he is young, fun , tests are hard, good lectures
easy, very nice, willing to work with you on anything.
cool, but nerdy. def take !
He is a great guy! he cares about his students doing well and is very passionate about his subjects. he is a fair grader, and pushes you to do well. take him!!
He cares about students and he knows the material. Great teacher. I would take him again.
Amazing professor, Incredible
nice, good teacher. do not take one day week class, it is so long and boring. but he knows what he is talking about.
He is the best!! He really knows what he is talking about and passionate for it! His exams ARE challenging, but you leave the class knowing a lot. He is ALWAYS willing to help no matter what.
He is the best!! He loves what he does and teaches it in an easy way. He gives u all the formulas for his tests, which arent hard as long as u study. He cares about his students and wants them to fully understand stats and I can say I learned in his class
He is a really nice and helpful teacher and tries to explain things as best as he can but the class is still difficult. Test are defintly hard and the classes are kinds boring.Might want to find an easier teacher.
very nice teacher, very informative, def. knows his stuff. lectures can be boring and hard to follow, but info is interesting. tests are so-so.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRINGGGGGGGGG as helll.. And he is crazy about stats... He isnt really to easy at all. And he is obsessed with stats and rat testing he is a nerd big time.
WOW, what a boring inividual. The man knows his material better than the author of the text. wants his students to pass. very helpful, lectures are sooooooo boring. bring food and a book to read. Nerdy too, but a good choice to take.
An awesome, helpful, enthusiastic and fair teacher. Knows his material extremely well, class is boring but he tries hard to make it exciting. The course is a lot more physiologically based than I thought it would be, which makes it difficult. It's helpful to have taken biol or anatomy before taking.
He knows the material and is extremely helpful/fair in grading. Study material in book and lectures and you should do well. Recommend to those who are serious about studying and learning. Better to listen/take notes not eat/read novel!!!!
Really nice and helpful teacher. Material and tests, however, are difficult. In order to do really well you need to memorize and understand all notes and details from lectures IN ADDITION to the assigned chapters of the book. A lot of biology and memorization. Don't take unless serious.
He really knows what hes talking about and loves teaching which is more then I can say for his collegues. Yes, as nice and caring and helpful as he is you cant help but say the class is still boring, he trys so hard not to make it that way. He is one of the nicest and smartest people I now know.
Absolutely adorable little man!! SOO nice, so helpful, knows his material better than the author of the textbook, has a GREAT background in psych, sooo passionate about teaching and his work. Class is kind of biology-based but he really gets you to understand it and learn. DEF. RECOMMEND TAKING HIM!
class was a little diff then i expected but he's SUCH a good teacher and really knows what hes talkin about- go to the review session before the test bc he tells u the answers he wants to hear for his MC tests- takes attendance but it doesnt count for anything really loves what hes talkin about
You will get bored in this class, but the guy loves statistics. He gives you all the formulas, if you go to class (no attendance policy) and pay attention you'll do fine. I had a bunch of dumb girls in my class who always talked, and I'm sure they didn't pass, but I got a B- and expected a C........
i had him for statistics. lectures can put you to sleep. However, he is very willing to give you as much help as you need. Just remember he cant help you unless you ask. so if you have problem ask him. iexpected to fail and I got a c+ because he was so willing to help me.
This professor really knows is stuff. He is a really good professor. He really cares about his students and wants to make sure they are doing well, but it is your responsibility to ask him. Class may seem a little hard at first, but towards the end you realize he is an easy grader. I got an A which I definitely didnt expect going into the course.
This is the second class I took with him, and this one was much harder. I would recommend stat with him but not research methods. The tests were random, he pulled random questions out of the book. There is one big paper that he pretty much helps you with and will allow you to salvage a C. I came to class almost every day but could barely stay awake
Cute little man. LOVE'S HIS STAT! Extremely intelligent and EXTREMELY hard! You DO need to come to class and you DO need to study. He pretty much tells you a lot of stuff on the test through lecture, you will find out after the first test what he is looking for. But, it's still hard to know all the information.
He is WAY too passionate about statistics. Would never let the class leave a minute early. Tests were pretty hard, and he offers no study guide. Ask him about horror movies during the break and he will talk about them for at least a half hour (no lie!)
Prof.Magallis is really cool!Take him- u`ll never regret- understandable, good-teaching. Tests are based on his lectures and textbook material as well. Pretty easy stuff if u attend class and use ur common sense. He stresses on the application of Psych. He`s really nice guy- I looooove this class- take it....
