Fun class. Fast paced lectures. Tests can be draining and the scores debatable, but overall a good class.
Huggard is a great guy. He can teach very good and he is so smart. His test are hard, but you will learn a lot. Take him. He is good.
If you are looking for a course to fulfill requirements, then don't take this class. If you truly want to learn something, then definately take any of Huggard's classes!
Extremely good instructor! You will learn more than you could ever imagine! Take any class he offers!
extreme learning class! not easy, but you will get you money's worth and more!
This guy will blow you out of the water!
He is great. He expects a lot out of you, but he's willing to help. He's also hilarious.
Dr. Huggard is a very intelligent professor. You will learn alot from any of his classes and you might have a good time doing it. I would recommend him to anyone who genuinly wants to learn.
Huggard is a good, if liberal professor. Not too hard at all (a number of 3-5 page essays, and two for a final), and fairly clear on what he wants. Tends to repeat too much, and can be boring at times. Funny, and enjoyable to be around, to the point of too many jokes. Otherwise, I give him a '8'.
Dr. Huggard can be hard but he always gives a good attitude and laughter to our class. You will never see him in a bad mood. I highly recommend him. You will learn a lot, and also have fun!
Dr. Huggard is an awesome person as well as an aweseome teacher. This has been one of my hardest classes by far, however, I have learned much more from him. If you want to be challenged in your education, you will enjoy him.
Dr. Huggard has saved my semester. At first, his was the only class I wanted to drop, but now it's the only one I'd take again. His class is extremely challenging, both academically and personally. Where his ideas and "suggestions" once offended me, now only make me stronger in my own views. Thanks.
He is a great techer who shows a great deal of knowledge in all subjects of life. He doesn't just teach history, he teaches life. He makes the class very interesting. Shows complete fairness and will tell you EXACTLY what is expected of you. All students should eperience this professor.
Dr. Huggard is extremely intelligent, however; as a professor if students are asked to keep their personal biases outside the classroom so should the instructor. Class time is interesting. If you disregard the jokes and sometimes inappropriate comments, and really listen you will learn a lot.
This is my second class with him and still recommend him highly. If you feel he is biased about something..just talk to him about it. He will hear what you have to say!
I enjoyed the class very much! To be able to use something in real life that a learned in class gives me this great feeling that western civ. didn't waste my time. Thanks Dr. Huggard
BAD TEACHER! Do NOT TAKE HIM! He told me I would fail his test and probably his class bc i was absent....I was absent bc of a fam death and had proof....FAILED his test and now I am having to go meet w/ the deans!!! BE CAREFUL WITH THIS TEACHER!
Dr. Huggard is an exceptional lecturer and his class is a lot of fun. I definitely look forward to going to my West.Civ. class during my school week. He is very fair, but does expect a higher level of work than what some students may anticipate. I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to be challenged while being entertained as well !
This teacher is unorthodox, he is very blunt about his ideas and if you get hurt easily about religious comments, don't take his class, but the rest of you that have an open mind, he will be a good funny and interesting teacher.
Dr. huggard is a teacher that lets you form your own opinion and does not push religion on amyone. This class is to open your mind and understand the history of religion. First history class that I have ever enjoyed.
Dr. Huggard is a very intense professor. If you want to really learn the material, this is your man. If you are looking for an easy A, go somewhere else. He loves what he does, and though we differ in our opinions concerning religion, he absolutly respected my beliefs.
I love this guy he was so funny so hilariuos for most of us in his class..this was our favorite class, a class worth waking up to take...I really recommend it
Hard, and he is slightly condesending if someone doesnt understand something he percieves as simple. A good class if you want to put forth some effort tho. However, dont take if if your easly offended by discussion about religion, because there is alot of it.
Very cool engaging teacher, he ecourages input and may tell you alot of bad things christians have done but hey it's all history.
It doesn't get much better than Doc H! If you are a religious freak who lives in hole and can't accpet other ways of thinking, then this class is not for you. His tests require a lot of memory work, but sometimes they are take-home tests. Get your short answer review, write it out, memorize it, take test! Funny guy, and great person to teach you!
He is a hard teacher, but you will learn. So if you are interested in learning more about history and our government then take his class, but be ready to study hard before his test. He is a fair teacher and does not play favorites.
