Dr. Northrop gives great lectures that go along with a PowerPoint she typically provides before class. You definitely need to take good notes to be able to make an A in the class. Attendance is not mandatory to pass, but you will need a way to get the info from the lecture. Dr. Northrop is very clear with her expectations. She is a great professor.
Dr. Northrop is an exceptional professor in that she knows the information so well that she can relay it in an interesting and enjoyable way. She has a very upbeat and funny personality, and she gives students every opportunity to pass with resources such as study guides. If you want to enjoy your history class, then take her!
Dr. Northrop is a great professor. She is one of the only people that leave me in awe of how well read she is on her subjects. She was definitely one of the classes I looked forward to attending. There aren't a whole lot of grades but she does give study guides for tests as well as extra credit.
Dr. Northrop is AMAZING!! She is one of my favorites!! I love her lectures and she always has quirky, random facts that she adds in. The only grades in the class are 2 tests, a one page essay over the Hamilton soundtrack and the final. You don't need to get the textbook so don't waste your money!! I am taking her next semester as well!!
Hands down, one of my favorites classes and professors. She has an abundance of knowledge and you can tell she genuinely loves history. She knows the subject so well that she can explain it in a way that is understandable. Come to class and take good notes and you can easily make an A. Ask questions to, she is always willing to help!
Dr. Northrop was a very straight forward prof. There was only a few tests and a project that you're graded on so make sure you keep up with grades, or you will be behind. Extra credit is offered but not incredibly necessary.
Professor Northrop was alright but I wouldn't exactly say that she stays on topic. She uses power points ,and we have 10 online quizzes , 2 tests (midterm&final) includes MC , fill in the blank , and an essay, we also must write a paper on Hamilton. She talks really fast but she helps you if you struggle ,you just have to talk to her .
Dr. Northrop is an amazing professor. I walked into her class last semester just for the credit, but I actually love history now. She is very kind and helpful. If I ever need help, she is more than willing to answer questions or offer help. If time allowed, I would take another one of classes.
Dr. Northrop is an amazing professor. I walked into her class last semester just for the credit, but I actually love history now. She is very kind and helpful. If I ever need help, she is more than willing to answer questions or offer help. If time allowed, I would take another one of her classes.
Shes an amazing teacher and she is so passionate about this subject. She's very open minded and helps her students if they need help. she does go at a rather fast pace so u should definitely take notes! NOTES ARE A MUST! i hated history until i took her class! Shes one of my favorite professors at TCC NE! TAKE HER!
She's my favorite professor this semester. Good lectures (if a little faster than I can write) and has a good sense of humor.
I was nervous at first as it is a LECTURE only class. Took for Summer. Fast paced but amazing! She's SO passionate and the info's easy to take in because of her HUMOR. She's willing to work with you & provide extra credit through out course. Easy if you put in the work. Definitely taking again.
She's a awesome professor, she jokes around in classes and her humor will just make you laugh even if the joke was corny . The lectures are fun, extra credit is great, the exams are more than fair
She knows her history, her passion makes you want to learn more. Her class is lecture heavy so if you don't intend of going to class you won't pass. She gives a handful of extra credit opportunities which are a huge help. Overall pretty great teacher, def would take her again!
Dr. Northrop is pretty chill. If you like the kind of professor who just talks, then take her class. She is a great professor but you have to play super close attention or else you wont pass. Everything that is on the tests come straight out of her mouth. For our class we had an SI so that really helped me out.
Dr. Northrop is really awesome! She gets off topic sometimes, but the stories she tells are super funny! Her class is straight lecture, but she really dumbs down History for you so its easier to understand. Shes super laidback & funny. We had a couple quizzes online that were super easy (you just read an article & answer questions). Take her!
Mrs. Northrop is a solid professor and if you just study, take notes, and show up you will pass also there is a ton of extra credit work. I will say be ware she is very loud so don't sit up at the front of the class. Overall she's a eight out of ten would take again.
Dr. Northrop is super sweet and funny. I have loved her class this semester. She is very passionate about what she does. She teaches in a style that makes the class fun and interesting. No textbook, only attendance & taking your own notes so pay attention & come to class. Tests are fair. MC questions, FIB, SA & essay. She gives essays prior to exam
Dr. Northrop is hilarious! Her class is honestly super EASY! You have three tests including the final, 10 online quizzes (all you have to do is read an article & answer questions), and she gives out EC! Her tests are multiple choice, short answers, FIB, and an essay! She sometimes gets off topic, but she's super funny, which made lectures enjoyable
This class was extremely difficult for me. She is a wonderful person and super funny, but her teaching style was not a fit for me. Her powerpoints were just pictures and she says all the information so you better write it down the first time. No words on slides to copy down. Also, no review, just a term sheet, doesn't really help with the test.
