Very hard to understand what he is saying because of his "fobbish" accent. did not learn anything from him. i suggest you stear away from him if you want to learn and get a good grade.

Pretty hard. His tests have a lot of surprises. If I were you I would go with some other teacher. I recomend M. Gough. Very clear, and no surprises on the tests.

Absolutely not recommended for beginners of Acct. If not that I have studied acct before, i wouldn't have understood a thing. He tried to make the class interesting by telling stories but they ended up distracting you and you wouldn't want 2 listen. HARD!

This is by far the worst teacher there is at De Anza College. Kwak can not teach and the worst part of it is that he believes that he is one of the greatest teachers. My GPA is a 3.62 and the only "C" i received was in his class.

I took Kwak for the first three classes. It was a while ago, but I remember being thoroughly confused/overwhelmed by his requirements. I dropped him and took Tipton. It was like a fog was lifted. If you want an A, go with Tipton. Kwak=headache.

He initially comes off as a nice person with funny jokes and bad grammar. But, his class is quite confusing, you never know when to submit your homework. I am taking this class right now and I don't recommend it unless you're a CPA.

Chris is an excellent teacher, he knows accounting very well and makes it interesting for 1st timers. This guy is a total character. Material is difficult, need to study and do HW. What a piece of CRAP! His lectur is not worth a penny. Just cant believe how awful he is... ONCE IN A WHILE he explains something related to the subject, but he teachs us WRONG and CONFUSE us. I seriously doubt his competence to be a teacher. He has to be laid off right away. Dont know how I can emphasize more.

If you're serious about having an accounting career, take Chris Kwak's courses. He really knows what he's teaching, and cares about his students alot. Also, it seems hard, but if you come to his classes everyday, do the homework, do extra credit assignments, I don't see why you can't get an A.

Chris Kwak is an extraordinary teacher. His passion for accounting is clearly evident. I hated the subject before I started, and loved it after Acct.1A.Come to class,do his handouts,and ask Q's.He will meet you half way.It is sad to see all of the negative comments about him(THEY ARE ALL ****).Students don't do well, and lie on the internet!!

Very weak instructor. The class becomes hard because his teaching doesn't produce understanding for the students and he is just unclear for the most part (english could be better). This class = low grade and a weak foundation in acct for the future. There are wonderful accounting instructors at De Anza, this is not one of them.

Kwak is one of very few teachers who teach because they are interested in having their students really learn what they need to know. He is not bound by useless situations that will rarely occur in our lives. Instead, he teaches how to cope with unexpected events in our business careers. One's that are NOT in the books we read.

His English is not exactly clear, and he doesn't really explain things well. He showed up late to class almost every day, and it's only a 50 minute session. Every time he confuses everyone in class, he blames the students and says "Gee, did every party and drink too much over the weekend?" I thought he was a bit oblivious. Wouldn't recommend him.

He goes out of his way to meet with students and arrange a classroom session.At De Anza they didn't want to give him classroom for the session but he made it possible for us to have a 3 session meeting. His online discussions are excellent too.. very challenging which I like!

He is an excellent teacher. The problem with most of the students who have graded him have not put in the amount of work required for the class. Most of the students are expecting the prof to come in do the lecture and that is not the way this prof works.If you read your assignment and come prepared and talk with the prof he is helpful.

Evertime you ask him a question he won't really answer it. All those EC at most he only graded half. He makes us register to this external online webpage for EC with our emails but he NEVER confirm your name. I calculated based on the greensheet and my grade should be 96% even if I fail the finals. He mixed up my grade and gave me a B. That's Bull

I took 4 classes from him. He is very motivated, passionate about teaching. His use of CPA exam questions are very hard, but gave me the confidence to sit for CPA exam and pass for the sections I took his classes on. Once you get used to him, his classes are great. You learn a lot more than just whats in the chapters.

I feel I am very fortunate to have him as my professors with my intermediate accounting. Everyone knows Intermediate Accounting is very hard, I wasn't majoy in Accounting,but Chris helped me to understand the basic accounting concept better through his unique teaching. He gave us his own understanding/explanation about the subjects, not just from the book. His lectures have deep. He has been sick from a car accident, but still teaching us. I really appreciate that. Some times, the lectures were too fast though. Parts of the problems were because we only have 1 quarter for a 2 quarter subject for Acct 51B.

I thought Kwak was pretty good. His lectures were mostly more problems like the ones assigned as homework. Both were consistent with problems on his exams. Lots of extra problems (and solutions) were available on his class website. I'm taking him again for auditing this quarter.

Auditing is the last accounting class of this major which mean it's the hardest subject class. Auditing is a conceptional class that really hard to master the concepts unless you have auditing experience. Pro. Kwak helps us to build up the concepts and the whole picture of auditing process. You will get a lots by attending his lecture class.

