Not a good professor. He makes homework and test really hard. dont even bother working in book problems, they look nothing like the problems on the test. sucks he is the only professor teaching this class.
I've almost finished with this class and all i've learned is that this teacher can't teach. He makes up all his questions, half the time they make no sense. The labs were a joke. He makes you feel as if you know nothing about chem. He is really easy to make fun of, which is the only plus of this class. You learn more from TA than him. STAY AWAY!
This teacher is a discrace! You don't learn anything from this class except how to wipe off your fingerprints off of your glasswear. He told the class that he makes up problems that you can't find anywhere else, so the book is pretty pointless. The labs are all messed up. He talks down to you and makes you feel stupid. Don't take him.

This instructor has a PhD in Chem, and he thinks his Analytical chem students magically skipped all these years of college and graduated with the PhD.Makes students feel very stupid. He writes his own problems but he can't solve them without his notes.2-3 errors a week!Your will not know your grade the entire semester, until the last day!Worse instr
This is a really hard class. I recommend going to office hours and try to squeeze all the information you can out of him. Study the homework problems and problems he does during class. study forward and backward ways of solving them and youll be fine. there is a big curve so dont trip if your not dong that well
He is an okay professor i do not really like him that much. his exams were tough. his class is so boring. uhhh.
he's alright. not as bad as everyone thinks he is. the class is pretty hard and he even understands that. if you go to his office hours and try to be at least a day ahead of the notes, and no one screws up the curve, you should be straight.
Take a pillow to the lecture and have sweet dreams, otherwise you'll get headache! There are only two problems with his lectures - he does not understand the material and has no idea where all these things came from. Do not expect to get clear answer to your questions - he will probably have no idea about any details.
Lectures can be boring sometimes, but that is expected with this material. Don't shy from his office hours, they are tremendously helpful. Really cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed
I liked his teaching style, but the subject is very dry; he admits it as well.HW is easy & he'll help you w/it if you go to his office hours.Double check your lab calculations w/him before you turn them in;labs effect your grade(dropped me to a B+).Tests are hard! Some questions are similar to hw or practice tests & some u've never seen.MUST study!
Great professor. I liked his teaching style a lot. He is super organized with his material, posts all slides online as well as homework, practice tests, and actual recordings of his lectures. Pretty funny guy and will help a lot in office hours. Even though its a dry subject he tries to make it interesting. Decent curve at the end too.
Although the class is difficult, Harrison makes it worthwhile. He is passionate about teaching chemistry, and it shows. He spends loads of time helping students and truly cares about them.. Also has a good sense of humor. Tests are hard... not enough time to complete them. Go to his office hours, ask questions, and read lab tips he posts online.
Dr. Harrison is an amazing professor. He knows his stuff, so don't be afraid to ask questions. He is Super helpful. I loved this class, just make sure that you always come prepared (bring the lecture notes and in-class questions).
This class requires your full attention in order to do well. Professor Harrison did very well on being helpful by providing slides and example problems to help you along the way. The tests are hard to finish on time, but he has other areas for you to earn points and buffer your grade. I got an A-, but it wasn't an easy one to earn. So good luck!
This class is stupid tough, I only passed because of the curve. When a 58% is a C you know some crazy stuff had to go down. Do all the homework and prepare for everything and you might get a decent grade. On the tests he likes to make you think so don't bother memorizing the practice exams make sure you actually know how to do them.
Great Professor! Chem itself is a tough subject. Be prepared to dedicate your attention to this course as it is a lot of work. READ THE BOOK! His lectures aren't all that exciting but he is always willing to help and guide you in the right direction. tests are super hard, but just stay on top of your work and get all the points you can
They make the class a lot harder than it should be event hough it's a STEM weeder class. Harrison does an alright job at teaching but expect to learn a lot on your own.
Extremely difficult course, be prepared to live, eat, and breathe chemistry but still end up with a B-/C. In office hours Harrison was extremely helpful, but had way to high of expectations. If you can avoid taking this with Harrison, do yourself a favor.
