He can read the students body language and can tell when they start to lose interest in what he is saying and he tries to change his approach. You need to come to his classes everyday even though attendance is not counted. He is always there to help you and is VERY passionate about what he knows. He has his own opinions that sometimes slip in.
He doesn't teach what and when. He teaches WHY. His tests are very hard, you have to read the book to pass. It also consists of two essays which are half of the test itself. He's very hard to impress. Also, he has papers that he's very meticulous in grading. He's very opinionated and corny. If you want an easy A, this is NOT the class for you.
Great teacher. If you do fail its cuz your a poon who doesn't listen or realize what all he does for you. Doesn't make you attend but then then you will do not so hot on the test
great teacher and made class interesting
A good teacher who keeps the subject interesting. His online tests and quizzes are tough and you have to pay attention in class and read the book to get a good grade. Which is fine if he could make up his mind on assign due dates. The lessons too have due dates on them and the adobe format makes it impossible to download or print out the lessons.
Confusing! Every time I asked a question to try to clear up the confusion, which was MANY times, his answers only made it worse...but after the first essay it was all cleared up! Even with the confusion I made 100+ on each paper. Not an easy A, but with effort I easily made a B, which is an awesome grade for me! If You Try You Will Not Fail!
He talks about all kinds of things and does not stick to one subject at a time. Quizzes are hard because his lectures are irrelevant to the questions he puts on the quizzes. If you are taking History b/c you have to, i do not recommend him.
Too chaotic and disorganized! Can't make up his mind on when assignments are due or even give clear concise instructions on what to do for the assignments. Made multiple offensive comments to class, calling us ignorant on the very first day of class. DO NOT TAKE
He was 'cool' at the beginning of the semester. But then he turned into a real jerk. He got caught up in the politics of present times. Loved bashing Bush and pretty much exclaimed that Obama is a deity. He rarely used the textbook, but the tests and quizzes are over what's in them.personally think he is a bad teacher.
Don't take him! He changes his mind on what to do every 5 seconds. The day before the final he completely changed his mind on what the test was going to be over and how the test was going to be laid out. He made promises and broke them. Please stay away.
Wow dude changes his mind every 5 seconds. pick something and stick with it..you'll earn 40% of your over all grade in the last 3 days..his reviews are useless. he never talked about half the stuff on the review. Interesting to listen too. once he gets organized then he will be a good teacher until then stay away.
Don't take! Lectures are from his own independent studies, which would be cool if the exams were over his lectures. They aren't. Wasted time writing 10+ essays that were not relevant/helpful in preparing for exam and then decided they don't count for a grade. Very condescending. Passionate about history, not about the success of students.
Really one of the best teachers I have ever had. Really good guy who helped me whenever I needed it. Pay attention and read and write down EVERYTHING. A lot of what is on the test is random things from lectures that aren't on the PowerPoint. Hard but worth it.
He will try convince you that he is totally laid back and flexible. Don't believe it. Out of my entire high school and college career, I have never had a professor or teacher enrage me so incredibly much. He will insult you and your beliefs, and make you feel completely inadequate. His exams are bogus. He is incredibly impatient and unreasonable.
I took his 1301 and he was hard, but it is worth it, pay attention and write down everything! when i went to see him he told me, to write down every fact i though was important and i would do good, needless to say, i got an A, this other post here are from lazy people that dont want to study i bet. give him a try, awesome teacher! A++++
Hes a Liberal Revisionist and focus's on the unimportant things in history.. He will go through five chapters and then Nitpick Ten things from the chapters and expect you to write a paragraph about them on the test and will NOT give you so much as a hint to what will be on the test.
The first week of class was extremely hard, but once you know what to expect, just do it! He is extremely helpful (if you ask for help BEFORE test day). Yes-- he does go off topic, but relates it somehow to the topic at hand. Just a note-maybe if you learned some grammar and spelling, college might not be so hard.
