You have to study all the time and really master the material. I studied a lot more in this class than any other class I have taken and got a C in the class. I usually get A's in all my other classes. Most people dropped out of this class.

He is such hard teacher. There are long reading assignments. He gives random pop quizzes. The final and midterm are fill in the blank, a matching portion and long essay. If youre looking for an easy class, then stay away from him.
he ie really hard and you have to spend alot of time syudying
I would suggest not taking this proffesor. I got a B in this class when i usually get all As and I stuied a whole lot for this class
Professor Drake is a wonderful storyteller! He made history come alive for me. His tests are difficult because he expects you to know the material and know how to write essays. If you don't skip classes and review your notes after ea class, then you'll have it made.
He's not easy. Surprisingly I missed him when he was not able to continue teaching due to illness... He made me like history... Although I probably would have failed the class had he stayed, I would have enjoyed it more and learned A LOT more!
Chris Drakes class is very hard! He is totally over the top. If I had one word to describe him it would be "inappropriate" from his examples to his language. I did learn a lot in the class, but his choice of words are easily offensive. I would not recommend this professor!
he is really hard and i would not take him, the only reason that i passed his class is because he had a heart attack and we got a sub who passed everyone.
I took History with this teacher and I have never had such a hard teacher as him. No matter how much I studied it was never enough to get an A or even a B, most of the students failed his class. He enjoyed teaching, yes, but he was sometimes rude. I would not recommend this teacher because he made me hate history class!!!
he is very hard teacher, storyteller, talks very fast I never seen a teacher harder than him do not take any class from drake or else u will became sick.
He is a very difficult teacher, he expects perfect tests. Be prepared to repeat the covered material word-for-word in your responses to test questions otherwise expect to get a D on most tests. He had a heart attack half way through the class and couldn't teach the rest of the semester. That's the only way I passed the class.
He is a very good teacher IF you are willing to learn, participate and work hard. Making good lecture notes is crucial if you want to pass this course. He teaches like they do at university and expects 100% input from students. I'm an international student (English is not my primary language) and I had to work hard for this class but I made an A.
This is a hard teacher and I had to work hard but he's very entertaining. He will make history come alive. Be prepared to take good notes, you'll need them for the test. Don't forget to include something from the readings in the essays to get an A. Of all the teachers I've had, I learned the most from him.
He'll start the lecture on a smooth pace, but soon after jumps to stories, and sometimes over non helpful material. He lectures at a incredible rate. I do not recommend this prof!
He is hard, but I liked him. I hope to find myself in another classroom being taught by him. He challenges you, and has high expectations, but gives you the tools to suceed.
Took in summer huge mistake. Had a family emergency and missed one class had to drop immediately. No multiple choice anything!! Lectures way to fast but seems like a really nice guy. Also be prepared to buy 3 books!!!! do not reccomend.
Very hard, but if you work hard and honestly, you can make an easy A. His class is really animated and very interesting even if you dont want anything to do with history. You NEED to take really good notes.
Professor Drake is the hardest teacher i've ever had.. You have to take very good notes and actually study them or it will be extremely hard to do good on his tests. Sometimes he goes a bit fast in his lecture but he covers previous stuff the beginning of each class. Very challenging professor.
this mans class is extremly hard
This man has a great sense of humor but with his grading, it is not funny.
Professor Drake is a very nice man, has a really great sense of humor, and an awesome knowledge of history. His test material comes directly from your notes, and a bit from the book. YOU MUST go to class and take good notes! Write whatever he says, and memorize the essays. Then, and only then, will you get an A.
He likes to hear himself talk but doesn't make a lot of sense.
I do not recommend this professor to anyone that wants to pass! I studied really hard and could only manage to get a c.
I wouldn't recommend this professor. He's pretty funny, but his tests and quizzes are hard. Most of them were essays and short-answer types. No multiple choice. Only less than 10 people remained in the class at the end of the semester, including myself.. and I still failed.
hE IS VERY INTERESATING BUT DIFFICULT. WHILE HE EXPECTS ALOT HE GIVES LITTLE HELP. WHILE HE DID OFFER IT IT WAS TO LATE. ATTEND RELIGIOULY AND DO NOTHING BUT STUDY HAVE NO LIFE AND YOU MIGH PASS. HE INSULTEDED STUDENTS ENOUGH TO IF THEY WERE NOT AMERICAN HE SUGESSTED TO DROP HIS CLASS. STARTED WITH 17 ENDED WITH 5 WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU THIS GUY I
I liked him a lot. He is a very demanding teacher because he expects you to explain in detail and to know the material. He is funny as HECK, and that made his hard class tolerable. Whenever I needed help, he helped me. I would recommend him, but if you are lazy and just skim what you are supposed to read, he is not for you.
