He makes something boring like philosophy an interesting topic...but...he is a stickler for attendance. Great class though. He tells you EXACTLY what he expects on papers and tests. There is no excuse not to do well in this class.
He is very boring sometimes in class but is very clear on what he wants on papers. He is tough on attendance so show up and space off and do well on papers and youve got a B
he is fun and makes sure everyone is clear on the topic. he is really easy and goes over everything for the tests.
kick ass take him...comment on diet coke addiction
he's fun. give input in class and he'll appreciate you. he's not prejudice! except towards any beverage that's not diet coke.
He is very good and entertaining while teaching. If you pay attention, it will be easy for you.
expect to participate in class, not to sit in a stupor or just take notes. plays devils advocate a lot to try and get reactions. really worth taking.

bit of a scatter-brain but it helps to male the class interesting. great guy. tells you exactly what he expects you to know for tests and gives you clear and complete expectations on your papers. highly recommend. he is a a very positive challenge. expect to learn a thing or two.
He makes philosophy fun and interesting. His expectations are crystal clear.
Great teacher, explains things very well, always willing to meet w/students to discuss papers or readings, gives study guide before midterm and final-big help, you have to do some of the reading, but he really explains it well in class, papers aren't bad, take him for 107!
Chris is awesome! Very funny personality and his class was great to attend. Papers were pretty easy, as well as exams. Very helpful study guides. I think this man is so good-looking!! Makes watching him lecture a lot easier... :)
He is amazing! I was somewhat interested before I took the class but it ended up being my favorite and he is by far the best professor I have ever had. He is interesting, helpful, clear, and the class is easy as long as you keep up with the reading and class discussion.
1. If Russ Shafer-Landau makes my eyes bleed, then Chris P is a fun and energetic lecturer. 2. Russ Shafer-Landau does, in fact, make my eyes bleed (as well as my vital organs). C. Therefore, Chris P is a fun and energetic lecturer.
It was a great course! Take him if you can. He is really funny when you get to know him. Very dry sense of humor! Great Prof!
Great guy!!!
amazing class, its the best ever, its the only one i want to go to
This man is obsessed with diet coke. I don't think I have ever seen him without one. He isn't really difficult and makes class at least bearable - but unless your a philosophy major 250 is a rough class no matter who you take it from. Not many grades - midterm, final, two papers.
I love this guy!!! He is the coolest professor I have, loves diet coke, and tells some hilarious jokes. He makes philosophy really fun and exititing and does a great job of explaining everything. I have a feeling the class would have been much harder without a good teacher. Papers are difficult but he has sessions to sign up for to discuss it.
Real nice guy. Spells everything out for you and explains until everyone gets it. Funny, and casual class makes it nice. Loves the Diet Coke. Need to know a lot for the test but if you pay attention not bad at all. 2 papers too.
Very funny guy. You'll never see him without a diet coke in his hand. His tests arent that hard if you pay attention in class and study a little.
He is a younger professor and I believe that he can relate to us students since he is closer in age. He is funny as hell and very sarcastic. I enjoyed his class and did not mind coming. He grades the papers hard but test are easy. I recommend him as a teacher.
I love this guy! He is funny and knows his stuff. Papers are the toughest part, but he is very willing to help. He really cares about students and relates to them well. He made philosophy really interesting.
Demands participation and effort from students, but takes weeks/months to return papers. Also, he's late on entering final grades. Class moves very slowly.
this man knows how to teach, he is very clear and the worksheets are straight forward. participate in class, do well on tests cuz the papers are killers. amazing teacher who loves what he's talking about TAKE HIM
Great guy and overall a good teacher. If you are looking for the easy way out of ethics, take the theology brand. This class does demand some preparation, especially the papers. It is not exceedingly difficult, but you will have to put a bit of time in. Overall the class is a little slow, but he is pretty funny and keeps it interesting.
Chris is an amazing professor! His tests are straightforward, but the papers demand some thought. They are totally able to be done especially if you meet with him about it. The class moves at the pace that it needs to, he will not move on until you understand the material! Highly recommended professor!
