Overall, this has been my one of my favorite classes that I have taken at Seminole State. He's very nice and understanding. He's clear with his instructions and he cares about his students succeeding. He always answers questions and gives students a decent amount of time to complete their work, too. I would highly recommend his class.
Professor Janus is my favorite english instructor by far. His classes are exciting and not boring like other english classes. If you ask for help he is more than welcome to. Work hard and you will be fine !
Chris makes English a lot of fun. I never really liked poetry, but he made it enjoyable and interesting. He's very helpful, and you get write on virtually anything you'd like t.
Great professor. Since he is so young, I originally thought he was going to be a little inexperienced, but that wasn't the case. He is very knowledgeable, extremely helpful, and gives great feedback on your papers. Turn in every assignment promptly and always do a great job on it, and you'll get an "A".
One of the best English teachers I've ever had, he's young but a very good teacher. If you do every assignment on time and put effort into your work, you should be fine in his class. He assigned 3 papers throughout the semester.
Undoubtedly one of the best professors at SCC. The only possible way to fail this class is by not turning in papers or drafts. He may be younger then most professors but he is extremely caring when it comes to the education of his students and will go above and beyond to help them understand their material. U will not be disappointed in taking him
I had Chris for two semesters (ENC 1101 and 1102). Really genuine, young guy. Intelligent about subject and his lectures were interesting. Always encouraged student input. You'll write 3 or 4 papers and as long as you turn in the rough and final drafts your're going to pass the course. Make sure to do the reading and your golden.
Looks very young, but don't be deceived, he is a very good professor! Offers many opportunities to meet with you and help you. You turn in drafts first and then your final so this gives you a chance for a better grade on your final turn-ins. A lot of writing, not an easy A, but you're given enough help to get an A or B.
Chris loves cats. If you draw a cat on your work before turning it in you will get extra credit.
He is super sweet. He really loves English and is passionate about teaching it.
Yes, he's helpful and a nice person. But he's a tough grader... very tough. If you're confident in your writing skills? Go for it! If you think you're awful at writing? Might want to take a different teacher.
He's a good teacher, but a REALLY tough grader! So if you're not taking a lot of classes, go ahead. But if you're a busy body like me? You'll be stressed under how much you need to do. He won't let you makeup for anything (other than essay revisions) Beware! He grades harshly....
Wonderful teacher! Very dedicated and helpful! He works with you to help you succeed in the class and holds one on one personal conferences to discuss your rough draft before the final draft is due. You will need to attend class to do well, but if you miss for understandable circumstances he will work with you to help you get up to speed.
Gives clear expectations of what he wants from you. Willing to always work with you. Would recommend!
He is nice, but his class is a little hard to get the hang of. You have to live and die by the syllabus. Don't miss any assignments and you could pull off a B. He won't give out A's. He's a tough grader but you do get some chances for revision. The readings are very dull in my opinion and the whole class was essentially based off of the textbook.
GRADES VERY TOUGH seems like he doesn't want anyone to get an A. A lot of assignments but he follows the syllabus exactly and he was very organized and helpful.
Awesome professor! I learned a lot about writing papers for future classes! Very helpful with drafting. He grades fairly, but you'll need to put the work in to get an A.
Asks a lot of questions and likes when you get involved. Teacher is very nice and likes to crack a few jokes. He wants your papers to be well written and grades a little tough. Pop quizzes are his favorite so definitely read the text for HW. Not a teacher to take if you are looking for an easy A, gotta work for it!
Great professor and is very passionate about English. One of my favorite professors and I recommend taking him. I've taken two of his classes and you really will learn something. You have to work for a good grade though, don't except an easy A.
Excellent professor for English II. He is a tough grader, lives by the syllabus, but really cares about his students and wants them to do well on their papers. He gives one on one feedback with each rough draft paper (there's only 3 papers he assigns), therefore it gives you extra assistance on how to really polish your final drafts. He's awesome.
