Chris Jensen made this class really easy. We wrote one page essays about the reading selections or questions that he posed. We also had easy weekly quizzes, one midterm, and a final essay. Chris is an awesome instructor--I wish I had him for my other classes.
I've had Chris for two different classes and he is one of the best, if not the best, teacher I've had at PCC. He intergrates various teaching methods and promotes good, interesting discussions.
I'm really glad none of the other lit teachers want to teach the Bible as literature. I can not imagine taking this class from anyone else. He re-kindiled my interest in the Bible, and that is saying a lot.
He's really intelligent, you can tell instantly that he knows what he's talking about. Handles the Bible as Lit class very sensitively, considering some teachers could turn it into touchy subject matter. Really cares about what the students think, we have to write one-page memos instead of essays, which helps because it's a bit more informal.
There are many ****bag writing teachers out there; Chris is not one of them! He tries hard and prefers to assume the best about his students instead of the worst. I greatly recommend this teacher for WR 121 and WR 122.
What I liked most about him, was that he didn't seem to lean one way or the other as far as religion goes. The class is a lit class, not a religious studies or a debate class, and I'm glad he kept it that way. Some of the readings from the textbooks were challenging, but the weekly memos were neat because they were more personal than an essay.
Great Teacher. You ever need help or have a question, he'll be more than happy to help you. His classes aren't boring at all, always something interesting to do. You still got to work for your A, but awesome guy. Highly recommended.
Jensen is awesome. He's often random and funny in class, he helps you out and he makes the class feel like more of a group than most classes.
There's a passion about Chris' teaching that makes you not want to miss a class. He offers a variety of sources to compliment course material, so you don't feel like you're undergoing an exhaustive study of the Bible, though we do explore chapters in depth. I didn't know quite how we'd approach the Bible as Lit., but he's done a great job with it!
this is my FAVORITE instructor EEEEEEEVER!!!! he is sooo helpful. every time i needed help on my papers, he was always there to help. i recommend him to ANYONE. especially someone that wants to major in writing.
Excellent approach to studying the Bible as literature. Uplifting course with excellent group activities.
Very awesome. He expects a lot, but his standards aren't too high for the studious. If you want to slack off, take a different class. Otherwise, I highly recommend him!
I dreaded taking a writing class but Jensen made it enjoyable. He is funny and the class goes by fast. If you get the right teacher writing can be fun...Jensen is the right teacher!
Jensen is one of the best teachers I ever had for writing. "He said that an essay is never an essay because you could always go back to check it years from now" this truly made me happy he always helped students and we discuss topics in class in order to do good. Mr. Jensen is the best and I will recommend him to anybody. He is fun, helpful and ca
Chris is an all around great teacher and guy! I never liked writing before but he made it fun! He was very understanding & always helpful. Funny & Passionate! Most of the terms writing topics were around food, as weird as that sounds it made for some interesting & fun papers! No text-book but you do read "Fast Food Nation" & only write 4 papers.
He kept class interesting
awesome teacher, deffinately reccommend. As long as you show up to class and do your work you get full credit. you only get graded on 3 essays
Mr. Jensen is one of the best and most interesting writing teachers i have had. He keeps things fun and is very open to changes. He encourages your to use your own voice in your research and is always very helpful. Take his class if you can, you will love it!
The best teacher at PCC period.I took him for WR121 and 122 few terms back. I wish he taught all my classes.
Chris is a fantastic teacher - witty, amusing, fun, helpful. He puts a postive spin on his material and makes class enjoyable. Easy A. However - did I learn anything in the Bible as Literature class? Apart from hearing an entire Dr Seus story book for the first time and attending a totally unrelated poetry reading - no.
A true writing professor! Do everything you can to take one of his classes. He made me a better writer, and you will learn so much. I loved it!
Jensen is such a fun teacher, it is never boring and he has the craziest and fun examples ever. But you still learn a lot. It is never boring, and he makes learning fun. His teaching style is incredible and i had fun in his class. He is very helpful, whenever you need him he's always there.
