He is a funny ass teacher! Makes Philosophy great and visually stimulating. He needs to go back and get his doctorate and start teaching at Berkeley so we can take multiple choice finals. Go Bears!!
Awesome teacher with lots of enthusiasm. Watch many movies that relate to class. He gives you a whole new perspective on life.
If u plan to take philosophy or any courses Mr. Horrock teaches with any other teacher u r a fool. The funniest, most energetic, intelligent and interesting teacher in this campus...HANDS DOWN...Take his courses even if not needed u won't regret it.
this dude is the man! all we did was watch movies and he would jump and dance across the room telling us the underlying value. i like this prof, and this class. take it!
he is something else thats for sure, but a funny guy "if you feel like you have to talk, go outside and come back"
Be prepared to watch a lot of movie clips...Very fun class, I always looked forward to going. I think we wrote 2 3-5pg papers. He's really into his subject and has a lot of fun with the class.
Chris is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He makes the class interesting, and you get to watch tons of movies that will clarify the subject matter. He dances around the room, and makes different voices that make the class fun. Just as long as you are there for lectures and the movies you will get an A. I highly recommend Chris he's the best.
HE IS EASY AS ALL HELL. YOU WANT TO BRING YOUR GPA UP AND NOT LEARN ANYTHING AND GET AN EASY CLASS. HE IS THE TEACHER TO TAKE. TAKE HIM!!!!!!!
Wow ...you rules...
This professor is the coolest guy! All you have to do is write a couple of short papers about your own personal opinion, watch him dance around in skitzophrenic ways, and watch movie clips! I got an A, and I can't wait to go back for 107 in the fall!
highly recommend, easy A
U watch movies and learn
h3lla kool! explored my interest in philosophy, and brought out a joyful class experience! Thanks!
One of the best teachers in Oxnard College! Has a passion for teaching and definitely shows it. He gets the students very interested. Loved this class! Excellent teacher!!
Good teacher. A lot of his questions make people think. He's great.
i love his enthusiasm about philosophy..he ties in lots of movies to help you better understand.he REALLY does make you THINK..and examine your life in ways you have never thought of..if only there were more classes like this where we actually took more than a grade from & grew as human beings!
Excellent teacher -- he makes the subject interesting and his movies relates to what he's teaching.
Personable guy, interesting, enjoyable logic class. Only complaint - those stupid arrows pointing everywhere. But, hey, I still learned the stuff, and relatively painlessly too. (He shows a lot of videos.)
Fantastic, I will remember him because he taught me how to remember words haha
Damm Horrock ROCKS my SOCKS. i ABSOLUTLY loved this class and all 101 movie bits we watched
The man made his own textbook that costs $3.55! And he is funny! He asks questions that expand the mind. He loves sarcasm. "I don't need 42oz of soft drink but it's only 69 cents! How can i turn that down?" Don't leave Oxnard College without taking him.
IVE TAKEN 3 CLASSES WITH HIM BEST PROFESSOR EVERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SO COOL!!!!!!!
correction best professor EVER!!!!!!! SEE HES SO GREAT I EVEN MISS SPELL WORDS
only had him for a intro class but he did well with the intro because he uses a lot of movies. I hope he takes his other more advance classes or seriously. If his advanced classes are like his intro he needs to rethink is curriculum
real cool guy he gets really into the topics that he covers, makes class fun and shows movies all the time so class is mandatory because alot of the questions on the tests are from the movies and the lectures that he gives
real cool guy he gets really into the topics that he covers, makes class fun and shows movies all the time so class is mandatory because alot of the questions on the tests are from the movies and the lectures that he gives
You know what he is amazing he actually likes his job! And you know what he made me change my major, I fell in love with philosophy because of him!
cool professor but very ez class didn't learn alot but still got an A. The fashion police need to take him away. All his shirts and vests r 2 small
Interesting guy to say the least. Loves movies. A movie basically every class but he cuts out the useless parts. Pretty easy class, the tests were multiple choice. I liked the man personally even though he can be a bit odd at times!
Hilarious!!! great teacher. HE WANTS YOU TO PASS. take him.
Horrock was great. My first though was "This guy's nuts".. and he is, but in a good way. He's definitely made to be a Philosophy teacher, and he really helped out in a lot of ways. Most people may think of him as a bit of a... "moron" :). But I'm telling you he's genius. You will learn, whether you like it or not.
He is a great teacher. He jokes a lot while still helping you to learn a lot. I looked forward to every Tuesday and Thursday when I was taking his class. If you like watching movies he is also a good choice. Each movie relates to the current subject being covered.
