Chris is an awesome teacher

A very good class... taught by a very good teacher
Great teacher I enter this class with anticipation for what I will learn and leave with a smile.
The best teacher I have ever had. I have had the best time in his class and I learn alot.
Great Teacher Very Funny.
He is extremely funny and he knows his stuff. He also seems open and unjudging to beliefs.
Chris has a quick wit and he is hot.
Fun class, but don't expect it to be easy. Lots of reading.
Chris is awsome. Best teacher i have ever had, and the reason im a philosophy major now.
Chris,it's supposed to be about the students not about Chris. Lets talk about me for awhile.
Saturated with knowledge, very personable, take his class you'll love it!
he was very excited about the course work and was willing to help students understand the material. He even tackled some difficult arguments like religion and evolution. I especially like the argument for Jesus's resurrection.
He was an excellent teacher that made learning about religion interesting. I loved the class and learned so much relevant information about life that i never knew before. And he does not seriously impose he personal views onto students, which is good for a religion class. He is very knowledgable.
he's a great teacher and the classes are very interesting

Excellent teacher. Also the reason why I am a philosophy major now.
I didn't actually have a class with him, but I consulted him on a paper I was writing as a source. He was friendly, but it was obvious he did not respect my opinion and I left feeling foolish and looked down on.
Very good teacher, I just wish I would have actually read more than I did. The lectures were fascinating and I did learn a lot though.
My brother had him and recommended him andd then I took classes from him. I liked his classes so much I took every class in the sequence from him. I still get advice from him about issues. He even helped me with a grievence I was filing against a teacher a

great teacher. really controversial. great for debates. great for enlightenment.
very intelligent yet arrogant about his own intellect. classes require a lot of reading but the lectures explain it enough to understand. if you dont share his viewpoint you will find the class difficult and frustrating
CHRIS JACKSON IS GREAT!!!! HE OPENED MY EYES TO SO MANY ISSUES THAT I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT. THE TEST COULD BE HARD, BUT IF YOU STUDY YOU WILL MOST LIKELY GET AN A. I WANT TO TAKE HIM AGAIN, AND AGAIN
Had him for World Religions and PHL 201, really good. But not so good if you are easliy offended.
Mr. Jackson is brilliant, an awesome teacher. He presents facts and objective information in his lectures. His personal opinions seem to be based on factual and objective information as well. Students who don't like him tend to be closed minded and ethnocentric. He is just an amazing person in general. Wish more people were like him!
Good teacher, doesn't preach that one religion is better than another, he has personality which makes the class more interesting
Best. Teacher. Ever.
Ok, he's hotter than hot, but let's get down to the class. First, I don't understand what is up with everyone saying there is a lot of reading??? There is one packet, not even a book, he typed it up so it could save everyone money. Second, he is so full of knowledge it's really fun to pick his brain. ALL of his classes are excrusiatingly easy.
this is the best teacher ever. everyone is right. he is funny and makes the class interesting. he doesnt take sides and preach one religion. barely any reading, he will tell you the answers to the questions that will be on the test so you dont have to do the hw. TAKE HIM! YOU WONT REGRET IT
Interesting teacher. Knows his material. Very cocky though, likes to brag. Dont take his class if you cannot handle your faith being tested. Hot? Are you kidding? NOT!
A very humorous, very open-minded professor; one can always feel free to contradict his personal views in philosophy, as he grades (fairly) only on clarity of expression, rather than on the view that one espouses.
Chris Jackson is full of himself. He has a set of followers who take all of his classes and practically worship the ground he walks on. Extremely lazy, one of thos teachers that keeps same text and just hands out the same tests every term. The classroom is a stage for Chris. He's more interested in talking about himself than teaching subject matt
I think anyone that did not take a class from Chris while attending MHCC would be doing themselves a great disservice. I think some of the people below are mistaking his confidence and sarcastic humor for cockiness. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field. He is prompt in grading tests, responding to email and is very approachable.

Best teacher I've ever taken. You won't regret taking any class he offers.
Apparently I am not the only one who is obsessed with this teacher! He is great!!!
As far as I remember, I think he believed that Socrates actually made a good argument in The Apology (which he didn't, on purpose). Nonetheless - his introductory classes do open the student up to philosophers such as Plato and Descartes, and his lectures are never boring. He's okay.
