he made biology wicked interesting ! like who knew that was possible
Professor Osovitz is the BEST biology professor EVER!! He is hot & funny!! I recommend his class 100%!!! He made Biology FUN! FUN!! FUN!!! Exams are straight from his lectures and the online quizzes are pretty easy if you pay attention during his lectures. TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO LEARN BIOLOGY THE EASY/INTERESTING/STRESS-FREE/HAPPY/FUN WAY!!!
LOOOOOOOOOVE HIM!!!! Can Biology be EVER this FUN??? :)
Love him!!! His teaching is terrific!!! Can biology be EVER this fun???! :) I highly recommend Dr. Osovitz!!! :) He rocks!!!
Really chill guy. Uses good analogies in his lectures and says some pretty funny stuff. Young and smart. Hard test questions but if you pay attention and do the occasional reading you will do well. I'm not a science guy but he made things as simple as possible for me.
Funny guy and super H O T. He made Biology fun, great stories and examples. He's only here because he loves teaching. Take this class!
Teachers like him are the reason I got into Biology. Young, funny, and best of all, interested in his field and able to provide multiple and sometimes hilarious personal accounts. Showing up to class and maybe reading through the power points once or twice should be enough to land a decent grade. He does a fairly decent curve.
lazy teacher, he doesnt help the students, and only occasionaly answers emails. Almost half the class failed the exam and he only curves test at end of semester so u dont know if ur gonna pass till end of class
The class was okay, it defiantly helps to go to class, study the notes AND read the parts of the chapters in the textbook that he went over in class. He said that the book goes into too much detail but sometimes details help. There is 4 exams & he dropped 1, same w/the quizzes that are due every week online, there is 11 & he drops the lowest
Tests are application of knowledge, no memorization. The book questions and slides will prepare you for the exams, he gives a pretty big curve also. Good professor, very helpful, and funny too. Attending class helps out a lot also, his tests are multiple choice with short answer but be prepared for his exams, they are no walk in the park.
Osovitz overall was a good teacher. He keeps lectures easy to understand but when it comes test time it seems that he pulls the questions from no where. It's not a memorization class, you have to apply what you learned in class and use information learned to help you answer the questions. He is there for help and does curve the tests.
For this intro course, his main goal is to make students be able to use science in their daily lives. Nice guy. Somewhat interesting lectures. Lecture notes posted online. Tests try to test the application of concepts, but are a little difficult. Would recommend.
Osovitz is a FANTASTIC teacher. To be honest, I did not do so well in his class. His tests are no joke. Do not take them lightly. He loves his job though and you can tell. It is quite interesting. If you don't plan on studying a lot, I would advise you to go to class because he covers a substantial amount of information in the short period of time
Dr. Osovitz does a good job lecturing and is very willing to explain himself during class and office hours. The problem is his exams: they are difficult as answers may sound similar and he advocates "application" questions(he requires critical thinking and actual knowledge). His lectures are much more vital than the book. Curved the final grade.
Dr. Osovitz is a great lecturer. He's super hot too!! His exams cover 12 chapters at a time usually, but if you attend lecture and read all of his powerpoints and the chapters you will do well. I attended most of his lectures and got a B. He is also ALWAYS available for extra help during office hours. Love him!
Follow the lectures and you should do fine. If you have questions or don't understand, feel free to ask. He's not intimidating or looking to fail you. His tests are based on application, so you won't breeze through.
Dr. Osovitz is extremely pleasant. He speaks with a lot of hand movements which can be distracting at times. Otherwise, everything on the tests are on the online assignments and in the powerpoints. He is very approachable.
BEST teacher at USF. :) Go to all the lectures- he takes clicker attendance and his test questions are based on lecture/slides and NOT the book. He is very interesting, funny, and helpful. His test questions are based on application (meaning you got to know your stuff), but I got the hang of it after the first test. Some people might find him hard.
He's a good teacher, you gotta go to the lectures and listen though. I've never even looked at the book and I have a pretty good grade in the class. He is pretty fun and makes the class intersting.
Dr. Osovitz! You are just AWESOME!! Just FABULOUS!!! Taking your Introduction To Biology class (for non-majors), actually made me realize that I DO LOVE BIOLOGY! And I've changed my major to BIOLOGY!! I hope I will get you as my professor in the coming years! You ROCK!! I love you, Dr. Osovitz!!! :)
He has definitely been my favorite teacher at USF, so far. The lectures are always interesting because he is quirky and very funny. However, the tests can be quite difficult and require a lot of studying. I would definitely recommend attending lecture; he takes attendance through clickers and gives points for clicker questions.
