements and boosts your gpa.
The only work all semester are the 3 exams so try to do well. But, she does give 2-3 extra credit options around each exam date, some reaching as far as 10 points. The lectures are pretty boring and she does random attendance checks as a grade. But, as long as you study, you should definitely get a B or higher.
Dr Ponnusamy is the BEST, my major isn't even food science but she had me seriously considering whether I should switch over. I envy the food science majors who will get to have her in the future, she knows them all by name & is very very sweet. Her lectures are interesting and also contain videos, occasionally she has a guest speaker. Easy exams.
I am a business major, but this class was not hard. There is just 3 exams, the final is one of them, non-cumulative. No homework/classwork. Easy extra credit opportunities for each exam, highly recommend doing them. Easy A class if you just study. She tells you exactly what to study from each presentation. 3 random attendance. Interesting class.
Prof Ponnusamy's class is REALLY easy if you put forth effort. 3 exams which are all multiple choice questions, attendance is not necessary but she takes into account 4 random days if you're on the curve of 2 grades (ie, between a C+ and B), and MULTIPLE extra credit assignments which will definitely help your grade! Definitely recommend her!
takes attendance on four random days. so many opportunities for extra credit but its definitely not an easy A. its basically an intro class for bio, chem, and nutrition all in one so if you dont have a science background, concepts can be harder to understand at times. exams are multiple choice. if you fail 2/3 and do all the EC, you can get a B
She made the class very interesting and her personality was contagious! I am actually taking another one of her classes because she's THAT good. The exams aren't hard (if you study) and theres extra credit opportunities. Overall, she is very sweet and educated very well on the subject matter; she doesn't drag the lectures either.
I do not even like science, but I had her for science of food and actually enjoyed the class. Her lectures were very interesting and she highlights in red in her powerpoints the things you need to know for exams. The class is an easy A as long as you memorize the information in red. She also provides lots of extra credit opportunities.
she provided a lot of extra credit opportunities and extended due dates. she basically forces you to get an A and the tests are taken from the slides she posts on sakai. would definitely recommend this class for anyone, regardless of major.
Genuinely wants her students to do well. 3 noncumulative exams right from the slides, and assignments that are actually interesting help boost your grade. The class is easy even for non-science majors. She also offers extra credit. One of the best professors I've had at Rutgers. Put effort in and you will do well.
Best professor ever! She makes everything so interesting. She is so smart and knows a lot, beyond even just food. I remember one of her best lessons being about the price differential being between a medium and large coffee with lg. being 10 cents more but 2x the size. But it's not good for us in the long run! This is a basic economics lesson.
Dr. P, had very interesting lectures, even though I am not a food science major I feel like I can use the information I learned in her class in my everyday life. She does a great job explaining information also adds in jokes! So I would recommend going to class, although not required it'll probably make the exams easier. extra credit opportunities!
Prof is a model teacher. Does not make this class too difficult. You just have to be willing memorize info the night before. If you know youre good at that then you're all set. PPT's online and just learn the info in red. She is caring/sweet, going to class can only help. Some EC as well. One project that she offers to help with mid semester.
honestly I went to like 4 classes total : the first one and the other days were just for exams. SUPER easy class... all test material is handed on a silver platter for you. tbh I think it's harder to get less than an A than to get an A. do the minimal work required and study for the exams and you are more than fine. interesting class too!
This class is not an easy A like everyone says it is. You must put in effort into the assignments and discussion questions. There are quizzes given daily that are timed so read the textbook. You are not given a lot of time for exams so be sure to study and look over the PowerPoints.
Am taking Food Medicine and love the class. She is funny and even as a non-science major, her lectures are actually interesting. Makes clear what aspects will be tested by highlighting in red on lecture slides. Pay attention, note whats in red, attend class and youre good. She offers extra credit and although a large class, tries to be available.
For the online class, make sure you go through the powerpoints because that is where most of the test questions come from. I wouldn't take her again (she wasn't a bad prof, but I really am not interested in just reading powerpoints and doing quizzes everyday). But it's a typical online class. If you do everything, you should get an A. Don't slack
shes okay but definitely not as easy as other reviews say she is. questions on the exam seem more difficult than the material actually taught during the lecture. you don't have to have a background in science but it definitely helps
Her exams are everything from the powerpoints. Very straightfoward. Just study and memorize what you need to and you will pass with an easy A. Do well on her assignments because one of them is worth a big chunk of your grade and can boost your graade
Great prof and class. Her exams are straight from the powerpoints, study and you will do fine. There is 1 assignment the whole semester that is worth a good chunk of your grade - it is more time consuming than it is tough.
