I didn't understand a lot of things we discussed in class but he was a cool teacher and not too bad to look at! Acted like a teenager
very enjoyable personality, easy to relate to, but the material was pretty difficult. just make sure to see how he explains things before you analyze them for yourself. he will help you if you find time to ask him. difficult but not impossible.
I loved him. His class was awesome. He is gorgeous and highly intelligent. I want to marry him and so will you after you take him
Teacher knows his stuff. Answer test questions exactly! Very strict on test question grading! Wish I would have known this on the first test! Love the "So, whats going on?" question he asks everyday, gives you a chance to discuss current-phi. events. Cool guy, highly recommend.

Really cool teacher. Be aware of current events b/c he will want to discuss any news before class. Tests are pretty difficult and his grading style is pretty difficult. Overall he makes a very boring topic a little more interesting and I had fun in the class. Had 4 tests and 5 papers last semester.
Meh... he was...alright I guess. Not the best teacher I've ever had, but I failed all his tests, got C's on all his papers (which I still don't understand), and made a C in the class, which was cool...but he was very smug and only appreciated his own opinions of the world while rejecting students- not very philosophical...
Mr. Gandy is one of the best prof's I had at Wake Tech. Philosophy can easily be a boring subject but he makes it interesting and thought provoking. The key to success in this class is to be involved in the discussion. 75% of his class is discussion on subject and current events. His tests are challengin, but not hard if you do the reading.
Took him twice, will be taking him again, he's absolutely great. LOVES current events, listen to N.P.R. on the way to class!!!!

Extremely hard tests! Great teacher tho. Fair with grading, testing, etc... very interesting classes. Chicks dig him.
The writing assignments aren't that bad, but his exams are very difficult. The reading assignments are also very diffucult because the stories date back to over a 1,000 years ago. If you don't need to take Western Philosophy, then my suggestion to you is do not pick this class as an elective unless you need this class. Nice discussion in this class

the information was kind of hard to get a grip on, but if you aren't understanding things, just go talk to him and he'll walk you through it. pay attention during lectures, take good notes, you'll be fine. and he really is quite a good looking man...
I thought I was going to hate the class but not only did I love it, I fell completely in love with him. He's brilliant, thoughtful, attractive, intelligent, politically and socially aware, and everything you want a professer to be! Material was difficult at first but got much, much easier to understand as the class progressed. Take his class!!!
He's a cool dude! One must definitely have an open mind to be in his class, but it is a fun class, I learned a lot!. Highly recommed him for HUM class
Mr.Gandy is laid back when it came to attendance.He knew what he was talking about in lectures which is all the class is.For his tests he had only specific answers he would take.Even if you can find proof that your answer was right he would not change your grade.When writting his paper you should know your topic isnt ethical even if its on abortion
Gandy is a cool enough guy. Def good looking too! The material is really hard to grasp, esp the first unit. Luckily he gave us an open book and take home quiz. The assignments can save your grade too if you do well enough on them. He is a pretty tough grader and will only take certain answers. The class itself was boring, but maybe that's just me.
I'd suggest going to myspace's version of ratemyprofessor to get a different perspective of Mr. Gandy. He obviously prefers his own point of view to anyone elses, and will give low grades for petty reasons. I raised my hand several times in class and he never once called on me, but would call on other people. He can be a real jerk!
Nice guy but his class is really hard. It is against his moral philosophy to give students points they dont deserve so the material is really hard &if you cant think out of the box the class is almost impossible He looks for very specific answers on the tests, I worked my butt off &only ended up with a C! Also really slow at returning assignments.
Nice guy but the class is hard. Tests seem really straight forward but he wants really specific answers. You have to do the study guides to pass the tests. I worked my butt off and was sure that I was going to end up with a C but somehow I ended up with a B - so I guess it wasn't that bad of a class.
This is a tough class. He does grade on participation, so make sure to speak up. The tests are all short answer questions, but in order to get a good grade, you MUST read the material! It is an interesting class, no doubt. Most of the class is spent talking about the text. Make sure to read ahead of time!
Very difficult. I sweated bullets over two major papers which I made A's on. Because I missed one quiz due to illness (I had a doc's excuse also), I ended up with a D and couldn't believe it. He is very hard line!
He had very interesting conversations in class and was very laid back, He gives lots of notes so read and copy them down! His tests are HARD!! they are usually only 8-10 questions all short answer and he looks for things VERY specific. Do the study guide and email him the answers and see what he says about them. very few grades in the class!!!
Great teacher! He really knows what he's talking about. This is a very discussion-based class. He does take participation grades and being part of the discussion is crucial in this class. Make sure you turn in the papers on time and be on top of the readins because it will definately help in class. If you don't pay attention you will fail.

