Awesome teacher Great person Will always help if he can
AWESOME TEACHER. NEVER BORING AND WILL HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT.
AWESOME TEACHER> he grades hard but tells you everything you need to know for the tests. he requires you to meet with him before turning in your paper. the availibility for that is sometimes difficult.

An excellent teacher who loves doing what he does. Tests are hard but he teaches you and if you pay attention you will pass the exams

Mr. Genre was a good teacher, but the only thing that got me was his nit-picky pet peeves that he typed out and handed out on the 1st few weeks. Its was really strange. I know teachers have pet peeves but they were really picky!
He was a great teacher! He actually reads the exact test the class before you take it so you know exactly what is going to be on the test. Easy A-if you read.
if you are not a strong English student, do not take him! he is ridiculous in what he wants! he is very anal about everything. he does make appointments for you to talk about your paper before you turn it in but the meetings are only 5 min. and he only looks at the 1st page of the paper which obviously only helps with the 1st page!!
I took American Lit b/c I thought it would be the easiest. It is with him... He goes over the majority of the works, but every now and then he will get you to read a few on your own. Not hard though. He reads word for word what is on the test, (I recommend you make flash cards) VERY EASY A. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!!
Great teacher, you will definetly write a lot though and he can be picky, but by the end of the semester you will have an easy time writting a paper. He also gives test and quizzes but he tells you the answers the day before(easy points)
He was very easy. We read almost everything in class. I didn't read anything out of class and still got an A. You really don't have to read at all just as long as you are there for the review and remember everything! Make flash cards!! Go to class just for the participation grade.
eng 1023
I took Mr. Genre Spring of 2003. (wow that was a long time ago) I recommend everyone I talk with to take him for Eng 102. I was not an english person, but I learned alot from his class. I still find myself, as a Senior, correcting papers the way he wanted them. he is also a nice guy that tries to help you anyway he can.

ARROGANT
This was my first English class out of high school and it was great. Some of the hoops he makes you jump through are strange, but they all help you. Everyone gets a five minute confrence with him for every paper. He proofreads it and tells you how to get an A. Quirks: Doesn't give 100s, can not use the word "That" in any paper, slightly arrogant.
VERY STRAIGHFORWARD. LOTS OF QUIZES AND TAKES ROLL. VERY HELPFUL. LIVELY AND FOCUSED. DON'T MISS HIS 5-MINUTE-MEETINGS OUTSIDE OF CLASS. HE WILL TAKE OFF POINTS.
He SUCKS!! No, he is a good teacher. But I honestly feel "that" he is too ARROGANT. He is EXTREMELY strick!! And he doesn't seem to have compassion for ANY of his students. If you can handle that, then you'll do just fine. But if you're like me.. YOU'D AVOID HIM ALL TOGETHER!!
he's not an easy teacher, but he's extremely helpful. he tells you what is going to be on the quizzes and will help you on essays if you just ask.
He's a wonderful teacher. It's not an easy class, but I recomend people take him. He will break things down for you until you understand them. He's a nice guy and I'm glad I took him because now I write better than most of my friends. :P
not an easy teacher & is arrogant at times, but extremely helpful if you only ask. dont miss his five minute meetings. i personally liked his class, but if you dont like english then do not take him--he grades essays hard.
I personally couldn't stand Mr. Genre. I found him to be arrogant, narcissistic and at times even a bit chauvinistic. He is not a "nice" teacher. He is very clear in what he wants, but you will have to jump through "flaming hoops", so to speak, to get it. Be prepared for a workout if you take his class. I dropped him and don't regret it.
Wonderful teacher! I made A's on every paper!(And he does give 100's!) He tells you EXACTLY what he wants in your papers, and how to arrage it. He looks them over and tells you what your doing right or wrong. The class before quizes, he reads the actual quiz word-for-word! He's one of the best teachers I have ever had! Just do exactly what he says!
He is funny, but that doesn't help you pass the exam. Very rude and has a pet peeve list that is three pages long. Don't take him, take Bellavia or Calloway.
You get 5 absences, and he takes late papers generally. Very helpful. Lots of science fiction jokes
I enjoy writing for fun and still found this teacher to be hard to please I did manage to snag an A in his class but had to work for it---hard, I'm a Biology major and this was the hardest and most demanding course I've taken yet....he's not terrible just hard and listen to what he tells you!
