Chris is an AWESOME prof, hands down. He gives you several practice quizzes and mocks, and some questions on the exams are pulled from those. His lectures are interesting, and the textbook is actually nice to read. There aren't any surprises on his exams if you do the readings and review lecture notes. And do SONA, it's worth it. Highly recommend!
Really fun and goofy prof. I promise you won't be bored. The course material is really interesting and he embellishes the lecture with his own personality. I loved the class. He's also really helpful and responds to emails promptly. Just make sure you do the little surveys before their deadlines because he makes no exceptions. Still, I had fun.
he talks forever about one thing and it makes the classes long and boring and sorta confusing. his cats are cute though.
Going to class isn't enough.. You have to read the textbook and do the mock midterms if you want a good grade.
Chris is a good teacher bc he tells you what you need to know for the midterms. He provides you with clear and specific review sheets (if it's not on the review sheet, you don't need to study it). His lectures are very boring though and he posts everything online so attendance isn't mandatory. However you MUST read the text if you want to pass!!
He's a funnyanimated guy and makes lectures somewhat interesting. Sometimes rewards you for going to class by providing info during lectures that aren't in his slides or the textbook. Tests you on both the textbook and his slides (which have differentadditional material) which means a lot more memorizing
He puts on a great class, however you'll be stunned when you get your exams. He's funny, clear, seems a little 'busy' when people ask for help
Loved his class. It was a lot of reading though and he probably didn't let us out more than 2-4 minutes early the whole semester. A lot of material to study, but the tests are straightforward if you've done the readings and taken good notes.
As a first year I was beyond terrified to start university and my first class ever was with Chris. He's an amazing prof who is always open to helping answer questions or clarify material. Pretty easy going guy too. If you have the chance I would totally recommend taking his class!
great! Cares about the success of his students. Fun prof.
He is very interactive with the class and a very approachable person. Excellent lectures, goes in depth into concepts so they are buried in your head.
Chris Motz is hands down the best prof Ive had at Carleton
amazing prof, super clear and concise
Very clear on each topic as well as an amazing lecturer. He's very good at interacting with students during the lectures and making them interesting.
Definitely my favourite prof by far, his lectures are so interesting and engaging. I love how he puts out study guides and gives an extra credit assignment. Highly recommend taking any class with him!!
Great prof, good sense of humour, textbook is pretty essential to the class though.
His lectures are great, he makes it worth coming to class! Tests are tough but if you attend class, do reading, make notes and STUDY you will do well! You could say tough but fair but in a sense he's not really tough and he's more than fair! I would recommend switching into his class if possible!
Chris was my professor for Abnormal Psychology and he definitely made the course 100 times better than it would have been. He does not want students to memorize; he truly wants his students to learn and become educated. This is evident through his exams and lecture structure. Definitely recommend!
It isn't mandatory to attend all lectures but I recommend you do so anyway. The guy is always full of energy and enthusiasm and it's impossible to fall asleep when he's talking. He will not waste your time, he explains everything clearly and his examples are always great. He sometimes tries too hard to be funny, but that only makes him more likable
Very great professor! :) I definately recommend taking any of his classes, his class made my day for sure! influenced me and made me more interested and fascinated in the topic of psychology.
He is truly passionate about psychology and makes learning first year PHSY really enjoyable and makes connections to situations students may be in now. He tells a lot of great storeies and likes to talk about his cat!
Thanks to him & his fun course I decided to take on Psychology as my major! :) He's very informative and delivers key notes and important information by repeating what he says but rephrasing it which is really helpful!! if you do the work then you'll get an A- (at least) :)
You could easily get by without going to any lectures but he makes them worth it.
I took an 8:30 class just to have this guy. He is hilarious and actually wants you to succeed.
great prof, makes lectures interesting. if you attend class and do the readings you'll do well.
I thought he was really good and then realized no matter how much you study you are destined to fail. Take Bruce Tsuji, I mean Chris is a great guy I'm sure and he really knows his stuff. He deserves his PhD but he should know that his first year undergrad students are fresh outta high school and need an "easier" midterm/final.
It is very easy to do well in his Intro Psych classes. His lectures are generally interesting and humorous and he uses videos to demonstrate the ideas he teaches. He definitely wants his students to succeed. Also, he offers extra credit.
Great professor, Interesting topics, knows how to get you engaged and interested in the topic. Definitely I would recommend taking this course with him.
Great professor! He is very clear in his lectures as well as entertaining, so if you need a prof that engages you in the material I would highly recommend taking his class. His tests do demand a high level of material retention so you will have to study if you want a good grade. I would absolutely go out of my way to take his class again.
His tests are painfully hard. Even if you study they are difficult to pass. Only way to get grades in this class is through tests so if tests are not your thing stay away from this course. Tests very wordy and complicated.
Great professor! He's passionate, funny, and makes lectures interesting. Can easily pass by either reading the textbook or attending lectures.
Very funny and captivating lectures. Breaks concepts down so they are easier to remember for the final exam.
Love Chris as a prof. I liked the idea of the Abnormal Psych class too. However, the textbook is a necessity to pass and it is a very LONG and boring textbook so it will take all your energy to even get through it. The tests were fair. Get ready to work hard and read ALOT in this class. Lectures were interesting as well!
Motz is always fun to watch, throwing in jokes to make class more bearable.
Difficult material, but Chris made it super fun and easy to understand. Going to class and doing the readings are not optional though, since the exams are pretty difficult. Overall, Chris is a really great prof!
Motz is a babe. His study guides outline what to study, what to focus on, what not to study, and he adds practice exams to boot.
Great teacher! Amazing lecture! Take his class if you have the opportunity he is amazing!
Chris is a great prof. He wants you to succeed. He outlines a study guide, practice exams and provides great detailed notes. If you don't do well in this course, it's only your lack of effort, he puts 100% of his effort in to help you.
Amazing lectures! Great teacher! Take his class if you have the opportunity he is amazing!
Motz is absolutely amazing! He makes all the information interesting and very easy to understand. He provides clear guidelines on the material that will be tested and spaces out midterms well so that you aren't stuck doing all 10 chapters at once. Definitely take this class.
Very hard, but can do well if you work for it, ie. study for tests and not be lazy. It is a really good class with him and I would highly suggest him as a professor. The exams are multiple choice and he gives exam review sheets outlining exactly what will be on the exams. He is hilarious, you will not regret taking his class.
Great Prof!
Amazing prof highly recommend
One (if not the) best prof I've had. Great teaching style and goes above and beyond when it comes to giving you exactly what you need to do well in the class (if you do bad it's all on you). 10/10 stars
Chris was fantastic... sometimes he got a but off topic but he's enthusiastic about what he's teaching and really cares about students. The exams are lecture and textbook material (some overlap) but he gives a study guide with everything you need to know. This class is an easy A if you put in the effort to read and attend class.