VERY DIFFICULT CLASS! If you do not read the book before going to the lecture, you will not understand 90% of what he is talking about. The online homework is a large part of the grade so make sure you do it. Exams were written by him and were problems that the TA's didn't go over in the small section. Labs are relatively easy. Avoid taking him!
If you invest the proper amount of time in this class you can get an A but it may be difficult. He posts all lectures online and does very well at explaining concepts. He scales down the grades, so an 85% is still an A.
This class is pretty easy but the tests are way harder than they need to be. The averages for his exams are always around a 55%. He helps a lot if you go to office hours.
It is almost impossible to pass. It is general chem but you feel like you're inventing chemicals to cure cancer. Exams are written by aliens. Avoid at all costs
This class is EXTREMELY hard. You must be prepared to understand chemistry like the back of your hand. His tests are very unexpected and theres never enough time to do them. I got a solid A, but I spent about 30+ hours a week studying for this class. READ THE BOOK! At least twice. Most people fail. good luck!

WORST CLASS EVER. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Every professor, administrator, and TA looks down on you like you're worthless scum. Class is so hard, didn't pass by about a percent or two and I worked my butt off.
He is very clear, helpful, and knowledgable. He records the lectures, gives you past exams/quizzes, does everything he can to help you. He gives you everything you need but you have to put the time and effort in to pass. 15 hour minimum for studying. Not an easy A, but an A IS possible especially with a curve.
Very organized and relaxed guy who truly loves chemistry, he gives you many resources and puts everything online, but its not an easy class so you must do the reading and work.
I took this class last semester but still I have nightmares about it. I get that its a hard subject but he makes the tests impossible to pass. Lectures are pointless. Labs are easy. You have to teach yourself. You have to dedicate your life to this class. All chem professors are horrible but at least they curve unlike this guy
He's a very smart guy, but wow, he makes chemistry hard! His tests are killer! I had to put in some major hours of studying and use some serious online resources like clutch prep to get a good grade. I wouldn't necessarily discourage taking his class. Just know what you're getting into.
I took his class two years ago when it was his first time teaching chem 200. For all those who think he is hard you have no idea what you are taking about, the material itself is the hardest part of the course. You have to study off the book and go over the material at least 1-2 hours everyday in order to get a good grade.
Harrison doesn't mess around when it comes to chemistry. His class is really tough, but he's a cool guy who is willing to help you if you need it. He won't turn you away if you ask for help and is totally in love with chemistry. He cares that you understand it and will do anything he can to make it clearer.
Got mad that people weren't showing up to small sections or the help room, but his lectures had pretty decent attendance. He's Canadian + he cussed sometimes. Very passionate about chemistry, and pretty helpful. Compared to the other chem 200 lecturers he was the best.
Harrison is a really good teacher. He is so in love with chemistry and knows how to explain it clearly. He posts his lectures online and these lectures are basically what made me pass this class. He puts everything online and in a dropbox folder. He is very willing to help you with anything. I always got an email back whenever I asked a question.
He is genuinely a nice guy, however he does expect a lot of his students (which is understandable, I guess). He is quick to respond to email, (which I find rare at times), and is up to date with technology. Overall this class made me realize that I hate Chem, and to avoid it like the plague. I'll be changing majors this semester.
Chemistry is naturally hard, but Harrison makes it somewhat easier. The tests, while challenging, are not impossible. Honestly if you like chem and study you'll pass easily. If you suck at math, haha, good luck, you'll need it. Overall Harrison really tries to help his students get it. If you suck go to his office hours. He's really helpful.
Super gentle guy. Very sweet and willing to help. If you can make it to his office hours or Theresa Carlson - GO! They will help you with any and all questions and will not get stumped no matter how hard the question. Overall the course was similar to Chem 100 but slightly harder concepts, So basically Hard! This a serious course. - Take it:)
This class was rather difficult. If you have nothing else important to focus on and dedicate your life to it, it can be done.
This class was the hardest class I've ever taken but it was super rewarding. The tests are pretty hard but Harrison is a great lecturer. He is extremely helpful so try to visit him at his office hours. Most of the TAs are helpful and know a lot about chemistry but some of them are kind of clueless.
