His classes is full of fun topics and discussions .He assigns alot of reading of some short fun stories. He grades kind of average, but he putts enfasis on the format of the essays and sometimes does not read them if the format is wrong. He is cool teacher.

Overall he's a good teacher, doesn't teach those traditional boring English topics, more on popular culture. I'd recommend taking him for all your English classes. Very helpful and patient.
He is sucks....dont take his class~~
DONT LISTEN TO WHAT ANYONE TELLS YOU ABOUT CHRIS RAMOS. HE IS A VERY COOL TEACHER, HE ACTUALLY MAKES YOU WANNA GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY. IF I DID HIS CLASS WITH AN A IN 6 WEEKS YOU CAN DO GOOD TOO. TAKE HIM. `>;]
Do not ever try to take his class. Not helpful at all.
I took Chris's English 1A class during the summer and eventually ended up with an A in the course. He lets students redo an essay (only once, but fall or spring sem, he lets students redo 2) and he will also check students research paper for errors.
If u wanna fail Eng 1A, then you must* take this guy. Not helpful at all.
For those who say he's not helpful then they must have failed other english classes to have insulted such a fine teacher. Mr. Ramos is a very good teacher out of all the years I have been in school. Skip the traditional ways, this man will teach you what's going on now, not history!
ramos' class is interesting, however, it is not easy. i would not recommend this class. if i were you i would rather take a boring teacher that is easy, instead of ramos.
i had ramos for both 68 and 1A. he is totally awesome, and his class is so interesting. i'm guessing the people who have complaints about his class just didn't make an effort. it's not like we had to write hundreds of essays. he is so helpful, and i honestly think he is a great instructor.
No matter what enyone says this teacher is not helpful at all.If you want to fail English 1A take his class, you'll find out an f is not for fun.
Was more interested in his vintage clothing.
He is a real pain in the beginning, but once you get over the initial shock, you'll find him a rather nice person. Just follow his guidelines to the letter and have the tutors proof read your paper and you'll get an A.
chris ramos is the best english teacher ever!!!! paper topics and be related to teens and young adults. his wants you to follow a format, as long as you follow it, you'll have a good grade. yes he grades hard, trust me follow the format and you'll have an A. i learned so much in his class, that i felt smarter then my 1C teacher.
He is a good teacher. Very interesting. He grades hard and makes you think but he only does it to help you in the future.
Best English teacher I have ever had in all my schooling
Great guy, but be ready to work at a university level. he is very demanding. As long as you are ready to didecate time and SERIOUS thought to your 6-8 page papers, and research paperss. I barely passed with a c and i tried hard. Anal about grammer. Garanteed to become a better writer when finished. VERY DEMANDING. 1a: 4 6-8 page papers on Popular Culture and a research with approx 7 sources cited with notecards. Every paper needs adetailed Outline 1C: 4 to 5 research styled papers, Overall great class io
intelligent guy who is very down to earth and should start a cult. going to his class is as interesting as getting high. If you enjoy pop culture, pictures and writing take his class because he's too is a writer.
Easy class if you follow the directions. Interesting class where you can discuss anything and especially easy because it's all pop culture; therefore, easy to write essays on. Very fun english class.
not a very good teacher...if your a pop culture or movie freak you'll enjoy the class but if you have better things to do then watch tv and movies all day take someone else...i learned more in english 68 with k. cole then this teacher
I GUESS YOU CAN SAY HE IS A VERY COOL AND DOWN TO EARTH PERSON. BUT WHEN IT COMES TO ESSAYS AND RESEARCH PAPERS THEN IT STARTS GETTING A BIT TOUGH. THIS PROFESSOR IS VERY PICKY WITH HIS ASSIGNMENTS WHICH MAKES IT A HARD CLASS. BUT HE IS A COOL PERSON THOUGH, IT'S NOTHING AGAINST HIM BUT IT IS JUST A VERY HARD CLASS.
