Chris is one of the best teachers I've ever had. His experience with the field makes the class engaging. He's funny and takes a serious topic and makes it light. There's only a midterm and final but they were incredibly easy. Just read the text and you'll do fine. Highly recommend him!
Soft spoken, and kind of goofy. He likes to emphasize the spiritual and is not a big fan of empiricism or the scientific method. Despite disagreeing with Chris on these points, I found him funny and informative. Overall, a good professor.
He's so adorable! And his class is fun and easy.
He was a great teacher, very helpful. He tries to get the class to interact during the lessons. He tells you which topics will be on the quizes as he lectures through them. A lot of the test material will also be based on the readings. I recommend him 100%
He is a very laid back guy, EASY A! So nice and gets to know all his students. There are 2 QUIZ and 1 group presentation! I would take him again!
Super laid back and easy. Nice, funny, entertaining. Good teacher, good class, would take classes with him again. Designs the class for students to succeed. Always looks baked but has never smoked weed in his life.
Dr. Allen is a wonderful professor. Work for this class was easy, but also fun. Quizzes do need to be studied for though as the material can be complex to understand. He comes from an interesting perspective in his field and brought a few guest speakers to class. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and hope to take another class from him in future.
Dr. Allen was always engaging and thoughtful. He always made the content relevant. It was really nice to have a professor who was also a clinician. I plan on taking other classes from him.
Dr Allen is a very thoughtful person. He is a clinician and has a lot of experience in the subject that he teaches. I loved his class and wish I would have found out about them sooner.
LOVED him as a teacher, honestly the best i've had at PSU. I would seriously recommend taking his classes!
Best ever. Highly recommend, love that guy.
Lectures are very interesting; I hated missing class because I didn't want to miss anything. Show up, do the work and enjoy the process, too. Excellent teacher and very funny!
Dr. Allen is always entertaining. He tries very hard to make concepts approachable. Work load isn't so bad and the assignments and tests aren't particularly difficult. He's a fantastic instructor and ranks among my favorites here.
Really awesome teacher, down to earth and really wants to make sure you learn. I didn't get the book, but am pretty sure I will get an A in the class.
Words can't express the fun I had in his class! Easy A, informative, interactive, fun, explicit, intellectually challenging, raw! Need more classes taught by Chris Allen at PSU! It was not about reading and teaching from the book, but from slides and his own experiences. Mid-term and a final, taken from his lectures and slides. Definitely worth it!
Love. Just loved. He is an awesome teacher and has great guest speakers. Thanks to him, my head didn't explode during finals. Super easy class, and he's one of those rare professors who treats his students like adults and allows them total freedom of choice over 1 "project" and 1 essay. Tests were easy, just study pp's.
Cancelled final just so he could give another lecture and gave full credit. Easiest class I've ever taken. Very funny guy, really nice, information is easy to understand and follow.
Took him on winter term... now taking him for a 9 to 2 pm, and a 3 to 6 pm class during the summer. All in one day. In other words, good enough to not drive me crazy! excellent teacher!
Chris was by far one of the easiest professors I have ever taken, as well as one of the most fun. He was very open-minded, engaging, and was helpful to students who wanted clarifications. His projects and papers are very easy and his exams are manageable if you look through the slideshows and take good notes in class. Taking him again next term!
Very good teacher.a wealth of knowledge in the field he teaches. fun to learn from and has interesting and interactive lectures.
Through my four years at PSU, Chris Allen was by far and away the greatest professor I ever had the pleasure of taking classes (three to be exact) with. An absolutely life-changing, deep, inspirational, profound, funny, brilliant and accessible lecturer, and as genuine, caring, engaging, personal and sensitive a person as they come.
He is an amazing professor. I took a couple classes from him. Not only are his classes easy, but you actually learn from him. He is very engaging, and funny. I recommend him to all psych majors I come across.
Chris will be the easiest teacher you've ever had. Exams are easy, straight from the ppt. Projects are easy as long as you made the effort.
Great teacher. Give you different options to earn your grade. Attendance is not mandatory but you wont need to skip a class because they are great and you learn a lot from him.
