check out the mullet
Excellent lecturer.
the mullet man is a marvel
watch out for his midterms
80s rule!
entertaining
if you like beavis and butthead, you'll get along great :)
He's an amazing prof!
fantastic, entertaining lectures
Very animated & hilarious!
Great charisma and very fair in marking
Good Teacher. Funny uses application in order to reinforce learning good teachin
Amazing Prof!
Such a good prof, really really funny, and his stories are great learning tools.
This guy is hilarious, but kinda tough.
Great prof. Entertaining. Can be a little weird. Hard.
Excellent prof. funny as hell. Easier than people would have you believe.
Nice guy, good lectures, but way too easy. This is not highschool!
Great classes that are entertaining; Great examples; midterms can be tough
very strange but very good.
The man's mullet rocks! Great prof, totally catches your attention.
Awesome Teacher, funny and interesting, mmmmmmmmmmmullets!!
Boring
Weird.Strange.Interesting! :)
Rules
Great lecturer. Intertaining, intelligent and knowledgeble.
eccentric, love the hair
nice tight jeans~~ distracts me very much. otherwise, he's the greatest prof!!!!
midterms are very difficult
very odd, but in an entertaining and amusing way. A great course!
Very entertaining
ALL EXCELLENT! very very funny, great prof, 100%mc exams, study hard and do well!
very interesting prof :)
Excellent prof. Very funny. One of the best profs I have ever had.
Great class - keeps the interest of students with Elvis talks
One of the best prof's I've ever had. His courses should be mandatory
this man is a genius!! If everyone taught like him, I'd stay in school forever.
Very wacky, funny. Fairly easy too (I went but hardly worked).
Involving and thought-provoking lecturer. Hard tests, "m'kay".
Definitely one of a kind! Makes the course interesting. Tests are kinda hard
AMAZING!
Great lectures, gives good examples, VERY HARD EXAMS, go to class/study hard!
Awesome lectures! Easy to understand, with clear examples of definitions.
odd but funny, i think he's pretending to be NICE ... but turst me, he's not
obsessed with his own ideas and test you on them. still, he's interesting.
Marks? Cheap on the Bonuses, hard ass tests. Learning: Great!. What do you w
A genius in a mullet. Love him!
take a course from him!
Very interesting lectures, really enjoyed the course, but he's not approachable
Everyone thinks that he is soooo funny but I disagree, he is a fake and is cocky
Tests can be hard at times, but lectures are very interesting!
Great prof, uses clear, memorable examples, fair tests
a bit whacked... he loves the cure... that explains alot haha, yea he's nuts
His humourous lecturing style is great, however he has major boundary issues otside of class..he's scared of his students.

Funny and has a cool mullet, but he's kind of a jerk to talk to one-on-one. Is very unapproachable, and gives off a weird vibe. Class is interesting, nonetheless.

he seems to understand just what is appropriate to say when dealing with delicate subject matter, and he is NOT a jerk; he is shy and will help you understand anything you ask
hillarious in lectures, but tests are definitely tough
Hilarious prof... i think he watches too much TV! He may seem arrogant and strict in class, but he's very helpful when approached off class.
Very good sense of humour, but sometimes he goes overboard. Tests are murder, especially the stuff about the central nervous system.
Funny guy. Tests are challenging. Impossible to get lecture materials outside of class. The female TA he hired is absolutely useless. Regardless, he makes the course interesting.
lectures are ok but tests are hard because a lot of the material comes from things he never taught. hard to study for his format.
His lectures are sometimes rushed and his tests use material that is never covered in class, but he's still a very good prof. He keeps classes interesting and informative. Just know who Morrissey is, and you'll cruise through the course
He makes class amusing and very interesting, but his tests are difficult to study for.
Tests were extremely difficult but the classes were super fun.
great guy, excellent speaker, makes classes really interesting, tests are difficult and hard to study for. Multiple choice is not easy!
Difficult tests. You have to attend ALL lectures and read the text. On the test you'll find "as discussed in lecture...". Lectures are very detailed, I suggest record them because you cant write everything down.
he is so smart and funny and wonderful! This class blew my mind! He puts in so much time and effort for his students, and expects his students to do the same. Love him!