He goes into A LOT of detail when explaining something (long discussions over one simple thing), so mentally prepare yourself for that. Whatever your assigned reading is, is what you're going to spend the entire next class talking about. His essays were fair, he gave detailed feedback and always lets you see his grading rule-brick beforehand.
I took Professor Janus for ENG 1101. I ended the class with a 90%, "A", but you have to work for it. Don't expect this class to be an easy, "A". My advice to those who want to succeed and excel in his class is to go to this office every week and get feedback from your paper. Whatever he tells you is GOLDEN because that's what he is looking for.
Awesome English professor! Probably one my favorite I have taken. He loves poetry. Tough grader but gives you the feedback to succeed. If you fail, it is your own fault.
He was a very helpful teacher, and I enjoyed his class. I liked that he was very passionate about English, and that's what made the course more interesting. There wasn't too much homework, and he gave a couple of extra credit opportunities, so overall it was a pretty easy class.
Professor Janus was probably the best teacher to have for my first English class at SSC. I highly recommend him! He tells you exactly what you need to do to receive a good grade. He isn't really a tough grader if you follow the rubric. He does assign a lot of readings, but most of the time they are intriguing pieces about controversial issues.
Easily best prof I've had at SCC! He is very knowledgeable and you can tell he loves teaching! He is also very helpful and works with students. Highly recommend.
One of my favorite professors! Helped me improve my writing! I got an A but I had to put in effort. Class is very organized and he holds individual meetings to go over papers. His class helped me a lot for future papers! Try to get his class.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. I took him over the summer and there were only two papers due. One paper was four pages and on a story in the book and the last paper was 7-10 research paper. Take his advice and feedback about your papers and you will pass. Quiz at the beginning of each class, but super easy. Tough grader on papers
Chris was a wonderful teacher!! He was easy to relate to and he really understands what he talks about. Always has open office hours if you ever need help!
Towards the beginning of the semester he was really cool and didn't give us a lot of homework but towards the middle of the semester he would start to lecture more and the way he would talk would honestly bore you to sleep. No one in the class would pay attention and then he will give out random pop quizzes. I would defiantly not take his class.
Professor Janus is a really good professor. He gives good lectures and also really valuable feedback.
Professor Janus is awesome! He gives excellent feedback on papers and is always ready to help give you a push in the right direction. His class discussions are open and honest and they give you awesome perspectives. He offers extra credit and there is quite a bit of reading. There is also a lot of writing, so be prepared.
Chris was an awesome professor to have. He makes sure to give feedback on your papers, makes sure to challenge you and really cares for his students. That said he isn't going to give hand you a good grade. You have to work at it but that just makes you a better writer and helps you understand things more clearly as it's called English for a reason.
I enjoyed Professor Janus' class. You will succeed if you do all the assignments and turn them in on time. He is very understanding as well. If you are a first year student then he is the perfect teacher to have because he is helpful and explains everything he requires.
I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He is passionate and knowledgeable. I became a better reader and writer because he teaches you to analyze everything. Do the work, follow his guidance, and you will reap the benefits of a good grade.
Honestly, Chris is caring but I would go to office hours to get help on a paper, he really didn't give enough feedback, I still felt lost that I couldn't grasp what exactly I was suppose to do. Very monotone. He's very visual, he will take it step by step and show you, but as far as advise, no. I bought the book but barely used it. Enjoy!
I took Chris Janus for English I & English II Honors and I feel fortunate for doing so. Chris is an excellent for those who are returning to college after a long break or are in college for the first time. Incredibly informative and constructive with criticism. He is not the easiest, but will work with you if you are willing to put in the effort.
Janus is a very hard grader but if you go to his office hours and get feedback you will be able to pass. Absolutely need the textbook, he gives pop quizzes on the reading homework. He gives a lot of homework during the first half of the term and not so much at the end.
Janus wants everyone to learn and understand the material. He grades a bit hard but if you do the work and ask questions you'll pass with a B or better. His class was fun and through the fun lectures, and conversations in class, you easily learn the material.
