Very thorough teacher. Focuses on the mathematical approach to economics. multiple choice exams.
She has a Chinese accent which can be hard to understand. She does not allow any bending of the rules at all. You must attend every class or else you lose a lot of points from group assignments.

I think the current course number is 301. In class activities count for a considerable portion of grade, don't skip class! Tests assume you can apply theory, not just parrot back text. Not easy, but thorough.
It was a very easy class but you have to go everyday and do the homework which is simple. She was very nice and is willing to help. Multi choice exams and short answer Quiz's. i would definatly taker her again.
WORST. TEacher. EVER.
BEST TEACHER EVER I would take her class again.
Her class was so easy. You have some group work so you have to go to class. If you do all the rquired work then this will be an easy A. All your homework is done on-line and you ave to pay a $21 fee to use the web site.
Ms. Chen is a really nice person and great teacher as well. I learned a lot from her class, that I still remember to this day. As long as you attend class and read the book you should do fine. The quizzes focus more on math. There is no homework though. I would recommend taking her.
She is helpful and as long you try and not slack off it is pretty easy
She's a really great teacher. She's very helpful and all her exams are easy "IF" you understand all the concepts in the study guide. Her voice is not very loud so if you have a hearing problem, I suggest you sit up front. Homework is on the internet and there are EASY group assignments.
She's a great Econ teacher. Very clear lecture and willing to help. Exams are not extremely hard but they're not easy if you're a slacker. She's also very modest in my opinion. Take her class if you want to understand economics.
VERY NICE!! Her style of teaching totally works for me. She is very nice and answers any questions you have. Tests a kinda hard, homework kinda sucks. But take her class if you can!
difficult to understand, but overall a very nice person

She's a very nice teacher, but sometimes can be confusing. It's really difficult to understand her. As long as you study and review the reading, youll do ok. Hw...costs money...its online.
Chen Rocks! She is clear and repeats everything over and over. Do your reading and pay attention! Sit up front in class she has a low voice.
Don't ever take her!! Or take her...if you want to not understand a word she says. She also makes the class a lot harder than it should be. Don't give your students THAT much work!! Other teachers are much better. Take Prof. Call instead.
Is this Econ or Math? She should focus more on the econ principles and leave math to the math teachers. Not helpful at all and hard to understand.

I must say the people in my class are complete and utter idiots if they think that her class is hard. Many of them don't know simple algebra, that's why she has to go over the mathematical aspects of Econ, for THOSE idiots. She is a very good teacher and explains everything in idiot-proof terms. Not a very interesting class but useful in life.
She is a soft speaker, so I would suggest you sit closer to the front. Other than that she has a pretty good way of teaching. The tests will be hard if you don't thoroughly review.
EXTREMELY HARD.QUIZZES NOT AS HARD BUT EXAMS ARE HECKA HARD, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. TRUST ME. NOT VERY HELPFUL
GREAT TEACHER, OFFERS EXTRA CREDIT AND VERY DESCRIPTIVE IN HER WORK. READ THE BOOK AND YOU SHALL BE FINE ON THE EXAMS, OTHERWISE YOU WILL DEFINATELY FAIL THE EXAMS!
She's a little hard to understand, but you get used to it. She's a great teacher and repeats stuff a lot so everyone gets it, and I suggest you have basic algebra skills, cause equations seem to be hard for those who don't.
She is hard to hear if you don't sit in the front row. Her tests are not easy if you don't thoroughly study for them, and there is only two extra credit opportunities. It could be difficult if you slack.
She has a very low voice so sit in the first two rows of class to hear her. She is very thorough in what she teaches and if you ask questions she will answer. She offers extra credit which is a plus. Very nice class.
Gives lots of extra credit but the tests are difficult to understand.
