While professor Chong does have real world experience with Java, his expertise with it is limited. He also simply does not have the skill of teaching the knowledge which he has. Most all students who have taken this class would advise you to take this from Prof. Ramachandran if possible. Attendance is not mandantory, but homework is everything.
I had no experience in programming when I took this class. I thought programming was a bit boring but Chong was very knowledgeable and made it more interesting through his real life examples and funny jokes. This class is for beginners. He is very willing to help students and is always available. Attendance is enforced through open book quizzes.
Chong is a great teacher who takes time to help his students learn. He is more than willing to go out of his way to help you understand the subject and will really help you when you get stuck on a particular tricky line of code. I highly recommend his work and his class. He is very nice and friendly and has a laid back attitude.
Wonderful!! He was always so helpful and easy to get a hold of. Highly recommended!! If you just ask for help he is there.
Chong is a such good teacher. He has great energy and enthusiasm for teaching. He is always available when you have questions. He gives you quick and helpful response. Data mining is a challenging course, but Chong's teaching makes it easy to follow and interesting. Highly recommended!
Chong is a great teacher and he is really goes the extra mile in helping students when they don't understand the concepts. I would highly reccommend Chong Oh as an instructor. IS 4415
Lots of content, work, and materials. But it was all worth it!
I really liked the way he taught and keep things in a structural manner , step by step learning .
I learn a lot, all positive feedback!
Great hands-on learning. Useful real-world practice of downloading tweets using the Twitter API.
Good class
Professor Oh is lack of programming knowledges. He is not able to answer any out of textbook questions even it is very basic. All the examples and exercise in this class are from the textbook.
Wonderful professor, you will have fun!
perfect
Very useful class. Got burned out on the coding due to the condensed nature of the course (5 weeks long). I would have appreciated to be introduced to Javascript and have chance to practice it more in class. Or also to be able to do exercises that involved writing original code instead of just regurgitating the in-class exercises for the projects.
Great professor, would take any class from him.
Great class and great professor!
I really enjoyed this class. Chong is a great teacher! I hope I can take more classes with him!
He is a very professional teacher and very knowledgeable in information systems. The class was very enjoyable, and I would take a class from him again.
Great guy, who really does care about the success of his students. Lectures are straight from the book, but attendance is required. If you go to class everyday it is an easy A.
a great professor easy A
Prof. Oh is super clear in his expectations. He covers everything that will be on the test in class. Basically, if you read the book, you're golden. Some of the labs are time-consuming, but nothing too drastic.
The class was very simple and very informative. Better than rigorous and forgetful. Possible the best class in the MSIS program.
Awesome class! Heightened my interest in big data. Labs were excellent, synopsis and reading assignments were very very helpful
Chong seems to give more assignments than other Professors of the same course. Every week there is a Reading Summary Due (a half page response to an article relating to IS), a quiz and a lab. As far as tests go there was only a Midterm and a Final. Not a terrible course load, but more than the others. The book is helpful for studying for exams
Professor Oh is a great teacher. He is very fair in how he conducts his class and is straightforward from what he expects from you. He lets you know what you need to do to get an A and while it isn't an easy A if you apply yourself and study the material you will do well in his classes.
IS just isn't my cup of tea so this class wasn't my favorite as expected. Some of the labs were interesting, but most of them just felt like busy work. This class also didn't fit my learning style since the textbook chapter reading is required before the lecture on the chapter with an in-class quiz following immediately after.
There are a lot of assignments, including weekly tech article summaries. Labs are interesting and usually very easy to complete. The tests are pretty tough, however Professor Oh was reasonable about omitting questions that were perceived as unfair. He offered extra credit about half-way through the semester that saved my A.
Chong is the man. Even for non-Information Systems majors, this class should be easy, informative, and useful for every student. He explains, at a high level, many interesting and crucial IS topics ranging from Social Media to Business Intelligence. If you don't do well in this class, you didn't do anything. Enjoy!
