Enjoyable lectures. Shows up 10-15 minutes late for every lecture. Reputation for ogling the ladies.
Nicest guy in the world. As long as you show up to class at least once a week, you will get no lower then a B. He doesn't believe in failing students and I don't think he has ever given a person a grade lower then a C. Great guy to talk to, funny as hel

Really funny guy, he will definitely make your day more amusing. He is a very laid back , No non sense type of person. Of course he can get carried away, but what teacher doesn’t? He still manages to teach you everything you need to know. So far he i
What a ****!!! You'll get a better grade if you flirt with him!
kutras teaches alright, but only when he comes to class. he is at least 15 minutes late every day, and constantly doesn't show up to lecture with no warning. his lectures are boring and it seems as though he talks about whatever is on his mind, not so much about the subject matter of the course.
Had him in the early '80s, sounds like he hasn't changed. He was a great, entertaining instructor.
One of the easiest teachers I have ever had. Went to pols 1 twice and got an A. At UCSD now, enjoy Kutras while you can.

Hes a funny teacher, but seems to talk about him to much, more than the content of the class.
He's a great guy to listen to, especially if you love politics. The problem with his class is that he never concentrates on content, he's too busy ranting about random issues.

I liked how laid back his class was
I thought Kutras was a great teacher...I have taken 4 classes from him, and all of them were great. He really teaches you to think about things in a different light...good class.
If you're cute, blonde and female, you'll do fine in his classes.
He is the coolest teacher and he understand athletes who have it hard with school, work, and sports so he'll help ya out.
By far the coolest teacher. only requirements attend only 10 very strategic days of lecture, take notes, a few pages of book notes and memorize your essays before the tests. He actaully tells you that you can pick what your test is on?!?!?!?!?
talks a lot about a whole lotta nothing, but very easy class. you will get an a if you do well on the bluebooks. kinda boring, but not too bad
No Comments
Easiest a ever. If you show up for the review before tests and bul sh@t on the test you'll do great. Great puplic speaker.
it is a really easy class. but also a waste of your time if you want to learn somethign. I sometimes wonder if he knows what he is talking about (tends to BS alot@!!!)
Consistently late, arrogant and wastes class time on irrelevancies. If you want an easy cakewalk this is your teacher. If you actually want to learn, find another teacher. I found the constant innuendo rather disgusting.
the best teacher I have had so far :)
Dr. Kutras does all his tests in a bluebook essay format. It can be intimidating but can be easier if you know subject but can't remember dates. No homework and attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended. Very humorous and laid back professor.
Seriously, this was the most useless class I have ever taken. I only went to class maybe 7 times and I got an A+. He doesn't take attendance and you don't even need to read the book or attend the lecture. If you have a little knowledge about political science you can breeze through his course without even going.Ridiculous.
He's a very helpful professor and is very understanding whenever issues arise. My favorite professor. :)
Kutras is a very empathetic person who is passionate about the subject and making sure his students pass the class
Good teacher
Chris is just flat out one of shasta's best teachers. He's a local guy, so he can tell you everything you care to know about shasta county. He knows his stuff, whether it be political science or history. There's a reason the record searchlight always comes to him when they need a synopsis of the political mood in redding. Highly recommended!
This class was a total waste of time. Teacher put up powerpoint presentation and left. He doesn't take attendance. you can get a good grade reading the book yourself.
I'm thinking all the positive comments may have been written by the teacher.
Easy going professor. Rather hold conversations about the material than shove it all down your throat to regurgitate later and forget. I recommend this professor. he is very open and very helpful. I'm a shy person and i hardly ever ask help or questions but he makes me feel comfortable. : )
He is great. If you ever need any help with anything he is always there for you. He makes feel comfortable in the class and he makes you want to go to class. I totally recommend him.
I agree, those comments must have been written by the teacher, He's class is a waste, and if your looking for an easy grade, with no help take this class
I hardly went to class and made it with a B. At the time I loved the fact that it was an easy grade but looking back I learned absolutely nothing. Kutras was late to class often and lectures weren't informative. He spent the first half of class every monday talking to the football players about thier last game.
He is an interesting, fun, and witty professor. The lectures are awesome, you will learn all about real politics. Class consists of two exams, you need to attend class and read the book in order to pass these. If you attend class he'll give you major hints as to what is going to be on the exams. Very fair teacher and he goes out of his way to help.
AMAZING TEACHER!!! BEST GOD DAMN TEACHER IN THE WORLD
This man has terrible lectures that do not make sense half of the time. They consist of powerpoint presentations. He shows up 10 minutes late to class and has two tests no homework. A book isn't required as long as you can access the internet.