His teaching is extremely bias.I can tell he lives for history.I believe teachers should "teach" with an open mind. If your on his favorite list, you will do fine no matter what. On the exams, if he doesnt agree with your answers he will fail you.I suggest befriending him the first week of class just to get on his good side otherwise your invisible.
He is very bias on his teaching and the grade he gives each student. He does not want to help even though he says he does.In my opinion going to his office during his office hours are a waste of time.Teachers like him makes me want to stop going to school. The book is a waste of money because he uses other resources that the students does not have. :
Honestly? He's not that bad of a professor. Play the game the way he wants it to be played, and you'll do fine. This means be friendly, ask questions/get involved in class BEFORE tests, & read the book and write out your chapter essays after class. He's really looking for you to collect information, and be interested in the class itself.
He is actually pretty cool. The majority of my classmates complained about his lectures, tests, and assignments everyday, however I dont feel that they realized they took a summer class where things have to be fast. I took his class at NCTC and after just a 5 week course, I decided to minor in political science. Put a little effort into it.
I don't know why everyone is complaining about Politz. Took him for 2 semesters and he was great! Honestly it's really not that hard of a class, the people who are rating him negative are the ones who sit and don't pay attention, seriously ignore the haters, this is a genuine good, smart, funny prof. I would definitely recommend.
Politz was a cool guy and very funny, but tends to get off subject very often for long periods of time. If you enjoy Hist and want to be on subject, don't take this class. If you don't care & just want to pass, this class is for you. Politz WILL help you during office hours and WILL reply to email. I just wish he actually talked about Hist more.
If you are trying to breeze through history without expecting to STUDY and READ the textbook, then don't take Mr Politz. Every question, on each exam (multiple choice) was from the textbook. I have a different political leaning than he does, but I found him very fair. If you can't handle this class, don't study beyond an Associates degree!
If you want a challenge, take this prof. His tests are fair if you have studied. If you are looking to scrape by and not do anything in your class-don't take from Mr. Politz, if you are a lazy person you will definitely fail. Instructor is kind and helpful, very prepared and wants his students to succeed.
He knows the subject extrmely well. If you need help he will take the time to talk it out and claify things. If you keep up on your reading it is very easy, gives you a week for one chapter. Come to class, that is when he takes the time to explain everything. Overall I would suggest this teacher!
One of the better history profs. He really doesn't care what your slant is. Classes have a lot of vets, should say something, but he also appeals to Glee fans. His tests are easy one after every two chapters, and this doesnt waver from class to class. I've taken him four times now, and recommend him highly. He will make you smarter.
Would totally drink a beer with him. Class was fun cuz he made you enjoy, and he was a good hang during class. Horrible at names, but he joked about that every class. THink it was an act. Alot of what he does is an act.
REally helpful. I was sick, and all my other profs had me drop their classes. Mr. P offered his own time, and tutored me through everything I missed. He stressed everytime that an A was not out of reach. I cannot say enough about him.
Seriously. One of the best teachers I've ever had. This guy know his stuff, and really cares about his students. Obviously anyone who has said otherwise is full of themselves
Bought six books on history since this course. Crazy to say. Politz got me interested. Helped me get into UNT on a full ride with the essays skills he taught.
Has him for both 1301 and 1302 Great teacher. He gets a little off subject some times but really knows history. I would recommend him to anyone
His class is fairly difficult, but I don't really care about that. I just wAnt to get this credit and run. Oh, and for any one who cares hes completly cute.
He is not accommodating he changed his due dates for assignments and also changed the criteria for extra credit assignments. He was rude and did not let us turn in assignments early.
Mr. Politz is awesome, enthusiastic about teaching & his classes are a discussion not a lecture, so make sure you chime in to get points on your chapter outlines. He does not change due dates, he misspoke once about a due date but had the right date on the class announcements. Boo hoo. Took him for summer & planning to have him for 1302 later.
