Great professor. Excellent business experience and can make a pretty booring subject funny and fun. Will work you HARD. Best professor I've ever had.
This guy is great! The class isn't easy, nor is it the most difficult, but Paisley makes ACTG as interesting as it can possibly be. Coupled with his 15 years experience as CFO at 3Com, it may be good to take this class just to get to know him!

Simply Awesome! This guy is a true wealth of information. The coursework can be a little daunting - work from the word "go". Very informative, helpful and an amazing work ethic. Prof. Paisley - stands apart from the rest...
Awesome stories in class!
Excellent teacher. Should take his accounting class
Great teacher, the best I have ever had. Great enthusiasm, made me want to go into accounting. If you are looknig for an easy class, DO NOT TAKE. If you are looking to learn TAKE THIS GUY.
Amazing, I love Paisley. One of the nicest professors at the university with great experience in the industry. He is still active in the industry and sits on the board for a couple of different big high tech companies. Office hours are a great help. The class is tough but worth it.
I had a difficult time with ACTG prior to taking Paisley's course, but he is an AMAZING prof! you learn a lot and if you pay attention in class and study the material in his notes you will be fine:)
By far one of the best teachers your tuition money can buy because he loves teaching more than anyone I've met. As a former CFO, he really knows the ins and outs of the accounting world. He's tough, but none of the other professors comapre. Learn for the sake of learning.
Great. I had him when he first began at SCU. He is very popular. I was a poli sci undergrad major and scared to death to take him in grad school. Ultimately it was great!
This professor is one of the hardest professors i have ever had!!! he is a great teacher and his notes are the guide to his lecture and they are very clear.... but the material is hard. if you have to take accounting like i did then take an easier teacher. his tests are hard and you learn a lot but it doesn't always reflect in your grade.
Decent industry knowledge. Based on my memory, he was the CFO of 3Com and board member of several companies. And he just love to teaching job better than a CFO!Yes, it was hard, but I learned so much from him. He answers questions very patient and fast, both after the class and on the forum. The best choice if you really want to learn Accounting.
Paisley might be harder than other acct professors - his tests are killer - but you _will_ learn accounting, and remember it, at a depth far more extensive than with others, I think. He used to be a CFO at 3Com, back when that was a good thing, so he _really_ knows what he is talking about. Highly recommended. And do the homework!
Great Professor and great class. Exams a bit tough, but you learn a whole lot.
Very difficult class... but it is manageable. Professor Paisley has high expectations, but if you put in the time and the effort, you will do well... DON'T SLACK OFF ON THE FINANCIAL PROJECT... I DID IT 1 WEEK IN ADVANCE AND AM SO GLAD I DID... Pay attention in class and participate... Feel free to e-mail him, he responds frequently
Best teacher I have had at Santa Clara, hands down. Very hard. Take Paisley because you want to learn not because you want an A. The class requires tons of work, but he makes it worthwhile and is very helpful outside of class. I would take him again.
Picture perfect of a good professor. Crystal clear, very organized, passionate and very helpful to students. Can't get any better than this.
Great professor with tons of industry experience. U will learn a lot in his class
Paisley is one of the best professors in Santa Clara MBA program.
one of the hardest, but BEST profs i've had at scu. you'll get a**** ton of hw, but if you do it you'll actually learn something. i dont reccomend this class for ppl who want an easy actg class. take it only if you really want to learn. it was a hard class, but i'd take it over again if i had the choice.
Paisley likes to play operant conditioning games with your homework and extra credit grade. The project is a pain, but not very hard. He'll try to scare you on the first day, don't worry, if you've got common sense enough and aren't totally lazy, it's not that hard. The bad? Homework is due before class, but you still have to go to get points.
Interesting lectures, difficult tests!
Paisley is the best teacher at SCU MBA program IMO. We need more professors like him, a professor than can really teach!
Excellent professor
This class moves at lightning pace, so don't fall behind. Doing and understanding the homework seems to be the best way to prepare for the exams. The project isn't very enjoyable, but is useful. Paisley has a true passion for teaching. Probably one of the more difficult professors, but he's an excellent teacher. Take him!