Lots of work. Homework was difficult
Quintessential instructor and class. No recommended improvements. Textbook was not needed. Study the PPT lectures for quizzes and exams. There were multiple graded assignments due each day of class so you must attend.
Fun professor and fair grader
Attendance is important in this class. The exams are the most difficult part, but are easily buffered by many in-class points that are easy A's.
Attendance is not required, but there was a quiz the beginning of every class so if you didn't show up at all you would lose marks. Can leave after the quiz. There's also a class lab, but I didn't have an issue with doing on my own time. Great prof overall, as long as you paid some attention, you should pass.
I enjoyed the class because it required us to stay engaged in the lectures as well as the labs and summaries were relevant to the course as well as technology in modern society. Would recommend professor to future prospects.
Smart, nice, approachable, fair grader.
He really structures the class well. There are no surprises, which is nice. We covered a lot of interesting material, though it was hard to relate with a lot of it because I'm not an IS major. Still liked the class. Good professor.
This course had many languages to be taught in 10 classes. The professor did a very good job in balancing out and focusing on what was important and what could be self-taught.
His lectures are enjoyable and he does a good job making the topics relevant by relating them to current events. He walks you through all the labs. Passing the exam requires that you have completely read and understood the textbook.
My class consisted of a quiz and a reading summary almost every single time we had class. I got good grades on all of them though.
I took his Web-Application masters class. It was hard subject. I wish he taught us more with real world example than just follow the examples in the text book.
The group project for this class was a great experience and incorporated many of the things we learned in class. Heavy textbook use, but it's really useful as many of the HW projects can be completed if you read the text. Quiz at the beginning of each class.
If you show up and do your homework you should pass. Don't waste money on a book because you go over the chapter for an hour before every quiz (more than enough time to absorb all the material).
Professor Chong Oh is very good. Every homework assignment is hands on and he is always willing to make sure you understand. There is a quiz after every lecture in class so it's not too difficult to pass. Textbook was not used . There are a couple of group projects but they are not too difficult or time consuming.
Just a really cool person. I ended up with a B in his class, but I could've easily gotten an A if it weren't for my negligence. Oh, is willing to work with you to help you succeed. I had a business trip the week of finals and we organized an assignment to make up for my presentation. I would recommend him to anyone. AWESOME PERSON.
This class has been nonstop busy work. Weekly assignments include current events, quizzes, and meaningless "in-class exercises". This has been the most frustrating class I have ever taken.
This has just been one glorified high school class, which is extremely frustrating since it's supposed to be a 4000 level class. The lectures are straight from the book and offer little if any additional information on the chapters. He then decides to give absurd assignments, forcing you to comment on two other people's assignments. worthless class.
This class has been nice because it has been online! Chong Oh is super nice and willing to help you succeed. Sometimes his online homework directions were confusing and hard to follow but in the end it was an easy A.
Professor Oh was a perfect online professor. Frequent feedback with tangible lectures and consistent opportunity to learn. There was A LOT of busy work... but it was all easy and fairly applicable to course topics. For a required class, he made it worth wile. Lab/Current-Events/Easy Assignment/Quiz due every Sunday.
Lots of homework and the tests were very ambiguous. I would not take this class again. But I think maybe that is just the subject. Walked away feeling like I learned nothing and wasted money on tuition but the class is required for my major.
It's classes like this that make me want to protest America's current educational system. This class was nothing but worthless busy work, didn't learn a thing. To give you an idea of the type of assignments he gives, remember "current events" in elementary school? Where you summarized a news article? Yeah, we did that weekly in this COLLEGE class.
Chong is not a good teacher. He does not care for his students, you sit there and watch him code for 3 straight hours and then he expects you to go home and do hours worth of homework that is 10x more complex and difficult .
Professor Oh is a great online professor. There is busy work every week, but it isn't too bad. Weekly assignments and quizzes, two exams and a group project. He is a very nice guy and spends a lot of time getting to know his students.