There really isn't an easy professor for PHL ethics, so if you want to experience ethics painlessly take the THL brand. However, Pliatska is a great prof, he makes his classes really fun, and really works hard to cater to student needs. The class can be kind of tough though, start your papers way ahead of time and study hard for tests. Take him.
Chris was awesome! His class is not easy but he does a great a job explaining things. He is willing to answer questions and discuss the topic until everyone understands him. He's fun and helpful. You can tell he really loves philosophy and knows what he's talking about.
Chris was a very nice teacher. He makes you laugh and is a fun teacher. His Tests and Paper are extemely hard. I liked the course and the teacher but it was challenging
really funny guy. i enjoyed this class because he had interesting insights into the readings. expectations for a good grade are totally laid out.. you just have to do the work. talking to him during office hours will help you clear up ANYTHING.
cool guy, very funny/sarcastic and he keeps you on your toes. material can be difficult but he explains it very well. tests werent bad, papers were kinda difficult. word to the wise: DO NOT FALL ASLEEP IN CLASS. overall great teacher, take him!
Philosophy will always be a tricky subject, but Pliatska is very helpful in clarifying the course content.
Not enjoyable. Pay attention and don't play Sudoku. He is one of the main reasons I left Creighton altogether.
Really a great teacher. Most of all he makes sure that his students understand the material, constantly taking breaks to make sure everything is making sense. Respects student questions and opinions. Relatively easy with decent amount of work. 4 tests and final isn't cumulative. 2 essays, a little hard. Overall would definitely recommend him.
You will learn a lot in his class about the topics and he is very clear on what he wants on papers. Is rude to some of his students and enjoys picking on them. OBSESSED with Diet Coke! TALK A LOT or he hates you
Would not recommend taking his classes. At least in those I was in the tests required quite a bit of studying and the papers were hard. In most classes I get good grades but I did terrible in his.
He was very organized and passionate about the material. He was always willing to meet with students for extra help.
STAY AWAY!!! he is very helpful, but all the help in the world cannot help you get a good grade in his class. it is very difficult. tests are very very hard and papers aren't any easier. once again, STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!!!
Great teacher--learned a lot.
Drinks a lot of diet coke, and always wears black. Chris is very good at including students in class discussion, and is very helpful in answering questions.
Chris is a wonderful professor! He is well-read, intelligent, articulate, and he has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor. Read the material and attend lecture; you just might broaden your horizons. Remember, always employ the principle of charity, and you shall benefit from his instruction.
Good prof, but tough to get an A. Take extremely good notes to get a good grade on the tests! Participation is a really big part of the grade but it helps out to clarify material. Good overall!
I love him! He's quirky and hilarious. What he teaches isn't easy but he presents it in a really interesting and accessible way. Be prepared to participate a lot in class if you want an A. He's big on that. He's a wonderful professor!
Professor Pliatska is interesting and knows his stuff. I like the fact that he gets on the slackers in class. Do not expect to see a grade until the class is over. He is not good about sticking to the sylabus or getting your papers back in a timely manner. Oh and expect an eight week class to really be a nine week class.
Knows his stuff, and is helpful if you can get a meeting with him. The class is extremely difficult, essay questions on tests are tough and the logic material is tempermental, STAY AWAY if you want a good QPA.
i would not recommend this class. he makes what could be a very interesting subject and limits it to pages and pages of definitions and terms. also there is a huge critical paper to write which he has you do over fall break. i do have to admit he is a funny guy though he just really made the class painful to sit through
If you've taken an advanced class in high school, pulling off an A or a B+ will not be too difficult. Active participation are key to success. He's straight-foward with his expectations on the essay and tests and offers study sessions on his own time to clear up any questions. Loves the subject, which really helps to gain his student's interest.
Pliatska's class is extremely interesting and you will learn a lot, but it's hard to get an A (93% and up). His lectures are done very well by having the students take part in the discussions. He has a great sense of humor and is very sarcastic. Take part in for the discussions b/c it's a big part of your grade. Find a good study groups too
Unbelievably funny guy. Absolutey take this class. Anyone who says he is boring must be talking about someone else. Best teacher and most interesting class I have had at Creighton. However it is difficult. If you don't do any work you won't get a B. If you do a lot of work getting an A is extremely difficult. it was completely all of the work. Great class.