Very helpfull if you need it..... Does not curve grades ever......Uses the full lecture period......Fair grading policy. Extra credit was available.....
Notes were all over the place. I had to read the chapters and take my own notes to fully understand the concepts. Nice guy. One take home exam on SPSS. The lectures were so boring. I got an A- with some effort.
Okay, i absoulutely hated this class. The teacher was nice but did not offer alot of help outside of class, if ur schedule doesn't meet his office hours then you are SOL. Get a tutor because this class is hard. Again, this is not a very helpful teacher...
Very difficult course but he is there to help you as much as you want. He is really excited about phys psych! You MUST read and attend EVERY class to do well! He is a very nice guy!!
Statistics sucks no matter who you may have a teacher. This guy at least has a lot of enthusiasm and tries really hard to make sure his kids understand. Spent a lot of time reviewing core stat. You could get an A+ without ever cracking the book.
He is a great teacher. The class was really difficult, but it is physiological psych and that's hard stuff. I was worried, but I studied before each test and got an A. MUST go to class and take detailed notes. Also, he lets you get 5 points of extra credit for participating in a psych study. Really nice guy and ALWAYS available to help.
i thought statistics was going to be hard, but with magalis it all makes sense. He really cares about what he teaches. If you have to take stat, take it with him
I took Behavioral Stats with him and he really loves his job. He cares about the students actually understanding why you are doing something and offers a lot of help outside of class. he loves to teach. he's one of the best teachers i have had and i plan on taking other classes he teaches. Love him!
Prof Magalis is amazing :) he's a great guy and is really enthusiastic about statistics. He relates statistics to horror films and tries his best to keep stats interesting. I'm not a math person and I managed a B+. take him!
I love him. He's so passionate about the subject. I took him for Behav. Stat. and Research Method. He's so helpful and will take time to make sure you understand everything.
He's a great teacher, very helpful, and passionate about what he teaches. However the material is really challenging and his notes are all over the board. dont take this course unless you need to!
Magalas is an amazing professor! Take this class if you can. The material is very interesting and he offers help outside of class if you need it. 3 tests total. 1 independent research project. Make sure you take notes on his lectures, he doesn't use powerpoints or the book.
Alot of students would get frusturated with him because he tends to ramble a bit but he absolutely LOVES the subject and tries his hardest to make sure everyone in the class understands. He has high standards...a 95 is an A...but if you put the effort into the class, this is definitely achievable. Gives you all the equations on the tests. Take him!
He is a great professor. If you are looking for an easy class this is not for you! I got frustrated a lot in this class because the material is difficult. He is passionate about teaching and over explains things sometimes. He is always more than willing to help you understand anything. Great professor.
This class is not interesting at all, but he makes it interesting. A lot of the material seems like a repeat from Behavioral Stats so if you did good there, you'll do well in this class. Gives one APA paper that's worth half your grade, but if you start early he looks over it and tell you what corrections to make. A funny "little" man!
He is a really great teacher. He cares for his students and wants them to do well. I can say that though I disliked the topic and it wasn't easy, I learned a lot from him and could find the class interesting because of the way he taught it. He's a little nerdy, but he knows it and can joke about it to give the class a good laugh.
Very tough class but he is very helpful. If you study hard and go to class you can get an A or B.
Professor Magalis has to be my most favorite and smartest teacher I have ever had. He is so helpful and genuinely cares about everyone in his class; yes, the material is difficult, but he makes it crystal clear and answers all questions plus some! If you decide to take physio, take it with him - you will not regret it. Sweetest teacher ever!
AWESOME teacher. Definitely one of my favorites. The subject matter of the class is not extremely interesting, but since he is so excited about it, it makes you excited to learn. He also LOVES questions and makes you very comfortable when asking them. I highly recommend this professor. He is great!!!
He is such a great guy. Really nice and really excited about statistics. Very helpful, the material isn't hard but pay attention and do practice problems. Definitely would recommend him to anyone!
ok so he is a great person, but he is so confusing! i took him for research methods and he changed my whole experiment to the point of me having absolutely no clue what was going on. he is very willing to talk to you, but you have to go talk to him five or six times to understand what he wants to get across.
The class is a little difficult because of the subject material, but Magalis is extremely willing to talk to you after class and explain things more thoroughly. By far the nicest and most willing to help out of all the professors I've had. Highly recommended.
