He's ok but puts a lot of his own doctrine into the class and doesn't really open it up for the class to discuss. I wouldn't take him again.
Brother Alison was a fantastic teacher. He really helps in applying the Book of Mormon to your own life.
I learned a lot in his book of mormon class. he made it interesting, and his outlook on the class was good. i really enjoyed it.
Great teacher, knows his stuff. I learned a lot from his class. The only thing I didn't like was that he used powerpoint everyday for everything. Very nice guy though and would definitely take another class from him.
Great teacher, is very thoughtful and puts a lot of effort into his classes, you can tell he loves what he does.
he was amazing! i have taken a few casss from him because of how much i learned- he drives you to want to make changes in your life and brings the spirit into the class very strongly. my roommates loved him as well- TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM!
Loved the Class. Took it during a block and didn't have any problems with the homework.
He's one of my fav. religion teachers. I took him 2 years ago and I've taken him for every religion class since then.
Good teacher. Interesting. I like that he puts powerpoints online so you can refer to them later. Very strict about attendence. Got perfect score on every test but A- in class caz I missed 4 times. But makes tests easy for this class. Went over answers in class and made sure you knew it was impt.
Bro. Allison is amazing! He teaches so well, and makes many comments that make you think. He shares his opinion on some things, and it fascinates me...there are tests, but he gives you answers in class. Super easy, but you learn so much!!!...he is great! Take him!!!
INCREDIBLE TEACHER!!! I would highly recommend this teacher for any class that he teaches. Workload is appropriate for class and it is always enjoyable to attend class.
Brother Allison is a really good teacher. He teaches with the same style as Elder Bednar did. We read talks from each member of the twelve and the First Presidency. It helped my testimony a lot.
he is great so nice but pretty strick about late work (does not accept it at all) he has a great teaching style and can make any subject friendly
BEST EVER
He is a wonderful teacher. He makes you think, but at the same time doesn't burden you with homework. We had to do two 5 page papers, and talking in class was 5% of your grade.
He is an awesome teacher! He is easy and he knows his stuff. He doesn't leave much room for discussion, but he is always making sure you understand, and feel good about what he is teaching! Take from Bro.Allison!

Wonderful teacher and has a quote to back up every comment! after taking other rel teachers i would never take another class without having him as a teacher.
Took him for 2 classes. Easy tests, interesting lectures. Strict about late work, but will accept it if you have a legit excuse, but don't try to b.s. one, he is pretty good about knowing what's true or not. Has you do projects that really do help strenghten testimony. Easy A if you just attend class and do homework
Best religion teacher this school has. Out of class work is easy, learned something new and interesting almost every class and is an all around great teacher.
Bro Allison is awesome! He really inspires you to want to apply the doctrines to your own life and become a better person!
Love his class, phenomenal teacher! Is really good about clearly teaching the doctrines and principles. Attendance is mandatory, and there is no late work accepted whatsoever. GREAT teacher though, makes the class a ton of fun and I would take another class from him in a heartbeat.
I absolutely love Bro. Allison! I have taken two classes with him and will be taking another one come fall. He is so inspiring and teaches clearly and makes you want to follow the teachings of the gospel. He truly cares about every student and really wants them to succeed! Teachings of the Living Prophets was my favorite of his classes!
Brother Allison knows his stuff. He is a wonderful teacher and you would be a fool to miss out. He backs everything up with quotes and shows them to you on a powerpoint (which is VERY helpful) in my oppinion. He's a good example and inspires correct learning principles. Highly recommended. Don't miss out! He's the best!

Great teacher! Fun, very spiritual. I've had a couple classes from him. Look for his M &Ms power point presentation! (or just ask him to show it)
smart awsome guy, have nothing against him, but didnt like all the busi work, youll do 4 doctrine reports and journal entries for each class.,,, but you will learn a ton about the gosple
Very enthuasitic about subject. Felt that he used too much personal experience and not enough of the text.