Great class! He is so humorous and tries to keep only information that you need to know. Tests are harder than you'd expect, but if you study you should do well. Get to skip the final if you do well on the other exams because he drops the lowest exam. Lab was boring but the attendance points help quite a bit.
I loved this class :) Lectures were fun, and the tests are hard like everyone says there are...hardly used book because Osovitz would incorporate bits and pieces of the book in the lecture slides you can print out. Hw can help your grade if you take your time to do it, please dont rush!
Omg! I have a crush on him! MAJOR-HOTTIE-ALERT!! I love his class!! He is the BEST BIOLOGY PROFESSOR EVER!
I hate biology but he actually made it very interesting and clear so I didnt fall asleep in class. 4 tests, only 3 count. VERY HARD however. Even if you think you studied enough, he asks the questions in a way that confuse you. Uses clickers for attendance and participation which help boost grade. Also lab attendance/participation/hw helps grade.
My favorite teacher at USF! He was funny and interesting. I learned a lot from his class and his lecture notes are easy to follow. His tests are challenging becasue you can't memorize the info, you have to understand the concepts. But you only have to take 3 out of 4 exams, but he curves all of the exams. Take him if you can :)!
Interesting class, but VERY hard tests. Did not use the book at all. Just studied his hw, quiz, and clicker questions, as well as powerpoints. Nice guy, tries to keep things funny and interesting. His tests were mainly hard because they had some crazy off the wall concept questions that were tricky. Read carefully and study hard!
The exams are difficult, but that's only because he does not take the material directly from the textbook. Overall, a very nice guy who tries to be relateable. Very passable class if you put in the effort.
Makes his lectures interesting and funny, and is very helpful. The class is really easy as long as you attend, because most of the test is based off specific things said in the lectures and on the slides. You can drop one exam grade and there is weekly homework on blackboard.
Pretty straightforward. Don't need the hard copy book if you have the online thing for the homework. Just buy the internet book. He always asks if anyone has any questions, and I always wanted to say "What are you doing Friday night?"
I really enjoyed the class. He explains things in ways that make sense, not all scientific and incomprehensible. Whenever I e-mailed or talked to him, he actually helped. I definitely recommend attending class since his exams only consist of what he mentions during the lecture. I never opened the textbook except for help with the online quizzes.
very dry humor but hilarious
Great professor, he makes lectures interesting. If you show up to class, you don't even need to use the text book.
He is aweosme. Super funny even if its alittle dry and I think hes really cute. Go to lecture since thats where the test comes from. Book only used for online homework.
Awesome professor. I hate Biology but he made it very interesting and fun, and I found myself actually looking forward to his class. Definitely recommended.
GREAT GREAT GREAT teacher! His lecture classes are clicker classes and mandatory, but he makes his classes super fun and easy to sit through. I did not mind going to this class at all, even looked forward to it sometimes! If you're not good with biology you'll need to study but with his lectures and the TA sessions its really not hard to get an A!
Only science class I have ever taken that I hated.
I manage to get a C+ in the class and I missed homeworks and got D's on all my exams. As long as you go to class and do the clicker and go to your lab you will be able to pass this class. Dr Osovitz is a very funny professor, he does weird dances and all kinds of strange things. If you arent good at science take this class for your FKL!
This guy is amazing! He makes class fun and exciting. Also probably one of the funniest people I have ever met. Class is pretty easy, you have to study a little bit but as long as you pay attention in class, you will be fine.
Osovitz is a great lecturer. At times it does get a bit dull with all the information, but even if you pay the littlest attention you should do fine. Highly recommend taking this class before Psych Science @ USF. He goes over some things near the end that will assist with the beginning of Psych.
Took him for bio 2 and marine bio. GREAT professor!!! go to class, pay attention, do the homework. Very helpful, fun and entertaining. He finds ways for you to be interactive in learning outside the class. Tests can be tough cuz they are not straight forward, he makes you think. Overall, I love him. Definitely take him if you have the chance.
Dr O is the MAN!He will do goofy dances and all you have to do to get an "A" is go to class, do your homework, and study some.
