First off, let me start by saying that this was his first semester ever teaching. He switched his career up but is very knowledgeable in the subject. With that being said he structured the class 20% homework, 40% midterm and 40% final. I got a 48 on the final and thought I was doomed, but I went to class, met with him and he helped me pass.
Honestly, was scared to take this professor because he is new to the school, however, he is a great teacher. His lectures involve the class (it isn't him droning on for 50 minutes). I also like how he goes out of his way with test review.
Great teacher!
Take Lynch for Finc311! Explains concepts very clearly, engages the class in his lectures, and reviews concepts multiple times to really reinforce them. Provides you with all the tools necessary to do great on the exams if you choose to use them. Not only is he an awesome professor, he's a great guy too! And I don't even like finance...
If every professor made class as interesting as lynch I would have all A's. He makes material fun and interesting and information sticks. Test are not bad at all. I've got A's on both midterms. Homework is easy with unlimited attempts. You can very easily get an A so long as you attend class.
Lynch really knows what he's talking about and is very helpful if you see him in office hours. The tests aren't bad, but you need to really study and make sure you understand all concepts. In class you go through powerpoints kind of quickly and attendance is only worth 1%. If you are struggling, see him for help and you will be fine.
Chris Lynch is an amazing professor I wish every prof was exactly like him! Sets you up with everything you need to succeed, you just have to study the way he tells you too and you can get an A on the test. Really caring in office hours and will help you with anything you need. Great guy, would definitely take him again if I could.
Lectures are helpful to go to and he gives you 1 extra point for attending 75% of the classes. Connect homework can boost your grade. 2 exams and a final (not cumulative). Exams are a lot easier when you go to class. Overall not a bad class but not super easy, definitely need to put in the time to study
Really great professor, goes out of his way to do review session and teaches very well. Around 2 online assignments per week that aren't too bad but are worth 20% of grade, 3 noncumulative exams (one's a final).
Professor Lynch is very engaging and enthusiastic. Lectures are clear and interactive. He works out problems to show steps and relationships between definitions and calculations. Homework is available to earn 100% through multiple attempts, serving as a nice grade boost if you're willing to work at it. The material is challenging but doable.
Excellent professor. Had him in an honors section. Really a great teacher and does a great job at keeping the class engaged. Has extra review sessions outside of class time before every exam. Exams about 80% of the non-honors grade and 70% of the honors. If you do all the homework and practice problems + review the sample problem slides, easy A.
By far, the best professor I've ever had. You can tell that he really loves both teaching and finance. Makes a huge class of 200 feel like a class of 15 by walking around and engaging students, even the ones in the back of the room. Love this guy!
Treasure! That is what you are! You're my golden star! Can you make my wish come true? And let me treasure you! This man gives plenty of opportunities and resources to succeed in his class, cares about the students and is super interesting. Made me want to pursue Finance as a career. Also has a golden voice... YEEEAAAAAHHH!!!
Lynch is an excellent professor. Finance isn't the most interesting to me and he made that class one of the best classes during the semester. He asks students questions and is really good at getting a discussion going. I recommend you take his class.
Chris Lynch is an absolute unit of a professor. One could say he may even be overqualified to teach a basic Finance class based off his prior work experience; however with that being said, he has taught me more about Finance I ever thought possible, sparked my interest within the subject, all while never coming off as condescending. A++
Best Prof I have had so far at UD. Prof Lynch is an amazing guy, and a really great lecturer. The material is pretty tough, but he definitely teaches it well. Would recommend to everyone who needs to take FINC311, and I plan to take him again for FINC412
I have never had a more enthusiastic professor than Prof. Lynch. He brings energy to class every day and clearly explains how the class is difficult and how you need to do well on the exams to pass the class. Gives TONS of study material and all you need to succeed in the class. And his suits, my goodness!
So Lynch was probably my favorite Professor. My one complaint is that as the year goes on the exams are weighted more heavily. I got a 100 on exam 1 and scored lower on exams 2 and 3 (the final is exam 3 - not comprehensive) and wound up w a B+. Hes very fair and if youre struggling he will help you. Definitely recommend him.
Professor Lynch is as experienced as you can get in Finance and it shows. He knows everything one can possibly know about this topic and communicates it very clearly. Grade is 90% combined from 3 tests and 10% online homework. You still have to put a decent amount of work inxtbook/studying with the the but the class is extremely fair overall.
man is straight up electricity.
