He is definitely a great professor, interresting class, good explanations, open to questions and very helpful. He makes everybody feel at ease.
Professor boucher is a great teacher. He makes class interesting and he is extremely helpful. He is also the hottest guy at this school.
Open notebook tests... but if you haven't been to EVERY class, it is easy to get a bad grade. Paper sucks
Has attendance policy but if you go to every class you will do really well on his open notebook midterm and optional final. He grades the papers hard but lets you rewrite them for an A. Very helpful outside of class. He really wants you to succeed.
Good professor but you have to work rather hard on the papers to get a good grade on them which is 30 % of your grade. Midterm isn't really that easy even with the notes because he gives your so many notes it is difficult to decipher what he wants.
easy tests and quizzes as long as you take good notes! he is an extremely hard essay grader but you can rewrite for a better grade...he's always available to help with rewrites as well! great guy, entertaining and very nice to look at as well!
Dr. B is the coolest teacher I've had by far.Yes he is a hard paper grader, but if you go see him during his office hours he is willing to help.He will let you rewrite papers to get an A.If you get an A in the course you don't have to take the final.
Such a great professor and he really loves teaching. Very tough grader when it comes to papers, but he lets you rewrite them for a better grade. Take his class...oh yeah did I mention he was hot?!
Dr. Boucher is an EXCELLENT teacher! He's willing to help and wants you to succeed. The best teacher I've ever had. Did I mention he's totally HOT? Oh Yeah!
Awesome teacher!! History is boring but he made it bearable and at times, fun. You are stupid if you do not take this man.
My favorite professor so far. Gives good help on the research paper and assigns interesting reading. Encourages participation. Takes attendance and gives quizzes with notice. Very fun in class.
Very nice guy, funny in lectures. He really knows what he's talking about. Interesting focus in history. AND he's not bad on the eyes
Great teacher, know his stuff and makes the class fun, well as fun as history can get anyway
Dr. Boucher is by far the best professor at CofC. Seeing his students do well and learn is top priority to him. The class isn't easy, but he is always available for help.
Wonderful professor, captivating! I definitely recommend him, especially if you want to learn history! Clear and extremely helpful. Is always available if you need help or advice for the class. Intelligent, warm-hearted, and passionate about his work and students.
Very interesting class. Midterm was long and difficult. Final was easier than the midterm. Very helpful. Gives you an opportunity to redue the paper. If you want a different perspective on world events since the 1700's then take him. VERY informative and makes you think. I recommend this class.
He is a very funny Frenchman, both the exams are open "journal" but he is an extremely hard grader, on the paper he gives you time to re-do it once he turns it back, but he grades pretty tough, but he is a great teacher who you can learn a lot from
boucher gives the most lively lectures i've seen so far at c of c. the man.
His lectures do not make you want to fall asleep. He is very interesting and has good lectures. Not to mention he is hot and has a hot accent. :) Anyway, his test are all open notes..yet, its still really hard to make over a C (very strange. ALl in all if you come to class you will do well.
all I can say is hot. interesting class; very helpful and wants you to do well.
Well, I am in love with him, but other than that . . . he IS a great teacher and I learned a whole lot. But he is an impossible grader. It's near impossible to make over a C but I love him. Tests are open notes but, it really doesn't makes a difference. . .
He knows his stuff and is excited about teaching it! He has well organized notes and lectures, but he is not at all hard. Prett Fair grader, laid back and funny guy. Plus he is SUPERFINE!! He is so hot sometimes it is distracting.
Don't get the wrong impression by all the ratings that call him "hot" I guess if you are a chick or a**** then thats great but the thing is its not gonna help your grade much. He will strait up screw you on your tests and paper. Good luck if you decide to take this dude.
Really nice and interesting. So funny! He's VERY helpful if you go talk to him. Very understanding. He made me decide to be a history major
all those who think it is imossible to get above a C must not have tried very hard. I've taken him twice and received a B+ in both classes. go talk to him about your paper topic, engage in class discussion and have well organized, detailed notes for the open note exams, and you will do fine. Boucher's da man!!