Great teacher! His classes are fun and some are boring. TAKE NOTES!!!! Read what he gives you!! Do not leave class early! HE doesn't like talkers while he is talking. He has two essays which are like only 2 pages. His test are straight from the lectures! Every class you will watch videos. Would recommend him!!
im taking a few of his classes right now.you can tell he tries to make his class entertaining for his students. he always puts down his teaching, but you can definitely tell hes really smart and knows a lot about his subject. the class grading seems pretty easy. i love his phil religion class..i defintely recommend taking it
Did I mention how much he made me love Philosophy and now I?m majoring in it?! Well I am and I think he is a good and easy teacher to take! However, logic is not like most other philosophy classes be ready to study and do math!
Great professor, very funny and enthusiastic all the time. He made philosophy interesting to me because he would come out with a great energy. Easy class, would definitely recommend him.!
Very very chill class. After the first test I stopped reading the books. If you are the kind of student that can sit in class and absorb everything it will be cake, but if not you can ask him questions and he is more than willing to help. Very cool dude. Very fun class.
I've taken many classes with this Professor. All I have to say is he is very wise, and the classes are all worth it.
Amazing teacher. His classes are really interesting and the guy really knows what he's talking about. He sort of trips over his words occasionally. I would definitely take any of his classes again.
Majority of the reviews say it all about him. Knows what he talks about and relates topics really well with the videos he shows every class, which kept the class interesting. Very willing to listen to student comments/questions about every topic covered. 3 scantron tests and 2 relatively easy papers were only assignments.
(continued commentary from below)...Do need to read very inexpensive guide along with lecture notes; bold print in guide are main focus on tests. Very enthusiastic and humorous in his teaching; worth taking to get requirement out of way, as was my case.
Mr Horrock is one of the best instructors at Oxnard College. He transmitted his love of Philosophy in every lecture. I am so privileged to have attended his Philosophy 101 class. He is truly an inspiring instructor! Mr. Horrock if you read this "Shine on your crazy diamond!"
GEAT TEACHER!! take him he is easy you just needed to write down notes and study the day before the exam annd it will be okay. He is very helpful, flexable with deadlines. he just wants you to enjoy his class and pass. you watch a lot of videos. he is also a trip
He is a good teacher. He doesn't seem to like to use his office hours to help people. He did fall asleep on me once when we were talking. He is very nice though. He shows a lot of movies and really wants you to understand the material. He always seems to wear the same sweaters that are way to small for him, heehee.
I love that he played so many movies throughout the course, but I don't feel like I learned anything. He's pretty disorganized but the information wasn't hard to understand.
Great instructor, great logic class, take him he's the best at Oxnard College!
i must warn you now very inorganized, all over the plaze, plays a lot of movies and doesnt really review for tests. everyone here is talking about B work, if you are looking for an A you will have to be on him.
This teacher is extremely helpful. His knowledge goes broad beyond the classroom and he keeps you awake in class with his light and witty sense of humor. He will work with you and is always available for questions after class. I learned so much in his class and always looked forward to attending it every day. I am so glad I took it.
I've taken this instructor for philosophy as well as world mythology, and he's a pretty enthusiastic about what he teaches. He's always sticking his neck out for his students, making sure everyone has a chance to do his assignments. His class is heavily movie based with the book/readings. His tests are MC with some slight quick in-class writings.
Great instructor! Took the condensed 6 week summer coarse to kill the GE req and I'm so happy that I had for summer. His class is thought provoking and he follows up his explanation with video movie clips to help. Three 95 Q MC exams and a final paper. If you pay attention and read, none of those should be a problem. If you need to take Phil as a GE he's the person to do it with. I wish more teachers had his energy.
Professor Horrock is an awesome instructor. He is very interactive with his class and attentive when students discuss classroom topics. Just do your work and go to class. He is by far, one of the best instructors at OC.
Easy teacher that wants you to pass. I took Intro to PHIL in the summer. He obviously loves his job and really makes you interested in the course. I loved it! My mind expanded! :)
Very nice Professor but he's all over the place and a bit weird. If you ask him where's his office located at he'll reply "The North Side, Facing the Mountains" ????? had me confuse lmao. Overall he's cool.
Prof Horrock is very cool and sweet. His class was interesting and if you just read the book passages the tests were easy. A few essays and worksheets, but mostly about your opinions. Showed a lot of movies. Kind of all over the place and not very organized, but didn't matter. Really wants the whole class to ace and will help you to.
He is awesome!!! I'm probably gonna take another class with him next semester! Definitely a good teacher he makes class fun and interesting! I would definitely recommend him.
Truly enjoyed this class and wish I could take it again! His lectures are very interesting!