Has some very interesting lectures which are ususally easy to stay awake in and listen to. tests are terrible though. I stongly suggest recording this mans lectures if you want a high mark in this course (read the text as well)
Tests are more difficult than it sounds. But he's a great guy with an extraordinary sense of humour. Recommended if you actually wanna learn something.
I laughed my head off during his course. Great sense of humour. Tests were absolute murder though and should be for Med students in Grad school, not a 1st year level course. No matter how much I studied, I didn't do very well on the tests.
Fantastic teacher. Makes information fun and easy to relate to. Tests are hard but if you study you can do really well. He's got a fantastic mullet and does great South Park impersonations.
This guy is hilarious! he knows what he is talking about and makes it interesting!
HILARIOUS!!!
Interesting, smart, funny!Go to his class just to LEARN, rather than try to write everything down;it's much easier, because u'll UNDERSTAND what he's teaching and have the main points written down to remind urself when studying for tests (+ glance over text)
Very fun
Great class. I've learned sooooo much! The way his delivers lectures allow for easy understanding. Definitely one of the best profs I have ever had.
Super prof, funny guy, makes things clear and easy to understand through hilarious examples. Awesome mullet to boot. But remember to study for tests!! Understand, dont memorize.
Extremely interesting classes. Tests are impossible--(you aren't doomed if you dont study)love the accent and the mullet
The lectures for this class are really interesting because Burris uses a lot of cool/funny anecdotes. However, I hated reading the text. The info was so dense; it seemed like there were 20 examples for every one point. Overall, good course.
INCREDIBLE professor! People that say he is hard to approach don't know what they are talking about. Classes were more fun then they were work. Understand the concepts, don't just memorize them for the tests.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! Taught us Abnormal Psychology like I never thought I could learn and get interested in. Amazingly keeps the audience focused in a theatrical fashion of teaching. Will definitely DEFINITELY choose him again in future courses.
he's the larry smith of psychology -- nuff said
i would have to agree with everyone else - make sure to understand concepts more so than memorize. he is such a memorable prof anyway, just open your ears and enjoy!
He is a hilarious prof. He uses awesome examples and most of what he talks about is crystal clear. He is definitely one of the best
Dr. Burris is a great teacher but he is a hard tester... don't take him first year but other than that I recomend taking his class at least once
Great prof. Very well organized course. Entertaining classes, even though they're huge.
Overall, the course was very interesting and he is very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the topic but tests are the most difficult ones I've EVER written. If you are willing to let your average suffer, take the course b/c it is very interesting.
This guy is awesome, he's fascinating and really knows his stuff. Tests weren't that bad, its called studying people. Anyone who has a mullet and a PhD is ok by me. If you want to learn a lot and have fun, definetly take a class with him
Easy if you pay attention. Willing to help, but don't just jump him in the halls! Witty and brilliant. Mullets are awesome!
Funny prof but the course didn't really apply to psychology at all. Tests were WAY too difficult, even if you attended lectures and did readings. Would not take his class again.
This guy is on fire!
Absolutely fabulous! He is one of the few great TEACHERS i have yet to encounter. His tests were difficult but not unfair. Very memorable lectures...he tries very hard to get his students to understand the material presented on many different levels
This mullet marvel can manhandle multitudes of methods, clearly clarify any concept, and find fun forms for formulation.
He is amazing! Never have I been more intrigued by a teacher!
Fun guy - was a little scary when I went in for extra help. Uses great examples to explain concepts!
Great lectures, really bad tests! Watch out, and hit the bo0ks!
AWESOME prof. Possibly the best. He is funny. smart and his lectures are clear and easy to understand. Yes he has hard tests...but if you listen you can do really well. Would most definitely recommend any of his classes.
Awesome prof!! Would recommend him to anyone. His lecutres are hilarious and he definitely keeps your attention. Tests are challenging though so you have to know your stuff.
POWER TO THE MULLET! An awesome prof! One of his classes is a must. This particular class was alot of work but an applied learning process instead of theorectical; it had a lot of hands on group work which was beneficial. Prof Burris is funny, memorable, and fair. Try to take one of his classes!
funny, smart, lots of examples, amusing, entertaining, you won't be likely to fall asleep during lectures
good teacher, He makes everything clear and he's entertaining, but his tests suck!!!! If you are a good test writer, then take this class, if not, don't count on a good mark
Spontaneous and fun teaching style - but as everyone else has said, very challenging tests.
