He is the best bio teacher you could get,best at explaining, making you understand and giving tests on things you have done in class. If you take a honors class with him be prepared to write a longgg and really hard research paper.

Dr Petersen takes a lot of material and teaches it with an emphasis on the important. If you take his honors classes, do clarify what precisely the "reaserach objective" is before you start reading sources or writing. Use his office hours; he wi

Great teacher. Clears everything out. Bio 102 and 103 involve a lot of memorizing. Cracks some really good jokes. Makes the class fun. Want to get an A? Do all your work and do what he says. Gives lots of notes in class.

He's a very nice man, but his teaching skills are... subpar. His classes are so uniform and bland, although he is very helpful. My biggest gripe is his handwriting. It's AWFUL! You get something back from him and you can hardly read what he says! And he can't pronounce things sometimes. It's funny.

Mr Petersen is a very considerate and helpful teacher. He'll stay after and answer any questions for you. It seems like he's one of those teachers that doesn't want anyone to do bad in his class. His sense of humor is a lil off the wall- and his handwritting is HORRENDOUS! he's still pretty good!

Very supportive. Crazy humor but really cares about the students and wants to see them do well. Assignments carefully chosen to develop an interest in the real world issues. I won't be one of your easier classes, though.

Excellent teacher...willing to help you anytime... as far as tests are concerned they are fair... Research paper can prepare you for advanced classes if you are taking honors

Mr Petersen is a great teacher. I would recommend him to anyone taking biology. He is not the easiest of teachers but you can do well if you study hard. He cares alot about his students and will help you out anytime.

The very best professor COD's honors program has to offer! A man who is passionate about his students and his subject and is always on your side. I consider him a second father! He's the funniest (gotta love corny jokes), kindest, smartest man on COD and a lot of fun. He's demands a lot from you, but it is very doable-just work hard & study!

he is the best teacher you will ever have at cod. he will help you with anything, practically telling you what is on the test, if you are a major in bio then take his class, if not, i must admit it might be kind of hard, but it is a challege, don't take mulitple choice, take short answer!! he is a great teacher! may God bless his soul!

He is the best teacher that i have come across since i joined COD. Though his tests are hard, he wants you to study well. The best option is to take short answer exams and tests which covers nothing apart from his notes. He ROCKS! and he is very helpful and understanding.. It would be worth taking him for BIO 1151.. take my word..

Great. The class is easy and fun

i took the honors bio and unless you are prepared to do an extremely tedious research paper and your anal about getting an A then don't do it. the research paper is a killer so i suggest you take regular bio and not honors cuz you'll be guarenteed a B. that's my advice unless you are willing to work your butt off, don't do it.

(honors version of the class) Petersen is an AMAZING teacher. He makes coming to class well worth it. He's funny and very easy to understand. This is a class where if you put in effort you'll earn a great grade. If you take the honors version you'll have to write a small research paper which is fun to do, non-hon will not have to write it.

Dr. Petersen is excellent, he's really helpful and honestly cares about all his students. he's willing to go the extra mile to help students understand the materials better whether it's through email or meeting in his office or after class. he'll come in on days that we didn't have class just to go over the material.

Dr. Petersen is one of the best professors I have ever encountered. Very funny and very knowledgeable. He wants you to succeed. All-around great person. I took the honors version Biology 1151 and 1152 currently. This class does require work, so put the time and study hard. Listen to him, and you will do well. Take him, you will not be disappointed!

Chris Petersen is probably the best teacher I have ever had, but one of the most difficult. Do not take his class unless you are willing to devote half your life to it, because that's what it takes. However, as hard as the work is, it is great preparation for continuing education and made me VERY sure that I am passionate about biology!

Really passionate professor, and just a very nice man. He's very helpful to the students in and outside of class. However, beware, you have to work for every inch of your grade in this class. It is NOT easy.

He's the best bio tescher - very lenient, nice n easygoing. study straight off the notes he gives you for the tests; you dont even need to read the fat book and can still get an A in the class. there are 5 tests, 1 paper, 2 practicals. but hes really helpful and approachable n makes bio easy. i enjoyed his class and want to take his next class too!

Really nice/cool guy, very passionate about what he teaches. explains things really well but so much information hard to get all of it. his tests are very very hard but if you study like a mad man they are bareable. you can make up for it by doing well in lab.

Mr. Petersen is such a great teacher.You don't have to bring the textbook to class,but you do have to take lots of detailed notes from his lectures.You can go to him whenever and he will gladly help you.His tests are hard but studying off of his class notes and the student study guide book is good enough. I highly recommend him for both bio classes

I am still in the middle of the semester, but so far he has been helpful and nice. He is very considerate and acknowledges all his students, if they are doing ok or need help, and always helps, doesn't make you feel awkward. Gives good advice. Class is a bit hard but study your notes!!