I would not take him again. He is not a good teacher and only really cares about himself. He is a fake.
Jackson is an excellent speaker--his lectures are topical, and concise. He requires very little of students, only that you understand the material. The tests are essentially the sum of the grade and they're very short, so it's an easy "A" if you are able to grasp the material (alternately, it leaves little room for error).
Master Jackson (he likes it when you call him master) is an excellent teacher, very laid back and fun to interact with. The tests make up the total of your grade, so it is important you attend enough class to understand the material. He does not allow make up tests, so be certain not to miss a test day. Recommended.
i thought he was boring but pretty nice.
One of my favorite teachers at Mt. Hood. Jackson's classes (my favorite subject anyway) are always my favorite. He's very clear, and very easy to listen to, even if he does pander to the stupidest questions, which take up the whole freakin class.
What wouldn't I give to see Jackson take off one of those button up shirts he wears? he always leaves a couple buttons open anyway which drives me crazy! Hotter than hotter than hot. Oh yeah... great teacher.
Fun teacher. Kind of got boring over time because often hes off topic and pouring out his life story to the class. Tests are easy, group assignments are easy. I never read, just paid attention, and received an A. Fill in the blanks are difficult on his exams so make sure you KNOW the definition of words, word for word. A+ teacher
very entertaining, but extremely stubborn, pompous and proud
First time taking a religion based class. Teacher was very helpful when I had questions about the reading. There are no assignments just 3 midterms and a final. Only bad thing was that the class has only 100 pts total so do well on everything. I was pretty bummed to be only 2 pts off from an A! Oh well religion is hard to study!
Chris Jackson is a fun teacher with a passion for philosophy and a sense of humor.
"Master" Jackson is an amazing teacher. He is entertaining, highly imformative and very passionate about his field. He tells you his beliefs but doesn't push them on you and teaches all of the religions equally. I really loved this teacher. Highly recommended. :-)
Very great guy. Not a big fan of the grading system. This style of class should have more of an essay style structure.
Had two classes with Professor Jackson simultaneously, and was very pleased with both. The courses were made very interesting, grading was more than fair, and professor was very interactive with the students. I very much enjoyed this professor.
Very patient with all the dumb questions that were asked in class. If you don't understand the material, that's your own fault. Only negative is that there are hardly any points. There were two XC points the whole term! Overall, super chill person, great teacher, and easy on the eyes. Kind of short though.
Class was a lot more interesting than I had anticipated. I actually really enjoyed the textbook. He's serious about the dealines (FYI), if it says 4:00 he means 4:00 and if you click submit at 4:01 it will be a zero grade... so just be on time and you'll be ok. Enjoy the course!
I'm pretty sure that Jackson is really Dustin Hoffman...he's just that funny!
Jackson is one of the best teachers I have had in my entire life. He is very funny and like to laugh at his jokes and yours. He give great interesting lectures. he always has time to talk if you need help.
Chris makes me want to major in philosophy, if only that would put food on my table (I don't see myself teaching). Controversial because he wants his students to question the status quo and think about their beliefs. Keeps his classes interesting; has a good sense of humor. Also teaches R210; avoid him and Gurevich if you don't have an open mind.
Online class is pretty easy not a lot of work at all. Super easy b but very little wiggle room if you want an a. Next to no assignments be ready for the tests they can be confusing
Took class online. only 6 assignments the whole term. very easy take the class and get and A.
Had Chris for my first look at pholosophy in 99/00. Found a love for it. Took every class he offered and went on to take all at university level. Still love it thanks to his teaching.
Honestly, you should take his class if you have no interest or knowledge of philosophy and you just want to fill a credit. I'm not a fan of some of the things he brings up that he obviously doesn't know much about. Hilarious guy though. His class reminds me of "Philosophy for Dummies" for some reason.
The guy is in love with the subject that he teaches. Great beginning philosophy class.
He is a great instructor, if you need help he'll help. his class was pretty easy but in the test the only thing i hated was fill in the blanks. I always got those wrong but the multiple questions were fair
Chris Jackson is not a good teacher. For teaching a 200 level Philosophy class you would think his tests would be a little easier, however, they are really hard. If you are not a good test taker don’t take this class. He states he’s fair and he’s not fair. If you don’t swing way left politically watch out, he won't respect you. He is deceiving.