He knows his stuff and wants you to as well. Not the easiest class to keep up with, but I would have taken 1302 from him if I could have scheduled it. He'is very helpful if you are showing effort, but it is an exhaustive class.
Mr. P's been teaching, he said, since 2005. Our class had forty people, and from he said he's been teaching at two colleges since 2007. So that's like over 1000 students, and we only had like one person drop. This guy rocks. Show effort, READ, use the powerpoints, and if you dont get an A you cannot be helped. I'm at UT because of MR. P.
i think hes a great teacher. sometimes i have know idea what hes talking about though. the thing is i HATE history, but he accually made it interesting to me. and hes super funny
Mr. Politz is an awesome teacher. He definitely has a passion for teaching history, and involving his students in class discussions. Mr. Politz is also very funny, so that helps with motivation to cooperate in class! I recommend him to anyone who's looking for a great history teacher that is not boring!(I'm not sure why he has such a bad rating!)
Of all my teachers, Prof. Politz is by far the most engaging. He isn't overly difficult - this is college. If you're looking for a cake education, go elsewhere. If you actually want to learn not just the history but the reasons behind the events of history, take Politz's class. He's funny, intelligent and challenging. My favorite teacher at TCC!
Great prof. Knows his stuff extremely well, and regularly makes jokes to keep the class interested. He lets the conversation go as long as it stays productive. This class is a lot more enjoyable if you willingly participate, and he loves when questions are asked. If you are genuinely interested in American history, this is the class for you.
Taken him two semesters, and for college readiness courses. The exams are just defining policies and cases that still exist, and a choice of short answer prompts. I think it was 5/10 choices. He shares notes, and has online assignments. Fun, easy, and interesting.
Fun class, keeps it interesting by involving the whole class.
Classes are fairly engaging, and assignments aren't too difficult. If you're willing to work with him, he's pretty lenient with your grade. Just do the work and pay attention in class and you should be fine.
Great professor!
He is a great teacher. by far the best teacher ive ever had. very helpful and he is here to help you. No reason anyone shouldnt make an A
GREAT TEACHER TAKE HIM IF YOU TRY YOU WILL DO WELL
If you just pay attention in class, you will get an A. Discussions every class and no more powerpoints. Overall easy if you pay attention!!!
Keep track of your answers to the chapter questions because you might need them later to study for the test and be sure to do the online assignments.
Great prof. Pay attention, follow instructions, come to class. Makes it clear of what he expects to receive a good grade in this class. Its even better if you participate in discussions.
great history teacher
Great teacher! He knows the material, and has a passion for history. Advice to future students: be in class every class day, read, listen, be prepared, complete your homework. This teacher is great! I learned so much about history that I did not know before I took his class.
Mr. Politz will make you feel like you matter. He may seem hard, but truthfully he just wants us all to pass. I cannot say enough about how great a man he is, and believe strongly that if it wasn't form him I would have given up on school. Thank you Mr. Politz for that you've done for me.
Great teacher! Listen, take notes, read and complete your homework! Mr. Politz will help you experience success in his class.
Best professor I've ever had! Makes history interesting and at a level that even if you hated history you'd enjoy his class and the information.
Mr. Politz cares knows history man. Seriously. But I felt like each class was about me. I just took the second exam, bombed the first one, but man, by the end he got me giving a damn. The guy split us up buy our future jobs. I learned so much about my future job. Thanks Mr P
Mr. Politz is a very passionate history professor; he knows History like most people wish they did. He makes it simple to pass his class; just do the work, attend class, and participate. You will have a fun time learning the ways of our past.
Politz was great. Took 1301 &1302 what's great about him is the "cute" angle doesn't work on him. He wants every one of his students to use their brains and learn something. I did. Do the work, participate in discussions and you'll do well.
Mr. Politz Rocks. Sucks that TCCD hasn't given him electives. Would love a pop culture class by him. Dude watches everything. Not to mention his assignment make you do well.