I love this guy!!!Why can't they all be like him?
amazing teacher!!! made every class really fun, it was a class that i really looked forward to. Really funny guy. Inspired the class to love literature. AWESOME!!!!
Absolutely loved the atmosphere in which he made class fun! he pushed our limits and had us work on personal stories that were emotional and through that I gained more then just writing experience so THANK THE LORD for teachers like Jensen
really love this teacher! He is amazing!
Is very open to all writing and is very interesting to listen to. I would recommend him to anybody.
Really cool teacher. Very laidback and funny. Wasn't a fan of the daily quizzes(not as bad as it sounds) but i guess it was nice not having homework other than reading. There are 2 midterms and a final paper. Class is fairly straightforward. Show up, take a simple quiz on the reading, and discuss it in class as a whole or in groups.
Any teacher who plays jazz during class is cool in my book.
Really enjoyed his class. Good grader, focuses on the technical aspects of your writing, which I think is very necessary. Very interesting to talk with. Always willing to lend an ear.
He makes writing fun. He is understanding and really encourages you. If you can put up with a little Jazz music in the classroom, this is definitely the writing class for you.
Great guy! Very cool. He used to be a journalist and likes to tell about his life and experience. Plays jazz during class. Tough grading on papers, but lets you revise multiple times.
Bible as Lit. He made the Bible very digestible, even for someone with 0 prior exposure. Great Teacher.
Chris is an excellent teacher! He plays jazz music during class. He made writing enjoyable, not just something you have to do for homework. Take advantage of his office hours, he will help you proofread your paper and help you understand where you can make it better. By the end of the class, he turned my hate of writing into a love of writing.
Best professor I've ever had! Had him for both WR121 and ENG275. He is absolutely incredible. Take his classes!
Chris's class was easy yet i learned so much from him. He had cool ways to teach us the tricks of writing. I had him for WR 115 and I am hoping to take his WR 121 class next spring. GREAT TEACHER!
I took Chris for English 104 over the summer and he really changed my perspective on reading. I used to hate reading for fun but after this class it is a lot more enjoyable. He is a n amazing professor and I would highly recommend you take him for at least one class if you can. You won’t regret it!
BEST TEACHER EVER. 'nuff said. But honestly, he is very thorough, articulate, encouraging, and smart. Attend class, do the assignments, and you have your A! :) He is the best teacher I've had at PCC.
this was my second class i have taken with chris, and i have to say this was the worst and hardest class i have had from him. There is way to much for work for a wilderness literature class. The authors we read about were all the same, and most where what i would call crazy environmentalists !!! It got old fast.
Best teacher I've had at PCC! Highly recommend him!
He is amazing! All my friends were so jelous of my course work. I has 3 essays the whole class, and we edited them and revised them and has our peers give feedback. They were personal and interesting and not too long. He also is funny and loves what he does. Take his class
I love this professor! Honestly can't think of anybody better. He is such a friendly, enthusiastic person, and really makes it fun and interesting to be in his class. He always provides helpful, effective feedback. Definitely worth it to have meetings with him. Always friendly, and just wants to help you grow. When I take WR 122 I hope I have him.
Mr. Jensen is amazing! Super helpful. Helped revised my final essay. Has high expectations but only to push you further & make you a better writer. Allows revision of 1 essay for better grade. Lots of reading (Autobio of Malcolm X), 80+ pages/week. Too much when you are taking a full load of classes. Very engaging class, actually enjoyed writing.
Chris is a great instructor! There are only three main essays due in the course and each one gets weeks for revision and peer editing. He is extremely helpful and gives great one-on-one feedback on assignments. He does play jazz music sometimes, but it is quiet and never bothered me. Just try your best and turn in all due work to ace the class.
he is very helpful i am very glad i took this class and lucky he is a great guy and teacher.
Really great instructor. You can tell he's passionate about getting his students to write and furthering their education. He makes the class easy for people who even dislike writing. Excellent feedback and group discussion, you can tell how easy he tries to make the class as well. Really good guy in general. I would highly recommend him.
Chris was a journalist, and focuses on improving concision--a must-take for people interested in writing professionally. He teaches principles some people go through university without. He's tons of fun, and really focuses on environmentalecological perspectives throughout the class. Possibly the greatest teacher I've had in my 2 full years.
