AWSOMEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! take this class with him! He teaches! You'll learn!!!!! I have a crush on him! He is super smart and knows what he is teaching and relates it to us in an easy way!!! VERY GOOD!

He is a great prof, knows what he is doing and is in his position because he truly wants his students to learn. He will make sure that you succeed.

The best professor @ GVSU! Tests are hard but not impossible! Easy to understand lecture. He makes sure the student understand. accepts criticism and realtes to students.

Awesome guy and a great teacher. The class is a ton of work and totally stressed me out but i learned a lot and i think in the end it was worth it.

Really nice guy. Very helpful and understanding. Take good notes and everything that you have to study with is the same on the test. Hard tests, but do-able. I learned a lot in this class. He makes learning interesting and incorporates teaching skills for people who are going into education.

Chris is a wonderful teacher. He really cares about his students and wants you to do well. The class is a lot of work, but for what you get out of it it is really worth it. Study your journal questions and blackboard and you'll be absolutely fine. Take him!

He was an interesting professor but the exams were very hard. I couldn't believe that this was considered a gen ed class.

Would recomend this class for all future teachers. Covers alot of info and lots of work to do, but all of it ties in to make us into better future educators. Do the disscusion board and journal questions, pay attention and you will obtain alot from this class.

The tests were really hard even with studying however I still liked Dobson. He made a lot of analogies to help students understand material. He is also very helpful and sincerely wants students to succeed.

If you are going into teaching, this class will be worthwhile even if you hate science. I would take the class again. The prof explains every clearly but tests are almost impossible to ace. You will have a lot of difficult projects and very hard tests. Be prepared to commit a lot of time and effort. Study blackboard and journal questions!

Just keep on truckin'! This is not a class you will be able to coast through. Expect some work and excrutiating tests, but prof. will assist in ANY way possible to see you succeed.

Dr. Dobson is phenomenal. He's great as a lab instructor and I can only imagine how much fun it would be to have him for class. Explains things multiple ways, offers to explain things in class you don't understand (even if you don't have him), and though quizes were sometimes hard as h***, there was always a project after it that he wouldn't grade as hard.

Even though attendance was mandatory, you were pretty much lost the next day if you didn't go, and it counts towards participation grade. He said reflection questions were SO important, but he only graded about 5. He grades fairly hard, but he's also really helpful. Super friendly, I'd take him again!

This man is very intelligent, but a very tough grader. He doesn't give much direction, and expects you to know everything. He liked the afternoon class better than our morning class and I could definitely tell. The tests are very hard!! Lots of projects, and I reccommend that you start them ALL very early.

I really enjoyed this professor. The class was a bit challenging, but I think it is just a hard subject. Dobson wants you to think he is a really hard teacher, but he is not to bad. wow. this class is HARD, if possible get an easier teacher. Dobson even said: "to get an A in my class you must bleeeeed!" Pretty emo huh? But he wasn't kidding. His tests are VERY difficult. I've read every chapter and studied his slides like a mad man, and ended up with a lousy grade. BUT, Dobson is very passionate about biology and is funny.

Biology is a tough subject, but I really do not think you are going to find a better bio professor at GVSU. He gives you 3 notecards to use on the tests, easy online quizzes that help your grade, and lecture outlines where he gets all of his test questions from. Also, he curves the tests so if the highest grade is a 45/50 he gives everyone 5 pts.

Dobson did a SUPERB job in teaching this class. I hated BIO in high school and then going through this class with him I loved it. He referred to his class as impossible but it's not if you pay attention and read the book intelligently. I got an A on every single test so it's not impossible to do. He did a perfect job making it interesting and fun

He was a great Professor. The class is hard, his exams are hard, he tells you that. You must go to class, his outlines of PP follow the book, that helps. He's fun and explains things well. I would take him again..I thought he was great!

He is a hard but great professor. If you go to class, take good notes and read the book you should do good. Tests really make you think but if you study hard for them you should do great. He lets you use note cards which can be very helpful. Also he always leaves time after class to ask questions.

This is no easy A. He expects alot out of you but if you want to learn Bio this guys is great. he makes a boring subject interesting and accessible, and is enthusiastic about teaching. Two thumbs up!

If you read the text and study outside of class, you will do well. He is very helpful if you meet with him outside of class. Dobson is easy to approach and not intimidating. Great Professor! Very enthusiastic in his teaching. He expects you to skim through the text and follow along with the powerpoint notes. This is not an easy A but he encourages you to see the BIG PICTURE in every chapter and look at the details later. He is very friendly and approachable and I enjoyed taking his class.