He's really a down to earth professor and really great at what he does. He answers any questions you have. SUPER FUNNY!!! Honestly his class was so good it made me considering change majors just so I could take more of his classes. Best professor I have taken. High recommended.
I love Dr. Osovitz!!! He made biology fun. If you need a basic biology course, take his. You won't regret it.
Dr. Osovitz is an amazing professor!! He makes class sooo much fun which makes you want to go!! His test are a little difficult, but if you pay attention to what he focuses on you should do fine! I got an A and I enjoyed the class so much!! He has been my favorite professor and my favorite class that I ever took!! Also hes really really cute!! :D
This prof was awesome to the fullest not only did he make class super interesting but also made me want to go to a 9am class and learn bio of all things. If u have a choice take his class his test are some what difficult but if you do ur work and put an effort in it is an easy B
Dr.O won an award for being an "outstanding" teacher today in class, given by the department. He is very knowledgable, interesting, and the class is fun. Little homework, tests are a little difficult but he has reviews, never need the book. Take this class!!!!!!!!!! What everyone else said is RIGHT.! :)
Best professor Ive had in my 4 years at USF. His lectures are funny and really interesting. Was never a big science fan, but he makes this class very enjoyable and easy.
MUST go to lectures to do well on his tests!
One of the funniest professors I've had. He makes things relate-able in an interesting or funny way. Lectures aren't mandatory but you do need to go to get clicker points. If you pay attention in lecture you'll do real well.
Great Professor!!! I was not looking forward to biology class, but now I'm so glad I took it. Definitely my favorite class so far. Exams aren't too hard and you get two chances on the homeworks. He is really funny and smart! He does everything he can to make class fun!
Osovitz is a great professor. He is very thorough in his explanations and not at all boring. You MUST attend lectures to do well on exams!! Also he asks clicker questions which are about 12% of your grade. Drops lowest exam grade, so if you do well on first 3 exams you don't have to take the final.
Awesome, funny, and interesting teacher. Take this class for an easy science credit. You have to go to class for the clicker points and to understand the material for the tests, and do ALL the online hw. I kept missing clicker points and hw and ended with a B- instead of an A+
Best instructor I've had yet! He explains everything in a very amusing way, sometimes with interpretive dancing. I've always made an effort to show up to his class especially because I love it so much. Be sure to read and understand the material. Class mandatory (clickers), online hw (super easy, practice)
Without a doubt, I would say that Dr.O is one of the best professors USF has to offer. He knows and enjoys the material. It's nice to see a professor enjoy what he's teaching. He's hilarious as well, which is always awesome. Anyways to keep it short: Bio II - pay attention in class, do the HW, you'll get an A. Very fair tests, but conceptual. GL!
Great professor that makes the class enjoyable. Clicker questions and hw to boost grades. Exams are somewhat difficult as they are based on application. "which is BEST answer". Not an easy A, but not impossible. Exams could be easier to test the knowledge of material rather than opinion questions. Nice guy, and extremely funny!!
Awesome teacher but don't underestimate his tests!!! QUITE HARD! There's a lot of info to know, but he seems to make the tests quite complicated either way in the way that he words them. So know your stuff and don't over think. Other than that he was awesome and is really helpful if you take the time to go to his office hours.
He is a very funny professor. He is always making everyone laugh, so at least he keeps the class interesting. His test do require quite a bit of studying, but if you do you should be fine.
Dr. Osovitz is very funny, he makes class so interesting. One day he even taught with an interpretive dance. The tests can be somewhat hard. I would suggest studying hard. He gives 4 clicker questions each class to help you stay engaged.
Attendance is mandatory which is childish. Final grade dropped from C+ to D+ because of clicker attendance. I thought this was college where if you do not show up for class, it is not a big deal. Tests are oddly worded and very tricky. He will make the simplest concepts seem so difficult on exams. Take him if you're a bio guru and never miss class.
Took Bio 2 with him in the spring, he is a nice funny guy..But his tests are HARDDD!!! Do not take him.. I studied so hard for all the tests.I'm an A student, but his tests are ridiculous. The questions are "which is the BEST answer" type questions. Ended up with a C+ in his class.. he doesn't curve, the average was a C-.
I was told to take Dr. O for this class and I wish I didn't. His test questions are very vague and it's usually a pick the best answer type of question, making it more difficult. He isn't very organized, didn't seem to keen on talking after class either. Overall he is fairly lazy and I wouldn't recommend taking him at all.