Prof Allen is amazing. His lectures are informative and engaging. He makes you love the subject. I never wanted to miss class. He is inclusive, funny, humble, and cute. I wish there were more professors at PSU like him. I highly recommend!
Chris is an amazing teacher. He's so comfortable with the subject which really helped promote the class' openness about the topic of human sexualities. Cancelled both the midterm and final (giving us all 100%) only so we could have a few more fun class discussions. Attendance not mandatory, however, you will not want to miss his lectures!
Chris is by far my FAVORITE professor in PSU. Class is so easy & he cracks jokes, which are cheesy but, He is a dork but makes the class really interesting and I learned alot. Assignments are basically non existent and the test are easy. He some times does group circle discussion which is fun. Do not buy the text book, he doesnt test from it
OMG!!! Chris Allen is AMAZING!!! If I could take him for other courses I would. Unfortunately I have taken both classes that he teaches already, but he is awesome and is really into students gaining information wo having to prove it by testing. He does give a midterm & final, but they're pretty easy so long as you look at the powerpoints he posts.
My favorite professor at PSU. Took him for personality and human sexuality. He is kind and his lectures are very interesting. My favorite part was the creative project :)
Took Human Sexuality from him. Great class. Has a way of making you feel comfortable talking about taboo subjects. 2 books that were supplemental reading, both were cheap. He cancelled the midterm and final to add more lectures which I think shows that he cares more about people learning than about wasting time on things that don't really matter.
Chris is great at involving the class and genuinely cares for the students well being and grade. Do not buy the text, he doesn't use it. He is honest, professional and interesting. His style is to the point and informative but also creative and easy to understand. There is no reason not to take one of his classes. Projects are fun!! :)
Chris is one of the best psych profs at PSU. His class was easy, but I learned a lot without all the busy work and exams. He is engaging in lectures, the couple of assignments were easy&fun. If you did it-you get an A. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you won't want to miss. Do yourself a favor-take any classes you can with him! Midterm & final only
Such a great professor. He loves his students, and taught us so much. Pay attention to the slides, and have fun with your creative response project & class presentation. I took him this term for human sexuality and personality, and he was great! Not too hard, and class was FUN!
Easily one of my favorite instructors thus far at PSU! Creates the best atmosphere imaginable in a classroom which results in some truly memorable lectures and discussions. If you're a bit conservative or modest be ready to step out of your comfort circle and come to class with an open mind. Participate more and you'll have a lot more fun I promise
Chris is kind and hilarious. The grading criteria was simple. There are two projects, a midterm, a final, online discussions, two pop quizzes, and an extra credit assignment (all of which are very easy as long as you review the lectures). Human sexuality was my favorite class this term! I would recommend Chris to any student.
I have taken two classes from this teacher personality and human sexuality. This is one of the best teachers I have had. His classes are pretty easy. You are graded on 2 pop quizzes which are easy, a midterm and final which can be easy and sometimes cancels 1, and 2 creative projects which are easy A's if you do something and show up on those days.
Professor Allen was great. He explains things very well and adds personal experience to explain in more detail. I will be taking his class again.
Professor Allen is a nice and interesting enough guy, and seems fairly knowledgable. However, he seems to really suffer from adjunct-itis. This was probably the least academically demanding class I have taken in four years of studies. Sure, it's an easy A, but he's not going to push you to really learn anything.
I took few classes with professor Chris, and he was my favorite teacher ever in four years at PSU. He made everyone feel super comfortable no matter who you are. He was able to approach and answer any difficult and easy questions with very clear explanation and knowledgeable. He was very funny and personable. i loved it. highly recommended!
Clear expectations, engaging, and entertaining lectures not lifted from textbook prepared slides. Easy to listen to, obviously cares about the education being provided. Does a good job of utilizing variety of teaching methods like lecture, group work, videos, and readings. Answers questions without attitude and seems to respect student input.