Come to class, take good notes, study throughout the semester, and seek his help if you need it and you will do just fine. He should definitely be your top choice for this class. First I am going to start by stating that he is HARD! But, he is a very good professor. I would recommend that if you want a good education in Biology 120 to take him. HE is soo excited about what he is teaching that it rubs off on you. The slides that he provides you with needs a little book reading to really comprehend it. Good luck!

Dobson's "I'm awesome" attitude was constantly on my nerves. However, I am a Bio major, so I didn't think the class was that challenging. If you aren't into the subject, I can see how it would be challenging. His tests are a little on the hard side, but all material is organized in his powerpoints. It's his wording of the questions that get you.

Prof. Dobson is hands down my favorite prof I have had at GV. If you have any questions he goes out of his way to make sure you understand. The class is not easy, you HAVE to read the book, but he made it really enjoyable. If you do well on exams he sends you emails telling you good job and what not also. GREAT PROFESSOR!

He really is not as bad as what people say. Won't say he's an easy teacher but it is possible to do well. Make sure you study for his exams, they're not easy and using the book will really help. Take advantage of the 3 notecards you get for his exams. Also, ask questions and use the review days in class.

Don't get me wrong-I love Dr. Dobson! He is a great guy. However, DO NOT take his class. I ended up with a B+ but I read the book 3 times. I memorized the text & still only got Bs on the test. He's a really hard teacher. If you are looking for an easy teacher this is NOT him.

I loved Dobson! If you do take him, you have to attend lectures because that's where he explains everything really well, and you absolutely cannot cram for his exams! If you study hard and start about 1.5 weeks before an exam, you'll do great. He's a hilarious guy and he's great, he's just not the easiest out there for sure!

Wonderful professor! He is so passionate about his teaching and wants every single one of his students to excel in his class. You can tell that he truly cares about you as a student. He is challenging, and his tests are very hard, but that's part of what makes him so great. You have to work to get the grade, it's not a blow off class!

I STRONGLY recommend you take his class. Honestly, his tests aren't bad at all. If you pay attention in class, you can tell exactly what will be on his tests. He also has exactly whats on the test on his powerpoint slides, which he gives you. His analogies are fantastic, and he makes class highly entertaining (sometimes he acts out things)

His lectures are easy to sit through and he explains everything clearly. but no matter how much I studied I did bad on the tests. i would do what he suggested and nothing helped i would still do bad

This class is phenom! Not only was he insanely helpful, he was honest. He went right to the point of what he expected and didn't beat around the bush. He made learning interesting and kept your attention. He has a sassy attitude which makes the environment of the classroom fun! Study for tests and DO reflection questions and you'll be fine :)

Great professor! I feel 100% more confident as a science teacher because of this class. Was not easy, but I wouldn't call him a jerk! He wanted you to learn, and he expected the best out of you! Funny guy, very helpful! Keeps lectures short, so they are easy to follow. If you actually want to learn something useful, take Dobson.

This class was probably the best class I have ever taken. It was A lot of work but it was worth it not only do I know a lot about the content but my writing has improved greatly! Dobson is fair and tells you like it is. Work hard and you will do well and learn so much! Anyone who tells you this professor is a jerk just didnt want to work.

Took this class for an easy way to get my lab done... Dobson is good with lecture but his tests kill. For a Bio 104 class the tests are wayyy too hard. Don't take this class if you are trying to keep a good GPA.

This professor is awesome. He tells it like it is and he makes the classroom a fun environment. Work hard and you will do fabulous, he is honestly the fairest professor I have ever had. He is always willing to help and guide you in your learning process. I have learned more in his class than any other class I have taken.

When he says at the start of the semester his class is hard, he's not kidding. It's a 100-level course, but expect to put in 300- or 400-level effort to get a good grade. However, he also gives you numerous tools to succeed and is more than willing to help you pass the class.

Dobson was one of my favorite professors honestly. His class is a little tougher but if you have some prior biology knowledge, you'll be fine. He is super helpful and really knows his stuff! I read every chapter covered, took lots of notes, came to class every day and worked my butt off. Got an A-. Seems like a 300, 400 level. Expect to put for a LOT of effort for a descent grade.

Don't listen to the negative reviews - Dobson is great! :) He's tough, but welcome to college! Dobson is easygoing, straight-forward, and funny. Go to class, pay attention, study for exams and you'll do well. Anyone who complains about him being unfair or unkind is most likely a lazy person who never went to class but still expected an A.