Definitely take. Other people in my class didn't like him much, but you don't have to do hardly anything outside of class day-to-day, just go to lecture and take good notes. Review sessions are really helpful. Pretty funny but mostly at the expense of some smart-mouthed kid in the class. Is mostly amusing. Sometimes kind of awkward. But take him.
this class is so easy. just show up and write down everything he says in class. thats it. you dont even really have to do the readings. again, just listen to what he says about them in class. he goes over every topic so many times, so you dont really have to study that much. easy a+
he is a great and funny teacher. He goes over everything in class so no need to really read just skimming is fine. Good class to boost your GPA.
Horrible! Although he is kinda funny it gets annoying and by the end of the semester all you will do is watch the clock. Test questions are unclear and he really has his favorites in class, so if your not them don't expect to get called on in class
Prof. Chris is a very fun teacher. If you attend class and participate it is very easy. Reading really isn't necessary cuz he covers almost everything in class. Offers study guides for every test. Anyone who tells you he was hard didn't put any effort into it.
This guy is hilarious. He related anything negative in philosophy to Justin Bieber or cats. All you need to do is write down everything he says, come to class, and participate occasionally. The tests are little hard to get at first, but I barely studied and got a B+. Also he's hot and wears red shoes every day and a blazer. Take him!
I liked this class but it was also really really tough. He is no easy grader and makes his tests very detail oriented. He is also on the seven point grade scale, meaning a 93 is an A and a 92 is a B+. If you are not good at philosophy or don't want to put in the time do not take him
Professor Pliatska is a great teacher! He is a hottie and I look forward to class everyday! He makes it interesting & real knows how to keep your attention! I would recommend taking this class for the subject and for the opportunity to stare at Chris all during class!
He is a good professor, keeps class interesting, BUT you really have to understand the material (in detail) in order to get a good grade in class. He looks for a lot of specifics; you can't just answer in general terms. I would suggest taking this class if you have a background in Greek history because he refers to Greek history/terms a lot.
He is a great teacher. The concepts he covers in class are interesting but difficult. Be prepared to participate in this class because 16% of the grade is participation. Overall, take him because you will learn alot and appreciate philosophy!
Honestly the best teacher I've had so far at Creighton. I took a philosophy class in high school and loved it but I've enjoyed his class so much that I've decided to double major in philosophy. If you have any interest in the class and do your homework it's an A easily, but if you don't it may be a little hard because some of the concepts are tough
He's HILARIOUS! I learned a TON in his class and actually enjoy going. HOWEVER! His tests are VERY difficult, and I know that what I have learned is not reflected in my grade in the class. If you care about grades, don't take his class. If you don't have time to commit to his class, don't take his class. He grades hard his tests are super tricky.
Chris is HOT! But he is also a very tough grader when it comes to his exams and essays. The exams are very tricky and you need to study the material introduced in class because EVERYTHING he covers is on the exams. Class participation is mandatory and will hurt your grade if you do not participate. He has his favorites. Would take him again though.
The BEST professor I've had at CU. Yes, you will have to work (God forbid!) but it is so worth it. He is hilarious and quirky and makes things really clear. Take religious notes, and you will be fine. Also, don't even think about being on your phone. He WILL catch you. Every time.
I really liked him and he has a good sense of humor, making the class more entertaining. He is easy and super nice. If you need any extra help he is really good at clarifying. I would take him again.
Chris raises the bar! He makes it very clear from the beginning that this will be a difficult class and will require a lot of study and preparation. He takes what is pretty heavy material and lightens it up with well placed humor and always checks to be sure everyone understands the discussions. A great class, and a great instructor!
THIS CLASS IS SO HARD!! It's all based on the Holocaust and nothing about philosophy! be prepared to take a history class if you take Pliatska for this course. He's a nice guy thoguh
Great teacher, but make sure you read and study for his test. If you put in the work you will get a good grade, if not then he is very upfront about the fact that you will not do well.
