He's insane. But you learn a lot. Worth the work.
Kasch is crazy, but he's a nice guy. Lots of work, but worth it.
He doesn't teach easy classes, but man are they entertaining.
A lot of fun but not necessarily the most useful class.
Serendipitously Hot
The guy is CRAZY. His class is fun and rewarding. The most rewarding class I took at BU. He expects a lot out of his students, but expects nothing out of reach. Plus if you let yourself you will have a lot of fun.
The 101 Things I Learned in 101/207 are nuts, but true. Went out of his way to make himself available and would help out if you hit a block. The Powerpoint King, just never put more than like 3 words on a slide... Heavy workload class, but fun
Self admittedly is one of those guys that you can go out for a beer with, but will still flunk you on the class you need for a core. Don't lie about medical stuff-- he knows!!!
WEIRD!!!! At first I was scared, I would shrink back in class so not to get called to rise for 2zero7 and answer, he calls on ppl with a laser pointer. once in class some random people sat in and he made them participate. lotsa powerpoints.
The best. Very cool.
COM 207 is all i have to say... Also he is very computer and team based.
Don't take his classes if you don't want to work in a group. He's very Powerpoint-oriented. The man is insanely weird, but funny as hell. It isn't about the book at all - he teaches you how to get along with others. I've loved his classes.
Kasch is awesome! he makes the class fun and is pretty funny. dont take it, tho, if you dont want to work because there's a LOT to do - even outside of class. The power points are endless, but kasch sees your effort..hint, hint. a very good teacher
While I enjoy Kasch as a fun guy to learn from, what you learn is more or less worthless. It turned me off of Communications...though this is not his fault at all. Funny guy!
I thought he was weird at first, but Kasch is awesome. Read the chapters for the quizzes and start early on the group project. Fairly easy grader and very funny. He's a cool guy!
great teacher. I really like the format of the class. one class i actually looked forward to.
Go to class. up untill the midterm I had my first A going on in this class. He is such a fun guy anyway. Take whateever you can w/ him!
Don't take this class unless you like your grade hinging on other people. I did all my work and got As on the tests but got a B in the class because of my lazy group. He is self absorbed and strange - creepy office
There is nothing better than a prof who makes fun of himself. Do what he says..the best way is his way, make sure that you have fun making a powerpoint that should be as redundant as all of his.
Weird guy. Kinda like a mix of Will Ferrell's Janet Reno and Phil Donoghue. The class is pretty painless, though, and he at least tries to entertain. For a class (101) where he could just go on auto-pilot, he actually seems interested.
The guy who made the reference to Phil Donahue and Will Ferrell's Janet Reno (with a bad hip) was right on. This guy has a fun time explaining things (often at his own expense) and tries his best to keep an otherwise bored-to-death class interested. Wow.
He is hillarious but doesn't explain what he wants. We never know when assignments are due because there is no syllabus! LOTS of group work and he is really picky, but you will get a good laugh out of his dry humor
He is very unmotivated to work with students.
Don't take him for Com 101!!! He doesn't know how to teach the material, you have quizes with questions that come out of nowhere, and you have a huge group project to do!
Kasch is a good guy, but sometimes the format of the class is hard to follow. Obviously, only take this class if you are okay with working in groups. I am a very organized person, and Kasch is not, and that bothered me with concern to his assignments.
Very unorganized. A ton of work. Test every week and a 20 page single spaced final. Lot of work for a 100 level course
A good number of my class is actually transfering after seeing this fine example of Bradley University professorship in action. Can't teach at all, and never teaches what's on the quiz. He also uses a bell curve, so now an 85% or below is a C.
Good teacher, but there is a lot of work that is definatley unnecessary.
I think Kasch is an excelent prof. he's a bit different than most, but that's because he's trying to keep us interested (and lets face it lots of students want an A but don't want to work). i loved the class.
entertaining, interesting, and I was able to make applications from what he taught to my real world. first class I have had where the prof treated everyone like adults, rather than 13th grade.
This prof has been helpful in providing feedback as to how I'm doing in the class, and being willing to show me other resources that have benefited me. I have learned valuable skills that I will take with me into the real world. Thanks!