This class was hard. However, if you put your time in studying DAILY, you should pass the class with a B or better. His teaching style is great and he kept the lectures interesting. Missing a lecture IS a big deal because you miss a lot of analogies that he uses on his exams.

Tests are very challenging! You really have to study. He is very nice, but the class can be very boring. When he is teaching he does try to make it interesting though. I was stressed the whole semester because the tests are only worth 10 points each so it always brought down my grade. I don't think the class should be revolved so much around tests.

My favorite professor at GVSU. He isn't intimidating to talk to like some other profs. He's laid back. There are only 3 exams, but they are very hard. You'll need to study a lot. Print off his notes and add on your own for class. Class periods are fun and engaging. He enjoys science and really knows his stuff. And he's funny :)

Let's see.. Go to class. Pay attention, listen & take notes. Read over your notes. Read from the book. Understand what you are reading from the book. If you don't, ask him and he will explain. The exams are easy if you know the material. I would say its about 70% individual effort. Dobson's not going to hand you an A, you have to earn it.

You really should show up to his class cause he'll do little things or tell stories that he asks questions about on exams. They are all helpful but you have to be there to know them. He types out powerpoints that you take notes on but you have to learn how he asks questions cause his tests are harder. Still loved him as a professor though.

He is probably one of my favorite teachers here at GV. He makes things interesting, and explains very well. He uses a lot of helpful examples. He's charismatic and gets excited about what he teaches. Attend all the lectures because his powerpoints are incomplete. Understanding the analogies he uses in class is vital; he uses them on the tests. Stay after he finishes to ask questions, or even to listen to him re-explain the concepts for others. Dobson is a great professor if you have taken a Biology class recently. He only has three tests (which are difficult but he allows 3 notecard) and five quizzes (easy 100). However, the lack of study guides or outside homework can make it difficult to understand the topics if you are new to bio unless you are willing to read the book before lecture.

Dobson cares about conveying information, is clear, answers questions, and has high expectations of students. He is one of the best prof's I've had. You need to study in this class because he wants you to LEARN. Seriously one of the most effective prof's and I wish I could take more classes with him. I learned a ton.

He give outline and base his test off of those. He Is very helpful and wants his students to pass. I would recommend taking him if you want to truly learn biology

Dobson is a great professor. He is funny, engaging, and honestly teaches a lot to his students in the amount of time he has. That being said, he is incredibly difficult compared to the other professors that teach this class. If you are looking for a good professor who will teach you material, look no further. If you want an easy A, keep searching.

Alot of people have given Dobson a bad name, but I honestly think that he does a really great job at actually teaching the course. Its a lot of material and he expects you to know it, so its on you to study your ass off, BUT he explains everything so its easier to understand, and is more than willing to answer any questions. Lectures are essential.

One of the greatest professors I've had the pleasure of getting to learn from. Very tough material but thats biology for yah, he did an incredible job at explaining methods.

I was scared of this class beforehand because I'm not really a science person. However, I truly enjoyed this class (even at 8am) because Prof. Dobson makes the content interesting and cares if you do well. He lectures most of class but if you print off the power points, it is relatively easy to follow along. I would take him again if I could!

This teacher is great just a tough class

Dobson is super nice and he wants everyone to succeed. If you don't go to class, don't worry. Puts lectures on blackboard and easy to follow. Always got out of class early and he stays after class if you have questions.

I wish Prof. Dobson taught 226 because he would be my first choice. He is an amazing professor who knows what he is talking about. All of class is lecture but it is engaging and easy to follow along. Sometimes he talks super fast, but if you ask him to repeat something, he will do it right away and make sure you understand. I highly recommend him!

Great professor. Bio isn't really my thing but his sense of humor and stories he would tell (related to class topics) made class more interesting. Really cares about students and definitely wants to make sure we all succeed. Couldn't have picked a better professor.

One of my favorite professors so far! Dobson does a great job engaging students and seems to get everyone excited to learn. Science has never been my favorite subject, but this has so far been my favorite class I have ever taken. Even for an 8am class, I never wanted to skip because there was so much material covered and class was very interesting.

He is SO funny and so kind. His class is so much fun even if science doesn't interest you. His lectures are never boring and as long as you come to class and pay attention the exams are really easy. Great guy!

Professor Dobson is very knowledgable in this subject and makes the class lectures interesting. There is a reflection question after every class, but they're easy and good for review anyway. There's a few other 15 point assignments that will help to boost your grade because the exams are tough. Let's you out of class early often.