LET ME MAKE THIS AS CLEAR AS POSSIBLE... DON'T TAKE ANY CLASS THIS GUY TEACHES
Very smart && funny. But his test we very very hard. do not take him unless you wanna fail. DO NOT TAKE HIM
THIS PROFESSOR IS VERY DEMANDING. HE EXPECTS A LOT FROM YOU. I DONT RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR TO SOMEONE WHO LIKES TO SLACK OFF. STUDYING IS VERY MANDATORY IN ORDER TO PASS. I COULDN'T HANDLE ALL THE WORK, ENDED UP HAVING TO DROP OF ! LESS THAN 10 STUDENTS WERE LEFT IN THE CLASS BY THE END OF THE SEMESTER !
I do not recommend this professor. I work very hard to get at least a B on the quizes and end up getting all F's. I learn from this class but my hard work was useless because he expects you to know evrething. I drop his class like most of the students.
He dresses pretty hip, he has vans and cool sandals and ripped jeans. His outie was interesting but anyway the class wasn't that hard, you just have to take good notes, study them and do a little bit of individual research. His tests are mostly from what he teaches in his lectures so if you miss a class you will fall behind. overall, study and pass
Arrogant and sarcastic teacher who likes to prove that he knows more than you. His lectures are ok but his tests are impossible. 2 people passed the first test with D's and the rest of the class made under a 30! He couldn't care less; he just said do better next time. DO NOT TAKE HIM! He tests too hard and expects you to know all. He shouldnt teach
Too many readings, and the test was hard. Don't take his class.
Excellent teacher. Really knows his facts and it was great hearing his lectures. I learned a lot from him and found it interesting, but he's a very hard grader. The tests are difficult and require a lot of textbook reading and note taking/studying.
The professor is terrible. His exams are impossible. I spent days preparing for his exams and it didn't do any good. People like him have no business being teachers.
His class requires 3books and is for tests, quizies, and finals. You will have to finish three of them in order to pass his class. Extremely Hard tests, and quizies. He cuss in class, not very polite, and writes terriable. He could be funny in some ways. I attend his class almost everyday I found it very difficult. He gives bad notes.
He's a very funny teacher. Can be offensive at times. The tests are impossible. PICK ANOTHER TEACHER LOL
Hard Grader!
A good teacher, lots of study time required.
Great teacher. Really glad I took him for a second semester. He dropped the required text, so the tests are much easier. Just show up, take notes and study. Much easier second time around.
great teacher! hard to read his hand writing when he writes on the board but thats his only flaw.
lovely teacher, will be taking his history 1302 class!
The first half of this class was probably the hardest. After the first test/drop date he eases up alot on his grading. No multiple choice/word banks to work with, just fill in the blank and essay. Even if you cannot rememeber specific names/places/events if you describe them you still get credit. He is an intresting professor/fun to listen to.
Great Prof. Is difficult at first but tests and exams get easier as the semester progresses.
please do not take this class!!!horrible teacher!!seriously, no joke!!
I would suggest that no one takes his class, unless you like wasting money. Half way through, more than half of the students dropped the course. Only two people passed the first exam... out of no more than 25 people. Talked to his kid, said majority of his students don't like him as a teacher/teaching style. Done ranting now. Save your money
This professor is very difficult. His tests DO NOT get easier as the semester progresses. For the Summer session, there were 3 tests where 1 of the first 2 is dropped. 1 Book test. No cumulative final. He has interesting knowledge but tests are TOO hard! Half the class dropped out in the end. And his quizzes are impossible to make an A.Avoid him!
At the beginning it was hard to comprehend but as time went on, he was easy. He really know History. One good thing abt him is you know where the tests are coming from. He will tell you. Easy to get A's but pls don't miss his class coz you will be doomed. He doesn't really care if you miss but everyday he gives important material which may be in tes
i TOOK AP HIST IN HIGH SCHOOL SO I KNEW ALOT OF THE MATERIAL ALREADY BUT MANAGED TO FAIL DO NOT TAKE!!!