His class was interesting. Didn't do well on the first essay so i got intimidated that he graded hard, but then he grades pretty easy~ Interesting essay topics. got a topic atleast once a week or once every 2 weeks but its about fun common things so it wasn't that hard. teacher is very clear and helpful on things. i would'nt mind taking him again
If you need help in English, don't bother with Chris. You spend the entire period discussing politics and pop culture, ignoring anything that has to do with the class. He also has a bunch of ridiculous rules for formatting essays. He's a nice guy, but I get the impression he doesn't even like teaching English.
Good professor...easy if you pay attention...he is the easiest english 1a professor that i have heard of...even if he would have failed me i would have still recommended him because he is a really dedicated professor, he wants his students to be as successful as he is....really nice as well...TAKE HIM!!!!
Loved his class. Very good teacher and highly recommend. Easy A if you pay attention. Isn't on the scheduling for fall 06, and hope he hasn't left... Very easy to talk to and learn from. Makes sure you understand what's going on and works with you really well. I hope he'll be back soon as a 1A teacher. I was looking forward to having him in 1A. :(
He's not as terrible as people think. God forbid he actually be a college level professor. He's a great professor, and literally walks you through your essays. He revises them numerous times, and if you edit them with all the corrections, you get an A. Very good teacher, and makes the class interesting. You just have to listen and pay attention.
Unless you have beter things 2 do than watch movies and learn about pop culture, this class is terible. God forbid there would be a little english envovled. The essay grading is extreamly un-fair due to outrageous "MLA" rules. Eragance is also an isue. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Great instructor not recommended for slackers. Can be a little anal on the essays, but is very reasonable.
this class was interesting. It is easy if you pay attention because he talks about everything that we are supposed to write on. Essays are easy just pay attention on how he wants t formatted and you will do good. I took this in summer and he was awesome....looks a lil like carlos mencia with harry potters glasses...lol...fun dude!!!!
Chris is a very challenging, not difficult, teacher. He challenges you to think (and write), especially in 1C (which I also took him for). His format requirements are strict, but I guarantee you will use his outline format successfully throughout college. He will help you as much as you ask for. I got As in his 1A and 1C; it only takes effort.
I've never been scared in my life of failing english class until I took Ramos. He is extremely helpful and tells you exactly what he wants. He is a very nice guy if you get to know him. He is very challenging, but I assure you, you WILL learn something.
GOOD TECHER. TALKS ALOT, AND HARDLY HAS ANY HOMEWORK. HE IS A DOWN TO EARTH MAN, AND CAN GET OFF TRACK ALOT. BUT OTHER THAN THAT I COULD HAVE GOTTEN AN A+ BUT I SLACKED OFF ALOT. BUT OTHER THAN THAT EASY TESTS, EASY HOMEWORK, EASY A.
Took him at Citrus College for the equivalent of Eng1C. Highly recommend. If you turn in your essays early he looks them over and tells you what to fix so your paper is an "A." If paper is good enough as a rough draft he will give you the "A" right there. Great guy, intersted in helping his students transfer.
Great teacher
The worst professor I have ever had. If you want to learn something helpful, you should never consider him!
While he is a good teacher, he tends to be VERY picky on what he wants. If you make little mistakes he will count it against you. He also has his own MLA format you must follow. Just make sure to do everything exactly how he says it and he'll pass you. But getting an A requires you to be a very hard worker or be really good at english.
HE is an EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! very clear about what he wants out of his students and if u dont understand something he is always Very helpful! HE REALLY CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS AND HE WANTS THEM TO SUCCEED! take HIM!
cool teacher
great lecturer,no office hours, doesnt answer email, doesnt listen to voice mail, good luck trying to ask for help and getting ahold of him
he did talk a lot and make u feel easy for this class, BUT he graded really hard. btw he usually like to do in group and discuss about each chapters BUT dnt teach any about writing.
This teacher is very picky. If english isn't your favorite subject, and you're not good at writing, do not take him. He is a very difficult grader. If you didn't underline a sentence correctly on your essay, he'll give you an F without even reading it.
Hes fair guy! he tells u what u did wrong on your essays to get a "a" although he may be strict at times with grading it was very helpful
Great Teacher. If you contribute to discussion, he'll grade easier. Grades fairly, and lets you know what you did wrong. You also get to rewrite one or two essays, so you can follow his corrections and get an A on those essays. Decent amount of homework. Only the required essays which weren't too bad. Took him in winter, wasn't too hard.