Hard to understand because of accent, speaks low and monotone, VERY BORING But if take good notes and do all the work will be fine. Repeats stuff a lot, very clear on what you need to know for exams, extra credit available, online homeowork costs extra $28 to sign up. Pay attention, read book can pass class easily
I had her for both micro and macro in the same semester. the classes were easy, attendance not required, but you have to go to class to get a good grade. lots of extra cradit. tests are book based. very helpful and nice!
very good teacher, first u wont like her, but through the semester, u will like her more and more. my first thoughts were to change her to another teacher, but I didnt. SHe is very very good. im plannig to take ECON 304 next semester with her. she is not easy, but not too difficult. she gives extra credit. She is very kind person. u should take her
Chen is a great prof. She does have a very low voice, so try to sit close. Everything that she thinks is important, she will say over and over so students can write it all down. Lots of group work, which was actually fun. Tests are OK, they could have been harder. Online HW is helpful, and there is the possibility of EC from this & RAD/WAC.
Easy class!! All you have to do it do decently on the weekly online homework, DEFINITELY go to each class session since she gives exactly what is going to be quizzed/tested on. Sit in front row, she's a low talker.
Awesome teacher. Talks very quietly, extra credit opportunities, homework is online. Five quizzes, one dropped. Four exams, you will need to read the book to get a good grade on them as she does not cover everything in class. Highly recommended.
read the text, study the study guide and go to class for lecture notes to pass the class! Homework is online, YOU have to pay! tests are multiple choice, group work assigns., weekly quizzes and no final!
If you're taking it for GE or your major, I wouldn't recommend this teacher. She teaches one thing, but when you get to the test, what she's taught isn't there. AH! Don't buy the book; you have to sign up for online quizes, just do that. I paid $65, and didn't purchase a book, but you can print each chapter. Offers EC but difficult tests.
I think this teacher is very useful. I love her lecture. If you pay attention and attend class regularly, there are no way of failing. The quizzes are pretty easy based on what exactly what she gave you to practice in class. Exam is a little bit difficult, but i think only the first one. The rest is not tough at all. Higly recomend to every one.
vary good teacher if econ is your major. online home work. lots of extra credit.because if she didnt give it you would fail. over 20 people dropped. last 8 had d's and one A
hard class in general. this teacher doesn't explain things very well, and it's hard to understand her sometimes because of her accent. homework online, but its not very easy. not very happy with the class as a whole.
I honestly didnt like this teacher. I ended missing some of the classes and when I got back I was so lost. If you buy the book online then you dont have any resources left for when she has you working from the book during class. Her study guides are way off from the tests... I just wanted to cry in her class... it was horrible!!!
Very easy class. Go to class and take good notes. Exams are based on class lecture.
I wouldn't say this class was very easy, but it wasn't that hard either. The class was very structured and straightforward. Ms. Chen was very professional and graded assignments and tests promptly. I did not have any trouble with her accent at all and would take her again.
Her accent did not present a problem, she was a very nice teacher. Like previously stated she is very straight forward and explains everything the first day of class. Remember to do the online homework, or you could end up a whole grade lower. Class wasn't exactly fun, but had occasional fun activities.
Great professor!!! Always clear and easy to understand. Study guides provided everything covered on exams. If you miss a lot of lectures, you're in trouble b/c the subject itself is not that easy but Ms. Chen makes it very clear. She always had answers for our questions and I loved her examples from real world. Could not imagine a better econ prof!
This teacher has a thick accent an is very hard to learn the concept with that. I think I could have done a lot better with someone that had more of a personality and less of an accent.
Teacher is very difficult to understand. I really wish she would have wrote info she wanted us to know on the board. Study guides weren't helpful. Exams are difficult and you have to PAY to do your homework. I wish I would have switched teachers. I did not like her teaching method at all.
Prof. Chen is a great professor. She knows her stuff. However, her class is not an easy class. She is extremely thorough. You MUST take notes. In fact, you don't really need the textbook to study, because she goes over EVERYTHING in class. I will say this again, you MUST take notes. Attendance is not required, but again, no notes = fail.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!!!! STAY AWAY!!!!
I had no idea what Econ was going to cover prior to taking this class. I took her for 302 and found her hard. Avg test scores were low B. Ended up w/A due to extra credit. Nd to attend class everyday if you want to do well.Does have accent, sit in frt, will help.I like her applied style of teaching. If u wnt to learn, she is it.
