I enjoyed this class, though it was hard. He says he wants discussion but he just lectures. Try to get on his good side or else he won't notice you and participation is a big thing.
He seems to be a really good guy who is very easy-going.

Why did I have to read that stupid book about the cards... and his tests are pulled out of thin air. I liked the subject NOT the teacher. He’s better suited at a string cheese incident concert than in an institution for higher learning.
He is a really nice guy, and kinda funny! He is interesting and the class isn't that hard, but you have to go to class and listen.
Ugh. Nice guy, bad professor, like someone said. He gave us an exam on BRIGHT orange paper once, and I'm sure he pulled it straight out of his ass 5 minutes before class. Yuck.
he's too cool for students, at least that's the impression you get from his attitude. he takes forever to grade tests, and really doesn't seem invested in longwood or his classes.

he is a good teacher, but won't teach you everything that is on the tests. You will have study or you won't pass (which includes reading). he is very understanding and will work with you. you will also will learn a lot that you can apply to everyday life.
Is a real ass when it comes to visitors coming to class. If the guest doesn't understand and you try to explain, be prepared for a nasty email from him.
Doesn't listen to other people's opinions and thinks he is right about everything, even his knowledge of the female anatomy!
The guy is awesome. Don't know how anyone couldn't like the guy. I have him for the Seminar class as well, just a really nice guy. Class is a lot of info but he's a cool guy.
The material isn't too difficult, he however is. I have a D+ and I study my ass off.
I agree with one of the comments about studying your ass off, i do and am failing the stupid class.Its so hard, expecially since the tests are all essay.Im sorry,but some people arent good at essay test.Dont take this class,I thought that is was going to be a fun class,and Im failing it!DONT TAKE IT
I think that he's a good teacher, i just never feel very prepared for tests...he says the weirdest things tho...pulling on taffy...wow
I had the best time with Dr. B on this trip. Although the academic things are few and far between, the cultural experiences are incredible. Take this if you get the chance, and can I say, in his own way sometimes, he is attractive.

Whoever thinks he isn't a good professor is either not going to class or lazy and pissed off because you're failing from not reading. If you have ANY interest in psych at all, he can get you to understand it- he's really nice, and answers all questions. If you read, you'll get an A. Take his class.
One of the worst classes I've ever taken. All he does is talk about stuff that you'll never be tested on. Oh, and what you ARE tested on comes out of NOWHERE!
The people who are saying he's a good teacher, I noticed, are for the most part in his 101 class. As someone who's had him for not only 101 but also two of his 300 levels, I know first hand that he's the worst professor in the department. Take Apperson or Carkenord instead. They can actually teach.

Tests are a joke! He makes you remember just about every little detail your write in your notes, doesn't ever really make the class fun or interesting,it's all generic learning (if you can call it that) I don't recommend him to anyone for any class.
To sum up Bjorenson, he is a **** (he talked about knockers the first day of class--it's an adolescent development class--among other discusting sexual things unrelated to the topic at hand)and he is LAZY, his lectures are unorganized and his tests are something he pulled together in 10 minutes.
Be careful with this teacher. He's somewhat unorganized, and for the most part his upper level classes are self-learn classes. I do agree with the comment below, his tests seem to be something that was developed within ten minutes before class. I recommend reading the book thoroughly to excel.
Having had Dr. Bjornsen for several classes, I can adequately rate him as a teacher. Hes very unhelpful and will do basically anything he can to not help his students. He could care less about teaching, and is very condescending. I've gotten good grades in his classes, but only from teaching myself.
Very graduate school style course- many essays as opposed to multiple choice tests. He talks about things that you're not tested on b/c it's an upper level course (and b/c it's college!)! I enjoyed the class very much, but I think he could've been more organized with assignments.
This man is obsessed with sex. The whole class was based on his theories about circumcision. He also has a tendency to be disorganized and confusing. The tests were something of a joke, repeated questions and asked tiny insignificant details. I wouldn't take him again if you paid me.