I made a B only b/c I missed ONE class too many. It is a time consuming class b/c it requires work, but it's not hard per se. If you turn in your work ON TIME, Attend class, study,& ask him to proof your papers, you should have no problem. Just don't skip more classes than he allows per syllabus.
I loved english and he is a great teacher, but he grades very hard. HE's a funny man. The quizes are easy, but i sucked at the essay because he is a teacher that is very passionate about English. If you know that you write well he is a wonderful teacher, but if you have alot of essays to do.If you write like you talk he is the wrong teacher for you
He was a great teacher, who expects his students to learn the material. I found his pet peeve list long but helpful. He is willing to meet with you and give guidance if he can. He did tell my class that he is harder on his English 102 students. I do feel he has prepared me for my next English class.
Great teacher. Very passionate about the stories and poetry. Only two tests but he goes over the info with you before hand and one paper for the semester. I hate english but i fairly enjoyed this class.
DO NOT TAKE. Grades to strict and hard. I have never had an English teacher like this in my life. He needs to slack up on being picky. Tries to be funny all the time but isn't funny. Only good thing he does is tells you exactly what will be on his quizzes. Can't say I didn't tell you so!
This teacher was pretty hard as far as grading. I do not like this teacher. He is very rude. He always made fun of me and called me names. Attendance is a must!
He grades tough, but he always gives lots of feedback so you can improve. Work hard and you'll do fine.
Hes a great teacher. makes sure you know what to do for the profiency exam. also gives voc quizes to boost your grade. not an easy a but very helpful!
Good teacher, but needs to not be so picky. I would misuse a comma and get 10 points taken off. It was ridiculous. TOO picky.
Wonderful teacher. I had him Fall 2004. I am not that perfect writer, but he help me alot. Like to 5 min meeting for the paper. Loved him so much i took him again the following semester for 232. alway give the answer to the exam the day before the exam. All you need to do pay attention, come to class, and do what he ask. He is not that hard.
A very good teacher. He makes you interested in the literture
He reads nearly everything, but towards the end, we were very pressed for time. You have to do a paper which is no big deal. There are two tests, and he reads over them the class before. You are not allowed to write anything, though. Really helps if you take the class with a friend in that sense. His class is easy, but participation is expected!!
He's an excellent teacher was very helpful.
Very good class. Kept class interesting. Only gave 2 test and had to do one paper. He reads the tests word for word but does not let you write any of that down. If you go to class and listen you will do fine. I really enjoyed the class.
he was not a good teacher for nothing i do not recomend him to any one. he is extremly hard. dont take him!
Mr. Genre has completely changed my style of writing for the better. He has laid the foundation of my writing skills. If you want to become a better writer, and desire to take your college experience seriously, please take this class. His class is not "hard." You will get what you put into it. If you plan to slack.. then dont take this class
He is a fair teacher that if you work hard, you can get an A. He will help you revise your paper's in his office beforehand so that really helps. You do have to go to class because he deducts points if you don't. If you plan on working hard for your grade, take him.
Great teacher. I'm currently taking him for 102 and plan to enroll in any of his other classes required for my major. His class is not "easy" by any means. However, if you work diligently, and follow his instructions, you will be fine.Protip: Read and take to heart his peeves list. He'll murder your papers if you strike one of his peeves!
Very interesting class. Of course its hard, its LITERATURE!
Mr. G is a fair, and honest person. If you pay attn. and follow his instructions, you will pass. He reviews the exact quiz the day before you take it. If you want to learn something in english, he is your guy. DO NOT USE YOUR CELL PHONE IN CLASS, TRUST ME.
I advise you to only take this class if it's your last choice. He's so MEAN and RUDE. Every other word that comes out of his mouth is profanity. This class is so hard. If you're not a good writer, don't take it.
Took him for 102 in Spring '09. He is hard, but if you show up and pay attention you will do fine. I didn't do so hot, but then again I didn't show up and pay attention. Follow his instructions, he is VERY picky. Do not write the word "that" in anything. Avoid it at all costs. Attend class, do EXACTLY what he says, & you should come out just fine.