Makes lectures interesting, stresses important points to know. I didn't think the tests were unfair at all. I'd take another class with him again for sure!
He was an awesome prof! However, his tests were extremely confusing, although I did enjoy the hick names he used! You walk out thinking you did well and when you see your test mark it is NEVER what you thought you would get.Although he is funny as hell! Be prepared to work!!!
Most amazing prof imaginable, the guy is absolutely hillarious and gives very relevant examples that stick. I've had friends who weren't even in the class come to the lectures out of interest. Tests - study in terms of application, not memory work.
The funniest guy ever, class is so much fun! Tests are hard but that just means you have to study. I learned SO much from this guy!
Excellent professor, hilarious and knows his stuff. Great lectures you won't want to miss. Tests are extremely hard as they stress application in a textbook-memorization course. Nevertheless, learned a lot and would highly recommend for any psych course, would probably be better in upper years.
Excellent prof!! Very entertaining classes with alot of morbid humour mixed in. The mullet is just the icing on the cake!
Great prof. Teaches you everything you need to know and then some. If you attend class you'll do very well. If you do the readings then even better. Influenced my decision to major in Psych.
AMAZING Prof! He was so funny! Really cares about his students. His exams were difficult but if you do the readings and go to class and actually pay attention it's not that bad. Made me want to go to class.
I did very well in both course I had with PRof Burris. He is a FANTASTIC professor who makes every class informative and entertaining. I did not feel like I was wasting my tuition money in his classes. His only downfall is that he can be a TAD arrogant. :)
A professor with kick. You'll keep going back for more.
Yes, he's funny and entertaining but his tests are impossible! Readings and films used for class were outdated and BORING! In no way do I feel like I really learned anything relevent in this course
awesome.
The funniest prof. ever. I highly recommend taking his intro to psych course - his class sizes are usually smaller than other 1st year psych courses because it is at STJ. But I laughed so much in his lectures and he even threw some pretty funny stuff into his test questions. I highly recommend him as a teacher
Very funny prof..made getting up early in the morning seem worth it BUT the tests were super hard...text readings are long but what else can be expected? The really good thing that came out of this class was I realised i DID NOT want to become a psych major student..
He is a terrific, funny prof and teaches psych well but do not ever talk to him after class about questions or the test. He is a complete pr*ck. He will not help you with anything. His tests are very detailed and very hard watch out.
Love the mullet my friend. The only class I actually liked in second year! Thanks for the laughs.
Brilliant and wonderfully crazy!
Didnt get a particulary good mark for this course, but I enjoyed every bit of it anyway because Burris was so entertaining AND I learned a lot too! If it wasnt for this course, I dont think I would choose psychology as my major.
gotta luv the mullet. the class is really interesting, and with burris bouncing around everywhere u don't have time to keep up with notes, laugh at his jokes, watch him twitching out different scenarios, and try to guess how many black shirts he owns to ever become bored. make sure you study the textbook well for the tests!
Burris made this class so much fun, his tests are a joke if you have any comprehension of material at all, and I love how there is no final :D I feel like his psych class is a lot easier then the really big ones for sure.
Brilliant!
everyone thinks hes funny but, i find him very egotistical..please teach me something instead of trying to make me laugh.... his tests are hard.. but this isnt my strong subject (clearly).. the coolest thing i ever saw him do was wear a morrisey (sp?) tshirt, he was nice when i asked 4 help, but the help was not much
If you do not have a base knowledge, good luck.. a lot to learn and crammed into little time. he is sometimes funny
People should quit complaining about this guy. He is SO funny, he makes class SO enjoyable and just because he's different outside of class than in class doesn't make him an ass. He's an excellent teacher and he really wants students to succeed. He's intelligent and his tests AREN'T that hard if you study well and do the readings! I loved it!
I pretty much agree with all of the other ratings - this prof is hilarious and his examples are really helpful - I remembered a lot of the material just by attending the lectures. If you REALLY want to do well, do the assigned readings twice... Tests are hard, but they're not impossible.
watch out he likes to blow up bad ratings and put them on overheads... Burris is a nice guy but he tries to make the class laugh too much... and. not. funny...