Just finished Section Exam 2. Within 2 hours I had my exam graded. He gave us the ability to do corrections after to bring our grades to a 70, but that had to be done in like 2 days. Totally helpful
Before I took this class I looked on this website and I was terrified by everything that was said, but as it turns out, none of it was true! He is a terrific professor and I am 100% satisfied with the decision to take his class. I got an A in the class, but I did have to work for it! Take notes and do the daily work and you'll do awesome!
i hated history my whole life until Mr Politz. i am older & was always terrible horrible in history,75's and below cause profs were boring, monotone & exhausting. Mr Politz changed my whole perception even in a 3 hour class (boring!!)He knows it is BORING to some. but makes it fun cause he makes me think WHY it pertains to MY LIFE! He is awesome!!
politz cares what happens! He might be easy in the beginning, but sees who actually wants to succeed by putting in effort that might be why he gets strict in the end. JUST GO TO CLASS DO THE WORK!!! Its not that hard! He will make sure you succeed. Dont be lazy!!
Good teacher, knows the subject matter. Enjoyed the class very much.
I'm not a big "history buff" but Politz made this class not only easy to understand, but enjoyable as well. If you go to class, pay attention, and put some effort in, you'll for sure get an A. I took him for 1301 and 1302 and I loved him. If you want to make a good grade, and actually learn historical facts, then take Mr. Politz. He's the best!
At first I thought I would not be able to pass his class;I received and "A" after all. I have always liked history but when I finished his class, I came away with a greater interest and appreciation for the subject. Take his class, he will inspire you to do well and to learn about things that matter. Work hard, listen to him, get inspired!
Mr. Politz is an amazing professor. When I talk about what he does to other students they get jealous of his assignments. Why? Each class we prepare by going through his notes before class from president to president and in teams we choose on significant historical issue per slide. Coolest part; students create their own exams on the review date
Awesome guy just to talk to, takes interest in his studence and where they are headed in life. Also likes to help in any way possible, if you like a friendly chap who is nice and rather leainient take his class.
Great professor! Group based teaching. You really end up learning a lot. He gives the exact test ?'s a day before the test. Lets you have your phone or computer during class. Down to earth. Very knowledgeable! I had other classes to study for and make a high B in his class!
Great professor who keeps you interested in class and the history subject. Funny discussions and relatable. Basically just pay attention and study and you will pass! Highly recommended
very very very nice friendly easy going and clear, explains his material very clearly, best professor ive had in my education so far
Mr. Politz is by far the best, clearest, funnest, humorous and enjoyable teacher ive had in all the year of my education. i seriously enjoyed every day of it and appreciate his care and effort in teaching the material thoroughly.
Be careful when selecting him, I've had him twice and can say that he has the capability to be good BUT he will punish the class as a whole because of one person. When he is describing a test he is SOMETIMES specific. Overall I will not be taking his class again because I've seen enough
I loved this class. Chris Politz is a funny guy who makes the class enjoyable. I literally missed one day and didn't care to ever miss another. You don't need the book, either. If you study for the tests and keep a decent average, you may not even have to take the final. Seriously, take this class. You will NOT regret it.
Just started. Two weeks in. First class I shook his hand and thanked him. He puts us in groups by jobs. Then we as groups research lists per powerpoint of history stuff to find which means the most for our future. He gives all the test questions to study day 1.
He keeps the class very interesting and makes the content easy to understand.
You won't regret taking this professor
He is an awesome and easy teacher. His class is very laid back, and he makes everyone involved in class. He groups everyone up and goes over his focal questions. If you don't know the answer he walks through it with you. I highly recommend that you take his class!!
Mr. Politz's class was awesome! I loved every second of it. He really knows his information and he tells lots of stories that go with the things we talk about in class. He gives a bunch of extra credit and is really nice. I would really recommend him.
