He dissects your ignorance as cleanly as he dissects lab rats! WOW!!!
I wrote "luv U" on my eyelids and he pretended not to notice - what dedication!
Catch this rising star before Yale snaps him up. Funny-smart, cute, perky.
adds humour and great real life examples to lectures
Smart, funny, helpful, interesting... Great prof...
Awesome prof. Very friendly, knows what he's talking about. ^^
Whole class is on knees begging for more pearls of wisdom!
If only he was not married, he is hot and smart, my god the full package
Awesome, & he sounds like Tom Hanks!
Excellent lecturer. Enthusiastic, approachable, and humorous.
smart'N'perky! Cheeky fellow! Ladies bring Hankies - he's taken, *sob*
Awesome prof. Makes lectures fun and interesting!
Great Prof, very entertaining, funny and smart
Un-flippin'-real. I'm so glad I got into this class.
sexy!!!! yip yip yip
sure he's funny but he doesn't teach you anything and makes it hard
Interesting lectures, BUT not learning anything. paying for laughs not education
This course is a nightmare. I used to love children...
This course IS a nightmare
he rocks! i love this class...definitly take this if you like non essay classes. interesting, easy in and out of class and fun
Great teacher. Exam is a little hard, but it's worth getting into his class!
Very interesting lectures, I recommend taking his classes.
He is one of the most interesting and entertaining lecturers I've had! Hard exams but worth it!
Great teacher. Really knows his stuff
Lalonde is a rad guy, but I think his teaching star might shine brighter in a smaller class.
Wow. He makes my heart go pitter-pat. Of course his exams are hard, IF YOU DON'T READ THE FLIPPIN' BOOK; pretty easy if you read it inside and out. His lecture notes are quite cryptic, so GO TO CLASS - hence exams become easier!!! highly entertaining,
Funny guy. Smart. Tests are a pain. Pretty good overall though.
funniest uvic prof.but so much material.so intelligent.hardest 3rd year final i've written so far. he rarely has office hours.for 100 he might have been easy but 335 is no mickey mouse.take it as a warning, you'll love the lectures but final is a ****
Great guy, absolutley halarious, totally knows his stuff and really cares about the subject, think he'd do better in a smaller class...
I'm in fourth year and took this as an elective, one of my top three classes ever at university. he has such good notes on web you don't need to take any in class. just sit back and be fascinated by this brilliant man.
Awesome prof. He has a sense of humour that is actually funny and intellectual. I have a lot of respect for a prof who keeps his students interested, makes the lectures fun and easy to follow, and puts his notes on the web! Yes!
It has all been said... Funny and HOT!!
hard tests
Sounds just like TOM HANKS! Seriously...
He was charming at first in class. Then the tests were super difficult and he became a know it all. Then I saw him in the mall and he didn't seem so charming- he's very short too.
he really does sound like tom hanks. he says that people tell him this all the time. its worth taking the class for the entertainment value. its a bonus that he's a good prof
Best psyc teacher i've ever had
He is a wonderful man - very nice, caring and funny! His tests are EXTREMELY HARD!!!! Average was a C. Work hard from the start.
Very hard tests for some people (and it's not just because they don't read the text- there were more F's than A's on the last exam. My average in his class is a B- but I have an A average GPA. Still...the best lectures that I have ever had. I would easily sit in for nothing just to listen to his wonderful stories (and he's cute). Really worth it.
great teacher, very entertaining class! you learn sooo much and it is a class you will look forward to attending. However, his tests are really hard. He does give study questions that help for written answers but his multiple choices are so hard. VERY worth it though.
Overall very interesting to listen to. However tests were very difficult partly due to the fact that while lectures are interesting, they are frequently off topic and seem to resemble personal, humorous anecdotes. Disparity between what is discussed in class and the supposed focus of the class. Essay q's are a slow trip through hades
Fantastic teacher. He loves this subject and it shows. Lectures are very interesting. He uses great examples to help make sense of concepts. I learned so much from this man - I wish he taught more subjects. Tests are difficult, so read the textbook. Seems like a genuinely nice guy.