Does not review prior to exams. Does not go over everything in class... tests are full of surprises. Reading the textbook thouroughly is necessary. The course is much harder than it has to be. Most of the class is focused on learning superficial procedural stuff for quizzes. The big picture is left vague and without context.
Miss. Chen is an awesome Professor. She knows her stuff, gives lots of extra credit, will gladly go over the terms and key points. This is a very very easy class if you study enough. Good luck!
very patient and helpful. better then i thought econ was going to be.
I wasn't a fan. She is a little hard to understand during lecture. She loves talking about China's economy. Just show up and try to pay attention and it's an easy A. Oh btw, she has all of your homework done online through a website that costs at least $30. I was not pleased to have to pay an additional fee on top of the tuition and textbook.
Test and quiz on materials not covered in class. Have to learn on my own. She spends majority of class time teaching basic algebra. Worst class I have taken.
What a great class. I thoroughly enjoyed it with Mrs.Chen. She is very helpful and her teaching strategy was great. She shows you your up to date grade every week.
Exams were on nothing she taught, I had to learn on my own. She basicly teaches you math in class everyday. This class was not what i expected.
She doesn't care when you show up, or if you even do. The tests and homework are online, amazingly I failed every online test with 50%, but aced the homework and in-class assignments/quizzes and passed with a B.. She might be hard to understand, but such an easy class.
Sometimes a little hard to understand, but she takes the time to clarify if you aren't catching on. Just ask. Coming to class isn't mandatory, but is a good idea since she occasionally will do group activities.
She gives great notes and is helpful if you don't umderstand. she is approachable. if you skip class a lot hers may not b the best to take cuz there are group quizzes and group work which is ez cuz she goes over what 2 expect. hw y exams r online also so that could be good or bad depending on your view.
Tough class most of it was online which is nice if you are full time, only downfall is exams are online DURING class periods so if you dont have a computer available it could be bad. but if you do well on homework and in class quiz's you'll pass with a B easy
EASIEST class ever. If I could I would take her for every subject. Attendance not mandatory but recommended because of class work and quizz points that add up. Class lecture is very relevant to quizzs and class work but not to test. i got around a 70 on each test and still passed the class with 80 somethiing and hardly ever did homework.
She was an excellent teacher. I learned a lot about Macroeconomics. My final grade was an "A". I did a fairly ok job on 4 exams but pass all my quizzes. She takes time helping her students understand. If you show up to class on time you wont miss any lectures that are really important for the next quiz. Also she gives plenty of extra credit
She is the best American River College.Everyone should take her class.
Hard to understand sometimes but she is very helpful and will go over any questions. Tells you what you will be quizzed on but tests are mostly from the chapters she doesn't cover in lecture. Still highly recommend and easy to pass as long as you show up.
very awesome easy teacher. tests are online and not in class. although tests are not exactly what she teaches, you can make 60 on all of them and still pass with 80+ because she drops the lowest test and quiz. quizzes are exactly what she teaches on. made 100 on all quizes which are group work, so if you dont know one of your group members will.
Great Teacher, but let me explain how her class works. 5 tests, all online, no final, one test dropped. Homework online, in class group quizzes, and group work, one quiz dropped. lots of extra credit on HW, extra credit for WAC. Each class she explains how to do graphs and calculations in detail. Must read, main concepts of the book.
If you have to take Econ302/Macro, this teacher is pretty easy, she is kinda hard to understand but she will answer your questions if you ask. Quiz are easy, test medium hard and online...I recommend her...
I love professor Chen. She is so sweet and has a lot of patience for some rude students. She is very helpful although she is hard to understand..she repeats the info. Do RAD because this boosts up your score and I highly recommend it. Her tests are kinda hard because they're based mostly on the book.
I took Professor Chen for both Micro and Macro Econ. They are both difficult classes, but read the main concepts in the book and come to class and you'll have no problem passing the class. She gives extra credit for RAD and lots of extra credit for homework.