Dr. Osovitz is a good professor. He keeps his classes very engaging. To those below complaining about having to attend class, etc. The attendance policy is clearly stated in the syllabus. This is college. His exams test the application of concepts, not merely the regurgitation of information. Take this class if you want to understand what you learn
I highly recommend taking any biology class with Dr.O.
He is a cool teacher to listen too. I took this class thinking it would be easy. I have a 3.8 and I got my first F on a test ever in his class. Along with all my friends. His tests are HARD and like all the answers are right but you just have to pick the best answer. There is only 50 questions but the test is 250 points. He needs to change
3 exams, clicker points, lab attendance, lecture attendance, and homework (w/ 2 chances). I really enjoyed his lectures. I wouldn't get the textbook; everything on the exam is on the powerpoints/said in lecture. I got a B and didn't study much for the exams, just listened in class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Great teacher. I loved him! He teaches very well and he jokes around with the class. Everything about the class is easy except the exams. They're a lot harder than expected but as long as you attend class and study it's not very hard.
Most entertaining professor I've ever had. He is really funny. I had to study a lot for his tests, but you can drop one, so that's helpful. I'd definitely recommend him for a science class if you need one.
Dr.O is an awesome professor!I fell in love with why I'm a bio major in the first place while taking Dr.O's Marine bio class. He's very knowledgable, humorous, and helpful.Tests were not too bad if you went to class and read over the power points and your notes. Lots of opprotunities for extra credit. Take him!
I loved this professor! He went through the power points like probably all Bio Professors but he took his time to alter details and explain things. He was extremely fair on almost anything. He was really funny and made class enjoyable to go to. His tests were large concepts and not small details.
To be fair, he sometimes had good explanations about his lecture slides but the majority of the time he just told dumb jokes. Do not expect an A in his class because for the most part but his tests are conceptual and hard. Not an easy and he isn't very helpful outside of class either.
Great Professor. Lectures are very clear and interesting as he incorporates jokes and stories. However, his exams are very challenging with lots of tricky questions about the material. Class attendance is very important as he gives clicker questions that is around 12% of the final grade. I highly recommend this professor.
Dr. O is the second best option for biology 2nd, Dr. Franck would be the 1st, and Dr. Begin would be the last. Dr. O is a very good lecturer. All of his test are fair except the second one on taxonomy. Other bio2 teachers split that section into two test but Dr. O does not. Also don't expect him to reply to your emails no matter how important.
He is very opinionated and will often ask test questions with multiple correct answers. If you don't think like him, you probably won't get an A in the course. He goes through a useless "critical thinking" section the first day and puts these irrelevant questions on the test. You must memorize everything about everything ever for the second test.
This class was more difficult than it had to be. His lectures are very interesting and he is a funny guy, but don't be fooled because his tests are tricky as hell. Some of the answers to his test questions still make no sense to me to this day. Cool guy, but definitely not an easy A.
Dr. O is a good professor; however, his class is extremely difficult. His test are difficult and very tricky, his test question could have multiple correct answers. Extra help outside of class is almost impossible he cancels office hours a lot. You have to think just like him in order to get a good grade in his class. I would not recommend him.
The material is easy. If you make notecards of his powerpoint and reinforce those ideas by reading about them in the book, you will understand and know everything. However, his class is more about passing his exams rather than the material. His test questions are tricky. You have to think like him to pass. Which I don't think is fair.
His lectures are always really interesting, and he's pretty funny. All of the other assignments are really simple, but the tests are not. He really tries to trick you with the questions. Even if you study a lot, some are going to trick you up if yo don't think just like him. iClickers are used for attendance and hw is online.
I really enjoyed his lectures. He made the material very interesting and explained concepts pretty clearly. The tests are very tricky though. Even if you know 100% of the material, expect to get a B on the exams because of trick questions. He isn't very accesible for help and cancels office hours a lot. Overall though, I enjoyed going to class.
Amazing Lectures, but they are required, you will not get an A or B if you don't show up. He gives clicker points that are for credit, but they are similar to exam questions so you can practice. His exams are tough, I read the lecture slides and chapter text for 15 hours for each exam. I got an A so thats what I guess thats what I recommend
I always found his lectures interesting, and he really does know a lot about the topic. The first and last test were really simple, but those in between are a bit tougher. His tests can be tricky, but if you read the book, attend class, and do the homework, they aren't horrible. He uses Clicker questions for attendance, so don't skip.