I love Dr. P sooooo much. She is so sweet. The assignment is 1/4 of your grade, but she will literally give you the answers if you go to her office hours. The tests aren't hard, but they're not easy. The tests are extremely fair if you studied. Love her so much. Would take again in a heartbeat.
fam was the easiest class! there's 3 exams, all mc, final isn't cumulative. She tells you exactly what to study and that's EXACTLY what was on the exam. I studied the day before for all of them and got an A on each of them. There's one assignment, it's pretty long, but she's so helpful and even schedules in class days to help you with it!
TAKE HER! Beyond the easiest class I've taken for the NS requirement. She's funny and she tells you EXACTLY what's on the exams. No textbook required. There's one big assignment and two exams plus the final (not cumulative). The assignment is easy because she gives in class time to work on it and gives you the answer. SUPER EASY ! Great GPA booster
She is cute and she knows it!!! Honestly made this class a breeze. She teaches off power points and highlights all the info you need for tests in red. She also offers some extra credit through attendance, but not a ton. There were three straight-forward exams and one large assignment that we got in class time for.
She's great. Take her class, read over the lectures and you'll do fine.
This class was really easy, she doesn't use a textbook so all you have to do is read the lecture slides, plus she highlights in red what is actually going to be on the exams. The assignment was really easy too, all you have to do is follow her instructions and you will get an A.
Dr. P is the best. If you need an easy A grade booster that also gives a NS requirement take this without a doubt. Exams are a joke and project is super easy. Exam material is highlighted in red so just study that the day before exams and you're set. Prof. is very kind and caring.
Such a nice woman. Truly enjoyed her class and the material. Her exams are entirely from the powerpoints she posts on Canvas. And there are plenty of extra credit opportunities if you are not doing as great. Take this class Dr. P IS A GEM.
She is so nice!! Tells you exactly what to study for the exam (highlights it in red on the power points). Big assignment at the end of the semester, but I did it the day it was due and got an A. It would be impossible to fail this class! She offers help if you need it and the TAs are helpful as well :)
Took her online Fall 2020. Super nice and her class is really informative yet happens to be really easy at the same time! Heavily recommend taking this class if you're trying to get the NS SAS core complete! All the stuff you learn is really cool! The assignments are easy if you understand everything! Just a dream come true!
She is the best professor for too many reasons. Although there is much homework, the homework is very easy to complete. The exams are clear and not very hard. Highly recommend this class. It still takes many efforts to get an A in this class. She is the GOAT professor. Her lectures are so cool.
Dr. P is a kind and easygoing professor. The class was an easy A for me online (I would rec. taking notes on ppts) and it fulfilled my NS credit. There were 3 tests, all of which were straight from the powerpoints, and one assignment that was broken up into 5 parts and didn't take too much time. Overall would recommend
Sweet professor, all the things that will show up on exams are highlighted in red on lecture slides. Easy A, and overall interesting class, I'm not a food science major but this was a fun and educational elective to take.
The class might seem intimidating at first, a lot of people dropped the class 1 week in by looking at the syllabus. But the class is actually super easy. You get 100% on almost everything. Simple, Easy and you learn some cool stuff
Took online, an A is achievable but not necessarily easy. The course covers a ton of material, the exams are on lockdown browser and are only about 35 questions from 10 lectures with 90+ slides. Assignments are easy but ultimately exams are the biggest chunk of your grade. Overall pretty interesting and just give an effort.
She's is so chill, nice and respectful. There are around 7 assignments due for the whole semester and they are all straightforward. Exams are straight from the slides but lectures could be boring but that's it. Easy class to fulfill an NS requirement
Some who took SciFood online will complain, bc she is very specific in her instructions for doing hw and citing refs, and u get 0 if u dont follow them exactly. But the class is SUPER easy and even if u get a 0, u can resubmit. U may have to email Dean of Students about it to resubmit, which is y ppl may complain. But i dont think its that bad .
Took 3 of her courses throughout undergrad. As always, easy and interesting. At this point, the ratings speak for themselves. Check out the class if you need an elective. Only complaint is she comes for you if you don't include citations on literally everything. I was fine, but heard stories about people losing a lot of points. Follow directions!
