nice guy who genuinly cares about his students getting better tr public speaking. Somewhat of a hard grader, but it's for the best as it really helps to improve your speech skills.

The class was about what I expected. Had a bit of a hard time, writing speeches isn't easy stuff. But, he has got to be the kindest, most friendly professor I've ever had. He actually remembered my name a year later and still says hello,[name] to me everytime I see him on campus. Cool guy.

Prof. Holfester is one of the sharpest teachers at Suffolk. He respects his students and is enthusiastic, fun, and engaging. I transferred to a Fla school and took public speaking. What I learned in his class from 1 speech helped me get an A in public speaking after I did 5 speeches in this class!

holfesters class is lively, not one of those ones you nod out in from time to time. I dont think he was a tough grader, I aced his class. Just show up and do the work and the reading and you'll enjoy the class. He is also down to earth and personable. I would definately recommend him A+++

Great professor! He makes class extremly interesting and has a great teaching style so class time flies by. Tests are only hard if you don't read the textbook. Actually wants the students to participate, so as long as you make a few comments you are fine. I would only not reccommended to take him if you are late to class alot.

great professor at suffolk. He is really nice and is always willing to help his students. He clarifies everything gives you a review for a test. its hard if you dont read the textbook. i think his tests will be descent, but i havent started taking it yet. would love to have him again.

The first day of class i thought to myself this is going to be an aweome symester, then he played the favorite game, i had nothing but respect twords him i did all the work ontime but he did not acknowlege this at all, yet he notices when his favorites do it. Its not right and it doesnt give me any drive to do good when im not getting any credit.

He is a great professor, very helpfull and clear. For summer course, he gave 1 T/F, one shart answer,one take home test and one informative speech. Fair grader on test, gives many extra credit but grade them hard. Be carefull with attandance! One thing I hated was,he plays favorite.

He is a great teacher. He teaches thoroughly, and he grades fairly. He loves to tell stories. I take him for a night class and he definitely keeps everyone interested and awake. You must read the textbook and take notes. People say he takes favorites, but if you participate he really doesn't.

I have him now I think he's an awesome professor. He really does not pick favorites. He's very helpful and cares about all his students. Make sure you read every chapter of the textbook that is assigned. Attendance is very important in this class so try not to miss any. He makes this class fun and interesting. hes has some really nice eyes, but he is nice and is very clear on his tasks even though when it comes to some tasks hes not clear at all. hes easy to understand, but he plays favorites overall.

Holfester is the most interesting prof. ever. He's a little harsh on attendance but it's only to help you out. He makes sure that you're up to date with work and that you're doing well (grade wise). He doesn't leave any information out for what you need to know for tests and knows his material perfectly. Take him at least one semester!

He's always making everyone laugh and loves to have strong discussions. If you got to SCCC, you'd be silly not to take his communication courses!

An excellent teacher, very amusing and insightful. I looked forward to school, even though I gave up part of my summer. He makes you work, but it is all relevant, and it brought out the best in me. Very handsome man, combined with his sense of humor I felt the class was worth my time and money! If you take this class you will learn and enjoy it!

He's OK. He is very passionate about what he teaches and he keeps you interested, but he gives alot of work and when you take notes you must follow while he's talking bc his writing is all over the place on the board. But overrall he is willing to help with whatever assigment he gives.

Gives good notes, tests are easy, textbook isn't absolutely necessary. its an easy A if you take notes and do the informative speech. his class is pretty interesting as well, and it's the one class I look foward to. He is unorganized though and might lose your papers so make sure you have them saved just in case.

very strict on work and gives a lot of it. very nice guy, always on top of you to get you're work done, if you're taking a lot of hard classes i wouldn't recommend it because of the amount of work, but if you're schedule is light, he's a great guy. a few tests, a how to speach, and smaller homework pojects

Holfester is a great Communications professor. He knows what he's doing and makes sure that everyone else knows it too before moving on. He writes EVERYTHING on the board that you'll need to know and I've taken some excellent quality notes because of that. If you're taking Communications or Public Speaking, go Holfester.