Would loved to have had an A and probably could have gotten it if I spoke more in class. Think deeply and defend your point of view!You'll need your book- and if you aren't getting something, and at some point you will need help, he's pretty accessible. Slow to return papers (and not a lot of feedback.)
Mr. Gandy is a nice guy and enjoys hearing what students have to say in class. The problem with this instructor was his inability to get work graded on time. In fact, he would say things would be graded by a certain day and still would not have the stuff graded.
Mr Gandy loves to play Devil's advocate, which I appreciate because you should never be 100% convinced that your way of seeing things is right. My only beef is that our classes often got sidetracked because students would go off on wild tangents. Papers took forever to get graded, and I got the same final grade as intellectually inferior classmates
Cool guy and good teacher but takes it too far sometimes and is kinda harsh on papers. other then that good teacher and recommended.
Fun class, I was disappointed in some of my classmates who were upset with him for "preaching his politics." he doesn't he plays devils advocate to get everyone thinking "ethics." He grades tough, but usually lets you use notes for the tests. Highly recommended, fun class, not an easy A but fun.
He was an interesting teacher, however he never returned papers and this made it impossible to track your grade. When I asked him how I was doing and if I needed to improve he would only say "your doing fine" If I was doing fine why did I get a C in his class. I am an above average student and I was disappointed with this class.
Great teacher!!! funny, answers questions, lets you use notes on quizzes because they would be impossible without them. And to those people who are complaining about papers and test grades think about what he has to do. He should spend at least 3 minutes on your essays on the test and if you do the math he would spend 120 hours of grading. so...
I really liked this class. He is an interesting teacher and is very good at teaching. You'll have to work hard to get a good grade, but it is very possible!
Most pretentious professor I have ever had. This guy LOVES to hear his own voice. Ask yourself a question and then ask "Why" after everything. Now you've taken his class. He is extremely hard on papers and does not return them on time. The problem is that he's the only Humanities professor at WTCC that teaches this course. We just have to deal.
Definitely one of the best teachers here at WT. He teaches philosophy classes the way they should be taught!

He is one of the knowledgeable instructor in philosophy. I really enjoyed his classes and quizzes and one paper and other activities are required to be done. you just have to study before the class. I recommend this class.
Mr. Candy is an excellent teacher, and guides his students into thinking ethically. Though a tough subject, his humor helps sink the information into your brain. Good job Habanero !

Definitely an interesting instructor. My class was all about the apocalypse so it was always fun in class even though it was 3 hrs it fly's bay and allows time to watch movies :) I can't say whether or not he is easy bc he doesn't really give grades and the semesters not over yet. either way I still enjoyed the discussions.
This professor is down to earth and to the point. The laid back atmosphere truly allows for a better learning experience. No need to purchase the text so long as you attend his lectures and participate in discussions.
Absolutely my favorite instructor. He is excellent at asking you the hard questions no one wants to think about in philosophy. He grades hard because he really expects you to think your philosophy all the way through. He is not one to let you just write anything. Be prepared to hear a lot of opinions from others.
Great guy, but horrible teacher. His view points are more than interesting but sometimes hard to understand how they are relating to the readings. Most students were failing at the end, so he gave out extra credit to try and lift the class average.