Explains everything well and offers extra help
grades hard
He is so funny. He curses alot, but that is just how he is. He expplains pretty much all the stories we read. Does a great job of taking the material we read and using it in everyday senarios. Oh, yeah you do have to go to class because he count that as participation which is i think 25% of your grade. He is so funny definately take him!!!
Kind of a hard grader, but is soooo helfpul when doing proficiency. Willing to help...and even delay deadlines. Do not be afraid to ask. A pretty cool dude.
His is truly able to capture your attention in his class. He is serious about the school work, however, he has a sense of humor.
Prety nice guy. You definitely have to go to class because attendance is included in your grade. He makes you write one paper but it's pretty easy. Gives helpful reviews before midterm and final. Tries to make things interesting and explains very well. As long as you go to class and pay attention you can get an A.
He was kind of intimidating at first but ended up being one of my favorite teachers! One of the funniest and most helpful teachers I have ever had.
His grading is somewhat critical, but he gives you plenty of oppportunity to ask questions if you need help. He is very entertaining, I am not fond of essays but his lively personality makes this class one of the highlights of my day. Definately recommend.
He thinks he is funny but in fact he is very boring. Do not take him if you do not planning on going to every class because he takes off points if you miss more than one.
The are no surprises in his class. He gives you the exact questions that will be on the test and the answers, but you have to know write them verbatim. He's kind of entertaining some days. He's not a harsh paper grader either. I would recommend him and take him for my other english classes!
He is VERY harsh when grading essays. but his tests are so easy, he reads it to you the class before test day! GREAT teacher overall, taking him for my next english class!
I actually enjoyed this class. He was not boring at all. His quizes and MLA exam are super easy if you study because he gives you the exact questions the class before. Attending class is mandatory if you want to pass because it is a grade. Although, he can be a hard essay grader, he definitly prepares you for the profiency!! I passed with an A!
He's entertaining and helps a lot. You do have to go see him about your paper if you want an A though- unless you're just an exceptional writer.
This guy is not friendly, and not for the student looking for the easy A. But if you appreciate a really good challenge, he is an incredible teacher. Obnoxious, arrogant, and corny, but he really knows what he teaches.
This guy knows more about the stuff he teaches than any other teacher i have ever had. if u go to class you are ensured to get a good grade. all quiz and test questions are given word for word in the class before. He is not a harsh essay grader, but you cant get away with writing an awful paper.his cockiness is very entertaining. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
The epitome of strict but fair. Never accepts late essays unless it was Armageddon that day. Very enthusiastic & engaging, goes over all his quizzes the class before you take them. I'm told he grades essays harshly, but for a natural writer, a 95% on each won't be hard. Very procrastination-friendly for me. Rule: "If it gets done, it gets done."
Excellent professor! Very helpful and enthusiastic about what he teaches. Really helps prepare his students for the proficiency exam. Quizzes are read word for word the class before it is given.
Very Hard teacher he grades hard....I didnt drop the class and i regret not doing that
Best English professor in my opinion. Takes his job seriously and uses real life ways for you to learn.
I would've dropped his class before the drop date had he actually gotten our midterms back by then. Extremely hard grader especially when it comes to topics he enjoys. Very nice guy but also very strict. He doesn't adhere to laziness nor does he give any slack when it comes to incompetence. I felt alienated by him and the class the whole semester.
Extremely hard grader when it comes to papers. He gives a vocab and spelling quiz every few weeks. I wish I would have dropped him when i had the chance.
He is very funny but also very sarcastic. He will help you if you ask for it but he may hae an attitude while helping you. He is a very hard grader and has many pet peeves about writing that you must avoid. I like how he jokes around but i hate how harsh of a grader he is. ae his class at your own risk...
I chose this instructor because I wanted a challenge. I was confident in my ability. I don't know if I will ever enjoy writing again! He is impossible. Stay away! If he was the only instructor left, wait another semester!
He's a fantastic teacher. Very rigorous grading process. He offers the help if you need it. It's best to start his papers early, because he can tell if you haven't.
Best English teacher I've ever had! As long as you print out the outlines for the essays, follow his directions, and avoid his list of pet peeves, you will easily get at least a B in the class! Also, VERY straight forward.
