Great Teacher. That Brit knows more about America than most Americans!
Like he said its true
He has a concern for his students that goes on even after the class has finished. I highly recommend taking one of his courses. A great guy.

Great teacher. He's really enjoyable in his lectures and doesn't make the class boring. I recommend taking him for this course. The brit knows what hes doing!
The class is fairly easy if you do the reading and attend class. He makes politics actually somewhat interesting.
McDonald is interesting to say the least. He will most likely keep your attention which really helps. He is not easy, but if you actually want to get something from the class, I'd go with him.
Best teacher I've ever had. If you weren't interested in politics before, after you take his class you will be. You can tell he really loves teaching, I can't say enough good things about McDonald.
Probably one of the most helpfull prof. that i have had....very concered about students well being. The class can be difficult at time...this class is no cake walk but he makes the class very enjoyable and makes you want to learn.
I thought this class was very difficult. Notes were all over the board and were confusing. Tests were difficult. Nice guy but hard class. I wouldnt take him again
McDonald was a very good instructor. All of the notes you needed were on a powerpoint and I thought were easy to understand. My suggestion is to read the text. Without reading it harder to pass the class.
He was interesting at times. He showed his liberal bias with slanted videos. I gained nothing out of this class. He would just go off on tangents with his notes. They had no order.
Mcdonald was always very interesting and added humor to the classes I had with him. He grades more strictly than most of the Poli Sci teachers at LLCC, so if your lookin for an easy A hes not the right teacher, but hes awesome. If I werent going to a different college in the fall I would definetly look for a class of his to take.
I don?t know if he is as much of a radical anarcho-syndicalist as I am, but he sure is a snappy dresser even for a Brit. He?s probably the best teacher at LLCC and not only because he is the only other person at that school who has read Antonio Negri.
I don’t know if he is as much of a radical anarcho-syndicalist as I am, but he sure is a snappy dresser even for a Brit. He’s probably the best teacher at LLCC and not only because he is the only other person at that school who has read Antonio Negri.
Best teacher at LLCC! Into leftist politics, intelligent musicians and moving authors. Digs Liverpool FC and has a drinking game named after him. Compassionate and willing to do whatever it takes to understand the other side of politics!
Great teacher and your first thought is a Brit. teaching American Politics, but he is bar non the one of the best out there.
I can't say it's his fault for the difficulty of the class. I just hate government type classes so this class was very hard for me but he was a great teacher and tried to make it interesting and tried very hard to help me out.
Great teacher! Hot, he's got style, and he's interested in what he's teaching! He's very accessible and helps his students understand the material as best he can.
Prof. McDonald is a great teacher. He understands why the younger generation has a general apathy for politics, and he wants to change that by allowing his students to learn how the government works without any bias. The class does move fast and one can fa
Extremly hard class, but i could listen to him talk forever with that accent. Trys his best to explain politics to you. awesome guy and he has the best stories. tests werent too hard, you just gotta read the book.
This class will actually require thinking and work. As a bonus, the first thing McDonald does at the beginning of the year is get down on his knees and beg.
Great teacher, lost of insite
Chris is by far the coolest teacher I've ever had. I would highly recomend any of his classes to anyone.
awesome teacher
this is one of the best teachers i have ever had he is fun, willing to help outside of class, cool to talk to, will often side with a student over the school and will help students even if you arent in his class anymore
He is awesome!! Such a great teacher!!
he is a hardass in terms of quality he wants. But that is what is good about him you get a chance to get it to the high quality he is lookin for. His only downfall is he might get a lil into it and thus if your not on the same page its over your head. BUT thats ok cause he will make sure you get it. Basically dont screw him over and you'll do good
He is a great teacher, and he helps you get through the class, if asked. However, he gets easily distracted, yet he is one of the most passionate instructors that I know of, who LOVES his job, and has fun teaching. YOU will enjoy it much. But you must read the book.