Mr. Jensen is fantastic. He is very approachable and gives excellent feedback. We have done 3 main papers this term with a few mini-assignments in between, and if you are able to follow simple instructions, you're golden. Our class feels family-like. Thank you Mr. Jensen for all that you do!
Professor Jensen is an awesome writing teacher. You have three main papers and a couple small assignments here and there. You read interesting stories and he makes class fun! I never skipped his class.
Has a great balance of group and solo work, low pressure and always willing to help. Gave a lot of handouts in my class, rather than having us take notes.
Great instructor! He's a big fan of free writes. Great feedback on essays, but never got an A.
Does a good job of making a bible class not religious. I loved him but disliked most of my classmates. Quizzes are done in groups. Write a few papers, participate in lectures, a few individual tests. Take this class even if you are not religious, it is way more interesting than it sounds. Text book is a specific bible and a small book.
I really enjoyed taking Writing 121 from Chris Jensen. He's nice, he really wants you to do well, and he does all the assignments along with the class.
Jensen is a great teacher, but a hard grader. I've always gotten high A's in writing and English classes but I only got a B in his class. 3 papers. Good amount of class work. Loves Jazz and free writes.
hes a awesome professor!
Jensen is a great teacher! He understands that this is a mandatory class for most people and that not everyone likes to write and seeks to meet you where you are at. As long as you put in the effort to do the assignments he will work alongside you and help you succeed.
He is awesome! He makes writing fun! He doesn't give out a lot of homework, but if you don't do it you will fall behind. He knows what he's teaching and he is really funny. I would take him again!
Jensen is great! I love reading and he has made it especially fun. There are a lot of short stories to read followed by a short quiz at the beginning of the next class to make sure you've done your reading. There was also two books we read. There are not too many paper's, and they are easy. His class is very enjoyable.
He likes to a lot of nature related activities which I'm not a huge fan of, but he is super supportive. After every meeting that I had with him, I went away feeling like I learned something new and like I had someone to go back to if I needed help with anything. Take time to do your work and you'll easily pass his class.
Jensen was the best writing teacher I have ever had. Starting class at 8am was early, and he knew it. He constantly joked with us and memorized everyones names by the end of the first week. The papers were fun to write and he is a fair grader and gives you chances to fix it. Ive never met someone who can relate to everyone in the class!
Chris is a great professor who engages his students. He encourages free thought and doesn't judge you for your opinions. Harsh on grading, but gives you the chance to learn and improve through revisions.
I really liked Mr. Jensen. He was a caring professor who worked hard and seemed genuinely interested in his students. I do wish that I would've gotten more feedback from him personally on essays because I was stuck with some horrible peer graders who left me fending for myself in terms of revision.
He may talk a lot during class but he explains what he wants in his assignments. The essays are easy. He gives us at least three weeks to work on essays and gives a full schedule on what is due. We do some readings. Some long or short.
Chris really helped me get into writing and enjoy it. Not the easiest grader, but definitely a fair one. Really soothing and informative lectures, and helpful in and out of class. I absolutely would recommend him to anyone.
I would take Jensen again but dont expect an A out of his class. He makes you work for it and doesnt give you any slack on your papers. If you write comma splices and fragments, youre most likely gonna get a B or C.
Chris makes writing a relaxing and enjoyable experience through his kindness and laid back classroom atmosphere. Chris is thoughtful in his responses to your papers, or just your questions in class, never making you feel stupid or belittled. He is a smart writer, with a background as a professional journalist. Would highly recommend.
The textbook has the short stories we read in class but can easily be found as PDF's online. I recommend listening tot he audio books (they're on youtube) while you read.
Jensen isn't the best writing teacher I've had and he wasn't the worst. People who barely tried on papers were getting the same grade as me, not very fair because I worked my butt off and they slacked. Classes were incredibly boring and I didn't learn much. Book was rarely used so just get the PDF version and print anything out for annotating.
