His test qustions tend to be bit on the obscure side and tend to focus on specific areas of his lecture only. Other than that I really had no problem with him--but I know a few did...
Dr. Moffat's lectures weren't as engaging as Carnal's. he lectures from his powerpoint notes and they're posted on blackboard before class, but he doesn't explain too well. you have to really focus. he's a nice guy though. his test questions are average.
Helpful powerpoint presentations. Funny and a nice person. Exam questions are not too bad.
Dr Moffatt is one of the best HumanPhysio Advisors, his lectures clear and engaging, his exams COMPLETELY FAIR, he is approachable , friendly and extremely helpful, I enjoy taking his classes no matter how challenging the subject is

Easy class. Attendance not that mandatory but it will boost ur grades. Quizzes and midterms are online. There's also a group project and an in class final exam. You can bring a page of notes on the final. All in all easy class but sometimes boring (he just reads his powerpoints).
great professor. lectures are clear, although you might want to record it since it's easy to miss a lot of the things he says which might not be found in the book. quizzes were relatively easy with 2 attempts.
This class was very interesting, even for someone who hates bio... like me! there is a lot to memorize, but he makes everything easier to remember.
Love him so much!!!!!
awsome
Awesome teacher!!! Practically a stress free course. 10test, 2midterms,1 group project, 2-5pg essays and a final, which are all online with the exception of the final. Very interesting topics on sexual identity, gender and behavior. Highly recommend taking Moffatt!! You will not be disappointed.
Really interesting and funny professor. I enjoyed this class A LOT!! And the class is relatively easy if you come to lecture.
The class overall was ok. A bit hard to attend every class since his teaching style was very repetitive. quizez are easy and you can take them as many times as you want. Final wasn't too hard.
signed up for a once a week class but it was changed without my knowing, the coordination of the online assignments and due dates was HORRIBLE! ilearn delete 25% of the midterms so we had to take them again. overall this class was frustrating. extremely hard topics, all really specific bio questions, easiest if you take with a friend
The professor is pretty funny. Learned a lot. Tons of material. Some of the emphasis on certain things helped me out. Probably something that the Prof. repeats is something you will need to know for a test, duh! I also thought this class was going to be once a week, but it was ok. Threw us a few curveballs, but overall a great Prof. Highly Recommen
Took online class. Records all of his lectures from MWF class, watch those. 2 point participation quiz after lectures, 10 diff 10-point quizzes, 2 midterms. All of these are online and can take several times to get good score, midterms can only take once. A lot of work, science based. 2 papers. Easy grader, final in person, cumulative, notes allowd
Took the online section. Watch his lectures online and you should be fine. He gives a lot of options to gain points and responds to emails pretty quickly. The class was overall easy and fun whether or not you liked the subject. I look forward to taking another class with him at some point. His lectures are interesting as well
Easiest, most interesting class on campus. His lectures are crystal clear, he's very attentive to questions, and the class is structured in a way that makes it almost impossible to not get an A.
Professor Moffatt is a clear and easy teacher. Everything he lectures about is in the lecture guide (all the powerpoint slides) which means all the notes are there for you and you just have to listen and take down anything else. That's a good thing. Highly recommend taking his classes.
Subject is somewhat hard to learn in 5 weeks, but Prof. Moffatt was very clear and lenient with grading. I read the text religiously but I really don't think it was necessary I just like the subject a lot.
Funny and genuinely friendly person, which makes going to lecture enjoyable even when the material for that day is boring. Very approachable and knowledgeable. Going to lecture (and paying attention) is the most helpful for getting an A. Plus, he's very attractive!
Quizzes and tests are all on ilearn. He also does attendance and pop quizzes via clicker in class. The final was extremly easy, he allowed a cheat sheet. Lectures are very engaging and easy to listen to. GREAT class.
I dunno what the ppl below me are talking about because taking the online class is waste of time and u dont learn anything. Its not too difficult but he does make the quizzes and midterms tricky and the final was kinda hard because its very detailed and he expects us to remember every detail. I wouldnt recom. him..he is very attractive though!
human sexuality was a very interesting subject, however the class is not that easy. you need to take very good notes on the lectures and the text book helps too. allows one page front and back of notes for the final. very nice guy.