Boucher rocks!! Hard grader & demanding, but well worth it. He will do all he can to help out & knows his stuff. Great techer. TAKE HIM!!
Open Journal tests which are easy, but the paper is a killer you do get to rewrite it but if it is not the way he wants you to write you dont get a good grade. He has very tough about the paper.

He is such an incredible professor. He makes me want to go to class. Take him if you can.
Nice enough guy. Teaches entirely from powerpoints. 3 Open notebook exams. Pop quizzes. One essay that's graded pretty tough. He offers a lot of help with the paper, but expects you to write like a history major. But then again, what hist prof at this school doesn't?
Umm yeah i had Boucher for 102 and the class pretty much made me want to shoot myself in the face. It is rediculously hard for a 100 level class, and he is grades your tests and papers like youre in grad school or something. Take this class if you want to invest alot of time or are extremely interested in history...other than that don't.
I love this guy! So flexible, tries his best to help you when you are stressed, out and gives useful evaluation of all of you work. He is the greatest professor at CofC not to mention the best looking!
Awesome prof! He actually makes history interesting and makes you want to go to class. His lectures are easy to understand, open notebk exams, "unannounced" quizzes but he really tells you when they will be. He's a tough grader on papers but he'll help you a lot if you go by his office. One of my fav profs at CofC!
Great guy, loved him. If you can get in a class of his do it! Very helpful and understanding! Will do anything for his students and is very interesting to talk with. I can't stress enough what a great guy he is!!!!
Boucher rocks. His class is hard but he's an awesome teacher! Definitely take him, he makes class fun!
Great Professor! Always available outside of class for extra help. He has a great French accent and is VERY easy on the eyes. His test aren't easy, but if you go to class, take decent notes and visit his office, you should be fine. He gives quizzes, there is an oral presentation and a term paper.
Dr. Boucher loves history! He will do anything for you. Open notebook tests, drops lowest test grade and is always available outside of class. Not to mention he has a French accent to die for and is extremely good looking. You won't regret taking him...trust me.
Dr Boucher is a great professor. His work is extremely time consuming though. You HAVE to keep up with his worksheets (not graded) or prepare for a D or worse on the exams. He is very helpful outside of class. He encourages you to talk to him about your paper...do it! He adds extra points. Do good on the first two exams, drops 3rd one.
He tries to make jokes (in his cute accent!) that sometimes work and sometimes don't. Has a worksheet for almost every day, do them and you should be fine. Grade is based on Midterm, Final, quizzes, and a term paper. Always open to talk in his office to help you out. I'd recommend him.
In class, he's never clear on what he really wants - go to him for extra help on essays, and the redo of the midterm. Make sure do worksheets for the class though they aren't graded.
Funny professor at times. His tests are open notebook but they are pretty hard. Only had to write one paper that was pretty easy. Do your homework! The questions on the homework are on the 2 exams. our grade is only 2 exams, 1 paper, and homewk. You have hwork every night and he will only pick up 5 of them w/o warning the whole semester. Boring.
Dr. Boucher is the cutest little French guy you have ever met. However, his class is extremely difficult. You have 3-5 worksheets that go along with the 50 or so pages of reading a day. The worksheets are not graded, but it is mandatory that you keep up with them or else fail the midterm and final. I can't stress this enough.
French, sexy, charming, witty....difficult, demanding, long-winded... It's hard for a 100 level class, but he's dang pretty.
Dr. Boucher is a very nice guy! If you go to his office, he is more than willing to help you out!! His tests are open notes but extremely difficult! Take his class but be willing to put forth an effort...Oh, and he has a cool accent and is usually pretty good at making the class laugh! Great guy, pretty cool class!
he is a hard teacher but a really funny guy, the test are open book but are very hard, only had to write 3, 2 page papers and will help u as much as u need, take him!!!
Boucher is so funny! His class was so hard, but my favorite of the semester. Lectures are really interesting. Tests are essay, and you can't just bs. You can choose like 4 of 5 essays on the test. Take super good notes cause you can use them on tests, but you have to copy basically every word he says in class. Don't be absent. He is hilarious!!!!