An entertaining/funny lecturer with informative multimedia lectures. Sometimes overuses cryptic quotations to explain concepts - not always clear. Clearly knows what he's talking about, very experienced, but tough. Exams are extremely difficult (combination of essays, short answer, MC) and graded strictly. Keep up on the work and STUDY!
I really enjoyed this class although I found it to be pretty tough. Prof Lalonde is a really good teacher to genuinely seems interested in the course material. Just make sure you study a lot and prepare well for his tests! Eeep!
Prof Lalonde is a good guy and obviously knows his stuff. Tests are hard because of volume to remember but not impossible. Could be a little more clear in lectures but overall a good prof.
Really a very nice guy and clearly knows what he's talking about. Exams were the worst part of the course. They were fair but still quite challenging. The practice written questions he provides are helpful. And go to class! His online notes can be kind of cryptic at times.
he is a knowledgeable professor, also very strict with assignments and grading. Hi course material is well though out, but he seems to care more about his own research than he does about being a supportive teacher. Although I enjoyed the course, he came off as quite arrogant. I don't like him very much.
A good professor is exciting to listen to because they are passionate about their subject, and are (somewhat) good at teaching. Chris LaLonde is really bad at teaching. Also, it is difficult to tell whether Chris LaLonde feels one bit passionate about his profession. He runs through material extremely fast, and his notes are confusing.
He just reads his notes off of his slides word for word, and tends to zip through material which makes it easy to get lost. Found myself having to teach myself the material from textbook. Really nice guy whos passionate about what he does, just not a great prof. 3 non cumulative tests (30% each) and 3 thought papers (10% total).
Lectures are boring since all he does is reads off his notes. Goes really fast, but he's aware of that so just speak up about going slower. Doesn't use coursespaces and takes forever to posts marks.
Great prof. Extremely lecture heavy; especially consider topics he just brushes over. Very interesting topics and he gives very helpful examples. Lots of reading on his lecture slides though. Always attend the review session which is usually the last day before an exam because he does a full overview on what to expect for the exam.
The course material was interesting but the lectures themselves were very boring. He just read notes off of slides and didn't add anything to them. He was clear on what to study for as well.
He isn't very clear in the lectures. half of the test is from the lectures. He goes off topic a lot which can be funny but not good for note taking. He grades the written part of his tests very hard. The lectures cover a lot of stuff you have to go online and do your own research quite a bit because his notes aren't clear.
Goes through material TOO fast, unavailable for help. Tests had to be revamped for too many students did below average. His expectations were too high and his teaching style is too low. Did not enjoy his class AT ALL.
Very boring, and reads right off of the notes. He did not bother in the slightest to add more details to the lecture notes. His exams are very reliant on the textbook, and many questions are super specific to the text, and some questions were not even from the text at all (pure personal knowledge-based). Could not recommended him any less.
Very interesting lectures! Definitely would recommend taking a class with Lalonde. If you read the textbook and pay attention in lecture you will get a good grade.
Great prof with super entertaining lectures. As long as you show up and do all of the readings, you will pass the course.
Almost never went to class since he reads off his slides. Would recommend going to the class before an exam however since he talks in depth about what to expect on the exam. Course is non cumulative and info is actually interesting. Tests are 30%, 35%, 35% and 5% bonus questions to do which are BEYOND easy. Boring class but if u read, its easy
He talks very quickly and very quietly. It's mostly just reading off the site that he created (not slides). I find lifespan development interesting and he didn't increase of decrease that interest. Provides a few opportunities for bonus marks.
Lalonde is very neutral for me, I wasnt blown out of the water by him but I wasnt uninterested in his lectures either. The textbook was needed for small bits but I rarely did any of the readings. His notes are really detailed he reads directly off of them so you dont need to take notes. Although he reads REALLY fast. Hes a speed racer.