Professor Allen is one of the nicest professors I've had at PSU. He creates a very welcoming environment in class, has very clear and reasonable expectations, and genuinely is a sweet man. I wish I could take more classes from him <3
Chris is by far my favorite professor at PSU. He tells stories of real cases he has worked and always adds humor to his lectures, even if it is unintentional. You will have to have discussions with your classmates but they are usually in smaller groups. I would 100% recommend Chris Allen.
I know a good psychology professor when I see one, and he was definitely one of the best. Requiring attendance for his lectures is something you'll thank him for. Informative, funny, caring, and always there to help. He gives his students the chance to speak about their experiences and relate them to the material. Definitely taking again.
Chris is one of the best psychology professors at PSU. He's a reasonable grader and is invested in the success of his students. Organized, prepared, and uses class time wisely and is great at relating lecture topics to personal experiences to ease understanding. Examines are easy because materials are concise. Art project is due as filler, easy pts
Was one of my favorite teachers at PSU. As English as 2nd language student some of the work was hard to read and wasn't easiest class. Takes time to help and good insight on diversity of personality . Very devoted to student learning so you really have something to take away from the class.
Chris is funny and casual but serious when it comes to exams and assignments. He clearly says what'll be on the test and provides feedback when it's requested. He makes the lecture interesting and super fun. Chris is super chill and down-to-earth. Definitely show up to class, he's chill but you'll miss heavily-weighed attendance points.
I think Dr Allen is harder in the last few years. I had him a few years ago and this class was definitely more work. I see lots of rating saying he is easy but I think he is just clear. But there is a mid-term, final, paper, project, quizzes and lots of work to do. Not so easy in my view. Also you have to come to class as he grades on attendance.
This was a really good class I would recommend Mr Allen and the class was called psychopathology. It goes through all the mental disorders and was very helpful. The way he taught it actually taught some very helpful things about life which it's kind of awesome to go to a class and learn about life
He is awesome teacher. I think all students around me talking about how much they enjoy lectures. Some of it is busy work but most of it is good, he really wants students to learn and he is funny and lectures are worth attending. Makes personality theory relevant to life.
This was a very good class, chill and interesting professor. A fair amount of reading and videos but interesting to understand the mental disorders. Lectures are great. Creative project is fun. Tests very passable if you study the study guide and come to class.
Took personality, unusually interesting lectures, he is a broad thinker that relates class to life. People were like crying in there at times, for good reasons, he has some really profound ideas, not just general stuff like in a lot of classes. Grading is fair, medium difficulty class. I did his video research project, was cool to help with.
Professor Allen is incredible. Very understanding, accommodating, and funny. His lectures are interesting and he tells personal stories to make them more relatable. You can tell that he genuinely cares about his relationships with students. I always left this class in a good mood because of Chris's lightheartedness. Assignments are straightforward.
Chris is an interesting cat. His lectures are interwoven with his personal experience with clients, and some interactive moments with the class. He is good at answering questions, and encouraging feedback and input from the class. The class was very interesting, but could have been more content driven, and covered more than it did.
Chris has such a delightful presence, he models flawless acceptance and openness, he makes everyone feel valued and has a divine way of relating to students. He's funny, keeps class interesting, and you can tell he has a spiritual practice. Take him at least once!
Very clear how to pass this class. Most clear teacher I've had. If you do the work you will get an A. But there is a fair amount of work, tests, 1x a week paper, but he tells you exactly what is expected. Most knowledgeable teacher I've had, not a single student stumped him with a question if it was a reasonable question.
This class teaches things I will remember. Plenty of assignments but very fair. He is funny and he isn't teaching ideology like PSU teachers, teaches science of psychology. Only teacher I've had to say something positive about Christianity. Would love to take his class on Buddhism and Happiness taught in Tibet as Education Abroad, but expensive.
Like college is supposed to be. More of this kind of teacher please PSU. Prepared! Organized! Fair! Work yes. Short paper due every week and quizzes and tests. Lectures are interesting. Almost everybody came to class every time which is good sign. Grades on participation but you can miss classes. Textbook pretty good, and free.
