Great professor. Lectures keep you interested. He is dedicated and has tons of office hours. May be a bit crass and somewhat personally unforgiving at times, but he is obviously concerned with the students' success, and even provides extra credit opportunities. Diligent attendance and studying are more than enough to clinch the A.
Best prof i've ever had. I'm thinking about taking classes just because he teaches them. Hilarious but actually teaches the content and i came out of the class actually remembering information.
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever encountered. Does not care about students. Does not grade work submitted. Very marginal as a teacher. Disorganized and inaccessible.
great class and great professor. helps to illuminate the subject matter and makes you think.
Great prpfessor makes things easy to undertand. he he is hilarious. Just stduy from his study guides which are very in depth and you should be fine. ALso, it is a good idea to go to class b/c he aplies the subject matter to real life situations in a comical manner.
HE IS AWESOME!! I had no interest in politics or international relations, but his class just made me totally fall in love with it. His tests are not that hard if you go to his classes and take good notes, and he gives out review sheets before tests so very helpful too!
Great guy! He loves International Relations which makes him a better teacher. However I'm not a fan of the subject. I hated the subject...no interest at all. His jokes and sarcasm kept me interested. Test are hard. I wouldn't lie.
Saladino knows his job well. His material is right off the book, you would find the class to be a little hard because of the material involved in it, but definitely, would not find his lectures boring. I would not have taken the class if not required. But if you read the material and follow up on the lectures you would do well.
Tests are worse than some of the most depressing lectures (just kidding). He is an amazing speaker and knows everything he is talking about. I actually went to the SI's because I wanted to learn more about International Relations, even though I got a C in the class...
Saladino! a good teacher, his lectures can be interesting. The map quiz can give you a sense of what's about to come in the future, the exams are the toughest, the readings r the hardest and you are more likely to forget if you do not understand them, make sure you do very well in the first two exams, otherwise it is tough luck.
Cool teacher. Keep up with the syllabus and the readings you will be fine. Map Quiz: STUDY! Attend and Listen in the lectures you will have no problem in this class.
Best teacher i have had in college yet. he is passionate and has awesome stories. sometimes can be a hardass but who cares, he is a great teacher because he really knows his stuff and treats you like an adult, which is all that matters to me.
I LOVE SALADINO!!!
The subject is dry and boring, only a really great professor like Saladino is able to find a way to make it entertaining. Attendance isn't mandatory but I look forward to going to his lectures every day because he really knows how to teach. Consider yourself lucky if you have him!
Great teacher, he's easily one of my favorite professors. He knows exactly what he's talking and knows how to explain it really well even in a large lecture class. If you go to class and study this class shouldn't be all that difficult
Such a bad professor, he easily spent 2 weeks describing one event that was easily grasped in the first 5 minutes. Very sarcastic, he doesn't care for the students and is just an overall jerk
Super cool guy, his class is kind of hard so you have to study but he makes jokes in class and is interesting to learn from
Funniest teacher at VCU!!
I took his Honors International Political Economy class and while Saladino is brilliant and class discussions are fun and informative, his organizational skills (or rather, lack therof) caused me so much frustration that it overshadows all the good parts.Great reading material selected, but VERY disorganized, uncommunicative and unprofessional.
Words of advice: Attend lectures everyday. Do not bother writing what he has on the powerpoints. Write down what he says as he is speaking. Read the summaries to the readings. Do not read the whole article. Do the review sheets he gives you for the exam, but read your notes first. I got a 94 on the first two exams and a 97 on the final so an A is m
I took this class because it was required and it ended up being one of my favorite classes! He is hilarious and makes a pretty boring subject awesome. However, he has no patience for excuses. You don't have to read so much as GO TO CLASS, PAY ATTENTION AND WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS. Don't be intimidated by him. He does want you to succeed!
I've already Graduated from VCU and had Saladino a few years back. He is by far the BEST Prof. at VCU. He makes you read a ton, but he tells you not to read the entire book. He teaches you in a way that makes you feel scholarly when you have completed the course. If all the profs were of Sal's caliber, VCU's academic reputation would be alot higher
International relations is really hard. I cant knock this guy on his teaching because he knows what he is talking about, but he has no toleration for excuses or failing. I failed the class with a 59.33% and he didnt bump me the .17% to pass. STUDY, he puts almost an unbearable amount of materals on tests. Procrastination wont work in this class.