What's with all the sniveling from these students who claim Prof. Kasch is too hard? I can't believe how many people want an A for nothing. I've actually been in the working world, and learned a lot from Prof. Kasch.
Kasch isn't easy, but then what would the point of that be? He knows his material, and prepares his students for life after college as well as anyone I've taken. Listen and learn.
I like Kasch or I wouldn't have taken 207 I had him for 101 and I know his style. I think the group projects are a great learning experience, they are alot of work but thats life. I was very proud of my group project when it was all over.
Kasch is awesome. You will learn so much from this course. It's hard work and you have to be committed, but it's well worth it for the experience. He knows what he is talking about and has good intentions. This should be a requirement for all students
Chris plain and simple rocks. If you are attentive in class, you can rock your tests. Chris is very helpful if you show a willingness to learn, participate and ask questions. Be there or be square! This is a cool class and material.
Kasch is, while very humorous and entertaining, one of the poorest professors at Bradley. It could be subject matter he has to teach as Com prof - it's fairly ambiguous, real-world-applicableless crap. But he's worth it for some funny quotes to everyday!
be prepared for a lot of useless work but you can get an A if you just do it. He cannot help you with the powerpoint technically because he has no clue how to work anything. He gets annoying but if you are willing to work you'll get through fine.
He is crazy, but its a fun class, and gaurntee you will learn something.
He is so hilarious and makes class very enjoyable.
This class was not what I expected it to be. I simply memorized answers instead of learning the concepts behind them because that was all that was required. The tests were poorly written..grammar errors abounded. What does that communicate to students&
He is a little strange but is a nice guy. He is funny and makes the class interesting. There are a lot writing assignments which Kasch doesn't grade hard. Overall, this is a pretty good class unless if you don't like to work in groups.
EHS 120 is a worthless class. DO NOT TAKE IT. Kasch is a good guy, though... Very dry sense of humour; very funny.
Okay, something about this man just rubs me the wrong way... other than that, the class is super easy, just do well on the project(s) and try not to get burned out over the weekly exams/tests/quizzes. Well, just try not to get burnt out over the class itself.
I am convinced that Chris pregames before class... Anyways despite the unbelievable grammatical errors, this class is fairly easy. The quizzes are simple as long as you read. The group project is a pain. Chris can seem a little crazy and disoriented, but that makes the class entertaining.
kinda hard, but hilarious man
I LOVE CHRIS! He's like the crazy long lost uncle I never had. Sometimes I wish that I was old so that we could be best friends. Seriously, this guy is nuts but in a great way. Class is tough if you don't read. Follow the objectives he hands out weekly and you'll be fine. I laughed every class!
Kasch is so awesome! He will make you talk and get involved, and he keeps it interesting. Don't take if you are not comfortable in front of a class.
He is insane!! Bring him chocolate! Keep up with your assignments and definitely study for the quizzes. This is not a class for people who procrastinate. Group project is kind of a pain. Ask a lot of questions. Remember: Competence comes from knowledge, skill and motivation.
Very fun teacher in a wacky sort of way.
I think this is the only time he's ever taught class w/out a group project, so be thankful. The book is horrible (Neil Postman) but all sections use it so you can't avoid it. His class is less work than other sections, and probably more amusing (yet somehow boring at the same time). He's weird.
Nice guy, really laid back class. Grading is very subjective even if you read and study.

He never teaches anything thats on the test! I really think he just rambles on and on about nothing! Plus he really annoyingly sounds like a race announcer...
"Stand up for EHS 120" His favorite quote..everyday!
To describe Dr. Kasch to all the students who have NOT experienced him yet...(Yes, i said experienced him instead of had him), one must think of hippy crossed with a dinosaur. And that is Dr. Kasch, my friends...
I remember me and a friend joined the class late, and started at the second class. Kasch then proceeds to jump into a bunch of COM stuff (we were BUS majors). We almost died that first class. As it turns out, Kasch was one of the best teachers we've ever had and we find ourselves still quoting him to this day. STAND UP FOR COM 399!
fourOne7 is the best course I have taken while at Bradley. "I wish he was my pa."
"I don’t see the point of this course for my future educationally or working career. I found the book completely banished any reverence in my future career, the exams did not test on any useful material to useful material to use outside book work."