Worst teacher I've ever taken at SDSU. Rambles on during his lectures about more advanced concepts that aren't even relative. On his exam he adds extra steps that we didn't practice the entire section. Seems like he's just trying to trick you on exams. Final is cumulative. Read the book and be ready to teach yourself because he isn't going to.
Harrison gives you the tools to make the class less excruciating. He posts the lectures online and posts test solutions on Dropbox. However, he is very confusing. Talks too fast, is unclear and is very disorganized. His tests are very tough and are rarely related to the lectures or the textbook. Not to mention that he graded our first midterm wrong
Chem 200 is a feared class at SDSU, but it is easy to pass. Try your hardest on the homework, quizzes, and lab reports and you can bomb every test and pass with a C. Harrison is really good at lectures, but his exams can be tricky so be aware. He posts all his lectures online so no one really went to class. Take Harrison NOT Polk or Chatfield.
What you put into the class will increase your chances of what you will get out of it! Therefore, go to the help room for tutoring, write down or read the lectures, and do the homework (plus get o.k. lab reports). That is how I passed the class and I RARELY touched the book since the lectures were enough! He is a great Prof., but just a hard class!
Best teacher I've had at SDSU so far. Very very helpful, goes out of his way to be at the Chem 200 help room even when he isn't assigned there. Take advantage of the help room, being able to get answers to your questions is incredibly useful for a class this difficult. Be sure to study, take notes and do homework; it will make or break your grade.
What you put into the class, you get out. Dr. Harrison is very helpful and even records his class lectures, so if you miss a class or need clarification you can rewatch them.
Harrison is a good professor but he goes pretty fast in his lectures. When you go into the Chem Help Room he'll sometimes pop in and be super helpful.
Harrison is an okay teacher. Don't really understand anything that is said in lecture so I have to teach myself. You constantly have HW that you spend hours and hours and hours on. Test are super tough so study!!! Do your best on quizzes cause they can help your grade. Do an average job in lab and you'll be fine. Chem will become your life here.
Fell asleep in literally every lecture that I stopped going. Boring lectures where he talks about things that are never on the exams. The exams are the hardest ever especially the "concept" questions because he never mentions them or they'll be said once without any emphasis. So far I have a 63% before the final. Hoping to just pass.. :(
Harrison is the main lecturer for what is considered the weeder class for both engineering and biology majors. Naturally, that class is considered very hard. Personally, I had no trouble with the class since I understood the book very well and thus didn't need to go to classes. Expect a few hours of homework and studying per week.
Look, Chemistry itself is not easy so do not go into this class expecting to do amazing with little to no effort. Professor Harrison was a great lecturer who totally took time to answer questions and help you if you asked for it. If you spend the recommended time working and studying for this class you will be successful.
This class was ridiculously difficult. Would study for hours and hours and my highest test score was a 75%. Chemistry is a hard subject as it is, but this class was insane. 30% of class failed. If you have the option and time to do chem 100 first, especially incoming freshman who do not have much chem experience, I suggest taking that before.
I went to some of Harrison's lecture because Polk is not a competent and reliable educator. Harrison records his lecture online so physical attendance is not mandatory. The first two exams and final was difficult, third one was fair. I had 60% average on all tests. Discussion section helps somewhat. I studied from Clutch Prep and it is very helpful
Harrison knows his chemistry. He posts lectures online so you don't need to go to class and if you need extra help the help room is useful. The tests are tough, I got a 70% average on all of them. Do well on the labs and homework and you should pass w/ average tests scores. The grading scale is curved, but you have to study and work for an A.
Very helpful, responds quickly to email questions. Lectures are posted online, class hours are used to answer questions/class concerns. Tests are tricky but not impossible if you do all the practice problems he hands out. A few interesting homework assignments. Labs graded solely on your accuracy, no reports. Final presentation.
He's not as bad as people say. The class and material are the reason it's hard, not him. He does his best, but when people ask for help he does not really care and is arrogant. 200/202 is just a tough class, be ready for a lot of homework
The course itself is pretty hard but Harrison is the best professor to have. He recognizes that it's hard for us and uses a lot of analogies to teach. He's not one of those professors that know everything and think you know everything too.