Yes, the class isn't an easy A. But you will learn so much and think on a new level. Professor Gandy is really an exceptional teacher. If you don't do the work, study for the quizzes/tests, you are sure to fail... LIKE EVERY OTHER COLLEGE CLASS. If you're failing, you're not putting in effort.

I did not care much for the class and I was hoping to like a PHI class. Correspondence with him was not that great. He never responded back to emails I had sent him. Tests were hard as was the reading to comprehend on the most part. Lectures took up the whole class, including the question posed at the beginning of class. Not interesting at all.
Very tough class, almost everyone in my class did not pass. Lectures are not interesting, grades extremely hard.
It is definitely not an easy A class. Very interesting and thought-provoking though. Tried hard to pull my grade up to an A but did not work out well. Make sure to prepare for the quizzes. Critical thinking is needed when writing essays. If you failed his class, you really did not put any effort into it. Overall, he's a passionate professor!
He doesn't follow through with what he originally states. He had me down for a 0 on an essay that he graded. When I asked him about it, he said not to worry about it and that he would change it. When I checked my final grade, he still had a 0 for that and another essay. He gave me an F when my lowest grade for the class was an 83. DO NOT TAKE!!!
He appears to love arguing. First paper was to tell what Critical Thinking meant. He slammed the paper, using lots of red ink. I got an A, but had no idea why. The next paper, I received little feedbackcomments when he graded it. I got a C, again not understanding why. I dropped the class having never dropped a class before then.
He is extremely awful. He doesn't respect his students. It's ironic that he teaches Ethics, yet he is not ethical with other students. He doesn't reply on Black Board, and he is extremely difficult to work with. He is extremely disorganized. He made an easy, enjoyable class extremely hard and boring. I would not recommend this professor.
Okay class was boring. Half of the students there fell asleep. We barely used our books. and a lll he did was talk about the same article we read. If you missed that day of class and ask for any assignments were giving out during the class time you've met and he'll say no. but the on black board your grades drop at the last minute too. waste of tim
Don't take this class if you are lazy, and not completely dedicated. Gandy is a hard teacher and is a hard grader. You have to put in your best effort to receive a good grade in the class. I had a C and finally managed to pull it up to a B because I studied incredibly hard on the final. You have to really give it your all, no slacking!
Great professor. His lectures can go off topic sometimes and usually are pretty long . Can be dull. However, he listens to his students, asks tough questions and challenges you philosophically. As long as you read the book, and pay attention in class, you're guaranteed to pass.
The class was difficult. The majority of our quizzes and important graded assignments (essays) were typed or written based off of our understanding of the material. Unfortunately, professor Gandy often would not agree with what was written or answered. In the end, I finished with an A. Memorize everything he writes down in class and you'll be fine
Mr. Gandy is nice but other than that I am not enjoying this class. It is A LOT of work and you have to pay attention for the whole class period. If you only need this class as a requirement look for a different one. If you are really into Aristotle, Kant etc. and you want to learn and work, this is the place for you.
Mr. Gandy is a laid back teacher in terms of participation and attendance. After mid-way through the semester he stops taking attendance. The overall grade in his class consists of essays and quizzes, and final exam. Hes lenient with essay grading. His quizzes are tough. You really have to search the readings for answers. The final exam is easy.
He made ethics extremely intriguing. Students taking his class will be fine for quizzes and tests as long as they are avid note takers. Make sure to take notes of everything written on the board (that outline the main discussion points) and fill in with examples that he gives during class because many of them show back up later.
Ethics is a hard class for me, I had to retake it. I took Gandy for my second try. Mr. Gandy is probably your best route to passing this class. He has easy to follow discussions and he explains the material pretty well. But you gotta work for it by studying. He talks a lot, so beware, you might not be able to chime in everytime. But it's tolerable.
Mr. Gandy is a hard professor to listen to because he's slightly monotone and he solely depends on verbal lectures. If you are not an auditory learner then do not take any of his classes. He seems to have an underlying apathetic attitude towards teaching because he's not one-hundred percent sure if any of his students care about his class.
This guy isn't what I would call inspirational and he's not entirely respectful of his students sometimes. One time we raised our hands in response to a question he asked the class and his response was, "well first of all, I would say that you guys (who raised your hands) have self-esteem issues..." that was totally uncalled for.
I enjoyed philosophy with him. He encourages class participation/discussion. Likes for you to put in effort.
He only puts a few things in the grade book. Quizzes are actually tests, they take the hit for most of your grade. Essays are tough, he isn't very clear on how he wants them structured. Unclear and confusing.
GREAT teacher and he doesn't do notes so be ready to take notes on your own although his lectures are intersting you need to take notes while he is talking
He really makes you work for it. SUPER tough grader, and he does not respond to emails or calls.

