He's interesting and energetic, passionate and knowledgable. Lots of quizzes/homework and 3 exams. There's a lot of material (c'mon, it's Western Civ), but he provides study guides, reminders. Definitely would take him again.

Great prof. 2 tests midterm nd final. Posts study guides so u know whats on them. 4 books to read, write papers on 3 of them. And a group presentation. Really knows his stuff.

This class was extremely interesting and exciting. It's a course on the history of basketball. There are 5 two page essays, a mid-term, final and random quizzes. The class is not easy because of the workload but rather the grading. Elzey is a very easy grader. Also he's very enthusiastic about what he teaches.

The class content was interesting and he is very good at lecturing. Great sense of humor. He gives study guides to show what is on the test. 3 exams, a paper, and multiple quiz grades. The issue I had with this class is that I believe it is far too much reading for a 100 level course.

Great class, great professor. 3 Tests, one paper, multiple quizzes. Quizzes are very easy. Expects a lot of detail in essay questions for tests but gives you a study guide with literally 90% of the test on it so it's not difficult. Took him in the summer 3 hours a day twice a week and never got bored, hes a great professor with great enthusiasm

He is such a great public speaker... he remembered all his students names and he is so considerate and respectful. LOVE

Chris Elzey is an awesome professor! His class is mainly powerpoint based and there is recommended reading but it is not mandatory. Make sure you go to class and take notes because he doesn't post online notes. He is a EXCELLENT speaker and is very friendly outside of the class environment! HE GIVES STUDY GUIDES FOR ALL TESTS!!. Easy and fun A :)

Great professor....3 tests and a couple pop quizzes. You get to choose to write 1 of 3 essays. Very good at explaining and liked amongst students

Dude's awesome. He has a way of turning history into a story which really grabs your attention, and you can relate to it better. He also loves sports, so he makes sports references frequently. One time he spun a basketball on a pen, that was sick

If you hate pop quizzes or attendance, don't take his class. He allows 2 absences, PERIOD. Any more than that only a school function will excuse it (even illness and hospital will not excuse). Also gives several pop quizzes, so keep up with your reading. Grades slightly harder than other teachers I've had. No extra credit. Helpful if you need it.

Took notes everyday on power points but he doesn't upload them on blackboard. COMPLETE AMD MEMORIZE THE STUDY GUIDES BECAUSE THEY ARE HELPFUL. FOR EACH EXAM. He's such a chill and nice teacher overall. He made history a very interesting subject. We also had class discussions but many students didn't really discuss.

I absolutely HATE history, but I am so glad I chose Prof. Elzey. You can tell this man loves his subject. He gives quizzes out of nowhere (so read!) and his lecture presentations aren't available on Blackboard. You only get 2 excused absences during the semester, and he requires you to write 1 of 3 papers. Overall, great class & great professor!

I never thought I would enjoy a history class until I met Elzey. He makes the lectures interesting! I never fell asleep which is crazy because it was a 9am lecture! I really did like professor Elzey. He certainly made you work for your grade though. I had to make dozens and dozens of notecards to even attempt to remember all of the terms he had on the test. Go to class, take good notes, and study off of the study guide. One thing about him... He knows his stuff and isn't a bad lecturer because of his enthusiam

I was in a previous history class that was already extremely difficult, and so I dropped and switched into this class. BEST IDEA. He is a really great teacher and knows his history. He makes lectures a little better with his enthusiasm. There are 3 major exams. The study guides do require memorization, but you'll ace the exam.

If you can imagine an AP World teacher that you really would want he is the one. The class feels like high school again with long lectures and movies that cover half the content you need to know. Tests are a challenge but passable if you study for them. Grading is relatively easy if you act like you put forth effort. I am not a history fan.

TAKE HIM! Hands down my favorite professor thus far. He makes an active effort to learn students names, and cares about your well-being in the class. Amazing orator and very easy to talk to. Only 3 exams and one paper, the study guide he posts is exactly what you need to know for the exam, although you have to memorize quite a bit. Fairly easy A.

I absolutely enjoyed this class. Yes you have to study for the tests but they really are not too hard. I never did the readings and I still managed to pass the few quizzes; skimming helps, too. Go to class! Sign in every class, easy way for credit. He is a great, caring, and funny guy and I would totally take more classes with him.