I had Northrop for another class so needless to say she is awesome and funny at times. Study your notes go to class and read the power points and you will pass. fair warning she is loud though.
I took Dr Northrop for history 1301 and 1302. She is super hilarious and makes the class enjoyable and entertaining. I am not a fan of history but I love her class. There's little homework and the tests are graded fairly and she's a very lenient grader when it comes to grading essays. I would definitely recommend her.
Overall the most enjoyable class I've taken so far. She actually makes you want to show up to class no matter if you know the lectures already. Her lectures are enjoyable and she is hilarious. Would recommend taking Dr. Northrop to anyone needing HIST1301/1302
She's very funny and gets off track often but I don't mind it since it's funny. There's no homework but there are assignments you have to complete before a certain date but she gives you enough time to complete them. She's very lenient with the essay portion of the class, they'll save your grade. I'm planning on taking her again for HIST 1302
Dr. Northrop is a gem among pebbles in the teaching world. Truly cares about her students and the subject she teaches and is very knowledgeable about history so you can know the information is correct. The funniest professor Ive ever had and makes it very easy to pass the course. Wish I could take the course again.
Honestly one of the BEST professor out there for history. I took an online class with her and she's so fast on responding to email. Prof. Northrop's pretty clear on what she requires you to do in order to maintain a good grade in her class. Extra credit is offered with every exam (10 pts each EC). I 100% recommend taking her!
This is a great class. The professor is friendly, really friendly. She is nice enough but extremely loud. I mean really loud. Overall, the lectures are light and not much to them. You must show up to class to know what is going on. I had her last year, but I'm doing my rating now.
Listen in class, go home watch A 8 minute video on Crash course, go home take practice quizzes on khan academy you will be just fine on the test. 3 test. 10 quizzes(total of 100 pts) . 2 essays. The class is test heavy which can be a benefit or hindrance depending on study habits. Would take again easily.
She's a very sweet lady and has a lot of compassion towards history. Her lectures will never bore you but sometimes she does go a little fast. There are 10 online quizzes due at the end of the semester plus 2 essays but they really help your grade. Tests are not too hard if you take good notes. I don't like how she doesn't provide a review though.
I took her class for Hist 1301 and 1302. She was a great professor. All you have to do is listen and take light notes. She creates her own tests (only 3) and they are only over what she covers in class. 10 quizzes over readings that are interesting and the answers are word for word in the reading. 2 papers, good grade boosters. She made history fun
Chloe seems really sweet but it is difficult to take her seriously when she talks like a 16 year old teen. Her tests are relatively difficult, however it is deff doable. Make sure you get ahead on the assignments because she posts them at the start of the semester. She offers alot of extra credit so no reason to fail this class.
Took this class online and didnt even really need to book. Your due dates are set and pretty light work load. Only had 1 week that was double work that was stressful. The final was an essay and pretty easy to complete, not a harsh grader.
Prefers our writing to be "to the point", has 4 unit exams which requires a lot of writing, weekly tests, and sometimes additional quizzes/ short analysis. Grading is fair/ justifiable. Online course layout, coordination is very methodical and easy to follow. Be ready to read a lot. Lots of extra credit chances. I got an easy A with no extra credit
Took history 1301. Class was okay- all her tests in the folders are on quizlet so dont bother with textbook. Her end of unit exams are pretty lengthy essays and shes a petty grader so be wary. Not an easy A but doable, wouldnt take her again. She does offer 10 pt extra credit per test, but it requires you writing a 1page paper.
Dr. Northrop is a great history professor and she's really nice, but she's kind of annoying. She tries to make the lectures interesting by relating them to her personal life, but literally no average college student can relate because it's rich people stuff. Her class isn't hard, but it's hard to listen to her
The class consists of you hearing her lecture 99% of the time. No in class assignments. She uses powerpoints to teach but they have no words which makes it hard to get notes. Shes very loud and talks like a 16 year old. Theres 10 quizzes with readings, 2 tests plus final and 2 essays. Wouldnt take her again, her way of teaching isnt for me.
I have taken her for 1301 and 1302. Would highly recommend her to anyone. She has a very extroverted personality and it shows how energetic she is in her lectures. I would be surprised if you fell asleep during a lecture. So many extra credit opportunities. Overall, she is an amazing professor that I would 100% take again.
She is an awesome professor! So much energy and great sense of humor. You can do good on the exams as long as you take notes and study. I would recommend her to anyone thinking about taking this class.