He is a great professor! Always willing to help his students succeed. As long as you follow his rules, take notes, and do your work, You will pass! I strongly suggest that you take his class! :)
One of the most helpful English teachers on campus. Always willing to help answer any questions or read a paper and make revisions.
Genre is a really straightforward guy. There won't be any surprises in his class. However, I find that he does take off an excessive amount of points on essays for minor mistakes. He does give 100 points (out of a 1000 point class) at the end for perfect attendance, which tends to boost you up a letter grade. Overall,a good, funny, but hard teacher.
Very good teacher that breaks things down to a students level of understanding. Guaranteed 100 pts. for perfect attendance. Lots of work, but gives plenty of time to do the papers and ask questions during class. Highly recommend.
Yes, he is a hard grader on assignments....BUT... he let us take the MLA test HOME to complete and if you attend EVERY class he will give you 100 bonus points! if you miss one then he will give you 50.
LOVE THIS GUY. He is the best professor I have had at SELU. In contrast he is a very tough grader he expects 100 effort. BUT he is always there to help and he gives plenty of bonus. It is safe to say I actually learned a lot from him though he really is a great professor.
He's a great teacher! Gives 100 bonus points for coming to every class. 50 if you miss one. He's a tough grader, but fair. Would take him again in a heartbeat.
Genre is a good teacher. He is very clear on what he wants in his papers, and what he does not want. He is a hard grader somewhat. But he grades only what he has previously said throughout every class period. If you don't miss a single class, he gives you a 100 bonus points at the end of the semester. I would take him again if I had an option.
He's an awesome teacher, I would definitely take him again. He's picky about certain things for essays but he is very helpful. As long as you look back at the papers he graded and corrected, you'll make a better grade on the next one. He's hilarious and will give an extra 100pts just for attendance. DONT MISS CLASS.
Mr. Genre is an awesome English teacher! However, I would caution students who may say English is their weakest subject not to take them as he is a very harsh grader. He does help a lot and tells you exactly what he wants in your essays. He also gives 100 bonus points for perfect attendance and is always willing to help.
Mr. Genre is a wonderful teacher. I learned a great deal this semester and he helped to improve my writing skills. He gives many bonus points for showing up to class, which you need to do anyway because he goes over many essential things. Fair grader. Not really helpful over email. It's best to make an appt with him face-to-face. Take his class!
Awesome teacher! And I HATE english! He gives so much detail on his essays it's hard to fail, made a high B in his class, taking him again for American LIterature, he's the best!
I LOVED HIM!!!! he was the coolest teacher. He was very straight forward on what to expect. Decently easy grader. I'm horrible at writing papers and I didn't get below a B on a paper. Go to class. He helps a lot with the proficiency exam if your a freshmen taking eng 102. He was so helpful and made the class laugh. 100% take him if you can.
Mr. Genre was so great! I loved every second of his class. He is hilarious and very knowledgeable. As long as you put some effort into your assignments, follow his rules, and avoid his pet peeves (he will provide a list) then you should be just fine. Take him if at all possible! You will not regret it.
He gives a 100 bonus point at the end of the semester if you attend class every class. If you put in the work then your essays will show but if you throw something together and not go by his outlines of the essays then you wont do well. He gives you all the info you will need to do good on any essay. you just have to listen and pay attention.
This was the most amazing class Ive taken all semester. Prepare to read novel after novel week after week but its worth it! The class discussions are your key to passing with an A along with NEVER missing class. If you participate, read the novels and show up, you'll be just fine! He's a really nice man whose passionate about what he does. The best
If English isn't your best subject and if you're looking for an easy A DO NOT take him. Grades very hard, but lets you know what is expected. If you have perfect attendance you get 100 bonus points at the end of the semester.
If you want an easy A, don't take him. He is a very tough grader, but gives great feedback! I was already naturally good at English and writing essays and he helped me improve. Absolutely hilarious and gives 100 bonus points if you come to class everyday (which is a whole letter grade). I recommend him and would take him again. He's so funny.
Very good teacher but a very hard grader. I would take him again because he has made me a better writer. Be mindful of the list of pet peeves on his moodle!
