one of the worst
He certainly doesn't give the easiest tests, but he's an excellent teacher. The course is generally hard but if you ask him questions and talk to him after class he'll see that you're trying and will definately help you out.
Till today...i have no clue on what the exams were. His lectures and exams are totally unrelated. I have no idea how i passed. I'm confused about him.
Horrible teacher, doesn't care about students
You think you get it... but when you take the test, then comes the curve ball. It takes about three exams before you "get him"... He also tends to play favorites. Yeah, he's smart...knows what he's talking about but not the most compassionate
No Comments
His tests were extremely complicated and difficult. He was very unhelpful if you needed assistance with a concept. He did not seem to care whether you understood or not. His lab was a nightmare!
The hardest class I've taken and he's not an easy teacher. Knows his stuff but you better not be late to class or be a goofball, he's got no patience for those people. Tests were hard and a lot of it was essay; I heard they're multiple choice now.
he's insane!! He makes the class so hard! The study guides were literally 20 pgs. We had to include 25 words he listed in one answer!! Imagine that for 20 pgs. Anyway this class is a suicide mission.
The subject is difficult enough without having to deal with a heartless teacher. Very cut and dry, black and white and as far as asking a question in class, forget it, he will make you feel stupid. By the way, he does not belive in make ups. Youre sick, youre assed out. Good luck.
This is the worst teacher I have very had.He is very unhelpful and very rude.
He is an excellent teacher. He really makes you work and learn. His field class was an organized learning experience, not a vacation! I wish he had more field classes.
I came into the class eager to learn and apply. I didn't like his style. I felt like he was lecturing to a bunch some Ivy Leage alumni on the subject. Not personable to me. He doesn't offer help in lab and is very academic. I wished I'd known and not wasted time.
Reigle is the best. He teaches bio 12 not 11. Rodriguez does. The bad scores sound like Rodriguez. Rodriguez will not help you at all and excepts you to learn all the bones. For Bio 11 take Harrison at saddleback. Reigle is helpful and is extremly nice. He will go the extra mile for you...
i didn't like the teacher at all, very snobbish and played favorites to the 'favorites' ... very unhelpful in lab, it is a total nightmare. although i scored well in his course he is rude, arrogant, on his high horse and comes to class with a major chip on his shoulder.
He is a hard teacher for physio but has a lot of knowlege. If you go to his office hours with your essay questions typed out then he will go over them with you and help you to make corrections. I thought I was going to get a B but I ended up with an A and I thought I was going to pass out!
He is a very kind and intelligent professor. He knows his physiology, and explains it well. None the less, the subject matter is difficult regardless of the teacher. A good grade is feasable, but be prepared for a lot of studying and difficult multiple choice questions.
good luck b/c you're need it. if you're not one of his favorites, do bother trying to get help from him. just keep quiet and pray to the almighty.
Even though lectures were very challenging, Riegle was extremely helpful during office hours. He helped me break down questions I had so that I came to the conclusion without him telling me straight out. Vey good professor who expects you to learn and not waste his time.
It's a very tough class, and you really have to adapt to his teaching/testing style, but he's really cool. GO TO HIS DISCUSSION AND DO NOT MISS A SINGLE CLASS! Read all of his power points and look over the study guide. The key is to link everything together. Literally, like he says, sit there and think about it, focus. But really, he's a great guy
His discussion is very helpful to add to the lecture. He really cares about you actually learning the material which is why his tests are the way they are. You absolutely have to work for your grade and adapt to his style, like most teachers, but you can tell he knows who's really working hard and he definitely pays attention and tries to help.
I was very interested in Physiology prior to this class. Now I'm just baffled. This class was hard enough without the prof, but he decided to make the class more convoluted. He doesn't lecture in a smooth, flowing manner. Almost as if there is no lessson plan. His test questions often don't make sense. Tip: make sure you go to his discussion class.
This was my second time taking this class, it was very difficult and you need to go to every class. do not miss one! very educational you learn alot riegle was nice if you went out of your way to get to know him.
i read the required text readings, read his power point, recorded his lectures and listened to them, and did his study questions; yet, my highest test score was a low "b". he seemed nice, but in reality he isn't unless you're one of his favorites. i developed a stomach ulcer b/c of his class.
I think he was ok. People say he iss hard but I have had much harder professors in the UC system. If you ask him a question, he'll give you a long explanation. Everything is on powerpoint lecture. Sometimes his explanation runs too fast. Be careful with this professor. You can start with an A and end with an C. Just to let you know, I got a B.
He is the worst professor I have ever had. His lectures are unorganized, the tests don't make any sense, and he was never around during labs. He also grades your lab book based on how much he likes you and not on it's contents. My friend and I turned in the exact same labs everytime, and he gave me a "C" on the book and her an "A".