This is probably one of the best porfessors in the program!!! The problem is, the class is so intense it will be hard to see that until it is all over. Every single CH of the text is covered! Do the HW, but only the ones he assigns in the syllabus. This is will help a lot for the tests. Take an easier professor if you don't like ACTG. :-)
Paisley is very passionate about teaching, which is very apparent in his well paced classes. He times the class well, covers everything you need to about the subject. Taking the class with him is recommended even if you don't need to know much about actg in your job. His exams are tough, its a demanding class and its not easy to get an A.
This has been the most rewarding class to date. He is the most prepared teacher I've had so far. He goes out of his way to give out notes, then after teaching slides, makes those available too. He only gives the homework problem at the end of the chapters that are relevant and will be on the test. Do NOT miss out on Paisley, you'll miss out!!!!
hardest teacher i've had so far after 2 yrs of night classes. i literally thought i was going to fail after the first midterm (i have a 3.5gpa). Being the first time i took accounting, it was very difficult, yet it gave me a good glimpse of acct. Be sure you have the time and the stomach for a B even with monumental effort.
Very good teacher. His tests are tricky. Especially the true-false and multiple choice questions. Need to work hard to succeed. He does not like taking many questions during class because there is a lot of material to cover. However, you can approach him after the lecture or use the discussion board. Shares good stories from real-world experience.
Best professor I have had so far at SCU. It's nice to see teachers put in effort and go above what they need to do. Paisley is very helpful at office hours and email. Tough class, but if you put in the time you will get a good grade.
Great guy, excellent professor. Very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject matter. Do NOT fall behind in the class. You will work very hard, but remember alot. If you're looking for an easy professor, do not take this class.
He is by far one of the best professor's I have ever had!
Excellent professor who will teach you a lot. Very difficult and I'm very, very glad that this class is over with. Be ready to put in hours of homework almost every day and say goodbye to your life outside of work/school. A great professor to break you into the MBA program as he's made every other class easier by comparison.
The best professor that I have had at Santa Clara University. He makes the accounting world interesting and applicable to any business student, regardless of their major. The class isn't easy, but you will finish it with a clear understanding of the material. Paisley is very willing to help and cares about his student's success. TAKE HIS CLASS.
Paisley is a good professor, but he moves at a blistering pace. Prepare to not have a life for the duration of the quarter, because you will ALWAYS have more work to do. It comes fast and furious.
This class is brutal. You will learn a lot and the classes are never boring, but the tests require a lot of time to prepare for and even if you do, you may not do well. Don't cry about it, but just expect to buckle down and not procrastinate.
He doesn't take into account that everyone is coming from different backgrounds and expects you to be at a CPA level. I know he is nice but that doesn't translate into being able to teach to the full spectrum of MBA students. Try to take another accounting professor if you can...its not worth the GPA hit.
Accounting is all about number crunching and making sense of those numbers and Paisely certainly makes that point very clear in his exams! He was the toughest professor I've had until I took Heineke's econ 401.
Prof Paisley is tough. Still, at the end of the quarter, I realized how much I appreciated his teachings and real life scenarios. As a former CFO, he's got loads of credibility and the course is clear cut and well designed. While I was a bit nervous b/c he is known as a hard professor, as long as you do the homework, you will be fine.
Paisley makes accounting fun. But its not for the faint of heart
In short, "Great Professor". Tons of real-world experience and very eager to share them and make accounting very interesting. If it was not for Chris, I don't think I would have got the interest in accounting. You will not regret taking accounting with him. Just do it.
Great professor, genuinely wants to make sure you learn the material. Moves through the course very fast, must put in a lot of time to keep up. Take his course if you are serious about learning.
Paisley is really hard. Toughest acctg 11 professor but definitely well worth it. Just do the work, go to class, and pay attention and you CAN get an A. He has so many connections and a wealth of knowledge that you can take advantage of. he is willing to help anyone. would recommend him!
best professor i've ever had at SCU. made me finally pick accounting as my major over finance. take him and you won't regret it
If you want to be an accounting major, TAKE PAISLEY! Best professor. So clear, so thorough. Makes difficult material straight-forward and shows how it's relevant to real life. He will make you UNDERSTAND the stuff, not just have you go through the motions. Lots and lots of hw and studying, but so worth it. Take with lighter class load.
Great teacher. I had no prior experience with Accounting and enjoyed his class thoroughly. His exams are tough, but if you do all the HW problems and stay current with the lectures you should be able to get an A. He makes learning an experience !!