Take him. He was the best professorteacher i've has in a long time. He is very passionate on the subject he teaches and teaches it very well. His lectures give you a clear picture of history. Great professor when you are a freshman taking your first semester, as it will help you transition to your college life.

I have to say he's a nice guy thought I have no interest in history. You're expected to attend every class cuz he won't post the ppt on bb, and also there's a sign-in sheet every class. Three exams in total but not accumulative, there're studyguide for you to prepare for it, simply remember all the answers. His office hours are very helpful.

There are only 3 or 4 tests in the semester and a lower one in the beginning can be raised if you do well on the final. His lectures are partnered with slide shows that have a basic outline of the entire lesson. There are quizzes, but as long as you do the reading you'll pass easily.

He's really awesome. He used to be a professional basketball player. He makes the class very clear and easy as long as you read the book and study. He is very helpful and the class is clear and concise.

Came into this class with no desire to learn history whatsoever, but he makes it super interesting and comical. Great professor, comes to class prepared and ready to kick it off. Straightforward and legitimate guy. Attendance counts as a quiz grade. Sign up for him!

I hate history but loved this class! Elzey is very passionate about history and inspires you to like it too. He does assign readings, takes attendance, and 3 tests. He is tries to contribute to the different learning styles of students through comic books, movies, and small reads. I would take again

We had a number of quizzes, but he drops the lowest 2- which was very helpful. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. I already signed up to take another class with him next semester!

He has to be one of the best professors for history at Mason. I came into this class not taking it very seriously because it was a Gen Ed. However, I payed attention in his class and his lectures were surprisingly interesting! I usually don't like history but he really made the class interesting. It's not an easy A but you will learn a lot.

Elzey is a cool prof. If you're into history, he won't disappoint. Clear instructions for the paper and a well put together study guide. Exams are not a cake walk, but are manageable. Just go to class, take good notes, pay attention, put effort towards the paper and you'll pass with flying colors.

Passionate. Engaging. Interesting for someone who dislikes HIST. Doesn't post lectures. 3 test (gives study guide essentially 70% of test). 2 easy novels (checkout/borrow, don't rent/buy). 2 papers. "Pop" quizzes (drops lowest). Can get away w/o reading textbook (but READ). Go to class, READ, take notes, do study guide & study you'll get A.

I usually hate history but Elzey's lectures are so easy to listen to. He tell everything like a story. Sometimes you wonder if he was there. The tests are a little difficult but very easy if you memorize the study guide. MEMORIZE THE STUDY GUIDE! I recommended him to two of my closest friends and they love him as much as I do. Such a cool guy.

No textbook, but you do need to get and read 4-5 novels (apx 200 pages) which you are quizzed on and required to write short essay on at least two. Attendance is important, 2 exams (short answer and essay questions). Also a group presentation and paper. Nice professor, very informative, be prepared to take notes. Would take again.

He is very passionate with history, I myself are not that passionate but he really made things interesting. Make sure you do the review for the exams, its very helpful. It takes a lot of work and reading for this course but he is always offering for help during his office hours. Sidetone, he was a college basketball player and showed cool tricks!

There are 3 exams, 6 quizzes and 1 paper. Prof Elzey is very clear in his lectures and has been very accommodating for me this semester because of my disability. He's very understanding and encouraging. He truly wants his students to succeed. He posts study guides before tests but not for all quizzes. The tests are easy if you use the study guide.

Takes attendance which is strange for a class of 300 students. His lectures are not too boring but it is history so I was not very interested. He assigns readings and there are 3 test in a semester. He gives study guides and there is no reason not to do well if you study. There is also one paper you have to write, about 3-4 pages.

Prof. Elzey has a great sense of humor and his lectures are very laid back. He does count attendance no matter how large of a class you have. There are a few books to read, and you have to write a paper on one of them (of your choice). There are quizzes, but he drops your lowest grade. It's an easy class where you actually learn something from it.

Professor Elzey is by far the best lecturer I have ever had. His passion for history become obvious within seconds of his first lecture. I came to like history after taking his class.

Professor Elzey makes the lectures actually interesting and engaging. There is not tons of work and only one paper. I would caution anyone who doesn't read all assignments or attend every class though. If you don't do both of those things you are going to have a hard time getting a good grade.