Lynch really cares about his students and is willing to work with you to change your grade if necessary. His lectures are really good and he is a very enthusiastic professor. 90% of your grade comes from the three exams, but the material isn't that bad, he explains it well
If you are not a finance or accounting major, DO NOT TAKE FINC311 WITH HIM!! Exams are 90% of your grade and homework only counts for about 2%. The exams are impossible to finish on time and have so much material never covered in class. Almost all of my friends (including me) had to audit the class after the first exam. His past reviews are WRONG
Chris is a great teacher!! Finance is hard, but if you pay attention in class and study you'll do fine. he likes when people participate and will sometimes just call on people to answer. theres 3 exams, none are cumulative. 1 is during finals week. homework is online, you dont need textbook. he is on UD capture
the past reviews really do not give good insight on what the class is like. his exams are way too hard to finish on time. he also will not give extra credit or boost your grade at all. he even said the first class "the only form of extra credit i give is if you attend every single tutor session and are 1 point away from failing, then i will pass u"
You are given all the resources you need, but you need to WORK. Advice: READ THE BOOK, study the clicker questions/hw probs/quizzes/EXAM PRACTICE PROBS before the exam, go to tutoring/office hours. Prof. Lynch is one of my favorite professors - great explanations, energetic, knowledgeable, organized, quick communication, very willing to help.
Lynch is a good guy and great teacher. Its the exams that students really struggle with. You are so crunched for time (you take them at the testing center) and the questions are honestly nearly impossible if you are not a finance major. Exams are worth 90% of your grade, so you need to get 100% on HW to save your grade. Good luck with this one.
The online tests are at the testing center but Prof. Lynch cares about student feedback and providing as many resources for students as possible. He arranges student tutoring hours which really helped my understanding of the material. Spend time doing the practice exams and you will be well prepared for the exams.
Pros: - Good lecturer - Lots of online help and recorded classes - Attendance is not required (thank god because I only went to 4 classes maybe) Cons: - have to go to online testing center to take exam even tho its an in-person class
The homework takes forever and barely helps your grade. Be warned: if you want to do well in this course you will have to teach yourself all of the concepts. Nice guy though.
Very test heavy. Not open to help students. Would not round my grade 0.01% to an A- despite getting a 100 on the final and always coming to class.
His teaching is extremely passive. He throws old lectures on canvas and expects us to be masters in a topic he couldn't be bothered to teach. Good luck Charlie!
Chris Lynch is a great professor for FINC311. I do believe the grading structure is harsh, but this is more a problem in the course than the teaching. You will have to work for the grade you want in this class, but overall the class is interesting and the honors project actually helps take some weight off the exams which is nice.
Honestly, prof. Lynch is very passionate about his subject however he makes it clear that even if you end up with an 89.99% in the class he won't even round it up to an A! Also, I have attended various review sessions in the past which I didn't find helpful at all.
I'm convinced Chris writes his own reviews on this website. This is the worst class I've taken in my three years of college. Exams are 90% of your grade, impossible to finish in time, and a class average of 53% is "fair" in Chris' words. He will not round grades and works hard to make sure the average grade is a C. Not worth the mental stress.
Lynch is a horrible professor. During corona he posted old lectures for students to learn from (some as old as November 2017) instead of bothering to teach us himself. Exams are worth way too much of the grade and he thinks a 50% exam average is "good", worst/ least considerate prof I've had at UD by far. I think he actually wants to see us to fail
This man is the worst prof I have ever had. Intentionally made this class impossible during the pandemic solely because we did well on the first exam. Horrible learning environment and would rather catch his students doing anything suspicious than actually care about his student's mental health. He thinks a 53% average on an exam is ok. DONT TAKE
BEWARE: This class is an emotional roller coaster! His tests are information overload, have a severe time constraint, and are just impossible. He thinks a 53 average is fair and he's not willing to work with his students. I really think he wanted us to fail because he did everything in his power to add more obstacles against us to keep a C average.
This is a very bad teacher whether online or offline course of his speech is very bad and he never has been used to prepare new PPT powerpoint it is very difficult for his exams to teach students basic don't really want to let the student through this course, even if he feels what he taught in place, in fact, he didn't give students a clear tutoria
The Professor is the worst Ive met. Terrible!! Don't take his class!! His exam are really time constraint. During the coronavirus period, he used the old lecture videoes that I cannot hear his voice. He is a tough grader. He thought that an average grade is 53% of an exam is acceptable but higher average grade is not acceptable. Ridiculous!