Very few chances to bring your grade up, and everything was weighted extremely heavy. Don't even hope for an A. You're not going to get it. Especially if you're not an auditory learner. All of his classes are lectures. He hardly ever changes anything up.
Take notes and you should be fine! One would benefit from remembering the specific examples he gives in his lectures to help you on tests.
If you're looking to fail take this class. He has a few grades and is a very heavy grader and does not believe in extra credit.
HE IS THE WORST TEACHER EVER. He's not direct at all in what he wants. Doesn't give extra credit. Everyone in the class is failing. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY TIME OR CREDITS ON THIS DUDE
He's a fair professor, who makes this generally boring material more relatable. Gandy will grade your essays generously, his tests aren't that hard if you keep up with the lecture, he gives guided notes if you don't read. Quizzes are mostly reading quizzes, just do the minimal work and this class will be fine. He is better than Mr. Kitrell.
The class itself is extremely boring. There are only a few paper given and the instructed grades at a difficult level. Dont even buy the textbook you wont open it once . By the way, the entire class is failing.
Every class is a dry lecture. Be prepared for rambling and nothing to really take notes on. Quizzes are hard and subjective, papers are even harder. Good luck.
Didn't do much in class besides listen to him talk. Only six things graded not including the final or extra credit. Thought it was gonna be an easy A and then messed up on one quiz and suddenly an A was out of reach. Still, a very nice guy who clearly cares about ethical issues and theories. Wish he did more for the sake of class engagement.
Ok, so if youre thinking about taking this professor then just simply DONT! all he does is talk and TALK. No class notes or anything, he doesnt give any extra credit whatsoever considering how hard his quizzes are plus doesnt drop the lowest quiz like every other instructor at wake tech does! Probably one of the worst professors i had.
Unspecific guidelines, unclear lectures. He just highlights on a document and repeats the same point for an hour. Only gives comments if requested but doesnt tell you this till you already got your essay back. No published rubrics, so good luck meeting his undetermined expectations. I never got a C in my life till this class.
This was not my favorite class by any means. The content was very difficult and I do not feel that Professor Gandy did a very good job at explaining it. He did nothing but lecture all semester (no powerpoint or anything) and what he lectured on had nothing to do with the content on the quizzes. Graded only by four quizzes, two papers, and a final.
Don't take Gandy. Only grades are 4 quizzes, 2 papers, & a final. In class lectures hardly ever have to do w/ whats on the quiz - makes it so hard to study. VERY picky on free response qs. I think he lost one of my quizzes as he counted a zero and refused to change it ?? Doesn't give feedback on essays - at all. Responses to emails are RARE.
Tough class, tough teacher .its a class that you have to take but I feel youre graded harshly by prof. Based upon what he seems the right answer to be its a large grey area and if you're not playing to the prof. You will struggle to pass no matter. How much you Study