Only assignments in the whole class are two essays, which you can bring any materials you wish for. No need to go to class more than about once every two weeks. His lectures are so ADD they're hard to make any sense of, and half the time he just tells old college sports stories. Not my favorite teacher, by any means.
At times he can be hard to understand; he gives you the test questions all you do is look up the answers,he allows 1 page of notes for during the tests. He teaches all sides of politics, he doesn't push his beliefs on you like some professors. I learned quite a bit, he is easy going. His only downfall is he is hard to track down, he doesn't stick
Not very strict, easy and helpful when asked
My favorite teacher at Shasta. His lectures are more discussions and he loves to pull current events into the class. He'll even give you his powerpoints if you come in with a thumb drive. Great guy, hilarious.
Great lectures! He really knows his stuff. And he's funny. He also relates history and past presidential administrations and their conflicts and issues to today's current events. Laid-back professor. Always willing to meet with students and is very helpful. Entertaining lectures.
It's funny his father was an excellent teacher, interesting, compelling and clearly loved his subject, who could be tough. This guys pretty useless. Talks about nothing... If you A)show up to class about 30% of the time B)are a slightly attractive female C) play any Shasta College sport you'll get an A....
A kindly fellow who at times, was capable of making the subject of post-civil war history interesting, but who catored to the low-IQ sport-cheerleader students who HAD to pass. Very little or no discipline! Although I received an "A", I would have learned much more with an academically interested professor. Still, Chris is a very likeable person.
Very good lectures, seems like he really knows what he's talking about. Word of warning if you have a short attention span you may fall asleep. Otherwise this is an easy class that's only based on the tests and lectures.
Horrible teacher. Always late, sloppy, and off topic for 70% of class. He should be fired because his class is such a waste of time. Unless you're in sports, then you get an A just for breathing.
Always late, always goes past the end of class. Vaguely on topic. little to no instructions as to what is going to happen in class. Don't take him if you want to learn anything pertaining to the class. The only positive I can note is that his tests are actually on topic and are easy. Study on your own. Go to class because he throws surprise tests.
This class was the world's easiest college class. The grade was based off two tests of multiple choice questions that were known in advance, as well as easy essay questions. However, attendance was almost pointless because his lectures had nothing to do with the tests. Also, he was usually 5-10 minutes late to class.
Amazing Professor! I really enjoyed taking Dr. Kutra's courses. He is very encouraging and positve. He made me love History!
Chris is my favorite teacher at Shasta College. He is very easy going and stresses how much he wants his students to succeed. The enviroment is very relaxed. He is a plethora of information. He is an expert in his fields of History and Political Science. Chris was my mentor while I was a student at Shasta. He is willing to help you anytime!
I don't think this professor's teaching methods are very effective. We'll sit in class while he rambles on and goes off on several tangents completely irrelevant to the class. He'll leave several times throughout the class period, and doesn't give dates of quizzes/exams. I can't understand anything he says.
I absolutely hated this class, even though I got a good grade. He never shows up on time, talks about useless stuff and purposefully tries to trap students with quizes that don't have any other purpose. I did not find him to be helpful or interesting. His main interest is in how he can be perceived as cool by the students, but he ends up failing.
Dr. Kutras is an easy going professor who is willing to work with anyone who will just communicate with him. I recommend reading the purchased lecture notes and text pages before each class to better follow his lectures, which tend to wander. There are quite a few surprise quizzes but you can use a laptop or smartphone for the answers.
Worst teacher ever. You learn nothing. You show up to class and receive maybe a sentence of info everyday. He loses work and tests! If you play sports it's an automatic A. If not he doesn't care about you. I feel bad for anyone who has him in the future.
Chris is the easiest teacher ever! I personally hated the class because I learned nothing! he rambled on mainly about drugs all class. His quizzes are sometimes on things that arnt even in the book, however he does let you use the Internet on your phone or labtop. His gives you the questions for the exams so don't bother showing up for lectures!
The class is useless, you won't learn anything, but if you blonde and cute you get a good grade.
BORING. I showed up everyday and spent the entire time on facebook and stumbleupon. From time to time i would look up and see if anything important was being said. Bring a computer/phone/tablet/internet device and you can use it on "quizzes." Super easy, dont bother with the book, google works great.
Amazing teacher! Easy A if you put in a little effort. I looked forward to coming to his class. He doesn't own you all semester, and you have time to put into your other classes. I tried to take Bush online for 17A and he gave so much work I would have not got A's in my other classes, I dropped him and added Dr. Kutras.
Easy teacher, class a bit dull interesting sometimes. 3 essay assignments for the whole semester. get 2 greenbooks for the in class 2 essays from the bookstore 48 cents each and you'll be fine.
Mr. Kutras is wonderful, very well informed and makes the class very interesting. I do not care for Political Science but Kutras makes the subject matter interesting, he is a fantastic Professor, I highly recommend him.