This class was extremely difficult and required a lot of work outside of class to do well. I found it very interesting and well worth the hard work. If you go to SI, class, and take studying seriously you should be fine. I walked away with an A in the class.
Despite his high ratings I found his course very difficult to understand. Honors students, take this with J.Arnold instead!! Unbearable amount of reading (1,000 pgs a week) and writing was expected. If you dont speak up in EVERY class you lose points. He acted like everyone should know everything already by the 2nd class...
This has to be my favorite class that I have had since being here at VCU. His class is extremely interesting. He doesn't like dumb questions, so if you have a question make sure that it makes sense. He is an incredible teacher and I'm sad to almost be done with the class. You should definitely take the class. It's worth the time and effort.
Took this class a few semesters ago.It was a 101 class, but felt like a 300 or 400 level class. He has a dry sense of humor that could be irritating at times. Overall this class could be easy if you read, come to class, and study. Don't think your going to pass if you miss class and cram for test.
Really funny, making every class worth listening to. 3 MC tests and a map quiz, thats it. He does give extra credit the end of the semester. He does not care if your in class. With that being said show up to class, take some notes, maybe go to a study session and you will have no problem grade wise. People that fail are the ones not going to class
One of the best teachers i have had at vcu. A professor who really cares about what he is teaching and his passion makes it easy to pay attention. Some people say his tests are hard but all you have to do is pay attention in class and study the study guides and you will be fine.
Saladino is the greatest professor I have ever had. His class is better than T.v. It is always entertaining and informative. He brings the seemingly boring topic of foreign policy and international relations alive with his passion for the subject, knowledge, and great sense of humor. If he was not a professor he would be a comedian.
Easily one of the best professors I've had at VCU thus far. I'd highly recommend trying to not miss any of his classes and paying attention during the lecture. He is an extremely knowledgeable individual with a lot of passion for politics and the workings of the world.
Great professor and a great class. Do not take if you're looking for a "fluff" general education requirement and if you're a POLI/INTL major this class will perfectly prepare you for your future studies. His class is entirely what you make of it and he's not going to babysit you, which for some of us is actually appreciated. Thanks Saladino!
Saladino rules! He's hilarious and makes the material easy to understand. The material is pretty difficult though, maybe don't take it if you're looking for an easy Gen. Ed. course. But if you're in polisci or INTL, it's great. Very informative and dense. Tests are pretty hard, but gives a huge extra credit opportunity.
Fair, not easy. Nobody gets an A if they don't attend class. The lectures follow the book and the ppt slide but he adds a lot, even asks a class of like 400 people to vote, to ask questions. Generally is pretty funny. Also, to the guy who hates him, don't post 10 times on the same day just to trash his rating. We need to know the truth about profs.
This is a good "youre in college now" kind of class.Like a rude awakening coming from high school. Its hard for a freshman class but he is such a good teacher. I got a D in this class but it was just a hard transition coming from hs but hes a good teacher. I came to every class, you have to..just be prepared to study study study.
Saladino is one of the best teachers I've had at VCU. His class is interesting, I learned A LOT, and his tests are easy and come directly from lecture. He's smart and funny, listens to his students. You should have no problem making an A or B if you go to class. He also offers extra credit!
SALADINO IS AMAZING!he is very clear and everything you need to know comes from lecture and he gives you hints on what you really need to write down!So GOING to class,Studying, and goiing to S.I will gaurantee you an A. Grade you want is the grade you get by effort you put in. If you dont go to class, feel free to withdraw, because its a fast class
The key to Saladino is that he doesn't take any crap. Do what is expected of you; show up for class, pay attention to what he says while keeping your mouth shut, and be entertained by his hilarious comments. Make sure you DO THE READING. I have never had to read for a class before this one. Also, go to the SI sessions if you want an A.
I took this course online with Chris; it's not an EASY course (the reading is very dense -- Plato isn't exactly beach reading), and it definitely requires attention and keeping up with reading. But he's fair and will help you understand what you're doing right and what could use improvement.