A little overrated. Not sure why everyone likes him so much. He's passionate about his work, yes, but it's difficult to understand him during lectures. Going to class isn't really necessary if you ask me. Just read the notes he gives you, and the textbook and you'll pass. He's a nice guy though.
cool guy
Okay so yes, he makes you work for a good grade, but honestly you aren't just left in the dark. Do the readings, review his lecture slides and look over the exam review and you'll have a pretty decently clear picture of what the exam is going to look like. Yes, his exams are hard, but you CAN do well. He's hilarious & very passionate.
Iv'e never actually thought to make my own review on a professor, but I came across Chris' name and just wanted to say he's amazing! I really enjoyed his teaching style he's funny and he actually cares about his students. I can't recommend him enough.
best prof i have had, keeps you interested in the lecture, all around funny, and cares about the success of his students!!!
He is an amazing teacher. He makes you work for it but at the end of the day he gives good advice and study skills to being a successful student in Uni. He is always keeps you awake, even if it's an 8.30 class. He is also very passionate about his work.
Chris Motz is an amazing prof! Some days the lectures can feel a little long, but for the most part he is very entertaining. I would highly recommend going to class because his slides, which he posts online, don't go into great detail but in class he provides very memorable and detailed examples that are easy to recall during test taking.
Be is simply AMAZING!
Lectures are really funny. He provides examples that are very detailed and understandable, so going to class is recommended.
LOVE HIM. Great course, he is hilarious and keeps lectures interesting. If you study, do your readings, and show up to class you will get a good mark. Theres two options to receive extra credit. I would highly recommend this proff. Made my 8:30's less horrible.
Great Prof, but get ready to read, his exams are 60% textbook and 40% lectures. If you study you will do well, hes a great lecturer and provides lots of good examples that help with writing the exams. All exams are multiple choice and he gets them back really fast
I'm not sure why everyone loves him so much. I found his exams to be extremely hard and his lectures don't correspond well with the exams. It almost feels like his lectures and the textbook are two different courses. Yes, he is a very nice and entertaining guy, but it's not worth it considering the difficulty of his exams (coming from an A student)
Funny guy.
I loved every minute of my lectures, really helped me get up at 8:30 am for the lecture.
He's alright. VERY animated. Tough markers. Midterms are 50-55 questions ALL multiple choice and very difficult and wordy. Focus on concepts and situations where they could appear in as there is no definition or easy questions. Final was 110, same format. Never again.
Honestly one of the best profs I've ever had. Learned a lot from him this semester, and he made getting up for an 8:30 class worth it. He's super funny! Managed to make potentially 'dry' material very interesting. Real gem & a cutie :)
Chris made attending an 8:30am class manageable! He is very clear about what the exam material covers and does everything he can to ensure you will pass the class. I would definitely recommend him!
Chris is a pretty good professor, however, I felt as if his lectures lost their sparkle by the end of the semester. Otherwise, he is a really caring guy and will lead you to the answer on a midterm or final because he wants you to succeed
An outstanding teacher who knows how to engage his students. Loves his subject. Spends coffee breaks rehearsing his lecture style and revising his pitch to students while pacing the walkways outside the classroom. Knows how to insert witticisms to get the attention of his class and relax them at the heavier moments. So dedicated I give him 100%
If you have a choice between profs.. ALWAYS CHOOSE MOTZ. He posts his lecture notes online so attendance isn't crucial. He posts a VERY detailed review for each exam telling you exactly what you need to know from the book, and from lectures. Make good review notes, do his practice quizzes and you're set for an easy A
He has very good lectures and will g the extra mile for students who need clarification. The midterms and finals are difficult, but if you do the readings and go to the lectures you will do well.
you will love going to class best psych prof in the world
Chris is an excellent prof! I found the presentation of his lectures to be very engaging however, content echoed that of the textbook. You don't NEED to go to lectures but it's helpful. He knows this and makes an effort to highlight things that will show up on test pieces (Wilhelm WUNDT!) Very fair tests and exams and passionate about what he does!
Great prof. Clearly is passionate about the material and it shows in the lectures. Fun and challenging class.
One of the best profs I've had. Very engaging.
Chris made psychology so easy to understand! He is very clear and uses real world examples. Also he always creates links between the lecture material and the students (he studied university students) and his tips really help improve the university experience. Everyone should take this course. He is truly a special prof
Really enjoyed coming to class :)
Great professor. Really enjoyed his class because he was silly and very passionate about psychology. Attending lectures are not mandatory because he explains the slides yet posts them online. He does go into detail with the slides in the lecture. Midterms and exams are 40% lecture and 60% textbook
An amazing teacher! Do the readings and just follow the study guide and you should be good.
Go Chris! Funniest, best prof ever. Take any class with him & you won't regret it! Really cares about students :)
Motz is simply a straight up good guy. You can tell he really wants all of his students to succeed. He provides tons of supplemental resources to compliment what he lectures about. He expects you to read quite a bit out of the textbook, but that is to be expected given the amount of content in the course.
He tried to make the classes funny knowing that the materials we were covering were dense. Every lecture had information you could not miss. You MUST read the textbook. You could tell he's one of those profs that has been at this for years and knew exactly how to teach and how hard he could make his students work.
Bloody Amazing!!!! 10/10 would reccomend
He's a pretty funny prof but not very nice to students especially outside of class, he's just awkward
Awesome prof, makes a lot of jokes. The course starts off very easy, but you will need to read the textbook. Midterms were very easy (I got 88 on the first and 96 on the second-not yet exam season). The course is very general itself, and the midterms are easy if you study (this is uni, you have to try).
Motz is a wild prof in a way that you would love! Although some of the material is hard he takes his time to explain things to you to ensure you understand the concepts as simple as possible. He makes his classes fun and interesting with his sense of humour.
Chris is pretty much fantastic. He teaches the material well, in a way that makes Psychology exciting and fresh. He doesn't assume that the students come in with prior knowledge, so every concept is explained from the ground up with hilarious examples and enthusiasm. He starts off each week with tips for success in university, which are helpful.
Good, caring prof, especially for first year. Makes material-heavy class fun and, if not easy, then definitely more understandable. Also pretty funny at times.
Take this course if you are really into psychology, otherwise don't take it for fun, you will fail.
Prof Motz has been one of my favourite profs so far. His lectures are very easy to follow and he is great at explaining concepts and giving examples. Very funny and likeable! You must do the readings out of the textbook and take notes during the lectures to fully understand the course material.
He is super enthusiastic and easy to listen to. Gives lots of pointers in class and provides study guides for the midterms and exams.
Chris is hands down one of my fav profs. Class isn't mandatory since he posts all of his slides online but it's worth going to class to hear his examples (going to class & reading the text got me a 100 on the first midterm while skipping class/not reading the text got me way less) and definitely read the textbook there will be exam questions on it.