Bro. Allison is awesome! Definitely take him. I would take him again. His class is easy, fun and you learn a lot. He loves Marie Calendar's Pies.
Great teacher! Homework is very doable and enjoyable if done with the desire to learn and the spirit.
Awesome teacher and very spiritual. Loves discussion and very good at answering questions.
Bro. Allison was pretty easy but there was a lot of reading and some busy work. You can get an A if you just go to class and read and take notes because you can use your notes on the tests. His class though was pretty boring but maybe it was just because it was early morning:)
he is awesome
Bro. Allison is my favorite religion teacher and by far the best. I enjoyed his classes. I wish I could take him for the rest of my religion classes.
Brother Allison is way cool. He shares lots of quotes from General Authorities, and the Spirit is always strong in class. The only thing that kind of bothers me is that he sometimes teaches just for the tests. He is easy though. You have reading and short journals for every day, but it's way worth it.
Easiest class I had this semester. Amazing teacher who just cares that you understand the BOM and that your questions about the reading are answered. Easy homework that is fast and he gives you majority of the test questions and answers because he didn't cover them. He will never test you on something that he hasn't talked about.
Brother Allison is honestly the best religion teacher I have had. He always had interesting and inspiring lectures and taught with the spirit in every class.
Brother Allison is the best religion teacher I've had at BYUI. Attendance is mandatory, some notes necessary, and there's a project due at the end of the semester. The class is easy and he makes the D&C really powerful. Highly recommended.
Brother Allison is great. There were weekly tests online and two or three page readings for each class, but everything was very manageable. He really brings the spirit to each class and cares a lot about his students.
By far my favorite teacher after 4 semesters of school. Just journal and a total of 4 tests. If you don't miss more than one class you receive an automatic 100% on your final. He knows his stuff and just cares that you learn the BOM. Love him!
Bro. Allison is so amazing. I wish he taught all of the religion classes. He's really nice and knows so much about the Book of Mormon. Definitely my favorite teacher this semester.
I Loved Brother Allison! At first I thought he was too strict, but I came to love his policy on writing in the first person and his doctrinal reports. He really knows his stuff and has a lot of experiences to share! Take this class and you will become a better person and get to know the Book of Mormon very well! Loved it!!
Brother Allison is one of my favourite teachers. He is a really neat and humble guy. I've learnt so much about the Book of Mormon and all of the work he assigns really helps in understanding it more. I loved him!
Chris is an amazing teacher. He answers any question that any student has, very clearly. His class is really discussion based, but he guides the discussion very elegantly. I've learned more from Brother Allison than any other teacher in all my life. Definitely recommended.
I took Bro Allison online for Teachings of the Living Prophets. Super easy class, just make sure you stay on top of the work load, dont just save it all till the last minute. Easy EASY A as long as you do the work through out the week.
Brother Allison is a great teacher. He invited the Spirit each time class met. He was quick to provide feedback to students if asked and he was very fair in regard to grading. There was a significant amount of homework and reading assignments but were manageable if you made time. Take him for Lecture or Hybrid.
Very cool and spiritual teacher. Easy on the eyes as well especially for an older guy.
Bro Allison is a great teacher. His hybrid classes are amazing, you come to class once a week. All assignments are online. The assignments are easy. homework is due every week. once before class, and before midnight on sunday. I HIGHY RECOMMEND HIS CLASS i am even taking rel122 from him. Class is mainly just class discussions, but it is mandatory.
Bro. Allison is an amazing religion teacher! I love his hybrid class; you only have to come once a week and all the homework is done online. It's pretty easy, too. Attendance is mandatory, and as long as you don't miss a single class all semester you don't have to take the final.
He is very nice and enthusiastic. He doesn't require any essays. If you miss one or less days of class, you don't have to take the final.
Great teacher. just do the required work and atttend. If you miss only 1 class then you dont have to take the final which is liek 5 % of your grade. just do quizes. i took his hybrid class. It was amazing.