(REMOTE INSTRUCTION) Dr. P is a sweetheart. Assignments are CRAZY easy (as in they take less than 5 minutes to complete every week). Tests are kinda hard though, and she does use Proctortrack so you do want to be mindful of that. Overall the class was pretty easy!
Taken asynch, he will send short quizzes with an article twice a week and you do discussions on canvas. Easy class, learned a good amount. Recommend it.
It was a great opportunity to take Dr. P's course. She has a lot of things to work on, but they are the easiest assignments. Her lectures and activities are usually very fun to work on. Science of Food was an easy A as long as you submit your assignments on time.
Shes the most organized professor Ive seen. Her power points are kinda heavy but all you need to memorize are the materials in red and those will be on the exam. Her classes are very interesting and you can actually learn a lot as well. Assignments are interesting and easy. Shes sweet and funny love how her class is so organized.
I took Dr.P's Science of Food class and it was an easy A. She gives very detailed instructions on how she wants her work so just follow and you will be fine. Don't read lectures for quizzes only use articles she provided and you'll be fine.
Dr.P is very nice, instructions on assignments are very very clear and likewise for studying for her exams. Super easy and interesting class ,would take another class by her.
Best class I have taken at rutgers for sure. Easy A if you can grind quizlet for 2 hours for each exam. Its max 8 hours of work for the whole class if you put ur mind to it. Make a quizlet of just all the red highlighted material in the slides and do quizlet learn. guaranteed A. The assignments are easy and can be done within no time. GPA booster.
Took online. Very easy class, just make sure to cite your references (APA style). She uses lockdown browser for tests, so be aware of that. Quiz's and discussion posts are easy and take around 5-15 minutes.
One of the worst professors I have ever had so far. It takes a long time to get a reply from her via email. Lectures are long and tedious, readings are wordy and pointless, and she is a tough grader and very inflexible on the due day of homework. And it is hard to communicate with her. Not recommend this class at all, such a waste of time.
best prof ive ever had. Easy class, quick&simple weekly quizzes , retakes. quiz asking about whether i liked a specific food and if i would recommend it. very accessible & cares a lot ab students. I got covid a week before the final exam and she was VERY understanding, told me to take it whenever & kept checking on me to make sure I was doing ok.
Took her class online asynchronously and it was one of the most enjoyable courses at Rutgers! Her slides are detailed, so if you take good notes you should be able to do well on the exams!
Very chill course, no homework, she takes attendance randomly, and she is very straightforward on what you should study for the exams.
10/10 take science of foods for your science credit with this prof. Attendance is randomly taken but you can honestly take it at home on your computer. Exams are online but proctored but everything on her slides in red will be on the exam and it is very easy.
Dr.P is very nice. She always gives us extra credits. This course has 3 exams and it counts 90% of your grade.
online exams, all info for tests are highlighted on slides, random attendance but its a silent canvas notification so just check throughout the class period and submit if ur not there. extra credit opportunities. only 4 hw assignments (very easy). super funny and sarcastic
her lectures were always entertaining and kept me engaged. her tests and homework were easy as long as you study or somewhat pay attention. very straightforward and an easy class to get a good grade in.
Very easy, she literally highlights which content could be on an exam. Lectures are good too if you decide to show up. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Just read over your notes and you'll be fine. Be careful with lockdown browser during exams so it does not flag you for cheating. Very friendly outside of class. Would love to have her again.
Prof Ponnusamy is great in and out of class. She has an entertaining and concise method of lecturing while making it clear which info is needed for exams. It's easy to reach her for meetings if you're struggling with something and need extra help or guidance. She's also kind and accommodating to all students and has left a positive impact on me.
This is one of my favorites professors. Basically ended with a 100 and I took this class for a SAS core requirement. If you go to her lectures, they are interesting. You don't have to attend to pass though. Exams and the one assignment you have to do are easy. She is amazinggg and so sweet!
Awesome prof. who is both knowledgeable and very nice. In FFFTT, there were AQ's but attendance was not "mandatory". 3 exams worth 23 points each, but she highlights everything you need to know in red on the slides which makes the exams very easy. Would 100% recommend if you're considering taking any of her classes.
Very easy class and professor, but also very worthwhile and interesting! Attendance is taken on random 20 days of class, and all information that'll be on exams is highlighted in red on slides (which are posted). Would take again.