This was basically a self help class. A lot of life lessons to learn and keep with you. We had some guest lecturers which were great. Dr. Allen was super informative and interesting to learn from. I would recommend anyone who wants to grow as an individual to take this class.
This was my third class I've taken with Chris and I wish he could teach every class in my degree. He truly is an angel and the kindest person. Understanding, funny, and truly cares about his students. Weekly writing assignments and discussions that are personal and reflective, quizzes, midterm/final. Very straightforward. You won't regret it at all
Dr. Allen is a nice instructor. He is accessible, caring, and shows an interest in the subject.
Take his happiness class. Amazing. Dr. Allen gives his all, he really makes this an interesting class and I remember what I learned. Guest speakers amazing. Class had such a good feel to it because he knows how to run a classroom (Zoom) and create a great atmosphere. Everybody would show up. I have to say, favorite class of all college.
Took his abnormal class. Wow. Now this is what college needs more of. So interesting. Each lecture well prepared. Assignments very clear. Can get a good grade if you do all the assignments and quizzes. People show up for this class. I wish it had been twice a week but I guess during COVID students want once a week. But a definite yes on this class!
Chris is a kind, earnest professor and human being. Lectures were engaging and we had a few phenomenal guest speakers! He clearly cares about making content relatable and helping students reach their goals. Accessible outside of class and offers different perspectives on psychology that can be appreciated by any with an open mind.
I really enjoyed his class. Lots of interesting ideas and topics for discussion and he offers some very unique perspectives on the topic as well. Not a very harsh grader at all. You do have discussion entries but they were more about expressing your own ideas rather than an actual assignment
I took two of his classes. At first I was confused about what had to get done every week. But its simple he does discussion, an assignment on the weeks lecture, and two short quizzes. You really have to try hard to FAIL his classes. Such a good teacher and if you ever need extra time to turn in stuff he lets you if you communicate with him.
This was a great teacher and great class. Took it on Zoom and it wasn't bad at all. I also had him at PCC where he teaches and it is hard to get in his classes as people have caught on he is really a great teacher. Try to take a class from him I don't think you'll regret it. He is interesting!
The psychology of happiness class was the most helpful class to my well-being and mood that I've ever taken. Dr. Allen only teaches this once a year and his wife helps him as she is a Tibetan Buddhist wellness teacher, and it is simply amazing. They bring great guest speakers and I think I learned something helpful every lecture. Awesome.
This professor was one of the best psychology professors I've had. I took both psy 432 and 434 with him and got A's in both. I loved his lectures and he made the content easy to understand!!
I love Professor Allen! I've taken two classes with him so far. His classes are so engaging, and I've learned so much. I enjoy the 4x4 assignment he requires because it helps with learning the material while also applying concepts to your own life. His lectures are informative and the way he presents them helps with retention. Best Psych professor!
Easily one of the best instructors at PSU. Wonderful personality, educated, and very accessible. Highly recommend. He issues a couple of assignments every week that are fairly easy (yet helpful to the reinforce the material), a midterm, and a final (definitely study for the midterm and final). He provides useful study guides.
Dr. Allen is very caring and thoughtful. His grading rubric is clear and concise. You will have to read book and article content and watch videos, but it's manageable if you spread it over your week. Weekly quizzes (short), discussions, and and journaling are part of the homework. 100% I would take him again if I could.
Easiest class. No papers. Very flexible. Willing to give deadline extensions. Funny personality. There are weekly readings but I barley did any of them and earned a high grade. Weekly quiz's that you get 2 tries on. Plenty of time to take tests. Easy midterms and final.
I absolutely loved this instructor and class. Very laid back. Textbook is free, 1 quiz/week, midterm & final exams (he gives a study guide, will need to @least semi-know the material, won't be able to just Google it. A couple assignments but pretty easy. He gave me a newfound interest in psychology. Looking forward to taking more classes w him.
Chris's lecture's weren't mandatory, but I absolutely wholeheartedly recommend attending and actually listening to what he has to say. One time I felt so seen by his description of body dysmorphia that I saved that recording and share it with my friends. I cried tears of joys during his lectures. Take his class, just do the assignments for an A/B.