Great Prof. Very clear about his expectations. Very helpful. His real world experience makes the accounting fundamentals easier to understand. His notes and ppt are sufficient to prepare for the class. The subject requires a lot of hard work.Do all the assignments and the exams will be easier to cope with. Highly recommended.
He made me hate my life but love accounting. A superb teacher. More dedicated than any other instructor I've had at SCU. I wish he taught other graduate classes because I would take them.
Really good and dedicated teacher and nice guy! There is a lot of homework but if you do it an A or B is doable. Tests were hard but not ridiculously so. Two midterms, a final, and group project which took up a decent amount of time. I'd recommend this teacher.
Best teacher I've had yet at Santa Clara, not to be taken as an easy teacher however. He's hilarious, smart as hell, and one of the most successful men you'll ever meet. If you make it through his class, he'll write you recommendations and help you through any problems in the business school at anytime. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Professor Paisley rocks my world! It really was an honor to study underneath him and validated why I went and needed to go to business school. I've never studied so hard to pass an exam in my entire life. If he taught more classes, I would take them. Devotion is required of you. You will not pass on IQ alone.
Prof. Chris is the best professor so far I've had. He will make his students fall in love with the course with his teaching skills and experience. I personally loved every class of his and the take away from each class was so valuable. His exams need a lot of preparation, but at the end, its totally worth it. Nobody can teach accounting like Chris.
Chris is by far the best professor I have had throughout undergrad or grad school. You will never find a professor who is this devoted to his subject and to his students. He certainly isn't teaching for the money. He is teaching for you. Graduating without taking Paisley should be a crime.
Chris is the best professor at Santa Clara University. You will work very hard in this class, but it is incredibly worth it. There is a reason that alumni come back just to say hello to him. He is teaching because he loves the subject and he wants you to fall in love with it as well. Chris Paisley is a love letter to accounting.
You went to business school for a reason. One clear justification is taking Prof. Paisley's accounting class. I have clear memories of studying in the library until 2 am for many nights consecutively. If you don't get it--go to office hours. He'll explain things to you clearly without condescension. It is an honor to have been taught by him!
3 exams, 1 group presentation You will be learning a lot in this class. However, if you are doing accounting for the first time, be careful. His lecture is clear but very fast. If you have never taken accounting class anywhere, it will be very tough. You also have to devote long time studying for this class.
Paisley is great--he knows his class is tough but does everything he can for his students to excel, given the circumstances. Lectures are engaging and his real world experience is pertinent into understanding the professional application of the material. Do the homework, recommend re-watching his lectures (although it's time consuming). Enjoy!
Awesome Professor!
The man makes you earn every point you get. But this may be the only course that's worth your time and money at LEavey. He lays the foundation right and you will need that. Yes u will work very very hard. So be wise about choosing other courses that quarter. But he is organized, methodical, helpful and an amazing teacher.
BEST professor ever. Although the tests are very difficult, but it really makes you learn. He is the most fair professor I have come across, whether its teaching or grading the exams. Super clear and organized. The more courses I take with other professors, the more I realize that Chris is the BEST!! ALWAYS available online to answer questions.
Great class, great professor. Teaches the topic with a passion and it really shows. Paisley definitely is always looking for how he can teach the class better. Very friendly and accessible, answers questions in a non-condescending manner and is very thorough and willing to explain until you get it. Do the homework, that's the real key to doing well
1000% the hardest class that I have EVER taken. I have a Bachelors in Finance and a MS in Computer Science and I still got my butt kicked by this guy. Please trust me when I say that you need to do everything you possibly can to get another professor!
His questions on the test are very different than the homework and as if the class isn't already hard enough he still puts trick questions on the test. . Doesn't offer extra credit and he encourages students to drop at the beginning of each class. You have to memorize everything for his tests even though you would not have to do that in real life.
Though the workload is hard and the tests are tricky, he is the best professor I've taken so far at SCU. You learn so much from his class, and he really cares about every student. He brought in past students to share their accounting experience, and he tries his hardest to help you in every way (class, job, internship). Go to his office hours!
Hands down the best instructor I have ever had. He teaches accounting so clearly and thoroughly, and he draws from his experience to connect the topics to the real world. You will work very hard in this class, but you will be rewarded. Its clear that he cares deeply about his students. Highly recommended, especially if youre an accounting major.
Best professor at SCU. Hard course but you will learn alot. One of the only true gems in the MBA program. I would literally hire him as a CFO if I started a company right now.