Professor Holfester was a great professor. He was helpful, and very clear with his instructions. As long as you did the homework (lots of textbook reading, and research for your presentation), you got good grades.

The funniest man I have ever met. I actually really enjoyed his class I think I must of laughed the entire time. Work is no joke, def do it and try your best. He will reward anyone who tries. VERY helpful. MUST TAKE HIM!!!!

Great teacher. Provides strong encouragement and shows enthusiasm in what he teaches. However, he weighted one speech a little too heavily into the final grade. He expects MUCH out of this second but last final speech that you have to give in COM101. Not much leniency for shyness while giving this speech.

Very helpful. Although the work load may seem like a lot you aquire many valuable skills. He goes beyond just helping his students. Willing to sit and do academic advising, help you work on your speech, ect. Very dedicate to having students walk away with knowledge and not just a grade. If you have the oppertunity to take Holfester, do it.

This was one of the best courses that I took at Suffolk. Holfester was truly cared for his students and was passionate in what he taught. You'll learn alot from this class. The work load really isnt that bad. I found it to be particulary easy but at the same time you'll learn alot.

His class was my toughest class! If you are absent for any of the speeches, he will give you an incomplete for the semester. He does speaks clearly. If you have a learning challenge, at first he will help you and then if you don't know the speech policy, he gets mad at you. I am happy to learn how to public speak.

You will learn a lot about public speaking! He knows a lot, motivational, helpful professor. Be prepared to work hard and show up to class everyday! Additionally he will help you with your schedule. Amazing teacher.

He was an awesome professor! He is very passionate of what he does! The class was very interesting and was not hard at all. If you pay attention and do the work, it will be an easy A! We were assigned one essay, two tests (if I'm correct), and a speech at the end.

I absolutely loved his class and was definitely one of the best professors I've ever had. Definitely take him. He is very understanding so if you need help definitely ask. He's so passionate about his class. He doesn't like people always missing his class and with him as your professor you really shouldn't. I recommend him 100%. Loved the groups

Really cares about his students. Gets frustrated if you don't put the work in. Goes through the speech making process really slowly and thoroughly. But after the first speech it gets a lot harder. Not impossible but you have to stay on top of your own work. Really fair. There is a free PDF version of the textbook online.

Absolutely love this guy. Hes hilarious and is a great teacher and makes an 8am class worth showing up to. Participate, do your homework, show up and youre basically gonna get an A. But really, this guy is the man and id recommend anyone who wants a teacher with good humor should pick him as their professor.

I wouldn't recommend this class if you're looking for an easy A or if terrified of speaking in public. You will get dropped from the class if you don't show up for one of the speeches. You can tell that he prepares for his lectures. He knows what he's talking about.

Explains everything thoroughly, and very clearly. Makes sure everyone is on the same page. Very open minded discussions and gives many great examples to get the class to participate. We communicate more than we write or read, and home works are online. Fairly easy class. Great teacher!

One of the best professors I've had the privilege of having at Suffolk. Honestly, just make it to class, and do the assignments. If you do that you're definitely going to pass. Very organized with his lesson plans and has a great sense of humor!

Great teacher. You WILL learn to become a better speaker if you listen to him. Dont take the class if your just looking to get credit. Take his class if you actually want to learn. He does grade pretty tough but again its to help you actually learn and become a better speaker. This is definitely a class where you get out what you put in.

It took him awhile to remember my name but I got a pretty high grade on our 1st test & he knew who I was after that. He was recommended & I am glad I took his class. Holfester is the best teacher I have had since high school. His lectures are interesting, his notes are great & only 1 speech. I didn't think I was interested in comm until his class.

I Loved this class! The only thing is you can't really miss a class because of all the information. But otherwise definitely a great class and professor to take. He was very funny and honest and little strict but he was a great teacher and definitely liked it when you participated.