Mr. Moffatt!!! His lectures are straight-forward and the exams are mostly based on them. Take good notes on class supplement, do well on ilearn quizzes, and you'll get a good grade! I thoroughly enjoyed his class! (We had an ex-professional dominatrix and an adult industry actress as guest speakers!) He was quite easy on the eyes as well! ;D
The class was overall interesting, more concentrated on the biology of sex. Prof Moffat is very passionate about what he teaches and is always willing to answer questions no matter how dumb they are. I recommend him, you can watch lectures online if you cant go to class. The $60 binder is too expensive and you need it to use as reference.
Bio330 : Interesting Class! every class builds on previous classes, so make sure you understand material and ask! Attend and watch the videos- Do not wait until last minute. Dude is very approachable, pleasant personality. Final is cumulative so no slacking! Can't stress the importance of keeping up with the lectures. Interesting & challenging gr8!
Took the online section of this class, didn't watch any of the lectures and still got a B. Buy the lecture guide and/or book, and you'll be fine. Midterms are all online so they're open book/note. Final was hard but if you do well throughout the semester it won't hurt you too much.
Excellent teacher! Got his online class; he gives a participation # every class to make sure you've seen the lecture. 3 in-class meetings: documentary, review, final. Very clear, thorough, great attitude and benign sense of humor about sex. Not profane at all. Multiple choice tests, 2 essays, & Latexhibition project. Some chances for extra credit.
EXCELLENT TEACHER! I took his online class and learned so much. One quiz every week, 2 midterms, 2 simple papers, one fun project and one big final. 2 required meetings, but i never attended them. He explains everything in great detail, always responds right away to any questions and tends to crack jokes here and there. I would def reccomend him!!
this is one of the smartest people i have ever met. i have no idea how he is able to retain so many facts, acronyms and studies. if you have a question, he will know the answer or look it up later. he keeps the class involved and makes it a lot of fun. take this class and actually go to it! it really get your mind going
VERY INTERESTING CLASS! learned so much. Very helpful, respectful, intellingent, professional, funny teacher. Easy A with broadening your mind about human body, life, people, and so on. Highly reccomended. ---Hot looking too! You will love the class!!!
i took the online class and prof moffatt is a very good teacher. Very knowledgeable and you can tell you loves to teach...bio isnt really my thing but i passed with an A- so that must say something lol i didn't watch the lectures online every class just before the tests and it worked for me
This was a really great class. Tests and quizzes were all online there was a 10 page term paper and not that much reading to do. He always answered questions in class and gave great explanations of the material. Overall one of the best classes I took this semester
330,621,622: the best prof at state! very fair, helpful, and knowledgeable. if you put in the work, you will get your A. print out the slides and take detailed notes. encourages questions and answers them in great detail. provides a stress-free learning environment. really cares about his students. overall: a stand-up guy!
Chris is a very knowledgeable instructor. I'm surprised how he can remember every single detail of the slides that he lectures. The lecture outline reader wasn't as helpful as I thought it would be, just print the slides and take notes during class. Tests are not easy. He does give extra credit.
brilliant professor who's wealth of knowledge is pretty astounding. on top of that, his lectures are generally interesting, he's an excellent speaker, and he's very friendly. wish he taught other undergrad courses.
He's an AMAZING professor. Took his class as a summer session and it was a breeze. He presents the material in a way where it is captivating and interesting. Highly recommend. Easy A if you pay attention to lecture.
If you aren't Biol major, please not take this class for SegIII. The intructor is a nice guy, but the work of the class is equal to 2 of my mayor classes. If you are ESL student, you need a big dictionary. You will see some new words that you might never use in your life. Copy lecture guide can save you $38. I regret to take the class, but I got A.