Prof Northrop is by far one of the most amazing professors I've had!! she's super awake in the morning and genuinely cares about her students:,) she adds little notes to help you remember events and people, and she explains everything in an easy, understanding way. i wish she could teach me everything I need to know in life<3
I took Professor Northrop's online class for History, and everything is self explanatory. You can work ahead on assignments and she's a fast grader which helps. All her exams are essays, and each unit has either a discussion post or open ended short response! I'm not that into history and this was an easy A. Professor Northrop gives good feedback
Her grading guidelines are not very clear. She gives you feedback on all of your assignments except for the tests. She grades the papers fairly quickly, it is hard to tell if she is really reading your papers.
Dr. Northrop is an amazing teacher. She makes her lectures interesting. There are 3 tests, 2 papers, and 10 online quiz. She always posts Kahoots before the test. She is the best teacher for history.
As long as you read, ask questions, and take advantage of the extra credit assignments, you should have no problem getting an A.
There is ALOT of reading involved but it taught me so much. There are a lot of 200-250 word entries you have to submit but super easy if you read. Tests are easy too! She gives great feedback on every assignment. Again, read it all and follow her instructions and you will get an A. No proctor!
Amazing professor. All the assignments were based upon the supporting documents and material provided. Organized and has a clear grading rubric.
Be prepared to read a lot of material and write at least 2 papers a week. It sounds like more then what it really is, nothing difficult. Professor Northrop is a nit-picky grader but she is not bad overall. The course is broken up into 4 units and you can work at your own pace. Tests are also in written form which I liked.
Read only what pertains to the assignment or else you will read way too much. Lots of 250 word assignments but they are easy and Professor gives great feedback. Really felt like I learned in this class. Her tests are really easy. Pick a subject and write a 300 word paragraph on it and repeat for a total of 3 and 400 word for the ending essay.
I took Prof Northrop online. I felt like the assignments were pretty self explanatory. The course was somewhat writing intensive. Lots of discussion boards and the like, but she's not a terribly tough grader. I felt like she was mostly looking for participation. She gave opportunities for extra credit with each exam. I would recommend her!
I took this as an accelerated summer course, and do not recommend this for anyone who works full-time or takes other courses. Lots of reading, and multiple short essay assignments due nearly every day. There were a total of 30 assignments and 4 tests in a 1 month class. Great content, and learned a lot, but there was so much work.
I took summer semester II 2020, and I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Northrop kept a wide variety of content for the lessons that was intriguing and resourceful. All of the assignments are easily accessible, and available for you to be worked worked on at your own pace. Many short, writing assignments but very clear on grading.
Dr. Northrop made this course super educational, though it did take a lot of work. The work is not necessarily difficult, but it is time consuming, so make sure to plan well.
I love her and I wish she was my prof for every single course. There are no quizzes or tests, just writing assignments, even for the midterm. As long as you generally know about the topic of discussion and can meet a word count, this class is an easy A. I didn't read the textbook or the attachments she provided, I just researched on google.
My entire semester was made up of essays and as long as you go over the resources she gives you, youll make an A. I recommend her 100% !
No tests, no quizzes. She gives you material about a historic event, you go over that material and answer some questions in paragraph form. You could simply write down your thoughts and she'll give you a good grade. Exams are the same thing but instead you choose a couple of topics provided throughout the course. Very easy, and I still learned.
HIST is not my best subject but taking Prof. Northrop's two week course writing assignments every single day actually helped me actually learn HIST! This class is writing heavy and she leaves feedback when you are not extremely detailed. Also takes off a few points but don't let it discourage you like it has to me. Grades and responds quickly!
Took this class as a Maymester and decided to finish early. Dr. Northrop was very quick to grade assignments and follows up with email quickly. If you listen to the lecture and follow the instructions of the assignment specifically, and if you are a strong writer, you will be fine. If you are not a strong writer choose another professor.
I haven't had a professor I enjoy more than Dr. Northrop. Her lectures are fun and interesting, and she is super relatable and likable. You definitely have to put the work in to get a good grade, but with her lectures and the provided material it isn't hard if you're dedicated and paying attention.
I took this class as a summer classes here and it was great. There is a lot writing involved but it is nothing you don't know. The assignments were quick and easy. I knew nothing about history but the sources she provided the class helped me. It consist of a mixture of videos and articles to read, but most of all, she typically ask for your opinion
As long as you read the material and watch the lectures (which are so great and fun), you can pass this class with a high grade. Dr. Northrop is literally the best teacher I've ever had. There is a lot of writing involved, but she asks for your personal assessments and opinions, not just a summarization. Take her class, you'll love it.