I have repeatedly taken this profs class bc of how amazing he is. He's very culturally aware and open to people sharing. Lecture not mandatory, but recorded - I recommend for great conversations. He is very respectful of accommodations and peacefully eases tension in class when there is confusion or disagreements. I feel very connected to my class
He's a amazing professor and person in general
Christopher Allen has become my favorite professor at PSU. His lectures are short, yet so informative, calming and gentle. He gives multiple tries on quizzes with no time limit and prepares you with a study guide, that you fill out every week, that you can use during both exams. I would take all of his classes if I had the choice. 100% recommend!!!
Dr. Allen is easily one of the best professors at PSU. The other glowing ratings have said it already: he's kind, calm, caring, and well-organized. My only mild qualm is that he has a tendency to cut students off mid-sentence after a couple seconds. I could tell me & other students felt kinda shut down/embarrassed after speaking.
Dr. Allen's reviews speak for themselves, and he represents them perfectly! Incredibly caring, knowledgable, and down to earth professor who taught me so much within my first term at PSU. Incredibly inclusive, and I will be taking another course from him for Winter term! Highly recommend!!!
This professor is one of the best professors in the entirety of PSU. His courses are interesting and are the easiest courses you will ever take. Did maybe 2 hours at most per week on the weekly course work. His exams, quizzes, and assignments are all online and open note. You will love this course!
Professor Allen's, online course was well-organized with weekly lectures, discussions, and quizzes that were easy to follow. The workload, including the reading, was manageable for a college-level course. The clear structure and explanations made it easier to stay on track.
Dr. Allen's lectures are engaging and honest. He accepts input and feedback from students, and will truly listen. Self disclosures about his life help relate to the material. Info is mostly current but some material felt outdated. 1 paper, weekly short discussions & reflections. Personal feedback on paper, TA grades other hw. Grades pretty promptly
In my many years of attending multiple colleges as a transfer student, I have to say Chris Allen is one of my favorite professors and had a fantastic and caring attitude. The lectures and readings were engaging and interesting, and the quizzes and assignments were not challenging, so long as you keep up with the readings. Hope to have him again!
He was very helpful for disability issues, caring. The lectures are shorter and to the point which I really liked. There is a fair amount of reading and a "collaborative study guide" which we all fill out together. Not that many people worked on it but it was really helpful when it came exam time.
If you can get into Dr. Allen's Happiness class-DO IT! There's a group project (but it's fun/not too serious), weekly mindfulness exercises, discussion posts, quizzes (easy, open book), reading The Art of Happiness (not a txtbk) throughout the term, + optional articles if you want to learn more. All of his classes are great, but this one was my fav
Cool class, a bit awkward but charming. One thing I will say (an idea which he poked fun at in class) is that he talks about sex a lot. Of course, theres a week about attraction + sex in the curriculum, but every single class it was a we discussed it which is fine, it just annoyed me personally. If these arent things you relate to, it drags on fs
Very interesting classes. I liked the examples he gives and stories of relationships. I think that is a big part of happiness. Also very interesting class honestly maybe my favorite. Group projects are fun.
One of the "least annoying" of university professors. He has a way of talking that is like, just normal. Not fancy lecture talk, just talking as a human being in an interesting way. Grateful I had this class before graduating. Very interesting topic.
I really liked this course. The topic was very interesting and Dr Allen knows alot not just from Western Perspectives but Eastern like Buddhist as well. Only thing I wish was class was a little longer as I really enjoyed it, one of my favorite teachers for sure.
Lovely lectures.
Amazing professor! He does a lot of quizzes, but most of the time they are about 2-5 questions and they were so easy. He always gives a second chance and great feedback. He doesn't make you read or watch anything too long for the most part which I really appreciate. Would definitely take his class again.
Dr. Allen was an amazing professor. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students. Lectures were the perfect length to keep you engaged, and quizzes were straightforward. Would definitely recommend him as a professor and hope to take another one of his classes.