Prof Magalis is such a nice person! He knows so much about research methods and is super willing to help anyone who comes to his office hours. Definitely taking this professor for other courses.
Mr.Magalis is the nicest teacher ever. Not to mention he gets so excited about the subject he is teaching that it is just hilarious to hear him talk about it. He knows his stuff and is willing to help you with any question you have. Although this class is not totally easy, he can make things crystal clear for you. Def take Physiological Psyc with h
This guy talks a lot and is in love with stats. Its a lot of material. You must attend every class for any hope of getting a decent grade.
I took this professor back in 2003 (?) and I just remember him back then being really awesome. The class is not easy unless you STUDY but he was a GREAT professor! I am glad to hear he still loves statistics!!!
The course itself is challenging and requires a LOT of studying and your free time. However, the knowledge is useful in every day life. The professor is so silly and sweet, he knows his stuff and keeps up with current research. He made it much less of a burden. You do not want to miss class because so much work is covered in each class
The class itself was slightly challenging, but he tends to go off on tangents about things that do not pertain to the information you're learning. Kind of annoying. Be prepared to teach yourself for the exams. And be prepared to dig through every article the library has on file. Start your final paper first thing!
Physio can be a difficult class so if you need to, ask Magalis or his TA's for help. The worst thing about this class was that it was at 8am and 2.5 hours long.
I would have enjoyed this class a lot more if it didn't emphasize evolutionary psychology and biological models as much. If biology and evolution turn you off, I would suggest another class. Otherwise it's pretty easy -- three tests (multiple choice, short answers) and a short project.
He's so quirky, but it works for him! He strongly believes in the power of demonstration so once stood outside in the freezing cold to show the affect of temp. on the body. And humped the floor to demonstrate lordosis. Kept me awake for the 8AM! Test are easy, plenty of extra credit and free points. Stats nut though. Encourages exploration :)
I liked his teaching methods a lot; may be tedious for some as he really hand-holds the class through the material. I prefer this style of teaching because I never feel left behind or unable to figure out answers either on my own or with his help as long as I attend class.
Magalis is willing to go out of his way to help you, but he honestly isn't the best professor past that. The exams do not make sense and the paper is ridiculous considering so many people have never written a research paper.
This man changed my college experience. He is one of the kindest and most caring professors I have EVER had. He also helped me grow a passion for research that I never knew I could develop. He talks a lot, but it is because he is so passionate about the topic and his students. He teaches because he loves it, and that shines through!
He has such a big heart for his students and genuinely cares for the success of all his students. His class is lecture intensive and he can be confusing sometimes so ask questions!
Mr. Magalis was such an amazing Prof. I had him for Psysio and Stats and you can tell he loves what he teaches. This class is extremely hard but he is very knowledgeable about the course. I would recommend to take him, but be prepared to work. He also works with his students.
DO NOT take physiological psychology with this man unless you already have a degree in neuroscience. The class is difficult enough already, but he does a horrible job of explaining concepts if you don't/barely understand. The lectures go way too fast, especially after he manages to get back on task after going off on tangents. Get ready to suffer.
Give him a chance, he is worth it!! Regardless of his high expectations which is expected in college, he cares a great deal about his students. I had him for both PSYC 212 and PSYC 314 and I could not image taking it with anyone else. He will help you through anything if you ask. These are not easy courses so put effort in and youll be fine!
He's an AMAZING professor. He knows what he's talking about, and wants to make sure that you understand the material as well. If you don't understand something, ASK questions. HE LOVES QUESTIONS and also go to office hours. He will lead you through everything until it makes sense to you!! He really loves stats, and cares for his students. TAKE HIM!
Magalis is honestly the best professor I have had so far. I had a hard time understanding math, and statistics throughout school and somehow, through taking his class, math and statistics makes so much sense. He loves questions and when students answer the questions he has. If you have a hard time with statistics and math, TAKE HIM!!!!
Such a caring professor! He wants his students to succeed more than anything else. He is so passionate about statistics & is always willing to answer questions and repeat concepts again if you have questions. If you have trouble with statistics, 10/10 would recommend taking him.
He was passionate about research but I really didn't feel that I learned anything from him. In the online format, he would randomly email us once every 3 weeks. One time, he hadn't reached out to us in 3 weeks and it was 2pm and he had 3 assignments due at midnight, which we didn't know about before that day. It was also during finals...