Horrible professor, worst professor I've ever had at UD. He gave up teaching when coronavirus hit, then penalized all his students who were just trying to get by. The first exam we had IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PANDEMIC everybody got a 53% and he did nothing about it. Chris lynch is a horrible person with absolutely no compassion and a terrible teacher.
Professor Lynch is one of the worst professors Ive ever had, posting old lectures during coronavirus where you can barely understand because he was too lazy to teach. Everybody failed the second exam, but he didnt care. He doesnt care. Dont take !!
This guy is a terrible professor. He actively did absolutely nothing to accommodate his students during the pandemic, in fact he went out of his way to make the class harder because he assumes everyone cheats. He was unsympathetic when everyone's lives are upside during corona. He will do anything to save himself as professor, do not take his class
Professor Lynch is probably the worst professor I've had at UD. He had absolutely no sympathy for students in the transition to online classes. We had to learn the whole course ourselves and the exams were impossible. Don't even give this guy the satisfaction of teaching other students.
Do not take for online. During a pandemic, he didnt help students struggling but made everything harder. Everyone was struggling so much but he didnt care much. Maybe take the on campus classes but do not, DO NOT take the online for finc311. Its a big struggle.
During the online spring 2020 semester and the pandemic, Chris Lynch actively made his final exam harder by changing the format of half the questions. He then withheld ALL student's final grades for a week and accused everyone of cheating in belligerent emails. He is the ONLY professor who teaches this required class. The WORST UD FINC professor.
Lynch is not only the worst professor Ive had- he might just be the worst educator Ive ever had in my 15 years of school. Just for reference, if lynch didnt post videos of other professors explaining concepts, I have no doubt that I would have an F. He actively makes his class harder than it needs to be because he is incapable of educating.
unsympathetic during really rough times (covid19). went out of his way to make the class tougher than it needed to be for no reason.
This guy is an absolutely awful professor. Does not even upload announcements to Canvas when he uploads HW to other sites. Claims attendance is not mandatory, but then makes 20% of your grade assignments that are given during class and then due directly after. Unorganized, ruthless, terrible. In these stressful times, do not take his class.
Was accused of cheating on an exam. This class was so ruthless for no reason. During not only COVID, but also the stressful 2020 election, he showed no sympathy for a single student. In class assignments (worth 20% of grade) (attendance not required BTW) are graded for correction. It really makes you wonder how a person can be this bad at their job
Chris Lynch wasnt that amazing at teaching the lectures. The exams were very similar to the practice exams though. He allowed us to use a cheat sheet on the exams and in order the pass the class with a C- all you need to do is get a 100 on problem sets (which are easy) and on homeworks, for the exams you just need a 40%, 50%, 50% and 50%
Prof Lynch is awesome and really cares about his students. He made sure that we had plenty of opportunities to practice problems and increase our grades. The tests could be challenging but Prof Lynch provides you with everything you need to know. Even though the classes are large Prof Lynch makes sure to help everyone and does a great job.
Professor Lynch is incredibly underrated. Do not let some of these ratings fool you he is an awesome professor who really cares about his students. The lowest 5 problem sets are dropped, the lowest two homeworks are dropped which you can redo until you get a 100%. Also your lowest exam is only worth 5% of your grade. Take his class it is worth it.
Overall, the professor did a great job explaining the content and providing assistance when needed! I assume the low scores are from students who didn't come to class or do the work. If you watch the lectures and complete the assignments, there's no reason you shouldn't earn at least a B in the course.
lynch was a fantastic instructor. I found finance to be really difficult for me, and trust me i studied extremely hard. Lynch is a guy who wants you to succeed. This class is a lot of work but he is there for you. I just wished he curved some tests being that the averages were 75s. Take him if you can but know you r gonna have to put in the work.
I was worried about taking this class with Lynch but he really was not bad. He was pretty accessible outside of the class and he was clear about grading. The class itself is very hard though. If this was in-person, I probably would have done much better but I am going to retake it again. Lynch is a fine professor but the class is very challenging.
He really is a great lecturer who explains all the material pretty intuitively. He also gave a lot of opportunity to make your grades up so one bad assignment won't hurt you too much.
Professor Lynch was awesome. The class is challenging but fair, and if you stay engaged and apply yourself you will get out what you put in.
Professor Lynch himself is not a bad person but I did not like his finance class. It was one of the hardest courses I’ve taken thus far (probably because it was online). I was about to fail this class but I took it again with Coughenour and got an A-. No matter how much I studied, I never felt prepared for the exams even with the note sheets.
lynch is a great teacher. a lot of people don't like him because of the material but I found it to be easy. 4 exams at the testing center and you can have a cheat sheet. Class isn't mandatory but you have to attend to get credit and he really gives you a lot of practice problems that are on the exams
His lectures were hard to follow and the tests were far more difficult than the homework. I went to office hours and he did not offer feedback on how to improve. I put a lot of effort and quality time into studying for all of the tests and it didn't pay off because of the level of difficulty of tests and the overall lack of in-class preparation.