Great lecturer, makes class pass relatively quickly. Makes it seem like he's telling a story rather than teaching a class. Decently funny. Fair grader, not overly easy but certainly not "tough" by any means. Good amount of reading, but not much hw beyond that.

Solid teacher. You can really tell he loves teaching. He posts study guides online so if you show up to lectures and make an effort to study it really shouldn't be hard. He also encourages improvement and offers extra credit if you do better than you did on your last exam.

Elzey is an absolutely phenomenal professor. He is so passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. His lectures are engaging and interesting. You do have to read the textbook, and the tests are just super memorization heavy, but I'd take him again in a heartbeat. He's absolutely amazing. Definitely take him if you have the chance.

I honestly loved this class so much that I went with my gut and switched my major to history. Professor Elzey teaches the class as if he is telling a story, and it is very engaging. The required books were so interesting, I didn't want to put them down. When you take Western Civ. make sure you get him as a Professor!

Elzey cares greatly about his students and will always be willing to help you. There is a somewhat substantial amount of reading and writing to do, particularly for his upper-level classes (which are mostly about sports and are awesome). He is a very fair grader and an entertaining lecturer. One of the best professors at Mason in my opinion.

Cool, caring, humorous guy. Lectures typically boring, unless you like history, with occasional interesting parts. A few novels to read and you have to write a paper on one but it's really easy. Quizzes ridiculously easy. You do not need to read the textbook at all, just memorize the study guide for the tests the night before. Tests not cumulative.

Loved this class, he was so passionate about the subject that he really draws you in and makes it interesting. His class was something I looked forward to and would definitely take again. His tests are fairly easy because he gives you all the possible terms and questions before hand. He also really cares about his students.

Great professor, he covers a lot of material in a short amount of time but he is not boring. There is a lot of opportunity to redeem a bad grade but there are no make up and attendance is mandator. He doesn't post his slides so if you miss it you have to get them from someone. All in all this was a great class. I would recommend

Professor Elzey is an amazing lecturer. He is always willing to go the extra mile to explain things for students who are struggling. His exams are moderately difficult, however he prepares you extremely well for them. I HIGHLY recommend taking this professor regardless of the subject matter. Prof Elzey is influential and an overall great person.

If you're not interested in history, I definitely recommend Elzey. Attendance is a quiz grade but he makes the class really interesting, you'll never be bored &actually love lecture. There is almost no homework. You do not need to read the textbook, so long as you pay attention in class and take great notes!! Three midterm tests, no cumulative exam. One paper. Elzey is a fantastic lecturer who makes the class interesting and engaging. He really cares about his students. Grading is clear but everything carries a lot of weight.

Prof Elzey is a good prof. The class consists of 3 exams He gives you a study guide for it. USE QUIZLET,1 paper on a book, there are 3 books you can choose 1 to write about, that was super easy. He expects you to read, his lectures help understand the material. I didn't go to class, I had a friend sign me In and I still passed using quizlet.

The exams 75% written, so study the material! Do not walk into an exam, not having gone to the lectures or read the textbook, expecting to pass. I am a biology major and I loathe history, but this professor made it more than tolerable. He cares about his students, and I would take it again. I didn't received anything below a B-.

He is my favorite history teacher. This is my second class taking with him. He is very passionate about what he teaches, making it very enjoyable. This class is a lot of reading and a lot of papers. There are 2 tests, but as long as you take note, do the study guide, and study, you should be fine. He's also a very lenient grader.

Awesome professor; lecture heavy but very interesting, throws in little anecdotes. Takes attendance but if you don't go you can catch up using the textbook. If you do go to class though you can get away with not buying the book. There are about 10 quizzes, 3 exams, and 2 papers. Overall, he's nice and has a cute personality - recommend

Class was lecture heavy, but Elzey made it very interesting. Attendance is mandatory and worth a quiz grade at the end of the sem. Doesn't put slides on BB. Very caring and knowledgable, but tests were difficult. He gives you a study guide with everything you need to know, though. Solid choice for HIST 100. If Orens is full, def take Elzey.

Prof Elzey is very knowledgeable and passionate about history, which makes his lectures quite interesting and enjoyable. If you show up to class, might not need the book. Gives a study guide, which tells you 80% of what you have to know for the exam, so if you do it, you should be fine. Exams are mainly short-long answers.