This is the guy that introduced me to Philosophy and made me want to dive deeper and deeper into it. He get's you thinking, he loves pushing you to do your best, and he loves debating. Funny guy, good looking, and very knowledgeable on his stuff. Also just a great guy to chat with outside of class. Can't wait to take another class with Chris!
Couldn't be a more easy and straight forward class. All the test questions, pop quiz questions and group work questions were literally based on the questions at the end of each reading. Shot you don't even have to read just know the answers to the questions and your good. He provided the textbook. He jokes! Fun class! He doesn't force any religion
Chris Jackson is a fantastic instructor! I took his class online and it was very interesting and easy. He is more than willing to help if needed. Also, as long as you keep up with the work and watch for deadlines, you will be golden. :) I highly recommend his section of the course.
People say his tests are hard, but the reading is straightforward and gives you exactly what you need to pass. Pay attention and study and you'll get As. He's a little into himself but it's hilarious, get over it and laugh with (at) him, at least he teaches the material really well! Amazing teacher, nice, theatrical guy, and super hot;)
Seriously awesome teacher. Rarely makes you buy a textbook (sometimes he'll write text himself) and he makes failing the class nearly impossible. I've taken a few classes he taught and he eplains everything really well and makes it easy. If you show up and do the reading, you WILL pass. Favorite teacher at MHCC, maybe in my entire school career.
Awesome teacher and fun class. He really has me hooked on philosophy now! TAKE HIS CLASSES!
Hilarious teacher. You WILL have fun in this class. There are 5 pop quizzes, 6 group assignments, 3 midterms, and a comprehensive final. The class is only worth 200 points so there's not a lot of room for error. But I enjoyed his teaching so much I took 3 classes with him.
Very interesting class. It's been a year now since I took his class but I still clearly remember what I've learned in his class.
He is a nice and laid back teacher who is willing to help but he wrote the textbook and expects you to regurgitate his exact words. He is extremely particular in his grading this way. He is also extremely wordy in his text which makes it difficult to recite it. There are 6 exams, 8 group assignments, 5 surprise quizzes.Don't miss a single class!
Chris is a true philosopher. Wonderful teacher who makes his classes engaging and fun. Participation is necessary in any class, but his MAKES you WANT to participate!
+ he's pretty entertaining & friendly enough. - Only 3 lessons all term. Left 1 full wk each for disc post & response, but only 1 day to complete tests & we could not access content until specific times. This was INCREDIBLY inflexible for an online course & caused me to miss TWO tests. I take some resp, but there's a reason I'm online!
I took two classes with him and really enjoyed every minute of every class. I only miss MHCC because I miss having him as a professor. He really wants to share his knowledge in a clear way and he's really fun to talk to. Stop by his office sometime to say "hi" and you're guaranteed an interesting conversation and a laugh.
Easy to pass, but quite hard if you're looking for an A. You better remember every little thing if you wish for it.
Sure the test is tough, but the class and the professor are fair. I'd take him again! Very fair...
Great professor
Jackson is one of the best instructors I have ever had in my life. He is funny and really seems to care for his students. If you are having any trouble with anything in life or class. All you have to do is go to his office and he will do the best he can to help you.
He's very nice and makes an effort to know his students. However, I wouldn't recommend him, because his texts are long-winded (more than being through), and confusing. I found myself questionning whether or not I was actually learning something. Very little room for error (200 pt class). If anything, MAKE NOTECARDS OF ALL HW QUESTIONS!!!
Chris Jackson is one of the best teachers at MHCC. He is passionate about his teaching and his topics. He knows his stuff and wants you to learn it as well. Class discussions are entertaining and informative. He usually uses his own text - which is great and free to you! I recommend taking any of his classes. For real, he is awesome.
The class wasn't hard you just have to do the reading. There is such a small amount of total points that anything can move you. He drops 1 discussion and the lowest test score of 3? and the final if you do better will take place of your lowest test score minus 2 points. There was no required book!
I did not think I would like this class, but Chris Jackson made it very enjoyable and interesting. I loved his style of teaching. He made me want to attend his class everyday. I would recommend this class and I would recommend taking him again for any of his other courses he teaches, which I will be taking his World Religion class in the fall.
Chris is hilarious and never made me feel bored in our two hour class. He assigns a reading every week but they are pretty easy. Very helpful if you're confused and has a very good grading criteria. I would take Chris again.
