Hes super smart...tons of note taking!!!!
defiently laid back
I hated Chris. He is lazy and allows cheating.
Dr. Chris is great.

He is demanding but fair, if you are lazy do not take his classes.
He's a good teacher, but he is so monotone and boring
Super awesome Prof. I love his class. If you are a slacker, take something else

i think he is great but he is sorta monotone
He's not too plesant outside of class, but in class he's pretty interesting

Nice guy in class, but not approachable at all! Not very understanding. Hes funny, but this is a hard class, dont take it if your a slacker or lazy!
How can you not respect a man who wrote three books, teaches four different courses, has a piano in his office (does it work?), and still manages to be witty?
Dry humour has never been that funny! PLUS I learned alot!
Not bad decent guy fairly approachable
very good prof, but dont ever e-mail him...he is a little slow at responding sometimes. WEB PAGES are not fun
extremely boring class. very monotonous. i don't like his dry humour. not very helpful and definately NOT approachable outside of class.
Very hot! Approachable, smart, caring. Who wouldn't like a professor who has done so much quality research, publishes extensively and does tai chi on the side.
LOVE THE GUY! He's funny, smart and an all around great guy.(The perfect man if you will) If you want an awesome prof, he's the one.
Historical Reactions....mandatory class and he's the only prof...oh no! Dr.Chris wrote the text...so nothing more could be wanted for....he doesn't teach...puts overheads on the board which he expects you to copy and rambles about stuff.
dr. chris is intelligent and interesting. he's a bit rough and gruff sometimes but not in a mean way. i enjoyed his class and so i decided to continue to take crim.
Excellent teacher and the most engaging. His use of measurements other than tests to access your knowledge is an excellent one. His dry sense of humour is second to none which makes the classes fun to be in. You learn so much in his classes because his l
ohhh god! I have him now.. this class Historical Reactions is a maditory.. He's a nice prof, but once he gets into that door it's all about note taking... and he expects us to answer him as we are writing.. Whatver he says goes through one ear to the next
great guy.
Well, the man is Weird weird!!! But not a mean guy funny at times, webpages arent fun but he knows his stuff
Has millions of overheads to copy from...his speeches go in one ear, out the other. Knows his stuff, though...but one just can't do everything at once. What's this with the final exam that we know 0 about?????????
I can sum him up in one word ... BORING!!!
soooo boring
I really enjoyed Prof. Chris's class. He's very intelligent, a tad eccentric, but interesting and entertaining.
Great prof. Go to class and you will do fine.
good proff....be ready to take lots of notes. he tells good stories. start your web page early cause you will have problems!!!
Complete jerk! Insanely unreasonable and he teaches you nothing. The webpages are a complete waste of time. Get a clue and learn to teach, Chris!
ASS!!! Hes horrible unclear and not willing to help at all! makes you hate crim dont take him if htere are any other choices...... hes late and hes never in his office
Why are you people complaining? All you need to do is make a website, a poster, and attend a few classes and you are guarnteed at least a B. At least St Thomas has one prof that is not a radical leftist.
Chris is a great prof. He's clear in his expectations and fair in his marking, plus he's interesting to listen to.
His class was very interesting, though there were times he dragged subjects out too much. Only problem that I had was my mark for attendance. I missed 2 classes and got a C-. Ouch!!
This is a prof that expects you to attend class and do assignments, if you do that you'll be fine. Hes an awesome guy and an awesome prof, I took him for every class I could, he was a real GPA booster! Love ya Chris!!!!!!!!!
A moron, plain and simple...
insanely unreasonable, difficult, and insists that you read and write thingsz, aggh
AWESOME! This class was VERY interesting and very relevant! (a nice change) Chris was clearly knowledgable about what he was teaching, his research in Atlantic Canada is very notable and his Gleaner column is the best the paper has. An awesome prof who knows his stuff. He is very fair.
Chris is awesome! People who do not enjoy him, clearly don't have a sense of humor! He is hilarious and his classes are awesome. I will say that some of the material is boring, but its school people!!
The course was great and very interesting. I liked his dry sense of humour. He is a very nice man who really cares about his students. Above all I learnt how to do a webpage. I got a whole lot more out of this course than what I expected
Great Prof and funny too! Great Class
Great Class - I learnt so much and will never accept another news commentary as so because some reporter said so!!!! You learn how to read between the lines and learn to develop fact from myth. Great class Dr. Chris! Your the Best!
Sometimes he can seem like he is apathetic about it all, but if you listen to his dry humour you'll get it. Never got below an A- but had to work for it. Hey Chris, we get it, websites are good to know how to do but give it up already, or give a paper option. Overall one of the best profs at STU.