Very good teacher. It is an easy class, you have to do 5 essays and read a VERY interesting book (yes, books can be interesting, i found out in this class!) you also have to write a research paper (8 pages and 4 resources). Overall, very nice guy and very helpful also;furthermore, don't drop, you can redo around 3 of your total 5 essays for an A-!
very interesting topics for essays and reading but a little harsh on grading the essays i took the class in the summer n only acouple of students got c's on their essays it was mostly d's and f's but you can re-do 3 out of 5 not test or quizzes which is great but journals for homework almost everyday. he does help out and tries to understand when y
book and essay topics are interesting make you really think but a little harsh on grading the essays i took the class in the summer and only a couple of students got c's on their essays it was mostly d's and f's but you can re-do 3 out of 5 no tests or quizzes which is great but journals for homework almost everyday. he does help out and tries to u
He is legit. Hes funny and he makes everything out of the book seem so interseting. There are 4 essays for the class. He grades so hard! Everything needs to be perfect in oder to get an A! I think that their are easyier english teachers than him so if your not willing to but in the time on your papers...than dont take him!
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! One of the best professor i had so far in college, extremely helpful, makes the class interesting. yes, the essay can be a challenge but if your not a procrastinator then you should A's the course, he does give redo's on the essay which is extremely helpful to boost up your grade. Overall, definitely recommended.also a great DJ
wellll, i took him a while ago... he was ok. He kept the class on task with good topics and debates relevant to the essays and reading material. The only harsh thing about him is the grades he gives you for your essays. Work hard! =)
Good teacher. He is kind and his class structure is nice. There are no test really just essays and some assignments that are not that much of your grade. If you can write well, take his class for an easy A with little work. If you dont write well. you will learn alot, but might fail. Overall good teacher and funnY! better than other engl teachers!
I took Ramos last fall. He's really interesting and very knowledgeable. You get really good laughs out of him. There are journals due everyday and essays every other week or so. He was cool at first, but after he got his evaluation he just dropped and become nonchalant and really didn't care about his appeal to students.
Great teacher. He's willing to help students who need it and has a lot of patience with those who are willing to learn. He's particular on his eassy formats but he prepares you ahead of time for what he expects. Overall he taught me a lot and his class was enjoyable.
Ramos, great professor, what i like alot about this prof. was the fact he gave redo's for essay's and he knows how to teach and entertain at the same time, don't drop. If you do bad on the essay, redo them and it boost your grade by a whole lot, can go up to an A-. Take him. Fun class. He looks kinda like Jason Bourne mix with Carlos Garcia lol.
Great Professor. The class isn't boring at all and its mostly on Pop Culture. 5 Esssays 3+rewrites depending on class status,1 Research Paper, plus 1 in class final. Very Helpful but will say you must earn your grade and try really hard for that A.
5 essays and a research paper w/ specific instructions. Can have 3+ rewrites depending on the class size. No tests/quizzes except for a final exam. Journals everyday. He is an extremely fun teacher and has interesting lectures everyday. His workload may seem intimidating at first, but you'll get through it. He is always willing to help his students
this guy is the man. one of the best classes i've taken in college. if you put in the work, you will do okay, you have to work though. man, this guy is hilarious. learning in an entertaining way. wish he taught more classes.
If you really want to improve your writting skill, do not take him.
AWESOME professor!! easy to understand.. but a slight perfectionist..He will intimidate you in the beginning.. but stick it through.. due all the work & ask questions.. you will be fine!
I took him over the summer. His class is probably similar to a university level freshman comp. class. He expects you to know how to write properly and encourages discussion. He always provides a specific format in essays and research papers that makes everything so much easier. Gives a lot of work but is justified because now I am a better writer.
You will definately improve your writing and if you ask for help, he will help you. Take his class he is not boring.
Assignments are well explained and he offers rewrites on at least 1 assignment. Be prepared to work hard for your grade.
He teaches this course at the university level. He's fair with grading. You will be asked to read a lot of essays for discussion, which help a lot in developing your own ideas. Very straightforward.