Dr. Huggard is one of the most intellectual professor in my college. He wants his students to learn the thing rather than just rote learning. He further empahsizes to use that learning to help the community. With his great help, students hosted a forum on culture divesity in the United States. The purpose of this seminar was to figure out the needs
Honors seminar for cultural diversity: He did a great job teaching, organizing the class, inviting excellent speakers, and helping students attain goal of creating NW Arkansas' first forum on new immigration. Also he's a kind and caring .
Dr. Huggard is what you'll come to recognize as a "life-changing professor." He'll make positive challenges on your viewpoints, in the classroom and out, and before you realize it--you're becoming the person who better understands not only what you believe in, but the all important *why* you believe it. Without hesitation, I implore you: take him.
Dr. Huggard is a great guy--great lecturer. At first he seems intimidating but he genuinely cares about his profession, education, and his students. He is challenging and though provoking but he is the brightest man that I've ever met... His courses aren't just show up and get an 'A'--you have to earn it so be prepared to apply yourself!!!
Was a great teacher very insightful! go to class take notes do ids and study for exams and you will do fine! rewards you with take home tests
I learned a lot in this class. His class is not hard if you pay attention and if you start your take home test ahead of time. If you have strong religous beliefs, know your stuff, he will give you a run for your money, he wants you to know why you believe the things you do, and not just believe them because everyone else does. I highly recommend hi
Awesome teacher! I learned more in this class than any I have taken at NWACC. The class is intense and you will have to work for your grade and he has high expectations for his students but I think this adds to his success as a great teacher. Why hasn't some big named school picked this guy up?
I've never felt more profiled, catagorized, or judged in my entire life. If you're a strong believer in Christianity, I recommend going to another teacher. He's interesting and well informed, when he stays on the topic at hand and doesn't go off on a rant about "Christians" and Republicans.
This Man Cares! Maybe 1 or 2 homework assignments. If you listen and study your notes, you cannot fail. He knows what he teaches and may seem hard at first but it is just to weed out people who dont care. He will make sure to answer question and is NOT judgemental! Extremely Fair! ask any prof. n they will tell u he is 1 of the best in the school!!
he is crazy but very funny and very smart i recomend this class if u enjoy history take it!!!!! but expect to hear some christian bashing and the occational cuss word!
Very informative and interesting. Can be offensive at times concerning religion in politics.
Western Civ was so not boring. He taught so much this past semester. His teaching style is wonderful and his tests are really hard..this is the first year. I would suggest this class to anyone who does not wear their emotions..or beliefs on their shoulder, and someone who cries about their ideals and beliefs being questioned.
You republicans and christians need to get a sense of humor. The teacher rocks but I wish i had known his test formats from day one, because it wouldve changed way i studied. So here you all go,define all his IDs as you go,& the rest is 3-5page essay.dont let the oil loving bible bush-ites ruin your fun this guys a great teacher C U in westciv LR
Doc H is GREAAAAAAAAAAT!!!! :) I didnt make a A in his class but its kindof easy too, all you need to do is to be a "bonus baby" is what he likes to call it...you get 20 points for attendence and he gives a ton of extra credit. The tests are pretty hard but just go to class take notes, prepare and do the extra credit and youll do fine!! :)
Doc H is great! Controversial at times, but intentionally so. After all, are colleges not the right place for the challenging of ideas? As long as you are open-minded and interested in an exchange of ideas rather than having your own ideas spit back to you - this guy is your man!
I am in the online class. This guy is way too critical, assigns WAY too much homework (essays weekly w/tons of reading). He doesn't give enough time on the assignments. He grades too harshly, doesn't offer constructive criticism, just makes you feel like an idiot w/his sarcastic remarks on your paper. STAY AWAY!!!!!
This teacher care's about his students. Yes you have to do the work in his class but, that is what school is about. He is flexable on his grading and the material isn't hard to understand. I enjoy his class very much and would recommend him to anyone.
This teacher can be tough at times but only because he wants to challenge his students. Sometimes I find his questions difficult to handle but he will always explain if you need him to. He spends more time then any other teacher I have had explaining why he graded your paper the way he did. That shows he cares and wants you to understand.
A very compelling course! Dr. Huggard opens doors that most Professors are scared to even get near. I cannot recommend him enough. Attendance is mandatory so just show up and pay attention (don't text in class you fools, its rude and costs you points), do the work and be prepared for essay tests. Plenty of bonus pts to earn. Awesome class/teacher!
overall a good professor, who knew much about his topic. my only problem with the professor is that although the class was Western Civilization i felt like most of the lectures were more focused on the fallibility of God/religion.