Professor Elzey is the most caring professor Ive met at GMU. His lectures are interesting and he adds in jokes as well to keep his students intrigued. The books assigned are easy to read and you only have to write about one of them. Quizzes are easy. Tests make sure you do the study guide he provided ahead of time. Best HIST professor IMO.

If you have the opportunity to take Professor Elzey's class, DO IT. He is the best professor at GMU. He knows his stuff and also plays videos in class. However, you do need to read the assigned books. Part of it also deals with group work. Each book has a quiz. He drops the lowest grade. He also provides a study guide for the exams, word for word!!

You need to go to the lectures because we didn't use a textbook, but they aren't boring. He talks with his students 1 on 1 before class starts just to be friendly and he learned everybody's name in the class of over 60 within the first week.

Elzey is one of the best professors I could've taken. He made things fun & easy to understand, although skipping a class means missing a lot of info (and he takes attendance). He gives almost all the answers to his tests and quizzes so study the docs and you're good, otherwise, without studying, they can be difficult. Not an easy A, but worth it.

Professor Elzey was very organized and his lectures and assignments correlated directly to the syllabus. If you prepare with the test study guides beforehand you should get an A. He does have an attendance sheet.

Professor Elzey is funny, witty, and really makes you see how it all unfolds in history. It's not just about what's in the bulletpoints, but his stories are incredible and he really takes you back to whichever time period he talks about. Do what he says to do for study, and come in with questions. His answers are always intelligent and meaningful!

Prof. Elzey is a good professor. The books we have to read are nice reads, and he goes into detail on a lot of things. The exams are a bit difficult, but the study guides he provides are helpful. However, if you're a history nerd, prepare to be bored often in class (it's a 100-level class though so what do you expect?)

Professor Elzey is amazing. I took two of his classes, history of sports and sports scandals. Very interesting classes. You will have to read a lot of books in these classes. Quizzes on them also. Midterm and final. Very easy. 1 presentation and paper. Just read and pay attention and you will do fine. Not hard at all.

Very respectable teacher. I really enjoyed the study guides he gave for the tests. Each test was: 20% multiple choice, 40% ID's, and 40% essay. The study guides give you a list of about 20 historical things (ID's) and he puts 5 on the tests, you choose 4 to answer. He gives you 6 essay questions and puts 3 on the tests, you choose 2 to answer.

Prof. Elezy's class for Western Civilization (HIST 100) was amazing. This class is a lecture class, so you need to be prepared to write good notes. Pay more attention to what he says during the lecture, but make sure to write the key points from the slides as well. Only read the required books, study the notes a little everyday and you will be fine

Good professor, I never bought the book just studied off of flash cards online and my notes from class. You really have to study the material to do good on the tests. Everyone in my class did good and he cares about your grade.

Interesting class, but wouldn't recommend as a casual elective. Elzey is accessible, respectful, and very knowledgeable, and overall a good professor. BUT the class requires you to read many articles, as well as like 5 books. Exams and quizzes are short answer/essays. Would recommend if you are very interested in sports and don't mind working hard.

this is just an intro class but it feel like an upper level.. His exams are easy but you have to work for it.. powerpoints are very vague, so if you dont take good notes you wont understand a thing. hes super knowledgable but don't take his class if you dont plan to show up. he passes a sheet for attendance in the beginning of class. easy, but work

Profesor Elzey was my favorite profesor this semester. He is such a great profesor, and he actually cares about his students. The lectures are very clear, and the study guides are very reflective of what you will see on the exams. If you study, fill out the study guides, go to class, take notes theres no reason you won't get an A.

I loooved professor Elzey! He has a deep passion for history and made coming to class worth it. Theres only 3 exams and 2 papers and a few quizzes. As a bio major, most of my courses are math and science heavy so it was nice to have a breather in between it all. I would definitely take him again.

Professor Elzey is someone who really cares about history and his students. He had amazing lectures and made them interesting. His assignments were easy and straightforward. Very inspirational and hands down one of the best if not the best professor in GMU. If you need to take History 100, he should be your first choice.

He's a good history prof. His lectures are interesting and are not boring. His ppts are not very detailed so pay attention to important things that he says and write them down (such as dates, events, etc) bc his tests are based on memorization. Study your notes and you'll do fine on the tests. This class also has required readings and papers.