Very good teacher, doesn't hold back. Will always help with anything. Gives extra credit and notes. Just pay attention and do research and you will pass. It's that easy
Great professor! Just pay attention and join class room discussions. Also, if you have a question just ask. He goes above and beyond in helping to insure your successful.
Mr. Politz is great. Enthusiastic about his class. Adds humor quite a bit. Just join in to the discussion and do your work and the rest will fall into place. He places the responsibility on the student, which is needed. You will not be disappointed by taking him.
Mr. Politz tries hard to connect with students which is good. 3 exams (papers), few quizzes (mostly online). There are lots or random extra credit. The only thing that was kind of weird was he doesn't give feedback. you wouldn't know which ones you got wrong on the quizzes or the papers you wrote.
I had this teacher before but dropped because I thought he would be too hard. Bad decision. I took him again last summer and he was an amazing professor. You will not regret taking him. I would've made an A if I would've studied more.
BEST PROF EVER! I Absolutely HATE history, but he made it enjoyable and interesting! I've never met a prof that cares so much about his students! Just do your work and don't be afraid to ask stupid questions or join in class discussions - he likes to talk about his subject!
The assignments are easy, there's just a lot, usually one per class, but he doesn't really look over them, as long as you answer the questions, you'll get full credit. He's kinda weird, but it makes it interesting. He's made me mad a couple of times this semester, but all around good teacher.
His great a professor, tries his hardest to interact with students. If you are a history junkie he is the best professor. He lectures because he has too because people dont like participating. A little tough as long as you keep up with daily assignments and like to write essays you will be fine.
I thought I was going to do bad in this class because all his exams were essays but it was actually not that bad. All you have to do is set some time aside, do the research and answer the questions. His daily assignments are helpful because you are basically answering some of the exam questions and they are easy grades! He is a good professor.
Good professor, a lot of papers but, as long as you do something and participate in class you will be ok. I had an A and it was working and participating in class. YOU WILL LEARN HISTORY. He is good at it and really like for you to learn. I ll recommend him to everybody.
This professor has taught me more about history then I have ever learned in any other history class ever! Yeah he was tough, and some kids couldn't handle it, but I have the utmost respect for him as a professor. Go to class, do the work, don't make excuses and you'll love him. Skip class and whine a lot and he'll chew you up and spit u out failing
I took Politz for 2 consecutive years. His teaching style is different, but you really get what you pay for with him. You leave the class understanding how history applies to your life. His discussions are class based and rather comical making it a fun class to attend. He's an easy grader as long as you put forth the effort to do the work. TAKE HIM
take his class if you want an easy A I will warn you he's rude and all he does is promote his stupid tour business which is basically a grade that you have to pay for. he gives out easy grades if you do the work but is rude and talks to much BS. 25% of the class actually made it to the end bc of his BIG MOUTH. HE WILL LOOSE your DA but STAND UP2HIM
I've had good professors and bad professors, but this guy takes the cake. The material isn't hard, but you need to be a mind reader to know what he wants for test answers, as he asks questions with no relativity to what he taught. He expects you to retain random info and then somehow be able to piece it together logically in the tests.
Out of all my teachers that I've ever had, he by far is the worst. He makes rude comments and will get angry for no reason. Class started out with 30 people and by the final there were only 13 students left. His test are not clear at all and neither is the textbook. I suggest you find another professor instead of him.
His lectures are interesting. He goes fast so it's hard to take accurate notes. His online tests are completely different than what he lectured on. Thank goodness for google. We had to take the 1st test twice. He claims everyone bombed but we all thought he just lost them. He has up and down mood swings. Stay on him for extra credit he forgets.
Great Proff if you take notes and study you will get a A
Hilarious, and interesting lectures. He post all the notes/ slide shows online. First test was hard, then I learned how he liked things and ended with an A.
This teacher truly cares about his students and the success that they are working towards. I'm thankful for my time in his class and the lessons learned. Compassionate, rye, and a clear communication style made this class memorable and it's teacher unforgettable.