Perhaps THE BEST professor that Towson has to offer. He knows and is very passionate about his craft. His class is very engaging and informative. Though the course itself is one of the more difficult psyc courses, he makes sure that nobody is struggling. Not only is he a great professor, but he is also a very kind and caring person as an advisor.
Hes not as caring as he tells his students he is and hes not very flexible in the online environment. I dont think hes that great. He knows about the subject but hes not that good at teaching it and getting his thoughts to come out of his mouth understandably. I wouldnt recommend him
Hes friendly. Research methods is already a challenging class, and he knows the material very well, but in an online setting its hard to focus and understand whats happening. Lectures are boring and long, and slightly unorganized, and he got very behind on course work and the lecture schedule. He may be better during in-person classes.
Dull and rambly in class. No or very little visual stimuli. It's hard to tell what is actually important to learn and what is just story filler. Rarely uploads things to blackboard, like due dates. He means well, though. Really passionate and loves his work, just not an interesting speaker.
Unclear about things required in papers, and really snarky about his feedback. General unprofessional attitude. Lectures are long and boring. Quiz 1 had tricky wording that hurt a lot of students, Quiz 2 did not. Provides a template for the papers he requires, which makes things easier. Prides himself in students struggling to keep up.
I wanted to like Magalis so bad but he acts like we are supposed to know everything he knows. It feels like he enjoys failing students. The tests were really difficult and he was a very hard grader. Don't let his corny jokes fool you into thinking he'll be any bit easier on you. He mentions how he's proud of how difficult the class was
Great teacher! His lectures are long but they are very informative and he makes class very interesting with personal stories. His class is very hard but it is also a 400 level bio psych so lots of studying is required but if you study and go to all this office hours which he is very accommodating for you will do just fine. A real gem!
very kind person and is extremely passionate about the topics in this class. he is an easy grader and we were allowed to take all of our tests as a class. That is all that is good. He does not know how to follow a schedule, is very unorganized, gets off topic every class. He also took up our final exam period by lecturing the whole exam time. noooo
Get ready to sit in your over 3-hour class with no breaks and listen to him talk the whole time about the same thing in different ways. He claims attendance isn't required, and it isn't. BUT, he is a hard grader if you miss class even if it is for legal legitimate reasons. Don't get me wrong if you do your work then you will pass but beware.
He really cares about statistics which makes the course more enjoyable. He is very helpful and I will be taking him for Psyc 314! Take his class if you can
Magalis is very passionate and cares a lot about his students. He will work with you and do what he can to help you succeed. I love him, but fair warning that he may be a bit much for some people. He does lecture during the whole class period, but it's important to show up. If you just go to class you'll know what you're doing and you'll do well.
Professor Magalis is an amazing professor who you can always tell is passionate about what he teaches, and he always gives good feedback if you need a paper review. Also just someone fun to talk to! Only thing keeping him from a perfect 5/5 is his tendency to lose track of class time, but other than that, he is awesome!
I needed some accommodation which didn't allow me to attend his course in person, so before the course even began I emailed him twice but he didn't answer. When the course began, I emailed him two more times and he ignored me again.
His class material was very hard for me, but he is an amazing professor. He is very passionate and seems to really care. Honestly one of the best professors I ever had.
285- Proff. Magalis is a very caring person, and he wants you to do well and succeed in this class. He always encourages office hours. lectures can be heavy as he is passionate about teaching. Sometimes, I get a little lost in the lectures. attend class if you want to do well especially for tests, go through each PPs, and take notes from lectures!
Highly caring & wants his students to succeed. He is very passionate about stats so he does tend to lecture for a long duration; sometimes you have to remind him of the time. BUT he adds points for a curve which is super nice. Answers your questions w/ patience & sensitivity. He is a down-to-earth prof. BUT you have to do YOUR part, too, and WORK.
He truly wants his students to do the best they can and he makes sure they do. He gives us extremely clear criteria in our assignments from the lectures and the syllabus. You will not fail this class if you actually care about the psych major. He is THE best professor to take research methods with.
His lectures are painfully boring, he often gets sidetracked and talks about the same thing for over half the class. A girl asked a definition, HE SPENT THE ENTIRE 3 HR CLASS RAMBLING AB IT. He is very kind and caring but also very nitpicky. You will pass prob not with an A. I saw the grades for my class papers it seemed nobody got an A just B/C