I loved this class!! I think he is a fair grader, not easy and not impossible. I have made A's and B's on my papers, both of which I think were deserved!! He gives 100 bonus points (a letter grade) if you go to every class, and he also gives the directions to essays and projects in class so you should go!! I would definitely take him again!
He is a very nice teacher always dressing up in saints gear or starwars gear. He always trys to make the class fun since english is a pretty boring subject to learn because of all the long readings we have to endure. If you have him in the fall semester....... he gives you 25 bonus points for dressing up for Halloween, also his test are very easy.
I was told that American Lit was going to be rough but when I took Genre, he made sure he went into detail with each poem which made the class the whole lot better and interesting
Participation definitely matters in this class. He offers bonus points based on participation, though. The class is nothing but essays, literally. He is the world's toughest grader. You can make a D just by having slightly less than the required 4 pages. He is a good teacher though and is fair.
If you are not particularly good at writing dont take this class. Mr. Gerne is hard on MLA, grammer, and he has to many pet peeves and will not show any mercy on your paper. He is an ok teacher but at the end of the day he was difficult to learn from. However, he administered bonus points for people who showed up every class.
You have to complete your portfolio to pass. Interesting papers topics. I'm not an English person and I got an A. Always smells like smoke cause he smokes before class in his truck.
Really disorganized and confusing. Always had mini papers you have to turn in.
I love Professor Genre! Hes super corky but great. Reads and explains all the poems in class so you dont have to do it alone. There are weekly journals but if you pay attention in class they are easy.
Very good professor, grades his essays tough but you should have any problems if you put effort into them
He is a very tough grader, only thing that helped pass this class was the bonus points at the end of the year for not missing any classes. He does not have a lot of online notes, so do not miss class. If the essay is not done his way, your grade will suffer. i do not recommend taking him if english is not your strong subject.
He is the best English professor Ive taken. He knows you probably arent an English major so he makes the class super easy. Reads you most of the poems and tells you what to think about them. 2 exams, super easy. 1 essay but its optional. Journals online pretty much every week but its worth it by having this great professor.
He is a great person, but his grading is really hard. He also makes writing a paper too complicated because he adds so many stipulations or criteria on an essay. 5 sources for everything, hard copy sources (not online), cant use certain words in essays. You cant really focus on writing because you have so many other things to focus on not doing.
I honestly dont have too much of a negative view of him. He cares about his students a lot but he also doesnt hold your hand while you write. Hes a very difficult prof. but hes a good one. I messed up and didnt take him seriously not Im failing and struggling to get my grades up. Take him seriously people.
He is funny and makes the class entertaining for an American Lit class. There are two exams and weekly journals that are easy if you pay attention and take notes. He does a review for the exams and tells you the formatting. Don't skip class because he does line by line translations on everything we read that are helpful for the journals.
Genre is awesome. Super funny and keeps class entertaining. Not hard to pass if you put in the work
Mr. Genre is a great guy but if you do not enjoy English this class is not right for you. He gives very clear instructions on what he wants. So if you do not like following specific criteria you won't do well. Be ready to spend a lot of time on your papers. He does give a large 100 point bonus if you get perfect attendance which is great.
Mr. Genre is an awesome professor! He gives 100 bonus points at the end of the semester if you show up to every class (even if youre late) which is a whole letter grade difference. Hes a tough grader, but as long as you do the paper just like he says to youll be fine.
Best professor I've ever taken; he really wants to make the class enjoyable because he knows everyone is there because it's required. You have to read, or at least make an attempt to because if he sees no one is reading he'll have a pop quiz. Don't miss your exams. Easy mid-term and a final, if you miss you have to do an essay in it's place.
Mr. Genre is great. He is really funny, and he helps bring new meaning to American Literature. He likes when you participate in class and answer questions. He loves Star Wars. He gives journals about every other class, but they are not bad; they are about 250-450 words each about what we are reading in class.
I wouldn't recommend taking this class. He is a very hard grader, and he talks a lot. His grading scale is crazy as well he doesn't put your finale grade in until the end of the semester this includes the quizzes you take everyday. He will make you stay till class time is over everyday. Also he is a very corny person.