He is a biology genius. He literally will blow your mind with some of his comments about how we function as a animals when it comes to sex. He makes class so easy for people who do the work. If you take all the online midterms and quizzes and pass them, then you will know about 90% of the questions on the final ,Which is the majority of your grade
Really nice guy and the class is pretty easy. If you're taking it to learn about HUMAN sexuality then this might not be the class for you. I can't even count how many times he talked about other animals sexual characteristics (especially rats) and I had to scream at the computer screen "HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO HUMAN SEXUALITY WHATSOEVER!"
very nice and approachable professor. fair grader. dont need to use the text book at all. i recommend going to class and just recording his lectures and going over them. 2 midterms, 1 cumulative final, 1 paper, few clicker questions. definitely take the course. very interesting subject.
Also BIOL 642 and 330. Definitely one of the top 3 best biology profs I've ever had at SFSU. Extremely knowledgeable, well-spoken, and he makes his lectures interesting with his enthusiasm and sense of humor. Just pay attention and you'll do well. He is a fair grader who will throw out a Q if the majority of the class misses it. Highly reco
By far one of my favorite teachers and that means a lot since i was in the online section. He was always clear, a funny guy, a fair tester/ quizzer. TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN!!!!! well worth the work load.
He is by far one of the most superior professors that I have ever had! His teaching style is awesome. His knowledege is amazing and even in the online class he is engaging.I would recommend this class to everyone!!!
Very easy class. Multiple choice online exams except final, study with a friend, and pay attention to main points from experiments and pathways. He is helpful in office hours and really approachable, so GO! His lectures are like a conversational style, so it's easy to follow. Highly recommend this class!
Took it as a online class, very interesting informative class. He is a staightshooter, gets to the point. FINAL and all tests multiple choice if you pay attention to his lecture then you will do fine. Overall, great class and great teacher!
Best professor ever!! He is very knowledgable and knows how to explain it in a way where it's easy to understand. The information taught in Neural Systems Physiology definitely wasn't easy, but he helped make it more bearable. Definitely recommend him!!! Also took his BIOL 622 and BIOL 330. Got an A in all three classes!
This teacher knows his stuff. I had him for an online course and still he was able to provide great clarity on big assignments and gives you plenty of time and reminders of assignments due. There are lots of weekly readings they must be read in order to score the easy 2 pts. a week. OVerall great quality teacher
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! It is EXTREMELY hard! I don't know how it got an easy rating, the tests are impossible and he gives you no study guide and there isn't a real book. Maybe it would be easy if you have super extensive class notes, but if you don't and you try to look up answers online you're out of luck.
Online Course was well structured. Watch Videos- Take Quizzes. Read, Review Slides in course reader, Repeat. Tests were hard, 50+ wordy questions, 60 Mins, AH! Professor nows his material, welcomes questions, and is clear and straight forward. Will also do a few minimal word papers and a "poster" assignment, easy and fun. Recommend: Yes.
Although I took the in-class Human Sexuality lecture, there were many online portions. All tests/quizzes are online, except the final. It makes it easier to get a good grade if you are prepared, but they are timed. Attendance is graded using the Clicker. No textbook, just external reading and a lecture guide. Very interesting class!
This was one of my favorite online classes thus far in my college career. The class was well-organized and the online lectures were easy to watch. Moffatt's teaching style was clear and he responds fast to emails whenever you need help. Exams were fair & easy just as long as you watch his lectures. Easy writing assignments graded graciously.
Professor Moffat is a great professor and knows so much about what he is teaching. His online course consists of the recordings of his lectures for his regular MWF class followed by a short quiz of the lecture. The quizzes are online and opened note as well as the tests. Short assignments but they are also due online. Great Class.
Good professor. very interesting class and lectures.
Great teacher. Responds to emails quickly. Drops lowest test score. Buy the recommended book, it's got all the slides and write ups of each lecture topic. Do the easy papersassignments. The online class meets four times; 3 tests and a final. The tests all have online parts too. Seriously awesome class, just take it.
Interesting lectures often with relatable topics. He definitely kept me interested and got you to remember things without you even realizing it sometimes. I'd take the class again and would definitely prefer his teaching style.
I would encourage anyone to take his class. I don't even like science, but the first couple weeks, he really made the class interesting. If you do the basic work he gives, you will pass. Watch the lectures, take notes, understand the material & you will get an A. I didn't even keep up all the time, but if you take the time to study you'll be fine!
