He drones on, class goes whole time, notes don't pertain to tests
Does a good job in my opinion
bad teacher
No Comments
Not a very charismatic professor, but he was short and to the point, easy tests.
Boring but not to bad. go to class and you will do fine. Easy/short tests
He is very helpful and his books are interesting
So boring, but easy class. ALl you do is take notes, if you dont like to sit and listen take another prof.
Nice speech, kinda interesting, not that hard tests, just go to class and you'll be fine. I would take him again.
Boring as all hell. Stupid subject in general but the class was okay in terms of grades...
Great teacher.....if you don't come to class....you will hate his tests
He is a good guy. Class can be boring but if you go the tests won't be too hard.
nice guy, doesnt really like to talk out of class, very boring lecture, asks every single person in class for an example and calls everyone M'am and Sir, only gives like 5 assignments but he grades hard and is werid about it
what a ****
if you go to class and are not an idiot you will do wonderfully on the exams. i took microeconomics because i had to, but i took macro just to take another class from him. he teaches econ as theories, and not a bunch of math. wonderful teacher.
He is jumpy and jittery and very unclear. I would definately recommend taking this class with another professor.
Very boring guy!!! All he does is walk around class and does hand motions. Easy class but a hard grader. It's almost like an English class, how he grades your writing techniques.
Dr. Bailey's class is very interesting because he gives a lot of real-life examples. Exams are easy if you study for them. Overall very cool guy, wears a different hawaiian shirt everyday. tests composed of lecture and book material.
ECON sucks but Bailey is a cool guy, plus he grades on a curve and that's really never a bad thing
The lectures get boring, and he seems to have some wierd nervous ticks, but as long as you go to class and take notes you will be alright.
Good guy, sometimes is a little confusing, but just go to class and it wont be that bad. The curve is great!
Grades homework like an english prof. Boring class to sit through. Overall would not recommend taking this guy if you want a passing grade. And what is up with the wacked out shirts he wears over and over
****...Teaches like everyone in the class has a Phd in Economics. Most boring soul on this planet...his shirts suck...and I would sometimes rather stab myself in the eye with a pen than go to his class. To sum things up...avoid this guy!
Let's play 21 questions. 21 ESSAY questions, cuz that's what his tests are. He grades on a serious curve though. Aside from that he means well & is kind of comical at times. You'll learn a lot if you go to this class, like I did, but he's still a *****.
Hard homework and tests. Curves are currently the only thing keeping me at a passing grade.
i got a b but with like a 73 percent. everyone was doing shatty but he curves. tests are impossible and when he grades homework he actually reads it and it was tough to get a 6 or 7 out of ten. recomend another teacher, because i hate relying on a curve for a grade.
The lectures are really boring sometimes, and he calls on everyone in the class. The homework and the tests can be hard, but go to class and take notes and you will do well.
If you hate Econ, Take it with him, becuase you will pass. Soo He is HARD, but I rated him easy, because I passed. I mean, I failed every exam(under 50%), and did horrible on the homework, and I passed with a C :)I would recomend him over some other econ professors, some are pretty bad! He's funny!
I really hate this guy's tests, only 2 of them in the semester and they are very confusing. He grades the papers like he knows it all when it comes to writing. Truth is, I could write better than him. He is quite comical though, and I love his shirts. He means well, but he sucks as a professor.
Great guy, but the hardest professor I've ever had. He grades extremely hard, doesn't offer any extra credit, and is kinda boring. SO SO HARD TO GET A GOOD GRADE IN!
Nice guy, but grades extremely hard, avoid if you can
Probably one of the nicest profs I've had. He really wants you to understand the material. The problem is his tests are purposely insanely hard!
Indiana Jones and if your lucky you will have a short run in your class too....Its always wacky weds with his great outifts..and his hat and glasses top it off..and we are in class right now righting this cuz its pointless to go...
I thought he was a great teacher. The material after the 1st test gets much more difficult, but if you pay attention and ask when you have questions, he is more than happy to help out. Aaaand he has sexy shirts.