Dr. Chris "Just Call Me Chris" Pliatska is a fantastic professor. He's up front about his expectations (which are not difficult), has a sense of humor, and is VERY helpful, especially with organizing study sessions prior to exams. He also quotes Spock, which is a logical advantage. If you don't learn something from his class, you were in a coma.
Really interesting lecturer and very passionate about philosophy, which makes class entertaining. Make sure you read carefully and show up and participate. He gives a good overview of what will be on the tests and quizzes but you will have to work hard to get an A.
This class will focus on the Holocaust. Most of class material/test content based on his ideas/interpretation of the material. Lectures and class could use structure. His ideas and test questions can be poorly worded or difficult to understand, and could consider/account for student's ideas more in discussion.
Loved having him as a teacher. Lectures are very entertaining and easy to pay attention to. Participation is a big part of grading, and only three tests, but a comprehensive study guide is given before each one and very helpful study sessions are held before each test.
This was the best class I took at Creighton! He makes the material very interesting, but it is very applicable to life in general. I learned so much in this class and would recommend that everyone take it. That being said, you do need to go to class and participate. He gives comprehensive study guides and review sessions for every test.
This was the hardest core class I took this semester and from what I discussed with other PHL 110 students with different teachers, probably the hardest teacher you could take the class. 3 exams, a few reading quizzes, but no papers. A really funny guy though and was a very interesting class to take. I'm glad I took it. Makes the books cheap too.
Chris's lectures are very entertaining and thought provoking. Participation is very important but I think it is almost impossible to get an A in participation alone. There are 3 tests and Chris will prepare a comprehensive study guide before each one. There is also a review session the night before the exam for any last minute questions.
I have had Pliatska for both Honors 100 and 200. I took him again because he is a very charismatic professor and genuinely nice guy. He is also hilarious! Pliatska is a tough grader for papers, and his tests are some of the hardest I have taken, you learn a lot when you take his class. If you want a challenge and to refine your writing, take him.
I would come out of Pliatska's PHL 250 class inspired every time. The guy is very engaging. His lectures are great and he is super funny. One of my favorite professors at Creighton I've had for sure. His class isn't too hard. Mandatory participation + a couple tests makes up grade. Tests are MC and essays. Not bad. He inspired me to do a PHL minor!
Pliatska's tests are hard, but manageable. I recommend small groups to study for tests. He also has study guides and review sessions. I loved this man. He cares so much about students and has amazing lectures. I never missed a class simply because his lectures were SO captivating. Best professor I've ever had at CU.
This teacher was the absolute worst I have ever had at Creighton. His lectures were entertaining but he never used real vocabulary or definitions, which made his tests nearly impossible since he lectures about things that are not the same words that will be on they test. He was always more than 30 min late to every meeting I arranged with him.
Chris is funny and makes the class fun, and I would want to be his friend outside of class, but I did not think he was that great of a professor. He did follow his syllabus, and pushed back a test for 2.5 months when we were over 75% with the course. He also answers questions very sarcastically so I always felt he was not taking the class seriously
Pliatska is the perfect combination. He doesn't give homework, outside of very short readings that he reviews in class. He makes it interesting enough where you want to pay attention, take notes, and be engaged. He gives detailed study guides for the tests, but you have to have equally details notes to understand them. Great professor though.
Pliatska is a great and engaging professor. You must show up to class and participate if you want an A or B. If you actually do the readings and study hard for the tests you can get an A or B. He's funny, insightful, and willing to help.
This was a great class. I had it at 8 am but he made it so interactive and interesting, I was rarely nodding off. Participation and attendance is important. Tests weren't terrible. Assignments were short. He is a hilarious guy and it made me want to take more Philosophy.
By far the best professor I've ever had in my entire life. He is the epitome of what you'd want in a professor: an instrument of knowledge that genuinely cares about empowering people with subjects that drive him on a daily basis. And yes, he's a weird dude, really out there, but in a good way. He's tough but if you put in work, you'll be fine.