Chris was awesome. He's very quirky, but real. He wants everyone to succeed, but has no sympathy for those who give excuses, lie, or just has no motivation to excel in his class. I would not take if you want an easy "A", why are you in college if that's the case. He answers all my messages on canvas and is always there to help you!
hes pretty cool
Wonderful professor, usually merciful with grading. Turn your work in and don't be lazy and you will undoubtably pass. He's quite sweet, too. He tries to avoid putting people on the spot by highlighting good attributes in their work. Always available after class, so many opportunities for extra credit. I will be taking him again!
Only 3 outside essays, 2-3 in-class essays, 3 pop quizzes, and Inquizative work. You could use the Inquizative trial and finish everything in a week, no need to buy the code. ALWAYS use the office hours to have him check your papers. He gives great feedback. Read and highlight the textbook thoroughly, because the pop quizzes are on random details.
Chris is a great professor! Took him for English 1 and got an A, there are 3 main papers and not too much homework. He does grade a bit tough but he lays out exactly what he wants from you in the papers with a rubric. Accessible outside of class and truly wants to see his students succeed. Definitely would recommend Janus!
Chris Janus is amazing to listen to lecture even when he gets a little side tracked
Took him over the summer. One of the best professors I have met. I felt really bad for him due to the class being full of slackers (there was only like 7 people the day a rough draft was due). Gives a lot of feedback and can give more during office hours. Classes were more just discussions than anything. Easy A if you actually put even 20% of care
I took Prof Janus for the summer A term, even though it was fast-paced he still made the class enjoyable and not too stressful.
Chris is a great guy! You can really tell he is a passionate about English and he has the best lectures. Going into college I hated writing but Chris taught me how to be a great writer and reader. Also very funny and quirky. Definitely recommend.
Took in the summer. If you're not a natural born brainiac haha, OFFICE HOURS will get you an A on all your papers. He literally gives you feedback and tells you what corrections to make on your papers before submitting. Read assigned short stories for the pop quizzes (p.s quizzes consist questions about details most students overlook while reading)
Took him last spring, I absolutely adored his classes. I learned a lot about essay writing and never felt like my time was being wasted in his classes. It was always a joy to show up to his class.
Chose Chris based on his reviews & I was pleased with the outcome. He's a younger professor & keeps the class alive with jokes, if you can pick up on them. I'm not the strongest writer but his feedback on our papers have helped me. 10/10 would recommend going in for office hours if you need help. I wouldn't take this professor if youre absent a lot
Chris is like a weird type of hot. I liked hin a lot. He is a great professor and really helps and cares. Go to his office hours
Janus is one of the best professors I have had so far in college. None of the assignments/papers are difficult but they are time consuming. Janus helps you with understanding what you really want to write about and has a great way of explaining it. If you go to his office hours for addition help on your papers, you will leave with a confident view.
ENC1102 is definitely more work than ENC1101. I took Chris for ENC1101 and took him again for ENC1102. I'm glad I did because I knew his expectations. If you are taking this class and you know you wont put full effort in, take another professor. This class makes you work for your A but it is not impossible to get.
Really cool teacher. He has good experience in writing himself so he will help teach you. Gave good amount of feedback on the 3-4 writing papers due, focused on poetry mainly. Last paper was a freeballer, but like 8 pages long. Class is very discussion based so you have to speak out your thoughts on readings with him. Overall good teacher.
Chris Janus is a really cool guy, he genuinely cares about his students and wants them to pass. All the homework assignments were online and easy. Take advantage of his office hours to get help on your essays, read what he assigned, and you will pass with flying colors. I took him for ENC1101 and ENC1102 I would strongly recommend taking him.
Professor Janus is an amazing professor, young and really knows how to engage his students. Starts off the class with interesting discussions and topics and then goes into the essay topic stuff after evaluating the skills of his students. I sucked at English very much but after taking his class it has really brought my creativity light back.