IF you want an A with this guy: 1) Take notes! distilled them in an outline and MEMORIZED them for tests (4-5, 1pg long 2)Forget the textbook he will use it for 2-3 questions in tests 3)Make an A in quizes by not over thinking. 4)Answer and memorized study book test sheet. memorize->regurgitate=A+
Absolutely terrible. Made us buy a book he wrote (awful!) and didn't get it to us until the end of the semester. Only gave us a week to read it and then tested us over it. Got off topic very easily so he was hard to follow in his lectures. Very rude to students at times. Also quizzed us over a text reading a month later because he forgot about it..
very nice person
Very great teacher. Gives you a great laugh once in a while. Attendance is a must since tests are 95 percent based on lectures. All you need to do is study the notes in class and read the book he wrote. I recommend this teacher if you are serious about school. The main text wasn't necessary at all.
Do not take this teacher...each test is 8 chapters...which he does not give a study guide...and he gives 8 potential essay questions that he spends all of class covering...Test questions have nothing to do with class material...do not take please
Attend class and pay attention. Everything you need to know to pass is simply in every note you take down. If you do not take good notes or you're looking for an easy pass, do not take him. He does not take bs work because you can't pull the wool over history. Still, made history interesting and tells good stories. Got a B
Save yourself the stress and hassle and find another teacher. This guy is all about lectures (don't get me wrong, they were interesting, but...). It'd be a good idea to attend every class because if you miss one, it's like your 3 weeks behind in work. He's just really tough, and difficult. Not going lie, but kinda intimidating.
His lectures were very interesting, but his tests do not match up with his teachings. I do not recommend this teacher unless grades are not a big deal for you. 80 percent of the starting students dropped this class by the end of the semester. Unfortunately I was brave enough to get a F. He's very picky when it comes to writing.Prepare to write long
I had no interest in history before taking his class, but now I have renewed interest. Use CAUTION with this prof though. Make sure to take good notes and pay ATTENTION to his lectures. His handwriting is bad, so just listen to him. VERY hard grader. You better study for this class! Good teacher, but a lot of students dropped.
This professor is not extremely hard as many people portray him. I took him in a summer class and I passed all his quizzes and tests. I'm typically an A student but made an B in his class with lots of study. He's a good teacher just a harsh grader, so elaborate everything and you'll do decent. But this class is really hard to get an A in, no joke.
He sort of resembles Benjamin Franklin, lol! His lectures are funny and interesting. You must attend every class and take thorough notes! Do not leave out any details! His exams are based off of his notes not the text book! during summer mini text q's were bonus credit. takes LOTS of studying. I earned a B. I suggest take summer mini. Less material
Very good teacher. Knows the material very well & is funny so if you who don't like history, he does make it fun. I took summer 1 w/ him & got an A but it takes some serious commitment. Best advice i can give is to take really good notes & record his lectures so you can fill the gaps in your notes & because his tests are based on the lecture.
SAVE YOUR LIFE, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Knows his stuff, Awful handwriting but makes history relatively entertaing. Eccentric humor
Mr Drake is hard professor, but it possible to get a good grade.(I go a B)You just have to study VERY hard. If you a foreign student DO NOT TAKE HIM, because then first half of semester you will not understand what he is talking about.=)If you are not ready to study hard do not take him.But again it is possible to get A or B
Great professor. He really knows his material. I thoroughly enjoyed taking his class even though my GPA suffered :( Clearly my grade doesn't reflect what I have learned in the class. I can tell just in my personal thoughts and in conversations Ive maintained a lot BUT his tests are killer and it took me three of them to learn his style.Tough Grader
Great and serious teacher, makes history fun material. I learned a lot from him, very clear, tough grader.
Sure he can be funny and at times makes the lectures interesting but I'd pick a different professor if I had to do it all over again. He makes students buy 3 books, gives a lot of quizzes, his tests that are essay format, and he's a tough grader! I studied very hard and barely got a B.
Im a currently taking him for History 1301 over the summer. He is very intelligent and knows his stuff. But has awful handwriting, and is a very hard grader! He doesn't go along with the book. The notes you take in class is what you have to memorize by heart. If you want a challenge take him, if not don't!
This guy was the first college class I've ever failed. He grades harshly, and your test grades depend a lot on your notes. If you're not the kind of person that takes good notes or doesn't like to study a lot, this probably isn't the class for you. And it doesn't help if you have no interest in history already...
His classes were ok.He interacted with the students a lot but he failed to use a language that was clear enough. Most of the time heseemed a bit confused and unorganized.Maybe it was due to it being a summer course, but i barely got my C.And i got a 25 on the first exam.
One of the coolest teachers I have ever known- extremely intelligent and very funny. His tests were nearly impossible to pass, he grades very, very harshly. He does no multiple choice questions on tests, just questions in an essay format.