Great professor. Makes it easy to pass as long as you pay attention and listen to what he tells you when editing papers. If you just follow what he wants you to correct on rough drafts, you can basically get an A on papers. He also keeps it interesting by incorporating pop culture into the class.
He is very helpful. You will have to work hard to get an A, but is worth it in the end.
He's a little anal about the structure of essays, but is very helpful. His grading is a little on the difficult side, but it wasn't too bad. Towards the end of the semester, he makes you write a 7 to 10 page long paper though.
I took him for English 68. He is great! I am going to take him for 1A. You work for your grade. Take if you really want to learn.
The class is based off watching/reading about movies and discerning meaning from them to write essays. Very tough professor. Highly liberal minded, which crosses over into the material of the class. Doesn't really teach English, expects student to know how to write at an university level before hand. Lots of time consuming homework. Be warned!
Requires a great deal of work from the english book. A vast amount of reading as well. Expects essays written at University level coming in to class. Tough teacher and his liberalistic ideas tie into the class material. Class consists of watching/reading films then writing essays about them.
You will write a ton of papers and must be at University level. He can be a little anal about grading and essay structure. Class consists of watching movies and a lot of text book reading and essay writing. He does help if you ask. But you will WORK for your grade. Not a bird course at all.
He is very helpful if you ask him. You wil need to talk to him one on one to get the exact answers you need. He will tell you exactly what you need to get an A. The class consists of writing essays based on movies and if you enjoy writing, he will help you improve, and learn. Hes very interesting and such a great teacher.
Great professor. Lectures on interesting topics and really makes the class fun. At first, his essays may seem intimidating because he can be pretty picky when it comes to the format. But you'll come to find that he's not really a hard grader. If you put in enough time and effort into your essays, an A won't be hard to achieve.
This class can be VERY stressful and tme conuming if u dont prioritize your time well. Out of my 36 classmates that were there in the beginning there was only 11 in the end and i think even less in the other his other class. You work ur ass off in this class so dont Slack! He's not clear so u must ASK questions! Expects alot out of his students..
Ramos is a very cool/ chill guy. His book is difficult and the work may be time consuming at times but just follow the format and youll be good. He lets you fix last minute mistakes, gives rewrites, and late work. He is here for you to succeed. That being said his class is pretty tough.
DICTIONARIES/THESAURI ARE ESSENTIAL. The class focuses on film, but you don't just sit around and watch movies -you analyze them. Essays are TIME CONSUMING. FOLLOW HIS FORMAT FOR ESSAYS/OUTLINES! Also, don't be afraid to take your time reading -it's well worth it. Use references to make yourself sound smart -he appreciates it. Great+intelligent guy
This is a really cool teacher. He understands all walks of life you will discover a lot about yourslef in this class. His class is not hard but you just have to stay on top of your reading and essays. I would recommend this teacher to anyone. Very informative understanding and cool overall. TAKE HIM!!!
Come to class, watch movies, and have discussions. Can be enjoyable until you realize, its an English class that he isn't teaching in. It's apparent when you get your first essay back. He gives you your papers back late and sometimes doesn't even write on them. If you need a teacher who is dedicated and cares about his students, look elsewhere.
After 68,teachers expect you to know grammar n dont teach it, so classes are focused on discussion that provoke u to think.hard book to understand, just find key point n that support ur quotes.Tough class but not too bad if u have good grammar.Ramos actually care about u as a person/student.Super friendly, actually cares about u.Hes a homie. Not ez.
I love this professor I had him for 68 and 1A. I had to take 1A 2x because his class was hard, yet still very enjoyable that I could not have picked a different professor with me already knowing what I was getting myself into. You will need the book and you will read the whole textbook.
It is hard, if you don't know how to prioritize your time enough so that you can handle the class, you might as well wait for a different English class to open up. I'm serious.
awesome professor! a little tough on essays but he's a great professor. definitely recommend.
Ramos is an absolutely amazing hilarious English teacher. He chooses topics that are provocative and interesting which will never give you writers block. There is alot of work in this class but with proper time management it actually isn't that bad. He uses films which you watch in class almost everyday and have class discussion afterwards.