He's an OKAY Professor. basically reads all his lectures right off the board. can get some detail if you pay attention. hard to stay awake some times. dark class room and voice is bland. interesting but not exciting.
try to stay away from it if you can! he could care less about his students and how well their doing. he gives 3 tests and 1 quiz. basically, you get it or you don't. he doesn't give any hw. his lectures are pointless and you won't learn anything from them. everyone is either asleep or texting in his class. horrible professor!
This guy is great. He really makes the subject interesting because he doesn't use everything straight from the book or read straight from a powerpoint. All he asks is that you go to class--if you actually ATTEND (which a lot of people don't), then you'll probably get an A. But if you don't go, you will not do so hot...it's pretty simple
He's sarcastic and entertaining so the class isn't always boring. He lectures but doesn't teach information soley from the book and powerpoints so you should attend class. He only gives 3 exams and 1 quiz. Go to class, take notes on what he lectures, (maybe) skim readings and you will do well.
okay i dont know what these other people are talking about, after the map quiz in the first few weeks, I never went to class. Aced the map quiz and then got B's on his exams. you can definitely skip but try to keep up with the material somehow
Saladino teaches this class in the best way IR can be taught. He tries to make really dry things funny and does a good job of it. IR is basically knowing what people have said about how states interact. So if you want to do well, know what all the people said. A.K.A. do ALL the READINGS!! It's that simple, everything is in the readings.
Salidino is a great professor. Makes the topic of IR really interesting and nit boring. Just come to class PAY attention and TAKE notes unlike all the other people who are too lazy to do any work. Its a simple class, attend, take notes, go to the SI sessions before exams and your crystal. Only studied off my notes and have an A in the class
This is not going to be an easy A, you're gonna have to work for it. He makes the class interesting, however. Come to class even though he doesn't take attendance. Attend the SI sessions and DO THE READINGS!!! A bulk of the exams are on the readings. Put in a good amount of effort and you should do well in the class.
Saladino is an awesome professor. He is engaging and extremely intelligent, very knowledgable of this subject. He can be sarcastic at times. Just make sure you take notes on what he is actually saying, not just copying down the powerpoint, that does not help. Overall great professor, I wouldn't take international relations if it wasn't with him.
He is a very interesting professor - although I didn't do well in his class (I was pretty lazy) I usually ended up having a pretty good time in his class - he sarcastic, funny, very intelligent (both generally and on this topic). However, take notes from what he says and the power point, do the readings, and your'll be golden.
I LOVEDDD HIM! he's really interesting and funny, he has a great sense of humor and makes the subject very interesting. i got an A and didnt put in much work, but i went to most of the classes. SI session help A LOT!!!! i recommend you take him!
Best professor ever. Saladino makes IR very interesting. I don't think there's many other entertaining professors out there like him. If you attend lectures and take notes on everything he says, you'll definitely pass. There are no surprises on the exam. Pretty easy class especially if you go to the SI sessions.
He is the best professor ever!!! Love him!! he is so funny, interesting and knows what hes talking about!!!
i'm not a poli science major but loved this class, Saladino is super cool, funny. I miss his class, full of humor, coolest teacher i ever had, class is easy, listen to his lecture u'll love it,go to si seasons very helpful,it will be an easy A,he'llgive some reading, u might look at those just in case cause some of them appear in the test, highly rec
He is very, very good at what he teaches. He warns you that to be successful you have to attend his class although it's not mandatory. He also will not hold back his opinions and speaks his mind. He's funny too when he wants to be. His tests are developed from the readings and lectures.
Saladino is a pretty cool professor. Hes got a good sense of humor and will give you multiple chances at extra credit. (just don't take advantage of it!) He keeps the lectures as interesting as possible and sometimes rambles off topic.
This guy is impressive,He knows his stuff! I really didn't want to take this course but i enjoyed/learned alot. The exams are fair but also kind of hard. Most test question come from lecture but if not he tells you exactly what parts of the book he'll use. I would take this teacher hands down!!
Saladino is an amazing man. He spends most of lecture complaining about freshman, he teaches about 1500/semester so he has reason. If you get past the complaining, sarcasm, crass humor etc you will love him. He's brilliantly funny and not your typical college Professor (chef/band). Has a fount of knowledge which he is willing to share :)
Saladino is awesome. You'd be doing yourself a disservice not to show up, most of the test stuff comes from lecture. His sarcastic quips make everything funnier, and I was never bored in his class. He might seem a bit unapproachable at first, but he's really nice. His tests make you think, but you certainly get an A, just study the notes. Take him!