Reads directly off of his slides in class and speaks very quietly-lectures are dull. Hands tests back fairly fast. Gives 6 written questions to prepare for before the test then 3 on the test which is nice. Few opportunity for bonus marks. Gives specific textbook pages although they are somewhat unrelated to his notes. Notes are kind of confusing.
Lalonde is a really good professor. His exams are extremely fair - if you don't do well it's because you didn't study. The exams test on the information directly from his notes - no surprises - just study the material well. He uses relevant examples to make concepts clear so it is a good idea to attend lectures but not a big deal if you miss a few.
Lalonde seems really interested in his researvh areas, and is very engaging when he speaks to these. Unfortunately, most of the time this is not the case; he seemed as bored reading off of a website as the students did. Study hard for exams; much different from lectures.
He had some interesting political views. He was passionate about what he taught which was good. He is kind of a stubborn guy regarding how he teaches. I found I just could not keep up with what he was saying in the lecture so I mostly studied the book but I still earned from his lectures.
I am an upper level student and I found the exam unnecessarily hard. He went over the lecture notes but failed to mention that there would be many questions that weren't in the lecture. Also, he had too many answers to multiple choice that were ALL TRUE, and you had to pick the "most" true. His lectures aren't worth attending if you read the book.
What I like about Lalonde Challenging but fair Cares about his students and does respectfully get back to them most of the time We had a good rapport I cared so he cared Care about your education and you'll do fine You do need to read the textbook make sure to summarize and study key terms
Dr. Lalonde is super nice and comical. You can really learn a lot from his experience but his classes can be extremely dull. It was rough to try and pull your grade up when the only thing you are graded on is the exams which are 35% every time. You don't need to go to class at all and will still pass. READ THE TEXTBOOK and lectures for exams.
At first, I did not like the class. However, Dr Lalonde's sense of humor and his eclectic methods of teaching have won me over by the end. I found his first midterm quite difficult but, after realizing what his exact expectations were, the other two exams were much easier. Read the textbook carefully, watch the videos, attend lectures and listen.
A really nice guy, but the course is weird. You're only graded by 2 midterms and a final, and half of the stuff he includes in his lectures are irrelevant or anecdotal. He spends too much time telling his own life stories and showing useless videos instead of focusing on explaining core concepts of the course.
Love this man. This class was incredibly easy and so interesting. Three exams and a 5% bonus participation mark. Getting an A+ is easy! I didnt read the textbook once, rather just looked up quizlets of other peoples cue cards from the text! Lalonde tells dark jokes and is so monotone but actually hilarious if you give him a chance!
His lectures were organized, he was easy to follow and clear. Broke up the lectures with videos. Funny guy too. Lecture slides are in-depth, so if you mainly focus on knowing and understanding lecture slides and go over textbook readings you will do well! Lectures a little boring to follow along at times. His tests are very reasonable.
You are graded ONLY on tests, but it isn't clear what he will be testing (if it is mostly on the lectures or the textbook readings). The lectures are long and jam-packed with information, and he goes fast in lectures. He shows lots of videos to show clear examples and cracks jokes often, but I would rather him be more clear of his testing methods.
Fantastic lecturer as someone who is a visual learner, his use of videos for many topics made me remember the material. He has funny stories in class to tie things together and answers questions as well as he can after class. He does truly care but you gotta show up to class. FYI the first exam is the hardest but it gets better, promise!
Dr. Lalonde is a super caring and insightful professor. His lectures can be a little dry and boring but his tests are extremely fair. If you read the textbook and study the lecture notes you will do well. Moreover, he tries to guide his students towards the material that he will test. Overall, if you try and will do well in his class.
This is by far my favourite prof. His lectures are fun to attend (even though I hate going to lectures) and he is really straightforward with the type of stuff that will be on the exam. All in all, a great class and a great guy.