Professor Lynch is a fair professor and shouldn't be avoided. However if you have the choice, take his smaller class as I am currently in a big lecture hall with 150 students. He cares and knows a LOT about finance.
Lynch was great - he explains the material in a very intuitive way that made things much easier to understand. There are lecture videos to watch before class, and he goes through all the material again in class which really helps. He walks you through all the problems before doing them on your own. He is clearly very knowledgeable on finance.
Class grade is based on connect chapter homework, problem sets and 4 exams. Exams are at the testing center. Take a different professor if possible.
If you can, you should definitely take Lynch for FINC311. He does an excellent job of explaining the material, provides many resources for notes, and walks you through example problems in class. I still find myself referring back to the notes I took in this class for higher level finance courses. Tests are straight forward, but you need to study.
Not the worst but he expects way too much from students. Expects you spend 10+ hrs/week outside of class in order to succeed. Grade is mostly made up of tests. Exam questions similar to homeworks but more difficult. It feels like he tries to trick you. His ppts are nicely laid out but I learned more figuring it out on my own than sitting in class.
I dont know why Chris has such bad ratings. He is so good. He really explains the why behind finance and is very engaging throughout class. There are no surprises on the exam ever. He drops 2 hw and 4 problem sets. Course is graded by that and exams only but the hw is unlimited attempts and shows you the right answers, prob sets are done in class
Not sure why there are so many bad reviews- Professor Lynch is awesome. His lectures are very straightforward and he is accessible outside of class/offers review sessions before exams. Make sure you watch the lectures before class to keep up with the pace. All the exams are very reflective of the online practice problems, no surprises.
Need to pay attention and put in the work to do a decent job. He explains well and is extremely fiar, easy to contact, and appreciative. No extra credit, and class is not mandatory on Fridays which is nice.
Good professor but talks a million miles per minute
The way FINC311 is structured well, as long as you follow along. Prof. Lynch runs lectures well and makes sure you understand the material at the end of the class period. Tests are not easy, you need to study. If you think he's a bad teacher you probably didn't put in the effort needed.
Nice personable guy but the lectures are a snooze fest. He also jam-packs way too much info on the slides and skims over some of the info. There's no point in going in person because he speeds through the slides and you have no time to take notes on anything. His summary slides before tests were helpful.
pretty awful overall, lectures are incredibly hard to sit through and he's a spaz most of the time
The way he teaches the class and the necessary equations are formatted differently than the homework and tests, which are all online. He is very smart, so he moves very fast and just expects u to know it. This makes tests so hard. I have a 3.8 gpa and this was my first grade below an A-, i got a C. No extra credit, but doesnt take attendance
Take him if you wanna learn. He's an energetic lecturer who wants students to learn, not just memorize. However, the class is very exam heavy and you need to study to do well. Pro tip: watch the videos before class. It'll put you ahead of everyone else and you'll come into class prepared. This is a class where you can get an A if you put in work
As a Financial Planning major you have no choice in most of your fp classes. Lynch is a good prof but as the semester progressed he changed his structure to be more challenging. The material in this class was difficult, but I found his style very frustrating. He wastes time in class and yaps, even before exams, 4 of them worth 80% of your grade.
If math/ finance isn't your thing, take a different professor. He's definitely very passionate about the subject, but he crams too much into his lectures. The way he teaches how to do the math in class is not the same as the exams. Which sucks because your grade is 80% exams. I took this class twice and could not pass it.
This class isn't as bad as everyone makes it seem. He posts lecture videos and reviews the main points in class. If you don't look at the videos the class won't be as easy but the videos are like 15mins so just watch them. Cheat sheet for all 4 exams. Take this guy for finc311, don't listen to the bad reviews from students who don't do the work.
He teaches each topic not well and then hits you with really hard questions that you don't know how to solve unless you're a finance major or good at math. Do not take this class with him! tests make up 80% of your grade and are so hard. He curves the tests only by 2 points and the class averages are very low. You'll only struggle in this class.