Very nice teacher and extremely helpful. You have to dedicate yourself to this class, not an easy "a" but definitely a good teacher. I've learned a lot from this course, not only on bio but how to deal with other courses and better study habits.

Dr. Petersen is hands down one of the best professors at COD. His class is interesting (especially if you are a science major). His tests, although somewhat difficult, come straight for his lectures; you really do not need to know the book "in and out". The course itself is not very easy, but Dr. Petersen definitely makes it enjoyable!

Petersen is a great professor, even if you're not totally into biology. You must study for tests, but dont really need the book. He'll gladly help with your paper or understanding concepts. Plus he was a very funny enjoyable teacher. You can tell he loves to teach and cares that you learn.

Great teacher he will help you when you need it, make sure you study for his test because they are exactly off of his notes but if you don't know everything you will survive. In the 5 week summer course he let us pick a multiple choice test or short answer which was really nice to be able to decide his short answer is easier!

Mr. Petersen is an excellent professor and is the smartest man I have ever met. I took him for honors Bio 1151 and 1152 and he is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. He will always help you with what you need and doesn't make you feel dumb if you don't understand something. Tests are difficult but an A is certainly obtainable.

Dr. Petersen is a exceptional professor who wants you to understand and think. He will challenge you, but he is willing to help you, too. If you attend class, review his lecture notes and go for the essay exams you can attain an A.

He is a very kind and intelligent person. He inspires his students to live better. However, I personally had trouble with his class. I ended up dropping it, and I usually do well on bio. His teaching method did not work for me personally.

Great Teacher! Very Knowledgeable and helpful. His tests are from the notes given out so make sure you write down everything during class. His project is kind of tricky so start as soon as you can. He give out two tests I found written much better. Take him you will never regret it.

He teaches of powerpoints, but his teaching method isn't all that great, tests are fairly difficult pretty much have to study until your brain falls out, must read the book because he doesn't explain all the processes in detail, if you need to take bio 1152 take it with someone else.. he's nice guy, but not all that great professor

Petersen was by far the best prof. I had in Biology! Yes, the tests are tough, and yes, you're expected to work hard, but Petersen is so engaging and excited about the material that it was easy to stay focused. I teach high school chemistry now, and the stuff my students say they like about my teaching style I largely stole from Chris!

Very helpful, but extremely hard. He does not give study guides, but he explains ALL the information in detail, so if the students listen carefully enough and study hard for the tests, they should be okay. If you want to continue education in the medical field, you'll be used to studying hard!!!!!!

I had Dr. Petersen for Honors Biology 1151. I LOVE HIM! He's one of the very few teachers I admire. He really wants you to do well in his class, and I feel if I were to perform horrible on a test, not only do I let myself down but him also. The class is challenging but not difficult as long as you study your ass off. I can't wait to take 1152!

He is THE BEST TEACHER EVRR! he is caring, respectful, approachable for help, lenient. His tests are basically from the notes (just try to understand the notes). He is so hard working and a good role model! Simply amazing!!!

Dr. P is an excellent professor. I have a degree and am going for a 2nd one in Bio. I have had many professors. His material is clear and organized. Great sense of humor! Wants his students to achieve! He is always available and structures his courses so you absorb the most amount of info in the least burdensome way.

Prof. Peterson is truly a wonderful instructor. I'm a "more mature" student and have had many professors over the years--at COD as well as U of I and U of C. Prof. Peterson CARES about his students. He is ALWAYS available. His lectures are fun, and test material is COMPLETELY relevant to class discussion. He treats his students like adults.

Dr. Petersen is the most dedicated, hard working professor I've ever came across at COD. I've learned so much taking his class! He is ALWAYS there for extra help and does everything in his power for his students to succeed.The material is difficult but he makes it enjoyable. I can't wait for Biology 1152! :)

Best Bio teacher i have ever had! he is extremely helpful and always answers his e-mails. He teaches to every learning style and gives you two options for tests.

He is one of the best and most inspiring teachers. He truly knows the material. Lectures are great and the tests re based on his lectures. To me, he was clear and easy to understand. He was pretty good about informing us what will be on tests. Overall great teacher, I would recommend him to anyone.

Very fun class you walk around campus and listen to what he says. Dosent really quiz you on nature walks. If you are having trouble ask for help, he will be easier on you and explain better in class without calling you out. He will answer emails with helpful information. You should have no problem passing this class,and you will learn from it.

I loved Mr. P!! He was soo helpful but you REALLY have to study to pass his tests. Take him if you are really interested in Biology.

Dr Petersen was a great teacher. Extremely knowledgeable with a few corny jokes here and there. Doesn't grade on attendance but it helps your grade bump up at the end. No blackboard, if you want to know your grade just ask. Extremely flexible. Learned a lot!