McDonald is an awesome teacher, not to mention his accent is to die for. I came into his class knowing a little bit about political science from my family talking about government once and awhile, and found myself loving the class. As long as you work to succeed in his class, you'll make it.
Outstanding Prof!!!!!
GREAT TEACHER, VERY HELPFUL, understanding and listens, wants to hear the student's opinions and treats you like you matter. Great insight
I took McDonalds class for one reason. It was the irony of a Brit teaching American Politics! He is a fantastic person. His personality, style and cute little grin can make your day. The key to this class is READ THE BOOK.
im not sure if he hated my class or what but this man was terrible. mcdonald was very condesending and like to give off the impression that he was way better than us. it was one of the hardest classes i have ever taken. i am now a senior with a 3.74 gpa so its def not because i didnt work hard, he was simply a bad teacher!!!
This professors lectures are all over the place. If you are not interested in politics. Stay away. There are far easier grades to be earned for a class you are REQUIRED to take. Or take the online course for this class. Save yourself the boring lectures and just read the book as you are required to do so anyhow.
I also signed up with McDonald for the irony of being taught American Govt by a Brit. He had a fun sense of humor and made polisci interesting. He also made the importance of reading the book very clear by getting on his knees and begging us to read them! If you show effort and you are just shy of the next letter grade up, he will boost your grade.
Not sure what the last reviewer was smoking! This was not an easy class but McDonald is very interesting and very well organized. Grading returned quickly and he's always in his office to help. All handouts are on blackboard too. READING is important but lectures follow the topics and make them more understandable. THIS IS COLLEGE!
He's generally enthusiastic and always entertaining. Reminded me a lot of Monty Python but that's a good thing! Tests take a lot of time to prepare (the multiple choice study guide is a little vague) but overall it was a pretty enjoyable class. Great teacher!
Chris McDonald is by far my favorite professor by far. He has a great sense of humor, and knows what hes talking about. He is very helpful to all his students and allows input from anyone making his class not only fun, but also very educational.
What a great professor. Very easy class as long as you listen to his lectures and half heartedly write notes. Also this guy is very funny and British so it makes the class a little more enjoyable. In the beginning of the semester he gets on his knees and begs the class to read the book.(That which I did not but would recommend if you have trouble)!
LOVE this Professor!!! He makes politics fun and interesting, gets the entire class involved, cares about each individual student, and grades fairly. However, you do need to STUDY HARD for his tests. (And did I mention in IR there's zombies . . . )
I took an online class and he interacted with the students with videos.
My class was online but the prof interacted with us on a daily basis. Very available, very good instructor. My favorite class so far!
I absolutely love him! He is such a wonderful teacher, and definitely knows his stuff. I love his cute accent too, makes the class more fun. He is extremely helpful, and wants all his students to succeed. I would recommend him to anyone and I wish he taught more classes! You won't regret taking his class. His tests are pretty simple if you study.
Online. 2 posts to blackboard every other week. Blog on off weeks. Pre/post test weekly. Weekly reading in book. Weekly online q/a. Term paper. Mid term & Final are 100 mult choice no study guide and he gives you 10 essay q's to fill out and he picks 5. TOUGH GRADER!
He is a great teacher. He enjoys the subject and tests you on exactly what he teaches. He gives study guides with ALL the questions and essays on them so you know EXACTLY what to study so failing or doing poorly on a test is on you. He is approachable in his office hours and is a fun teacher to be around. He is real, what you see is what you get.
He is one of the best professors I've had. He is precise in his expectations, provides you with exactly what will be on the tests and expects you to simply show up and learn. He is always open during office hours and always tries to present all sides of an issue. In class he is very funny and energetic and just loves teaching the subject.
Took this class during an election. Made it a very easy semester!
In week 4. He gives a lot of work due every week. Essay paper due on top of all that. It is not clear what is on CH quiz each week. Study guides etc do not help. He puts things on the tests that are not in the chapter but he expects you to know because it is on the news I guess. I have a 4.0 GPA and have never done so bad in a class before.