Awesome teacher, very knowledgeable and great at lectures. I can't think of a single bad thing to say about him, other than the fact that he spent close to 30 minutes collectively talking to students about drummers and NOT ONCE did I hear him mention Ginger Baker.
Chris is seriously one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is extremely helpful. If he feels the whole class, or just one person isn't fully understanding a concept he will explain it in different ways, and show examples until they do. He's super fun and makes every class enjoyable, plus you don't have to buy a book! Definitely recommend him!
I hate the subject. But I loved it after taking it with Jackson! I took his summer course and I was sad it was so short. He makes an effort to learn your name and get to know you. He can come off like a know it all, butttt he knows a lot so it's to be expected!
Chris gets that a majority of his class aren't philosophy majors and makes it to where if you study you pass, it's that simple. I learned a lot from this class and although I won't be pursuing philosophy as a major I'm definitely going to keep reading up on it because of his class. Another bonus is that the textbook is free because he wrote it.
I took PHL201 & R210 with Chris. He does expect a lot by reading his material and learning on your own. He does respond to emails in a timely manner. However, his exams are confusing. I didn't like that he only gives you a little over a day to take an exam, even though the class is online. Very inconvenient. Would take again.
Religion 210 took to fill degree req, online summer course. Really unimpressed, course was to be on world religions, ended up just getting cliff notes on other religions aside from Christianity. Textbook was fairly negative toward religion in general, teacher feedback was 2 to 3 words each paper. What I learned was a few categories on religion, lame
Chris was very passionate about philosophy & it was obvious in his teachings. His class saved me money because he provided a textbook he wrote; he wrote it in way that students can understand the material without a fuss. Only thing I didn't like was how wordy it was. Not an overly hard class, just a lot of reading, group assignments & pop quizzes.
When you ask for help and you do not receive it, that is a problem. I would not take again.
Chris gives his students every chance to do well in his class. There is lots of reading, but he has made it accessible by writing the textbook himself. He is one of the best professors I have ever had and he is by far the best at creating a fun, judgement-free zone for conversation.
One of my favorite professors I've had! W/o previous knowledge & I got an A. Show up and do the homework (readings and study questions), be a "good student" and you'll pass. Make notecards of the study questions from the homework & you'll get A's on quizzes. Free text book! & grades easy.
I took Intro to Philosophy online since I couldnt on campus. I loved the class and the fact the he wrote the own material that we have to read, shows how passionate he is. I loved reading the material. If you want to do good in the class you have to do the study questions to prep for the exams. He graded exams within a day or two.
Doesn't use any powerpoints and talks way too fast without writing on the board so taking notes is impossible. He does write his own textbooks so they are free. Chapters are super long, and doesn't cover the material on quizzes or exams.
Just an overall rad professor that handles the ciriculum in a way that seems balanced and helpful.
Very good class! There is one assignment a week & they dont take long. Exams are all online! Super easy. Hes really nice! TAKE HIM
Do not take him - not compassionate & doesnt care about your grade. Theres only a couple assignments but do good or youll get a bad grade :)
This class is pretty easy, you just need to read and really pay attention to the study questions if you want to pass your exam. The instructor grades exam pretty fast.
I took World Religions during Summer Term 2020 and had it coinciding with Intro to Political Science. Let me just say that taking both of those at the same time was the best thing I could've done for myself and I can't wait to take Chris's Intro to Philosophy class this coming Winter 2020!
He writes his own textbooks and the workload is actually not that bad. Just read and understand the study questions. He responds to emails quickly and will offer zoom meetings.
I took PHL 101 and PHL 202 with Chris and I would take more courses with him if I could! There is one assignment a week. Tests are easy if you do the study questions he gives out. The content of the class is great and makes you think about the world/society from a different perspective. 10/10 recommend
I am really enjoying this class, he wrote the textbook himself and you can tell he is passionate about what he teaches
Chris was one of my all-time favorite professors at MHCC. Writes his own textbook and gives great feedback. This class changes the way you view everything about the world. Great instructor. Great class.
Don't ever take him. He dropped from the class in the first week and wouldn't add me back, he wouldn't help me get a refund or nothing. He is ridiculous. If you want to take the worst teacher at mt hood, take him.