Great professor, hard class!! Take this class if you are willing to work!
I'm still trying to decide if his sexiness is worth taking such a hard class. I think maybe not, b/c I lost focus staring deeply into his eyes the whole class.... What? We were supposed to take notes?
Dr. Boucher's Modern European History class is very enjoyable and I highly recommend it. The lectures are very interesting and he does his best to keep them fun by making jokes which are usually funny. To make a good grade in this class you must be willing to work. Dr. Boucher assigns reading and optional worksheets for each class. DO THEM!
Boucher definitely was not an easy professor. He expects you to work and A LOT. I hate history with a passion, but Boucher was the first professor that actually made me want to hear what he had to say. Attendance is not mandatory, but you pretty much won't pass if you don't go..He's a really great guy, and you will gain a lot if you take him.
Boucher's the man!! Upsides: He's funny and actually makes his lectures pretty interesting and worth listening to. Downsides: It is pretty hard to do well on the tests, you need to know the reading for those. For the quizzes you can maybe get by on lecture notes alone. Difficult but a very good teacher, may make you actually want to study history
This professor is awesome. He is extremely helpful and understanding and his classes are very interesting. He keeps us laughing.
VERY HARD! he makes lectures interesting but the tests are ridiculously hard. he will help you if you go to office hours, but for a 100 level course it shouldn't be that hard. I usually dont have any trouble making good grades and i struggled to get a C. But the upside is he is very charming and a nice man! but avoid if you can.
Boucher is awesome. Not only is he incredibly sexy with his accent and little jokes but he's a really good teacher. Class is always interesting and fun but do the homework! He doesn't collect it but if you don't do the worksheets or go see him during his office hours you will fail this class. Take him, but be ready to do a LOT of work.
Real nice guy and is really helpful if you go after class to see him. Cracks some good jokes in class to break up the boredom at times. Lots of optional work that kind of helps out on tests. The tests are extremely hard though, I would say avoid if you want your gpa to stay where it is at.
Probably one of best professors i've had so far. He's extremely helpful and really cares about his student's grades. The lectures aren't too bad; he makes some cheesy jokes but it's all good fun. His class was the first history class I actually liked going to. It isn't too hard, just take legit notes and you should be fine.
Wonderful teacher! Enjoyed his lectures. He gives a hard exam but so willing to help you improve. Go to his office hours. He's very friendly and engaging.
I had such a crush. Great guy. Useless course, he was the only reason I went.
Boucher is probably one of my favorite professors. I did not like the idea of modern history but he made it fun. I never read the book and aside from the paper I never did any outside work and I averaged a 97. Yes he is pretty attractive. He's also very encouraging and helpful if you need it.
Dr. Boucher is an excellent lecturer and is great about meeting during office hours. His class only has 2 take-home exams, 4 quizzes, and a final. Exams are on the readings and are graded harshly. The quizzes are on class notes. Attendance is listed in syllabus, but he rarely passes around a roll sheet.
By far the most helpful teacher I've had at college of charleston!! Super nice and super helpful! Very enthusiastic about what he teaches and really wants to see his students do well and enjoy the class. If you pay attention, take notes, and participate you will do just fine!
Great guy, very enthusiastic, always cracking jokes, as previously noted very nice. Would take him if you can!
Hilarious guy, boring class (the entire class was in Christopher Columbus) Take home midterm that's allllll essay, but the final was multiple choice. He's a really tough paper grader, I often felt my papers were not nearly as bad as he scored them.
Very nice, helpful, and fair. Definitely take advantage of his office hours if you need them, very helpful. A lot of reading assignments, but they aren't always necessary and you learn a ton. One midterm, term paper (hard paper grader), a final, a few quizzes. I'd definitely recommend him, he is great! He makes the class.