Cannot say enough good things about him. Amazing professor. Sincerely welcomes ongoing communication from students. Easy to talk to and good sense of humor makes lectures awesome. Very little homework. Do read the book or at least do the online exercises or you will fall behind.
Amazing professor. Lectures are relevant and interesting. Responds to questions to help understand. I used to HATE politics and am so much more interested in it now. I wish I was staying at LLCC to take another of Chris' classes.
I took Intro to American Politics online with Chris. My biggest criticism is that some of the essay questions on the final exam were topics that weren't discussed in class, are not mentioned in the book, or mentioned in power points, that I could see. I had to do my own research prior to the final to answer the essays. Be prepared to work hard!
My favorite professor at LLCC hands down. I specifically took this class because he was teaching it. A really awesome and intelligent guy who cares about every student that steps into his classroom. I always highly recommend people take his classes.
Very good teacher. Has very interesting an engaging lessons. Power points easily explain the tough concepts. Make sure to do the learnsmarts, because they're free and easy points. Practice tests close a few hours before the class of the test, so don't wait until the last minute. The blog is easy and fun. But don't put it off completely. Manage time
This teacher is great. As long as you finish all assignments and study for tests, you'll be fine. The lectures may be long but he makes them very interesting! Along with that, he provides great fast feedback. I would recommend him!
He's British. Which means he has a cool accent. He also has nice hair. Negatives? There's a book, which means you need to read and do work. So unfair!
This course requires a lot of work, but this professor provides clear expectations from the beginning.
McDonald is awesome! I took his honors Political Science class and International Relations course. He's not the easiest of graders, but if you do the readings and pay attention in class it's a pretty easy class.
There's a lot of work involved. The discussion boards are lengthy and you will have to put a lot of work into those along with a election blog. But if you do all the work you'll probably get an A. For the two tests you essentially have the whole test bank to study with and know the possible essay questions before hand. The tests are on campus btw
The best professor I have ever had in a college course. Highly recommend.
If you have the chance take this professor's courses, but don't just sit there like a zombie...
Don't take this class if you are taking others. There is way too much work
Great guy, very passionate about his work, very knowledgeable, his chapter quizzes are online and unless he has changed it you can take the quiz 3 times, so its easy to get an A on those, expect to work hard on papers and his tests are multiple choice with some short answers and some essays, so expect a lot of writing and a lot of open discussion

This class is very time consuming. He takes this class very seriously and grades accordingly. You have weekly reading, learnsmart activities, homework, quizzes, and discussion boards/blogs. I feel he tries to go way to in depth and most of the class would miss even the basic understanding. By the end of the semester almost half the class had left.
I had Chris in my first year during the fall semester. And I truly think he is amazing. He is so good at what he does and he cares a lot. He is really funny and he is very caring if you need help he will help you. He takes what he says in a lecture very seriously, and the quizzes are very easy. But I would take his class again if I could.
You definitely have to have a lot of time to work, the grading is a little rough sometimes, but if you pay attention and do your discussions you'll do fine with him. Definitely a lot of writing.
He takes this class very seriously and some of the things he has us discuss don't show up in the reading.. he really wants you to be in depth with his class... I almost feel like he forgets that people are also taking other classes too. He seems like a nice guy and grades fairly.. you have to work for it though.
I began with Am-Gov and continued through IR & Theory just to keep taking his classes. Chris is a wellspring of knowledge, plus he wears almost as much black clothing as I do. Take his classes if you have the opportunity, but expect to put in heavy work. I'm a 4.0 student and he put me through the paces for my A in each class.
He's a great professor! Plus, he is British. There are weekly quizzes, so I would advise reading the book. If you have a question, he will always answer it in a way you would understand. I would HIGHLY recommend taking his class! You won't regret it.