He's a pretty cool guy, I took him for English 1 & 2 & did pretty well. He gives very thorough feedback which is super helpful & makes papers a lot easier. He talks a lot & if you have a dull class it can make things kind of awkward bc it's a very discussion heavy class, but he really does care about all his students.
Chris was a great teacher, as long as you show up to class and do the reading you'll be fine.
Professor Chris was a great instructor because he gets the class involved. He cares for his students, and his door is always open if you need help. He grades fairly, but if you put in honest, hard work, then your grades will reflect that. I enjoyed his class so much for ENC 1101 that I decided to take his course for ENC 1102 Honers.
Starting off the class he was fine but I soon discovered how tough he was when he would randomly give out pop quizzes and would take points off for the smallest thing like if you write 11 words when he asked for 10 he would take out 10 points off the grade. Would not take again do not recommend SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!
Professor Janus is a wonderful professor! Very passionate about English, and it will show! Amidst all of this COVID-19 chaos, he was one of the most efficient out of all my teachers. I do recommend that you engage in his classroom, as it will help in understanding the class material. Overall, if you're unsure, give him a try, and give him your all!
hes a good teacher but gives a lot of work back to back. responds to emails. sometimes doesnt give good feedback.
Want to work extra hard, waste time in class listening to things that aren't relevant, etc? Then this teacher is perfect for you! I have never left a review before you guys need to know what to expect. Extra tough grader so don't expect to get A's unless you're Einstein. Horrible experience, will never recommend, and will never ever take again.
Do not take this class unless you want to waste your money and make English a priority when you're going for a different career. During the virus, this teacher assigned more work than necessary. I was drowning in English while I had 4 other classes to worry about. Also a very tough grader so don't expect to get an A.
Prof. Janus was an amazing professor for Honors English II! 3 essays (a poetry paper, a character analysis paper, and a research paper), a quote journal, 1 group project, etc. But NO midterm or final exams! If you go to his office hours for help on the assignments and correct them, you will pass the class! TAKE HIM and IGNORE the last two reviews!!
Had him for a STANDARD class and it felt like I was taking honors. While he assigns 3 papers which is 6-8 pages long, he also gives pop quizzes, group assignments, and yes there is a final exam. He even required one during the virus. Very tough grader and can come across as rude sometimes. Highly recommend another English teacher!!
Professor Janus is a wonderful professor. He makes every one of his assignments easy to understand and if you have questions he will explain it the best he can. He does do pop quizzes on the reading so be ready and read beforehand. Also, transitioning to online was new but he made it simple to be in contact with him.
Multiple papers required, not terribly difficult, there is plenty of time to complete them, gives great feedback as well. Instructions are clear and concise. Responds to messages quickly and offers office hours for more in-depth questions. As long as you watch the lectures and turn in something you worked hard on you will pass.
Professor Janus is an awesome professor, his lectures are very complete, and he makes sure that you understand. He is clear with his expectations and gives detailed feedback. He makes himself available for his students and always ready to help even for writing an essay for scholarship or application. If you are ready to learn, he is the best choice
Amazing professor. All you have to do is pay attention and try your best. You can ask him any question to help you with your assignments or essays and he will answer. He gives amazing feedback in rough drafts so when you ready to turn in the Final draft its a given easy A as long as you pay attention to what he asks for. I would take him again!!!
I had him for ENC1102H. Year started off okay but he did get tedious with his assignments later on. He assigns a large amount of homework in the beginning of the year, so beware. there are 3-4 essays throughout the semester but no major exams.
Professor Janus is the best! I always struggled with English but throughout this class, I have been more confident about writing essays and doing research. He gives great feedback on mostly all assignments and even though I took this course online, I still felt the teacher-student bond through his video lectures. Hope to have him again for ENC1102.