The best History Teacher I ever had! Entertaining and easy class. As long as you are able to spend 30 min on homework a week, youll get a hundred on the assignments (make sure to cite your sources). Her tests are a lot of writing but its on your own time, takes about 2-3 hours (3 total tests). You dont need to cram for a test, its all online.
Dr Northrop is a decent professor, but only replies to questions with short, curt answers that make you feel silly for asking. There is SO MUCH writing--2 essays 250 each EVERY week (sometimes more!). And SO much reading I don't watch the lectures anymore. I feel like there aren't clear guidelines for grades, either. I wouldn't take her again.
Her class is not that bad. Shes not a tough graded. BUT THERE IS A TON OF WRITING!! There are probably like 2 parts to each exam and you have to follow a certain word count which mostly likely is 300+ words.
There is a lot of writing in this class so if thats not your strongest subject then I would recommend you choose someone else. Reading the lectures is very important because although theres no quizzes, there are discussion boards and the tests are essays which from my point of view, easier than doing multiple-choice tests.
Dr. Northrop was a good professor. I took her class in wintermester so I knew it was going to be fast and hard but it went very well. She provided the assignments clearly and also graded very fast. If you miss a few points, she will allow you to get them back if you answer the question she puts in the comments. Overall was a great professor.
Shes the best!there is a quiz and a writing assignment due each week sometimes there are two of each due. The tests are 3-4 small responses + a 1 page essay. She gives tons of extra credit, and she is very understanding when it comes to turning things late, she is fast at grading and fast at responding messages. Do your work and get an easy A.
8wk course so I expected a lot of work. She made it clear this class was mostly writing. 2 250 word responses a week and 4 exams (3 100 word short answers on topic of your choice and 1 300 word essay). Loved her lectures. She is funny! Clear grading. TONS of extra credit. She gives great feedback and wants you to pass. Definitely taking her again!
She was amazing! A caring teacher and always gave original feedback and added interesting fun facts. All her assignments were pretty clear and she offered extra credit before each test. I would definitely recommend her she a is very genuine.
Amazing! Professor assignments and tests consisted of writing only. I recommend taking this class if you are trying to take multiple classes at one time. The professor also offers extra credit before every single test. I honestly wish that professor Northrop taught other subjects.
I loved Dr Northrop! Her class does have a lot of papers but it's mainly opinion based. So easy and you learn so much in that class! She was the reason I woke up after babysitting until 3a.m. I loved her lectures! There isn't a more perfect professor! Extra credit is fun like watching movies or going to museums. So much fun!
Easy, but tedious. The content of the class is straightforward and the lectures were good, but the amount of writing is ridiculous. I took history 1302 with another professor (also online, 4 weeks), which was more test based and less heavy on the writing, which seemed to deliver the same amount of knowledge with a lot less busy work.
This is basically an English class. Tests are not multiple choice, you have to type short answers for the topics. The midterms require an actual essay. If i wanted to be in English I'd take English
She really cares about her students and it shows, her assignments are all written and quite time consuming but the topics were engaging and thought provoking. This class was a lot of work but it was effective, I would definitely take her class again.
Was more stressful at times than my science major classes. Never responded as to why she took points off my tests and midterm. Marked things wrong when I clearly stated what she asked for. Got an A but really had to work for it. Its all writing which is why I chose her but the amount was ridiculous. For a history class she needs to lighten the load
She is a tough grader. I would not recommend her she gives a lot of assignments. Was very difficult to get a good grade in her class.
Everyone said be prepared to write, and every single assignment is a writing assignment, to include tests. I wish her lectures had been live, instead of recycled, but they were great. The writing assignments honestly aren't that long so it makes it less daunting.
Took class during wintermester, we had 1-2 assignments a day typically 250-300 words each. It was fast paced, but that's what you sign up for during wintermester. Professor Northrop was quick to respond to emails and graded very fairly. It was overall an easy class as long as you put in effort!
So many papers , I am so tired. Just let me take a test and move on.
I took professor Northrop my first semester in TCC and honestly.. she's one of the BEST teachers I've had so far so nice, caring, and understanding! she gives many extra credit opportunities like going to museums or watching videos! I suggest taking her class easy A yall!
This was one of my first courses fully online and she exceeded my expectations for online professors. Her instructions were very clear, and she gave video recorded lectures which were extremely helpful. Participation is important as there were assignments due each week. Her syllabus was clear and concise. She emailed back promptly. 10/10!