This guy was awesome. He kept the class engaged and always tried to connect with his students. My personal favorite assignment was an analysis paper where the class was asked to go to an on campus political cartoon art exhibit and pick a piece to analyze. I would 100% recommend taking his class. One thing I will say is that it is reading heavy.
One of my favorite teachers! Very knowledgeable about the topic and it is easy to see that he cares both about the class and about us students. Very clear on requirements, Provides great feedback, and always happy to answer questions. He held multiple zoom meetings throughout the semester to help out, and seemed genuinely interested in discussions.
Chris is an excellent teacher. He is clear about what he expects and he makes you work hard for a good grade, however, he is fair and almost always available to help you. He really is one of my favorite teachers thus far. I would absolutely take his class again.
Professor McDonald is a great professor! Definitely be proactive in homework assignments, discussion posts, blogs, and quick quizzes. He gives multiple extra credit opportunities. This is a class you need to work hard in, but the hard work pays off!
Chris is a great Professor! Very clear on assignment instructions and gives great feedback. I was able to work ahead on the Quick Quizzes which helped lighten the load during the weekly modules. Gives extra credit opportunities. Fast grader. Very kind and knowledgeable!
Make sure you keep up with the reading. Lectures are also easier to participate in and understand if you have read. He responds to emails quickly, gives thorough feedback, and wants you to learn. You do have to work hard to get a good grade, but its doable. Just dont fall behind. He is super organized and wants you to succeed.
He is a FANTASTIC professor, arguably the best one I have had. His lectures are very interesting, and he actually cares about us as students and people. There is a blog assignment throughout the semester, and he lets you change the format if you want to in order to make the class fun. I hate politics, but I actually enjoy this class.
Chris is an amazing professor, and is extremely kind and caring. He wants all of his students to succeed. To do well in his online classes, participation in discussions matter, as well as reading the course material and watching lecture videos. His classwork is difficult, but I learned a lot from it. He is very wise and knowledgeable.
I love Chris! He always wants his students to succeed and it shows. Lots of reading, if you don't do it you won't know what you're doing. Use lots of evidence in your responses!!!!! Heavily discussion based as well. Take international relations (202) and model UN or as many of his classes as possible tbh. Lectures are also very interesting.
Top-notch professor! Very passionate about his work, provides clear grading criteria, good about responding to e-mails, very understanding and kind person; lectures are engaging. If you didn't care about/ outright hated politics beforehand, chances are you'll walk away with a newfound respect.
Very fun, wonderful guy.
Professor McDonald is one of the best professors I've had. There is an assignment, and quiz every week. He offers a heavy amount of EC compared to my other classes, and only requires an DB every other week. I think his assignments are fairly easy and his feedback is amazing. You can tell he cares about his students and their success. Def take it!
Professor McDonald is a very nice professor and answers emails quickly. The modules that he posts every week are a lot, which takes up a lot of time for your day. We only took 2 exams which are test questions you've seen before in all the modules. Overall a very great professor, just a lot of work so make sure you don't fall behind on assignments.
I have many positive things to say about Prof. McDonald! He truly cares about your education and learning. He answers emails quickly, sends out great reminders, & checks in often. I wasn't very knowledgeable of politics and he was very patient of the steps needed for me to learn. It's an easy A if you pay attention and ask for help when needed.
Chris was definitely a good professor to have. Although his class was difficult, I think that was just because of how I learn. The textbook is free and provided by him, and attendance is graded. The tests are difficult, but studying (which I did not do) will fix that.
Chris is the goat.
I don't agree with him on anything politically since he's a liberal and from my understanding likes socialism a bit but he's a good teacher.
Chris is by far the best professor I've had at LLCC. As a college now student, he was very understanding when I had to miss class for school events. Success in this class is very simple: TAKE THE PRACTICE QUIZZES! They'll save you! And just be prepared for the essay questions. I would 100% take Chris again and have recommended him to many friends.
just a great guy