So the class is not too bad but he did not return a single paper during the semester. He still has not gotten final grades up now 2 days past the deadline.
Lots of reading. Don't fall behind. Very good teacher, I enjoyed the lectures. Pay attention to the LECTURE instead of the slides, the slides are online.
Saladino used a lot of humor and sarcasm but most of the time it was to make a point. Had a knack for telling a story and having it relate to all kinds of things, and then to what was most important. KEY: attend class, take notes, lecture are the bulk of the test questions.
he makes it easy to pass. attend lectures everyday and PAY ATTENTION and it's all laid out to you. never used my book. in the beginning of the semester i hated him, i thought he tried too hard to be "cool." but i actually began to appreciate the humor as it tied into what he taught. i would take a class with him again-and i hate intl relations.
Great lectures! Saladino is very intelligent and humorous. However never responded to my emails for help. He has stated he will not reply to stupid questions/emails, but mine were only about to meet to see my exam! I barely read but attended every class and have gotten high B's on his exams.
easy A if you read the material...nice prof.
easy class if you study
Here are a few rules to follow in this class. Come on time. Turn off your phone. Don't talk during the test. It's a shame that the instructor can't follow these simple rules. 50 minutes to lecture, but it's always wise to waste ten minutes every class trying to be funny or just repeating how the students are frustrating. Enjoy dealing with this.
Hes pretty awesome. Very passionate about what he teaches and is relatively humorous. Go to every lecture or risk serious confusion
This guy is fantastic. 10/10 would recommend, but ONLY if you're willing to work. He's funny and passionate, but there will be a lot of extra readings and work on your own time. Attendance is pretty much mandatory. I didn't give two ducks about intl relations, but because of him I actually care now.
I liked Saladino. You didn't have to come to class or buy the book because he posts the powerpoints that he goes over in class on blackboard. Study from the powerpoints. Exams are straight from the powerpoints. Easy class.
Awesome teacher, he loves what he talks about. Class is always interesting to say the least.
Saladino is really funny and makes the class laugh every day. Although there aren't any assignments to help your grade he does give you an extra credit opportunity. The only grades in his class is a map quiz, 2 exams, and then a cumulative final exam. He gives you study guides for the exams which helped a lot. All powerpoints are online!
He is not helpful at all, comes to class about 15 minutes late every day, and only gives three grades, a midterm, a research paper, and one paper. YOU MUST DO THE READING- AND IT IS ALOT OF READING. He never responded my emails asking to meet him. Very rude and condescending. I have no idea how I'm doing or what I'm doing in his class.
Not a good teacher at all. Avoid him if you can. All he does is talk nonstop with very few seconds to pause for air. He is very rude and disrespectful to students. What he test you on is very little of what he talks about. I try to give the benefit of the doubt but I would avoid him if I could.
He's very straightforward and clear, and explains things well. He's also pretty funny.
His tests are really straight forward, as are his powerpoints. The subject itself is actually very interesting, but you CANNOT miss a class, you will miss everything. He puts all the ppts on Blackboard so when you come take notes on what he says NOT what's on the board.
Prof. Saladino definitely made almost a 3 hour class bearable. He knows most of the kids in there are honors and have no interest in the subject therefore his expectations are altered to that. Great guy, hard class but bearable.
He is definitely passionate about the subject, but I studied and still failed. It may be because I had no prior interest, but unless you want to completely immerse yourself into International Relations all for the sake of one A, don't take it.
Sounds exactly like John Goodman and is absolutely hilarious!!!! He uses real-life examples to help understand the material.
FANTASTIC. very clear and entertaining. I love attending class, but it's practically necessary in order to pass. not hard if you are an active listener.
Professor Saladino is definitely entertaining, and you won't regret taking his class. He has an ability to engage students, even though he reads off power points and there's not much substance, he makes it entertaining. He is definitely scary to e-mail because he tends to make fun of students e-mails openly, but otherwise he's pretty cool.