Only took this class because it was recommened for incoming freshmen. Class was really easy and it was only one day a week. We showed up and he talked for an hour or we watched a movie. He says that you are only allowed to miss two classes and then you fail but I know people that missed more then that and still passed. Really easy to pass EHS
stand up for com 1-OH-1 ! kasch is a funny guy and the class is pretty easy. just make sure to do the reading and the questions every week. super funny and nice guy after you get over the assigned seats deal. take him for com 101! "communication is the most fun you can have with the lights on" - chris kasch

Hardest class to go to everyday because nothing in class except for videos end up on the test. Yes, he's hilarious, but he rambles on about nonsense the entire time. If attendance weren't mandatory, I would have never gone. Tests are on the objective questions, which he posts online and on the videos. Glad it's over.
Media literacy videos and lectures were interesting. Instructor furnishes the specific exam objectives. Teams construct answers to the objectives which are posted on the net. Spend time studying for exams.
I never have been so amused in my entire life as when I am sitting in class talking about Neil Postman with Dr. Kasch.
do not take this class.. hes a nice guy but his tests do NOT make sense.. not only are they grammatically incorrect they also have various information errors. its honestly a lottery who gets good grades and who doesnt by the end of the semester people stopped studying for these test because they were so ridiculous
STAND UP FOR COM FOUR-ONE-SEVEN! Get used to hearing that. This was a really interesting class but the grade was based on just 9 25-30 point quizzes. So you HAD to read and understand everything or you fail. You dont have to come to class but he shows some interesting videos if you do. Enjoy but be careful.
Old school - read - discuss-test. Ask questions in class if you do not understand the reading, but make sure you understand the reading. "You get out of it what you put it to it." I worked hard and it was a good learning experience. Be in class for the DVDs/video you will be tested.
This guy is so hilarious without even trying. I can't believe he actually exists. You need to take a class with him just to see what I'm talking about.
This is the worst professor I had in my four years at Bradley. Despite obviously having extensive knowledge and understanding of the material being covered, he manages to ruin the class by injecting personal anecdotes, political opinions, and his complete incompetence when using a Mac disguised as the Mac's supposed "inferiority" on a daily basis.
Very difficult class. The reading is difficult, hence the quizzes are difficult-one on every chapter. Time intensive group project and presentation. This ain't 13th grade, best be ready to work
hard?adjective difficult or troublesome with respect to an action, situation, person, etc difficult to deal with, manage, control, overcome, or understand: a hard problem severe or rigorous in terms: a hard bargain performing or carrying on work requiring great effort, energy, or persistence BE CAREFUL
One of the better teachers at Bradley. Genuinely interested in student learning. Read and study.Read and study. Read and study.
this class is a complete joke. you dont have to go to this class at all. just make sure you read the text cause thats what the tests are on. he sends you the objectives which ARE the test questions. this class was stupid but im taking him again next semester because it was such a blowoff
Good thing he furnishes exam objectives or I would have failed for sure. Interesting course. Massive research paper.
Interesting lecture-discussions on media literacy. Read the book, attend class, study for exams and you'll be ok. Good learning opportunity if your interested in learning.
Excellent course. Outstanding professor. Amusing instructor, but he is there to teach not to entertain. If you just want to read the night before exams do not take this course. He is interesting in learning, you better be to. Great course!!!
Challenging course. If you do not having read the assigned reading this is not the class for you. Lots of pressure to actually learn the content of the course. Refreshing to have some content to learn for a change. Solid course.
Kind of intimidating at first, but ok as you get to know him. Calls on people in class, everyone partiicpates, best to come to class. Genunitely interested in student learning, but sometimes little patience for "sliders" and "slackers."
Outdated teaching but very easy and nice
He does not even teach 392. Didn't you know what course you were in? He calls on people and expects them to know something - I guess that is "outdated." Decent course and instructor. Group project can be a pain if you get "scary clowns" on your team fortunately I didn't. Gives good feedback
Excellent professor! At first I mistook his enthusiasm for rudeness, but as I got to know him I realized he really cares about com & the students. Most importantly, I learned a ton and gained a lot of self-confidence from his calling on students & having them stand up to speak about the subject material. You'd better be prepared or else look dumb!