So much extra reading is required to do well on the quizzes. I would study for hours and still not know the answers. The quiz is taken before the material is covered in class. It is not the easiest class. He is a very nice guy and knows his stuff. I do like that you get automatic credit for the final if you miss less than 2 days of class.
LOVED bro allison. Had him first semester and took BOM 122 from him as well. Always so spiritual and positive, I really learned a lot from him and really respect him! Test online can be kind of hard if you're not so familiar with the BOM but with hard work, you will be able to get an A
Bro Allison is a spiritual guy and has had a lot of great experiences that he shares. I'm not a big fan of the online quizzes, and there is a lot of busy work, but overall the actual class is good. I personally wouldn't recommend the hybrid religion course, but really good teacher overall.
I loved this guy! I have taken lots of religion classes here at BYU-I and he has been my favorite. He worked for the church helping them make seminary videos. Some of his stories are just so spiritual. You ask him a question and he will show you a quote by a prophet to answer your question. He is a great teacher and I loved going to his class.
I loved this class. I took this class as a hybrid. 100% Attendance = !00% on the final. We only attended class once a week and had some (not a lot) of online work. My testimony has grown tremendously from this class. He's easy to talk to and our class discussions are so spiritual he's a great man.
Overall a nice guy. Course was easy enough, especially if you regularly attended. My issue is that he thinks he knows everything, yet he's seen so little of the world. Heaven forbid you ask a controversial question about the material. And IMHO, he paid way too much attention to the guys.
Brother Allison was an alright teacher. The class he runs is pretty easy, being a religion class, and he doesn't make you memorize the Family Proclamation for Family Foundations class which is nice. However, he's really puritanical in his views, and frankly, I don't feel like I can express my real opinion during class discussion.
Brother Allison is very considerate of students needs and perspectives. He does not assign unnecessary homework. Most classwork is focused on in-class discussion.
He's a good guy but I feel like his class is harder then my Advanced Spanish Literature Class!
I took Family Foundations as a hybrid class and it was amazing! We met just once a week and did the other work online. It was a PERFECT balance of online and in-class work, and Brother Allison is such as tender-hearted and wonderful teacher.
I respect this professor more than all of my other professors. Very clear, helpful, and intelligent. I'm looking for other courses he might teach next semester.
I did a hybrid class, and Brother Allison is a very good professor who does his best to stay on topic, and gives very good lectures. Independent study is very important though, as he didn't have time to cover everything on tests. Attendance is a must, but there's a reward for those who get 100% attendance.
TAKE BROTHER ALLISON'S CLASS! He is amazing, listen when I say you will not regret taking this class. I had him for teachings of the B.O.M and I loved it. The Spirit is so strong and you learn so much about the Gospel. I left in awe every class. Very helpful teacher, he's a Stake Pres and if you spend the 2hrs preparing for class you will get an A.
Bro. Allison teaches his classes in a way that shows that he really cares about the doctrine and the students. He has heart. He says things like they are. He is a great teacher, and I recommend him to anyone, taking any class from him.
Good teacher, but didn't learn anything about subject. There were weird questions and quizzes. The criteria online was not appropriate in some ways. I had to watch a video about a woman that had been raped for homework. Nice man, but wasn't too happy with that along with other things. Put in three-credit hours worth of work for a two-credit class.
Bro. Allison is great! I can honestly say I have never learned more from a religion professor before. I felt so enlightened after every class. he was very funny and captivating as well. gives a lot of busy work, but if you keep up with it it's not bad. if you miss one class or less you don't have to take the final.
Brother Allison is one of my favorite religion teachers up here. I took him for Family Foundations which is now the Eternal Family class and I love it! He is the best teacher to take for any religion class, he knows his stuff and if you do the assignments and show up to class you'll get the A!
His lectures are very engaging and you want to learn. He also allows you to use technology in class but is very strict if you use it for social media in class. Every week you just need to submit two questions day before each class and then write a summary of what stuck out in class. If you only miss one class, automatic 100 on final. Easy tests!