This class was easy. Exams are straight from the e book. 1 group project, 6-7 labs which take 1-2 hours each, 12 quizzes of 10 questions multiple choice & 2 exams of 50 questions multiple choice, chapters 1-6 & 7-12. He allows 1 sheet of notes so what I did was copy/paste the lecture notes and printed them on paper both sides which is permitted.
Chong is a great outside class but as a prof I was disappointed in him. His lectures do not teach but show. He doesnt explain the concept hes using to code he assumes you know what hes talking about . The group project is a mess because its an online class. Files are not organized. The group project description was a maze of links. Tests were hard.
He is teaching outdated language and saying that it is widely used. He himself does not know what is widely being used. Also, he is using the same old materials from the past six years. He will give you 3 tasks to complete each week: project, homework, and lab. Almost 90% of the class, you need to teach yourself.
This professor genuinely cares about his student's success. Obviously knew what he was talking about and was solid in preparing his students for business and especially good for those who want computer oriented degrees.
Prof. Oh tried but it just isnt his scene. If you choose to take his class, be ready to be bombarded with labs, quizzes and homework almost every week, on top of a not well-explained group project. Be ready to have your grades oddly regraded at any point. Youll have to learn 80% by yourself if you need a good grade.
Professor Oh is a nice guy, but don't take any classes from him if you can. He doesn't prepare you for industry at all. He loves to have your write papers, even though the class is a coding class. Very vague instructions on projects and will grade ruthlessly.
This class hits on so many different aspects of web page design. So if you aren't paying attention to the labs or have a bad team, you'll be lost. Chong goes way to fast for you to learn anything and there are so many errors that one could experience.
Chong Oh is so awesome. Absolutely hilarious and enjoyable professor. His lectures were great and even though I couldn't go to a lot of them, they were always a treat. The class does get to be a lot of work but it is so worth it in the end because of how great of a professor he is and the genuine appreciation he has for his students.
I really loved BCOR2020. Ching is such an amazing professor, he is so funny and all of his lectures are straight to the point, easy to understand and informative. He is also amazing at responding, I get many responses back on canvas within 30min to 1 hour. Highly recommend.
Ching is an awesome professor that is super passionate about what he teaches and really cares about his students success! Always positive and tries to have fun. His assignments are things that relate to real world problems that help better understand what you are willing. Also learn good basic excel functions.
Such a caring guy! Really great professor and he really wants to see you succeed. There is a final group project that's a little tricky but other than that, if you do the homework and pay attention in lectures, it's a pretty easy A.
Amazing professor! Weekly assignments due every Sunday with labs and case studies to accompany lectures. Chapter quizzes and 2 Exams. Large group research paper at the end of the class and a presentation.
This was an alright class, there are a lot of lectures and labs but they are pretty straightforward. It wasn't my favorite and was difficult at times but you learn a lot. Make sure you and your group are on the same page with everything and KEEP it simple. Web page design is a slippery slope and you could be making more work.
One of the nicest professors you will ever encounter. Really enjoys teaching and tries his best to make things fun. Most of the people in class enjoy his enthusiasm and his comedy throughout lectures.
Chong was a great professor. Keept me intrested and is a fast responder to emails. Take this class with him!
A great credible professor, he knows what he's doing and talking about. Just do the assignments and you'll get an easy A. He is super nice and friendly, he fills his lectures with humor. If you take the class, especially take it with him. Just beware, there are some group projects and they may suck cuz of sucky team members, but still a good class.
Took his IS 4460 course as part of the IS Minor Summer Program abroad. The class was heavily focused on a difficult Group Project that focused on the functions of PHP and HTML primarily. He was readily available for help, but it was a lot of work for a 10 day timespan. However, I learned a lot and although his lectures can be rough, he teaches alot
Professor Oh is a very entertaining professor. His lectures can sometimes get a little repetitive with the videos he posts ahead of time, but other than that, the material was really straightforward and he keeps his class lighthearted. There are group projects, but halfway through the semester he made them individual projects instead.