I LOVED this professor. Like everyone here, he is not easy. Truly makes you work for your grade, but why shouldn't he? We are in College. Class was interesting I even kept the book :) Recommend for those who want to improve their writing. He is picky but not too bad! Take him!! :)
Awesome teacher! I have never been so challenged to write the perfect essay, and succeeded! He really makes you think about the essay topics. Uses a lot of films. His discussions were so easy to really get in to, and I had a lot of fun! If you are up for a challenge, with amazing results, take this teacher!!
Ramos opened my eyes to many topics on society and the reality of the world, great professor; you will learn ALOT. funny, great discussions, never boring, he's a "george lopez" kind of guy :) haha, though essays are stressful, i survived. just try, and give it a chance. def recommend
Okay teacher. Overloads you with work, essays and reading comprehensions at the same time. The 5th essay is really useless and the class is working on a 8 page research paper while doing the 5th essay. Prepares you for what's to come in the future though. But geez, too much work.
He prepares you for how college writing should be. Has his own format. A lot of work. Take him if you really want to learn.
If you really like writing then I'm sure this class wouldn't be that difficult, but in my opinion he assigns way too much work. He doesn't care that students have other classes, and some even have jobs too. It felt like there was an essay due every week and if you mess just one thing up on the format of the essay, he gives it an F.
Took him Fall 2012. He assigns a lot of essays and gives you an F is there are any format mistakes. He takes a long time to give back essays so by the time you figure out the format error from your first essay you may have already received 3 F papers. I recommend this class for anyone who enjoys difficult courses.
okay teacher but very hard when it came to grading essays... he expects a lot...i'm a typical B student when it comes to English and i thought his class was very difficult..i'd recommend someone else
horrible teacher
This class is very difficult! takes a long time to give back essays and is very strict on formatting, but he gives you all the tools to get a good grade you just have to stay on top of the work. Although tough, he is a really funny teacher that explains things well.
Offers extremely helpful information and guidance for both inside and outside the classroom. Creates a strict learning environment in where you're challenged and rewarded for diligent effort; furthermore, successful completion of his class will prepared you for upper division coursework and beyond. Not for coasting students who want an easy class.
This class is not impossible to pass but you MUST put in the effort to get the grade you want. Make sure you FOLLOW the format and you will be fine. He gives you ideas on what you could do your essays on and he's kind of funny and sarcastic at times but not a bad teacher. Take this class only if you are willing to put time and effort.
Great professor. His outline format for essays has helped my write every paper so far in college. A good amount of work (don't take him in intersession, unless you have the time)but definitely worth it. If you pay attention and actually f***ing work like a college student should, you'll get an A.
HARDEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. i am a freshman, and as my first college level english class it was impossible. He basically just assigns essays and short stories, the essays are impossible to get more than a C on. SAVE YOURSELF THE STRESS AND TAKE ENGLISH 101 WITH A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR.
Ramos takes his job way too seriously. He acts as if this were a University MASTER'S DEGREE class. His requirements for his assignments from the layout to the actual word count are overwhelming. All of my friends taking the same ENG 101 course with other professors had way shorter assignments with way less requirements. RELAX CAPTAIN ENGLISH GUY.
Ramos is a tough teacher and expects a lot from you. But overall I think his bark is worse than his bite. A LOT of work. He loves giving F's is you do not follow the format exactly. He will let you do re-writes on essays, at least the first few. Expect to work very hard.
This class is ridiculous!! DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!! He doesn't teach, overwhelming criteria for his assigmnets and boring class!!!
Took this class spring 2012 it was TERRIBLE! Doesn't teach & demands A LOT if anything is messed up on the format it is an automatic F! I was so stressed and over whelmed I knew I wasn't going to pass so I stopped showing up I can honestly say this has deterred me from taking another Eng class
Take this class if you want to be prepared for college after a JC. It was not the easiest class and you have to do all your work.. duh it's college! Overall, he is a great teacher. One of my favorites at Citrus. I defiantly learned a lot from him. If you want to do the same, take him! Cool guy!