BORING. i liked the subject before i got into this class. he's a good teacher but half way through the course i was asking myself WHAT? a lot. it deals with lots of cycles and they accumulate so don't miss a class or youre screwed.
he sucks!!! doesnt explain concepts well, talks nonsense, and the lab is a joke. plus, he doesn't even take the time to email his students back. the worst class ever!
A VERY HARD TEACHER! YOU ASK HIM A QUESTION AND HE RESPONDS WITH A QUESTION FOR YOU, DOESNT ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS DIRECTLY AND TREATS YOU AS THOUGH YOU ARE STUPID, HIS TESTS ARE REMARKABLY HARD, HE WORDS THEM DIFFRENT THAN HIS STUDY GUIDE. WOUDLNT RECOMMEND AT ALL UNLESS YOU ARE BIO MAJOR AND KNOW YOUR STUFF WELL!
Not an easy class but I really liked the guy and found him inspiring. He's passionate about the material. Really tests you on the concepts. Took it over the summer and got an A. I was too scared of him to ask any questions, but if you just go over the material again and again, you'll do ok.
I think he is a very good teacher, his lectures are very organized and he delivers very well. His labs are bad.The lab book takes a lot of time and he is very anal about it.If you want to learn he is a good teacher to take, but forget about getting an A in his clas, it is virtually impossible
He is one of the best teacher at IVC! He really wants you to learn and very dedicated to his students. I don't know why he's getting some of the bad reviews. You'll learn a lot from him and how to organize your thoughts.
Terrible. Would not recommend what so ever. Totally plays favorites. He won't answer your question if you are not his favorite. Lab books are incredibly hard. He is very anal in grading them and will take off points for the most ridiculous things. Tests are hard. I am an A student and I failed
I think Professor Riegle is a kind & wonderful professor. He really cares about the students and the material he teaches. Just work hard, ask questions, and attend his discussion class. I received an "A" and it was worth all of my effort. He truly gives you all that you need to succeed. This is not an easy class so only come if you are prepared.
Labs require an inordinate amount of time. Teaches style is not very user friendly.
Do not take this class! Worst teacher ever. An "A" student, got a C in this class. Unfairly hard. Plays favorites, grades extremely hard. Very anal. His tests are impossible the way he words them. He makes the simplest task extremely hard with how he words things. If he gave you directions to the corner store, you would get lost. Stay away!
Hes a decent professor, but he does make you work for an A. As for A students getting C's, here is a reality check that maybe your not an A student.
Avoid Reigle at all costs! Very unhelpful and not willing to help you unless you've satisfied "his" prerequisites since there aren't any! I am the last one to blame the teacher and in this case I am making an exception suck it up and take it at Saddleback!
IF YOU ARE READY TO TAKE THE HARDEST CLASS OF YOUR LIFE TAKE HIM! HE IS UNREASONABLY HARD. LAB NOTEBOOKS ARE FOR YOU TO RECORD YOUR DATA IN AND FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND. WELL NOT IN THIS CLASS HE IS SOOOOOO ANAL! IT MUST BE HIS FORMAT AND ABSOLUTLY PERFECT. I AM AN EXTREMLY HARD WORKER AND HAVE NEVER BEEN SO LOST BEFORE. HE DOESN'T TEACH, HE EXPECTS Y
a hard class with a difficult teacher. But very knowledgable and his lectures were interesting and fun at times. Even though i was struggling in the beginning of the semester, once you get the hang of his teaching style and the way he wants his lab book, it gets easier. And he's definitely a nice guy; even lenient IMO. Just keep up, and STUDY hard.
i really enjoyed this professor. he isn't an easy professor. he makes you learn the material so that you won't ever forget it. i honestly appreciate professor like him because he is passionate about the material and very knowledgable. i think if you studied the material before class and right after class you wont have a problem, i promise!
here is some advice: 1. follow the study guide 2. attend class & discussion 3. ask questions (he is more than willing to answer questions) 4. lab quizzes: simply ask him what he wants and he'll literally tell u what is on the quiz. (no mystery here). 5. a 72% is a cutoff for a B in his class. so he is very fair. 85% cutoff for an A so just relax
he is a super hard professor! Dont expect an easy class! I would take it with someone else if i had the chance again. His Lab notebooks are very hard aswell. Save yourself the stress and take another teacher. I passed his class but i dreaded everyday of class he was very dry!!!
I took Physiology or Bio 12 with Riegle. He does a great job at explaining the class topics. He is a teacher who genuinely cares about his students understanding the material. The people who complain about him are the ones who want a good grade without the work. His tests / quizzes are only confusing to those that do not make an effort to learn.