Love Dr. Osovitz. Take him for Bio II. I actually enjoyed attending his lectures. He's very laid back and presents the material in an easy to understand, fun manner. If you go to lecture and pay attention (not hard) you will get an A in his class.
Granted Dr. O is pretty funny his tests are no joke. They are quite tricky even though theyre open-book. The homework is easy to complete as the answers are word for word from the textbook. Take this professor if have to do BIO! He provides one opportunity throughout the semester for extra credit, take it. Overall, not that bad of a class for bio.
He's a really awesome proff. Exams are 5 Q multiple choice, some short answer and some long response. He likes essay style questions because that way he can see the most popular answers and base the exam "A" on that; he basically likes to give away points. He's also really funny and lectures are never boring. The attached lab is not easy though.
He was a pretty good professor. His lectures are helpful and he posts everything online. There are 3 online homeworks due each week. The discussion portion is a joke. The class seems as though it would be really easy, but he makes the tests really tricky. There's usually 5 answer choices, with all of the above an option. Attendance is mandatory.
The classes are some what interesting. Just make sure you pay attention because the tests are really tough. Don't let the name "Bio for Non Majors" trick you. There are clicker points each class and a mandatory peer leading session once a week (I missed one and it dropped my grade almost a full letter grade).
This professor is the best one I've had so far in my opinion. He is wonderful at capturing your attention so you want to learn. He teaches some HIGHLY interesting material. Beware, exams are pretty rough though. Many trick questions. You can eliminate it down to the two best ones but one is from the material and one is his opinion. Highly recommend
Not a fan of biology but I always looked forward to this class!(BSC1005) He makes it clear that he truly enjoys teaching this class (fav class to teach) & is always open to answer questions or concerns you may have. He's hilarious which makes learning bio 10x easier, attendance is important bc there are clicker questions throughout each lecture.
He's a great professor! Funny, easy, and takes many test questions from the iclickers. He uses the iclicker every class. The discussion class with the TAs are mostly pointless.
Overall great professor he knows what he's doing. Homework and quizzes are super easy. Tests on the other hand are tricky. Maybe b/c I'm a business major but if you hate biology his tests won't be easy. He has tests reviews, which aren't useful, he misses 1/2 the test material. I failed all my tests and still got the C- i needed. Plus? maybe.
Dr Osovitz is a really funny guy but don't underestimate his tests!! He likes to keep it mainly multiple choice but the throws in some short answer questions! He gives an extra credit assignment that adds 1% to your overall grade. Take him if you can :)
I really enjoyed taking a class with Dr Osovitz. He's a really funny guy which keeps you engaged in the learning material. He really wants to see his students do well. But the tests are what you put into it. If you study the clickers, learning objectives, and powerpoints you will do just fine on his tests. Definitely would take him again.
This is the best teacher in the Biology Department. He gives great lectures with super helpful powerpoints (know them). The tests are reasonable. Come to class or you will lose iClicker points every day. I learned a lot during the course. His examples and iClickers were crammed full of information that was useful on the exams. No tricks here.
Dr. O is absolutely amazing, very knowledgeable and makes the lectures very interesting. Lots of clicker questions in class which are similar to exam questions. 3 exams & 1 final (drops the lowest grade) + clicker questions + homework quizzes. If you go in every lecture and learn his objectives, youll do just fine.
This was my favorite class in four years. Its really interesting and he makes the lectures really fun because he's hilarious. Its a tough class and his tests are not easy, but I would 100% take him again and would recommend this class.
Seriously loved this guy! He made biology interesting for me, and he has such a funny dry sense of humor. I actually looked forward to coming to his classes because they were so chill. Make sure you attend to get clicker points! The exams can be tricky, but if you study both the notes AND the book material, you will be fine. Would take again!!
Hilarious professor. I am not that interested in general biology so this class was a little tough for me. His tests are worded a little weird, but if you study the power points it shouldn't be too hard.
I honestly hate science, however I took biological principles for non-majors with him and I'm so glad he was my professor. he has clicker questions every class and homework often, but its good to have that fluff. taking notes isn't 100% necessary he gives you the powerpoint. it was challenging but not impossible. love u dr o
Dr. O was the funniest professor I ever had. He's such a gem. He always wears flip flops and eats during lecture. He has about 15 clickers every class and the tests require a lot of critical thinking but nothing horrible.