Saladino is a funny guy and a very good professor. He is extremely clear on what to expect on the test and know a lot about what he's teaching. I would highly recommend taking a class with him. If you apply yourself and attend his lectures, it isn't hard at all.
I think he's a great teacher, he gives good examples in class. Just make sure to go to class, or you will miss out on questions on the exams. If you do your part, he does his, and that reflects your grade.
First, the class is super comprehensive...it covers a lot of stuff about international relations and I didn't know any of it. Second, it was made interesting because Saladino is obviously into it and ends up being pretty funny. But he will yell at the class if people are rude which some girl was right behind me all semester
A lot of people like Saladino because of the fact that he's funny. Honestly, the class is hard because there are only three exams and one map quiz and that's your grade. However, he covers a lot of material every class and is very interested in the subject. Pay close attention, take good notes, and you should do good.
Hard class. I studied alone, with friends, went to SI sessions and still did not do well. Covers a lot of information in one class. Only 3 tests and one quiz so there is no chance you can make up for bombing a test. Does offer some extra credit but is tedious. Grading is strict. He has no sympathy and at times is disrespectful to his students
He is very mean, however, cares for his topic well. There are only 3 tests and one quiz so you can't bomb anything. Extra Credit helps a little. His lectures are useful but the SI sessions is what truly saves you.
I loved Saladino's class! There are two essential steps to pass it: 1. Go to class. Saladino is an excellent lecturer. He's interesting and he makes even complex subjects, like the theory of IR, easy to understand and remember. 2. Take thorough notes in class (not just off the ppt). Beyond that, sit back and enjoy his obvious love for all things IR
He tells alot of stories which all seem random and stupid at first but when your are going over the work you rmbr them and realize that they do help. I had to use the textbook alot to really understand what he was saying but you can pass with just reviewing his powerpoints. I thought he was a great teacher.
Professor Saladino really knows his stuff, and he makes the material interesting. All of this information is new, so attend class and take notes. Attending SI sessions is EXTREMELY helpful. He also offers some extra credit at the end of the semester.
I just barley past this class. With that said I still loved this class. Saladino knows his stuff and he does a GREAT job of explaining it. He gives a map quiz, and 3 exams, and extra credit at the end. GO TO THE SI'S!!!!!!!!!!!
Saladino's an okay professor. Mildly temperamental at times. He really wants you to take his class seriously. Just show up to class and pay attention and you should do just fine.
Saladino is a pretty good professor, but there's A LOT of material. He tests on his lectures and throws in 1 or 2 questions from the book. While he doesn't take attendance, the sheer amount of material covered really requires you to be there if you want an A or just to pass, for some. Also SI sessions are available, and are quite useful.
I unfortunatly was put in this class for no apparent reason since it has nothing to do with my major. He isn't clear, tests don't follow class as well as other make it sound and when I had a family emergency (death of a close family member) around test time he was very disrespectful and unhelpful. Would not recommend him to anyone.
He is amazing! He doesn't care if you miss class, but if you skip a lot you wont pass. His tests are based completely off the lecture. However, his lectures are the best. They are so interesting and he is so funny! Favorite professor by far.
He is funny and does the best job at making poli 105 more fun but the class sucks and it is difficult
His class is an absolute pleasure. He's really funny and gives good clear examples to explain confusing concepts. Tests are much easier than he makes out. If you fail theres no one to blame but yourself. Must take for all Poli Sci majors at VCU. You won't regret it.
This class totally changed my perspective on international politics. Saladino has given me a new interest in this subject. Attendance is super important because his notes are crucial to what's on the test, but he makes the lectures funny and memorable. One of the best professors I've had.
There are only 3 exams, and they're hard. You definitely need to study a lot, especially if Poli Sci isn't your thing. Saladino is great, though. He's sarcastic and I love it. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Really funny guy, I definitely recommend you take him.
You have to be in class to pass the class. He gets a lot of info. in class. He is a funny guy and really have fun in class. However, you have to listen to what he says and not copy the power point. I like his class overall. Really smart guy. The exam is hard but you can pass them. You have to study alot but he also has SI helping.
Professor Saladino is a brilliant teacher, and a funny guy. I came in as a Nursing major taking his class with a dreary attitude but I'm leaving with a new perspective on political science. Honors POLI is a tough class but you really do learn and he makes it enjoyable.