Chris is an amazing prof. His lectures, though content heavy, are made fun and a bit easier to understand due to his thoroughness. You can tell he really cares about the success of his students. Overall, he's a pretty great guy and super approachable. Exam is 40% lecture, 60% textbook so definitely keep up with readings
Read the textbook and the lecute notes a lot for studying. Lots of tested material is textbook stuff or points on the slides. Motz himself is a nice dude, tries to be funny (sometimes he is), never intrudes on your time.
Such a nice guy + good prof! His passion translates into his teaching and that makes psych fun to learn.
All his lectures were entertaining, but he posted all his slides and didn't typically stray from them so attendance really isn't needed for success in the course. Material is really dry but he tries to make it as interesting as possible by including videos, activities, etc. Cares about the success of his students.
Chris really cares about his students and loves what he does. This shines through in his lectures. If you need help you know he will be there for you. If you fail this class, it is 100% by your own doing, if you put in the work, you will do well. His lectures are amazing and actually make you want to listen. HIGHLY recommend.
Chris is amazing! I've taken psyc before, but his EXAMPLES are what makes him one of the best psyc profs at Carleton! He gives you literally everything you need to succeed in his course, and you just have to put in the work. It IS a lot of work, but Chris makes sure that A+ is attainable if you pay attention and study hard :D
He is one of my fav profs. Rarely bored during the lectures that I attended and he knows what he's talking about. The problem I had is that there is a significant amount of material in the exams that aren't in the text, only mentioned in lecture. I definitely didn't go to enough lectures, so my grade suffered, although I can't blame him for that.
BEST PROF. Hilarious, sooo good at explaining concepts, very passionate about his students and what he teaches. Make sure you study lots for exams, he wants you to succeed but you need to know your stuff. He makes it easier though because everything is so thoroughly explained
CHRIS IS THE BEST PROF YOU'LL HAVE AT CARLETON. His teaching is great and he's really amazing at his job. His lectures are enjoyable. I've taken psychology with him twice now for psych1001 and psych1002 and wouldn't of wanted it any other way. I'm not a morning person and I even chose an 8:30 am class for him. He's amazing. He's even hilarious.
Okay so. My problem with Motz isnt even him as a prof, because hes a great teacher. Very enthusiastic and overall a fun time. My issue is the fact that his midterms and exams are... just something else. So unreasonably hard and tricky on purpose. LAZY/PROCRASTINATORS BEWARE: ONLY TAKE CHRIS IF YOU ARE DOWN TO ACTUALLY WORK.
10/10 lecturer; 10/10 organization; 10/10 study guide and test material; 10/10 enthusiasm for teaching and helping students; 9/10 fairness on tests (question wording). I did not inflate any of those grades - he is that good. He is the standard by which all teachers at Carleton should be compared to. Take him whenever you get the opportunity.
Chris really makes the content interesting and he cares about what he teaches. His exams are multiple choice and if you don't know your stuff... Goodluck. If you go to class and read the textbook you'll do fine. He is also really funny and explains the information clearly and in great depth.
my favourite prof
amazing prof, never dull.
Excellent professor, amazing lecturer. He clearly lays out the criteria for material which will be on his exams in his fantastic exam outlines/study guides - most profs don't do this! As long as you study using these you will get an A or higher in the class.
Chris is an amazing professor. However, his exams and midterms do not reflect his teaching and there are scenario based questions throughout the exam... so be ready to study application questions. His exams are 60% textbook and 40% lecture so be prepared to work! overall, decent professor.
Christopher Motz is a really nice person, it is obvious that he really cares for his students that being said I personally could not do well in his classes. that being said I could have made more of an effort to read the textbook and show up more often. The tests are also very wordy so do not let the multiple choice fool you.
Definitely take Chris as your psychology prof for first year! I had Chris for both PSYC1001 and PSYC1002, and I have to say he is EXACTLY how every prof should be - hilarious, gets straight to the point, elaborates on concepts he knows may be difficult to understand in the textbook, and starts his classes every day with daily tips for success.
Amazing prof! Gave very specific examples in class that resonated with me in the exam and helped me remember concepts better. Go to class and do majority of the readings (at least skim) and you'll do well. Midterm MC questions are long and sometimes difficult to get through but as long as you do the readings and go to class you'll be fine.
Great lectures, although attendance is non mandatory. You are tested on lecture information however so I recommend going. All tests are multiple choice and easy to do well on if you do your homework
Although Chris is funny and cares about his students, I found his lectures to be extremely dry and the exams to be very wordy. I would suggest a different prof for Psychology before recommending Chris.
Great guy with a lively personality. Heavy use of textbook and exams and midterms which are heavy with situational questions. All multiple choice. Lectures can be dry and includes a lot of material. Not necessary to go to class as he posts all his slides and even puts them into note form for you and only presents what's on the notes.
Gives students every single chance possible to succeed.
Prof Motz is hilarious, a passionate teacher and really cares about his students. I loved his lectures; he always gives specific examples and explains things clearly. Exams are hard and theres frequent readings, but he provides many chances to succeed. He is always available outside of class to answer questions. Overall, one of my favourite profs.
10/10
Read the textbook or you wont pass. His midterms and exams didnt reflect the course lectures at all. Also the wording on tests gets very confusing and three answers would be correct but he want which one is the most correct (usually difference by 1 word). His lectures were very dry most of the time and many students often fell asleep during it.
a funny guy knows his stuff. this course has a lot of content so don't judge on how much he covers in the lectures, he assumes you have them (cause you do) so you can just easily follow along
i loved Chris. Although he does give you his lecture notes, his lectures are filled with funny, enthusiastic examples so if you wanna understand better, go to class and sit near the front. The multiple choice tests are heavy , but if you keep up with readings, do his practice tests, check his study guide, you'll do fine, he wants you to succeed!
Great lecturer, funny, optimistic. Be ready for the exams though, knowing the material isnt enough. You have to be able to apply it in different situations. Exams are tough, but okay if you work hard.
literally one of the best profs ever. makes the material super clear and easy to understand
Chris is a great professor. You can tell by how he teaches that he is sincerely interested in the material and wants to share his knowledge. the course is 96% exam weighted but if you study you will do well. He makes class enjoyable with jokes and examples to further our education whilst also being entertaining. 10/10 would recommend.
Chris is really funny upbeat, unfortunately, the course is 96% exam based so people who don't test well are pretty much out of luck. If you don't read the textbook you definitely won't do as well as you want and the readings are long. Some of the material can get really boring so make sure to take it at a time you'll be able to stay awake
best prof ever!!
Chris was an awesome prof to have, and is a great guy to be teaching first year psych. He's very engaging during lectures and makes things interesting and funny! I loved going to my 8:30AM class just to listen to the lectures and to learn some very interesting stuff! I recommend Chris Motz to anyone and everyone
Great lectures, always hilarious but his exams are ridiculously hard.