Huggard is the man! Very knowledgeable and funny. This guy knows his history, and lectures are very entertaining.
I really enjoyed this class. It was really interesting and it made me think about what was being taught.
I love Dr. Huggard I feel that I have a good grasp on the material covered as well as a new respect for others views. I feel that I learned more than just history in this classroom!
Dr. Huggard, is a professor that you can just tell he loves teaching. Take his class!
. . an amazing teacher. .super funny. :))
good teacher. not many grades and isn't uptight about attendance just take notes because he does lecture ALOT.
I initially thought this class would be difficult but it turned out to be quite easy. Study hard for the first exam, it's pretty much gravy after that. As far as writing papers, as long as you put some effort into it he'll give you a good grade. Regardless of the difficulty it was the best class I've ever been in...Huggard is hilarious!
I found this class to be informative, demanding, and rewarding. I turned into a much better writer and gained a clearer understanding of how history always repeats itself. This class is great for anyone willing to push himself/herself and do some critical thinking to make connections.
The first day of class I found him highly offensive and then as the semester progressed I grew to love him. He's one of the most entertaining Profs I've had and though I don't agree with his political opinions, his intelect makes him very sexy, so I'll forgive him for that. ;) I would take him again. You MUST take notes and study a little.
Loved this class!! Would take it again!
I have never met a teacher who cares more about his students. He is always in his office and willing to help. Yes, he is a little opinionated, but I would take him again and again.
My fav teacher at NWACC! He loves a good argument, so go to class with your opinons, but make sure they are sound. It does not take long to see how much he loves his students and teaching. He has a passion about history that you cant help but learn from. Some of his beliefs are off the wall, but that makes it funnier.
Great teacher. I enjoyed the class although it was online I learned a lot from this course. Fair teacher lots of reading. :)
He had unrealistic expectations for his tests. He gets off on tangents and does not really cover what he needs to. I have to spend more time on homework and studying in his class than I do in my classes that are actually pertinent to my degree.
My favorite teacher.
By far the best teacher I have had at NWACC. Doc H is a great educator and challenges his students. I wish I would have taken him for both History classes and Western Civ I. I have learned more from this class than any college class I have taken. If I could, I would definitely take him again.
At first, his expectations may be unclear. If you don't understand something, ask questions. He is very knowledgeable. Go to class, you?ll learn a lot. He has strong opinions and encourages you to have your own. If you have a problem with critical thinking, don?t take his class.
Intriguing professor. Opinionated, but open to intellectual debate. Fair grader. Definitely a must take teacher.
I took him for Western Civ I and enjoyed it very much. Very interesting teacher and brings forth many unknowns and many interesting aspects about early Western Civ and religion. I believe every student should take him at at least one semester.
Dr. Huggard's liberal ideology, atheism, and common sense prospective is refreshing and helpful for critical thinking. He is open to discussion and grades fairly. Make sure you attend class for lecture and points.
Simply the Best. If you dont want to use critical thinking, dont take the class...but youll be missing out. He's interesting, funny, and cares about the success of his students. One of the best professors I have ever had!
I would recommend Dr. Huggard to anybody who has a rational thought process. He DOES NOT hate Jesus, as some people here have claimed. He simply points out the hypocrisy of how many Christians today are nothing like Christ. He cares about people who are and have been oppressed and his philanthropic actions show it. If you love Jesus, take Huggard.
Had Huggard from 3 classes so far US History, West Civ I, and West Civ II Honors. He is one of the best teachers ever. Take him if you have a strong opinion and enjoy a heated dicussion. Do not take him if you are over sensitive! i mean so many people complain about hisview, we they are his not yours LOL... take him and i promise you will enjoy!
I have take. Dr.H for almost every history class. He is the BEST professor and the BEST person. His classes are all awesome. Yes he is opinionated and he makes you challenges things but that is what college is about. When you take his class come ready to learn. His test and papers are NOT hard if you come to class and take notes. He is the BOMB
Has enormous intellect and puts out his point of view very aggressively in class. He expects much out of his students and in return, he gets hard work from those who want to excel. He also tends to make some heads steam because of his opinions regarding politics or religion. He does it to make you think, not convert you.
I know he has alot of fans, but I'm not one of them. He tends to state his opinions as facts and he can be very frustrating in class. You can definitely learn alot from him, especially if you are interesting in History.