Really good professor. Prepares you for classes at UC and CSU's. A lot of work but the class is worth it. Makes every other class seem easier.DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON RESEARCH PAPER LISTEN TO RAMOS! He wants people to pass and is willing to help as much as possible.
Great professor! He is rather hard but very helpful. I totally messed up on the research paper & figured I was going to fail the class, but nope. As long as you do you work and keep up (easy to fall behind) youll do great. If I wasnt for my research paper, im sure I would of gotten a way higher grade. I usually get A's & B's in English.
Really cool guy and easy to talk to! Makes a lot of jokes but is a really tough grader.
I really enjoyed him as a Professor, do your essay and you will be fine! He will make you work for that A paper!
By far the toughest grading professor I have ever had. One mistake made in parenthetical documentation, its game over. Ex: if you cite an author and its supposed to be (Wendon 546) and you put (Wendon 54) its an automatic F. He has tons of formatting rules like that. It matter not how great the rest of the paper is, he doesn't even read the rest!
Tough grader. Always check paper for errors, A simple error can ruin your paper. Easy to talk to. Do the work and edit your essay and you'll pass. Make sure your documentation is correct. He comes off strong but is a good professor all around.
Very funny professor, but he is a tough grader. We're allowed rewrites for an essay we don't do good on. Also, we spend most of the time talking about problems that occur in society today and he's very engaging and easy to talk to. If you participate, you'll have fun!
Mr. Ramos is a very straightforward and honest teacher that makes you work for the grade you want. The class is basically 5 essays, journals and a research paper. He gives you a chance to rewrite 3 of the essays. Very engaging and a really cool guy. Take his class if you want to learn how to write a decent paper.
Ramos is a straightforward teacher. If you aren't going to put it work don't take the class. He does hand out F's. Started with 40 kids and ended with about 8. I turned in work on time and followed his format. It's possible to earn an A. He is more comical than strict. I really liked Ramos. I took this in the summer so everything was fast paced.
Class is mostly movies and talking. He has daily journals 4 essays and a research paper. He does not teach anything. His criteria is so demanding though knowing freshmans are at different levels. If you start with a class of 40 and lose 20 within the first week I'm sure its not the students its the teachers ecpectation of freshmans.
Professor Ramos may give you an F for something small, but he gives you a clear checklist of what he wants. He also gives you plenty of time to proofread and allows you to redo your papers at times. Ramos' lectures are interesting and often funny so class isn't too bad. Make your papers interesting too.
Ramos is a pretty straightforward Professor. He tells you what he wants exactly how he wants it. One slip up can result in one of your essays becoming an F. He's funny and helps you out if you need it. He gives you feedback on the essays and gives you 1 rewrite. He's a tough grader to be prepared to revise all of your essays.
Hes a great professor, those who gave lousy reviews didn't make use of his feedback, or rewrites. He prepares you for college/university level expectations. Learned a lot, and would take him again!
He tells you how to pass the course. Follow his instructions and you'll be fine. His requirements are tough, but they push you to do better. Even though it was tough, I learned a lot and would take one of his classes again.
I took Ramos in the Winter for English 1A. He tried to scare us off by saying he gives lots of Fs. Honestly just master his outline technic and do all your journals. Spend time on your essays and let him look at it beofre you turn it in for feedback. I was shocked by how people did not follow his format it's basically your entire grade.
He asks for too much of a course given at a community college. He expects you to know everything and then wonders why nobody wants to take his class. The guy is the biggest closet case I have ever encountered in my life.. I took the class anticipating to pass it but he made it impossible no matter how hard I tried my papers were never good enough.
Take hime! He teaches his students a lot of useful knowledge that will be used at four year universities. However, you are a slacker don't take him. His class is very enlightening, at times he is very negative towards social issues he makes some valid points.
Very picky when it comes to essays, assigns too many in little amount of time, unreasonable teacher, can be funny but biased in his views
I took Ramos for the Fall semester and I have to say he really pushed me. His class is not for you if you are procrastinator. He is a tough grader, but gives you feed back on all mistakes made in your paper. There are no test, just straight up papers. This class will prepare you for the upper level English classes. Don't take if uncommitted.