Great Prof. I failed the first test but thats it!! Made A's on all the others. He lectures the whole time so all you have to do is take notes. Thats all thats on the test. Very intelligent man. Loved this class!! Only hard if you dont know how to take notes and study them. I made an A in both of his classes. Wish he taught other classes.
Highly intelligent and engaging. One of the best classes I have ever had. One of those who actually teach you the subject matter and values your understanding of it. Boring would be the last word to describe his teaching methods.
DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WANT AN A. His teaching is good. It's sometimes confused because he doesn't teach like book. You have to take many notes. He said if we can give him back all the things he teaches, then we'll get B. If we want to get A, we need to have other knowledge that we know or read from the book. But it isn't easy to get B either.
He is HORRiBLE! Any info in the textbk is practially irrelevant to the tests. you HAVE to take a lot of notes & copy what he writes on a chalkboard; his handwriting is not legible what so ever. worst of all, 50% of each test was based on a very complex & harshly graded essay. I thought I had signed up for history, not advanced literature, right?!
He is also mean, know that all tests are based 100% on lecture & notes.I excessively studied the textbk for the first exam,& then failed it dramatically. He called me aside after class to falsely tell me I didnt study & wasnt trying. It made me cry.Dont even waste ur $ on the book because it's not needed. In fact don't waste any time or $ on the class
This Teacher was Horriable we started with 35 by the 3rd week we had lost 6 students already, He was not consistant with his work, he didnt grade the work correctly, it was very borring he just talked and talked and you can hardly understnd what he is saying very horriable teacher. I by far wouldnt reccomend, my counselour Insisted I drop.
His class is completely awful. He is sarcastic and he doesn't make it clear what it is he wants written in his test essay questions. He is a lazy grader and goes out of his way to ridicule students. Do not take his class.
Find another teacher. He gives study questions & very clear but that doesn’t matter because the things he tell u he won’t ask u. Study question not on the test. He is the hardest g8er I have ever taken. He assigned 4 mandatory books but he only asked 1 question the entire course out of the book. U will learn N this class but u will NOT pass.
You have to literally write down absolutely everything his says and go home and memorize the information in order to pass his tests. I got C's on absolutely everything and I STUDIED. He seems like an fun and interesting guy but he is way too hard for a required class. I understanding grading this hard for a history major but not for freaking 1301
This teacher was almost impossible to pass, he will ruin your GPA. His study guide is only a list of questions for the essay and he bases his test mostly off of his lectures but he will slip in about 3 questions from the book. You will be lucky to get a C.
it was a very hard class. the teacher gets way off topic and gives us unreasonable things such as bg information, quotes, etc. no one cares. plus he makes you swear.test was hard &one of the answer was social gospel of wealth but he put an X on mine saying its "social gospel" same thing!!! luckily i made a B and helped my friend pass with a C.
I am writing this in defense for Prof. Drake. Yes, this is not your high school history class taught by coach, but by a passionate, well educated, ehthusiacistic PROFESSOR. He wants you to succeed and to learn something about history. Very fascinating stories and antidotes. However,if you are taking 3 or more classes, this class might be a bit much
Very good professor, helpful. His exams aren't the easiest, but take him if you're interested in the subject.
Professor Drake is probably the best teacher I have ever had. He is not conventional and his goal is not for you to get a great grade without putting in the work. His goal is to make sure you take something from this class. And you WILL if you are actually serious about your education. I don't think I will ever forget what I learnt in his class.
Do NOT take him! He is a hard grader. Gives you information you dont need and has super messy hand writing that you can't read! I would not recommend him. He's way to hard. Most people pass with a C or D.
While he is a difficult grader, I feel I have learned more about U.S. History with Professor Drake than I have in 13 years of school. He is very knowledgeable about the material, and provokes interesting discussions and uses engaging anecdotes. He may seem unapproachable, but if you send him an email he is very accommodating. I highly recommend it!
Professor Drake obviously knows his History but his class may be hard to handle. He does not use power points so you HAVE to listen/pay attention to his lectures or else you miss the main points to answer the essay questions. His tests are based off the notes you take during class. This class requires a lot of time and dedication to pass.
I haven't completed this class yet, but I can tell that Drake is a really tough grader. He is strict and he gave me a C on my quiz, although I studied quite hard! I'm really worried about my exams. His saving grace is that he seems relatively approachable so I will really try to work with him this semester. Communication helps sometimes.
Professor Drake is great when it comes to teaching the subject matter. His lectures are interesting and keep you engaged. HOWEVER, he is a RIDICULOUS grader. On top of that, he likes to argue with you if you ask about the grade you received and does not give constructive feedback. Would not recommend this professor unless your a history nerd.