Obnoxious. Likes to remind you how she got her Ph.D. in history. Loads of tedious writing assignments with absolutely no breaks in between exams. The way she grades is extremely frustrating bc she grades your papers based on HOW SHE FEELS. You can go above and beyond and still fall short. Has no grading standard for students to know how to meet.
Mrs. Northrop was amazing, took her for Summer 1 HIST1301; she gave great feedback and was very clear with what she expected in our assignments. Had about 4 250-300 word papers to write every week but as long as you read the material and answer the questions in the prompt they weren't hard at all.
I absolutely do not recommend her to anyone. Her class is basically another English class. She refuses to give me those 2 points I need to get a 100 on assignments because she asks me questions in the submission comments that I've literally answered in my paper. There are no clear grading guidelines and she grades very subjectively.
This course is writing based!!! I didn't mind it at all as I already knew it would be. The course wasn't too difficult. If you read the sources provided and take the time to understand the material you should get an easy A on your assignments. I received nothing but As just by following those 2 steps. Professor Northrop is the best!
There are an average of 2 assignments a week. Not long assignments though. She is fair in grading and will offer feedback. Best thing about Dr. Northrop is that she proofreads important assignments, gives you advice on how to improve your work. Most assignments were written essays. No quizzes or multiple choice tests.
Easy class overall but there are no clear grading rubrics and she grades subjectively. Doesn't give very helpful feedback so unsure of what to improve upon and responses feel robotic/unconstructive. Her lectures are hard to follow as she goes off on many tangents. Feels like I'm taking an English class with the amount of reading/writing there is.
I really enjoyed her class. Everything was open-ended, so if you're a good writer, it shouldn't be an issue. She offered 10 points of extra credit for every test, and she let you send her your test before submitting it for feedback. She gave about 2 assignments a week, and they were due on Sunday. She also replied quickly to emails.
I took History 1302 for summer 2, she gave good feedback on assignments. Here syllabus is very clear on what is expected of her course. You will have 2 writing assignments to do every other day. There will be essays included in her course as well. Not hard at all just be ready to read. Extra credit is also available.
There were never quizzes assigned, purely writing which wouldn't have been an issue if the grading guidelines were clear. The assignment instructions would explicitly tell you to write one thing and the professor would give feedback saying you missed something not listed. Grading was highly subjective, however the assignments were easy enough.
Grading sucks. She would provide clear guidelines and then dock off points even if you follow the rubric exactly. I followed one of the essay rubrics exactly but she docked off ten points because I didn't bring up the example that she would have used, but it was supposed to be from my perspective, not hers. Just don't expect her to grade fairly.
Her written responses to the weekly prompts seemed to be devoid of a professor that took the time to read the entire student's work. Her responses were always less than a sentence long and were overly vague. It would help if her comments were aimed at helping her students improve their historical knowledge.
Every assignment is an essay, including exams. No rubric is provided so you have to learn by trial and error how she wants your essays written. Also, you will have multiple assignments due on the same day as your tests. Every other professor I have provides a detailed rubric and does not assign work on top of tests. It's just too much honestly.
The professor Northrop was good doing her job because in every video she uploads gives a positive attitude and a good way to understand the topics. Also, gives you an extra credit opportunity to join to discussions about movies related to the US history.
Every assignment is a writing assignment with at least 250+ words expected. Don't forget to cite your sources. Overall I think Professor Northrop really enjoys teaching History so she expects a lot, but it isn't hard work. She gives lots of sources to find information from, which is overwhelming at first. She offers lots of extra credit.
The only assignments are essays, and they are absolutely constant. Her guidelines give the illusion of being clear, but she nitpicks the essays on things that are not included in the guidelines. She is very harsh on grading, with no clear rubrics, and is overly vague in comments - leading to a lot of trial and error in early essays.
Shes obviously very passionate about teaching history which makes her lectures entertaining however out of all my classes this semester I've had to spend the most time on hers it's very time consuming and she is pretty tough on grading especially essays. There is also proctored quizzes which I have struggled to pass even after hours of studying.
Difficult class with tough, proctored weekly quizzes—some questions cover material from upcoming chapters, so good luck on those. Video lectures tend to be hyper and scattered. Expect 3 video assignments and plenty of essays and journals. Be sure to do all Unit extra credit opportunities, as they can add a couple of numbers to your final score.
Nitpicky grader on essays, will grade you outside the given guidelines. Give way too much reading for a minimester. 2 textbooks 4 or more lengthy articles and 1-3 30 minute lecture videos for quizzes. pulls material from up coming chapters. Vagues feedback to on essays. No clear standard of grading.