Excellent professor. He did a great job at teaching PSYCH 101. His lectures are very interesting, a real quirky guy. If you go to lectures and read the text, you'll be fine.
horrible prof. unhelpful. thinks he is smart, keyword: THINKS. He is actually frustrating. good luck!
If you can't figure out your chinese finger trap, don't bother taking his class. If you are reasonably intelligent, but lazy, do not take the course with him. If you are not lazy and not dumb, you will find the course to be enjoyable and useful.
helloooo please teach me something instead of trying to make me laugh which he did not do. i had a better time watching all the fresh out of high school students be in awe of him... ah what a joke
very enjoyable, but the tests are tough. Believe the hype
This guy really knows how to put on a show..it definitly makes you want to come to his classes. The tests are hard but still fairly reasonable if you do all readings and go over your notes. My favorite prof so far.
Take any class you can with this guy, it is worth it.
Simply one of the best lecturers I've had. Clear and entertaining lectures, but do make sure you know the material for tests - even though they were multiple choice, they weren't cakewalks. What other prof could pull off a blazer/Morrissey shirt combination?
Well, as a prof and lecturer he was absolutely incredible. Your attention was grabbed from the first lecture. Unfortunately, his tests are very difficult... Besides the tests, everything is excellent!
He may be entertaining, but the content of the course is shallow. He's shallow: it's like eating popcorn, good for a short time but leaves you feeling empty and hungry very soon after.
the worst professor i've ever had.
AWESOME prof. Hilarious and makes learning enjoyable and easy.
Very funny guy, by his appearance you would guess he is a depressed bum. His tests are incredibly hard....shouldn't be at a 100-level course!!!
He's entertaining but he explains simple concepts in the most complex way possible. He could easily make a 3 hour lecture into a 2 hour lecture by filtering out all the extra jargon that spews from his mouth.
okeyy sure this prof is funny...i enjoyed all of his lectures...but his tests are HARD!!! I studied the text but didn't do well on the test...
Very funny prof! After studying for the longest period of my life, and literally knowing every single word of the text AND each lesson, still got a 63% on the tests...unbelievable
great guy!
Did not like the guy! Had a very cocky, stuck up attitude. Sorry to those who loved him... but not everyone is a wiz at MC... tests were difficult. However, did enjoy his stories and lectures that were not in the textbook. Has the potential to be a great prof, just needs to remember that its an Intro course. Thankfully my highschool offered Psych.
BEST PROF EVER!! sooo good! hilarious! and helpful, full of useful study tips, tests are hard but not unreasonable. loooooved him so much! looking forward to taking more classes with him!
He's a great Prof and he really knows how to teach. He makes the course very interesting and relates the material to real life situations.I found the class very rewarding but if you want to do well you really need to know the material inside and out and be able to make the material practical.HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you're willing to put the effort in!
He explains the simplest of concepts in the most confusing way possible. His lectures can easily be condensed into an hour yet he needlessly drones on...his love for death disturbs me. The world doesn't need more philosophers!
he was a great teacher! probably one of the best ive had. hes really interesting and creative and energetic. he explains things very well and in different ways to help you understand. the tests were not that great, however, and not very clear.
Awesome prof! Lectures are enjoyable. If you attend them, do the readings, and study, you will do well. I got a 90!
I wish there are more profs who can teach and lecture like Burris - I actually WANT to go to class! I took 3 of his psych courses & even though the marks werent high, I wouldnt trade them for anything because I learned so much. Prof Burris, if you ever read this, please know that you're a GREAT prof because you made your students WANT to learn!
Definitely one of my favorite professors throughout the three years I have been at Waterloo. His tests are very hard but they make you think. All multiple choice because of the size of the classes taught but if you study and go to class you should get a decent mark. I plan to take many more "Burris" classes!
awesome
Gives great lectures, really great. however his tests are killer. I would love to take more classes with him but his tests are to hard on my gpa
Great prof, Hard tests!!
Three words: GO TO LECTURES! Very interesting class and often funny. Great textbook, do the readings though! I recommend you buy the study guide, it is very helpful with his difficult M.C. tests. No final.
Criminal profiling class is a lot of work, but well worth it. Great, great lecturer. Very intelligent guy, dedicated prof. Be respectful of his space, and go to class!