She was a good teacher. She explained everything very well. The complaint I would have is the stupid website you use to do the homework and tests. The test is about nothing she talks about in class so use google.com. I ended up getting a 79% and she refused to help me get a B . Thought she was great until my grade came in.
She is the best! I'm really impressed with knowledge and her passion for teaching. She is always willing to help. She cares about linking macroeconomic concepts to reality. Professor Chiuping just exceeded all my expectations. I highly recommend her class to all who want to understand macroeconomics and apply it to their daily lives.
If you are looking for a professor who tests based on her lecture, then this is not the professor for you. All tests are textbook based and lectures play little role in test concepts. Lots of extra credit available. If you don't pass this class its your own fault. Read the book and you'll do fine.
Nice teacher, somewhat easy class. You need to go to class because you do a lot of group work. She gives 5 test and 5 quizzes and drops the lowest of both. You do NOT take the exams in class though. They are online during your class time, so you can benefit from that.
Great Professor! Professor Chen is extremely helpful and kind. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there is a lot of group work that can boost your grade if you do attend. She truly cares about her students and will go out of her way to help them. All professors should be like Professor Chen!
What can I say, she is an awesome professor. I got into the class two weeks late, so I missed a few assignments. But that didn't stop me from getting a B in her class. Her lectures are clear and has helpful examples. She took the time to explain the material to her students. There are group work and quizes, so go to class every day
Good teacher. She gives you a whole bunch of extra credit or points at the end of the semester and there isn't much work to be done. The online homework is a little bit different then what she teaches in class, but I did have her for summer so she probably skipped through. She has an accent, but it's understandable.
Professor Chen is always available to help you and actually wants to. Her lectures are easy to understand and after awhile you get familiar with her accent. She offers enough extra credit so that I didn't even have to take the final and still end up with an A in her class. Economics is a difficult subject but professor Chen made it enjoyable.
Prof. Chen is a pleasant teacher. You have to make sure you attend class. All the quizzes are based off what you learn from her lectures. The hmwrk is all online, as well as the exams (open book, but timed). She could be very monotoned which was the only thing that frustrated me. Do your work and you'll get an A. She gives a lot of extra credit.
i dont know why people dont like her. i got both A grade in econ 302 and 304. hardly read a book. online test, super easy quizz with simple math like practice test. i got all c in exam, all full score in quizz and group , do a lot hw and i must get a easy. love her so much
If you want challenging class, this professor is for you. I don't mind the way she teaches and her style. I just don't like the way the online h.w. works. It's frustrating me.
Love Professor Chen. Great teacher. Take notes (she repeats key information), copy everything on the board. Attend all classes - quizzes are almost identical to the group work done during the previous meeting. Drops one exam (final included) and one quiz. Last two days of class and final are optional if you're pleased with your grade. (Easy A.)
Great professor who knows the material. Very professional and approachable. Take her class
Professor Chen is an amazing teacher! She knows her material, and teaches only the most relevent material for the course. she also explains everything very well and if you didn't hear something, she is morethan willing to repeat it for you
she is amazing. Ive taken econ with both rosario and chen. if youre deciding between the two take chen! drops one quiz, drops one test, lots of extra credit.
She is a great teacher! More than happy to answer your questions and explain. Gives more than enough time to take notes during class. The exams are online and open book, but they can be a little challenging because she doesn't cover much details in the book that show up on the test. Overall, her class is easy for me and she's a great teacher!
The most boring economist in the world. The tests are online, open book, and easy, which is good because coming to class is absolutely useless, unless you like watching someone draw graphs very slowly and meticulously.
Her class seemed great at first, even though she has a very thick accent which makes it hard to understand the lecture sometimes. The tests are online and graded by a website. So, it could grade your exam wrong and you might end up getting an F. All grades are final. I do not recommend taking her. She can be confusing about what she expects.
EASY, easy, easy! Read your book! Exams are online, so you can take them with your book open! She is really sweet!I took her for two semesters and she was AMAZING!