I have a feeling that everybody who left a negative review put either very little effort into the class or skipped it often. Professor Lynch is a great professor, and you will do well if you are willing to put some effort into the class. I am not good at math by any means, but I found his material to be very helpful in preparing for the exams
This professor cares that you learn and understand the material instead of memorizing equations. He explains everything in multiple ways to best accomidate different learning styles. The tests are exactly like the practice, you get a cheat sheet and he does review classes. Show up, listen, take notes and do his practice and you will do good.
THE GOAT. If you study you will pass. Chris is a great guy and an amazing professor.
Professor Lynch seems like a good guy but it was hard having him as a professor. His lectures were confusing at best, but the worst part is the class structure. The tests are formatted horribly and the final grade is basically all tests. It is incredibly high pressure for something that is conceptual. I know many people who dropped. Don't take him.
I honestly don't know why Lynch has such bad reviews, I thought he was a great professor as the exams were exactly like the practice and we were taught everything in lectures. He is very accessible outside of class and if you put the work in you will succeed.
I had to drop this class because I was not improving on exams but this professor was really great at what he does. The fact he goes around during lecture and tries to help each student shows how much he cares. The only negative is that exams are 80% of your grade and they were really hard. I understood the lectures and could do the work fine though
This professor is awful. Will not give any extra credit even when everyone in the class asks for it. The tests are so hard and the lectures do not prepare you for them. I even went to almost every single office hour and did not receive any help. Also if you have a university excuse for an absence he does not care and won't count it as an excuse.
This class was horrible! I studied above his recommended 6-9 hours a week and still struggled. You will run out of time on the test because it is extremely difficult and does not reflect what is taught in the lecture. Office hours are not helpful. Even if you have a university excused absence you have to be in class or it will impact your grade.
If you go to class and pay attention, you will pass with ease. Each class is important, and he explains stuff pretty well. exams are like practice quizzes that he gives, just do them and you wont have trouble. Homework every once and a while do good on them It will boost your grade, in lecture assignments, don't miss them.
The most standard prof you're gonna get. He is exactly what you'd expect a finance teacher to be like- not that it's a bad thing. He talks really fast, and attendance is graded on Mon+Wed, not Fri. Your grade is 80% non-cumulative exams (4), 10% HW (which is annoying), and 10% daily in class assignments. Other profs are probably easier
This Professor does not care for his students wellbeing. His Exams are worth 80% of your grade and he does not do a very good job at teaching the topics to you. The exams are nothing like his study guides and he would rather watch a student fail than succeed. Overall he is not a people's person professor and you need to avoid him at all cost!
Hard to understand classes because he goes WAYYYY to fast and barely gives you time to write down material. The questions on exams can be confusing due to the formula he provides are never the same for the exam. Personally I would avoid this class and take it over the summer with a different professor.
Avoid this professor. The exams are at the testing center and are very difficult. Very hard class to get a good grade in.
Good luck getting a good grade in this class. I studied for the 6-9 hours he recommends and still didn't get a good grade. Be ready to not be able to finish the exams by the time limit.
Not a good professor.
80% of grade is very difficult exams. Don't advise taking him.
You're not getting a good grade in this class. If you're an A student you're gonna get a B+ at best. Lynch is not good take it over summer to avoid.
Practice exams only help you with like 5 of the 25 problems on the exam. The rest good luck with it.
The class is very very exam heavy. Your grade is determined by 4 exams, and homework and in class assignments take up 20% of the grade. The exams are hard, but you do get a study sheet for it. He explains the materials very well and the slides and recordings are super helpful. A super nice guy in general!
pretty mid professor tbh. I ain't learn anything from his teaching style.
So mid ima give him two bad ratings. Avoid this guy.
Professor Lynch isn't as bad as everyone says! His lectures are always less than 30 slides, most of which are in-class practice problems and important formulas. Grade is exam dependent, but you get a on sided cheat sheet, 8x11 in size. As long as you go to class and just listen to what he says, you'll do perfectly fine.
Your grade is gonna be mostly exams. Lynch is a great guy and knows a lot about finance, but he's not the best at explaining it. He puts lecture videos on Canvas so you should probably watch those before class or exams. Fridays are optional and MW classes you have a problem set in class, which is probably the best way to learn.
I was so scared based on his ratings but he was one of my favorite professors I've ever had. He has a connect homework every chapter, which I usually do every week, which is a grade booster and he gives problem sets every class (only graded MW) which forces you to practice what you just learned. He's also very accessible and caring.
FINC 311 is challenging, but Professor Lynch makes the class very manageable. He truly cares about his students and is extremely helpful, especially during office hours. He clearly states his expectations and intentions at the beginning of the semester, which sets students up for success.
