You can tell he thinks he is the**** (verbatim quote, "I'm smart, funny, and mean."), but is not necessarily mean. The class is moderately challenging; you need to pay attention, but his arrogance is so stereotypical of a young PHIL prof. It doesn't really get to me, but it is painfully obvious that this man would fail in any other area of life.

The Nietzsche class I took with Chris was compromised by a mendacious strain of liberal appropriation of a philosopher who is from the far Right. Would take again

He is a good professor, just the class is a bit hard. I don't know what these other reviews are talking about, he DOES lecture in class, so don't worry. If you pay attention and take notes you shouldn't fail, but it would be hard to get a super high grade, some of the assignments and test questions are tough.

Worst prof I've ever had at LSU and I just graduated. PHIL 1000 is an entry-level elective course and this man thinks he's teaching a 4000-level course. AWFUL grader. The amount of assignments we have is more than I've ever had in a class. I cannot stress enough to NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! I got an A, but I spent MANY HOURS on his assignments.

This dude sucks. Does not put all assignments on calendar and easy to over look graded work. I had a definition that HE gave and I changed the words and was given a bad grade because of a 6% similarity to a random online article. Do not take his class

Literally, I mean literally never take this man. Im a pre-nursing student (3rd semester) and this has by far been the most stressful class I've taken. Pop quizzes AT LEAST once a week. Teaches and grades like this is a 4000s class when its literally intro to Phil. Test are impossible, my class average on an exam was a D+ and he still didn't curve.

Dr. Blakely is a decent professor; I prefer active learning (conversation) on the subject rather than listening and applying the material, which is more passive. However, beware that he makes pop quizzes at random. Also, his handwriting is terrible and good luck understanding it! Exams are tricky, with 50Questions and 5Choices each. Exams worth90%.

i can tell professor blakely has good intentions, he is just not a good teacher. i had to drop because i could not pass an exam to save my life. the class dwindled when midterms came around. hard pop quizzes, heavyyyyy tests, and theres no room for errors in this class. extremely hard for a 1001 level class. and attendance was mandatory.

tests are very tricky. There are a lot of quizzes, we had one pretty much every lecture. Lots of readings and the best way to prepare for tests is to re-read the chapters assigned for that test. The final is hell unless you become an expert on philosophy. If you're a Phil Major he will breakdown topics for you, if not GOOD LUCK. Don't take this

Made unnecessarily hard for a 1000 level class. Should be fine if you treat the course like Organic Chemistry. If you only need a humanities, look somewhere else.

He fails to really prepare you. I sat in the front of the class & remained attentive and still left the class not knowing what I was taught. His review quizzes are worded very confusing so it makes you lose all motivation to even study for the course. He is one of the professors that really made me really rethink college this past semester

He is very rude and not good at explaining what you need to do in the class. He also doesn't alow you to use your computer, ipad, or any form of electronics. He will embarrass you in front of the class. He yelled at a guy for having an airpod in. He also threatens to take points off your grade if he sees you with any form of electronics.

Really just an awful professor, only really cares about pushing his philosophical ideas on you by making you memorize the ideas of his favorite philosophers, my only C ever in my life, in a 1000 philosophy class, says alot about the guy.

While this class is passable, it is the hardest elective I've ever taken. Pop quizzes in almost every class on readings and no electronics are allowed in class ( will take points off for having your phone out). The exams are open notes but still extremely difficult and worded in ways that make you believe you're having a stroke WORST ELECTIVE.

Hardest and rudest professor I've had at LSU. Attendance is mandatory as he gives random in person quizzes almost every class. Tests are open note but the way he words things makes it so confusing. Was always sarcastic with students and always called students out. Absolutely no electronics whatsoever.

Don't be fooled by the average ratings, those were from COVID times when everything was online, all of the recent reviews are very low for a reason. He's the worst professor I've had at LSU. There are so many better professors for this class. He laughs in your face and insults you almost every class period over a simple question.