oh so boring to ,isten to.. needs new jokes.. good class though
He is really enthusiastic about what he teaches. Although class attendance is not mandatory, he does not post his notes online and there are in class questions which he uses to keep track of who attends. These in class questions are worth 25% of your grade. I would definitely encourage people to take this class.
All of the information we needed was placed on a slide show and all we were required to do was write it down. If found this very helpful in learning the material. Movies were also shown and I enjoyed this as it broke up the class and made it so that the class was not boring.

Chris is a nice enough guy, but his class is just him reading his power points to us, which he doesn't know how to use anyway. The tests are only out of the textbook, so there's no point in even going to class anyway. Tests ask REALLY specific LONG multiple choice questions. One of the worst profs for intro Crim from what i've heard.
Chris is a nice enough guy but I don't think he really cares about teaching Intro. It was all power-point and TONS of notes. You get NONE of your work back - just a mark posted, so you never know what you're doing badly on. I like him and would probably take him again but I wouldn't take his Intro class.
Very good prof, interesting, engaging, knows his stuff, good assignments, would recomend to others
favorite
Enjoyed the class - can be a little boring at times, but overall a good class.
Chris's first year class, was slightly boring, due to the amount of information, but Chris was a great prof. He knows his material very well, and expects his students to as well. There are a lot of notes, but they follow the text book excatly. Hard marker, but it is fair, he expects you to know your stuff!
Doesn't hand back ANYTHING. On exams, he asks questions based on surveys that were very briefly mentioned and hard to find in the notes (not something you'd remember from studying). BEWARE: "test" = midterm. He doesn't explain anything unless you ask him about it extensively. There is a 10 page essay to do in this class. He will put you to sleep!
He's a great person, but he's not really clear on what he wants from his students. When he asks for your proposal and your documents he doesn't explain what he wants, so make sure you go talk to him about them personally or you'll probably end up with a 6/10
I have taken both Historical reactions and wrongful conviction hes a wonderful teacher and I have learned so much from his classes. He wants hus students to do well and gives them the chance. His work load is a lot but he always gives feed back and enough time to do a good job. Anyone who doe not like him or the class clearly does not go or try.
His intro class is very boring, it's easy to fall asleep. Just reads the slides he presents, nothing more unless a person asks a question. He knows what he is talking about and can answer questions. As you get into the upper years he is a much better prof.
He is a really good proff. He gives you a lot of minor assignments that are only about half a page. As long as you do them an A shouldn't be hard to get. I have just signed up for four more classes he is teaching.
This professor is too laid back. He does not give directions on how to do projects, which are worth a huge chunk of your marks. He doesn't give a rubric, he doesn't give any hint to what he's looking for. I don't think he cares much about student progress. He does love the topic of theory, and is an awesome guy, but gives no guideline to anything.
He is ridiculously knowledgeable about criminology and he even made theory interesting. I just didn't mesh well with his teaching style as he doesn't provide any structure or outline of what he expects. He tries too hard to be anti-conformist that it's off-putting. Anyway, if you need a lot of structure then don't take his class but he's good.
The Professor is laid back! He loves to teach and he loves to help students. He gives the chance to make all project "your own". He understands students are busy and does not put a lot on your shoulders. Taken every single class of his and love them all. Learning style is simple, if you show up to class.
McCormick has a lot of knowledge in relation to Criminology. All his classes are structured the same. However projects and exams are very unstructured and in some cases is a hard marker, his marks are always all over the place.
McCormick is a good prof, although his marking is all over the place. He gives you lots of opportunities for extra credit, but you need to do them if you want to do good in his class. His final project is creative, and lets you do your own thing. He also gives good feedback, but his lectures are hard to follow along and understand.
Quizs are so hard. He asks pointless questions like 'what year did Jones say this?'
Worst prof I've ever had. Marks WAY too hard. Annoying. Too much information on one test. Horrible class and prof. Don't take it.
Chris is a nice professor but he is a hard marker and doesn't explain anything. It is hard to get any information out of him in regards to exams, projects, etc. Although he leaves room to do what you wish with projects, he could be more specific and explain a little more.