3 papers, 4 quizes. Harsh paper grader- never felt like they were that bad. Go to office hours and let him read them before turning in. Quizes are all on reading but he gives you a heads up beforehand. Class was kinda boring unless he got off topic. Loved his accent though. Would recommend, but he is hard on papers.
3 sets of essays, a few reading quizes, can chose to not write final paper. I wrote the final paper and he bumped me up from a B+ to an A-. Go to office hours and get him to read over your papers. No tests. Super funny!
He takes this class way to serious to the point where it's obnoxious. It shouldn't be that hard for a HIS116 class. Exams are all based on lectures, and he doesn't give any slides, notes are all vocal. Do not take if there's other possibilities.
Boucher is a really chill, funny guy. He knows his lectures can get boring so he cracks jokes and gets off topic sometimes to make things more interesting. You have to take a lot of notes so it's hard to know what you have to study but I'm horrible at history and NEVER read but I still got a B-.
He probably only has clarity and funny going for him. His class requires to be fully engaged and participating every class in order for him to like you. If you aren't participating, in his mind you aren't trying and it seems like he grades your things even harsher. For those who just like to listen and can learn without having to participate, GL
Awesome dude! I got a decent grade even though I skipped a bunch. Tough grader but hot accent. 8/10 would recommend! ;)
Love this guy. The American West is a very interesting course however. His class is solely based on readings and discussion. Make sure you read read read, and you will do fine.
Dr Boucher is super personable and nice. His history lectures are interesting, even thoough I'm not a huge fan of European history. He's really funny as well. You definitely need to read the books he assigns as you have quizzes on them, but for the most part there's not much quizzing on stuff he posts online unless he talks about it in class.
Dr. Boucher seems to be a nice person that wants his students to do well, however, he expects a great load of work and participation in class. As an incoming freshman I managed to do pretty well in all of my other classes except this one. It felt like more of a philosophy class that was set up for failure rather than a normal history class.
I took his Native American history class for credit and enjoyed it so much that I came back for US Hist. Dr. Boucher is an awesome teacher and I genuinely learned a lot from him
Don't do it freshman.... Just don't
Dr Boucher is very personable, kind & comical. His lectures are long but he makes them interesting & captivating. Lots of reading do not skip the readings. Quiz heavy. Two exams that are very difficult. However if you meet with him he will improve your grade. Final Exam is optional. No papers unless you chose to do extra credit. A good challenge!
Definitely a tough grader but is very willing to meet with students outside of class. The readings he assigns were pretty boring as well and he expects you to know them with a lot of detail.
Super nice and very passionate about the class. As long as you pay attention in class, you should be fine. Let us use our notes in class for the first 20 minutes on tests. Essays were not that bad. Would take again.
Cares about the subject, very knowledgable. Very happy to help and seems to love to teach. Flexible with assignments. Few assignments in class. The ones that are assigned are difficult but are very helpful at truly learning the topic and showing your understanding of it. Ideal class in my opinion especially for aspiring historians. Would recommend
Really cares about students and wants you to get a good grade just as much as you do. His zooms are actually entertaining - make sure to participate as much as you can. Emails back right away and helps in any way he can. Usually I absolutely hate history classes, but he makes it bearable by being so friendly and caring. Will re-explain anything.
Really nice guy and can keep lectures interesting but the amount of homework is exhausting. It might just be because it's a honors colloquium class but the amount of work seems to be way too much. He's a very caring guy and very funny guy though. He's probably better for other classes, but for HONS226, it was extremely hard to keep up with the work
Look, he's a really nice and funny guy, so it breaks my heart that I can't enjoy his class. You can tell he's passionate about the material, but he talks for 90% of the class, giving students little to no opportunities to participate, even though participation is a huge part of the grade. He's so nice, but I wouldn't recommend him.
Professor Boucher gives very intriguing lectures and if you take in depth notes you don't necessarily need to read the books he assigns, just the passages he posts on OAKS. His quizzes are easy, but his test are relatively hard (the tests and quizzes I've had so far have been open note).