Hands down the easiest professor! What else can I say? Just study what's in red in her slides because THAT WILL BE ON THE EXAM! If you need to get your science requirements out of the way, this is the class!
You won't learn anything helpful from this woman's class. It is completely a waste of time! Terrible teaching style and grade policy. I don't recommend it at all.
Great professor to fill one of your NS cores. I had interest in this class and gives you a lot of information on food and health. Very good if you want to learn more about probiotics/prebiotics and processed foods, as well as super foods and benefits of daily sources of food. Everything on the exam is in red.
She is such a sweet person and is super understanding about submitting quizzes late. The exams were online and super easy because she tells us what would be on it. Legit finished each exam under 20 min. Quizzes are based on attendance. This course is definitely an easy A and I highly recommend you take her!!!
The tests are all online with a lockdown browser and you get a lot of time to do a few assignments. You are only tested on what is red in her lectures. She takes attendance on 20 random days, but for my class you had to show up everyday because she cancelled class. Attendance is taken through quizzes only open for a few minutes during class.
Incredibly sweet and straightforward professor. This course requires minimal studying but attendance quizzes are given at random times during each lecture, so make sure you're there! The class is interesting and I'd recommend for non food sci majors. She is also extremely helpful outside of class for food sci majors like myself!
I was surprised by how engaged I was in this class! The lectures are interesting, the quizzes are super easy, and she is so nice. The exams are verbatim what is on the slides, memorize them and this class will be a breeze. She usually brings in food too, but bc of covid restrictions she can't. She's amazing, definitely take her.
LOVE LOVE LOVE PROF. PONNUSAMY!!!! Such an amazing professor and this class was easy and interesting. There are attendance quizzes, but extremely easy questions and she basically gives you the answers in class. I would highly recommend to take a class with her.
She was super nice and always taught a good lecture. Only mandatory when she had attendance quizzes, and even then, they were super easy. She responded to emails as well, and the workload was not hard at all. I recommend this class.
Good Professor. Actually you can do the attendance quiz in your home. For the exam, you just need focus on her slides, she marks every contents in the exam with red!
Incredibly easy professor. This is my second time taking one of her classes, and I can say that an A is very doable. Slides are posted, and text in red is what needs to be memorized for exams. Exams are lockdown browser with webcam and final is non-cumulative. Attendance required for 50% of classes, and has a decent impact on your grade.
Professor Ponnusamy is really sweet. Her lectures are really interesting and worth it if you are able to go, and the attendance quizzes she gives are very easy to do. Exams are easy and straightforward - just study the things highlighted in red in her slides and you should do great. The 2 assignments are easy and she gives you class time to do it.
Take Professor Ponnusamy! The lectures are interesting and they will make you think more about the food you eat and where your food comes from. Study everything in red for the 3 exams (non-cumulative) and it should be relatively straightforward. Attendance quizzes are simple. Assignment is informative and easy. Some memorization but not difficult.
One of the sweetest professors. Exams are super easy and all the information is underlined in red on slides. Attendance is a big portion of your grade. She also offers extra credit. I 100% recommend taking this class.
Professor Ponnusamy was amazing. Sweetest lady ever, very passionate about food sci! Took this class to meet SAS core and I don't regret it! Lectures are interesting, attendance not mand (only specific dates she lets you know in advance) and she just genuinely was so understand. Easy assignments, easy exams, loved this class!!
I enjoyed listening to the professor during the lecture even though I wasn't particularly interested in the subject. She definitely wants all her students to pass. Beware if you don't want to use the lockdown browser that is used in this class.
Such a nice professor that's always willing to talk after class. The tests (worth the overwhelming majority of ur grade btw) do require time to study for. However, she highlights exactly what you need to know for the tests on the slides. Attendance is mandatory, and she is cracking down on that. But if you need to miss a class she's understanding.
Professor makes lectures interesting and everything you need to know for exams, which are multiple choice, is highlighted in red on the slides.
I took her intro to food science class and if you're looking for an easy class to fill out pre-reqs this is the one there are only 3 exams and they are all online with lockdown browser there are attendance quizzes but only on certain dates which is listed in the syllabus so you don't have to attend every class overall I recommend taking this class
Easy. If you get below a B you are just not intelligent. Everything on the exams are in red on the slides. Attendances quizzes are annoying, but just write notes on the slides of the red wording. Than study those words...memorize.....than you get at least an 80 on the exam. Class is an EASY A. just put in literally an ounce of effort. Online exams!