If you can learn by just listening to lectures and reading the book, then he is fine. However, if you want to ask questions, he will not understand or answer your question, and say that you are not prepared for the exam. His lectures are also very slow. Apparently he thinks people are unintelligent and must learn slowly.

Absolutely wonderful class. Very interactive teacher I loved going to class. I didnt get an A because i had a low HW average but I was able to get As on the Tests. I took Auditing and Intermediate Accounting Part 1 with him. I thought I'd get a B+ but ended up getting an A. I think he curves the grade. I am now taking 51B. Please don't take 51B first! The second part will be harder to understand without reading the first half of the book. Even if you're waitlisted in 51A, everyone gets in.

This is an upper level class, more difficult than ACCT 1A, 1B, and 1C. Professor Kwak really focused on the framework of this subject. Instead of using textbook questions, he created his own with easier numbers which helps to understand the ideas. His exams are very easy, as long as you listen to his lecture, you'll pass for sure!

He is a very good professor, and I really enjoyed his class. His class is very easy. I took ACCT 1A with him also. He has worked for PWC and HP for many years. He often tells us his stories when working there. He always related the actual business world to accounting which is very interesting.

Took Acct1b online. Seemed like a lot of work at first but the ppt & his lecture notes are very helpful. He will extend some dues dates occasionally when the chapter is more intense. I emailed him several times about a variety of questions & issues I was having with homework. Kwak was responsive, very helpful & most important he was encouraging.

Excellent professor with both industry experience and teaching ability to frame the subject areas to provide a deeper understanding of material. I had Acctg 51A in Fall '11. First quarter using Connect Plus/Blackboard homework and learning system. Homework is online with some quizes taken in class. An entertaining lecturer, Mr. Kwak gives many examples from real life experience to supplement the book. Read book, be prepared, participate in class, and get an A. 1 pg notes allowed for exams.

Professor Kwak has a great sense of humor. He knows accounting really well and if you have questions, don't be afraid to ask. He'll take the time to explain concepts to you. During lectures however, he isn't always very clear and sometimes goes off topic. Homework is a big chunk of your grade, and will really boost your grade, so remember to do it.

Well, if you ask a question he will get mad because you don't understand. He knows his stuff, and gets mad if you don't. He will be rude if you don't answer a question right. A teacher is there to help you understand, not get mad at you if you don't.

Kwak is not horrible like comments state. Most likely those people where ones who showed up and did nothing and expect to get a good grade. If you go, do the reading and participate in class I don't see how you can fail. Dont take him if your lazy because he will call you out.

He's really textbook heavy and doesn't explain really well. Discourages students. Don't get sick. He doesn't care even if you have a legal note. In the beginning of the quarter he says that there would be only 2 pop quiz... he already gave us the 2 and on the week i got sick there were 3 more and he didn't let me take it. smh.

Kwak is awesome. He's a funny guy who's always busting jokes. He's got a ton of real world experience that he translates into the class which is something that I believe is really helpful. Not an easy A though, you have to constantly study and study but then again, it's accounting. Not an easy concept to grab right off the bat. It takes time.

Chris Kwak is an extraordinarily committed professor who goes the extra mile to facilitate student learning & success. His eagerness to impart knowledge comes across in his frequent excitement in class over an otherwise dry topic. If you loose where he is going in a lecture, he does repeat the main points to ensure that nobody is left behind.

Both classes require a decent amount of dedication and work, but Kwak was lenient on due dates, extensions, and grading in general. Quizzes were graded by peers, or ourselves, on the honor system. Tests were difficult, but were never to the point of blindsiding students with material outside of the book/lectures. It's hard to fail either class.

First time taking an online course but he was extremely helpful and responded to all my email questions in a short period of time. You will need to read the book for the HW and Exams but he gives you a lot of chances to do well. Loved the class discussion online.

Professor Kwak is one of the rare teachers that sincerely cares about his students. I took his auditing class and found it to be very practical. It is an intense course so be prepared to learn a great deal! I completed a business program at UC Berkeley before and found Professor Kwak be more engaging and helpful than my previous professors

I'm VERY thankful that he had the extra credit as an option towards the end of the quarter. He speaks in fairly accented English, but I had no problem following his lectures. The material is difficult and he wants you to think, but he is very helpful and has a great sense of humor. Best of all, he used to be an auditor, so you have an instructor who has real experience in audit both at a CPA firm and within a company.

Mr Kwak is kind of boring but adorable. He likes jokes but they are not funny. He might be a little tough in midterm and final. But quizes and tests are pretty easy and you can even talk to classmates before turning them in. HW is not bad. Will continue to take his class.