DR KUTRAS PROVIDES A NEW PARADIGM FOR CURRENT POLITICS. AN ADVOCATE OF MLA PAPERS, I FOUND THE CLASS BOTH INTERESTING AND EDUCATIONAL.
I didn't learn one thing in his class the whole semester. He is very off topic with his lectures and very unorganized. We had 2 tests total for the whole semesters, no other assingments or homework at all. His study guides are vague and mostly everyone is lost. He still gives you a passing grade though.
This is my lean back class. Overall he is a great orator with interesting stories. No HW, a good grade is contingent on doing well on two tests which he could do a better job preparing you. I got a 100% on MultiChoice but was marked down because essay poriton wasn't long enough even though i followed the criteria.
Professor Kutras is a good teacher. Prepare to fall asleep during his lectures! He rambles on and on and goes off topic rather than actually lecturing. If you play sports, it's an automatic A. No homework, no in class assignments! There is just 2 tests! Easy class, easy A!
he's very unclear on the class expectations and leaves you guessing until right before the test on what you need to do, leaving you no time to prepare. he has no classwork which may seem nice but he only has a midterm and final, so if you fail the midterm, you're screwed, you fail the class.
He's very laid-back, but frustrating when it comes to tests. You sort of know what to expect. Part of the two tests in the summer class was writing two essays based on your notes. I literally copied the entire thing from my notes to the green book. I could've turned in a nicely formatted, printed version instead of handwriting for two hours.
I would not take another class from Kutras. Although I received a B in the class, it only has two tests so if you fail one you might as well drop the class. Also if you don't plan on showing up, this is not the class for you. His lectures are long and scattered and lack any kind of structure or organization. Tough to sit through a whole lecture.
I do not recommend him. How can this be allowed for credit? He gives you the anwers to his exams. There are only two, not to worry you can bring a sheet of notes with you! With the answers he gives you. His lectures are long, ridiculous, unnecessary, and completly irrelevant to the topics at hand. You will learn more about baseball than history.
I wish all my classes were this easy. It's really just more of a hang out, and 2 grades all semester (one being the final).
He doesn't explain very well. When asked a question he does not respond. His intentions are unclear. He doesn't really teach. But if you don't show up you can't get the PowerPoint outline which is critical for exams. If you have a lot of time on your hands go for it. But if you can't make it to the library for several hours a week I don't recommend
This is my first class in college. Chris was so helpful in teaching. He really cares about his students.
He is a good guy, I like him as a person, but as a teacher, very difficult. Talks mostly about baseball and his ranch, then when he does lecture, it all blends together so you don't know where his baseball and personal life end and the lecture begins. Goes so fast about so much and is very scattered. It was not easy for me and I love politics.
True, you don't always know where his personal life ends and the lecture begins, but if you listen carefully, you'll get it. I enjoyed his class and got a lot out of it. I like the way Chris did his assignments, although a bit confusing at first! 2 test, 2 essays, that's it! Do the work-easy A. Bring a recorder, it will help!! Lots of writtng
Chris is really funny and really knows his stuff. I love that his class is not a death by powerpoint class. He lays out what you need to do and it is really hard to fail that class. He had lots of funny stories to share that really connected with the lesson. I would totally take him again!! One of the best teachers I have had.
Mr. Chris Kutras is a very good teacher. Hes well knowledgeable and knows every detailed of his lecture. If you are not reading your book, you cant follow through his lecture. So, better prepared and enjoy listen in his class Hes funny! Im surely recommended him. You will not feel regret!
I do not understand why Kutras is given a rating of 3 when it should be at 4. I had him for U.S history. He is a great instructor and cares about students success and gives amazing tips about college. He may go off on some random topic but overall he does a good job. I will have to take him again for my American Government . Just take good notes.
Kutras's classes are the type that you take because you want an easy A not because you actually care to learn the content. He literally says he doesn't fail anyone if you do the 2 exams (multiple choice & essays). Although his classes are not mandatory and most of the time unnecessary he occasionally throws out important information for exams.
Super funny and makes you want to work hard. Its not a difficult class at all, youd have to really try to fail. Also youll learn a lot.
This was by far the easiest class i have ever taken in high school or college. If you want to learn the subject do not take Mr. Kutras. There is only a midterm and a final and he gives you the answers to both of them. you can also bring a page of notes which you can put the answers he gave you on. Very easy A. you would have to try to fail.
Dr. Kutras is an amazing teacher as well as human being. He is really funny and very knowledgeable. I will take all his classes if I am able.
Prof Kutras really does care about his students, and he will work with you. However, his lectures are very unclear. He goes off on tangents and doesnt explain things well. Nobody in the class knew what was going on most of the time. Cool guy, not the best at teaching.