The funniest professor I've ever had, his lectures are fun to attend. There is a decent amount of homework but it isn't too hard and gives opportunities for learning. The exams can be tricky but if you study the learning objectives and the powerpoints it should be no prob
Insanely difficult tests. However, his tests will prepare you for the mcat because they make you think like none other. He has a ton of hw which can be a pain to keep track of. However they are extremely easy. Must go to class! He does clickers each class and they are for a grade. However you will never be bored in his lecture. He is super funny!
Such a good professor. Funny and cares about his students. His class is engaging, tons of clicker points so be there. His tests are passable as long as keep up and study like 30 minutes a day. Never got lower than a B on a test. I highly recommend him.
I can honestly say he is a very hard professor. Only reason I gave him a 2/5 is because he is funny and keeps lectures interesting. However his tests are the end of your grade. Do NOT take his class if you want to get an A. FYI he will NOT CURVE even if you are .1 points away from the next letter grade. Save yourself and choose someone else....
Hes a very funny professor but if you dont want your GPA to drop DO NOT TAKE HIM! He provides learning objectives for the exams but those arent enough. His test are very tricky the class average was always a 72 that alone tells u everything. He doesnt ask you for definitions on exams his exams are truly concept based. I regret taking him !
Tests are beyond fair and I would even rate them as pretty darn easy! I recommend him 100%, and yes he does round your grade if you are close to the next highest grade!
His tests are so specific to only his train of thought. This class is a lot of memorization so there is not much the professor can do but tell you what the test will be on and being able to know the information and pass is up to how well you study. Even with memorizing everything he will make it so everything you worked for wasn't enough.
The best professor I've ever had! His lectures are so interesting and he's really funny. As long as you pay attention in class and study a little before the exams, you'll be fine. Definitely recommend!
Professor Osovitz is amazing! Tests are beyond fair if you atleast re-read the notes, if you don't then it simply means you're the lazy one. If you are close to the next letter grade he definitely will round up for you if you ask nicely and you have a good reason for it :). I highly recommend taking his class!!!!
I absolutely love this professor. He is one of the best at explaining the material while keeping you focused and alert. His tests can get challenging because he really wants you to understand the material, not just know it. I find it fun to study for this class, having such a great professor.
Awesome professor with a great sense of humor, BUT his exams are tough. You HAVE to be able to apply every little concept. If it weren't for the homework quizzes I probably wouldn't have passed the class. My advice to you; read the text to better understand concepts!!
Dr. O is an amazing professor who is definitely passionate about Biology and makes a lot of relatable comparisons, which I thought made the class easier. He gives hints during lectures as to what he likes to test on and you'll almost always see iclicker questions on the exams. Basically, go to class and do the easy homework and you'll be fine!
Great professor. He is very funny. His exams are based on what his learning objectives are in class and his lectures. Just go to class and you should be fine. The exams weren't too difficult, they were straightforward with no trick questions. Sometimes he will also give freebies and tell you exactly what the questions will be like.
Dr. Osovitz is by far my favorite professor at USF. I took him for Bio 2 and loved his lectures and how he taught the class. I went to office hours every chance I could and you can tell he really cares about his students and their success. While his tests are more difficult, he prepares you. His physio class was the same way. Take him if you can!
Dr. O is a great lecturer. He is obviously interested in the material and makes it fun for you. The clicker questions are very similar to exam questions. You don't need the book. The learning objectives and clickers are best for exam study. 4 exams, 1 drop (final required), clickers and canvas quizzes (2 attempts each). Good material
Attendance is necessary only to get clicker points but you don't really need to pay attention otherwise. The lectures are pretty interesting though so it's not hard.
He's a very humorous guy. Lectures are available online. For each topic, he gives learning objectives. Exam questions are based off of these objectives he provides.
Professor Osovitz really cares about the things he's teaching. Down to Earth, funny guy. Heavy on the clicker points. Labs are pretty chill and easy.
He is very hilarious, and laid back. The lectures are informative and the exams are mainly based on this and the clicker points. There are bi-weekly quizzes for each section that can be taken through purchasing the online access. The exams are tough but really if you come to class and pay attention and take extra notes it's not that hard at all.