THe most amazing professor. Truly loves what he does and made me love it also after going in knowing that I am terrible in the subject and hate it! Will work with you and is very nice.
this prof. Is a good English teacher. The 1st half of the semester he does read the poems in class which is helpful but the 2nd half is long stories that you read on your own. he does not go over them and does not help you with them. He is very cocky and can come across rude. I didn't like this about him, its hard to talk to him. lots of journals
Genre is an amazing teacher. I loved being in his class. His humor really is dry, but that makes the class interesting and talkative. I would recommend taking his class if you struggle with being unmotivated because he makes learning enjoyable. There are 3 essays excluding the midterm and final. He gives a good bonus for attending class every day
Professor Genre is a great professor! Your grade comes from solely essays, so be prepared to write! Professor Genre gives great lectures on how to write these essays, so if you attend class, you will do fine. Although, Professor Genre can be a tough grader, so be aware of his resources, especially his Pet Peeves list!
He's the absolute worst professor I've ever had in my life. He's a "turn on your camera" kind of professor. Lectors are awful. He's mean. Be prepared. If I could rate him a 0 I would.
This class is an easy A, every class he reads different works and goes into detail about what it's about. For homework, you're given journals and just rewrite what he told you in class. Make sure to show up and pay attention or else you won't do well.
Has the most dry humor and will laugh in your face if you ask a question that he sees as stupid or common knowledge. Will make you feel like you're sooo beneath him. Never expect an A on a paper because he WILL find just enough wrong with it to give you a lower grade. Only upside is he gives a 100 point bonus for attending class everyday.
He gives you 100 bonus points for not missing a single class. The class is all papers obviously since this is English. He grades based on his pet peeves, but he is okay overall. His paper grading could use improvement. He grades the newspaper every morning. He came to class sick with Pneumonia and Upper Respiratory Infection which are contagious!
Dudes a straight up ding dong. If you dont go to class he will fail you in a second. If you are a struggling English student do not take this professor he will laugh in your face if he feels the question you are asking is stupid. Will not help you if you email him something stupid he will simply not respond. DO NOT TAKE THIS DING DONG!!!
P. Genre is a great professor if you aren't lazy. If you don't get an A or B in this class, you should reconsider being in college. He expects you to show up to class, EASY. If you have perfect attendance you get 100 BONUS points, and there's 100 points just for participation. If essays aren't your thing, there are resources for you!
MrGenre is a tough teacher. He is not the most caring when it comes to his class however if you stick it through he does become more generous as the semester goes on. He does laugh whenever you ask a stupid question every now and again. He is also a"turn on your camera"kind of teacher. However, the 100 bonus for showing up to every class saves you.
Listen, good nice guy, but god he is such a hard grader, super tough on MLA format. But he does give you 100 bonus points at the end if you come every day. Super funny and lets you pick your topics for most essays. Stuff from class is super important so make sure you go. Can be very sarcastic.
He reads and explains everything you need to do your homework and as long as you go to class its an easy A
Super funny nice guy, you get bonus at the end if you come every day of the semester. Don't expect the class to ever get canceled though. If you like to skip he is not the teacher for you. Big on MLA format. only grade is 3 essays final and midterm.
Super easy class but wouldn't recommend him at 8 AM. He's on you about phones so don't use them. You get a lot of journals but they're super easy if you go to class because he tells you the answer. You get daily "quizzes" on sticky notes. Tests are easy, he does a review. Never really lets you out early, reads until the last second of class.
not a bad person at all but extremely tough grader, I've never made lower than a B on an essay and my average grade for his class on essays is a C+. You HAVE to put in the work. don't take if you want an easy grade
Don't take if you want an easy english class, before I never made below an A on an essay but the way he grades is EXTREMELY difficult my average is a C, tough on grammar ran my entire essay through grammarly and other sites to check grammar and still not good enough. Takes off points for every little thing. Cool guy but acts like his class is life.
as a person he's nice but as a teacher he sucks. grades super hard and doesn't explain why yo got the grade
professor genre was a pretty good teacher. Not a teacher to take at 8 am but he gives lots of extra credit so go to class every day. he is a very tough grader, but all the extra credit I ended up with an A
He was a very difficult grader; however he did allow me to submit late essays due to my circumstances. I did not attend many classes, so that was my mistake. I recommend attending class if you want a better grade than I got. Multiple essays, most of them being his interests.