This class was REALLY hard. He is probably the hardest prof I've had at Central. He's nice, but don't think that you'll just be able to easily pass the class.
Listen up, if you are thinking about taking this guy, he is not that bad! I did not go to class for 3 weeks and i still got an A. He curves all tests, so if you suck it doesnt matter just hope everyone else sucks too! Also if you actually do go to class he gives extra credit. I am taking him next year. he is SUPER BORING though.
he is a reall boring teacher and just goes over notes all class...the test are pretty hard but he curves all them so it is actully not that bad
Exams are hard, although he sets it on a crazy curve. Notes notes notes. Hard to pay attention to, and uses really bad examples.
He is not very helpful. I tried to ask him questions when I didn't understand and he didn't really help at all. his tests are hard, and what he goes over in class is not what is in the books, which he tells you to read.He does have a weird scale, and extra credit, but if you dont understand. Its hard!
Really Difficult class. really boring teacher. a whole lot of notes. AMAZING grade scale so its definitely possible to get a good grade.
He's such a nice guy but all he does during class is goes over slides for students to take notes. The tests are pretty difficult but usually everyone gets a bad grade so the curve is insane. I got less than 50% on all of my exams and somehow managed to pass with a D+ in the class.
Seriously, RUN!!!! I have had a 3.5 gpa my entire life and had a general interest going into this class.... I have a C- and havent learned a thing. he is the worst teacher to have. All he does is talk about slides and talks to you as if you already know the material. i hope he reads these so he can change his teaching style or just be firedno joke
The material was not presented very well, he did just read off the powerpoints however, it's not a difficult class if you take notes. Before the tests, just study the notes and read the chapters. The exams are online and you have time to use your book. Extremely boring though..
He is not nearly as bad as he is made out to be. Yes, he is very boring, but if you go to class and take notes you can do well in his class. His exams covers the chapters assigned/the notes that he gives. They are very fair and are curved a lot. It is not an easy class, but he is a nice guy and you can do well if you put in some work.
Doc Bailey is not that bad. He has some weird mannerisms, but he teaches well. The material is difficult no matter what and he explains it well, you just need to study. He is willing to help, very flexible, and has a very large curve to the class (75% of the points is around an A). Don't be afraid to take him.
Super nice teacher. The quizes were a little difficult, but they were online and you have a few days to complete them, so as long as your willing to put the time and effort into the quizes you can do good. He also drops your lowest quiz grade. With exams he posts practice exams that are very simular to the actual exams. Dont be affraid to take it.
Mr. Bailey is a good teacher, but this class is still one you need to show up and pay a lot of attention in. He is well versed in the material which sometimes makes it hard for him to put it into Lehman's terms for you. The quiz's and tests are difficult but he curves your grade after each exam. Good teacher but again difficult, got my C- tho.
Anyone with the option to take Dr. Bailey for macroeconomics should do it. Yes it is a hard class but you will not find a better prof to teach it. You end up taking about 4 pages of notes (handwritten) every class, which the tests and quizzes are off of, but it isnt that bad. Do the practice exams and memorize them and you will be fine.
useless teacher. lectures off of powerpoint (which is what you take notes from) and makes no attempt at interaction with students. there is no continuity between classes, you just pick up where you left off from the last class (looking at the clock). he assigns online quizzes but questions arent specifically what you talk about in class. AVOID
Hard Class, 5 online quizzes drop 1, 3 exams, Class was boring read straight off powerpoints
He seems interested in his subject but I would stay after some days to ask questions & never got much more than a page number to read... If I understood it from the book I wouldn't need further explanation. He seemed like he never reviewed the material before teaching it in class - he seemed bothered by questions. VERY BORING too... I'd never retak
A hard professor. Extremely detail-oriented and wordy. Hard to study for because review sheets are vague and the notes are too exhaustive, and he expects you to use every little bit for test questions and homework. Homework is hard because he doesn't teach everything that the homework requires of you. Only take if you can devote serious study time.