Chris is the reason I switched my program to psychology from criminology. I love this guy!!
Such a great prof! I learned a lot, and am excited to have him again for 1002. Just beware, textbook readings and attending all lectures are mandatory, because his exams are 50/50 of each.
Good guy but he is extremely annoying. On all midterms and final exams puts so questions with content he never taught. His wording of questions are complicated and make no sense!
Chris is a great guy and definitely wants students to succeed. Lots of help at office hours. He is very enthusiastic when he teaches and definitely enjoys it. Sometimes he seems a bit over the top, but memorable. Tests are 96% of your mark, so reading is important: he covers 50% of exam material. Questions are often vague but that's just psych
Chris is super funny and makes lectures super entertaining! The only downside to his class is there are no assignments instead we are graded on 2 midterms and 1 final. His exams are fairly hard but I would for sure take his class again. Go to class and read the textbook and you will be golden
This guy loves to tell jokes, honestly a good guy but his midterms and final exam are extremely hard, and what makes them harder is the way he words his questions.
Loved his teaching style! Very charismatic and enthusiastic. Provides great examples to deepen understanding. Lecture slides were very comprehensible, however a lot of material is elaborated upon in class so showing up to the lectures is strongly recommended. Not all material is lecture based, so reading assigned textbook chapters is useful.
Chris Motz is great, his classes are usually really early in the morning which is difficult at times but I personally think his lectures are worth waking up that early for. When he tells you that his exams cover more textbook information than lectures he is not kidding. Overall I personally enjoyed psychology with Motz!
Chris Motz is one of the best profs at Carleton, for good reason. He is passionate in what he teaches and provides full understanding of what is taught. There is no room for favouritism in exams given they are multiple choice.
He really cares about his students. He tries his best to make classes funny and he also uses a ton of examples to make sure everybody understands the concepts.
Professor Motz is a fantastic Prof. Very passionate, funny, all around great.
Super caring guy who makes the learning easy to understand and memorable. You don't need to show up to class but you'll want to.
AMAZING TEACHER!!! super nice, super funny and very good at making things clear. You will only get graded on tests which seems hard however he provides reviews, practice workshops and practice exams for everyone. As long as you study the material you'll pass without a doubt.
Motz is literally one of the best human beings I know. He cares so much about the material and the students. He wants you to do well and all you have to do is read the chapters and pay attention in lecture. He is so organized and the class is structured so well plus his jokes are amusingly lame. HE GIVES AMAZING STUDY GUIDES! FILL. THEM. OUT.
Incredibly charismatic and a pleasure to listen to. He very effectively explains the relevant concepts. I personally didn't read the textbook, but most people probably should. His practice tests and quizzes, as well as his study guides, are lifesavers, use them.
Amazing prof. He is very detailed in his lectures and he makes it super interesting. Make sure to read the textbook because the midterms and exam contain lots of textbook material.
At my fourth year, he's still the best prof I've ever had at Carleton. Truly cares about education.
Chris is the best prof I've ever had, he cares so much about his students and provides every opportunity to help them succeed. If you go to class and read the textbook, then you'll be set for the exams. 2 midterms @ 24%, final @ 48, SONA studies worth 4%. Do the easy bonus4% assignment he gives! If you're taking psych, he's the prof to do it with!
Very caring prof but midterms and exams were fairly hard and I even did the reviews that were given
Here is Carletons best Psychology professor. He is very knowledgeable in the field and is extremely hilarious to the point where you ribs hurt from laughing at the end of the lecture. The syllabus for the class is the best youll come across. Grab him while you can, before the class is full up.
If you have a chance to take a class with Motz take it because he is very good, caring and nice teacher.
Very engaging prof with easy tests.
He's funny! A good prof to take a course with in the early morning :) I didn't particularly love his course, I found I couldn't retain much of what he taught. I felt like he was a bit all over the place. I did not use the textbook, though I probably should have. I got bored very easily. But he is passionate.
Chris makes it super clear what you need to do in order to succeed in his class. Go to lectures because he sometimes plays videos and mentions things that aren't in the textbook. Read the textbook and study the lectures and this class will be a breeze. Chris is a real gem and his class made learning psychology fun.
Amaaaazing prof. knows his stuff and communicates it well. One midterm and one exam all multiple choice. Clear grading criteria and fair questions if you study. Must read all chapters since exams are about 50% textbook material that is not covered in the lectures. Lectures are fun. Great prof for sure I would recommend!
He makes learning not so fun topics fun. He also repeats the same information 3 different times in 3 different ways to makes sure you really get it.
Chris is an excellent professor! He's extremely animated and makes 8:30am lectures very entertaining. Chris includes powerpoints and word documents for each lecture, as well as a mock midterm and mock final exam which is extremely helpful. Chris knows his stuff, and has a unique and fun way of teaching it.
Teaches well but not the most understanding person (for ex. after a heavy snow storm he got mad at students who were significantly late or didn't show up to his midterm at 8:30 and said "If I can get here on time, so can you"... Not everyone has access to a car.) Content is straightforward and exams are graded heavily.
I didn't like him at first because I found him really annoying. His examples are always so long and seem pointless, but it really helps you remember them! He gives you so many resources and opportunities for bonus marks. If you study hard and read the book you will do really well. His study guides are super detailed and he has practice quizzes.
A quirky prof but very passionate and dorky in the best way for a first year lecture course! Ensure to do all the readings and quiz yourself on the concepts in advance of multiple choice exams. Ensure to hand the paper in on time and make sure you're clear with the concepts he wants you to cover. Do all of the SONA studies and the extra credit!
Chris continues on all of the positive momentum he made in PSYC1001! Do all the readings, write the paper clearly and do the SONA studies/bonus assignment. The MEC screwed me over and had me write another section's midterm (even though the content was the same); Chris let me come in at my choice of time to rewrite his section's midterm, did great!
Loved Motz-fruitsations! He is so passionate about what he is teaching and wants all his students to succeed. I was bad and only went to one class for PSYC 1002 (not even exaggerating) but ended up with an A- in the course. I would recommend going to the lectures though! Love him and his class! Follow the textbook and you will do well
Even if you do everything required (watch lectures, do the readings, understand and memorize everything), you still somehow end up with a C/B. I literally did everything and studied all day everyday for this course, but he would make his questions purposely hard.
Chris is awesome, he tries his best to make this really hard class be fun and enjoyable. He cares about his students and wants what's best for them. But social psychology is really hard, and the lectures are so long.
Forewarning: I'm taking this class online because of COVID Prof. Motz is a great instructor. He's very passionate about what he does but his lectures are SO long. Last week we had a 17pt lecture, around 5hours in length - on top of the textbook reading, studying, and chapter quiz. But if I was going to watch anyone for 5hrs I'm glad it's him.
