Dr. Fonvielle is one of my favorite teachers here. He makes class exciting and really has a passion for history and teaching. Make sure to not miss class, but you won't want to because he's such a nice guy and class is actually interesting. As long as you pay attention and study, it's not too much work. And go on the extra credit field trips!

Dr. Fonvielle is one of the best professors I've had at UNCW yet. He loves his profession and makes you want to go to class. You get 3 absences, after that minus 1 point for each absence. He offers TONS of extra credit opportunities so you should always get an A. Tests are difficult. They include IDs and an essay, so make sure you listen in class!

Dr. Fonvielle was the best test teacher I have ever had! very clear lectures. easy straight forward tests and a great guy in general. He takes the classes on trips during after class hours for extra credit which really helps out your grade and is great to see where history happened!

Awful professor, very rude, and his opinions are always right. No help when trying to email him. Would not recommend this guy.

You are going to hear many personal stories and opinions. Knows the material really well but talks a lot more than is on his powerpoints, so it's hard to get everything written down.

hands down best teacher i've ever had! He wants you to succeed. I bombed my first test and left the class with an A+. The tests are all written. Basically you write what you know about certain topics. He offers A LOT of extra credit so take advantage of it, he also cancels class for extra credit. Go to class & pay attention and you will do great!

I really enjoyed Prof. Fonvielle. He is so knowledgeable and loves to give you that knowledge. Be prepared to read and write a paper. I took him over the summer and that wasn't enough time but was really enjoyable.

Fonvielle is seriously the best professor I've had at UNCW. He's so in tune with every bit of material he's teaching (I've taken 3, going on 4 courses with him now), and can make anything interesting. You'll have to do some reading and pay attention, but you get lots of opportunities for extra credit and he grades fairly.

Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. I hate history and still really enjoyed his teaching and going every day. He offers test review before every test, and as long as you show up and take notes you'll be fine. His tests are fair and he gives great feedback. There's one big paper but he lets you choose the topic. Highly recommend!

PLEASE TAKE HIM! It does not get any better than Dr. Fonvielle. He will make you love history! His lectures are very interesting and easy to pay attention to. The tests are also very easy because they are open note and open book, but also because he's an amazing teacher. You will not regret taking this class. Easy A.

Great professor but some of his views are a little dated. Loved his civil war class and he gives a ton of extra credit. Would take him again.

Dr. Fonvielle is awesome! really great teacher and his tests are really easy as long as you come to class and take notes. We had 3 essay style tests that, if you gave enough detail, you would pass very easily. He also did review sessions before each exam and offers A LOT of extra credit!

I hate history but I enjoyed this class. He really loves what he does and that pays off. The class is test heavy but you have opportunities to watch movies and go on trips for extra credit. The tests are all writing based and you have a paper to do but as long as you study you should be fine.

Dr. Fonvielle is absolutely the best professor I have ever had at UNCW. It is so sad that he is retiring soon. I wish I was a history major so that I could have taken many more classes with him. He is so funny, caring, and genuinely wants his students to succeed. I wish I could retake the course again. He is amazing. Take him!!!