I absolutely loved taking this class with Professor Elzey. His lectures are interesting and so much fun! You can tell he really enjoys teaching. He provides students with a study guide for each exam which include EVERYTHING on the exams. If you complete them for each exam, you're basically guaranteed an A in the class.

Elzey is the best! He definitely wants the best for his students, and he even will try to know the names of his students, despite his classes being fairly large. Whenever you struggle he will do his best to address the issue. His lectures are engaging, and he gives opportunities for improvement. 100% recommend!

During Covid it was a little hard to keep up with work because there was a lot of reading, but he did give you all of the possible questions for the exams in the beginning of the semester so you could answer them as you go. I don't particularly enjoy writing, but Professor Elzey has been an enjoyable instructor and does great lectures that are not very long, but genuinely interesting and informative.

Although I take work seriously, Professor Elzey makes it a little bit easier to engage with learning historical events (by quoting historical figures). But although there is a lot of reading, don't worry, it should be easy to engage. The real challenge is the long paper, it luckily was only one, but you are really pressed for time to complete it

He is a special one. Cares a lot for the students' success. Only bad thing is the amount of movies you have to watch and papers based off of the movies. Papers on books too. It felt more as an english class than a history class. He really is a great professor though. If you're willing to put in the work, it is an easy A. No textbook but readings.

(Covid) Although it seemed like there was alot of work to do, it really wasn't that bad and pretty easy. 2 exams, 1 long paper, weekly quizzes and db. Exams were written/short answer. Honestly, an easy grader. Heard my classmates got graded by the TAs and were not happy with their grade but they prob didn't put in the effort.

Chris Elzey is an inspiring orator that tells the story of western civilization as a gripping narrative. He puts less stress on cold memorization, encouraging that you develop a thematic understanding of why events happened and how they impacted the course of history. Regardless of your major, you MUST take a class with him. Still good online too!

Prof. Elzey is an easy grader, gives greats great feedback, and updates your grades fast. There is a lot of work: discussion boards every single week, a quiz every 2-3 weeks, a big paper based on the readings, and two exams. I honestly did not do ANY of the readings and barely finish the films, and still pass his class. I recommend taking him!

Easy class. Fair grader. Good late homework policy. A good bit of writing for 100 level but assignments did not take much effort and I did not have to read materials. I still learned a lot somehow. Definitely recommend.

The professor himself is really nice and accessible. The class was way too much work for 100 level though. Lot's of reading, weekly assignments & discussion boards. He makes the material interesting & storylike so it isn't too bad. The exams require lots of writing but he's an easy grader and if you do the work & put in effort you'll pass.

He is super good at what he does. He knows a lot about the subject and cares about what he teaches. He is however a tough grader when it comes to essays. Well, it's just like a usually high school history teacher. Easy class to pass if you do the work

Prof. Elzey is a great Professor who knows a ton about the subject and keeps the class interesting. You will have to work to get an A, there is a lot of reading and essay writing. Midterm and final are 2 essays (700 words) and 3 short answer each, and in addition there are two other 700 word papers and a 2500 word one. Relatively lenient grader.

We did so many assignments for this class--all of which made us understand the Olympics comprehensively from 1896 all the way to the present time. Whether Coubertin, Brundage, Wilma Rudolph, boycotts, drug use, nationalism, or politics--we learned about every cross-connection related to the Olympics. It was a demanding class but an impressive one.

I've taken Prof. Elzey before, and overall his classes are easy & straightforward with assignments & grading criteria. This class relied on readings and some extra movies, docs, and podcasts for all the info. If you can't access any of the extra videos, sometimes he'll have screenings on Zoom to go over them. Overall a great guy with an easy class.

Dr. Elzey is great. He's an easy grader as long as you do the work, there are 2 exams, a 10 page research paper, a handful of quizzes, "optional papers" (you write 2 of 5), discussion boards and a presentation. Lots of work, but as long as you do it accordingly, you will pass for sure. Answers email. I would take him again for another course.

Professor Elzey was a great professor. Even though this was an asynchronous class, he made it engaging and was easily accessible to students. There was a lot of busy-work but it was graded super leniently and it helps prepare you for the exams/projects.

There are A LOT of materials each week so make sure you are on top of the deadlines. Midterm/final questions are made available to you weeks before the due date, make sure to answer them when you learn until that unit. Easy grader as long as you can answer the question. I somehow succeed in this class as a non-native speaker that dislikes history.