Nice guy. Long lectures, lots of readings and tests are so hard. So far the quizzes are fair but overall he makes tests so hard.
I personally was not a fan, but he isn't the worst. He's a really nice person, and the course is decently interesting, but it's a lot of work. His online lectures are WAY too long and repetitive, and the tests are harder then necessary but manageable.
Professor Motz is an upbeat, energetic professor. His lectures are very interesting and packed with information, but his tests and quizzes are the hardest things I've ever done. The wording of some of the questions on the quizzes and exams might make you have to read it about 7 times before you actually know what's going on.
Due to covid19, I have him as an online prof. His lectures are very long and rambly and too repetitive with his many many many examples. He is funny and does keep you engaged but the lectures don't need to be so long. Textbook is necessary for the quizzes and exams.
Teaches the Psych majors for a reason, he is a great prof and a great guy. Exams could be interpreted as hard, and to do well you have to ace all of them. Made a great adjustment to online learning, better than most profs during Covid.
Super niceguy. But the coursework is heavy. Expect 6-7 hours of material if you're watching the lectures and making detailed notes from the textbook. You will not pass without the textbook. Lectures can drone on for a little longer than hoped, but everything he says applies to coursework. Quizzes are tough, but you get 1 hour and 2 tries to nail it
By far the best professor I've had at Carleton. His lectures are very engaging, the content becomes easy to understand bc he gives plenty of examples. It's obvious that he cares a lot about his students' performance and is very willing to provide help when needed. The tests are only difficult if you don't watch the lectures fully, so it's necessary
He did a great job, even with the lectures being recorded (asynch class) they were still interesting! The lectures can sometimes be really long some weeks but they're usually not boring. I would love to have him if classes are ever in person again!
VERY textbook heavy! A great prof, very knowledgeable and caring, his lectures are long but he puts a lot of work into them. Definitely buy the textbook, do the readings every week, and take good notes!
Prof. Motz is a very caring and understanding prof. His lectures are on the longer side, but only because he provides many clear examples to help you better understand the material. Make sure to equally study both the textbook and lecture notes (take lots of notes). Overall, I really enjoyed his class and would take it again!
I loved how organized and comprehensive his class structure is. It was especially appreciated during this whole covid online class thing. He adapted really well and genuinely cares about his students. That being said, don't think you won't have to work hard for your grades though! You must definitely do your readings and lectures. Dad jokes are A1!
He is very passionate & his lectures are very detailed. However, he is very confident in the structure of his class despite the fact that students struggle with the structure. Not enough time given for MC exams, the questions are long paragraphs, & his online lectures are EXTREMELY long (some over 3 hrs). Very textbook heavy. Choose another class!
His online class was pretty hard if you're taking a 5 course workload. His lectures are way too long (one week was 6 hours!!) and yet you're still going to have to read the textbook if you're aiming to achieve a good grade. However, he is very caring, nice and fair.
Prof Motz is an amazing teacher. Yes, the exams are more textbook than lecture based (so definitely buy the textbook and take notes from it) but still go to class because he goes over psyc studies that will show up on exams. If you find the lectures too long, just watch it on 1.5-2x speed until he gets to something not in the textbook!
Such a good teacher. He makes his lectures interesting and was accommodating to his students during the pandemic.
His lectures are so fun to watch. Would love to be his student again next year!
An amazing prof! Despite class being online, he made lectures fun and engaging to watch. He is hilarious and really cares about his students. Powerpoints used are great and have great notes on them, and he does not just read off of them. He uses lots of extra examples for clarification. One of the best profs I've had! Tests are a bit hard though!
every question on midterms & exams is like an entire paragraph long, I won't ever take him again.
He's very quirky and extremely engaging in lectures. I would find it more enjoyable for an in-person class, but it didn't sit right with me in an online setting. Class was heavily based on midterms and an exam. You HAVE to read the textbook thoroughly in order to succeed. Overall average.
Motz was one of my favourite professors I had all year. The course was based on quizzes and tests but I found the quizzes to be more helpful than stressful. The one time I accidentally missed a quiz, I e-mailed him and he allowed me 2 more days to complete the quiz.
Lectures were fun to watch. I took two courses from him and both were interesting. Very accommodating and caring instructor. Adapted to the online classes extremely well. There were quite a few exams and quizzes (all open book) but the syllabus was distributed evenly so there weren't a lot of chapters to be prepared at once.
Though his prerecorded lectures are long, Motz's personality makes them engaging and actually somewhat entertaining. There is a quiz for every textbook chapter, two midterms and the final exam. Grades are always released quickly. Amazing prof, his class is just very textbook heavy.
Took psyc2100 in fall 2020, the lectures videos are quite long but very informative, textbook is very useful! He is knowledgeable and good at explaining stuff to students, very accessible outside of class. I emailed him about two concepts before midterm, he replied to me with like 800 words. Read book, watch lecture, take notes. He's the best
So sweet. Genuinely hilarious and makes the information interesting. Read the textbook if you can, it helps with tests.
Easily one of my favourite profs. Chris makes this course so easy to understand, he explains the course info clearly and concisely. His chapter quizzes are amazing, with no unnecessary tricks to throw you off! He makes a lot of jokes in his pre-recorded lectures which keeps them entertaining as well. I can't wait to take one of his courses again.
The quizzes are only worth 6% of your final grade (in total) and you have around 6-7 of them, while the midterms are worth around 20-25% each.... totally not proportionate. The exams are not easy, his questions are definitely too long for the 75 minutes that we have to answer all of his 50 questions (multiple choice exams). RUN AWAY
I do not recommend him (online). His questions are so long that you forget the beginning of it.
His lectures are very engaging and fun to watch, especially his weekly check in videos. There is a lot of reading and watching with the course being online but he understands the transition to university. Hes very helpful and responsive to students needing help and connective.
Prime example of what a teacher should be.
Crazy long lectures, up to 5 hours/week. He did break them up into 20ish minute chunks but still felt never-ending. Weekly quizzes based on textbook reading (only make up a small %). 2 midterms and an exam. Did pre-recorded lectures from the year before, which seemed kind of lazy.
Despite his long lectures and heavy chapter readings, he was a good prof. His quizzes/midterms/exam were long af however, each question is like an essay long. Hes very accessible outside of class and will reply to you within minutes, PASS and TA meetings were very helpful, especially during exam season. I love when he talks about his cats.
The best prof! He is the reason I switched my major to psychology. He is so passionate about everything he teaches and even makes it extra interesting with some jokes here and there. Read the textbook, it makes a huge difference in understanding the material. He responds to emails quickly too. Overall, great prof! I look forward to future classes!
Organized: he knows exactly what he's doing. He's also funny and casual. Overall nice guy. Division of content is clear and easy to follow. Textbook is important.