Requires a little too much writing for the bi-weekly prepare reading and papers considering its only a 2 credit class.
Brother Allison taught doctrine very clearly and didn't require any hard assignments. Just weekly reading that you have to submit 5 annotations for. post class work includes a 3-5 question quiz, which is very easy if you showed up to class. there is one capstone project, which is common in all religion courses, grades on completion and effort.
He made class interesting, and it was something I looked forward to attending. There were only a few papers, but they're a lot more difficult if you put them off until the last minute. Workload was consistent, and I learned more than I originally thought I would. He genuinely cares about each of his students.
Has unrealistic expectations and policies, does not accept late work or absences, period. To top it all off if you even email him about late work he drops you a full letter grade.
He is VERY strict on attendance, basically unless you're in the hospital you need to be there. First offense isn't too bad, but more than that and you're grade will really suffer. Also does not accept late work, definetely stay on top of your work. Grades pretty easy. Midterm and final was just a study skills check, really easy.
spend as much time on this 2 credit class as I do in my 4 credit organic chemistry class(chem 351). Also your grade goes south fast if you miss more than four times (I've missed once) If you use electronics (I haven't) during class get docked a letter grade and the person who turns you in gets extra credit. Oh and don't forget the 2 3000 word paper
I had Brother Allison for a block class this semester. 7:45 in the morning! But needless to say, it was worth it! The class was amazing! There's great truths taught! Be ready to read, but there's no final exam. There are a lot of reading talks, but they are very pertinent to class. Show up, do your assignments, and you will pass!
DOES NOT accept late work. If you email asking for an exception on that rule, he will dock you a full letter grade. Major points off for absence. You lose points for misusing tech in class, and your classmates get extra credit for reporting you. Despite all that, I would definitely take a course from him again.
A funny teacher with deep classes. Overall really great. The final is just a check off of study skill. Doesn't require you to do all the reading and there are not quizzes if you didn't, just make sure to comment on the online reading. His syllabus seems strict (no late work and don't text in class) but he's a great teacher.
I took BoM from him but my class was a hybrid, one block class which made it extremely time consuming. But other than that, he is a great teacher. He is very strict about turning in assignments on time. He does not accept late work. Which I think is good, c'mon we're in college, we need to be responsible.
His attendance and late work policies are incredibly strict. They defiantly seem to take away from the quality of his class. Instead of focusing on learning, I struggled to stay on task because if we did anything out of line the deduction is almost always the dropping of a letter grade. I would never suggest this professor to a fellow student.
I loved Brother Allison! I took REL275 from him and he knew a TON about the subject. I loved how he broke up the class differently than just reading out of the BoM. As long as you do your homework with some effort and show up to class, you will be okay. :)
As with most religion courses it is wonderful and insightful. However, Brother Allison will sometimes ask guess what's in my head questions. Questions like. "What just happened in what we read."
I loved the actual class Brother Allison gave. I learned so much about the Book of Mormon and the gospel. I definitively feel like my testimony was strengthened and he was really funny! He gives a LOT of reading and work and I struggled with that. It was difficult work if you don't have a lot of prior knowledge of the Book of Mormon.
His lectures are amazing! Mind Blown. Every day! On the down side there is too much writing between classes in my opinion. Before and after every class, easy but tedious.
Bro Allison is knowledgeable about gospel topics. His class was set up as a hybrid, so we only met in class once per week. If we missed 2 classes, we automatically went down a full letter grade. If you don't go to class, you won't pass. The homework is easy and interactive.
He's really inspired and a great teacher. Each class starts with him answering student questions. The class material s the scriptures so the homework isn't that hard.
Brother Allison was an amazing professor. He really knows his stuff and gives amazing lectures. He prepares you for any quizzes. If you have 100% attendance by the end of the semester, you will get an automatic A on the final.
I really loved the Eternal Family class. Bro. Allison teaches and testifies from the Proclamation, Prophets and Apostles and the scriptures. I left the class wanting my marriage and family to be exactly what I learned about. He is a great teacher! His attendance policy is strict. If you come to class, you will love this course!