Day 2 I immediately regretted taking his class. Good professor, however, if you're taking 3+ classes (like me) the workload is WAY TOO much! Lots of independent reading! Half of test is essay prompt based on your lecture notes, no multiple choice. Short answer quiz. No study guides. Be prepared to WORK hard for an A!
He is not in the business of walking you through a "core class" he will grade by your actual understanding of the topic. If you want an easy A find someone else. If you want to know the whole story of how this country formed, who formed it, and how it became what it is today, this is the class for you. Poli-Sci, His, Law majors, this is your class.
He has an amazing southern accent and such whimsical colloquialisms. He can be a little heavy handed in how he speaks to people, but overall he is a very cordial teacher. He is very thorough and not some crazy, conservative-skewed historian. I honestly loved his class and am taking his for 1302.
His grading is RIDICULOUSLY hard, BUT I really appreciate his lectures, i have learned lots from them. The readings were not too bad, i just procrastinated too much.
tests are too unreasonable
The lectures are pretty interesting, but the tests are really hard. Reading is definitely mandatory. His tests consists of matching, fill in the blanks, and an essay. You can't skip class or else you'll fail, simple as that.
Unreasonable grader. Tests are extremely hard. Getting an A is almost impossible, you'll be lucky to get a B.
Professor Drake knows what he is teaching, he is passionate about history. His exams demand a lot from you but honestly, i barely read the book. I took good notes and did my essay questions ahead of time and had him give me feedback on them. He is there to help you if you seek him. He doesn't give grades, you earn them!
He gives really low grades. The highest grade in my class is a C.
He is rude and does not like to repeat his self. He does not write/make any kind of notes, and when he decides to write on the board, it is all sloppy. If you ask him if he can repeat what he said he WILL refuse to and move on. He simply doesn't care about his students. Had to withdraw because it was super hard and the professor made it 10x worse.
Test: Easy, I get A twice. Quiz: Hard as hell. Book Test: Also same as quiz. In class: Easy going, explain really well. If you have question he will explain it really clearly. At the end: He really generous, especially if you do not know what do you want to put, he will give you 50 (even thought it is fail, but at least you still have a score)
He was the worst professor I've taken. Does not help students at all, he literally lectures, won't write any sort of notes, and if you ask him if he can explain something or if he can repeat something he said, he will totally say no. Even when I personally asked him for help, he would not help, all he said was "you should ask a classmate" Had to W
He is very passionate about history. His class may not be the easiest to take but you will definitely learn from him. I think he is an amazing teacher. Be prepared to study hard and don't miss any notes!
Drake is an outstanding professor. He teaches only what you need. If take good notes (I recommend you record his lectures) then you will pass. However, if you miss a class or you don't pay attention and if you're taking 5 classes then this class isn't for you. Be prepare to study. I will take him again for 1302.
He is a very tough grader, tough essay exams with no reviews, goes fast on his lectures, does not write on the board, speaks fast.
He's the toughest professor by far. Not because of his teaching, he is an amazing lecturer and hilarious all the time. The only let down is his grading and checking an his short answers, he is really really tough grader and always wants more than the question itself. also you need to answer it in his terms or ready to get an F
He talks a lot but a majority of the stuff he says is on the test, he doesn't write that much on the board just talks and you write as he talks. he is a great teacher tough grader he is a sarcastic, funny professor.
Worst professor at HCC. Super passionate about history, has interesting lectures. But he grades as if you are history major, you might get an answer correct but if you haven't listed a certain amount of details (even though that number of details wasn't specified) he marks it as incomplete or writes "AND?". Do not take Chris Drake. Do not Take him.
Don't really need your textbook at all. Tests are clearly explained at the beginning of each section so you have questions to follow along with lectures throughout. As long as you take good notes you're set he lets you use them on the tests and the final. The book test isn't very hard but I do recommend not putting it off too late to start reading.
HIS CHECKING IS HORRIBLE!! AND YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE BEST NOTES TO EVEN HAVE A CHANCE TO PASS HIS CLASS. NO POWERPOINTS, STRAIGHT AMAZING LECTURES AND YOU HAVE TO KEEP UP WITH HIS PACE. HE IS AN AMAZING GUY WITH A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR BUT YOU HAVE TO STAY ON HIS GOOD SIDE AND STUDY YOUR BUTT OFF TO PASS HIS QUIZZES AND EXAMS.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! Hardest professor I have ever had. He lectures the whole time, no power points, no notes. Test are super hard!