Sporting the mullet, Prof. Burris is one of the most energetic instructors Ive ever had. A Fan of South Park, Beavis and Butthead and about a thousand other cultural references, Burris makes the course interesting for the student. I was an English student who had absolutely no interest in Psych whatsoever when I took his course.
I took Psych of Evil with Burris, and that is where i met my idol. lol He is an amazing prof. He doesn't use powerpoint like most profs do, but his teaching style matches perfectly with the way i learn. His classes are usually 3 hours, but they definately don't feel that long. He performs his lectures and is never boring. He knows his stuff!
Great prof, he has a unique personality but I swear he can keep you entertained for an entire lecture. You definately wouldn't want to miss one of his classes, but his tests can be tricky.
Very good prof. He is very good at maintaining the interest of the class and is very organized!
Amazing and Entertaining!
My favourite Prof of all time! I had him last year in my 1st semester - what a way to enter university!! Every one of his lectures was amazing, engaging, and hilarious! A real treat to attend. And the textbook was terrific - the only class where I actually looked forward to readings! Tests were fair if you did the readings and went to class.
I love this man! he's like the ultimate prof....one of my top 3 favorite teachers of all time!
Best prof I have had yet. I would be excited to come to class just to see what strangeness he would come up with - or whether he'd be wearing black again (he always wears black!). His tests are very heavy on applying concepts, so you need to know your stuff, but luckily he makes that easy for you :)
I had professor Burris for second and third year courses. One of the things I admire about professor Burris is that he actually makes you apply the material you learn in class for assignments and exams. Expect to learn a LOT from a brilliant individual, and expect to put effort into the course. Unlike some profs, he respects original thought.
soooo awesome! .super interesting though...usually dread night classes but not with this guy
He's the BEST PROF EVER. He's amazin, his lectures are so entertaining and funny. GO TO CLASS AND READ THE TEXT BOOK!!!! No slacking. Honestly, He's the best prof ever!!...And He IS HOT!!! Whats wrong with you people?!?!?! Don't pretend like you didn't dig the black outfits and the saucy scarves!!!!!!
haha, I like the last comment- I def agree about the hotness! he is without a doubt the greatest prof I've ever had. He is so much fun, rele enthusiastic, and knows his****. Makes class enjoyable. If ne thing, he is a bit cocky and somewhat arrogant, but I guess that goes with the territory. He's a sweet guy and will help you one on one.
Great prof. Very helpful. I joined the class after the enrolment period ended. There is a lot of reading and you have to do it, but it's not hard. Some of the videos aren't for the faint of heart though. A lot of the course seems to be less psychology, more death but it's still interesting.
was okay worked with another prof and was very irritating at times with the expression of his opinions which were shocking i.e. date****is the victims fault if they were drinking or taking drugs etc.
interesting guy, but his tests are so hard. you really have to dig deep in the readings he give. just a heads up, theres no online notes or text book. all he does is stand in front of class and rambles on for 2 hrs.
One of the most arrogant instructors Ive ever had..and idk what you people are talking about w/ him being good looking uhg. All in all the class wasn?t terrible and wasn?t quite as hard as people make it sound as long as you go to class and read the book. It could be an easy A or B as long as you can put up with his egotistical attitude...
I received a good grade in his class, but this man is the biggest egomaniac. If you want to listen to someone try to impress themselves for an entire class this is the guy for you. He is an ok teacher, but I?ve had much better... I don?t recommend him.
I graduated with a Psych degree in '07, but coming back to upgrade my degree. Can't wait to take classes with Burris again.
Great prof to listen to. Has a bit of an Ego, but answers questions when you ask him. Hard on marks, and expects students to go to all of his classes and read the assigned material( it all will be on the test) Don't take that class just for fun or easy marks. Readings fairly boring, but lectures are fun.

Hard on marks, and expects students to go to all of his classes and read the assigned material( it all will be on the test) Don't take that class just for fun or easy marks. Readings fairly boring, but lectures are fun.
I attended every class, studied all material, understood material fully. His tests are VERY poorly constructed. Class average very low. He is interesting, but take your usual mark in a psych class and deduct 15-20%. Taking his class NOT recommended.
Very awesome and friendly guy overall. Seems to be extremely smart on the stuff he teaches as well, so that's a huge plus. Believe what others have said about the tests though - you won't do well by simply memorizing the material. If anything, you'll learn how to be an extremely abstract thinker after this class.