I just didn't like him. felt like his teaching didn't bring anything new from all the reading. lots of weird assignments. just trying to please the grader instead of writing for me. I did all the reading in class because I got more out of it. Just not a fan of the structure.
This is the second religion class I've taken from Bro Allison and I love him as a teacher! He does NOT accept late work, unless you have a school excused absence. He always makes class very interesting and he ALWAYS asks us as students very thought provoking questions! Probably my favorite person in the religion department!
Great teacher very motivational. Really helps you to want to do better. Lot of homework though.
Prof. Allison is a nice guy. He was my first class every monday and he always came in with great energy and topics, so I've got to give it to him. The only thing that is something to look out for is that he is very heavy on homework. The most I've seen compared to any other religion class I have seen here.
Amazing teacher, but the class is SO heavy on homework- the most I've ever had for any religion class. Tons of reading, Tons of work to hand in. Although class is only 1x a week, so that's nice. Bro Allison is the real deal, he really knows his stuff. if you don't mind the work, take him because the spiritual aspect is *chefs kiss* amazing
Solid guy, very knowledgeable, but can be a tiny condescending at times. I am in no way saying he is not worth taking the class, I learned at least one thing the whole time. My gripe is the case studies, every other week is a case study over the principle just taught. Some people learn that way, but not me, it's the worse. Lots of papers. Easy tho
The best way to describe Brother Allison is that he is one of those judgmental Bishops that get people with weak testimonies out of the church. It was literally a Doctrine and Covenants class, but he felt the need to bring up controversial topics every class period. Most of his lectures were based on Mormon Doctrine and misinterpreted talks.
I took his Eternal Family class and felt I learned nothing on eternal families at all. He spent his entire lectures telling us that his generation was so much better than our generation, showing us videos from Fox news, and showing us videos on youtube that, in my opinion, were very sexist (for example "it's not about the nail"). You can do better.
Brother Allison is a nice guy and knowledgeable about his class. I would not take him again mainly because he has rules that I find a bit ridiculous like having to mark your attendance twice one in class and over Canvas after class. He will also mark you down a full letter grade if you ask certain questions over email. He also gets off topic a lot.
He is a power hungry and self righteous. He makes you feel unknowledgeable and is very condescending. There were times in class when I would make a comment and he would be very dismissive towards me. He made me feel like my opinion and testimony was wrong. I hope Brother Allison reads this and knows he weakened my testimony. Avoid taking from him
The class is pretty simple, you show up. Brother Allison does have a strict phone policy, this policy involves snitching. If you want a class where the teacher doesn't care this isn't the one. He tells fun stories to keep you engaged but when it comes to assignments throw your opinions out the window. Always write what he wants to hear, for an A.
Professor Allison was a good religion teacher. He assigns a lot of papers but most of them you won't talk about in class. He has really good lessons and tries to include comments and questions from everyone. Sometimes information he announces is confusing but is very forgiving and can be contacted easily.
I didn't stay to find out how bad it was going to get. The phone policy is to much. He is using the grades as an incentive to get your classmates to snitch. Also has no tolerance for classes missed. He muttered a lot of inappropriate and condescending things when people would get up to leave. This was all just on day one.
I took his Eternal Families course. He gives a lot of homework. He has a very black and white view of the gospel which was hard for me. Seemed self-righteous, tell a lot of stories about how he is not like 'most' members. I have nothing against him as a person, he seemed very genuine and you can tell he loves teaching the class.
I thought he was a good teacher. He makes class interesting and tells awesome stories. He is really willing to help you out if you reach out.
Chris taught beside Elder Bednar for a time here at BYUI. Insightful is how I would describe him. I loved every minute of his class. There is quite a lot of reading in his Eternal family class but it's SO WORTH IT. He literally engineered this course after being asked by the Church to do so. He teaches by the Spirit and invites us to act.
Brother Allison is awesome and this class was so good!