He is so passionate about U.S history and is so hilarious.I would recommend his class for native speakers. If English is your second language, I would not recommend his class, unless you are well-prepared for your English, especially for answering essay questions. Be ready to organize your notes well. Taking voice recordings will be very helpful.
He is very tough.
He's pretty funny and his lectures are interesting. I love the way he's passionate about History. If you take notes, you'll be fine. Handwritten is better because he lets you use handwritten notes on tests and exams. If you do type, like I did, make sure you write out the notes before the exam b/c it'll help A LOT. He's a tough grader on papers.
Prof Drake does not get enough recogniztion! I learned more about US History taking his class than I have .. well ever. He is a very tough grader, but for good reason. His lectures are informative, you CAN & SHOULD record his lecture. Take good PAPER NOTES, they are allowed on tests. There is a book report, it will count as a test grade! Goodluck
Learned more about US history from Professor Drake than I have from anyone else. He is a very tough grader but he wants you to do well. If you take good notes and pay attention in class you will be fine. Make sure you read all the hand outs he gives you because there will be a quiz over it. Tests are easy if you take good notes/read the textbook
I don't really like to reading books. But, took him I gotta buy 8 books. Waste lots of money. Then, he is too horrible to keep sitting his class. Me and three of my boys had to dropped. I mean if you take him, hold on to buy books. You shouldn't buy books, but then drop classes like me!
Great professor- very passionate and knowledgeable about history. His classes arent easy As and you will have to read the textbook and the assigned reading. He only teaches by lectures, no powerpoints & doesnt write on the board. Really important to take thorough notes as he lets you use them on his tests. Overall, a great class and learned alot
I would not take this class again. Very bad handwriting. You can feel the tension in the room just by the way he talks to his students. I'm sure I can speak for the class by saying no one wants to ask him questions because he will come back with a rude response. Nothing but reading reading reading. Might as well take the class online.
This Professor knows his history and is very funny. However, his tests are impossible to pass! The essay is worth fifty points and he gives minus 30 or 20 points for writing down info he told us in class! Over half of the class dropped.
He lets you take notes in class, but subtracts your marks if you write down what he taught you in class. What he said are in the text book, yet he fails you for writing it in test. Too bad!!! More than half class withdrew. Can't even read his writing on the board.
Take notes , tough grader on test. questions and essay for test and quizzes. book essays are required in this class. if your not familiar with US history read all you can. he was a good professor but lectures and test are graded heavily.
Impossible to earn anything more than a C in this class. Do everything right on the exam and he will nit-pick the essay until you have a C. Cannot win in this class. Do not take!!
I took him for a four-week class over the summer. I've had the worst experience. He has nothing on his canvas page. He doesn't give concrete instructions so I have had to email him multiple times. I have written over 8 essays already and I am working on my final exam which is an additional 3 essays. He is extremely hostile in emails. Don' take him!
Please do not take this professor. Save yourself some time and money. He is a super hard grader, even if you answer the question correctly and to completion. He is not reasonable and will not help you out. Gives harsh criticism that is not helpful or insightful. I repeat, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
I took online classes with the Professor Drake. He just posted the assignments, but the instructions are not clear. I had to ask to my classmate about it and emailed to him several times. I had a bad experience because I wrote like 12 essays. I have never receive a grade on Canvas or feedback. I felt lost because the instructions are not clear.
I just finished a 5 week course with him and he told me my work was egregious and I deserved an F. I was so frustrated because he never communicated anything with us that I decided to review him on here. Lo and behold, a number of my classmates have also taken the opportunity to warn others of this professor. Do yourself a favor and steer clear.
Terrible teacher, never take his online class.
Worst grading criteria
His whole course is just broken up into 4 exams that are 25% of your grade each. He gives you messy study guides that barely help you. Each exam is just giving you 7 essay prompts and answer 3 of them. He just says answer them in a "essay format". Does no lectures and only gives you the study guides and exams and says Good Luck! Avoid. Save ur self
I am in the middle of the semester in this class and I havent felt so hopeless in my whole journey of schooling. I have tried to email him multiple times for clarification on my assignments but no response! I had to email my classmate for help. He is a very tough grader and gives no feedback to help for future essays in this class! DO NOT TAKE!
Teacher was terrible only three assignments and all of them were essay exams. He didnt really give us format on how he wanted the essays to be written and how long he wanted the essay to be. His feedback is just terrible he didn't make it clear on what he wanted on the essay or what you did wrong on the essay. I dont recommend this teacher.