Im a STEM major, and I have absolutely no interest in Pre-Modern history. However, Prof Bouchers lectures were very interesting and engaging, and I actually found myself interested in a lot of the topics. He will call on you even if you dont know the answer, but participate with what you do know and laugh at his jokes and you will be fine!
Boucher is very caring and funny as well. He genuinely cares if the students are engaged and like the material. Homework was always reading assignments for books we had for the class. 3 exams, all take place at home. The exam is essay formatted with about 2-3 prompts. about 4 quizzes (some online, some in person). Not a hard class if you take notes
He is a really nice guy and cares about his students. He isn't going to specifically reach out to you but if you go to his office hours it's very beneficial. He gives a ton of homework done and if you have to make sure you stay on top of everything or you will get behind and struggle to make it up.
I loved this proffesor for three reasons; He was very caring and nurturing towards students, He loved teaching the materials even though it wasnt his speciality, and he was tough but pushed you to grow. However, heavy homework and test are pretty hard but he was great at communication and teaching.
He's very nice and passionate about what he teaches. However his tests were extremely hard and were impossible for me to finish in time, and he is a very tough grader. Other professors for this class are much easier.
Very personable prof. Go to office hours. Very willing to help you succeed. Need to take your own notes. Tests are hard only if you don't do wrkshets. Executes material wonderfully. Still learned info although I was familiar with content. Appreciates participation. No homework only wrkshets. Tests are handwriten.READTHENOVELS.Quizzes on books.
Very personable prof. Go to office hours. Very willing to help you succeed. Need to take your own notes. Tests are hard only you don't do wrkshets. Executed material wonderfully. READTHENOVELS. Tests are hand written. I still learned new info though I'm a history major. Inspired me to pursue a history major. No homework but complete worksheets.
He's not that bad and doesn't call on people to participate. He gives you a reading every night but doesn't make a difference if you don't read them. You will do well if you actually put a little effort in and study for the quizzes and tests he gives you. Tests are open notes too. He drops your lowest test and quiz grade too which is nice.
Boucher is adorable. As long as you show up to class, read what he assigns, and participate then you will be fine. He cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. He is a little hard to understand sometimes but if you ask for help he will 100% help you. He is awesome and provides guided notes!!!
Very humorous and enthusiastic prof. Loves participation. 2 tests(Go to his office or email him drafts, very helpful feedback), 5 quizzes, drops lowest 2, and poster assignment. Need to buy and read books. 2nd time taking Boucher and enjoyed every class. Gain insight into an aspect of American history rarely talked about in American history books.
He was a good teacher, we only had a few tests and I really liked that if you did well on the exams he would average those and use it as your exam grade. We were allowed to use notes on the test so definitely make sure you take lots of good notes.
Prof. Boucher is funny and always in a good mood. The only grades you receive are for exams and quizzes, which there aren't many of so it is important to do well. His classes are always lectures or documentaries.
I really enjoyed Prof Boucher! Very nice and his lectures are well thought-out. Powerpoints only have pictures and few words and aren't posted. Homework not required but will help. Exams are easy if you do the study guides. Takes attendance and counts for small portion of grade (along with participation). Great prof!
prof boucher was the most caring professor I've had at cofc. he truly cares for his students and loves what he teaches. paper tests and we are not allowed to use notes so study!! you will not do well if you do the readings or don't pay attention in class
Prof. Boucher makes history engaging with his passion and humor. Tests are challenging but doable with diligent note-taking and using Unstuck ai for prep. Overall, a rewarding class.
He was great! Lectures were a little boring at times, but he did his best to keep things engaging. Tests were a little hard but he isn't a hard grader and does whatever he can to give you some extra points.
I really dislike history classes but he is very into it and makes it more fun. It is very test heavy and there is no homework so you have to study hard.
I believe Boucher is a great guy, but as far as a teacher - I really never learned anything in this class, you essentially learn on your own with the textbook that doesn't really help the type of chicago he wants you to use.
You really don't need to read the material, but you CANNOT miss a lecture. If you miss a lecture, have fun trying to put the pieces together. But overall, he's pretty funny and easy going, so he's worth a shot.