I have mixed feelings about Saladino. Or, at the very least, his International Relations course. On one hand, he's a fairly compelling lecturer. On the other hand, sometimes his class can be frustrating. For example, he bluffs in regards to reading assignments. He says you have to do them, but then doesn't test you on them. Overall, not too bad.
I honestly found his class to be very easy. However, you probably will not pass if you miss class. The easiest way is to get an A is to show up. There is an extra credit option but it will not do much. Regardless, he is a hilarious professor and his lectures are very interesting. If you want to pass and get a good laugh do not miss class.
Great professor. You do need to attend class, and it's not terrible; he's sarcastic, and blunt, so if you can get past his hawaiian shirt collection, you should be good. There are extra credit opportunities if you aren't doing to well. Powerpoints are posted, as well as study guides, aka powerpoints in word documents, which are good reviews.
Saladino is a funny man, and lets you know when there's something important to know. You'll have a map quiz and three exams, and the extra credit is a huge grade booster! If you do it right you'll get up to 15 percent added to your first exam.
Saladino is a very passionate professor and seems to know what he's talking about. It's a little hard to follow at times because although he uses power points, he says a lot about the topics. However, he offers good extra credit opportunities, and the study guides follow exactly what's on the exams.
He is a fun and he knows his stuff! He is actually very intellectual and he makes knowing about the subject pretty entertaining to say the least. You have a total of four grades in the entire class: A Map Quiz, Two tests (midterms), and a FINAL. If you skip class don't expect to get an A. You have to study and attend SI's! The highly benefit you!!
Very into his subject. The lectures are the key to the course but they are often very interesting and even can be funny. I enjoyed this course way more than I expected and did really well by taking notes and attending class.
Saladino gets a lot of hype from students because he delivers the classic "sophisticated" style that freshman expect and crave. they like that he hates his students, curses, makes jokes, and shows up late. If you want to learn under a professor like you've seen in the movies, take his class. If you want to learn... don't.
Super funny guy and this class was pretty easy. You don't really have to read either of the books. If you just go to class and take notes, you'll get an A. Go to the SI Review sessions, they help A LOT. This class isn't hard if you listen to his lecture and minimally study before the test.
This guy was seriously my favorite professor for this semester. The information he teaches is hard and its a lot to take in but he makes it fun and entertaining. His teaching style is something you might not be used to but he teaches it very well. Go to class, seriously go. If you don't you won't do well on his tests.
Class made up of three exams and a quiz, each exam made up roughly 50% readings info, 50% things he says in lectures. He's REALLY funny, but you really have to attend each and every class and really work for the grade a lot outside of class. His class is not for someone that's a skipperslacker. Doesn't take attendance, but it's essential to pass
Always enjoyed the class when i went, know how to throw a good lecture. I however, still rarely went to class. Still got an A. Didn't go the last month and got a 100 on the final. Pick the book up two nights before the test; 3 exams and one quiz, and you'll be dandy.
Where do I start on Professor Saladino? He is seriously the most hilarious, coolest, interesting professor to be stuck with for 3 hours. Class consisted of 3 research papers, all of which were very interesting topics to write about. You will need to buy some, BUT NOT ALL books for the papers. Taking this class is a must.
Saladino is one cool dude. His sense of humor is on point; having the ability to destroy your idiotic peers with blazing sarcasm is admirable. Even if you're not a poli sci person, his lectures will capture your interest as he makes them entertaining and easy to follow. Good attendance, minimal studying, and an average brain will get you an A.
I feel that Saladino is a great professor and makes sure that the students have what they need to pass. He is hilarious but also makes sure you learn the material.
Saladino is alright. He can be funny but I was usually too bored with the lecture to hear the joke. The tests are alright, not too hard but not super easy either. I was too intimidated to come to his office hours. Not the worst professor, but not the best either.
Saladino's class is entertaining, but the material is quiet hard. Get ready to read a lot. Also, there aren't much homework. If you are interested in politics and international relations, this is the perfect class for you.