All he gives is 4 essays that are 25% of your grade each. He gives a "guide" for the essays but they are pointless so you are basically set up for failure. My first essay was 3 pages long and I received a 75 and then for the second essay I wrote 15 PAGES and got a 78!! He is so picky about the essays, it's like he doesn't want his students to pass.
you get 4 essays each worth 25% of your grade. He doesn't specify word count or essay format and once you turn in your essay he heavily focuses on grammar and corrects you on meaningless things. I got points taken off for writing "anti-war" he said the correct word is "opposed", both mean the same. Don't take this class, even a C is hard to get.
Stay away from Dr. Drake if you're going to take history at HCC! I took him in spring 2020 in person. This professor is very difficult to pass history in his exams. Even after transitioning to online due to COVID-19, he never graded anything on Canvas after the exams were due. Fortunately, with pass/fail option, I elect no credit from this course.
Do yourself a favor and do not take this professor
I didn't learn anything, and his study guides are not grammatically correct nor appropriate. I am going out of my way to rate him because he is so terrible. I got constant C's. He made jokes in his feedback, which were nothing other than what was grammatically wrong. The entire course was 4 papers. It is entirely too stressful, find someone better.
Do not take this class I don't even know why he has 3 stars. I wish I could give him 0. Does not take the pandemic into consideration. He doesn't even say anything in the announcements. He changed the due date last minute and now we only have a few days to write 4 essays. Even if he is your last option do not take him. Do not be fooled by the 3/5.
Please do yourself a favor and don't take this class. This class was literally the worst, I didn't learn anything, I was more stressed. You only have four assignments all essays that are worth 25% . You have no resources but the textbook and the internet. He's feedbacks on the essays are not helpful and simply useless. Even to get a C is hard.
This professor is the worst professor Ive ever had to deal with. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! He is a rude and condescending! Hes a tough grader that fails to give useful feedback. Hes super unapproachable and non-helpful. You cannot go to him for guidance because he makes you feel stupid. Also, he does not provide with with any useful resources.
this prof was the worst prof I have ever taken. No matter how hard you work you will not receive an A in his class. I wrote 11-15 pages for each essay and received a C for every one of them. He is also extremely unhelpful and will not help you through the course. I followed his outlines word for word and barely passed.
The homework/exams are just 3 essay exams and a book test. No online meetings or anything. His feedback isn't very helpful. For example, some of his comments on specific sentences are simply '?' or '!!'. So yeah not entirely clear. Just expect to go near word for word with his study guide. Seems like a funny guy though at least :-/
I wish that I would have reviewed the comments about this professor before I took his class. Instead of basing my opinion on how his lecture was setup with no assignments just month exams. FYI viewers of this comment, please do not take his class if you want to pass
Do not register under his class, he expects students to be amazingly talented writers and grades papers harshly. His instructions are also unclear which makes the assignments 10x harder.
Would give 0 if possible. There are only 4 exams to earn a grade with. No assignments, just essay exams. You'll be forced to buy a textbook that you won't need. The answers aren't in the textbook. Most of my classmates did poorly as he gives no clear instructions.
Professor Drake is by far the worst instructor or educator I have ever had. He grades incredibly hard and provides very little instruction. His instructions and study guides are unclear. The feedback he provides on your exams is not constructive and very vague. The questions on the exams do no align with book chapters he assigns.
Barley any feed back on our exams. Very hard to please. I have a 35 on two of my exams already, I am not passing this class
Just a really bad professor who doesnt care about helping students learn. Its that simple . He provides no constructive feedback on essays and I am really surprised that he still has a job. Thats how had he is at the one that he has now. See all of the other remarks that describe how unattached he is and obviously unaware how much he sucks.
This professor is so annoying, I tried so hard to pass this class and had to drop it due to how hard of a grader he is. Keep in mind I made it to the deans list every year so I am not a lazy or bad student and yet for every exam so far I have made a 35% and this is the class I have tried the hardest in. 10/10 DO NOT TAKE THIS CLOWN.
After getting a failing grade on the first assignment I tried many times to reach out. Those attempts were failures as he short answered with "read the instructions". He is rather rude and very unclear in what is expected for each assignment. Seems obvious but when you do what it says you get a failing grade and no guidance in bettering anything.
I'm a student who cares for students' success. If some of you are failing his HIST classes, then I suggest you to drop from his class on or before the last day to drop date, because how very hard grader he is. I failed his class first as he didn't grade anything on Canvas during pandemic. Very hard to pass his class, nearly impossible 4 an A or B.