I loved Professor Moffatt! I was in a class of maybe 500 students or so, but he was always trying to connect with students in the audience, making sure we were all on the same page. Answers questions extremely well and sincerely wants the best for his students. Very personable and charismatic.
The lectures are this class's saving grace; the required reading, Bonk, is pretty funny as a bonus. Would recommend. Just do yourself a favor and don't slack on keeping up to date with the lectures if you're in the online sections.
I m taking this class for a GE requirement. So, taking it for c/nc. well, this is one of the best structured class I have taken so far at SFSU. There is something to do throughout the semester, to keeps us on track. The best part is, final is only 20% , which allows students to maintain their grade throughout the semester. A+ class.
Super straightforward class. Do all the work, and you'll pass with at least a B. The final is in class, allowed one double-sided page of notes. Keep up with the lectures. He's actually a great lecturer, and I never felt bored watching it from home.
Interesting class. He really loves what he's teaching. 3 online tests online 10 online quizzes. Take notes & study. There's writing assignments but they're pretty short and easy. Go to class and get your participation points. I would take another class with him.
3 online tests, 10 online quizzes, 1 final (taken in person/one double-sided page of notes). Takes notes and STUDY! You need to go to class to receive iClicker participation credit. If you do all the work and pass the tests with at least B's, you'll get an A in the class. Lectures are interesting, he's kind of funny and good-looking for his age.
I took him for Human Sexuality (Bio 330). The class was fun, he gives few assignments, weekly quizzes that can be done when they're opened until just before the final, and only three tests (and he only counts your 2 highest grades). He does give extra credit as well and lets you bring notes to the final. And no mid-term. 10/10 would take again.
Moffatt was by far one of my fav professors at State. His lectures are really interesting and you get to watch TED Talks & other videos about human sexuality. I thought the class would be awkward but he created an open environment to easily talk about the subject. (he's also Canadian :) lol) Would love to take him again if I ever get the chance!
You would think this class would be an easy A. 3 online MC tests, lowest test grade gets dropped. Easy hw assignments. Clicker questions every day for participation points, so go to class. An in-class MC final. The tests are actually a lot harder than you would think. Take detailed notes and have an excellent relationship with google.
The BEST professor I've ever had! I was never really the best at science courses, but he makes this one so enjoyable and not hard! 3 tests plus the final, drops your lowest test score, gives extra credit re-takes for each test, other extra credit opportunities, papers are easy, and he and the TA's aren't tough graders. TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM!
Moffatt was incredibly entertaining, I looked forward to his lectures. I learned a lot of useful and interesting information. He was incredibly helpful in preparing my class for the final and made the criteria very clear. Lectures Important + provided online. My advice: Try not to forget your iclicker, it's your participation.
Moffat is a lot of fun. I took the online version, which is a little more work than going to class. I had a 95% going into the final + extra credit. It's honestly an easy class if you've had some exposure to biol/edo. A lot of people who thought it was hard had no experience in hormone pathways so I think will make it more work so beware.
I personally really enjoyed his class. There were a couple lectures were it got boring but class overall was pretty easy. Exams and Quizzes are online. Offers extra credit for tests and class in general. Three papers but they are super easy. Everything is assigned on the first day of the semester so don't leave assignments till the last min.
Teaches off white board + slides. Attendance is required and you get points via iclicker questions. If you come in late and miss just 1 iclicker question you get 0 pts for the day. Some exam questions are the same as the ones on his online quizzes. Gives extra credit points to make up for missed questions on the exams by redoing the exam online.
Only a month in to the course, and I just love this professor. I am not a science person and had a bit of anxiety taking this course without any pre-requisites, but he is very clear about what you need to study for the exams and makes all of this content fun. I am taking this to fulfill my Lifelong Learning req and it is a truly valuable course.
Nicest professor I've taken at SFSU. REALLY cares about his students succeeding. His lectures are recorded and posted on iLearn (in case you miss a class). He's really clear about what it takes to get a good grade in his class, so you know where you're at through the semester. Also, just a NICE guy overall. Wish all professors were like Chris.