Professor Ramos is very clear from day one what is expected from the student. If you are a procrastinator, you will not do well. He is a tough grader, but if you stick it out and again follow his criteria of what he wants in his outlines and essays, you will learn how to write a proper paper. He is an excellent teacher. Are you a good student?
Ramos is very clear what is expected of his students from day one. There is a lot of writing involved in his classes, but all of the class time is used for watching movies, discussing issues, and going to the library. His whole class is focused around human rights and it is very interesting. Would definitely recommend.
I had the pleasure of taking Professor Ramos a few years back. I entered this class unaware of punctuation and sentence structure. Years have passed and this class remains to be the most Influential. I have obtained my BA in English and I could not have done it without this class. Professor Ramos, thank you so much. -A future English teacher
Okay so shall be my honest review about Prof. Ramos in Winter 2017. He is an easy-going person to talk to, loves to engage in discussion and provides personal stories related to the topics. But he is a hard grader, looking for specific points in essays. I did about 3-4 essays, 1 research paper and many journals relating towards readings.
Take this class if you want to fail. Seems like he really likes giving F's. He's super picky, if you don't follow his outlines you will fail ALL your essays because he grades based on format. If you're a procrastinator you will NOT pass. Participation matters. The class started off with 30 students, last day only 6 remained.
I took Professor Ramos for summer 2017! Taking english in a 6 week course means more work! I honestly have to say that most of the work we did was essays. I learned a lot from him and he explained everything so well. He is a hard grader but he does it so we're ready for english 1A.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He's super charismatic so you get lulled into thinking it'll be fine but you will suffer. Impossible to access outside of class & never responds to emails. I have taken UC and calstate over the course of 3 years an never had such a tough grader. Pretty smug about it too. The other review calling demoralizing is right !
Funniest cat I've ever taken. Keep at it Ramos.
BEWARE! The MOST nicest teacher with a cool personality, but he is the toughest grader out there. Essays have to be polished like if your life literally depended on it. Prepares you well but if you fail his 4 essays, you basically fail the class 1 line short can F. NOT accessible out of class either. Nice but REALLY harsh grader is all i can say.
Professor Ramos gives interesting lectures and shows movies. Hes a tough grader on essays. I took his winter class so its fast and seems like a lot of work. 4 essays, one final essay(take home), and a research paper (topic must relate to something learned in class or that we will learn in class). He allows 2 rewrites.
Ramos is best described as: "Fastidious and Persnickety" (per Ramos) but don't let that scare you, he also has a cheerful and joking persona if you pay attention. People either love or hate him,( the lazy ones) just pay attention, take notes read the stories ,write the papers you will pass class knowing how to properly write MLA and APA papers.
Had him for ENG1A winter 2017 and was really surprised by how much I enjoyed his class. The class discussions were always interesting. There was a significant amount of homework though b/c it was a condensed semester. He is always willing to help his students with any homework or papers. Overall, I received a fair grade for the work I put in.
He doesn't give clear feedback on his essays and is also non-responsive to emails and patronizing when you ask a question Extremely harsh grader, gave me 2 F's on my essays and didn't even read my papers!! This guy is just not a quality professor, probably why he's part time. Doesn't offer any extra credit and hmwk was due by 12pm on Sundays.
HORRIBLE teacher. He gives so much homework in addition to 4 essays and a 10-15 page research paper, and doesn't even give sufficient and clear feedback when you get them back. His grading guidelines are also very strict, and he doesn't do much to help his students improve. Class was also very boring; 2 hour discussions was all we did.
Honestly Im not the best student in the world, but I really do try and give my all in my classes. This class was literally the hardest class I have ever taken. Ramos is really anal about his papers and the structure in which he wants them. He acts like his class is the only class students are taking with all his requirements. save yourself !
This classroom is where a passion for english and writing come to die.
he takes grammar, format, due date, participation seriously. Homework is the journals based on multiply essays in the book, overwhelming if u take it on summer/winter. reads email but rarely replies. he always get excited and share his stories in his lecture. you'll get 1-3 rewrites on yr essays, take yr chances, and research paper required.
Only there to listen to himself talk. The number of students left at the end of the semster speaks volumes about the quality of his class.