The reviews are real. Beware! I thought id give him a chance anyways. I dropped out after the 1st exam was graded. (I Failed) Keep in mind his 3 tests are based on written analysis, and book assignment that I paid for nothing. You will learn nothing from him. I love history (history nerd). But this class was too high of a risk and little reward.
This professor was horrible!! He only give four tests which are essay. He gives you a review with points that you have to include in the paper, but the review was so confusing because most of it was not in the assigned textbook. I drop the class. Do not waste your time!!!!
This professor is too much to take for very difficult exams & how hard grader he is. Be wary that he is very picky in grammar when it comes to writing (i.e. no sentence fragments)! Stay away from him if you want to pass HIST@HCC! His classes are nearly impossible to get an A/B on. I couldn't understand what he wrote onboard 4 his quick handwriting.
Be wary! If you're going to take his class in person, he does not use Canvas, so avoid him if you want to know what your grade is on any assignment, test, and exam! No credit at first. He's a very hard grader! His exams do not have multiple choice questions and the essay part worth half of the exam grade, making his exams so much difficult to pass.
Professor was not a help at all and did not respond to emails in time; especially since I had taken an "online-anytime" class which means there is no lecture and you just do the work that is posted. Professor had left very rude comments on papers reviews that made him sound unprofessional. I would consider this to be an English class instead.
This professor is very unprofessional. I am a student who is making an A in English and yet he still grades your papers as if this was a Writing/English class. He leaves comments that are unnecessary and is not helpful at all. Please read these reviews before choosing him as a professor. I feel so discouraged with this class.
this professor responds whenever he wants to and it's in a rude and condescending manner, I've never dealt with anyone like him. I wrote my essays based on the book for his class and study guide the best I got was 60. Not easy to pass, all my peers compared grades and the best was a 65. If you can, withdraw from this class.
He is a tough grader. I felt like this is the most difficult English composition class I've ever had.
This professor is so unclear with his instructions. The whole course consists of four total assignments with each one being 25% of your grade. 3/4 assignments are extremely long essays with very little guidance. The Reader Test he provides which is the 4th assignment was quite easy and was likely used to help people pass because thats how hard heis
I took professor drake for hist 1302, and for anyone wanting to take him. PLEASE don't this would be the worse decision of your life. He only has 5 assignments on his course and at first glance, you may think is easy but is not. Each assignment is a 3 question test in that you have to write a detailed essay for every question.Getting an A is hard
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!! In my previous 1301 class I received an A+ for this class I FAILED. Not only are the is there only 4 tests (which are essays) he is a tough grader almost no one got an A in the class and overall just grades essays tougher than most English professors.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR! He rarely gave any rubric or clear instructions for his exams(which are just 3 essays for each one). Basically failed the entire class on Exam 1 and the majority just had a few grammatical errors. He barely replies to any emails and his feedback is not the best. I have reported him, please avoid this professor at all costs.
His grading is so hard.
The reviews are true; he grades harshly and there are only four grades, which are "exams" that consist of three essays each. However, once you realize he just wants you to turn the outlines he provides into essays, it's pretty easy. Here's why I recommend him though: this class was not a time commitment. I spent maybe 20 hrs total on this class.
I would recommend taking someone else. He is not clear at all on what he is asking. He does not respond to emails. Rubric is not clear. Avoid at all cost. Literally do not take this class, i envy those who passed the first time.
Do not take this professor. I read all the chapters, and I did the outlines AS directed. I confronted him online and reported him to HCC from the beginning. NO ONE did anything. He is rude and has no teacher etiquette. He picks and chooses who he wants to pass.
DON'T ever take this professor's class. 95% of my class failed. He is more like an English teacher than history. He does not care about his students, does not respond to emails, and is very rude. PLEASE save your time and money.
Throughout the course, he was condescending toward students, frequently dismissing questions and comments. His teaching style disorganized and unhelpful, with little effort made to ensure that all were able to understand the material. His behavior was unprofessional + disrespectful and did not create a positive learning environment.
I took his class around 2013/14 or so. Very thought provoking lectures and the way he taught is the way history should be taught. He said he will never ask questions about what date an event in history happened, because he wanted us to understand "why" that event happened.
Tough grader, but if you follow his system it's manageable. The class isn't too time-consuming. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for essay prep.
the most condescending professors for grades he'll give you failing grades with no explanation I asked for a proper explanation as to why he'd just replay "didn't meet my requirements." and if you'd ask for further explanation he'd ignore you or say look at his outline. l literally followed every part like what exact requirements weren't met turd?