Brother Allison is really nice, and a really good religion professor. Warning though, he is very bold in his statements and is not afraid to say the "not so politically correct" things... Maybe if you're part of the LGBTQ+ community, get it from someone else...
Overall this was a very frustrating class to take with Brother Allison teaching. It felt like we rarely ever stayed on topic and there were so many tests due every few weeks, and 2 papers due throughout the semesters which no one else in the same topic had to do. He's nice and funny as a person, but as a teacher, I would recommend someone else.
Brother Allison is really a great person. But it is not the same as a teacher. He never says this, but he acts like he is so much better than everyone else. He gives tons of homework and doesn't accept late work. I did good in the class but I would have learned so much more from someone else. I did not feel the Spirit. This guy sucks
He has you ask questions even if you don't have any it's a big part of the grade. He also has you surmise what you learned in class with 200 words which is also a big part of the grade. The test/quizzes are geography and he doesn't go over them in class.
He was my least favorite religion teacher I have ever had. He was very closed off and didn't seem caring at all. If I turned an assignment in 5 minutes after 12, 10 points were deducted. He is getting a surgery at the end of the semester and is requiring us all to turn our work in early and be flexible, yet he was 0% flexible.
He is a pretty good teacher. As someone who struggles to understand the gospel, he made it very easy for me to understand and I was able to learn a ton. SOmething I did not like was that he did not care about the excuses or emergencies if you couldn't come to class because he will not excuse you.
Good guy, he is very knowledgeable. I learned some things I didn't know before. Attendance is big though so don't pick too early of a class for him. Lots of reading but that's usually expected of religion. Has ways to make up missed classes! Soooo helpful there.
He is more concerned with attendance than students learning or increasing their testimonials.
This guy is something else. I have had 3x the amount of work for him than any other class. Before and after class writings every day. Exams every 3 weeks. Two 1000 word min essays. And a shload of other readings that just overwhelm my schedule, all from a class that I have no say in taking. Steer clear. I miss Hank Smith.
One of the best professors at this school. Unlike other religion teachers he does not sugar coat things. He actually teaches straight doctrine and is not afraid to dive into deep doctrine. He backs up church doctrine with quotes from church leaders. He stood up to science department when professors were teaching false doctrine.
Brother Allison was a good teacher. He is very knowledgeable in the gospel and gave very interesting lectures, but truth be told he didn't seem all that interested in his students. Aside from two essays, he doesn't give lots of homework. There wasn't anything I particularly disliked about him but there also wasn't anything that made him stand out.
An absolutely awful teacher. Do not take any of his classes for religion. He gives 3x the home work then other classes and seems to actually try to be an asshole in his grading. I'm not a member and he can't get that through his head that I don't know anything.. If you want to take this class that is totally fine but do not take this professor!
Talking to a friend I decided to write a review too. During our classes this semester I have been engaged and asking questions but Chris Allison thinks he's better then everyone and shits on your testimony and outright tells you that your testimony is wrong. If you take this class you will not feel the spirit and conform to what he wants.
Lots and lots of homework and reading. Also took forever to grade assignments was a couple weeks behind and then was a strict grader and deducted points for the littlest mistakes. I do NOT recommend if you are looking for an easy religion class.
Chris Allison is a sad image on thr name of Brigham Young University. I am dumbfounded on how he is even allowed to teach at this wonderful university. He blatantly teaches false doctrine and teaches a religion class?! This is completely unacceptable and if you are wanting to ever feel the spirit or learn the gospel he is not the one.
The class of 9am this semester all agrees that Chris Allison is an unfortunate exception to teach at this wonderful school. He is so blatantly disregarding what this church really means and teaching in the view of his own interest. He will get in your face and try to bring you down. If you are looking for a spiritual class this one is not it.
Took his Mighty Reformers class and really enjoyed it. He is definitely passionate about this subject in particular and his knowledge and enthusiasm for it reflected that. I would absolutely take a 390 class from him again.