Mr. O is a great professor! Very enthusiastic about his lectures, you must attend class he has clicker questions every lecture. I suggest you meet him during office hours to review exams because the final is all of the exams combined and he does drop one test grade.
Dr. O is so funny & genuinely a great guy. However, his tests are so hard! There are 4 tests which count for 60%- so study hard & ask a lot of questions. Go to his office hours & go over the objectives before every test if you can! Also, be ready for the most boring discussion group with the TAs. Its an hour per week youll never get back.
Professor O was one of the best professors I have had at USF. His tests were based on the presentations and readings in class and not the online homework. He tries and makes the class relevant for Non-Bio students which makes the class really interesting.
Dr. O is my all time favorite professor. I honestly hate science and took this class because I had to, but I LOVED it. He is super funny but also really good at teaching the material. He makes all of the information useful and relates it to your everyday life and to current events. I never do these reviews but he's worth it.
Dr. O cares about what he teaches. If you're lost, go to him for help because he will. All clickers are on quizlet. Exams are pretty easy but I was studying for MCAT and it was basically a review. Great for premeds because he will teach you the same as your MCAT book and it's more interesting. HW was easy. Then again, I had an A+ so what do I know?
If you skip this class you will not understand what is going on. Attend lecture (you won't regret it, because he's fun) and study hard for exams. Exams and a zillion clicker questions are a big part of your grade.
His lectures are hilarious and so is he. I take him for marine bio and i have a lot of fun in that class. His tests are pretty hard though and you need to really know how everything connects as whole to do good in them. Theyre also 75% of your grade. Otherwise 10/10
I have taken Dr. O for multiple courses and always enjoy his teachings. He is passionate, informative, and ready to answer any and all questions. His exams are a bit tough as they are conceptual questions not always directly from the powerpoints. He has clicker points every class so don't plan on skipping. I would take Dr. O again.
I took Dr. O for Biology 2 and absolutely adored him. I loved this class up until the fourth week, that's when the tests starting getting RIDICULOUSLY hard. I have A's in every other science class except this one. His questions are extremely unclear and are trick questions. The learning objectives are vague and unhelpful. I have studied everything
I loved Dr. O and the content of this class. However, his tests are IMPOSSIBLE. The learning objectives do not help even if you do them five times over. Final exam was extremely difficult and tested on very minor details of the course. I am doing well in the class, but these are the hardest tests I've ever taken.
Dr. O is an extremely funny guy and his lectures are phenomenal, BUT the tests are SO hard. One of the hardest science classes I have taken not because of the content but in the way he asks his questions. No curves, and clicker points are for accuracy so make sure you show up.
I got a B by watching the lecture recordings close to exam time so the material was fresh in my head. Textbook is not necessary. Lectures follow the learning objectives so they prepare you well for exams. Exams are tricky and require critical thinking, but they resemble the clicker questions which is helpful. Dr O is smart, entertaining, & fun.
Exams were difficult no matter how long you studied for. Comes off as nice but had little sympathy to students struggling with the class especially during a pandemic. Don't take this class if you care about your gpa.
if you care about your gpa don't take this class with him. does not care and is not understanding whatsoever. honestly the only professor i've ever had throughout all of uni that was so non-understanding or accomodating
Zoo3205c -If you care about your grades at all, DO NOT TAKE HIM! He does not care. There are times where he won't respond to emails or will tell you he doesn't have time to help you. His grading isn't clear - you could have answers that he gave you for exams and still get a bad grade. How does that make sense!? Just save yourself the headache ...
DR. O IS SO GREAT!! He's the only professor I ENJOY listening to. pay attention to the clicker questions! I don't know anyone who used the textbook. you will not regret choosing him as a professor.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. He disguises himself to be funny to negate the fact that he is the most confusing professor on the planet AND he does not care about your outside conflicts at all. Not accessible, & cancels office hours. He is not direct with answers to questions and the test are not on what he lectures in class.
It sucks because there are no other prof. options. He makes you read 20-30 paged papers before every class and the questions are entirely theoretical. just deduction bs, cant apply processes. I love science but this is one of the bio classes that are unnecessarily overkill. The course is on crack for no reason even though its just evolution -_-
I really enjoy class with Dr. O! I wish he gave out study guides for the exam, but other than that his content is engaging and I really like him as a professor.