I took Dr. Huggard for Western Civ to 1650 and World Civ since 1500 Honors, and thoroughly enjoyed each course. He challenges students to think and exercise critical thinking. I would recommend Dr. Huggard to anyone, but especially to students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution.
Attendance is a MUST. He assigned reading from the textbook but I'd suggest taking note in class, they will help you way better than the book. We had 2 tests, 1 take home and 1 in class, and 1 term paper that we had the whole semester to work on. The tests were fairly easy. He offers many extra credit assignments that are very easy.
Dr. Huggard is an extremely intellectual person and expects nothing less than your best. I suggest you take notes on any information he gives you it will come in handy. Come to class or you will fail.
I am a non-traditional student who has returned to college after many years in the workforce. I registered for American History because it is a requirement for my degree but I had no idea what to expect. I thouroughly enjoyed this class not only becuase I enjoyed learning the material but also because Dr. Huggard is a fantastic teacher.
Dr. Huggard is the BEST History teacher! I love History and wished his class-time was longer. His lectures are inspirational and dynamic. Taking detailed notes will help with his tests, 1 in-class and 2 take-home. He gives you options for service learning or term paper. There are opportunities for extra credit as well. Loved his lectures.
Dr. Huggard gives an inside out look at world civilization. He presents and teaches valuable information that you will not get from a text book. He expects your best and will help you achieve success.
Christians beware.... If you don't believe what he does, you're in for it. Makes learning hard. Lectures are LONG (like I should've slept 12 hours before coming here long). He's funny, and likes to tease, but when it comes to grading he expects nothing less than perfection. He's very passionate, but belittles students if they disagree with him.
Good teacher. Must come to class to pass. He doesn't use the textbook but uses other readings. Only has tests, no other assignments really, that are take home essays. Easy class if you show up, take notes, and do the work well. He gives bonus points for attending school events.
You are required to write a 10 paged term paper or do a service-learning project. Thankfully, he gives you plenty of time to work on either assignment. He respects his students and can be very humorous. He is very intimidating at first and he doesn't intend on you changing beliefs but for one to know more about one's beliefs.
Places more importance on you understanding his opinions and how correct he is than on you understanding the material. Most days the material won't even be taught in favor of an hour long lecture on how wrong Christianity is or how stupid republicans are.
I took Mr. Huggard for History of the American People since 1877&it was overall a good class. The exams are fairly easy&there is a 10-15 page term paper or service learning project due at the end of the semester. Mr. Huggard is an opinionated & comical guy who wants his students to further their knowledge & form their own belifs, Great professor.
Don't miss class or you'll miss lectures and he will not give you the info later. He only gives 3 exams the whole semester and they consist of writing essays. Luckily they have been take home exams. You must follow his instructions exactly or it will affect your grade. Hard grader but overall very knowledgable in his field.
Dr. Huggard is... a very polarizing person. You either love him or hate him. He is a VERY smart man, so ask him anything. Be ready to hear him talk about religion and politics and current events with an open mind. He has a very set world view and will not sugar coat things. Take his class with humor and you will be golden.
We had 2 tests (plus an optional final) that we were graded on. We also had either a service project or term paper (our choice) that we were graded on. He weighed it on a points scale of 330 (430 if you took the final), along with plenty of extra credit too. Stay on top of the work or you'll get behind. He's a generous grader and a great prof.
He is obviously experienced in his field. He often tells cool facts and shows new ways to view historical events. However, he tends to talk a lot about conspiracies, and when he is talking about different genders or ethnicities he often uses students from the class as examples and asks related questions, which could make many people uncomfortable.
Very lecture heavy. Doesn't give homework. Very knowledgeable. Challenges students to think differently.
Super cool and tells the truths of history!!
Dr. Huggard brings to light many topics in history that are commonly covered up. Class was all in all super easy. He's very sarcastic, and loves to crack political jokes (usually directed at the right wing) so if you're easily offended about that type of stuff this may not be the class for you, but I find it hysterical. Would 100% take again.
Dr. Huggard is a very well respected instructor, as he should be! He is very knowledgeable, but I would have to agree with another comment on here, you either love him or hate him. He has very strong view points. He is lecture HEAVY and only grades a few things for the semester. Hard class for that reason, but gives extra credit. DONT NEED TEXTBOOK
Great teacher!