There's a lot more work than one would expect from a religion class. If you're passionate, then it's great. But I'm a computer science major and this class was the hardest that semester. Dropped before the week was over.
If you're taking this class just to get it over with, choose an easier one and leave room for those who want to learn. I started that class as an RM and thought "I probably won't learn anything new," but I was so wrong. I have learned something not only new but something that I know will bless my life forever. The homework is about two hours total.
He's very strict and if you have something going on in your personal life he doesnt make exceptions for it. He only cares about attendance, turning in homework and his lecture. sometimes I feel he doesnt respect students. He has a lot of good stuff that he teaches. If you have a harder major I dont recommend this class. ngl couldnt feel the spirit.
Brother Allison was a good teacher overall. He was super funny and engaging. Attendance is mandatory to pass the class and there is homework everyday but it took me maybe 10 mins. There are also quizzes and 2 papers but he gives us the quiz answers in class. Just show up and you'll be fine. Would recommend
Brother Allison has been one of my favorite professors this semester. If you stay on top of the reading, pay attention during lectures, and do your work, you will pass. I felt the Spirit many days, sometimes I didnt. He always has lots of energy and does a good job of teaching in a way so its easier to take notes.
Prof. Allison has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, you'll learn a lot. Textbook isn't required, but attend class, use tools like Unstuckstudy, and you'll do well. Workload is heavy, but worth it for the deep doctrine.
Brother Allison is a great, both as a man and as a teacher. His lectures are profound and interesting, I actually love listening and taking notes. All the negative reviews on here are bs, he is extremely caring and will work with you. The homework is extremely easy and will help you spiritually.
Out of every religion class I've taken at BYUI, he has given the most homework. Also gives tests that are not super relevant to what we are learning in class, they aren't that difficult, but the tests are just on random facts and geography from the scriptures. Class every day just consists of him lecturing for an hour. Not that hard just not great.
I loved his insight on everything! He is very knowledgable but respectful as well of others maybe not knowing as much. He builds up your testimony for sure. One of my favorite religion teachers
This felt like "The Gospel According to Brother Allison" rather than Foundations of the Restoration. Deep doctrine supported by one-off quotes from General Authorities and some level of conjecture was a staple of the class. It could benefit from more Christ-centered teaching. This class is why I will no longer be taking religion classes at BYUI.
Super great professor. I took his REL225 class and learned a lot more than I thought I would have. Take him if you want a caring professor who has wisdom to teach.
Loved taking his REL225 class. He's super caring and is full of wisdom. I learned a lot more than I expected to!
His class was relatively hard for a religion class. He makes you come up with 2 questions before every class, then spend the entire class answering students questions they submitted, which led to boring lectures. Also had several tests and quizzes on random things like the geography of the New Testament. Also had a final that was like 75 questions.
We weren't really in the Book of Mormon which is saying A LOT because it's a Book of Mormon class. He is very lecture-heavy, tends to deep dive and I MEAN DEEP DIVE into the gospel. He doesn't talk about the BOM. I would not suggest taking this professor if you are a newer member, wanting to learn about the BOM, or don't know much about the gospel.
For me, I really liked this class. We worked and studied maybe 4-5 times in the Book of Mormon and most of the assignments are studying yourself and preparing yourself before class, a lot of preparation, but if you're serious about that then you can be very prepared. He has extra credit by doing another hour of class in a different class.
In the lectures, Brother Allison is great. However, he assigns A LOT homework. Weekly reading, question assignments, Ponder assignments, Study skills assignments, and the Capstone project, which has assignments periodically during the semester. I'm not even sure he actually reads the assignments I turn in. Even my roommates think it is excessive.
A decent amount of homework, but great guy and class!
Great at teaching gospel doctrine and introducing new perspectives of popular topics. The required reading was a bit ridiculous (Generally 12-33 pages of scripture reading weekly, 8.5"x11" sized sheets in a pdf) combined with lengthy homework assignments every week. Other than that, I loved his lectures and learned a lot.