i have learned alot
Didn't know much about the subject. Re-typed the chapter on slides and never provided new information. OBSESSED with his "scandanavian heritage." Very stereotypical views of other cultures (ie asked my friend from Canada if she liked beavers and said eh). Thinks very highly of himself and his all-black ensembles. (ps. chris...its NOT very slimming)
I took this online. I liked the course and felt that Dr. B really made it a point to connect with his students, and I like that personal touch. He knows his stuff-yes, his quizzes can be tough--I didn't do well on all of them, but he's fair and I did get an A for the course. I would love to take his campus courses--I think he's a great professor.
The class is boring,he doesn't give good examples or good notes, doesn't really have a rubric for grading papers,and tests are taken online (which is not as good as it seems). He joke about his weight but his jokes are not funny. Class notes are not dependable and must read all chapters in book to recieve a passing grade.
Dr. B is very fair. Yes, sometimes the information you see on his exams was not included in the lecture; however, it is almost always in the book (bolded terms/concepts). He was always very willing to help me when I had questions, especially if he breezed over something class- just take the initiative/time to go and ask!
He was a GREAT professor... I recieved 100's on all my tests and that's rare. You just have to take his notes seriously. The test is straight from them.

Awful professor! He's on a power trip and he treats the class like they are all in middle school. Unfair. The class was definitely a waste of my money!
Can't follow him, can't understand his lectures. Most of the class is spent discussing irrelevant things,he forces his opinions on his students, and does not listen to theirs. He's obsessive about himself and basically just irritating in general. So far the only professor at longwood that I just can't stand.
As well as Adolescent Development, I also had Dr. B for Developmental Methods and Cross Cultural Psyc. He was a great professor. Very helpful and gave good lectures and was funny. He even gives online open-book tests. I never experienced any of the inappropriateness mentioned in other reviews.
Worst professor I've ever had. He waits until the last minute to grade papers, is horrible at giving feedback, and his tests are hard. For the tests, you don't just read the textbook, you have to study it because he will ask questions about the little details. I could never get anything higher than a C on his tests.
Cross-Cultural was ok. After learning from my first test in that class, I taught myself from the book in order to pass. He was a little rude and insensitive.

Dr bjornsen teaches the class like its elementary school ALL over again. With assigned seats and he totally calls you out and counts you ABSENT if you go to the bathroom. He is a complete jerk, very Holier than thou attitude. TESTS are insanely difficult and are nothing like lecture. YUCK!!
HORRIBLE professor! Do not take Developmental Methods, take another class that satisfies the credit like Buchert's cognitive psych. He is horrible about giving instructions for assignments, the way he grades papers is a joke and his tests are hard. P.S. The black is NOT very slimming!
Bjornsen's class is easy if you study. The info is interesting and he's always open to your questions. Not sure if he actually reads your papers because I got 100's on mine. The tests challenge your knowledge, but that's the point. You should probably read the chapters before the tests, he doesn't cover it all in his lectures.

Dr. Bjornsen was a hard teacher that, at my then current maturity level, I resented but have since learned was right about a lot things (particularly women). He ROCKS! Thus Spake The Oulie!
Dr. B is all in all a pretty good teacher. He has worldly experience and his perspectives challenge others to think differently. However Dr.B is pretty hard and his tests are harder-BUT if he knows you've been trying, he'll give you a break. I went from failing almost all tests to getting a C for being a 'model student. Just try your best

By far the worst teacher at Longwood University. DO NOT take any classes with him. He does not grade fair. He also takes off points for the most outlandish things for some students and lets others get away with it. WORST PROFESSOR!

I was pleasantly surprised by his developmental class. I had him as an adviser and avoided him for criticizing me as a soph, but he was just trying to help me. Material is interesting and easy. Dismayed he did not allow computers, but turns out, you don't need them. Just pay attention, take notes, and study.