Tough class, however Professor Harrison genuinely cares about his students. Tons of help available, if you work hard you will succeed.
THIS CLASS IS HARD. There is no denying that, you have to work for it. HOWEVER, Harrison is a great lecturer that works to make it make sense. He takes questions, so ask them. If you have other questions, go to the Help Room. If you need it, he posts his lectures on Swivl, but I still suggest going to lecture.
Harrison is an exceptional professor. The best advice I can give for this class is show up. He posts his lectures online, recorded and all, but too many of my friends and peers fell into the habit of never showing up or watching them. Go to lecture, take the notes, understand the material covered asap. If there's something you don't understand ASK.
This class is a really tough course, but Prof. Harrison was definitely the best professor to take. His lectures would get boring at times, but he went over everything you needed to know in a clear manner. Study the practice exams, the midterms are very similar.
Prof Harrison was a good lecturer but the class was still extremely difficult. He posts all of his lectures online so its easy to catch up if you miss a class but you definitely have to work for your grade.
This class is extremely hard but Harrison is by far the better teacher to take. His lectures are extremely clear (slightly fast paced but that's to be expected) and if you show up and do the homework you'll pass. If you skip lectures, you won't. Harrison is a great teacher but he can't do anything for you if you don't participate.
There's about one homework a week, which is about one chapter a week. He makes a tough subject as straight forward as possible and there's TONS of help available if you need it. There are plenty of resources, the online version of the book is free, and he is very clear on what will be on the exams. The labs aren't hard, just kinda tedious.
This class is extremely difficult and Harrison intentionally complicates things that could be fairly simple. The material is hard and Harrison does not explain things well. Homework is online and fairly often, online textbook, and records the lectures for if you missed class. One positive is that there is plenty of time for the tests
Prof Harrison is awesome. Don't get me wrong, the class is HARD, but that's the just the material. Harrison does his absolute best to help you understand the material needed for exams. Just make sure you take advantage of the SI sessions available. If you're unfortunate enough to get Holland instead... GOOD LUCK.
Chem 200 is a hard class, but Harrison is very good at simplifying the learning material and using analogies in lectures to make sure his students understand everything. Your best option for Chem 200.
I definitely recommend you take Chem 100 first otherwise it'll be tough. Harrison is a great lecturer, does plenty of examples in class, and answers all your questions. This class does have a lot of material though, so be prepared for a long semester. Each midterm only seems to cover 2-4 chapters though.
He is a really great professor, however, Chem 200 is a really tough course. I would, however, choose Harrison over Holland for this course just due to the quality of teaching difference.
He's a good professor, but this is a very demanding course. I wish I realized the sample exams are usually nothing like the exams. You will survive, though! Good luck.
He knows the material well. The course is very challenging and demanding. Keep up on ALL your work. His lectures are fast and hard to keep up with, so getting outside help or teaching yourself would be very beneficial. SAMPLE EXAMS ARE MUCH EASIER THAN THE ACTUAL EXAMS.
Chem 200 is one of the most notorious classes on campus. Although the class is hard, Harrison is a great professor and cares a lot about his students. If you want to do well, you must work for it. It is not impossible to get an A, but you have to take this class seriously. Use the sample exams to your benefit!
Took it in Fall 16' as a freshman and I haven't taken chemistry in two years. Definitely put in the work and you'll see the results. With the limited choices of 200 professors, Harrison is definitely the way to go. He cracks a joke every now and then, which was nice considering how dead I felt during lectures. Labs are time-consuming but do-able
It's a tough class that Harrison makes as manageable as possible. If you put in the work, attend lectures, and study for tests, you'll get positive results. Lectures aren't boring and he provides a lot of chances to get help outside of class (SI sessions, office hours, help room). You'll get out of the class what you put in.
Easy A course. Just do your homework and you'll already have half the points. Pass all exams with low B's and you can get an A.
Harrison is a great professor. Chem 200 is a very hard course, however Harrison does a great job of teaching the material and he makes lecture a lot more enjoyable.
Harrison is a very good professor to take for this course. Im not going to sugarcoat it: the material for CHEM200 is pretty tough. But Harrison lectures very well and provides a lot of practice through the homework. My advice: study throughout the entire semester, and practice the homework. The exams are very conceptual so cramming wont work.