I really enjoyed Lalondes class and he makes it really fun to attend because he finds interesting videos or clips that help you understand the content better. This class was ALL tests and maybe a few other assignments, but the tests were also fair and had no surprises. He told you exactly what would be on the exam beforehand too
Chris may be my favourite prof. I looked forward to every lecture because of the stories he would tell. He is absolutely hilarious, but in the way where he doesn't even know he's that funny. Study the lecture slides and read the textbook and you'll be set. The 3 exams are worth 30% each and take up most of your mark but there is 10% in bonus too
I loved having Prof. Lalonde this semester. He used pre-recorded lectures, but kept them short and casual. Along with a little textbook reading, this class is not hard at all. He's also pretty funny and just an all around great dude.
Professor Lalonde always injected humour into his lectures, which made them much more interesting to listen to. The majority of your grade comes from 3 exams, but if you study all of the material well, you'll do fine.
I just finished 243 with Lalonde and he was for sure one of my favourite professors this term. The class was very straightforward so I never needed to email him, but I can guarantee he is always willing to help. His lectures always made me smile or laugh and he does a good job of making you feel like his equal! I would definitely recommend him.
Although I think he's a wonderful and sweet man, he speaks in a monotone voice and a lot of his lectures were spent reading off of word-heavy slides. The content was a little overwhelming too. But he always gave 2 fun bonus questions on tests and did what he could to make the course more enjoyable
Dr. Lalonde is great! Really funny lectures and all online exams this year
Lalonde is an amazing professor and has made lifespan development seem fascinating. I enjoyed his class so much, that it has pushed me to go into this stream. His tests were fair, the most important thing is reading the textbook. He keeps lectures light and interesting with small videos in between. I highly recommend!
he was super nice, the exams were quite detail oriented and specific so make sure to read the textbook and pay attention in class !
With two week of online school in 2022, Chris is already posting his old covid online lectrures instead of lecturing in person. Why can't he do live lectures. Because it is his job. Why am I paying for these two weeks when there is no prof.. yet he still gets paid to have a two week vacation. Good Job UVIC and Chris!
Chris is a super awesome prof. He doesn't assign much homework - the stuff he does assign is easy - and his lectures are funny and engaging. Tests are specific but easy enough if you study, and mine were all online. The few off chances I had questions or needed help, Chris was quick to respond to my emails and very helpful.
He’s great! I’m always excited to go to class, it’s actually interesting. He always has fun videos to show us and to engage us in the learning. I will say though I have a hard time gathering good notes. But fairly enough we don’t have much homework and the tests are not that bad. Overall I have so far enjoyed the class thoroughly.
Good, passionate lecturer. Not online savvy at all. Only prof I had who didn't record his lectures and is not helpful about missing midterms due to illness. Started the semester saying he has a "knack for making evil tests" but then proceeds to not make his tests easier. Slides are word-heavy and hard to follow and he talks fast.
He is genuinely so awesome, engaging, caring and hilarious. His lectures a pretty note heavy but it's not a crazy difficult course. Take a course with him if you can. He is amazing.
its a yes from me. i absolutely love this man and would recommend taking his class to anyone in psyc / if you're interested in lifespan and development. give the textbook a JUICY read and you will do well in the class. chris is a sweet man, and you'll grow to love him over the semester. his last lecture made me ball my eyes out.
Not my favourite professor. He is not bad and I won't avoid him in the future, but I didn't find that this course lived up to my expectations. It is clear that there are certain sections that he cares about more than others. Overall, make sure you really study the textbook and review any terms in the lecture slides and you should be good. Nice man.
Take this class. Do not take it with anyone else. Lalonde only teaches a few classes and you DO NOT want to miss this opportunity and especially the class where you get to play jeopardy- it's a fun class, although sometimes homeboy can be a speed-demon when talking so it's best to download the powerpoint prior to class.