Great prof. As long as you go to class and know your stuff you'll do just fine. As a hint: Get to know your class mates or have a friend take the class with you. This will make it a LOT easier to understand, but just because you have a friend doesn't mean you shouldn't go.
His exams are ridiculously tough compared to class and textbook notes. He's entertaining. I didn't find him very helpful when asked for help. Interesting topic.
Great at giving lectures, really eccentric and off the wall. Shows a few movies, not for fun, everything he does is meaningful to the course.
Interesting prof, does a few impressions. Tests weren't as bad as people say, but I guess it's relatively "hard" for a Psych course because he actually makes you apply your knowledge rather than memorizing the textbook. Interesting assigned readings in the Baumeister. Disappointed that this course does not look at psychology of criminals.
Very captivating for a 3 hr class, trust me you won't notice the time go by and the lecture's over. It's true what they say though, tests are hard and no SONA credits to help out. Not the most approachable, but helpful if you ask, if you can brave the tough exterior.
Amazing proff. Simple courses as long as you show up and listen.
This class is definately the highlight of my week - he makes death interesting! He's funny and his stories are entertaining and help you understand the concepts. This is my last term and I can confidently say he is my favorite prof of my entire undergrad Wish I discovered him earlier so that I could take more of his classes. Strongly recommended!
did an amazing job with both 218 & 232. :)
Best prof! If you can take a class with him do it! He's super funny, and such a nice guy. Tests aren't too hard as long as you read the text, or at least understand the material. I would take a class with him again any day
Amazing prof, tests are insanely hard. No amount of studying will help you, I don't understand why or how they are so hard.
Such an awesome class! No tests, just assignments. The assignments take a fair amount of work. Favourite prof at UW!!! This course fits his personality perfectly!
I don't rate him at all. His narcissism is overpowering, his exaggerations are out of proportion and above all he is pedantic. The McQ questions are completely opinion based and make next to no sense, it's a complete matter of luck! Worst 3 hours of my week are spent in this one lecture.
Not an easy course... No matter how hard you study, some of the questions on his exams are impossible to answer... 3 hour lectures on Wednesday nights, it can be quite brutal. Lecture notes are based on what he says during class, and he babbles and you have no idea if it was something important or not
He's a joke, the midterms are easy but be careful, he intentionally uses ambiguous language to cover his butt when you ask about it. He's useless to talk to and does not know what he's talking about 3/4 of the time. Avoid this class if you can.
This class is interesting and very easy to pay attention to. Burris is intelligent and explains himself very clearly as long as you listen to what he's saying. The tests are seriously difficult, to do well you gotta show up & be able to retain a lot of information from readings. His questions rely on understanding + intelligence.
Entertaining and energetic. very different from other classes ie. creative assignments. informative and fun but does not explain his expectations. Take it only if you love the material and are willing to work super hard. don't take last term if appling to grad school. lectures good but not encouraging of students.. can be defensive and critical.
He was pretty vague with assignment expectations but that left room for imagination . all around an amazing prof-very engaged and helpful when you ask for it, and he really cares about the material. He knows what he is talking about. I would recommend him any time
The way he lectures is interesting and easy to digest. The courseware is really important. If you read it, understand it and can summarize what all the ideas are then you will be able to answer all the questions on them. Some questions on the tests clearly test your understanding rather than memorization. Understanding is the key.
Sick teacher, super funny! Interesting Class, you definetly won't be bored.
Dr. Burris is a wonderful professor and extremely charismatic. You really need to study for this course and make connections. The exams aren't based on definitions or concrete ideas; they are abstract. For PSYCH 232, very little psychological research was presented and personally, I would have identified it more with a philosophy course.
He is a funny professor and is really passionate about his work. He makes the content easy to understand and provides examples that are really interesting. However, I don't feel that the tests accurately represented the material and were very difficult to receive good grades on. He warns you that the tests will be tough from the beginning, though.
Dr. Burris is a great prof. I hate 3 hour lectures, but honestly his always go by very quickly, definitely the best lecturer at Waterloo. You HAVE to go to class because he doesn't post slides and even his slides in class don't contain any information, just titles. The reading is pretty tedious but essential to pass. Test are tricky but doable.