Huggard is my fav college professor yet. He brings light to history that has been often shaded, which I respect. He has very strong viewpoints on religion and politics (mainly directed at right wing people and tr*mp) but is always funny about it. Gives 2 tests that are fully open-ended questions, so know your stuff or you'll fail for sure.
Dr. Huggard lectures all class period. He is very opinionated but a pretty good professor. His lectures are pretty easy to understand. His assignments are 2 essays and a term paper. He also gives you a lot of opportunities to do extra credit and get bonus points. DO AS MANY BONUSES AS YOU CAN (final is optional depending on your grade).
He is a pretty laid-back teacher! He lectures a lot so be prepared to take lots of notes. Overall you are graded by only a few big exams. I recommend this teacher. He seems very passionate about history and is very honest.
Most of the lectures are based on his opinions. It isn't that his ideas are wrong or unreliable but there isn't textbook information about American History. The exams are based on the reading he assigns because his lectures are hard to separate opinion from reality. If you disagree with him or your religious, watch out.
Easy teacher. Lecture heavy, and as someone said before, he definitely grades off of his opinions not necessarily facts. He was nice and understanding, however, had an intense dislike of Christians and mentioned something negative about them and on a regular basis.
Mr. Huggard is an amazing history teacher. He is very honest and upfront. Some people may get offended but in reality he is honest and does not sugar coat no matter how harsh history could be. He lectures heavily but take notes, show up to class and you should do good.
I HIGHLY recommend in taking notes to help write your exams and IDs. Lecture heavy, but they're pretty easy to understand; textbook is good for context. Will give bonuses (20 pts max), no hws, and don't skip or you'll fall behind. (Check 5/10/18 & 12/30/27's reviews, they're helpful)
Only 4 assignments in this class for the whole semester and the professor and very lecture heavy, take this class if you are a critical thinker. I would not recommend cause his political views always ends up in his lectures and it will make you uncomfortable if you are a christian or a right wing person.
Very opinionated teacher and anti-Christianity. He'd mention that Christians took freedom of religion too far (imposing beliefs others), which he would then do to us by stating his political opinions. He'd also get off topic and talk about political leaders and events that had nothing to do with the course. Pro: Grades are not biased.
I enjoyed his class. Assignments seem like a lot at first but are actually pretty easy. Extra credit for attendance is given. Teaches all aspects of history, doesn't sugarcoat. Lectures are good, not a lot of homework.
I enjoyed his class. Assignments seem like a lot at first but are actually pretty easy. Extra credit for attendance is given. Teaches all aspects of history, doesn't sugarcoat. Lectures are good, not a lot of homework. Textbook is online and free.
Enjoyed his lectures, didn't sugarcoat and kept it interesting/learned a lot. Definitely has strong opinions that he mentions a lot so do not take his class if you are sensitive to that. Not too many assignments but offers a lot of extra credit. Tests are essays and short answer done at home, but grades somewhat tough.
He talks about his political opinions all class, very left winged. 4 essays that are the exam but you do them in your own time. It is hard to follow his lectures because they usually have nothing to do with history so use free textbook. He gives good feedback on essays though, be thorough and don't hesitate to email. Attendance is for extra credit.
Very lecture heavy. I didn't really learn a lot from the lectures, I just did the reading for the essays I wrote. The only big grades are the exams. He also mentions his political and religious views a lot in class; it can be uncomfortable if you disagree with him. He gives many options for EC and alternative assignments throughout the semester.
Very lecture heavy, so be sure to take notes he is also very opinionated and doesn't sugarcoat. Three exams are essays, including the final, but the final isn't mandatory, and you can do a service project instead of term paper. The textbook is free and helpful. Just show up to class, and you'll do just fine.
Professor Huggard covers history comprehensively, though can be opinionated. Attend lectures, take notes, and utilize resources like unstuckstudy for exam prep - it really helps! The workload is manageable if you stay engaged.
Dr. Huggard is a really awesome professor. He cares deeply about history and loves group discussions during class. He's also very opinionated and not scared to say what he thinks, no matter how blunt it may be, but his passion for history and lectures makes it all worthwhile. Stay engaged in class, ask questions, and stay genuine. You'll be golden
Amazing in-person class experience, and Dr Huggard is a great orator. Very passionate, but not overpowering either as the classroom was very open to discussion. If you are interested in the historical research process or historical analysis, Honors is an amazing example of what NWACC offers students in the first year. Would take again!