I disagree with the majority of the comments. I've had Dr. Bjornsen twice and I think he's an awesome professor. He's really nice and willing to help however he can. His classes are very interesting as well.
This is a horrible professor. He teaches his opinions, rather than the facts. I have no clue how this man earned a doctorate. He made it really difficult for me with my learning disability. He violated my confidentiality more than once, and he should know better. He is incredibly disorganized, and his tests are never ready on time. Had him twice.
Easiest/most interesting class I've taken at this University. Bjornsen will teach you and make you laugh. I literally took notes, watched movies, and rarely studied and got a B+
Awesome professor. Teaches what you need to know, very helpful. Exams pretty much cover what you learn in the room. Read the book though, especially for his final in cross cultural!!! If you put in the effort, then you can most definitely pull an A.
Horrible professor, easy class. He is rude, grades students based on his fondness for them, and spends the class on his soapbox instead of covering class material. I've gotten As in both of the classes I've taken with him, but that's because his tests are a joke if you just read the textbook.

Not necessarily a bad class if you do the reading, but he has a tendency to read directly off the slide during the lectures and isn't the most interesting professor.

I thought he was a great professor! I made my minor psych after taking his class. The only reason why some people don't like his class is because they are only taking psych for a requirement. I went to his office hours a lot and he helped me out a ton, I really suggest taking him.
One of the most irrelevant professors here at Longwood University. He is NOT student oriented at all, his tests are extremely difficult, and he is a narcissist. If you want to actually learn things in the field of psychology, I suggest taking another course with some of the other great psychology professors here at Longwood.
Be prepared for a reading quiz every class so don't skip!
There are daily quizzes in this class from the readings but he goes over the readings before the quiz. Only a couple test but if you don't study you'll fail. He makes you work for your grade but overall it was a good class.
Daily quizzes that can really help your grade if you are just prepared and read for class. This is college, he really does not ask for much besides being prepared. He is very strict on classroom rules but I guess that is fair because I was not on my computer or phone at all. I recommend taking his class because he is VERY smart and will help you.
Dr. Bjornsen is a narcissist, he has you read a book he wrote for Cross Culture himself. His weekly quizzes are ridiculous, my whole class did so poorly that he started to give study guides and even then the guides don't cover the quiz questions. Just don't take him if you can help it, he's not a good teacher.
Nice man, and I truly believe he cares about his students. He is opinionated and says what's on his mind which steps on some toes, but nonetheless he is a good professor and knows what he is talking about. Quizzes are kinda hard. If you're the slightest bit unsure of something, ASK for clarification. Strongly recommend visiting his office hours
Dr. Bjornsen is a great professor. His quizzes progressively get harder which means like any other college class you just have to study a little. I learned a lot in his class, he's really smart and passionate about what he talks about. His lectures were never boring and he encouraged questions from people. I would definitely take him again.
He is an ok professor, however, he will treat you as if you're in high school. You can't be on your phone, no food, no bathroom breaks, you can't leave class before he dismisses you, and you cannot lower your head at all or he will stop class to reprimand you in front of everyone. The class itself isn't too hard as long as you study and read.
Dr. Bjornsen is an average professor. He does take attendence at the start of class and will deduct points for any conversation during lecture or even minor use of a cell phone. He is lecture heavy and refers to the textbook a lot, so if you don't read I don't reccomend taking his class. He says things that really steps on some toes so be careful!