She is a great professor. It was a good class.
Homework is online and you can check if the answer is correct once per question. Tests are online as well. Drops one lowest test and one lowest quiz score. Overall it's pretty easy to pass as long as you pay attention and read the book.
Quizzes will be easy and straight-forward. Hw will be right out of the book and you get like a week to do 10 multiple choice questions. Take RAD once a week for extra credit if you doubt that you will get an A. Exams are the key to get an A in this class. You take a total of five and she drops the lowest one. Take those exams seriously. (EASY A)
Prof. Chen is one of the best Teachers at ARC. she is very sweet and very knowledgeable. homework is online due once a week or so. there are also 5 exams online. she will drop the lowest one .its open book but not easy. group works and in class quizzes are easy points. if you come to class every day and pay attention you will get easy A.
Wish I could have taken her for 304 also bc I learned way more in her class. She does work slowly but it is crystal clear and helps people understand. Do the hw and pay attn to lecture bc it helps with the in class quizzes. Read the book bc it is most like the online exams. Frequent group work solving a problem from the book which i didn't like.
Professor Chen isn't a bad teacher, I would say she is pretty easy. All homework online and the exams are online. Didn't even open the book. Wasted about $160 something on a custom book just for her class. Barely used or touched the book.
Not an easy class. Key thing here, you need to READ THE CHAPTERS the test is on. She tells you not to, but DO IT (most questions on test are on the reading, so don't just skim but actually read). The math we do in class is only like 5-10% of the test, the rest are q's from the reading (50 q's). Quizzes on the math, not easy, but do-able (study.)
You need the book. Teacher us very nice and willing to help.
Online tests are kind of on the challenging side, but she is one of the nicest teachers at ARC. Pretty hard to fail with her. Easy in class quizzes and group work points.
I love Chen! I had her for Macro Econ and she is super sweet and she makes it super easy for the class to understand the material. Dont listen to people who say you don't need the textbook. We never use the textbook in class, but you will need it for exams. Quizzes will be based off lecture, mainly mathematical concepts. Will take her for micro!
One of my most challenging classes, tests were hard, the way I got an A was by reading thoroughly and understanding the concepts and content in each page. Never used the study guides just read all the chapters and underlined important things. Quizzes aren't very easy, study the math and do it exactly like she shows and you should be fine.
Some people say she is a tough grader, that's what it seemed like at first, on every test I got a grade in around the "B" range. I was worried I would get a B in the class but she has soo much extra credit! What was supposed to be 1000 possible points in class overall turned out to be around 1100! I didn't listen in class OR read the book. Got 97%
1000 points possible, 100+ points extra credit, easy "A", REALLY nice teacher! Seemed like a tough grader at first, but then I found out that about 1/10 of the stuff I did (Homework, group works, tests, quizzes) was extra credit!!! Eventually I got 97.7% in her class, I got a few "C"s and "B"s on the tests. 1 test and 1 quiz both get thrown out.
Amazing professor. I was terrified to take this class since everyone says she's a hard grader. Class out of 1,000points. Offers 40 points Extra credit for taking RAD. As well as (some hW, and quizzes). Super easy teacher. Test online use your resources. Drops one quiz and one exam. Best Econ teacher and easiest out their. And she super sweet lady.
Good professor. Learned a lot of stuff. Everything is online except quizzes and some group work. Some mathematical concepts you will need to know, but she goes over all of them. There are no retakes but she does drop a quiz and an exam.
(+) Chen is probably the most straightforward professor on this campus. Easy A - answers can be found online She drops your lowest quiz and test. Quizzes and test are identical to classwork (-) Don't be late she won't let you take the quiz There are group classwork assignments, you miss it you can't make it up $100 online textbook/homework tool
Sweet professor, very helpful. Lectures at a pace where everyone can be caught up even with taking notes. Exams are online, drops lowest exam and quiz. Some questions are word to word from book so you may have to read on the side to do well( unless you get lucky google).
Very good class. Prof. Chen wants you to succeed and teaches accordingly. Definitely get the online book instead of the physical copy. The only compliant is that she is very hard to hear because of her thick chinese accent and soft tone of voice.