He gets very frustrated if you dont come to class, and if the majority of the class is not participating in the discussion after hw readings, he will start to do pop quizzes. Hes very chatty, but gives you the opportunity to know him which is beneficial. And if you focus on his feedback on your rough drafts, youll get a good grade on final draft
Professor Janus is very caring among his students. He doesn't take attendance and provided great feedback on his assigned essays and research paper.
I don't know where to begin. Professor Janus was the best professor I've ever had. If you want to succeed in English 1 and improve your writing skills, this is your guy. He has made me a better writer than I could imagine and gave me tools to improve. If this comment section let me type more than 350 characters, I would write an essay about him.
Best English teacher ever. Took him for a 6 week short term course. He gives you all the info you need to succeed in his class. He also gives Great feedback and respond to emails fast. Im taking him again for english two. if you can just take him don't hesitate
Professor Janus is a very caring person, he provides life advice while also improving your writing skills. He is passionate about teaching which is why you won't pass his class if you do not put in the effort. He takes time to read and provide feedback for every assignment so he knows when you are trying and when you are not. Highly recommended
Somewhat dry but a very informative class. He thought me a lot of great tips on how to write and research for great essays that I still use in my work to this day. This course is a must-take for peeps that plan to do lots of writing. His extensive academic history is evident and leads to some great insider secrets. He gives great feedback too!
Professor Janus was a pretty good teacher. Prepare to read stuff from the textbook and have pop quizzes. As long as you put effort in, you will be fine. Also, be sure to read all of the feedback he gives you on assignments. The feedback is very helpful, but he also is looking to make sure you use it in your next paper or final draft.
Took this course as a High school student, and I felt that Professor Janus was a really good Teacher. For anyone who is wanting to dual enroll here at Seminole state, I would recommend him. On the other hand, be prepared for a couple of essays to write and make sure you put a good amount of effort into this class.
Good professor and not boring. Lots of reading and sometimes pop quizzes on the readings. assigned about 4 essays. if you need help or have questions he'll help you with what you need. Also gives good feedback on papers. Overall good class and would take it again, easy A
Professor Janus provided clear weekly assignments and expectations, he encouraged his students to email or visit his office if they need help. His videos are informative, he's fair and will work with you. He doesn't overload homework and provides meaningful feedback on his writing assignments. I hope to take him for English 2.
Professor Janus gives really good feedback and thoroughly explains the assignments. It is fairly easy but there is also a lot of writing assignments. However, he was very helpful when it came to revising essays and gave good advice on what can be improved, so those writing assignments were not too stressful. Overall, the class was pretty fun.
Christopher Janus was an amazing teacher! his lectures were very entertaining and I would 100% recommend him to anyone. He loves his job and it shows immensely. Easy class!
BEST PROFESSOR! He is so kind and really wants to see you succeed! Light work: there are only two main essays. He gives incredible feedback on rough drafts; if you just do what he suggests you will get an easy A. English wasn't my favorite before, but Prof. Janus made it so fun and easy: my favorite class of the semester! 10/10 would take again!!!
Professor Janus is very helpful with the papers that you have to write in this class. There are a few miscellaneous assignments as well as the labs but other than that its the two papers that are required. Chris was so helpful especially during the last week where I expressed I really needed an A to keep my current A and gave me wonderful feedback.
almost as good as Hugh Janus
Pretty good not much to say, its just english
Loved my ENC1101 class, will take him again for 1102. There were 2 essays & the grading criteria was very clear & easy to follow
He was awesome! I took his ENC1102 online class in the fall of 2024, and I can't say enough good things about it. He provided tons of valuable feedback on my essays, which greatly improved my writing skills. If you put in the effort and followed his guidance, he generously offered sincere compliments. Highly recommend taking his course!
He's been very shady when grading and throws small shots at your effort, then calls it "generous grading", very unprofessional in my opinion. He's very picky and nitpicks at every little thing, especially when grading essays. His feedback consists of everything you did wrong or what he didn't like and then you're given a just below average grade.