Good professor, good lecture videos that are interesting and engaging however quizzes/midterms&exams are very hard. Example focused, given specific scenarios that are difficult.
Hes very sweet and passionate about what hes teaching, which makes the lectures pretty interesting to watch. He designs the class so you have to read the textbook and watch lectures (cannot do one and not the other). He has 5 mc options instead of 4 like other profs and has added concepts in exams, making them a bit more difficult. Very nice!
- His PSYC 1001 class is an easy A/A+ if you watch the lectures and take good notes on the lectures (since his midterms and exams are 50% based on lecture content) - Lectures are engaging and quite fun since he actually doesn't straight read off a PowerPoint - Midterms and are easy if you understand how to apply the terminology to real scenarios.
I love his cats (they make surprise appearances in lectures). Class was awesome, he has great lectures because he loves psych so much. Textbook is definitely necessary (exams are 50% lecture, 50% textbook + weekly textbook-only quizzes). Tests are application-based, so more difficult. I really enjoyed having him as a prof, go for it!
Amazing guy and amazing cats. But in all seriousness, I don't think I would have been as interested in psychology if I had not taken this guy's class. My only regret is that I can't join pysc1002 for next semester because the class is filled up. Anyways, an important thing to rmr for this class is to review the textbook and lectures to do well.
Motz was one of my favourite profs this semester. He's super accessible outside of class, and always ready to help, even with stuff outside of the course. It was a bummer to have the class online though, I think he's much better suited for in person lectures because a lot of his questions come from basic discussions.
He is a fun person who definitely attempts to make lectures enjoyable but be ready to read a lot. This course was very test and quiz heavy, they were all multiple choice but the questions themselves are extremely long and situation based, i didn't enjoy the class but if you have a very deep understanding of the material you should do okay.
Professor Motz is a hilarious and very outgoing guy, his lectures are extremely engaging and funny. It's also clear he really cares about his students. Be ready to read A LOT. The material is extremely text book heavy and his lectures for each chapters are really long. Exams are also extremely hard and long too.
He does a really good job of explaining concepts and giving examples. It's clear that he cares about his students and is always willing to help out. I love the little jokes he has in his lectures and sometimes his cats are featured as well! Overall great prof, I definitely recommend taking one of his classes!
wrote me a long (23 page email) on feedback and resources for me to use in order to pass. was extremely helpful
Great guy, he made the online lectures really interesting. You need to spend a lot of time taking notes if you want to do well in the class, but the material is interesting and easy to understand. Not in my major but I am considering taking more of his courses.
super engaging lectures (had him for 1001 and 1002) and enjoyed them. he gave me pages and pages of tools, feedback, and tips to help me pass. he really cares about his student's success and it is so appreciated. 10/10 professor, whish there were more like you.
It's necessary to watch the lecs and read the textbook if you have Motz, since he pulls info from both. His questions are mostly real life application/scenario based so you have to understand the concepts. Overall, funny guy, passionate about his field, and super caring of his students. He's one of the profs that tries his best to make you succeed!
Chris Motz is one of my favourite profs this year. Hes funny, has interesting and engaging lectures, and has always been very understanding and kind when I have needed to contact him about issues or extensions. Highly recommend
Had for PSYC1001 & PSYC1002. He's a caring prof, and he tells you exactly what you need to know for the midterms, final exam, and quizzes. If you read the textbook and watch the lectures it's an easy A, just make sure you understand the content. Also like how the exams are divided as it not being cumulative takes a lot of stress off
Chris is a very nice professor and he spends a great deal of time in his lectures, his explanations and especially the examples he provides are very good for remembering concepts.
Chris is a really fun prof, who loves what he does! I'm not doing great in the class, but it has nothing to do with Chris, but the online format. Chris took the time to send me a very long email back addressing some concerns I had, which not a lot of profs would do. Wish I could have had him in an in-person class.
Great person but a horrible professor. Expects the students to know a lot of material. Final exams of 100 questions with not enough time. I would not recommend taking this professor for any classes however, he is a great person to guide you if you are following a psychology career path.
He has very interesting lectures. You will need to take good notes to do well on his midterms/exams. Make sure to really understand the definitions that he states, most of his questions are case questions where he gives you a diagnosis/case and you have to match with an answer. Exams/midterms are reasonable if you study.
If psychology is a domain that fascinates you, I think Motz could be a great professor to deepen your interest. However, his midterms/exams are considerably more difficult than your usual course, they rely heavily on context and your mastery of the material. If you don't do every single reading/lecture and don't study, you're done for.
He was AMAZING. I loved how he lectured and how he set up tests (he did two midterms worth 25% each and a final worth 40%). I also really liked the quizzes we had based off of the chapter reading. I really wanted to have him for second year psyc.
Chris Motz was by FAR the highlight of my year. Even though the course was delivered online and was asynchronous (sad), Chris poured his whole heart into making those lectures as entertaining as humanly possible. He finds clever ways to relate course content to the real world and crams in enough corny jokes (and cats!!!) to keep you entertained.
the lectures were extremely long and the exams were hard
It's so easy to tell that Prof. Motz cares about what he's teaching. He's enthusiastic, engaging, and as a bonus really understands how to make brightspace work for the course. His grading is exactly as he says: you'll get as much out of it as you put into it. If you're able to choose him I recommend you do :)
W Prof
Don't procrastinate in September
Chris is awesome! He is very well organized and is clear about how the semester will run. The course is quite reading heavy but if you keep up with the work it isn't too difficult. He posts exam study guides so that students can know what to expect going into them. I switched my class next semester so I'll have him again!
Easy A+ if you put in some effort, although in person means more work than online sections, his lectures are extremely enjoyable.
His lectures and slides are well structured and clear. Class was hard to stay engaged in but that might just have been due to it being at 8:30am lol. Exam and midterms are manageable if you study for them well, he also gives a study guide which is super helpful! GET THE TEXTBOOK! Most of the midterm and exam Qs are on textbook material!!
The content of this class is so interesting and Chris is such a great prof who makes the lectures engaging and fun! You have to read the textbook because you get tested on the chapters and that isn't something that Chris will go through in the lectures, and the exam is mainly application based, rather than just merely memorizing definitions.
Super engaging!
I had him for an early morning 3hr lecture and it got hard to focus by the end but he kept my attention surprisingly well. The lectures and textbook cover different things with some overlap and the material is fascinating (though I'm biased since I'm a psych major). You have to put in some work though, it's not a free credit like people think.
I just took this course as an eleclective. Very difficult content but Chis does a great job making it fun! My advice would be to read the textbook like no other and record the lectures. Every word he says and everything in the textbook is all gonna be on the exams.
3hr 8:30friday outstanding at keeping engagment.funny prof who could succeed as a standup comedian.lectures=long+info heavy.lots of experiments and ones he could do on us.hatred for length of class and stairs in Southam.Midterm + exam q's were difficult and apply (situations) rather than knowledge,I expected knowledge-based q's for a 1st yr course.