As a person, I love Prof. Chen! As a teacher, however, I'm not so sure. The way she taught calculations during class was spot on. However, what bothered me the most, ooh the most, is the exams. Her lectures did NOT prepare you for the exams. The exams are strictly by textbook, so get ready to read! Lots of extra credit, though!(nearing the end)
She is a really nice older asian woman who is very difficult to understand because of her thick accent. Her class is basically online. All the homework and tests are done online. What makes this class difficult is that majority of the stuff on tests is not learned in class you have to read it on your own. She drops worst test and quiz.
Professor Chen is a great professor, I took her for Econ 302 and 304. The tests are difficult, but if you do well on the quizzes and homework then you will pass. We only used the textbook in class twice. If you can study well with an ebook, don't buy the loose leaf. You will receive the ebook included with the connect code.
Her class is honestly kind of boring and drawn out. She's a good professor if you put effort towards actually learning. I'm not a business major but I needed micro for my major, so naturally I did not care to really push for that A but I still got a B through minimal effort. Just don't skip class and you're good.
There's a curve at the end, definitely. But you really need to stay on top of your grade to be sure that you'll get the grade you're aiming for. She's very kind, and makes the material easy to understand if you pay attention during class. This class wasn't necessarily an easy A but you don't have to reach TOO far to get it. Would take again.
Worst professor. She has an accent and does not speaks up enough. You have to read a book before each class. You must care your textbook in class because during the group work I would need it. All tests online. She does not give real examples. Do not waste your time. Take somebody else.
Difficult to understand her at times but if you have questions, just ask her. She knows everything. The textbook was only mandatory because of the online code used was included with the book, all homework/tests were online
Professor Chen is awesome. Tests and homework are all online. Make sure to read your textbook before the test because the tests are mainly from the reading. Professor Chen helps a lot when you ask and is very thorough even though she has a Chinese accent. I would totally take her class again!
Easy class. Uninspired professor. She's been teaching this same course for 20 years and it shows in how much she cares about what she's doing. I haven't read a word of the textbook all semester and I have an A. I'm interested in business and econ, but the way she teaches makes me feel dejected about it. She just repeats definitions over and over.
Easy class if you show up and pay attention. She is a prof that will drop your lowest grade so that's a plus. She does have an accent but nothing major. There are group assignments but overall easy class
Taken over summer, first mistake, there isn't enough room to describe the frustration of her teaching methods. So ill use one example, the homework questions are phrased differently than explained in class and when looking at the book for clarification it'll be a different formula than was given, you cannot see what you answered wrong after ur done
Professor Chen is awesome! You have to put in the effort to get a good grade but she's super clear in her expectations. Her lectures and real world examples help you understand the content. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed. I would take classes with her again in the future, for sure.
I took her class in summer, it's not an easy class but u could learn a lot. She is a very patient person, she can use many examples to solve my confusion. If u want to learn something, you can choose her. Every exam has 50 problems, but u do have many chances on extra credits and group working.
She is a very good professor, she uses McGraw-Hill for homework and exams. Quizzes and group works are done in person. Her lectures and quizzes are easy to understand, but for exams, prepare yourself from reading the text multiple times. They are really hard concept questions, and also try to relate it to the real-world in order to memorize.
Professor Chen is so sweet. She is understanding and even though her accent is heavy, she is very understanding and knowledgeable about economics. Her tests are online and I had a B in the class for most of the class until the end where it dropped to a C, but she bumped it up to a B... She's so sweet, highly recommend !
Her lectures are wonderful, she makes sure she repeats herself twice before asking if anyone has questions. Everything is mainly online and as long as you pay attention in class/do the exercises, and do the reading you should do well on the tests. The material can be hard but if you communicate with her she'll help you if you get confused.
She makes it very easy to understand, and the homework is through connect and is very simple and easy to understand. She does have a small accent but she repeats things so you wont miss anything. She does have a textbook but as long as you just go over it you should be fine. Highly Recommend!