Wow! Amazing professor. I've learned more in this class than I have in the entirety other 3 classes I took this quarter. My only regret is that he only teaches a single class in the undergraduate program.
If you're taking ACTG 11, take Paisley. Great lectures, great real-world anecdotes, extremely clear expectations and grading, helpful in office hours. If you want to do well (and actually learn which is what matters at the end of the day): read book and do homework before class, print out lecture notes, sit in the front, and JOURNAL ENTRIES iykyk:)
my absolute favorite professor and the reason why i came to SCU. he has become such an amazing role model and has even written some letters of recommendation for me. it's a very tough class but you will learn so much about the industry and about life in general. i recommend paisley to everyone. take him if you can
Please pick any other professor! This is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. His class will make your other classes suffer. Homework takes 6+ hours. Tests/material are extremely difficult. Average for quizzes and tests were C or Ds. Save yourself the pain and just choose someone else. Unless you intend to be an accounting major, beware!!!!
I would strongly discourage people from taking this class unless they are very interested in accounting, or have a lot of free time they are willing to dedicate to studying for this class. Tests are unnecessarily hard and homework is graded for correctness. Unfortunately, sometimes it felt like we were being set up to fail.
This Professor is a solid choice if you're an accounting major. The way he structures his class forces you to work hard and be on top of everything. But I think I've learned more from reading the textbook and doing the homework (this takes at least 4-5 hours per chapter if you're doing it right) than listening to his lectures (he goes super fast)
Paisley is by far the best professor I've had at SCU. He's strict but you can tell he cares so much. It was a tough class, but it prepared me well for future ACTG classes. HW takes 5+ hours/week and tests are hard. I recommend Paisley to anyone who wants to be an accounting major, but if you're just checking off a requirement, don't take his class.
If there's an option of taking with ANYONE else, dont take it with Paisley. He's a very good instructor but the amount of work is insane and not in proportion to any other course or other 4 unit courses. Also - tough grading, 3 tests in the course + project + quiz + 15 hours of homework a week. So in one word - AVOID.
The best class I have taken in my entire academic career. I loved Paisley. While this class is by no means an easy A, Paisley motivated me to give it so much extra effort. He inspired me to change my major to accounting, was immensely helpful outside of class, and truly cares about your success. Effort and time investment is required for success.
Solid choice overall. The class is not easy but it's not too difficult either. Professor Paisley is very strict but also caring at the same time. Best way to study for exams would be doing the Review handouts, smartbook problems, and chapter exercises in the back of the book. Read the textbook very carefully and pay close attention to lectures
I'm not an accounting major, but I highly encourage business students to take Professor Paisley. He is extremely dedicated and thorough, and helps you to build a good foundation for future accounting courses. Practice is the key to success in this class. If you do your homework diligently, you will do well.
Best teacher I have ever taken, the class is really hard tho. You have on some week 6 homework assignments each one taking a few hours itself. If you search up Christopher Paisley's name you will realize he has been at the top of his field and you can learn so much from him.
Accounting is his calling. If you want bang for your buck or are accounting major, take him. If you just want to get by, take someone else. Helps to have previous accounting knowledge. Spent probably over 6 hours a week on HW. Great connection to have. He's very caring and accessible. Make an impression and participate to get a better grade!
Professor Paisley is a tough grader and there is a lot of course work. The exams are long and most people struggle with finishing them on time. However, he is very thorough when it comes to explaining the concepts. If you have an accounting background, you will far better than those with no understanding of conceptual accounting.
As others have said, lots of work but he is the best ACTG 11 prof out there. You will learn a ton if you are willing to put in the work for it, and it will be very useful knowledge for almost any business major.
He is one of the best MBA Professor in the school.
Literally one of the worst classes I've taken. Professor makes it so much more difficult than is necessary and there is almost always a time crunch like there is no room to breathe. Would not recommend, drop it right now if you are considering taking him.
This comment is directed to you, professor. I have a 3.8 gpa, and it pains me that the average test grade in your course is a 46%. You are hurting our futures by giving us too much coursework to handle. My gpa was significantly hurt by your course. You need to realize we have so many other commitments we are balancing and it hurts us in other clas
Best teacher I have taken at Santa Clara. Because of the core teachings it made all the other ACTG classes be way easier. If you are able to get a good grade in his class you are able to get one in basically any other class at Santa Clara. If you are considering doing accounting he is the best teacher for it.