Professor Motz may have been caring but the entire course was extremely difficult to keep up with. His lectures were long, dull and boring. This course should have been based on papers instead of quizzes and exams.
Beware of his Cat t-shirts and his scarily accurate analogies.
Terrific lecturer and generally very helpful. Accessible outside of class and a really great guy. Super helpful, super engaging, a solid 10/10. Should share more videos of his cats though. Would appreciate that. chris if you are reading this i must see mingus the shoulder cat again
I seriously do not have enough good things to say about Chris. He is a phenomenal prof! Although 1st year psych is quite general, he makes them interesting and keeps the class engaged throughout lectures. Great with first years (I had him both 1001/1002) and everyone I know really enjoys him. Don't make a mistake and pick someone else! Take Chris!
I appreciated how the class was structured in terms of grades. Chris is awesome, provided a clear and useful study guide for all the midterms and the exam. Textbook won't feel like a waste of money since you end up reading pretty much all of it. Props for not making an 8:30am 3hr lecture horrible!
Chris is great at keeping a class engaged, but prepare to put lots of work in. Lectures are quite heavy, but he's not just reading content off of slides which is appreciated. He had me interested in psych at 8:30am, which isn't easy to do. Good at encouraging the class to participate. Content heavy but interesting, exams are hard but doable.
Great professor. It's clear that he cares and puts in a lot of effort in delivering course material and providing help to students. A lot of your success in the class depends on actually taking time to read the textbook material outside of class AND reading lecture slides, since exam questions will cover both. Also very cute cats!!!
Chris cares a lot about his students and puts a lot of effort into making his lectures fun and dynamic.
I LOVED this course and the prof so much. THAT SAID, the exams in Psychology are extreme. If you don't memorize every single word from the textbook and lectures, good luck. Though I did very well in this course, I still thought the exam questions were absurd half the time. Its not enough to memorize, you REALLY need a full grasp.
Chris is a great prof and really cares! Exams are hard, very application based, memorizing his slides is not enough to get by, so take good notes during lectures. AND BUY THE TEXTBOOK, he does not go over textbook material in class and the exams are about 50% of questions from the textbook. Hard class but so interesting and doable if you work hard!
Motz is organized, engaging, enthusiastic, and cares about students and their success Lots of textbook reading, but there are review quizzes to help prepare you for the big tests, and he made a study guide that shows what you won't need to know for the exams. The midterms/exams are difficult but if you know the material well you'll do great.
The best professor ever!
Chris is a very wonderful prof, he makes sure expectations and instructions are clear. There's 2 midterms and a final all multiple choice and as long as you do your readings and study it's not too difficult. Would 100% recommend him for first years in psych!
Chris Motz is one of my favourite professors so far at Carleton, would definitely recommend him for any first year student. Content is based off of lectures, chapter quizzes, a midterm and a final. His midterms and finals can be a bit tricky to understand but as long as you know the content your fine!
evil spawn do not take any of his classes unless you want to be psychologically tortured
Very engaging in lectures and good at explaining tough terms. The class in general has a lot of readings but its what you should expect for a psychology class. Additionally, midterms are difficult but there are no curve balls (its what was learned in class or textbook)
Chris was extremely knowledgeable and presented the content in an easy to understand way. He's super funny and energetic which made coming to class a lot easier. Definitely recommend!
Chris Motz was a great professor, I would definitely recommend him. I had him for PSYC 1001/1002 and loved both semesters with him, he gave a good introduction to what psychology is. He assigns quite a bit of reading from the textbook (around 30 pages a week). I liked his organization of the course and learning expectations.
I've had Motz for 3 different courses and he is amazing!! He explains things very in depth and gives study examples of topics he talks about. He is fun and very passionate, his lectures will keep you engaged. I talked to him 1 on 1 too and he is so nice! His tests and exams are hard but his classes are worth it, trust me.
He was a great teacher, very engaging and passionate. I found his class really interesting and his slides are super detailed. He elaborates on his slides and explains terms in many different ways which helps a lot.
Easily my favorite prof of the semester. Lectures were funny and engaging, and it's clear that he really cares about his students. However, you will not pass if you do not put in the effort. Read the textbook, attend the lectures, and make sure to study. There is a lot of content, but Chris makes it significantly more bearable.
If you read the textbook, take notes in lectures and study you'll do very well.
If your looking for a challenge, take this course.
One of the best! Chris puts so much effort into making his lecture funny, engaging, and understandable. Class is nearly all exams. Exams are multiple choice but can be difficult if you haven't extensively study. He does provide clear study guides though. Good amount of reading too. While this is a somewhat hard class, Chris makes it well worth it!
He was very engaging and I enjoyed his lectures
Great professor. Entertaining lectures, likes to make jokes and really cares about the subject he teaches. All lecture material was also posted online. Gives good exam review sheets, and the exams are very straightforward and easy.
The class was two midterms, a final exam, and small online chapter quizzes. No essays so this class was all memorization. Chris is very nice & funny and his lectures are entertaining but if you are talking during a lecture (even whispering) be prepared to get called out in front of everyone. Textbook is a must.
Easy to follow lectures and easy, mostly multiple choice exams.
christopher
I had him twice in the first year (now in the third year) and have been trying to get a class with him since. He is so kind & caring of his students. Cannot recommend him enough.
I like him
Took Psych1002 with Chris Motz and he was awesome. Such a good professor!
Was not a fan of Chris in first sem, but it took me awhile to realize he is really just prepping you academically. I found that after studying and taking his midterms/ finals that other classes seem like light work now. The way he makes questions improves your application based learning, and deepens knowledge further.
While he is funny, I did not find his lectures engaging at all. His exams are VERY hard, like you have to study or I promise you will fail. You have to read the textbook, and you have to follow his study guides to a T if you want 80+ on the exams. Make time to study. This class was just so much harder than any Psychology class ive ever taken.
Chris is genuinely one of the best teachers I've had in my entire life. He's so incredibly passionate, fun, and he makes even the slower parts of the course so much more enjoyable and interesting. He's awesome!
I loved taking class with Chris. The final brought my mark down by a little bit but it was on more content and trickier. He is super engaging and goes through studies to help you understand the theories. Lots of opportunities for marks through weekly quizzes and he is always looking out for your grade. Does go on tangents sometimes
Amazing professor, with very engaging and funny lectures that are set up for learning. Tests are based on textbook and lecture content, but are fair if you do all the readings and attend class. Be prepared for lots of memorization, but amazing lectures with concepts clearly explained in an engaging manner.
Best prof! Engaging, organized, funny, cares about student success. Tests balanced between lecture and textbook. Review quizzes help prepare for tests. He makes a study guide & example short answer questions so you know exactly what to study for. Tests are tough, you must really understand material, memorization won't suffice.