I really enjoyed learning about the different cultures taught to us during Cross-Culture! You can tell he is really passionate given his personalized lectures and his desire to challenge students thinking! Downsides: Studying for tests were difficult & stressful given that they are short answer & no study guide. Reading and attendance are REQUIRED!
If you are going to take psych 101 and find that you have him. Drop or switch to someone else. He is a super nice guy, but is very set in his ways and if those dont work with your learning you are bound to fail the class.
I had him for Psyc101 and he has been one of my favorite professors so far. He has a sense of humor and often jokes about several things. Quizzes are given once a week, so make sure you actually read the textbook and take notes. If you have any questions, he is very easily accessible outside of class.
Never again. He is VERY passive aggressive. He expects everyone in the class to have questions and will NOT let you eat or use the bathroom. He GRADES on that. If you try to answer his question, if it isn't word for word of what he wants he will literally say "Thanks for trying but you're wrong.". He really puts his students down.
DON'T TAKE. After class I made a suggestion I found helpful (originally his idea) when he got very close to me and threatened me "I've been doing this since before you were born. I've had problems with you since the beginning. If you keep it up we're going to have issues.". He was always asking us to make suggestions and I was met with a threat.
Really fun and chill with his students. Main problem is that he only has tests and a term paper that make his grade. If you fail a test youre kind of screwed.
Dr. Bjornsen was one of my favorite professors I've had at Longwood. He has a good sense of humor, talks about personal experience applicable to class (instead of just solely reading textbook material) which made the class super interesting, and creates an environment of respect in the classroom.
Wish I could give a zero. He is extremely passive aggressive and narcissistic and does not like students who show any kind of independence or self-respect. He is insulting, rude, and the only professor I've ever had to directly tell a student they were wrong. We got off on the wrong foot and I've since had multiple and ridiculous issues with him.
He is a very smart and knowledgeable prof. That being said, he is cruel when it comes to grading. You do bad on one test and you are screwed. Also, he never admits to making mistakes on the tests. most class averages are in the D range. he does curve sometimes. Not accessible, takes a week to email you back. But very nice and funny, good lectures

Ive had him for 2 classes and hes my advisor. Ive always spoken and participated in class and he really appreciates that. He has gone out of his way to continue to help me get ahead of masters program competition by completing studies. Hes a great professor and will work with you to help you succeed. study and do the work and youll get an A
This is your warning to never take his classes. I would rather graduate late than ever speak to this man ever again.
Be prepared to feel lied to every quiz. I swear every time we had a quiz, which is every monday, he tells you the material to prepare but honestly no matter how much you study that material theres questions that you have never discussed. His wording on said quizzes is also extremely odd and makes you feel illiterate.
This guy is absolutely ridiculous. So disrespectful to eager learners, unless you reach inside his mind and spew the exact answer he wants, good luck getting any recognition. I recommend dropping this class if you want to maintain any self worth and decent gpa. Totally an egomaniac, should have his license taken away.

This professor was AWFUL!! Literally took him twice and I failed. His study guides do not help and his ego is horrendous. Literally confided in him about having a disability and he told me I was wrong even though I was diagnosed. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!!!!
I've taken 2 classes with him and failed both. He is so hard to follow in class. His study guides are no help on quizzes and he has a horrendous ego. I confided that in him about having a disability and he told me that I was wrong despite being diagnosed. I dropped my minor because he's the only one that teaches the only pillar I need. Don't do it.
for all quizzes the questions can all be answered true or false which is really nice. He does not give any homework. He is not good at guiding lectures and can get off topic Very easily. If you have a mental illness and are not open to someone telling you your illness is basically false then don't take this class.
I've had Bjornsen for several classes spanning 3 years as well him being my advisor. Had a rough few semesters during the pandemic, he recommended that I try construction, saying "everyone in society has their roles." Sadly, I didn't take his advice and had him for CrossCultural and Infant/Child. Biased in all subjects, refuses others idea's.

He gets a lot of hate...some of it is deserved and some of it isn't. attendance is mandatory and discussion days are annoying but he is also passionate about what he teaches. lectures are clear, curves all tests, and is kinda funny ngl. not saying he's the best, but i have had worse. he's just an interesting person who u have to get used to.
Not a bad professor, but difficult. He also is radical in all his opinions which is offputting at times. you just kind of have to sit through his sermons and nod. I do think hes good at heart though. discussion heavy, quiz heavy, reads lecture slides
Dr. Bjornsen is a harder teacher but if you put forth the effort and go to class he is very understanding. He is very helpful if you go to his office hours and you make sure to ask questions!! There are quizzes every Monday but as long as you study they aren't super hard. He is a wonderful, knowledgeable teacher and I suggest taking him if you can!