He's a cool guy. Very nice and easy. You don't have to take notes. Just show up for class and pay attention. Exams are easy.
He is all over the place in lecturing. He is not organized but his tests reflect the material taught in class. Pay attention to the movies shown and you'll pass.
Super nice! You'll have a 3 page paper at the end of the semester and that's about as "difficult" as it gets. You'll watch a bunch of movies. He really makes things clear and there are 3 tests. He's flexible about things. Must study for exams!
Great professor! Pay attention and you will pass tests. If you love to write there are short writings in the beginning and end of class. You will watch parts of lots of movies . He gives you a chance and extra credit.
Mr. Horrock is an old school professor, yes he sometimes seems misplaced, but he is very intelligent. If you don't like English, I would recommend taking his course for your GE requirement. Hang in there, he does lecture alot, but along with that he does show video clips, its not a hard course, and he does listen to feedback from students.
We watched a lot of videos which didn't make much sense to me at least in connection to the objectives we were suppose to learn. Study for the test with the worksheets and review he gives and you will pass
Class is nowhere near organized. if you dont follow the syllabus you wont know when to turn in stuff because he doesnt make it clear when the due date is. his lecture alone is not enough to pass the class.... you have to read all the chapters plus all the weekly writings+ movie essays+ essays+fill in the blank sheets. cool guy... but not worth it
He's very nice & intelligent, just a little all over the place. There are lots of movie clips and in-class writings, but they're very easy and basically just personal observations/opinions. Didn't use the book much, just study the review sheets before tests and use common sense. Movies didn't make much sense, but he's very lenient, too lenient imo.
1 writing question before break and 1 before you leave (every class). I took his 2hr class which is once a week. Test, midterm and a final. Before every test there are 3 worksheets & 2 movie questions to turn in. He gives you more time if you don't complete them. Gives A LOT of extra credit. Go to class and you will pass. He's pretty funny too.
Love the guy! Took him for Intro to Phil & Intro to Logic. Both fairly easy classes and he gives you plenty of chances to pass with a good grade. He's almost too fair. Logic was surprisingly fun to learn, but he would put himself down sometimes because he thought people weren't interested which was a bummer! Still a solid teacher, very quirky
Textbook necessary. Participation crucial only so its not awkward. I personally hated this class. I knew a bit about phil before joining and didnt learn anything new. Shows a lot of movies and talks through them all. 2 or 3 tests. Has worksheets, movie writing assignments and essays all at once due 3 times throughout. Know phil basics? Don't take.
A good professor as far as caring and lectures. But he is very scattered through out his lectures. He does give extra credit. Shows a lot of movies to explain concepts but he talks too much that I cannot focus on the movie.
I took this course over the summer and I thought it was going to be difficult but it wasnt (It wasnt boring either). We watched a lot of movie clips and at the end we would answer questions that would tie in with the lecture. I looked forward to going to class because this professor raised an interest in the subject. Overall I enjoyed this class.
This professor is amazing and very easy. The tests are easy if you do the reading and pay attention in class. He may jump around in lecture from one topic to another, but still understandable. The only students who will fail this class are those that are lazy and text throughout the lecture.
I took his class summer 18' and thought it was not that hard. His midterm and final consist of about 80 questions and he pretty much gives the answers to most of the questions during lecture. Since it was a fast pace class he was very lenient with us. There's also essay type questions based on movies he shows for the most part of the class.
Great professor. I will admit I had to retake this class because I got a D the first time for not taking it serious so I retook his class and got an A. Very funny and I enjoyed his class both times. Show up, do the reading and writing assignments and you'll pass.
I honestly liked him but I can't stand so much talking especially over the movies he would show us or while taking a test. He is a good professor if you stay on it with the papers he assigns a few pages. Sometimes he makes no sense because he can't describe instructions properly. And when I ask he gives me a whole confusing summary,3 Test w/ notes
Great teacher but do not do the assignment's last minute, you will get lazy. I will say he is not organized with his power-points and assigment's, no due date and the power point's are a little confusing since their are scribbles all over them :/ but you will learn from them. Pretty easy as long as you do the work.
This professor is what you call disorganized. He over explains & complicates simple subjects. Also,if I were to ask my neighbor for help ,He takes it as if we were having a random convo&tells us to talk outside for extra credit. But allows the whole back row of students to be sleeping. He also never passed out the teacher evaluation sheets.
Used to be a nursing major. Took philosophy 101, now a philosophy major. Also, i am now woke .
everyone says he puts on too much movies & talks a lot. which it true. he talks about stuff & it had my thoughts all over the place but thats what philosophy is!!! he is so nice & easy. i would take again. cool guy
awful professor. Talks about things that dont make sense or even relate to ethics. His class is extremely easy as long as you show up, but that doesnt matter. im trying to learn ethics, not fall asleep in class. He plays movies that don't relate to ethical issues, not that i would know because he talks over the videos so you cant understand.