First class at a university and he laid out the homework way before the assignment was due. The midterm and exam was given to us at the beginning of the class. He really was not a hard professor and was passionate about history. If you don't like history, he is still a good professor.

Amazing professor, difficult class. 10 quizzes,1essay, 2 exams (midterm + final), the midterm and final are LONG, they take at least 5-8 hours to work on. I never go to the classes and still doing okay. the TA's do all the grading so hope that you get a good one assigned to you, they usually grade nicer. If you have to take a history take this one.

While there weren't pop quizzes, there were quizzes every week so keep an eye on the syllabus so you aren't caught off guard. That being said, Elzey is an amazing professor and the quizzes were typically open note and easy, in addition to exams being open note can be done in advance. Definitely recommend taking his class for your Mason Core.

Lots of lectures for the class but easy work. There are some in-class quizzes and other quizzes that are online, a few online assignments throughout the semester, two exams, and one paper on one of the assigned books (you choose which book you want to do). His grading system is good and the content is easy to understand

Professor Elzey made a great time for me when I started out at GMU when I took HIST100 with him during the COVID season. He's very understandable, has great feedback, and does allow for work to be turned in late and such should you really need it. Would take him again if I could for potential future classes.

Best History professor you can ever take. He teaches history through exciting stories from that period. He doesn't just lecture a timeline with some events. I loved how he teaches class; he is passionate and knowledgeable about what he is saying. He is an easy grader and gives good feedback. His class quizzes get easier as the semester goes by.

Professor Elzey is incredibly knowledgeable. His lectures are always entertaining and he's an expert in the topic we learned about. We ended up reading 5 books throughout class and took quizzes on them. The expectation with the books was that you read on your own time. The exams are written, so watch out for those. We got questions before.

This whole class is easy writing, just time-consuming. Assignments are typically: read/watch this (but just go on Wikipedia) and write a 250 word response about it. Don't buy the textbook or do the assigned textbook reading, just borrow it/check it out if you need it for your exam essays. Great professor and easy class.

As long as you watch the short lectures and take notes, you should be fine for discussion boards and the exams. It wasn't a stressful class but was more time-consuming than I thought sometimes, but overall it was good.

1 essay, 2 exams, 3 books, and lots of material to cover each week. Not a harsh grader, but the class is difficult because of the workload. Participation really matters. You'll learn a lot from his class, but if you want an *easy* A, don't take this prof.

I don't typically enjoy history classes but Elzey was a good teacher and made the class bearable. His class was fairly easy and as long as you take notes and study for the tests it's easy to get a good grade in this class. When you have to take a hist class for mason core, I would suggest him.

As someone who has struggled with history subjects before, Dr. Elzey made it simple and interesting to learn. I really enjoyed HIST 125! The study guides were just like the test and I highly recommend him as a professor!

Participation is not mandatory if you are good with memorization and put effort into the study guides. He makes it easy for students to get a good grade, which only comes with drive. Minimal reading is done for primary worksheets, which make up a decent percentage of your grade, no need to purchase the textbook. Elzey is super sweet, I recommend.

The class itself covers lots of areas, however the professor teaches the topic very clear and answers the question of his students in a clear way. . He does not take attendance however I suggest you do go because there are lots of info to remember

Professor Elzey is extremely great and hilarious! As long as you take notes during the lectures you will do fine on the exams, he gives out study guides of possible questions on the exams so that you can be ready for what is going to be on them. Aside from that he just has the occasional group assignment but they are extremely easy. Easy A course!

3 exams no mcqs but writing-based; however, don't let that intimidate you. He provides a study guide with potential prompts which is super useful. Couple in-class quizzes & worksheets that were fairly easy. TAs weren't terribly harsh graders either. Never bought the textbook and found pdfs/summaries of books online. Lectures were useful for notes.

Professor Elzey rocks. He is clearly very passionate about his work and has very engaging lectures. Attendence isn't mandatory, but be aware that you're graded on worksheets/quizzes that he may give randomly. He doesn't post his powerpoints, but gives more than enough time to take notes in class. If you have issues, he's more than happy to help.

Prof. Elzey is one of the best instructors I've ever had. He takes the time to remember the students' names, and he is very passionate about the class. There are some assigned readings and in-class worksheets, so just be sure to attend every lecture (why wouldn't you?). We even got to watch Dr. Strangelove in class. (with notes, of course)

He was chill and his lectures were interesting.