Very nice person. Will call on students in class and put you on the spot for answers to questions. Homework is hard but the curve is favorable. Exams are hard and almost nothing for a study guide - again, the curve helps a lot.
Professor Bailey was very helpful. He made macro interesting. I really enjoyed taking his class.
You will take a lot of notes. Homework and tests are very difficult but he curves everything with is awesome. Really nice professor and really helpful.
RUN AWAY!!!! Terrible professor. I can't even understand how this man is a professor. Don't get me wrong the man is intelligent but when it come to teaching he is utterly useless. It is quiz exam only and he deliberately will try and trick you with mis-wording.
Dr. Bailey is such a nice guy. Very willing to help his students and curves all of the grades. There are only 3 tests and 8 quizzes (he drops the lowest 2). Attendance is not mandatory, although I would definitely go to class because you will need the notes-they aren't put on Blackboard. He was a little boring at times but I learned a lot.
Class was horribly boring, not Bailey's fault. He always answered quickly when I emailed him with questions, gave 8 quizzes all online, wild curve on exams (he gives study guides too). I used the textbook to learn the material because I was too bored to focus in class but most people didn't even open it.
Bailey makes econ really interesting. If you pay attention and go to class, you'll be fine. Open note quizzes and exams are off the power points and book.
RUN AWAY FROM BAILEY. he is the most boring person on this planet. He words his exams so strange that you literally have no idea what he is asking. I had to guess on just about every exam. The only good thing about him is his curves.
If you go to class and take notes that are directly from the Power Points, you will pass no problem. The tests and quizzes are taken directly from the notes and he explains things very well. I've had to drop out of an Eco class before but he makes it easy.
Show up, take notes, retain the information. He lectures every class period with power point. He does not put the slides on blackboard but if you go his office hours he will give you the slides you missed. There are 7 online take home quizzes. He drops the 2 lowest scores. He curves the course and it saved my grade.
Took this class for my minor, be weary if you are not an Econ major!!! Nice guy, a little boring, but very knowledgeable and can answer anything you ask pertaining to economics. 3 exams, 3 quizes (drops lowest), 5 hw (?lowest dropped). One HW is worth almost as much as an exam and is equally hard, if not harder. Bring a friend or make one!!!
You must go to class to get the notes. He hands out 20 points of extra credit for attendance. The online quizzes are somewhat challenging but not to bad with your notes. The tests are very hard and the final is cumulative. Lectures are long and boring and not very well formatted. He has an amazing curve, I have above 100% and got a 75% avg on tests
Stern, but fair.
This professor was literally the worst professor I have ever had. I have never hated a class more. He never talks to the students, you a just a body in a room. His quizzes are online and they are his made up questions so they make no sense. His exams are impossible. 3 exams, expects you to basically already know the material. Major curve on exams.
Dr. Bailey's classes are the cut and dry power point style lecture with the occasional in-class, ungraded exercise. He designs study guides which mirror the exams (which, by the way, are majorly curved); he also drops the student's two lowest quiz grades. Overall, an easy A if you show up and pay attention while in class.
MAKE SURE TO TAKE THE NOTES! Honestly, if you show up to all classes and take notes you should get an EASY A Without the curve I have a 99% super easy to pass this class. Quizzes are all from the notes. Exams are from the notes and practice exam/past quizzes. He gives out 20 extra credit points for attendance... Show up and take notes
I don't know why people are saying the quiz answers are in the notes, I have been to every class and only a few answers have come from the notes. Lectures are boring and hard to follow, acts as if he is teaching other professionals. Does give a good curve but that is only if you go to class! An attendance sheet is passed on random days for EC.
Difficult to understand the topic, attending the class is as equally as staying at home and reading the powerpoint. Quiz answers are not found in the notes as it's claimed to be.
I honestly did not mind having Dr. Bailey this semester. His lectures are quite boring to sit through, but he's an extremely nice guy and will work with you if need be. He gives 2 points of extra credit just for coming to class for 10 class periods, so I definitely suggest going to every lecture.