He is a great professor. Stick to the study guides and discussions is a must. He is more than willing to help if you need it. Those who thought he was hard, probably didnt expect to study. the material is difficult. But he is a great professor!
Just finished up his 6 week summer class! Word to the wise for future students, YOU ABSOLUTLEY HAVE TO PUT THE TIME NEEDED INTO PHYSIOLOGY! I can't stress that enough! I took this course in 6 weeks and got a B on top of work! Take Phys in a regular semester to save yourself some stress!
I took his 6 week summer course, and let me tell you, HARD!! I ended up dropping, but not b/c he wasn't a good professor, it was just not good timing for me. Riegle is a pretty cool guy, and you have to study, it's a must! He gives you all the tools you need to succeed. LAb notebooks are a bear though, do them EXACTLY as he says!
Took his 6 week summer course along with Chem 4. I ended up with a B. I don't work so I spent 4 days a week at school (12+ hrs a day) with a majority of my time spent on this class. It's hard but not impossible. Yes, your lab notebook is important but it and the quizzes are only 25% of your grade. Focus on the tests 75% of your grade!
Dr. R is an awesome teacher ! I learned more from his class than any others I took at a 4 yr college. His tests are hard and takes a lot of thought. You need to understand the material, and not memorize it. Holds office hours everyday so if you have problems he's always willing! Got an A in the class and by god did I have to work for it!
One of the best professors I've ever had. Yes, the class is hard because if you don't understand what you're memorizing, you'll be doomed on quizzes and tests. Very clear, helpful, and funny. If you're a bio major and wish to set up a strong base foundation, I highly recommend you take him.
Loved his lectures. *Hated* his lab quizzes. Lecture exams were hard, but reasonable if you study. The lab notebooks are insane. Overall I enjoyed the class, but it was exhausting. Take the optional discussion class!
This class is very hard only b/c u need to spend HOURS paying attn to detail when studying. Lectures are interesting, labs were a pain ESP the lab notebooks. Lab quizzes are important: 2/3 of ur grade and he is very specific on grading. u won't pass the course if u don't pass lab no matter ur lecture grade. u need to dedicate ur life to this class
He gives you all the materials you need to pass but the rest is up to you, so prepare to study A LOT! Short essay quizzes every other week, 4 exams, & comp. essay final. Going to class is a must because his lectures are VERY helpful! overall I learned a lot & I respect him as a prof. Oh and there's very good curve on final grades! 72-84% B, 85%+ A
Incompetent lab instructor. tough grader but doesn't hold himself to the same standards. he wrote his own lab manual (many errors), confusing, and he docks pts for everything. be careful. he doesn't grade on curve. he is not approachable and loses quizes so keep all your papers and expect hours deciphering what he wants for lab book.
Great professor--he really knows his stuff. He's very intelligent and explains things very well. He may seem a bit unapproachable, but if you ask him a question, he will answer it for you thoroughly. The key to his class is recording his lecture and listening to it--it definitely helps! oh, and DO NOT procrastinate in this class! stay on top of it!
HARD HARD
If you are a bio major, take this class! You will learn so much. He is amazing.
I am currently at Georgetown nursing school. I know people say Prof Riegle's class is hard, but the amount of pertinent information learned in his class will help you wonders in nursing school. I find that I am basically reviewing and applyting what I learned for pathophys. I feel so ahead of the game. I would recommend taking this class!
Honestly, he's very good. Very intelligent and can convey the information to his students well. He is not an easy A, but he teaches the material as a big picture, always tying everything back together. He taught chem to us better than my chem teacher. Go to lecture, you'll learn and understand better than trying to read out of the book.
Riegle is very smart and helps you learn biology in a new way that connects everything together. It's a hard class and a lot of material but overall I thought he was a good teacher. He is more than willing to help you and is very good at explaining things. IT's just a hard clas sin general! I would recommend him
He is hard!!! I barely got a C, but I had to work sooo damn hard. He has favorites.
Terrible Teacher. Might be the smartest teacher i've ever had but doesn't know how to teach. Makes exams like MCAT which not everyone needs and never returns emails. Always refers to "chem" when some haven't even taken the course. Going to calss is basically pointless since all he does is read the ppts. Don't take this course
Ugh, I'm a biology major transferring to UCLA. I'm here to rate this professor. He is quite difficult. I mean yes, in life, some teachers are hard, but I was running into brick walls. I studied, & I failed. If you must take him, listen all the time. EVERYTHING is pertinent to his tests: stories and HW questions. I got a C based of his scale
Professor Riegle is a bit intimidating at first glance but he is actually a very nice man. He is very clear in lectures. He overloads you with studying material which include study questions, study notes/guides, power points, and unit essays. The study work is a bit much but is okay if you're willing to put in the time.