Best science professor or teacher I've ever had. He makes things so clear and easy for you to understand and is constantly reviewing key points. This class isn't easy by any means but you always know exactly what's expected of you

Prof Dobson was by far one of my favorites. He made a information heavy science class very fun and less stressful. He repeated the important points many times and gives out a lot of advice on how to do well. He's hilarious and definitely knows his stuff. Exams can be tough but if you study and go to class you'll be perfectly fine! 10/10 recommend

TAKE PROF DOBSON!! Seriously I can not say enough good things about him. The class itself is interesting, interactive, and beneficial for your future classroom (I promise). Prof Dobson himself is a kind, funny guy who really cares about your learning. There is no textbook, and you won't miss class because you will look forward to going! do it do it

Professor Dobson is AMAZING! He is VERY straightforward about exactly what will be on the exams and what you need to study, as well as what he expects on assignments. My advice? Take good notes and work on your concept map throughout the unit! It's worth it! As long as you come to class and are actively engaged, you will succeed and learn a lot!

He is by far my favorite prof. If you show up to class, take good notes, and do the concept maps then you will do fine. I am bad at science but he made it seem like not as big of a deal. His exams are multiple choice, T/F and written response, but thats not as scary in this class either. Hes funny, interesting and cares. I cant say enough good.

Woods said that it would have a great chance to get to the house but I guess I can take him out and get some lunch at the house if he doesnt get to hang out for a couple of months he can take a nap because Im not sure he will get it in time

I loved this class overall and you could tell Prof Dobson has many years experience. Although you do need to do a fair amount of work, it's worth it. You learn so much about Global Climate Change, and he helps you out whenever you need it. Be sure to answer reflection questions, and come to class with the powerpoint printed, ready to take notes.

I had Professor Dobson last term and realized I never gave him the review he deserves. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! He works really hard the entire class to teach you all you need to know. If you take good notes and pay attention, you will do well. I learned so much. When I see him in the hallways he still remembers me and is always happy to chat. :)

This was one of my favorite classes that I've taken. Dobson was really down to earth and his teaching was really straight forward and was easy to understand. There is no textbook for this class, so it's really important to attend the lectures, but the content was super interesting. Take good notes and pay attention to the lecture and you'll be good

I had this prof during covid. Class was completely online. He told us to expect a better grade in this class than if it were in person. No book used. Class consisted of reading questions twice a week on the powerpoints given. Powerpoints were very basic and straight to the point. 3 exams. 1 was cumulative. Exams were sort of hard, deff study.

Professor Dobson was so kind and caring. He understood that Bio 120 is generally a more difficult class so he makes sure that the students know he is there to help. He also takes the time to get to know each one of his students. Science is typically a hard subject for me but he made it so accomplishable.

Professor Dobson is awesome! He is very caring and helpful- definitely cares about your success. I learned so much in the class, especially about global climate change. The course is set up in an organized and simple way. Take him if you can!

Professor Dobson put in the time to help us succeed. Be sure to read the textbook after each lecture section and make sure you understand the concepts in his notes. If you study like he recommends and put a decent amount of time into reading the textbook you will do great. He even gives example exam questions after each lecture.

Prof. Dobson cares about his students & genuinely wants everyone to succeed. His expectations are clear & reasonable. As long as you participate, complete the reflection questions & concept map after each class, youll be fine. If you do those three things, there are no surprises on the exams. I learned so much & really enjoyed this class!

If you want a great Bio 120 Professor, Dobson is it. But if you want an EASY professor, look else where. Class required reading from book and slides heavily. He gives good feedback. RQS every Tuesday and Thursday. Exams are straight from the power points.

My favorite professor so far! He is very interactive with students and has several ways of explaining things that will stick in your brain. He teaches different from all other BIO 120 professors I know and makes his own content instead of doing everything online. Highly, highly recommend!

Dobson is phenomenal! He is so knowledgeable, caring, and reasonable with the workload. I never felt like he assigned too much work and he was always willing to go over things that were confusing as many times as needed. I have truly learned so much from him and absolutely recommend taking him - one of my fav GVSU profs!

Prof Dobson is an amazing and super helpful prof. He understands 120 is difficult and is helpful by telling the class what to study or not during lectures. Tests follow his notes and does give back points on every test. Don't ignore the RQs before class, they are a great way to study. Follows textbook and allows 3 notecards on tests. Awesome prof.

I LOVE Professor Dobson! He may be my favorite professor at GV. Science is not my subject but he honestly made me excited to teach science. He gives great lectures and is very clear on what you need to know for each exam. So sad he's retiring after this semester. Overall a great human being!