Professor Oh is funny, very intelligent, and a great professor. This class is challenging and the group project is a LOT of work, but you will learn so much from this class it's worth it.
I expected more from his class, but it wasn't bad. Long lectures and assignments are required that have no relation to web apps. TA grades pretty easy which is nice. There is a big group project due at the end but as long as you have a good group it's not bad. Keep the project simple and as long as you fulfill all the requirements you'll do well.
Chong's class was decently difficult. He is a very kind and funny professor, but in a short time period, he does not teach coding very well. You have a big group project to make a website and your homework builds up to it. However, he doesn't directly teach you in class how to do the things he asks for in assignments
Professor Chong is not good at teacher IS. He has no idea what he is doing a lot of the time and when we walk through the guided projects in class, students frequently correct him on his mistakes and the TA often has to show him how to do stuff. He is terrible at responding to emails and comes off rude in them when you just need help.
You will have a couple assignments per week that can add up but they're typically easy to complete if you pay attention in class. He is super forgiving on grades/ late work if you talk to him face to face.
This class was interesting because it was very code-heavy, however you just learn via copying what the professor does. I think this class lacks any real learning and rather teaches replication.
usually a quiz and a lab a week, both fairly easy and can do from home (with the codes for the quizzes). he does not teach very well though and half the time the TA has to teach him how to do something. also takes forever to grade and reply to students.. I just started going to the TA instead and he was great!
very nice and funny. very good at explaining the material.
Professor Oh is an amazing teacher and you should take him if you can. He teaches the content well and prepares you for your exams and group projects well. He is funny and keeps the classes entertaining.
Waste of time. You learn nothing from his class, you have to learn by teaching yourself. And he's always using outdated material and AI. Probably too lazy to work on his own notes and lectures.
The Professor is using AI and all of his labs are built on outdated systems. Everything that's layed out in the course is hard for the wrong reasons. It's confusing and lazy, and feels unacceptable with how expensive the business school is.
Ridiculous workload. Insanely long labs and homework. This is an introduction to IS class and a BRIDGE course for me, it's insane how much information is expected to be retained. This isn't my career, this won't come up in 99% of business classes.
I have no idea why Prof Oh has 1 stars from students. He is so awesome and sweet. He replies to emails fast, gives extensions on anything you ask for, and extra credit. Yes, his course has a bunch of busy work, but it's honestly not even that much. He's so funny and happy to teach. He's one of the best teachers. Y'all kinda trippin if you hate him.
Professor Chong is very caring and really cares about what he teaches. The class is very content and homework heavy. There are is a quiz, lab and roleplay every week so you have to put a lot of time towards this class. The exams can be pretty difficult.
One of the better professors I've had. Accessible outside of class during non-designated office hours. Seemed happy to help whenever I had questions. Extremely nice and helpful. Very passionate about what he teaches.
Prof Oh is so sweet. He gives extensions on anything you ask for & extra credit. His assignments are busy work, but honestly not too bad. He is super passionate about IS and emails back fast, but he uses AI too much. He literally sent us an AI podcast explaining the concepts as study material for our exam. I love him but this AI slop needs to stop
I took IS4487, which was not on the list. There was a LOT of reading and an intensive group project at the end. I agree with the review about AI. The majority of the labs you would complete with AI, which seemed to defeat the purpose of learning the material. Professor Oh has an accent that was hard to understand at times during his lectures.
Professor Oh is caring, but wasn't really efficient at lecturing for my class. I was pretty much using AI / Gemini the entire semester to just complete the 2 Python HW assignments every week. He's super accessible outside of class and offers extra credit. But overall, I didn't really learn that much from his class, but he's a great person.
his lectures are not helpful, half the time he doesn't know what is going on. he does not answer, i just started talking to his TA if i needed something. kind've an annoying amount of work outside of class considering its a required business class and not a major specific class.