Your grade depends on 4 quizzes and the Final, thats it. Lectures don't help with test material. Test grade depends on how well you respond to the open ended question but he doesn't really give feedback on what he considers a "good" answer. Plus, he barely responds to emails.
The class is graded on four quizzes, two papers, and a final. The lectures arent very useful for quizzes as he essentially goes over what the people (who lead the schools of thought) believed. His study guides feel so broad-spanning that he might as well have not given you one. TL;DR: Test info not taught, quizzes confusing, dont take him.
Gandy's class was not easy & there is a lot of reading & interpretation for the quizzes and such BUT if you have questions, he is one of few professors who will take the time to answer them in depth to help you understand the material. As long as you make clear what he wants for the assignments, you can get a good grade! Would take his class again!
Professor Gandy was the worst teacher I ever had, and he nevered showed up half the time. His quizzes are nothing like the lecture and he doesnt even have a lecture because he doesnt teach. Horrible teacher!
Professor Gandy is a really good and fair professor. His class is really hard so people do bad and then blame it on him. He gives out a ton of free extra credit opportunities but people just straight up lie and say he doesn't. If you're not willing to work hard then don't take this class
Professor Gandy not a good teacher. His lectures are just ramblings; theres nothing take notes on. This, coupled with broad study guides, makes the 4 quizzes very difficult. Those 4 quizzes, 3 papers, and the final make up your grade. He also doesnt respond to emails at all, and doesnt give feedback on short answer without going to his office.
Only 4 quizzes and 4 paper assignments (1 is optional), thats your grade. Lectures are boring, just study the notes for the specific theories and youll be fine.
Ethics is mostly about theories, this class is about memorizing concepts and applying them. This makes it an easy class but he is a tough grader when it comes to writing papers. The quizzes are simple but the wording is a bit confusing so beware of that. An average day of class is to show up, listen to him lecture, then leave. Its pretty chill.
The lectures were not only boring but mostly irrelevant to the test and quiz. The most helpful thing you can do is read the book and use the blackboard notes. For my taste the whole class was monotone so I would have rather took this online
Professor Gandy is very easy online and most weeks only has one discussion board. Lots of tests and doesn't provide much feedback. However we was often very late posting the weeks work and could be flakey with posting the tests. He did have lots of extra credit and there are two papers. Not a bad choice but if you are taking course for credit.
Literally the worst humanities professor ever. His class is extra hard for no reason. Don't even think of taking his class unless you like torturing yourself. His class is literally the hardest class I'm taking this semester when I have calculus II and chemistry II this semester. Please do yourself a favor and don't take your class with him.
Grading criteria 10% for everything. Very fair. You'll know what is on the quizzes bc his word documents thoroughly w/ what he expects you to retain. I've seen on here that in person he is loquacious, but I think that is his improv of what he would otherwise be putting in word documents. Kinda hard to reach out to via email for tutoring though.
Professor Gandy takes the time to create in-depth analyses of the material for the online class. Hes hyper quick to respond to questions and available daily. Study the application of the material and youll be fine. Memorization will not be enough! If you fail a test, hell provide lots of opportunities for extra credit. Graded only by 8 tests.
This is a really tough class. Being introduced to topics and immediately needing to know how to apply them in random situations presented on quizzes is very difficult. He is really nice though and wants students to learn the stuff and not just go through the motions. He's a tough grader but he also offers extra credit and is very fair.
worst professor of my life. he doesn't let you see what answers you got wrong on tests and quizzes, if you miss an assignment you can't make it up, he grades so hard for no reason. literally the worst class I have ever taken. i have to take the class again because i'm .3 points away from passing and he literally doesnt care.
This professor is literally the worst. He didn't give any feedback for essays or tests, and even though I worked hard on the essays, I didn't get higher than an 80. He doesn't actually teach anything, just provides an overload of useless notes that don't apply to anything on the quizzes or exams. If you can take another professor, DO IT!
Is this class an easy A? It can be. Graded by DB weekly, open note quiz every other week, and two essays. It's very little workload meaning the few assignments you do, really count. Those who wait till the last min and treat it like a "side" class will do poorly. Gandy is great, and very responsive. Gives you everything you need for an A.