Professor Moffatt was very helpful in every way. He explains the material very clearly and gives great examples. By far one of the best instructors for this course. He is very knowledgable and really takes his time talking to his students during office hours. There is no textbook required, however there are weekly quizzes which are based on lecture
Moffatt is awesome. He is super down to earth, and very knowledgeable about human sexuality/biology. He breaks down complex subject matter so it's very understandable. He also makes himself very accessible outside of class as well-via email and in person. He is a very effective teacher-using diagrams/pictures/videos when necessary.
Very nice instructor but the class was a bit harder than I thought it would be. The test questions are based on lectures so you have to watch them. They can be pretty challenging and ask some really specific questions on hormones. Four tests, including the final. The lowest is dropped. You also have to write 4 really easy and short papers.
He tells you before something is due. Make sure you take notes from the lectures because they show up in the tests and quizzes. I am not a science major, but as long as you pay attention to the lectures and readings, you should do fine. There are 3 tests (lowest dropped)and one final. 4 short papers, a poster assignment, and "weekly" quizzes.
Really enjoyed his lectures. Moffatt does a great job of of lecturing and is very knowledgeable. He makes is lectures very simple and easy to understand, as long as you pay attention you can get an A.
His exams are not difficult but make sure to know the little details to the names of the hormones and to take really good notes. He's a great professor and absolutely loved his class and he is a very very kind professor.
Super chill professor, engaging lectures, you can tell he knows what he's talking about & that hes passionate about it. Exams are a bit hard but its what to be expected if you go to the lectures and actually pay attention. Take this class!
Took the online class and he posted 100% of all the quizzes/readings for the entire semester the first day which is great. Downside is that one might wait until the last minute to do them (me). He posts recordings of himself in his regular class and they're really clear and to the point. I'm not a bio major but his lectures really are interesting
Readings/reading quizzes. Lectures/lecture quizzes. 3 tests and a final. 2 attempts for quizzes. Lowest test dropped and all tests reopen to take for extra credit including the final. Tests have info from lectures/readings but final is lectures only. Wont be able to google test answers. Maybe Quizlet but if you read/watch lectures you will pass.
I thought the exams and quizzes were a little difficult (I am not a Bio major). All assignments are due on last day of class. He records lectures and posts it on iLearn. Thought I would have passes with a B at most but ended up getting an A. Pretty sure he grade your final grades based on effort and not the grades you get on exams and assignments.
Definitely the best biology professor I've had at SFSU so far. I'm currently taking his summer class and I find his online recorded lectures to be really informative, to the point, and I like that they're all broken up by topics. He's also just a really nice person and I feel comfortable coming to him for help. Would def take him again!
Dr. Moffatt is probably one of the best bio profs at state. He is extremely knowledgeable and breaks down difficult concepts well. The material was explained very well, but can be detailed (it is level 600 bio courses). Take good lecture notes, copy diagrams, go to office hours, ask ALL questions. He always listens to student feedback!
chris had really awesome and informative lectures. he was also really understanding, caring, and overall a very kind professor. he is easy to reach outside of class and offers extra credit. do the extra credit and all the assignments and youll get an A like me :)
Professor Moffat was honestly a great professor. Definitely recommend!
I had Chris and two other professors take turns teaching the course. Out of the three, he was my favorite. Awesome guy. Take his class you will love him!
Loved him and how he explains lectures! Would take him again and make it easy to understand everything going on in lectures! Four tests for the semester but if you go to lectures you will do amazing!
Dr. Moffatt is probably one of the best bio professors here! Lectures were fun to listen too and if he didn't know how to answer a students question, he would write it down and gives us an answer the following day. There would be quizzes after every lecture including, reflections. You can tell his passion for teaching is there, highly recommend!
Professor Moffat is a sweetheart. I look BIO 613 GWAR. He is very understanding and wants to best outcome for his students. He provides great feedback and it's flexible with deadlines. Lectures can be long but is extremely interesting and informative. Even though it's an online class, he shows enthusiasm and helps students complete their work.
Lots of writing and data collecting. Long lecture, but most of the time lets us go early so that we have more time to write and finish reports. Professor is nice and willing to answer questions, flexible with deadlines as long as they're reasonable. Pretty chill overall.