Bailey was an awesome professor who went through notes at a good pace. All you have to do is go to class and take notes. Super cool guy.
Be ready to be bored. He is highly ineffective. His teaching style is death-by-powerpoint and he will read off of the slides for the entire class period. You're better off reading the book, because it will actually be covered on the exams, unlike his lectures.
He calls on students randomly during the lectures which is really annoying if you don't know the answer. The way he words his questions are very confusing. He drops your lowest 2 Blackboard quiz grades out of the 7 and curves the class heavily. Also, he gives out extra credit just for showing up on random days.
Dr. Bailey is a good guy but his lectures are very basic and bland. You're going to want to take notes on his presentations and he words questions on quizzes and exams very awkwardly. The tests can be tough but he curves them a ton. I'd take him again
Grading scale is awesome ! Economics is a boring subject in general but he tries to make it fun ! Just take good notes and youre fine !
Seriously, the hardest class I have ever taken. If you are looking for a challenging, boring lecture, difficult exam class, this one is for you. Bailey is extremely boring and his powerpoints are dry and not entertaining. Exams were extremely difficult, even after reading the textbook and studying the material he gave.
Bailey is a good guy but extremely boring when it comes to class lecture. He reads off the PowerPoints for the whole class period and randomly calls on students which is annoying if you dont know the answer. Makes up his own tests and quizzes and words the questions very awkwardly so they are difficult to understand.
Very nice man, but as a prof he's terrible. If you miss a single class you're behind, and if you miss one word in a question you could get it wrong. His class is made of up 300 points, entirely based on quizzes and exams. He offers EC and has a curve, but doesn't realize that if you need a HUGE curve the teaching is the issue not the students. DONT
Your entire grade is tests and quizzes but extra credit is given for attendance. He doesn't post lectures or worksheets (the only thing we do) on bb so if you don't go you're in the hole. Don't even bother getting the textbook. Not a true study guide either. If you take the notes and do the worksheets you will be fine. Your grade is on a huge curve
Do not take a class with this dude. He calls students out in class for answers and its super annoying, everything is graded is quizzes & exams, and is lectures are powerpoint boredom. The plus side of Bailey is that he gives extra credit for showing up on some days. The extra credit saved my grade. The exams are extremely confusing and difficult.
Attendance wasn't mandatory, but its a good idea to go because he gives out random extra credit and doesn't post slideshows on blackboard. Only graded based off test and quizzes but you get a huge curve. His worksheets are helpful but the lecture can be a bit boring.
His lectures are very boring and does not post his notes to blackboard. He gives out daily worksheets to go with the notes, which is your study guide for the exam - DON'T miss class. He is very kind and answers emails quickly, but I feel this course could have been easier if it were laid out/organized differently.
This class is incredibly challenging. Lectures are powerpoints with vocabulary only. He will hand out worksheets in class and makes you struggle to figure out how to do them. Then he will call on students randomly to give answers. I should have failed the class with an E/F but he curved the class 2 whole letter grades. Terrible experience.
Grading him off before COVID when we were in class. His lectures were pretty straight forward, no textbook, goes off PowerPoint, with worksheets throughout the lecture (not graded) to make sure you understand the material. Homework, however, was graded by student teacher so partial credit was hard to come by. Tests too were kinda difficult, study.
Professor Bailey is a nice enough guy, but he makes the class more boring than it already is. The quizzes aren't that bad, but they are worth almost no points. The tests are what your grade really depends on and he does not make them easy. To get a good grade you have to give this class more attention than a normal 200 level class.
I took an Econ class over the summer and got a B+. I know for this class it won't be the same. This has been my hardest course at CMU so far. Your whole grade depends on the tests, and the extra credit that he gives out to save the kids that are failing. If you are not a good test taker, stay far away.
Prof Bailey is a nice guy. Over the semester: 7 short online quizzes, 4 exams, attendance is extra credit, and no homework. Class was kinda boring, but you need the notes from class to pass the quizzes. Overall, I have nothing bad to say and I'd recommend taking him.