Let's get this out of the way: Pliatska's class is tough. You will have to work for any grade in the course. However, he is the coolest and most caring prof I've had here at CU. His lectures are simply amazing and he has a wonderful sense of humor. Sure the course is tough, but I've learned so much about the subject that it's worth it. TAKE HIM.
Pliatska's teaching goes way beyond a grade. His lectures are entertaining and funny, and he really goes out of his way to encourage you to apply them to actual life. The class really isn't that hard, very little homework and the only grades are tests and he tells you exactly what to study and participation. Not an easy A, but so worth it.
Best professor I've had at CU. Philosophy can be dry, but Chris keeps it very interesting and makes me excited for class each day. Not an easy A, though. Light reading, class is mandatory, a few exams. He is hilarious and will make memorable examples to engage you and succeed. Always there for help, too. Oh, he is also very easy on the eyes.
Chris's exams are very tough. You must understand the whole idea and every details to receive an A. Also, must participate.
I really disliked this class with a passion. We were supposed to have 2 tests before the midterm and they never happened. Since we were required to have 3 tests at the end he was like lets double one of them. He is kinda mean not going to lie. VERY unapproachable. Tests super difficult. Harder than my nursing class . Do not take if you want an A.
Never replies to emails. Tests are brutal. Would not recommend. I think I'm going to have nightmares after this class is done.
He is a good lecturer. Interesting to listen to and very funny. But he is so unorganized with the material he presents. Took him so long to get all of the material that we only got to 2 of the 3 tests on the syllabus. He makes philosophy more complicated and confusing then it really needs to be. Take someone else.
I can't believe there are negative comments on here! His class is hard, but he is an incredible professor. He is really passionate about philosophy and super entertaining. Sarcastic but not mean-spirited. When I missed class he was very willing to help me catch up. If you work hard and keep up, you'll be golden, and it will definitely be worth it.
Chris has been my favorite professor so far at Creighton. Lectures are long and sometimes difficult to follow, so make sure you take good notes and do the readings well. He's very sarcastic, but it's all for the purpose of making the class entertaining. He loves what he does and is very willing to help if you seek him outside of class.
Honestly, he wasn't a bad professor to take for philosophy. Although a difficult subject to understand, he makes things entertaining and is always willing to help clarify. Some tests are difficult, but the dates aren't always set in stone, so make sure you pay attention! YOU NEED YOUR BOOKS!
Chris is a good professor and very knowledgable. This class is not one I would consider to be an easy A, you've got to work for your grade. Participation is graded heavily in his class. If you don't come, you will fail. His syllabus strictly says missing 3 classes is an automatic F. Tests are based on study guide that he provides.
Professor Pliatska makes going to class interesting. You must read the material before class so you can get participation points in class. His lectures are both hilarious and helpful. Your grade is almost completely made up of 4 tests and a final. Half multiple choice, half essay questions. Be sure to remember in-class examples for essay questions.
Chris is probably one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. He finds a way to be engaging and funny about what he is teaching, but you still learn a lot and enjoy being in the class. He does not have power points, so it is important to show up and take notes in class. Highly recommend him! And he's nice to look at so that's a plus
I have no idea what to take notes on in his class and he speaks extremely fast, making it hard to write down precise notes which is exactly what he wants as answers on the only four assignments you have: exams. He's a genius but this class and the exams give me anxiety.
I've heard of people who hate Pliatska and I've heard of people who adore him. I consider myself one of the latter as he is my favorite professor thus far. He is hilarious, which makes his lectures super engaging. Participation matters A LOT as his entire lecture is based on the questions we ask. Read the book; raise your hand; laugh at his jokes.
He's really cool and his lectures are funny and interesting, but his tests are extremely difficult. You will need to know the material inside and out or you won't pass.
Not bad. Great professor and can put everything into layman's terms if you don't completely understand it. Don't be fooled: class might be fun, but be prepared to study your rear end off for exams: they're nearly 80% of your grade and they are extremely difficult. I'd take him again because he's like a funnier version of Christian Slater.
I originally was not a fan of Chris or the class overall. However, throughout the semester I've come to enjoy going to class. You really need to know the material for tests, but he has study sessions and gives a study guide--use both of these resources!!