Online class was a disaster. He didn't update the class regularly so for most of the semester we didn't have any assignments to do. A few bizarre, extremely short discussions and multiple choice quizzes. Last week of the semester he added about as much work as we'd done in the whole semester up until then. Not impossible, but there was no warning.
Is very unorganized so it makes it very difficult to complete assignment. His notes and powerpoints are not even relatively helpful for his final he gives at the end of your last days of the semester. Find a more worthy professor.
Can be disorganized and confusing at times. Pay attention to the worksheets and the PowerPoints because they will be in the midterm and final. He's a funny nice man that puts movies which relates to his topics. Make sure you pay attention or you will fall behind.
Took class during summer, supper easy. Easy A. Didn't really teach and was very disorganized. The only time I learned was when feeling the blanks from the quizzes. Interesting topics.
Took 1 of his classes b4, & throughout the course he rarely posted any assignments on canvas, then suddenly in the last 2 weeks uploaded more work than we had done in the whole semester. It was stressful, but manageable so I decided to take another 1 of his classes. BIG MISTAKE- 8 quizzes, 3 main tests, a 10 pg paper, & more, given w/ 2 weeks left
He makes it easy for you to succeed
Many power point readings. The material is fairly easy to understand, as long as you review and read all material you will have no issues understanding and passing this his class. He adds many Gifs/memes in the power points, its amusing!:)
Chris is super fun and easygoing. The way he types things on canvas can be confusing at first, but you get the hang of it. I didn't think philosophy was going to be interesting, but he somehow managed to make the class really engaging even with it being completely online without any zoom. I really loved his class.
This was an 8-week online course and his style of uploading things on canvas is not the best, very unorganized and overwhelming. the last five days of the course he uploaded 8 tests that had 40 questions, worth 55% of your grade. Then dared to take away late points on assignments when he had uploaded everything late. be prepared to stress
i highly recommend him. he is very nice and gives a lot of information. he's also helpful. his modules are difficult to understand but you just have to pay close attention to how things are organized. shows films in class and not a lot of work.
Professor Horrock is funny and wants you to get an A. Easy class with fill-in-the-blank "quizzes" and 7 chapter tests. No midterm or final or paper. Videotaped lectures are optional. Powerpoints summarize the lectures. His Canvas postings are disorganized and hard to follow, but it's all there. He'd be a 5 if he was more organized.
Prof Horrock all online he made philosophy easy to understand and fun. Keeping up with all the assignments is key. He has a good sense of humor my favorite The Freudian slip
Advise I would give is pay close attention the movies he plays. There are questions at the end about the movies watched in class.
His Canvas page was SUPER confusing, he had way more modules than anyone could have ever imagined, his materials are not readable by an immersive reader, and he abbreviates EVERYTHING. This is from our latest test word for word. "***(Do/Req'd): "Main test #3" Ch. 3...Categorical Stmnts, -Square of Opposition.; -Operations on Stmnts. (2.75 HRS.)"
Professor Horrocks's lectures are pretty enjoyable and his course is set up pretty straightforward. I enjoyed this Intro to Logic course and plan to enroll in another one of his courses in the fall. Great Professor!
His online course is really disorganized, but it's easy once you get the hang of it! Really nice guy, I just wish it was more organized overall. The last two tests are due two days apart and he posts them only a few days before its due. Easy fill in the blank homework, super short discussion posts, and three tests over our 4 week online course.
Cool professor, very accessible inside and outside of the classroom. Canvas can be tricky to understand at first since he abbreviates A LOT but once you get the hang of it you're more than good. Lectures weren't the most interesting but that could just be a personal preference. Attendance is part of your grade. Overall nice and easygoing professor.
Professor Horrock's class is an entertaining ride. While his Canvas organization can be confusing, the engaging lectures and movie clips make up for it. unstuckstudy was a godsend for prepping for the quizzes and exams.
this class is genuinely just fun
Fun and easy class with not many assignments! He provides all the readings so no need to purchase anything.
You will like it! If you are considering taking this class - do it! You will succeed the only difficult thing is navigating the class and Professor Horrock tends to write a little confusingly. But thats literally the only drawback you will like it and succeed.
Took his Philosophy class online as a dual enrollment student. His work was easier than almost any of my HS homework. Assignments are so easy, but they still teach something. He shows lots of movie clips as well. Super fun, friendly guy. Makes jokes a ton. Now taking his World Mythology class just because of how great he is. Easy A.