This is lowkey the easiest class you're gonna take. Make sure you're in class when theres a worksheet. If not, you don't even really need to go. No homework. There are readings(if you don't read them you'll honestly be fine). Clear study guides. Just study a day or two before the test and it should be an easy A. Easy grader as well.

Took Spring 2024. Lectures were long and boring, with heavy emphasis on textbook reading, but easy material. 3 exams which had definitions (pick 4 out of 5 to complete), Short answer questions (pick from list of 5 or so), and Essay (pick one of two). Exams had study guides with all of the possible exam questions, of which he would choose a few.

Prof. Elzey's class is a breeze. Attend lectures, do the short readings, and study the provided guides - you're practically guaranteed an easy A. unstuckstudy is a great tool for test prep too.

Very calm class, provides passion with history. He doesn't upload slides. Does partner work for in class assignments in same day. Curves exam and drop quizzes as well.

Prof Elzey filled in to teach our class midway through the semester. He transitioned wonderfully and made lectures super intriguing. Even with a late start, he made a superb effort getting to know everyone and engage the class. History is not my strong suit, but his understanding and care got me through the end of the semester. Def take his class!

He is quite literally the best instructor I have had at GMU. Well respected, played d1 basketball, passionate about all of his lectures, etc. There is a textbook, but you don't need to buy it. Attendance isn't taken, but there are pop quizzes. History can be boring, but Elzey brings good energy every day, and convinced me to minor in it. Take him.

This class is amazing! I may be biased as a history major, but for those looking to take it purely for the Gen Ed credit, I highly recommend him. His lectures are easy to understand, and no outside homework out of reading. He does some pop quizzes but they are very easy. Also study guides outline exactly what will be on the exam

As a senior he is one of the best lecturers I've had here at Mason, every class was extremely engaging and he knows exactly what he's talking about. No homework and all graded assignments are done in class. Tells you what questions will be on the exam before hand. Does require you to buy the textbook, however you really don't need it for the course

Was a bit conflicted when I read the reviews and took his course. He's an amazing professor who knows how to teach, but attendance matters more than reviews suggest. Pop quizzes/in-class work (some unscheduled) affect grades. Class is ONLY writing-heavy, with timed exams and assignments requiring detail if not you wont get a good score.

His class was part of my first semester and he was my favorite professor by far. His lectures are interesting, he does not give homework, and he only requires you to read. I would say it is almost impossible to fail this class. Some students in his class never read the books and never attended the lectures. He also gives very helpful study guides.

Amazing professor! His lectures are fascinating and engaging - notes are not posted, so make sure you attend. Grades are based on a few quizzes, some done with groups and others based on the textbook/readings, and 2 exams. He provides super helpful study guides for the exams. Very kind, understanding, and passionate professor. Definitely recommend!

Prof. Elzey is probably the best professor I have had. You're graded on primary source worksheets, quizzes, and 2 exams. He is very lecture heavy but it is easy to follow and understand. Be prepared to write, we only had two/three quizzes that were MCQ and exams are free response but he gives you a helpful study guide. He a super easy grader too.

He is a great professor overall. But I don't understand all the easy A comments. This is not an easy A for me. You need to show up for all the in-class assignments ( big parts of ur grades) and he required group work - I hate group work & I spent A LOT of time going through all his exam questions thoroughly. Maybe it's easy for a B. But not an A+

VERY lecture heavy. Attendance is not required, but encouraged. He takes your attendance into account if your grade is in need of a boost. He will issue pop quizzes when there's low attendance. All worksheets are in class and you're required to work with one or two people. All texts are required.

Very good professor. He knows a lot about the subject he's teaching, and is generous when it comes to grading papers/group projects/tests. The course lecture heavy, and taking notes helps. There is also a lot of reading. Attendance isn't mandatory on non quiz/test days, but it is recommended.

I took an Olympic History course with him having zero interest in sports but he was really passionate about what he was teaching and made the class really interesting and about more than just the sports parts of the Olympics. We had 4 assigned books each with an accompanying short essay and quiz (each with the lowest grade dropped)

if you know the basic history and go to the lectures you'll pass this class easily. MEMORIZE THE ESSAYS BEFORE THE TESTS.