This was hands down one of my hardest classes and I didn't even need it for my major. This professor does NOT explain a thing about what he wants, you literally have to just figure it out on your own , he is a VERY hard marker and if you skip class you are SCREWED, textbook is mandatory and he also does NOT review for the mid term or the exam.
Nice person, sure, but worst prof I've taken at STU hands down. People call him a "tough grader" but I wouldn't even describe him as such as he gives bad marks regardless of how well you do. His grading scale was bad and he marked things incorrectly. Really disappointed with him and this class as I had really enjoyed all crim at STU up until now.
This professor is wonderful! The class was very interesting, and used excellent examples of case studies and speakers in class as well. The work was fairly simple and straight forward, and that he is approachable whenever you need him.
Chris seems like a nice guy outside of class but I would not recommend him as a professor. He marks very hard and does not give a clear description of what he is expecting or good feedback. The textbook is difficult to understand and he lectures are not very clear. Only take his courses if you have no other choice.
This professor really understands that we are human. He is very accommodating if you just talk to him. Very understanding and funny to listen to during lecture. Every other class had a question to answer for marks so don't skip if you can help it. Overall would take his class again in a heartbeat
Chris is best described as a relaxed prof that is very flexible with deadlines and excuses for missing class.
Hard marker but if you put in the effort &show initiative he really tries to be fair & help boost your mark. He will also let you resubmit things and is really understanding if you can't complete an inclass assignment, or if you need an extension for the project/proposal. Overall a nice guy, but you cannot do the bare minimum & get higher than a C+
Loves using visuals in class, which makes it easier to grasp the concepts of the course. Very abstract approach, not always clear what he is looking for. He is pretty tough in his marking, but in general, he is pretty good.
Professor McCormick is one of the best at STU, very understanding and helpful in every aspect of teaching. You will learn some things in his class which will help you think critically and become a stronger student
Chris was so annoying, he would expect a page a week on a different topic and would change up the requriments without telling you and then lower your grade when you didnt do it. His material was very textbook based and confusing. Would not recommend seems like he also is stuck up
Crime and Deviance from a Historical Perspective is my first course with McCormick. Attitude wise, he seems caring and nice. My negatives are that he reviews content very fast. Not done the slide? Deal with it. Want to review them post-lecture? I refuse Moodle. Take pics to finish your notes in time? too bad. Paraphrasing notes will help you here.
Not sure if this is helpful, but he cancels class (generally without homework to replace our presence) at least once a week. This is nice as it gives you a lot of time to work on other subjects, but at the same time, he just crams all the info into the next class.
Cancelled class once a week and marks arbitrarily hard. Nice person, but really dry lecturer, and he lectures out of a 20yo text that's super dense to parse. He started the first day by dissing profs with long detailed syllabi - his is about three paragraphs total. Does not make his expectations clear and doesn't clarify at all if asked. Avoid.
No Moodle, cumulative final exam, little to no guidance on your final project, goes over content heavy slides very quickly... Participate in class if you want to boost your final mark by a full letter grade. He is nice and approachable, and the content can be interesting sometimes - he's just not great at teaching it in an engaging way.
he's a really good prof. his lectures are very heavy note based but if you go to class it's easy to get a good mark. he gives good feedback as well
McCormick is a great prof. He is very caring and understanding but if you don't like going to class, then he's not the prof for you. He's very lecture heavy and the slides are packed with information (i suggest taking pictures of the slides) and he goes through them fast. He is very compassionate about what he teaches and isn't a hard grader.
His lectures are very dry and very note-heavy. Sometimes the slides are hard to follow, and not always clear what info needs to be written down. Besides that, you can tell he is passionate about the topic and overall a nice guy. Frequently, there are in-class hand-ins to boost your mark. Would take a course of his again.
Chris is a very good prof. He is passionate about his areas of expertise and it shows. If you show up to class and participate, you will do well in his course.