Kutras is very easy to pass. He is all over the place, and sometimes it was very hard to tell what he wanted for exams. Overall good guy but a meh teacher. Very easy A.
There are only 3 exams that you can do at home. They are time consuming but thats all he grades on. During lecture he doesn't teach about history much. Last time he talked about how emus are evil. He's hilarious but if you want to actually learn the subject, I would not recommend. If you just need the credit and an easy A, take him for your classes
Kutras is a nice guy. He is easy going and funny at times. Unfortunately he teaches to the lowest common denominator. His lectures are so off topic its borderline insulting. If you are a serious student who values their time, take another professor. If you are just looking for an easy A and have time to waste then he is your guy.
Take him I promise youll have a great experience! Love this guy
I took CHris's class and loved it. It was very easy and on the exams he goes over hem with you and explains how you can improve or to keep doing what youre doing. overall a good class and instructor.
In my class we only had 3 assignments due. If you show up to class he tells you exactly what to do for each exam, and there is almost no effort needed by the student. Hes a nice guy and really wants each student to pass. EASY A!
You can tell Dr. Kutras is a good teacher. He absolutely knows what he's talking about, and I respect him for knowing the source material unlike some teachers that I've had in the past. I just want you to know this man is insane. He is eccentric and hilarious in the best way possible. Amazing guy and a fun teacher.
Chris was an absolutely amazing professor. I would take him for all of my general ed classes if I could. Conservative, humorous, down to earth, and willing to be friends with his students. The information in his class is straight forward and he makes it very easy to understand. Solid 10/10.
Make sure to attend class, if you do, youll pass. He only grades on a few large exams, and he allows you to have some notes with you during the exam. Its all lectures, and sometimes it can be confusing. He goes off on tangents a lot, but theyre entertaining. Overall, he was a funny teacher and it was an easy class.
I took Kutras's Pols 2 class, and dropped after three classes. Three periods in, we were STILL going over the syllabus. He rambled about random stories and topics constantly, and often in ways that made me feel deeply uncomfortable. When I transferred into another Pols class, I had a much better experience; that teacher was Lee and is fantastic.
His lectures were him rambling about baseball and how no one should smoke pot. 3 class periods the ENTIRE time were dedicated to the actual course. But if you miss the important lectures, you wont pass. It was only 3 assignments, the tests. It was a relatively easy class but the biggest excuse for a college course, and a huge waste of time.
Kutras is among the best instructors at Shasta. He is well educated and puts up a great POLS2 transfer level course. Be prepared for timed, written exams and lots of lecture notes to get you ready for transfer. He was approachable, responsive and cares about his students. You gotta' work if you want an A in his classes.
This was my second class from Kutras. He's easily one of my favorite teachers at the college. While he occasionally goes off-topic, he always relates it back to the content of the lecture. I have actually been able to remember far more from his class than many of my others. His teaching style is unique, but he's entertaining and it works! A+
17b was my first class with Dr. Kutras, and he's one of my favorite instructors. I found his lectures to be very entertaining. While they seemed to be irrelevant at times, he was always able to tie it into the content. He definitely knows his stuff, and I was pleased to see that he was always available to converse and answer questions after class.
I would not recommend this class. The grading took 5 weeks and no feedback was given. The lectures are him sitting in his bed from a year ago when classes switched to online because of Covid-19. There is no structure for his grading, and the syllabus doesn't show you assignments so he creates them at random. Look for a different teacher!
Kutras is undoubtedly a nice man and genuinely seems to care for students, but his ability to teach is abhorrent. An overwhelming majority of the course was spent listening to his rants on unrelated personal views and favorite hobbies. -Textbook says required; he never used it. -Attendance is optional; the online material is better than his rants
Professor Kutras is a rarity. He has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and strives to share his invaluable experience with his students. His teaching is centered around his drive to instill good educational values within his students, and help them grasp the important lessons history offers. He is always ready to help, and a truly kind soul.
This goes back to 1995 during the OJ trial. It was all he talked about for weeks. Only the last three classes were devoted to actual material. He got easily distracted with non relevant current events. Tests were essay form, he would write three sentences in the board and he expected two to three pages on each topic.
Prof Kutras cares about his students, but his lectures can be unclear. Though he's knowledgeable, his teaching style can be hit-or-miss. I found unstuckstudy helpful for studying alongside the textbook.
I had him for several classes. His classes are very lecture heavy, and those don't always make perfect sense, but he is still one of my favorite professors ever. You won't find another guy like him. He truly cares about his students, especially those who actually show up and participate.
Kutras spent most of his time sharing about unrelated topics, he is easily distractible, leaving little time for course related material. He once spent half of class talking about his days in baseball when we were learning American political hist. I won't dive into detail, but getting a great grade in his class is ridiculously easy.