He was rude and disrespectful. When asking for guidance he would humiliate you. He is not afraid to make fun of you in front of everyone. His midterms and finals were super hard. Each question has 5 options without distinct differences and is not psych-related. If you want to do well, I don't recommend you take Psych 1002 or any of his classes.
Reading the textbook is highly encouraged as there are quizzes on each chapter, which helps you study. The textbook went more in-depth on the concepts that were discussed in the lectures. Definitely study the study guide Motz provides before each exam! This helped me to well in the course
Very nice but one of the most difficult markers and some of the hardest exams I"ve taken
Love the way he structures his classes. It's very easy to succeed if you just manage your time well (which I did not do very well this time around). Very similar to his intro to psych classes in terms of lecturing and grading style. Do the weekly quizzes, read the textbook, go to lectures and you will succeed!
Prof. Motz made the information clear especially for students who do not do too well in psych. If you want to ask questions make sure to do it after class as he can get a bit agitated if you interrupt his flow.
so nice!!!!!!!!!!!!
Took PSYC1001 with him and had to take 1002 with him too because his lectures are great! Definitely study for his exams because they aren't easy but all in all great prof that makes you want to come to class and learn.
Professor Motz is a good professor who is passionate about the subject he teaches. Course is very test heavy, would not recommend if you are not good at tests.
His class is so hard to understand. Material has so many examples it makes it so hard to grasp. I will never take this class again
Very fun professor who clearly enjoys teaching and interacting with his students. Online quizzes are generous and while the textbooks readings are long, they aren't the worst and midterms and exam isn't the worst either, overall great class!
. His lectures are engaging and interesting, and he's very considerate of his students' workloads. He gives thorough study guides, and he has all slides posted online. He's very expressive in the way he talks and I get that some ppl find it annoying, but i think that's what makes the lectures engaging in the first place. He's awesome!
Motz is super energetic and passionate during his lectures. Make sure to keep up with the textbook readings as his exams draw content from both lectures and the textbook. Be ready to study!
Professor Motz is not a good professor. He's a nice guy but as a professor I didn't like him. His lectures are extremely boring and long. There is lots of textbook reading, and it's so drawn out. There's 2 midterms and a final exam all multiple choice. Extremely difficult. I don't recommend if you're horrible about remembering stuff.
Professor Chris is the best professor I had in my first year, first semester, his lectures are very interesting, there is a textbook and you have to read each chapter and then do a Text book quiz but honestly the textbook quizzes are to ensure that you read the textbook because the uses lecture and textbook material in the exams 10/10 recommend
Buy the textbook- the quizzes are easy and based off of it as it's open book, he gives exam and midterm reviews with exactly what's on it. I forgot about a quiz and it was a week passed due and emailed him about it and he was kind and re-opened it for me. I was scared to take psyc/ really didn't want to but he kept lectures engaging w jokes+ video
do not take this class istg
Chris is SO knowledgeable and such a good lecturer, I honestly cannot recommend him enough, but you HAVE to put in the time and effort to succeed in his class. Follow his study guides, attend PASS, read the textbooks, show up to lectures and you will do well!! Such a fun guy who clearly cares about the content and his students:)
AWESOME prof! Lectures were posted, he has so much energy and passion, and his expectations for midterms/exams were fair. Would highly recommend taking the PASS mock exams! My study strat was making flashcards of the textbook while reading it + of the lecture slides and studying them all a few days before the exam. keep up with textbook readings.
Prof. Motz is a cartoon character. Very entertaining.
Gave very memorable examples, full slides online, and often finished early. There was always an info sheet of what would be covered on an exam. Overall, great professor! :)
Was awesome! Took him for PSYC1002 in 2022 Winter, and loved learning with him. I always had many questions, and he was more than eager to answer and help clarify my understandings! Loved his lectures too, he had awesome energy. And the cats. Love the cats!
Super friendly and could tell he had a passion for teaching! Midterm and Final were fair. Go to class though because he does explain a LOT in person
Very nice guy :-)
Retook this class to get a better grade this semester, paid more attention in lectures and read more of the textbook the second time around. Chris is an amazing prof and I will miss being in his class.
Super entertaining lectures, also puts the lectures online if you can't attend. Textbook was super great too and made learning psychology a lot easier :)
i had him 3 times for psyc1001,1002 and 2100. there is a lot of memorization involved and a lot of content. but hes super engaging, friendly and passionate abt what he does. the only reason why i would say its difficult is bc of the amount of content, and not everything he taught was of my interests. but still, probably one of the most nicest prof
Amazing professor honestly all other professors should learn to be more like him understanding compassionate and keeps his teaching engaging 10/10
its recommended to show up... he's awesome
I so wanted to love the class, but here was why I dropped it: he seems funny in lectures, but after speaking with him in office hours, he was rude, impatient, and let out a heavy sigh as I was leaving! Never have I encountered such blatant disregard for someone's feelings in an education setting. Unpleasant to say the least.
had him for psyc1001 and 1002 last year. great guy and amazing teacher. 2 midterms and a final + sona. exams are a little too difficult for a 1st year class imo, but sets you up well for future courses.
He is so kind and you can tell he genuinely cares about his students and their success. He sends weekly videos on how to excel in university to his students. He is funny and charismatic. The textbook can be boring, but the overall lecture material is interesting. He tries to make things as entertaining as he can.
Really enjoyed PSYC 1001 because of him! Charismatic in lectures and every week he'd send a tip for success in the term. Jokes in the class were funny and it seems that he really cares abt the subject which is nice. 10/10!!
He's a great professor, but the material is really heavy for 1st year students, especially the final exam when u have to remember 4 chapters; and it's based 50% on the lectures and 50% on the textbook
He is very charismatic and makes early lectures interesting. Exams are MC with a few SA questions based on the textbook and lecture material. Focuses on specific studies, which can make studying harder but helps with understanding concepts. Includes videos and visuals which makes it more interesting. Great prof who really cares about what he does
His lectures are very engaging, and enjoyable. He spreads out the evaluations out pretty well, you get 2 mid terms for the first half of the course, and a final for the other half. Really nice guy, one of not so many classes I actually wanted to go to.
Great person, as a prof he is funny, engaging and approachable. His lectures are thorough and somewhat easy to understand. The only downside is his tests/exams are difficult, hours of studying doesn't seem to help. Study hard for a mediocre grade
He is a very nice and funny prof. Exam was not cumulative and focused on the lectures and textbook. He explains things really well but does focus a lot on studies which can make studying a bit tough. Exams were fair that consist of mostly MC questions. If you understand the material and don't just memorize definitions, you will do really well.
Genuinely incredible professor! He is engaging and extremely funny. The course is definitely textbook heavy, but it's certainly manageable. Genuinely was the highlight of my week!