I think he was a really fun instructor. He always plays jazz music to get us in the writing mood which I honestly didn't mind. I really liked the class it was super easy and he was clear about what to watch for when youre writing your paper. He ended class early quite a bit but then again, it's a writing class so not much to talk about.
I don't like writing but Jensen made his class engaging. He's a tough but fair grader and gives helpful feedback during one-on-one conferences. There are a total of 3 essays. He breaks them into parts to turn before turning in the final paper for a grade. His explanations and expectations are straightforward. Great teacher overall.
Got something out of the class. Decent amount of homework. Unprofessionally put in his own political opinions a few times, which I did not appreciate nor agree with. Felt a lot like propaganda.
Instructor Jensen is an amazing person and teacher. I found his course to be very clear cut and to the point which really helped me stay on track and get a good grade. The assignments and projects are appropriately challenging for the course level (121). His feedback and teaching style will help you improve your writing without the added pain!
class was always really engaging. He can be a bit awkward at times but he is really interesting and leads a fun class environment. He is always very clear with his grading criteria but edits can be a little confusing at times so ask clarification and you're all set. Always plays jazz music and gives fun book recommendations as well. Very fun class!
I really liked Prof. Jensen. He was very clear on how things should be done and how to do it right. He cared for his students making sure everyone understood what he was talking about. He also has a calm voice and it is easy to listen to. Professor Jenson is truly an amazing teacher!
Really fun professor and class! I loved the homework and the stories. It did not feel like I was doing work, but more that I was doing something I was interested in. I would take another class from Jensen again in a heartbeat.
Jensen's really straightforward on how to do well. He does take attendance as part of the grade. There's a lot of peer review in the class and online discussions, and he gives you plenty of time to write essays. He's really good about giving personal and detailed feedback. His teaching's effective and he's a really nice guy.
Worst instructor I ever had! I don't understand how he gets so may good reviews.
This course is mainly graded on three essays, while he grades the other assignments on completion. Although he gives excellent feedback, he also is a challenging grader who emphasizes grammar and including personal experiences. Also, he starts right away, so be prepared to be assigned a draft during the first class.
I love him! he's very sweet and when I was having a difficult time mentally he was very understanding
Mr. Jensen is a sweet, and great guy. He gives good and useful feedback, and will work with you outside of class if you ask. There's discussion posts on Thursdays, and papers on Tuesdays. I had 3 total essays. I highly recommend him.
Chris is the best writing teacher you could have, he is very caring. I really enjoyed his class, he is very kind. His grading is not too hard but you definitely can't give him a paper you wrote the night before it's due.
He is a very tough grader. There are no extra credit options but he does offer one revision. You can access him outside class by conferences. But, the grading is what really brought me down on my essays he focuses on the tiniest details too. Almost if a robot graded it.
If you want to learn how to write a high-quality research paper, I recommend him. Class was structured very well and skills built naturally, cresendoing in a research essay that didn't seem anywhere near as intimidating as you wrote it than it did day one when you were getting over your syllabus shock.
Professor Jensen was overall a good instructor, he gave good feedback on essay drafts, and was understanding!
engaging teacher
goated for sure. 10 pages worth of essays total and relatively quick discussion posts. thorough feedback and decently engaging in class considering its an intro writing course. the essays are only like 40 percent of your grade and the rest is essentially participation points so grading is very lenient
Great lectures, good at explaining things. There wasn't a lot of reading, the few required readings they were pretty short and interesting to read. Peer "reviews" were the most amount of "group work" and it was to gain feedback. Things were submitted in person and online, easy to catch up if you missed a class.
This was the hardest class I took this term because of the heavy amount of assigned homework. We were expected to do a lot of reading, (which makes sense) but then we had to write a 2-3 paragraph discussion post and a 1-2 page paper every week on top of that. Additionally, the stories tended to have crass humor and be inappropriate. Nice guy tho.
This is a reading class, all about it, so prepare. Mr. Jensen is awesome, I've taken his classes before and he is an awesome person. Lots of reading and mini-quizzes to make sure you understand the material, but easy to keep up. Awesome reading choices he provides. As he says, like a book club without the wine. 2 full books, lots of short stories.