Professor Chen uses an online source where you can access all of the homework assignments and thats where you will take the exams. The homework is easy and straight forward, but the tests were extremely difficult, but luckily you can take them online at home so you have the power of google. Other than those assignments she gives group projects.
Shes really understanding as a professor to her students. I really like her teaching style. She has been a professor since years, so shes super knowledgeable. Shes kind of old fashion because she does everything on the board. Study for quizzes. However, exams and homework and online ($$)!
Professor Chen is by far one of the best professors I have taken at ARC. She is respectful and kind to all her students. She emails back in less than 24 hours and helps you out. I didn't think I liked economics until I took her class. Her assignments are straight forward and quizzes and exams are based on the book and her powerpoints and notes.
Took it online. She gives you a week to read every chapter. The book is very easy to read and pretty self- explanatory. No lectures. Exam every 3 chapters. Homework is due before the exam day. Discussion posts are easy, 1 per 3 chapters. 3 quizzes total, 5 exams, with the lowest being dropped for both. Homework becomes optional for exam#4 & 5.
Im a high school student taking her class! She is a very nice and good Professor. She always answers my stupid questions through email. Group project takes me a lot of times. She will also give extra credits in the end of the semester. It is a easy A if you do your work!
Professor Chen was wonderful. She always gave thoughtful feedback and was encouraging to the whole class. The homework load was manageable and not too difficult. I would absolutely take a class from her again!
No lecture, just read the book. The book is easy, written for dummies. Gives you 3 weeks to read 3 chapters, then exam. No final or Midterm, no quizzes. One semester long group project which is verrrrrry easy you can do it all by yourself in 1 day. One exam is dropped. Exam: 50q - 120min, can find answers on quizlet)
Professor is fair, gives extra credit as she wants you to do well in her class. A lot of reading but she gives plenty of study guides. Tests were long, but as long as you read and complete work on time you will get a passing grade. I struggled in this class, yet I ended with a B. Assignments and quizzes are all on McGraw Hill connect.
Easy to communicate with and can help you if needed. But for the most part, you teach the class yourself and just read from the book. Not a lot of work but you need to read the book a lot.
Took this class during the summer and one exam was dropped at the end which is nice. The exams got harder and harder because the material was more difficult. The order that the professor gives the assignments doesn't make sense, the first week is a chapter from the end of the book. I recommend filling in the gaps with youtube videos. HW is easy!
If you want someone who is not lenient to do anything/ take her.
Prof. Chen is very consistent. All of her modules for asynchronous classes are extremely easy to follow, all assignments are posted well in advance. If you you don't mind reading the textbook, the class is very straight forward.
She's an okay teacher but I wouldn't recommend her.
take this class! there's so much extra credit, it's amazing. she is easy to talk to and responds very quickly. everything is on mcgraw hill and she offers lecture notes of her own. There's 5 exams, 3 quizzes & 5 discussion posts. your lowest gets dropped. homework is super easy, there is no way you can fail this class or even get lower than a B
Took summer class 6 weeks. 5 exams, 5 discussions, 3 quizzes there's hw but you can google most of it. Fairly simple class, read textbook for hw. Exams are worth a lot. First 2 exams 150 pts and last 3 are 165 pts. Each question worth 3 pts. Drops lowest exam, discussion, and quiz. There's a syllabus quiz as well. Fairly easy class, just test heavy
Summer 6 wk course 3 quizzes, 5 exams, 5 discussion, and hw on McGrawHill. Drops lowest quiz, exam, and discussion at the end of course. U can Chegg basically everything but you will need to read the book for discussions. Final grade is total points u earned out of 1000. Ex if you have 991/1120 end of course it'll be 991/1000. Straightforward class
I did the group project ALONE and prof. said the most she can do was email them to help. I gave her many ideas whether to give others 0 or have we do a group evaluation. She said no to both. The other 2 students got 65/70 points from MY work. I didn't submit the last part of the project so we all got 0 on that. Still got an A through extra credit
Everything was asynchronous so you learn by yourself, but I LOVED how clear she was on everything in the class. She gave very specific due dates and answered questions very well. She also gave personal feedback on every single discussion post we did. I loved that, it's rare for a professor to give personal feedback. Tests are hard so be prepared.
