Decent prof but hard class, lots of information but little words on slides so you must be prepared to take lots of notes, exams are pretty hard

Prof did not handle the transition to online course delivery well. All tests were multiple choice only but were fully sequential with only one question available at a time and incredibly short timelines despite issues with ISPs and CULearn. Questions often were intentionally worded poor & the "optional" text is actually kinda mandatory in hindsight

You can tell prof. Herdman really cares about his students and enjoys teaching. However, he sometimes goes off on tangents and I would not recommend this course while it's being delivered online. All lectures are pre-recorded (2+ hours each) and if you don't write every detail down, you won't do well on the quizzes.

This course is not nearly as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be. The whole course is weighted by 3 equal tests, though the questions can be worded very confusing they aren't undoable. Lectures are long and the prof will spend a great deal on review sometimes, but with being online you can just skip those parts. Overall 8/10 class.

Extremely caring, wants you to do well and makes sure to give lots of demonstrations of more difficult concepts during classes to ensure students understand. Also will go over anything again in lots of detail if you make sure to ask!! Need to attend lectures to fill in the slide decks but tests were fair and straight forward. Highly recommend!!

1/3 of the way through the semester. Writing this now, seeing as students seem to assess profs on their ability to deliver classes that require little-to-no critical engagement to earn high grades. Herdman is engaging & caring; he creates fair & adequately challenging exams & holds routine live q&a sessions, which he posts for all students.

Asks you not the buy the textbook, the tests are made up mostly of textbook material and few in class examples. Questions on tests are not clear, sometimes including information not covered in the course, or referred to by different names/titles.

Dr Herman is an amazing professor! He is extremely caring about his students and it quick to give accommodations when needed! I had made a mistake and had another important commitment at the same time as the midterm and he allowed me to write at a later time with short notice! He answered quickly. Would def take another class with him!!

Dr. Herdman was by far my favourite professor I had last semester. His explanations and in-class demos help to demonstrate a lot of concepts that seem quite challenging. Dr. Herdman is so evidently passionate about what he teaches which is refreshing. Your grade is based off of 3 equally weighted quizzes so make sure you understand the content well

Caring and truly a lovely guy, but his lectures are very long and very boring, so brace yourself. Textbook is not mandatory & while I didn't read it, many have said his exams are a reflection of textbook material. And you have to pay attention to all 2.5 hours of his lecture or you'll miss important exam information.

Dr. Herdman is very knowledgeable about cognitive science and is very passionate about this field. He is your nerdy dad explaining to everyone something very boring but that you can't help but get a bit intrigued by because of his level of enthusiasm. The course is more science-y than other psych courses. Online class is pre-recorded in class lecs.

Took this class online in fall 2022 and it was the worst class I've taken by far. Exams are extremely unfair. Very specific, textbook-based (even though buying the textbook was supposed to be optional), and weirdly worded questions. We also couldn't go back on questions and the time limit was extremely unfair. Do not take this class online!

Dr. Herman is passionate about what he teaches. He is very caring and he will gladly help if you have any questions. He does a lot of class demos which really help better understand the material and I found that it also helps remember the content. One of the nicest profs I've ever had and he is very engaging in his lectures.

I'm going to start off by saying that this course was very challenging, it is test heavy and the content is not easy. With that said, Dr. Herdman made it understandable in a unique way, every lecture was accompanied by a recreations of cogsci experiments to help us understand the topics more. Go to class, take good notes, study, and you'll be fine

Didn't quite get the grade I wanted due to circumstances out of my control for the second exam, however was told i could not have a rewrite, or do anything to change it, so that sucked. Other than that, great prof. Write down everything (and I mean everything) he says, and make sure you study, as when i did it, it was 3 equally weighed exams.

Interesting course. Grade is based on 3 equally weighted multiple choice exams. If you can easily store and quickly retrieve course material from long term memory - you will do great. I should get a higher grade, just for this connection :) As an alternative, recommend requesting accommodations for additional time to complete exams (if eligible).

Nice, passionate guy for the material. I'm sure he was an excellent prof 15-20 years ago. But material is quite outdated. He expects you to be really engaged, pay attention, and take note of details. Challenging to do with material that it 30-60 years old.

I took this class because I am super interested in Cognitive Psychology. However, his uploaded lectures are from 2017, and his notes are from 2019. Exams are hit or miss, but I just wish his content wasn't from seven years ago, as I feel like a lot of it is outdated, and it is hard to stay engaged. Is he real lol?

Dr Herdman seems like a wonderful person, however the issue with the online course is the lecture videos are very outdated and the prof regularly experiences technical difficulties. On top of this each lecture video is between 2 and 2 1/2 hours long. It is very difficult to stay engaged in these videos, plus the slides are very unhelpful.

I enjoyed how he teaches and explains the lectures. He made things easy to understand. I didn't like the final exam. The wording for some questions was odd compared to the other tests, and there was a lot of "none of the above" or "both a and c" question options which I just don't like. If that's something you don't mind then definitely take him.

Dr. Herdmen is a nice man but as this was an online class, it was hard to watch a 2 and half lecture when the lectures themselves are outdated. There are two tests that are online and you can't go back to check your answers. There is no textbook for this course, only the long lectures to rely on. The material is not cumulative.