By far the absolute worst professor I've ever had. Makes comments that come off very weird. Def has favorites. He brings you down whenever you answer a question that is not exactly how he wants it worded. Literally grades you on if you get up to use the restroom during class. expresses his strong political views that are irrelevant 2 class content
We had a test on a day it snowed in Farmville and they discontinued the FAB bus service to campus. We emailed Dr. Bjornsen about not having a way to campus in the snow storm and asked if we can take the test virtually or another day when the bus was running. He told us that wasn't his responsibility and if we missed the test we'd receive zeros.

His lectures are very engaging and I come out of each class knowing way more than beforehand. His tests are easy to study for - he gives lecture note handouts. He also gives good feedback on the term paper. Some of his teachings are biased to his own opinions, but other than that, I really enjoyed his class!
Y'all trust me I read the RMP. He's actually a nice guy and his class isn't that difficult. The only grades you have in his class however, our only test a rough draft of a paper and a final draft of the paper. His test are also only true or false.
I read the rmp before this class and i was scared but he's actually a great guy, and good at teaching as well. the only problem i had was that all of the tests are true or false and you are only graded on the tests, a 5 page paper, and a long final.
Worst professor I have ever had. Grades for class are five tests and a final. Not allowed to leave during class, if you do you receive a violation. Syllabus states your grade is dropped a letter grade for missing 10% of class but he'll drop your grade at three absences. Also very opinionated and rude. Save yourself and do not take this class.
He's not a bad person, but he's a terrible professor. When I say not to take his class I MEAN IT. Never in my life have I had a teacher so unforgiving and unfair. He has the craziest, most unfair policies. I literally do not even have enough space in this review to write out everything, but seriously, if you can avoid taking his class, do it.
He's very rude and doesn't care about accommodations or if you have a disability with your learning technique. He claims that every student's disability is “not real” and will not give you the accommodations that you need. He also takes points off if you have to use the bathroom or if you come in late. He's really disrespectful.
This professor was unbearable he thinks hes better than everyone, dont bother raising your hand or making a comment because he will just end up embarrassing you or completely disregard you. Just rude and not open minded at all. He also couldn't care less what you have going on, you have to email the dean every time your absent and need it excused.
I took this course to fulfill a civitae requirement and all I did was stress about this course. His tests are extremely difficult on purpose and his attendance policies are extremely strict. I enjoyed his lectures and I remember a lot but the difficulty doesn't compare. I would never take him again due to difficulty and general rudeness.
Professor can be challenging, but worth the effort. Lectures are engaging, though sometimes opinionated. Study hard, use resources like unstuck study, and you'll do well. Overall, a rewarding class if you're willing to put in the work.
Rudest professor I have ever had! I had to withdraw because he refused to let me take the test another day ( I was going to be out of town) , talked to me like I was stupid. I had already failed the first test, so I had to withdraw. Right after I did, he moved the test!!! His tests are 50 true or false impossible questions

Has pretty bad opinions and is unfair towards students. I got good grades but he was super rude. There's a reason he's never seen talking to any other professors, he's unliked.
His class was easy, just a lot of reading there were so many days I forgot to and he would ask me questions on the reading and I made stuff up. The tests were always true or false with essay questions at the end so the exams/tests were super easy. I enjoyed learning in his class. I will say his dad jokes are cringy at times
I took his cross cultural class and it was super easy, I know there's opinions about him but honestly he can TEACH and that's not something I can say about all the psych professors who just read off of slides and are boring. His lectures are genuinely engaging. I've learned so much from him and I hope he knows not everyone dislikes him.