I got an A in this class! Prof Riegle is one of the best professors i've ever had! He teaches the material VERY WELL in the class if you pay attention. His power points are very helpful. The exams are hard BUT fair! You have to study a lot if you want to get an A but it is not an impossible class! I love professor Riegle he is very smart and nice!!
He is very nice and funny. Sometimes his stories in class relate little to the topic. He tells you what is going to be on the class, but you must put in a lot of time to do well. Tests are clear and straight forward and if you study you will do well. His curve is fairly generous, so don't worry too much... (86+ is an A, 73+ is a B, 60+ is a C)
Dr. Riegle is one of the worst professors I have ever had. I already have a bachelors from a UC and I have never experienced such poor teaching "skills". He is unapproachable, rude, and does not care about his students. He acts like this is a med school class and expects you to learn like a med student. He is ridiculous. Good thing he's retiring!
Dr. Riegle is a fantastic teacher! While the subject of physiology is intrinsically difficult, his lectures, on-line material, and review sessions serve to make the material *much* more accessible. He is a strong lecturer, has voluminous supra-textual material to aid students, and is, thus far, one of the best teachers I have had (2nd degree here)
I have 2 degree and he is by far the worst teacher i've ever had. Powerpoint is useless, review package is huge..then non-existant later in the course, have to word answers like he would speak...so giving the right answer doesn't mean you will get any points for it...and the lab book is ridiciouls...and not worth much either!
Tests and quizzes are extremely hard. Tests are like the MCAT, and quizzes basically require you to use his wording. Textbook is required for power point slides, but otherwise is useless as he doesn't follow it. Power points are useless, and study guides lack explanation. Should have listened to friends and avoided him. Not recommended at all.
He has completely unrealistic expectations. Quizzes are essay format, in which you are basically expected to regurgitate exactly what he's said in the study guides -- put too much detail or too little and get marked down. Exams are multiple choice and awful. Avoid him if you can.
Not recommended. Can't teach without going off topic. Tests are incredibly hard, quizzes seem to be graded according to how he feels, and he is not approachable at all. Takes him a month to grade a quiz, and we won't have all of them before we take the final. Study guides are worth very little, and has no good study materials. Glad he's retiring.
If you haven't taken any bio before, this class is hard. Riegle's stories are interesting but he teaches this class like his physio class & puts MCAT-like questions on the exams. Quizzes are essay and graded on keywords - use his study guide. Loved his scale: 86%A, 73%B. He just retired but will probably be in Mammoth this winter.
Riegle is difficult to understand because his explanations lack clarity and often times beats around the bush - there never appears to be a straightforward answer. His quizzes are ridiculous given that he wants you to regurgitate exactly what he says word for word in his study guide. Without a doubt, he is the worst teacher I've come across.
Professor Riegle is an amazing Professor, very helpful, and very knowledgable. This class is difficult and requires a lot of study time. The quizzes are on the exact topics he teaches, no hidden questions. I recommend Riegle if you are really interested in learning.
WORST TEACHER AT IVC HAND DOWN> AVOID HIM AS POSSIBLE. NOT RETIRED YET!
He is a challenging professor because he makes you literally learn, not just memorize. He is very intellectual and gives you a LOT of information. Not recommended for an easy A, but highly recommended if you are interested in learning a lot.
He's a very smart and inspiring professor. He challenges you to learn and not just memorize. Recommended for people willing to dedicate a lot of time to studying.
He is full of personality and fun stories that sometimes pertain to lecture and sometimes not, but either way I was thoroughly engaged in his lectures and I learned ALOT! His tests are hard! but they're doable as long as you take good notes during lecture and make good use of his study guides and ppt.
Physiology is never going to be an easy class, but this sociopath makes it absurdly difficult. His learning expectations seem to be about standard, but the difficulty stems from them strange formats that he requires. He gives many opportunities of failure and does not explain his expectations/syllabus. Outside of this, his lectures are engaging.
Material is difficult but is made 10x harder with the teaching method he uses. His grading standards are absurdly difficult. His instructions for lab write ups, quizz essay answers and study guides are extremely convoluted. I recommend taking another professor if you can. I'm an A student with a heavy science background and am struggling.
Lectures are good and informative. If you pay attention and study what he tells you, you should do well on the multiple choice tests. Lab quizzes are not bad, but his grading is picky so you have to use exactly the right wording. And his requirements for lab notebooks are absurd. The formatting requirements are unnecessarily picky and take forever.
If you want to learn physiology and appreciate having a professor with that much passion for the field, then I recommend taking him. By no means is this class an easy A. The workload for this class is insane, but if you can pull through it, his methods will make you a better student. He is really nice, but intense. So BE READY TO WORK!