Prof. Gandy was pretty good, he did not assign too much homework and as long as I read the lecture notes I did fine. The quiz questions were sometimes wordy and confusing. The lectures are long but interesting and he raises good questions. However, he would sometimes answer questions with another question which was sort of frustrating.
This professor doesn't teach anything and leaves me extremely confused after every week of the semester. His "notes" does not have anything to do with what's on the quizzes and the questions are almost very hypothetical. I can never get higher than a 60 on a frustrating quiz. He also rarely responds to emails which is frustrating.
This has to be my worst experience at Wake Tech so far. Professor Gandy answers no emails, grades work weeks late, offers no feedback on discussion boards, does not teach the class (expects you to find quiz material on your own, what a great teacher,) and you risk getting him angry if you email him twice after no response. Stay away, please!
He did not give out a lot of assignments and never responded to emails. The test questions were confusing and dense. His lecture were interesting yet seemed irrelevant to the quizzes. Took ages to grade essays and update grades.
There are only 7 or so quizzes and a couple essays during the whole semester, so expect to be recovering your grade for the rest of the semester if you do bad on even a single assignment. The quizzes are honestly made harder than they should be - at least, I think that many questions could be worded better. Mr. Gandy is nice but it's not worth it.
Quizzes are confusing. None of the questions were straight forward and the wording for the answer choices was even more confusing. Nothing was clear on what it was asking. Be ready to decipher everything he gives.
He was pretty chill. My main problem is the lack of content. Only ten grades that were worth ten percent each, and seven of them were quizzes, which were hard. There wasn't enough room for error.
Mr. Gandy is a nice teacher, but his lectures are very hard to understand, and he tends to ramble. The extra credit you receive will be graded quite harshly as well (The points earned on the extra credit gets put towards your quiz grades). The only things he grades are eight quizzes and two essays. Quizzes are also very difficult.
Mr. Gandy may be passionate about what he teaches, but teaching isn't his forte. His lectures are boring. He could YAP FOR HOURS, yet he fails to provide clear instructions for our essays. He does not offer any feedback, despite taking forever to grade them. Save yourself the trouble and opt for a different instructor.
NEVER gives feedback on anything. Does NOT drop lowest quiz grade. As long as you complete the blackboard weekly post you get 100%. Lots of reading, and minimal assignments. Two papers throughout the semester and quizzes were every other week. I would take him again though...maybe
Gandy seems like a cool dude, but it was very difficult to get a good grade in his class based on how he teaches. There is no PowerPoint, no notes, no student interaction, JUST him talking for an hour and forty minutes. He gives 6 quizzes and 2 essays. The essay took over a month for him to grade and he didn't even give any feedback.
Prof. Gandy has an unconventional teaching style, but engaging lectures. While his grading can be tough, using resources like unstuckstudy for study prep can help. Attendance is a must, and the workload is manageable if you stay on top of it.
Mr. Gandy was great. I ended up registering late so I was like oh well I'll take what I can get and he was great. The class is not bad. There were two essays which if you understand the basic ethics we just talked about you're fine. He was the best for being understanding if you needed help.
He is a very chill teacher. There are weekly discussions, quizzes, and two papers that you have all semester to write. He does take a while to grade, and I'm honestly not sure how the discussion board was graded. The easiest class could have slept through it and still passed.
This class is horrible. He takes forever to grade assignments with no feedback once he does. Your final grade consists of 4-8 quizzes and two essays. He claims that any makeup assignments for missed classes will be extra credit, but he will let them sit ungraded for a month then delete it off blackboard. He never stays on topic while teaching.

Please for the love of everything good and great in the world do NOT choose this professor. Never in my life have I ever had such a awful teacher. He is unresponsive to ALL emails. Takes forever to put in grades; the final exam was due today, and I assumed I would log on tonight and find that my final grades were in. I thought wrong. You also have eight quizzes the entire semester, which are almost 40% of your entire grade. I missed one quiz, and that is the sole reason I have a C in the class. I don't recommend him.