Get ready to teach yourself if you are taking him. When you speak up because no one else did, and if you get the answer wrong, he makes you feel like crap. Instead of helping you to get the right answer, he talks down on you and makes fun of you for not knowing the answer. Very discouraging and not helpful. Won't take him again.

I will recommend Mr Kwak if you really want to learn something in the class. It is not a super easy class, you have to read the book and do the hw and stuff if you want to get an A. But quiz and tests are easy because he allows students to discuss in quiz and always prepare you for tests. Don't be late for class. Will take again if possible.

Prof Kwak may just be the best professor at De Anza College. It's very rare for professors to take the time to learn everyone's name but Prof Kwak does just that. Chris Kwak is probably the best teacher I have had in a long time! There aren't very many teachers like him anymore. He is the reason why I love coming to school and learning. He is hilarious with his cheesy jokes. I'm taking him again for 1B and I hope he's also teaching 1C. Pay attention in class, be involved and you'll pass.

Chris is probably the worst teacher I've had at De anza. No one ever pays attention during his lectures, since they're all posted on his canvas. He goes off on many tangents and tends to spend way too much time on one problem. If you come late or give a wrong answe during lecture, he will call you out(in a disrespectful manner).

Mr Kwak is the most caring and great professor. to explain any concept, he gives real life examples which makes it superrrr easy to understand even the tough concepts. Kwak is very condescending with his students. Your best bet for passing this class is using all of the Cengage study tools and videos. If you can do well by self-studying, you should be fine. There's only one midterm and a final, as well as weekly discussion posts on Canvas.

This is my second class with this professor. He is very easy to access , and he always make sure that you understand the topic , so many helpful lectures and notes on canvas, Cengage has extra work check. He remembers all of students name. Don't enroll in a class with him if it's just a prerequisite to you, or if you're expecting an easy A. His teaching style reflects his passion for the subject, so of course he's going to have high expectations for his students. He's not going to hold your hand nor change your diapers, but he will inspire you if you're willing to learn.

I had Professor Kwak for 1A, 1B and 1C. He is very funny and ties stories and funny examples into the material in such a contagious way that I still remember material from 1A after 2 quarters. After taking 1A with Kwak, I needed to take 1B with him. His lectures break down the material in a very comprehensive way and you can tell he knows it well by how deconstructed he makes the complicated chapters. 1B is a more complex continuation of 1A so i suggest you take a professor who is able to articulate the material clearly. Plus hes funny.

Kwak is a very well rounded teacher. Before going into the material, he examines the entire process of Managerial accounting so it makes sense when actually getting into the chapters. Honestly, the worst teacher I've ever had. He's so bad I don't even consider him a professor. He doesn't teach from the book and he uses his own personal methods. The homework uses the books methods while his quizzes and tests are used from his own methods which are way more confusing than the books methods. He is also disrespectful to students.

You can get an A if you do your work every week. With that, there's roughly 2 chapters a week that include HW, quiz & discussion board, so I felt it was workload heavy, but there's a clear structure for passing & you learn a lot. Plenty of online resources, lectures/feedback was a bit overwhelming, hard to keep up. Teacher is passionate!

He is so passionate for his class and he took lots of his time to prepare many media resources for each chapter, which are posted in Canvas, and you can't find these resources in your textbook. Someone said his class is too heavy, but I think if you really want to learn something, you really need to spend more time on it. I recommend his class.

Kwak is the rudest professor I have ever met. He'll yell "Hello!" to the class when nobody answers his questions. He's extremely rude when answering emails, his lectures are impossible to follow, and his instructions are so unclear. The coursework itself isn't difficult, you can look it up online, but you're better off taking literally anyone else.

Read the textbook before lecture to minimize confusion. He provides a study guide w/o answers for his midterm and final, which is helpful enough. Many online resources. My issue is with his teaching style - inconsistent pace, unbalanced emphasis, and shortage of in-class problems. He's a bit condescending and blunt, so class was mildly unenjoyable.

I had Professor Kwak for 1B/1C. Tons of well-made resources available for you to learn the content and EC available. All work through Cengage, 1 video, 2 HW's, a discussion and a 15-20Q MC quiz every week. Easy final comprehensive problem. Midterm + Final questions are all repeats from the weekly quizzes with numbers changed, gives you ample time.

Professor Kwak can be a little strict but he cares about his students and wants to help them succeed. He is very understanding and supportive when students approach him for help and show effort. Terrible. Can barely form a legible sentence, unable to understand what he's asking of his students. His textbook ordering system might as well be hidden inside of a Rubik's cube because good luck figuring out how to purchase the right textbook and get enrolled in the online class. WAY too many emails, notifications, announcements, etc. Horrible

Professors enthusiasm and real-world examples made the course simple and entertaining. He is very inspirational, he wants us to understand the concepts instead of just memorizing them.