Semester long group project worth half your grade. By luck and circumstance three of my group members were "scary clowns" Groups do amazing work in that class. Do not assume you can do something the week before and get a C. I gave the course a pepper because my group burned me. :)
Helpful. Presentations are hard, but once you get the swing of things are not too difficult. WILL PUT YOU ON THE SPOT!
I gave him a hot pepper because he will burn you if you do not work really hard.
I have taken three online courses from Kasch. Unlike some online courses I have taken, one must read and understand the assigned reading. No tests, short essays and discussion participation. Grades fairly, but does not allow much "slacking." Interesting, engaging, and a good sense or humor
417 online. Interesting class. Interesting videos. A good deal of reading and writing. Work is pretty constant. No late work. All in all a pretty decent learning experience. Unlike face-to-face classes, everyone has to participate.
417 online. Learned a lot. Many different perspectives. Keep up with the work. Only one lifeline.
Decent class. Semester long group project. Demanding project if you have team members who do not care. Interesting instructional video and SAKAI discussion forums was interesting..
Group project sucked. No one wants to meet or do much work. Kasch presents interesting ideas if one is interested in learning. Tests are not easy
Solid course Keep up. Did I say keep up? Reading summaries, film summaries and forum discussion are the primary assignments. Only one "lifeline" otherwise, not late work is accepted. Discussion counts?? Unlike some online courses the instructor is engaged in the forum on a daily basis. Interesting videos.
Probably the most useful course I have taken. The instructor assumes the role of coach and is really interested in enhance your level of skill. If you slack he will not hesitate to get in your face. Great course.
Course was taught online. Really a pretty good course. Kasch is actively involved in the discussion forum, unlike most online courses i have taken. Do not slack on forum participation, counts as much as written work. Course content is fairly interesting, it actually changed the way i look at media in a number of ways.
Book is terminally boring. As the instructor says "your pillow will need a pillow" Lectures highlight the main idea in the chapter. Chapter tests are not easy. Individual presentations are big part of one's grade - pretty stringent criteria.
I loved getting to interview the people in my intended career. The reading was so so so hard. and the 7 multiple choice chapter exams were so so so hard, and I studied so much.
Kasch is nice, but is not always very clear. I don't think some of the grading on presentations was fair. Even if you do things right, they must be done his way to get a good grade. 3 exams, all multiple choice. His lectures don't cover much material at all so buy the book! There's not much of a point in going to class.
Warning: Do not take him! He is extremely unclear, does not really teach much (You might as well just read the book instead of going to class), and it's pretty much "His way or no way". You could know the right answers and do everything just fine, yet if if it's not "his particular way", he will say it's wrong & you won't do well in the class.
Decent course. Book is boring Kasch is interesting. Not lecture intensive. Individual and team presentations. Need to pay close attention to the criteria for evaluating presentation. Gave good feedback on team projects.
Kasch's classes are valuable learning experiences . If you are trying to get the least for your money from your college education, you might want to think twice about his courses. I learned a lot in this course.
Demanding online course. Requires one to write an essay EVERY week and participate in the discussion forum on a daily basis. If you do not like to read and write I would avoid this course.
Grades according to HIS method which isn't clarified anywhere. Ridiculous posts, poor grammar for a teacher.
No matter what I turned in, I received a 73 on the assignment.
Interesting class. Gives great feedback Do not blow off discussion participation. Instructor works hard to help people succeed.
Chris is not lenient at all and is strict with what he wants, however, he is unclear in his instructions and syllabus. He will then blame you for not asking questions but will not respond to your emails with the response you need. Do not take him. It is a waste of time.
Chris Kasch is perhaps the worst professor I have ever had. Period. His instructions are unclear, he expects you to write essays that are no more than 1000 words, but then gives you poor grades for not going into enough detail (while demanding at least 3 fifty word quotations, reading summary, and applications. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU CAN!!!!!
The material we learn is interesting and makes you apply some critical thinking skills. His assignments are simply time consuming and a paper is due once a week and you have to post to a discussion board 3 days a week. He can be a tough grader but once you figure out how he grades it can be an A course. Overall doable course just have to be on time
Traditional online course. Writing intensive. Excellent readings and videos. Instructor is highly involved in the discussion forum, you better be do. More work than I might of liked but a good learning experience.