He has been my favorite professor this semester. He is funny and likes to interact with students during class. The lessons are interesting and engaging. There are two exams and one speech. The speech is 5-6 mins long and there is a midterm and a final. The speech isnt and he helps you work on it. Highly recommend :)

Of all my professors so far, Professor Holfester was definitely my favorite. His lectures are very engaging and provide for great discussions. His class was great to attend and I hope to take another class again. The coursework isn't a breeze but definitely very manageable. A very friendly and caring professor who never has a dull class.

My sister took him back in 2012 and urged me to take him when I got to college. I am truly happy I took his class. When you study the tests are fair. His lectures are extremely interesting, informative, and inspirational. If I had to take him again for another communications class, I would! There is only one group project and it can be really fun!

Holfester is a great professor. he will make you better a public speaking. although he is nice, he expects a lot from you, so if you are ready to take a class with some challenge, take him.

Professor Holfester is an all around good teacher. He knows are to clearly teach without getting too much off topic. For COM 101 there is a mid term, a How to speech, and a final. There isn't much work to do, study for tests and review speech until confident and you will pass this class.

This class is a fun experience that really incorporates and stimulates participation at its core. Students must share their stories and relate to Communication Topics to really bring out the best of this class. Loved being able to listen, relate, and learn from others experiences and how communication really applies on the daily basis.-j

This guy is awesome!! Easy grader as long as you come to class and listen to his instructions. This is the only class I liked at Suffolk. Exams are really easy. Speeches are easier. EASY A!

Professor Holfester was by far my favorite professor Ive ever had. He is a wonderful human being, as well as a great teacher. He genuinely cares about his student and I was actually kind of sad to leave his class. He made me genuinely enjoy school again.

Professor Holfestor prepares his students for the real world. He respects all points of view and encourages students to participate in class. His lectures are fun and informative. The course material incorporates social psychology and applies to everyday life situations.

He is my favorite professor. His classes are effectively and fun. Free ebook was provided to students and you can access it very easily. Tips! If you can follow his pace in class and meet him at office hour sometimes, you will get good grade.

Currently taking his class through zoom and he like to get everyone participating and trys his best to make zoom class as interesting as possible. Isnt heavy with the work load and decent exams. Would definitely recommend

One of the best classes I've ever taken! There are 5 speeches and you get to pick your own topic. Research something that interests you, practice your speech beforehand, pay attention, and ask questions in class. He clearly defines requirements for each speech and offers virtual office hours regularly. 10/10 Highly Recommend!

I enjoyed his class. Definitely read the textbook and do the questions. The textbook is also helpful for the two exams. I would say the speech is the easiest assignment to do IMO and he provides an outline in Blackboard. The discussions we had in class were interesting. I will say that he did get off topic sometimes.

Great class to learn how to express yourself. Highly recommend keeping in contact with 5-7 people outside of class for important topics. Different, weird in a good way, hard to understand at times. teaching style is very attention heavy. will ask a lot of questions.

He's interesting and a passionate teacher. Forces you to put yourself out there but it's honestly really useful. He takes speeches seriously and is a tuff grader but if you give effort he's fair. Pretty unorganized so don't expect your grades back often. Is impulsive and random but the class is a good experience, wish I could take him again

I had this professor and I would highly recommend having him! During our lectures, it was clear how much he was passionate about the subject he was teaching. He also encourages others to show their full potential and come out of their shells. He's also caring, helps his students out the best he can, and is available.

If you need to take com101 take it with professor Holfester while he's still teaching, overall easiest class I've had so far, he's very big on attendance, but that just goes to show how much he cares and wants his students to learn, gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit and overall funny professor!

Great professor but has 0 filter. He treats his students like they are in middle school and has a short temper. Don't get me wrong, he is a great professor but if you don't show up or "disrespect him," he will be sure to call you out in front of the entire class. Easy class but lecture heavy so be warned.