He is a great teacher. He may try to scare you away at first by saying the test are hard but stick to the study guide and you will do good. He has review nights before the test, which are very helpful. He is very funny and always makes class enjoyable. Be ready to take his sarcasm but he always means well. You have to work hard to do good.
Pliatska is an awesome professor. This is the first philosophy class Ive ever taken, and was nervous because I had heard it was hard. However, Chris leads a very engaging class and is very funny and creative in his teaching style. Not difficult to do well on the tests if you pay attention, PARTICIPATE, take notes on discussion topics, and study.
Pliatska was an engaging professor in class but his lecture material got repetitive over time and often spent several class days going over the same material. Make sure to participate as often as possible as it is a big part of your final grade and I wouldn't recommend skipping, attendance is mandatory. Was always available to answer questions.
I loved him!! He tends to rub some people the wrong way but I thought he was awesome. Its not an easy A but if you pay attention, participate and study for the exams you should have no problem!
Most people probably hate Pliatska but he was my funniest teacher. This lectures were super intense and he will call you out and pick you to pieces if you haven't read. This guy is not politically correct, so don't take him if you're sensitive. Take him if you don't care and want a good laugh though. Participation and tests are super important.
Chris comes across like a jerk for the first few weeks of class. Don't let this turn you off from the class, this ended up being my favorite class of Freshman year. He's a super funny and interesting lecturer, but the class always goes the full hour and 15 (sometimes extra.) IMO, take him over someone with a bad rating that may be known as "easier"
Chris is absolutely hilarious. His lectures are always very interesting. His teaching style, makes you want to attend class and be engaged the whole time. He can make uninteresting topics extremely interesting. Make sure you attend class and do the readings but he is such a good professor, you will want to anyway.
Chris is an awesome professor, and clearly has a passion for the classes he teaches. His ultimate questions class focuses on the holocaust and the trial of Adolf Eichmann, which is actually a really interesting topic. However, it's a tough class, lecture runs the full hour fifteen, and you'll have to work really hard to get an A.
Chris is a great guy. I hated him at first, but now his humor has rubbed off on me and it's one of my favorite classes. Don't daydream during class, he'll notice and call you out. If you take good notes and engage in class discussion, you will do just fine. He doesn't want anyone to fail.
He keeps you entertained the whole class period for sure. However, it one thing that annoys him happens, hell snap at the whole class. You literally cant even miss class more than 2 times or he drops you a whole letter grade. And dont even think about even pulling out your phone. Funny guy but sometimes his jokes might go too far.
Anyway, of course, what you want to know is how to get an A. the study guide questions are on the test VERBATIM. Great professor, one of the best I've had at Creighton. Doesn't want anyone to fail and genuinely cares. If anyone hasn't succeeded in this class it's because they didn't study the study guide enough. It's literally the test.
He's such a funny guy. The class is all discussion and if you talk he will like you a lot. He cracks jokes and they are very funny. The tests are literally the study guide. The other reviews aren't kidding. They are literally the same questions. Take him if you get the chance.
Chris is one of my favorite professors. He's hilarious and makes a boring subject enjoyable. Only graded on three tests (and a final) and participation. He gives you all the readings you just have to print them out. Take good notes and do the readings and you'll be good to go. He's always willing to help you if you don't understand something!
Funniest teacher I have ever had and an amazing guy. There are 4 tests but the study guide he gives is exactly the test. He answers your questions and is possibly one of the best teacher's I have had at Creighton.
Definitely a hard class compared to intro philosophy. He is a good lecturer, and he will stop at nothing to engage you. Participating is in your benefit, as he is a pretty hard grader of participation. His tests, however, are graded quite mercifully. Reading is important, but you NEED to listen during class or you will not do well on tests.
Chris is a funny and mysterious dude. He may come across as arrogant and maybe a weirdo in the beginning... you'll either love him or hate him. I loved him and thought he was a cool dude. He engages everyone in cool, deeper thought. You have to write a lot for tests, but he literally gives you the test in a study guide before, so study that up.