Harrison is by far the best choice for a chem200 professor. However, the course itself is difficult, and very time consuming. Lectures are recorded and put online, homework takes forever online. Harrison will occasionally crack a joke to try to lighten things up. If you put the effort in by going to office hours/help room and SI, you'll get it.
I take analytical chemistry at SDSU-G right now and at the end of the semester I can say that Harrison is very knowledge and organized professor. Also, he's not a tough grader. He doesn't make the course difficult, all you need to do is to study and master lab techniques. If I had a chance I'd definitely take his class again
I do not think anyone can teach Analytical Chemistry better than Dr. Harrison. I wish I had him in chem 200 and chem 201 too. His homeworks were just amazing. Extremely difficult, but still amazing (you will see). Exams were fair. . You need to be very accurate in lab to get high grades! Do not waste time on initial calibration!!!!!!
Hes a great guy and professor. Really tries to makes exams fair. My class was flipped so half online and half in class and I honestly wish every one if my classes was like this
By far the best class I've taken at state. The lectures are online and 10-45 minutes long which is great for people with short attention spans (me). The exams are hard but the class is curved and there are so many opportunities to gain points elsewhere. I loved being able to ask questions and work with others during the actual class period.
Harrison and Holland switch out halfway thru the semester, hes better than Holland, lots of annoying assignments, dont really have a choice in prof for chem 202 - just go with holland and harrison, lecture non-mandatory - recommend watching lecture later at 2x speed - most of the time they just walk you thru algebra, dont bother reading the book.
Harrison knows his stuff but his lectures are pretty boring. The lectures for chem 200 are pretty vague compared to the exams and the homework, and theres a ton of homework. Sometimes he didn't get through all the lecture material before the test/homework was due so you kinda have to teach yourself or go to OH.
Professor Harrison has been one of my favorite Chemistry Professors at SDSU. Instead of lecturing he gives you videos to watch before the week begins and during the week you work on the homework with a group. The test questions are taken straight from the previous tests as well as the homework questions you do.
Dr. Harrison is one of my favorite professors here at SDSU. The difference between him and other professors is he really cares about his students also his class format makes it easier on his students which was half online and half in person. If I can have him for every class I would definitely pick him!
Lazy grader. Didn't have any exam graded until two days before the final exam for the course. He even admitted to being lazy himself. Barely curved the class. He's great for 251 but I would have taken 550 with another prof if I could :/
Chem 251 is a difficult class. Lectures are posted online at start of semester and weekly HW assignments done in groups. Labs can be difficult to get full credit on since it is based on quantitative accuracy. Exams are majority of grade. Do the past exams if you want to do well. Go over all HW problems and problems sets to prepare for exams.
Harrison doesn't teach a thing, he just posts pre-recorded videos from years ago. Very difficult to get full credit on labs. HW grade is influenced by group participation. He gets lazy half way through the semester and reuses old exam questions but just changes numbers. Study old exams/redo hw problems to study for exams. Lowest exam dropped.
Don't join his research lab! His lab is disorganized and he expects you to know the rules when he always changes them. I graduated last year and I still hate research because of his lab. The phd student made a very unwelcoming environment and got annoyed when an undergrad needed her help. Im grateful for what I learned but I would NEVER do it again
Pre-recorded lectures with weekly group homeworks. Total of 4 test + a c. final with partial credit throughout the grading. Lab is long and graded by how close you were to the unknown. I loved this class, definetly hard but very rewarding. Practice! old and current test and hw questions. Dr. H is funny and always there to help.
This class was brutal. Although analytical chemistry is a generally hard topic, Harrison does nothing to help. Lecture videos are outdated, and he constantly contradicts himself. Homework is done in groups, and it only benefits those who slack off and get carried by the members who actually do the homework. Lab is hard but most TAs are helpful.
Chem 251 with Prof. Harrison is challenging but rewarding. Lectures are online, and homework is done in groups - use unstuck AI to ace the exams. Labs can be tough, but TAs are helpful. Worth the effort for the A!