I absolutely loved him. He reminded me lots of my favorite high school English teacher. He has very strict deadlines though, so be prepared. Gives lots of bonus opportunities, so don't miss class. Very tough grader and can be picky at times, but overall great. I HIGHLY recommend going to him regarding questions!!
one of the best English teachers i have had. he is very specific about what he wants in the essays but he makes sure that we are told exactly what he wants. if you follow his rubrics and be aware of his pet peeves you will do good in his class. he also offers a 100 point bonus for simply showing up so fr just take him.
Hooh-boy, Mr Genre is a very tough grader. He will drill into your head his pet peeves on essays and will mark off your essay for a lot of small things. He himself is funny and nice to be around, however his grading self is very cold.
One of the best English 232 teachers ever! Each class he reads and thoroughly explains different works of literature, if you take notes while he is talking everything will be fine! There are journals due every week and this is most of your grade, along with a mid-term and final! Overall a very easy option!
I would not take this professor again. From the beginning he gave everyone good grades but me until I reached out and showed I actually care about my grades. If extra credit wasn't a thing in this class I would not have passed most likely or if I did it would be with a 70 exactly. The extra credit brought my class average to a 80. Tough grader.
VERY VERY TOUGH GRADER!!
professor genre is a really great teacher and person but good god, he is a tough and cold grader. will dock marks for the slightest issues or mistakes but if you read through his pet peeves and his requirements, you should not be too worried. he also gives 100 bonus points for perfect attendance so if your essays scored low, the bonus helps!
Lectures are AMAZING! This man deserves a raise! There are a lot of journals but if you attend class and TAKE NOTES, you will be fine. Pay attention. He does question of the day on stuff from the previous class and it helps with participation and attendance.
Very simplistic, yet effective class layout. Typically, 1 weekly journal worth 15 points, and 2 exams worth 300 points each. Show up to class, take notes, participate, you'll do fine. Effort is the key in this class.
I love this man. He's very strict about phones but if you just pay attention you'll get on his good side. Dry humor. You do have to be a good writer to make good grades. His class is actually useful and you learn things. A lot of people complain about him but he responds quick and communicates well.
Professor Genre is a tough grader, but if you follow his rubrics and stay on top of attendance, you'll do well. The workload is intense, but utilizing resources like Unstuck study for study prep can really help. Overall, it's a challenging class, but rewarding if you put in the effort.
Very rude & snarky I did not like the way he talked to the class and he doesn't separate his personal beliefs from the classroom.
He's cool, yaps a little and a tough grader, but overall a good professor. Shows a lot of passion in his job.
This professor was extremely offensive the whole semester. He is very rude and makes lame dad jokes in every class. His grading scale is based on points out of 150. I would not recommend him nor take his class ever again. He does not need to be a teacher.
Very down-to-earth. Vulgar and sarcastic but never unkind. Wants his students to succeed; prepares them as much as possible. Meticulous but fair grader. Very trusting - open-book MLA exam taken at home, midterm & final w/Google Meet. Let me take final a day late for a personal scheduling conflict. Hefty bonus for perfect or near-perfect attendance.
He is a good professor. Yes, he does make jokes but he actually loves his job. I would say his class is easy. We had two essays to do throughout the semester and like a paragraph or two was due each class. and u also get extra credit from perfect attendance! I would take his class again.
Pretty easy class. Journals are due 1-2 times a week on assigned readings, but he reads most of them in class. Pay attention and take good notes; he gives you everything you need to know. Open note final and midterm, and he goes over the entire tests before you take them. No other tests. Just don't use AI when writing and you'll do really well!
Professor Genre was a good professor and I would recommend him, however, his class does feel a bit mundane at times. He gives extra credit for attending class which is needed because of the limited amount of grades for the class. We had two essays, one essay revision, and a final. Anything else was attendance/homework.
There were 3 argumentative essays for this class and the final. If you want to pass this class, be prepared to work. Bonus points for perfect attendance. The hardest part about this class was coming up with arguments and opposing arguments. I didn't care for this professor's personality, but I did what I needed to do to pass.