Petersen is awfully nice and willing to help you but if you're a non-science major or science really isn't your thing, don't take this particular class. It's VERY demanding and even though I studied 'til my brain fell out still didn't pass any tests. Would recommend only to people who know the subject in-depth already.

Dr. Petersen is THE best. He goes out of his way to make the subject understandable and clear; He's funny and tries to keep this heavy subject light! You will put in effort to get an A, but that's expected since it is a tough class. He may not be the easiest, but I can honestly say that I learned a lot (not memorized a lot) and it was WORTH IT.

Dr. Petersen is a really good teacher. He's always willing to help when you have a question about any of the stuff we're going. However, he's a powerpoint lecturer. He isn't the typical boring teacher, and he actually makes it so you have to pay attention during lecture. The subject is extremely difficult, so you have to bust your butt studying.

Dr. Petersen is an amazing professor. He is very clear on what will be on his tests and lets you take a short answer version instead of multiple choice (take the short answer). Always willing to help during class & labs, which are easy points! He teaches through powerpoint so you don't use the book but the book is useful for extra help and studying

Fantastic. The first day of class he went up to each student and got to know them one-on-one. I went in with NO interest in environmental biology, but was hooked after day one. He makes class fun and shows he cares about his students. You have to study in order to do well on his tests! I definitely recommend him.

This class was pretty hard and you really do have go above and beyond for your grade. Dr. Petersen helps out his students alot so don't be afraid to go in and ask for help. The tests are all based off the notes and go with written exams because they are easier.

Great Teacher! My first class first semester n became my fave. He took time to know everyone one on one. He is really helpful n jokes a lot. He does care about you. Notes are all you need. Don't think you can get away with multiple choice without studying. STUDYING IS A MUST. take the short answers maybe. NO WAY YOU WONT LIKE HIM.

Great guy, funny, insightful and he cares about his students. His lectures are very clear and interesting "Write down flowcharts until you're blue in the face." He gives you choices for exams, multiple choice or short answer/essay. Take the short answer it is almost exactly like his study guides. One of the better teachers I took at COD.

Dr. Petersen is by far the best biology professor at COD. He is such a nice, caring man and funny man. He has two types of test, multiple choice and short answer. But trust me! SHORT ANSWER IS BETTER. I didn't really use the book, pretty much read his notes. But read the book over topics that are a little arduous to understand. TAKE HIM!

Absolutely wonderful teacher! He is so nice and takes his classes seriously. He is ALWAYS willing to help and go over things with you. His tests are ridiculously hard so studying is an absolute must! But again, wonderful teacher! I definitely recommend him.

I LOVE THIS TEACHER!! He is seriously amazing. Wicked hard tests but he gives you the benefit of the doubt. Curves his grades like mad. Basically if you show hard work and dedication, you'll get a good grade. Goes to every student at the beginning and learns about them. Took his class after having horrible Mrs Robinson. He's great!!

I took him for environmental biology and ended up switching my major because I enjoyed it so much. He's an awesome professor and cares a lot about his students and their success in his class. The tests are not bad as long as you do the reading and pay attention during the lectures. He curves them too which helps a lot. Take his class!

I'm a bio chem major and I'm taking him for bio 2 also. Probably my favorite teacher at COD so far and hopefully he'll write my recommendation for when I transfer. Don't be scared to ask him questions and ALWAYS take the free response tests over the multiple choice (he gives you the option). His sarcasm is hilarious and he's got great credentials.

Dr. Petersen is an amazing professor, my favorite by far. He will go out of his way to help each of his students and will work with you until you have a thorough understanding of the material. One of the best professors at COD. Don't even bother getting the book, STUDY YOUR NOTES AND YOU WILL GET AN A! Always take short answer tests over multiple choice. He is very helpful, his tests are a little tough but if you study the notes you should definitely be fine. I 100% recommend taking him for biology!

Dr. Petersen walks the walk; he is a true environmentalist. He knows his stuff, and does his best to teach it. He takes the time to get to know each student, building upon the relationship throughout the semester. Environmental Biology was extremely easy; the tests and assignments were common sense and very straightforward. Highly recommend!

Petersen is super nice!! He does expect a lot of the students and have them memorize stuff that other classes don't. However, his short answer exams are clear and he gives out partial points Always take SHORT ANSWERS He is one of few who prefer his students to take short answer rather than multiple choice even though scantrons are easier to grade

Most people love Mr. P. He's a cool guy and knows is stuff! I did amazing first semester with a diff prof but with Mr. P. I had the hardest time. My tests were all C's. He uses powerpoints to lecture and skips more than half the slides. His teaching style just didn't click with me.

Great professor. Always willing to answer questions and clarify material. Throws in the occasional joke, which is nice in the middle of longer material. Sometimes it was a little hard to hear in the back, but the lectures were presented well. Paper in the honors class was extremely helpful for future classes.