AMAZING PROF!! she gave attendance quizzes so beware of that. Graded all assignments basically on completion but only 2 assignments per semester. 3 exams and all use lockdown browser, not open note but taken on your own time.
Professor Ponnusamy genuinely cares about students learning. Exams are straightforward and lectures are very informative. If you're looking to improve your diet or learn more about where to earn specific vitamins take this class. If you have the time attend lecture, but exam material is all that is colored on the slides she provides.
Attendance is not necessary and is only tracked through attendance quizzes (date posted beforehand). Grading includes AQs, course evaluations (graded for completion), 3 exams, and extra credit. You can easily study for exams the day of. Overall, I highly recommend if you're looking for a laid-back class that is also interesting and useful.
Professor Ponnusamy cares about you learning. Her lectures were interesting and the stuff on the exams were straight from her slides. Definitely attend the lectures as you get more out of it. Exams are on a lockdown browser but if you study for even an hour you're going to do fine. Take this class if you can.
Could not recommend Dr. P and Krithi (her assistant professor) enough. I have taken two classes with them to fulfill my requirement classes. Dr. P is engaging with her lectures, and always knows how to keep things interesting. Patient and understanding when addressing students' needs and questions. More of a laidback class overall.
This was not a fun class by any means, but Prof. Ponnusamy is great. Didn't go to many lectures, but when I did, I could tell she was super genuine and tried to make the class fun. Super straight forward stuff - she tells you what's on the exams. But it is a lot of information and scientific memorization.
Took her class for credit and personal interest. It was the best decision I have ever made so far. The exams are also very manageable and the fact that you can do it anywhere before its due is another great feature. Which gives me less stress and more focus and flexibility on the actual material. All exams now are online with a lockdown browser.
I wouldn't say it's an easy class because there is a lot, a lot of material you need to study for the exams but the info is highlighted in red. lectures are really long and she gives you a list of the days she's gonna take attendance. 2-3 assignments
Great professor, so sweet and teaches well. Next to no homework but attendance quizzes about every other lecture.
She is very easy and if you just write down the red bolded part of her slideshows you can get good grades on every exam.
She is an amazing professor! Def the easiest natural science class if you need a credit for that. There were 3 exams, attendance quizzes basically every other class, I only went to the classes she had attendance quizzes on, and only 2 assignments the whole semester. Exams are all multiple choice, but it is a lot of memorization.
She is an easy A. There are 3 exams, 2 very easy assignments, and 13 attendance quizzes. I only went to the attendance quiz classes and studied maybe 2-3 hours for each exam, and got 80-90s on them. The exams are multiple choice. There is a lot of memorization, but she highlights what you need to know for the exam. She also gave us 2 extra credits.
Class is super easy, all 3 tests (no cumulative final) are online and questions are pulled straight from the slides. There were attendance quizzes - but the dates are posted on the syllabus. The quizzes are also posted on canvas so you can just take them at home. Never showed up to class and still got an A totally recommended for an easy NS!
If you're looking to fulfill a Natural Science course credit but aren't that into science, take this class with this professor! Very straightforward. All 3 exams are online w/ Lockdown Browser and can be taken anywhere. Even though her lectures relied on PowerPoints, they were actually interesting and can teach you something new about food.
Definitely recommend to take this class. She's very caring unless you are being dishonest. Attendance quiz: be sure to make it; she mentioned the dates on syllabus. Exam 1-3: based on her ppt slides(red-colored contexts to memorize) Nothing other than those. You don't need to worry at all.
she was genuinely so sweet. I highly recommend science of food. she was a good teacher and you can tell her students like her. she is extremely communicative, and makes everything regarding classes, work, exams, and homework super clear. I also found the class very interesting
Dr. P was very fun and laid back, and FAM is definitely the best course if you need to fulfill a NS. Attendance is only taken on 13 lectures and the dates are in the syllabus. Tests are super easy as long as you study all of the material highlighted in red on the slides (LITERALLY THE TEST IS THE RED HIGHLIGHTS) Two assignments graded for comp.
She clearly indicates what will be on the exams, with text highlighted in red on the slides. There is a lot of content to remember, which is why I struggled a bit, but if memorization is your strength, then this class should be easy and straightforward. Exams take place in LockDown Browser and not cumulative.