Class is very easy. Five exams and lowest one is dropped, 3-5 assignments per exam which are very easy.
Professor Chen was great. The lectures were informative & short. There's only 5 exams & 3 quizzes. Your lowest quiz & exam is dropped. There's 3-5 assignments for each exam, all are easy. There are PLENTY of extra credit opportunities. This class was by far the best economics class I've taken, Professor Chen is one of the best Econ Prof. I've had.
She gives out clear grading expectations. When writing a response to a question or to another student she will try her best to reach out and tell what you did wrong. There is a total of 3 quizzes and 4 exams. She will drop the lowest quiz, exam, and discussion assignment. Exams and quizzes are a huge part of your grade.
Never take her class.
The class was pretty great. During her 6-week summer classes, she does 4 exams and 3 quizzes. She drops the lowest-scoring exam. The homework gives you two tries but the questions change every time. Be prepared to read as there is a lot of information you need to go over. She provides feedback on the discussion board and you can go back and fix it.
3 quizzes (50 points), 5 exams (150/last three are 165), 5 discussion boards (10 points), 2-3 HW assignments per module (10-20 points each). All done on connect. Lowest quiz/exam grade are dropped (2/3 & 4/5 counted). 40 point extra credit opportunity, your earned points are counted out of 1,000 at the end. I had a B at the end and went up to an A.
Class consisted of homework, tests, discussions, and quizzes. All are automatically graded by Connect except for the discussions, which she gives feedback on. Pretty easy to pass if you read the textbook and do the exam reviews.
Beware if you are thinking about taking this professor. If you want to learn economics, do not take this professor as she will only teach algebra in her classes where she is supposed to be teaching economics. If you are strong in algebraic math and good at algebraic graph creation, and do not want to learn economics then this is the prof for you.
The class was overall great and easy to follow through. Prof. Chen is very clear on deadlines and what needs to be done. There are a total of 5 exams but only a total of 4 are counted. Only 3 quizzes but only 2 are counted. And drops your lowest-scoring exam/quiz.
ECON302 with Prof. Chen is a test-heavy class, but she makes it manageable. Lectures are clear, and the grading system is straightforward - drop your lowest quiz, exam, and discussion. Unstuckstudy was super helpful for study prep, alongside the textbook. Overall, a solid econ class.
Great class, it wasn't too hard. Taking notes during lectures is definitely required since there isn't much homework so you study using your notes for quizzes. She's a really sweet lady. I would take her class again!
Sweetest lady ever! Has an embedded grade curve based on assignment points NOT percentage. Attendance is mandatory for week 1, but not onwards but group work done in lecture is mandatory. Be wise and actually show up to class! Lectures are very helpful and the material is easier to self study with it. All exams are remote! Love Prof. Chen!!!
She was the best! Lectures were amazing and she hands out practice sheets so that we can try the material which is the best. Dont skip on group work days. It is a part of the grade and theres a lot throughout the semester so choose your days wisely. Overall great course and awesome professor.
Amazing. She will give you feedback within minutes to an hour after submission and give you chances to improve your grade. I took her for both ECON 302 and 304. Lowest graded quiz, discussion, and exam gets dropped. Extra credit is helpful and not overly difficult.
Professor Chen was great. I took her class for both ECON 302 and ECON 304, and I think that getting an A in both sections is very attainable. Her syllabus is very clear about her expectations. All of her homework is graded through McGraw Hill Connect, and tests are taken on Connect as well. There are some in class assignments which are group work.
Definitely recommend! Her class is pretty easy, especially if you do the reading. There's a discussion, HW assignments, and an exam in each module. There are also 3 quizzes. She does drop the lowest grade of ur exam and quizzes, so that was helpful. If you're able to, I would recommend taking this first and ECON 304 second as 8-week courses.