Dr.O is an excellent lecturer who offers 1% extra credit, but his quizzes are challenging if you don't attend class. Reading long articles before class isn't worth many clicker points. Despite this, attending class allowed me to get a B with mi l studying for the exam.
By far the best professor I have ever had I could not recommend this man enough he is truly inspired and in being so he inspires you.
all this time i thought a dropped exam would be fine and that my worst exam can be replaced with the final. he never mentioned that the final would be 50 questions and graded out of 30 like the other exams. Tell me how the entire class got a 9/30 average on the final... wow what a waste of time i shouldve spent on other classes that really mattered
Nice guy but speeds through the lectures. Too many clicker questions and exams are SO hard. Majority of the questions are theoretical, vague, and are far more advanced than the concepts he covers in the lecture.
His lectures are very comprehensive so unless you need the extra help you don't really need the textbook. I also like the way he does clickers in that it helps you connect the material and check your understanding (and you still get credit for just answering), and he drops an exam. Relatively easy class and definitely one of my favorite professors.
Dr. Osovitz's lectures prepares you for the test. He includes basic questions and test level questions in the slides, so you know what you're dealing with. The textbook is a good aid if you are struggling, but it is not needed to succeed. He's good about answering questions in class, and his TA offered test review that counted as extra credit.
If you care about your grades at all, do not take anything with Mr.O. Although the material is not too difficult, the tests are impossible and Mr.O lacks the ability to recognize that a D average on every test is a MAJOR problem. He does not curve tests like other biology professors and does not attempt to make tests easier for his failing students
I took this class after taking physiology with Dr. O and I enjoyed it just as much, it's a great class if you love sci-fi movies and enjoy discussing their scientific plausibility. We spent 3 lectures on each film for a total of 7 films throughout the semester and also did individual film analyses and student film projects. 10/10 would recommend
Super horrible course would put in hours of studying to average out to a 60 on the exams no matter how hard you study you get a terrible grade because it is all critical thinking
Dr. O seems like a good person outside of class and gives interesting lectures that keep your attention. Tests are worth 70% of your grade so if you are bad at test taking this is not the professor for you. Test questions are worded in a way that does not make sense even if you know the material. There are better professors for biodiversity.
I have never had a C in a course and I somehow managed to accomplish that here. Most of the material I had to teach myself and there's way too many pages you have to read with way too much information. Good luck on the tests cause he words them like riddles. Not to mentioned he messed up TWO exams grades which made my grade drop both times. Crazy.
My first C. There were 3 different times that he had problems with test grades which is what your grade rides on. The tests are totally different from the lectures. He teaches way too fast + doesn't provide lecture notes before class. I get like 2 sentences down from each slide before he moves onto the next. Funny guy but there are better profs.
Dr. O's class is pretty engaging, though the exams can be quite challenging. I found Unstuck study and the free textbook helpful for reinforcing the material. Overall, it's a solid class if you stay on top of things.
Dr. O's lectures are heavy and he covers a lot really quickly but lecture recordings are posted immediately after class so you can go back and take notes on your own time. Exams are hard but if you put in the time studying it is possible to get an A. Really helpful and nice if you see him during office hours too. Would definitely take him again
Best professor I've had yet. Just do the bare minimum. Attend lecture, listen for a bit (he doesn't make it hard he's pretty entertaining and funny), and study an hour or two before the exam. He makes it really easy to pass if you just put some effort and gives ample extra credit in the form of free questions on exams. Definitely recommend!
He is very funny and interesting and I enjoyed taking his class, however, the exams were a bit difficult. Not the type of class to last minute study. Exams are graded out of 30 points. There are articles u have to read before class and does grade iclicker questions in the beginning of class. Take advantage of the exam reviews and office hours.
Dr.O is an amazing teacher, the class is heavy for sure but he is fun and cares about the students. Attendance not mandatory but some days he takes clicker questions and quizzes.
Amazing professor. Takes time to grade assignments/exams, wants to help. The course is definitely a lot of info but interesting class.
wouldn't recommend. content is useful but exams are very difficult- prof doesn't know the answers when going over answers. Attendance is mandatory, no lecture videos, and lecture slides post days late. There is no study material, only the homework and clicker questions. Make-up exams are completely free response, and only 5 questions. no empathy :(
His teaching style is application-based, with many clicker questions during lectures. It may feel frustrating at first, but it's effective if you stay engaged. His exams also focus on application rather than memorization. Overall, a good choice if you need to take this course.