Best prof I've ever had in university. Really cares about what he is teaching and is incredibly engaging. Assignments are tricky but you get a lot out of them.
Dedicated to the research, amazing lecturer, and is genuinely excited about the course content. He works hard and expects you to do the same. He is very helpful for those putting in a genuine effort to engage.
Tests were extremely hard for me, though I guess I could have studied a bit harder. Assignments were super fun and really helped you apply course material! Prof is also hilarious and a great lecturer!
One of the best profs at Waterloo. Extremely dedicated to his work and overall an inspirational guy. Tests are tough, but getting an A is possible. Class is mandatory for passing! there are no slides to go off of, so make friends in class for notes!
I've been with many professors during the 3 years at UW, and I can confidently say that Prof B is by far the best prof I've ever seen - followed by prof Ennis. He is a natural born public speaker, he is passionate, witty, and laid back. His exams are pretty easy as long as you keep up with the topics and listen to what he teaches! Best prof NA
Do not recommend it unless it's mandatory. If taken, do not take the tests lightly. attend all classes and keep reading the notes
I am in Arts and Business CO-OP and I took this course during the spring term. I have heard amazing things about Professor Burris and he did not disappoint. I did extremely well in this course (100 percent) and I had an amazing experience with this Prof. His lectures were clear and concise. The slides he used were really helpful.
he is great but tests can be tricky!
Ugh, my second class with this prof. I really enjoy the lecture material and his persona, however the tests are so freaking difficult, very ambiguous questions. its impossible to get a high mark unless you're genius. dont recommend taking this class or any other classes with Burris earlier than in your 3rd year. Huge load.
Actually tests your understanding of the course material, NOT how well you can regurgitate information. Tests make up your entire mark, they are difficult if you don't know how to study or do M/C. He gets a bad wrap because people are lazy. Don't be lazy and you will enjoy this class.
Prof. Burris is easily the best professor I've had so far here at UW. He's engaging, witty, and extraordinarily insightful. I often heard my classmates complain about the ambiguity of his test questions, but I think those complaints came more from people who hadn't studied properly than from those who truly knew the material well. LOVE HIM.
Burris is a very good lecturer, one of my favourites so far. He does have a bad rep for having very difficult tests, however it just requires a specific type of studying. Instead of memorizing what he says in lecture you just have to really think about all the material and try to make connections. Do this and you will be fine, I finished with a 90!
Fantastic class. my favourite of my entire undergrad career. highly recommend.
Incredibly intelligent and so knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches. Also a really engaging speaker. Found the tests really hard though. A lot of what I felt were smaller details from the textbook so you need to be really thorough when reading, making notes, and studying. He doesn't post the slides and attendance is really a must.
Taken 3+ courses from him over the years, used to really enjoy them but his lecturing gets old FAST with the same catch phrases, material, studies, etc. Insists that his grading/tests aren't tricky if you work hard but his level of assessment is ambiguous enough to keep the avr. low so don't expect 90s from him - even if you study like a fiend.
One of the hardest courses I took during my undergrad. If you don't go to class you are basically screwed for all of the tests, and believe me, the tests are extremely difficult even if you study like a fiend. Most of the test questions are subjective and confusing, and I don't even remember seeing half of them in the readings or lectures.
Trash human. Boring professor, does not give lecture notes and is inconsiderate to people's circumstances.
One of the most charismatic lecturers I've ever had. His class was interesting and he didn't glorify anything or be insensitive in any manner. The tests were engaging, and they asked you to think more than memorize. I would sit in any class lectured by him
Just plain good lecturer. I found myself studying for other courses, and constantly making connections back to this course and specifically to items covered in lecture. I really wish I could've taken this course in person, but even online I still found the lecture to be highly engaging just because the way the info was presented.
I wish I could go back to school just to watch Dr. Burris lecture. He teaches the most fascinating topics and it's easy to become immersed in his passionate lecturing style. He's my favourite prof at UW by far. Thanks for keeping things interesting, Dr. Burris.

I really enjoyed this course. I thought Chris has an interesting style at first but found that he drew me in and kept my attention all during his lectures. Classes were finished before I even noticed the passing of time. Could be the best prof, or definitely one of the best, I've ever had. Would surely consider other courses if he was the prof