Attendance isn't required, but if you don't go you'll regret it. About 85% of exams are based on his lectures, don't just take notes from power point, write down what he says. Three exams, all multiple-choice, easy if you take good lecture notes. There are readings, but I got a B without doing them. Hilarious teacher and entertaining :)
alright, im about to help you all. Saladino is super cool and its VITAL to come to class. so just look at the powerpoints before class and write down what he says, thats all that matters. go to the marathon sessions before each exam and you're good to go. Do that and an A or B will be so easy, believe me.
Saladino is hilarious. His dad jokes kill me. His lectures are amazing, but its easy to get lost if you're not a good note taker. His tests aren't too awful, but you definitely have to study. This class has nothing to do with my major, but I actually loved this class.
Don't take this guy if you get your feelings hurt easily and can't follow directions. Loves calling people out but it can be funny. Has very specific and clear cut instructions. Great professor and very interesting course. Pay attention to all of his lectures and you should get an A. Did not touch textbook once.
you can't skip his lectures if you want to do well in the class, but honestly that's really all you need. i didn't do most of the readings and hardly touched the textbook and still got an A in the class. he's a funny professor and his tests are pretty straightforwards.
Saladino is a very straightforward professor. He tells you what's expected from the get go. GO TO CLASS and you'll pass! I barely touched my textbook. The key is to just gooooo tooooo classssssss!
Saladino was easily one of my favorite professors. Super funny guy that made a subject that could be super boring very entertaining. Clear cut class, you're grade is made up of 3 blackboard post and 4 test (4th is counted as the final). If you study you will get an A simple as that.
GO TO CLASS. I hardly touched the textbook but I listened in class and never got below a 92 on the exams. I would say 90 percent of his lectures are on his tests. My friends who didn't go to class struggled a lot because a lot of the testing material is not in the textbooks. Overall, he is STELLAR professor and makes the class very interesting.
Saladino was really good at relating the topics we were learning to things that would peek our interest! Really funny guy!
Salidino maybe really funny and all but when it comes to giving lecture he makes no sense. He repeats himself all the time and doesn't make clear as to what it is going on. His power points are not that great either. However if you're actually willing to put in the work than you might be well off.
Saladino is by far one of the best professors here at VCU. His passion and interest in International Relations has inspired many students to pursue a Political Science degree. I have taken three upper level courses with him that have had a phenomenal impact on my learning experience. He teaches IR from a friendly yet knowledgable approach.
Saladino was an amazing professor. He explains the material well and rarely gave out homework and when he did it was literally the easiest thing. He is very passionate and I would take another class with him in a heartbeat.
Amazing teacher who is very passionate about the subject. Unfortunately a few test questions are specific to the readings... read them! His ppts help alot with studying.
Lectures were extremely boring. Had to work hard to maintain a good grade. Saladino expects you to work like an upper class-man. Tests are difficult but definitely recommend going to SI sessions from his TA.
Funny guy and passionate about what he teaches. THe only way youll pass if you go to class. Never touched the textbook and my lowest grade was a 92. STUDY AND TAKE GOOD NOTES AND YOURE FINE.
Saladino is the man! Any material featured on the exam is covered in lecture. Study the notes, attend class and you're not receiving anything other than an A or B on each exam! He will call out whiners, underachievers, and clueless people. However, you're golden if you're motivated and willing to put forth the effort. Great professor!
As a person, Saladino is cool and funny. However he is a lazy professor when it comes to actually telling you what your assignments are. This the the final week of exam and we still do not have our final exam paper questions. I would take his class again, but he would not be my first choice.
He tries to be the cool professor and I find him fairly obnoxious. He's a good professor but nothing special. Everybody claims he's the man but again, nothing special. His lectures are all over the place, none of his blackboard dates aren't updated, so its hard to pay attention to where you are in the semester. Would not recommend the class.
Puts powepoints online but his test come straight from the lecture and what comes out his mouth instead of the powerpoints. Will even say after a certain teaching material, "that may be on the test, what I just said". Do hw and extra credit.
Saladino is a great professor. Don't buy the textbooks you don't need them just show up to class and the SI sessions and you'll be fine. Do all the extra credit too.
Awesome teacher
Boring, Dull, Tedious, Repetitive.
Great guy! Hard Class
I've had Poli 105, and several other upper level Poli classes with Saladino. The least I can say is this: Saladino is the professor Poli Sci students need in their lives to take a keen interest in their field. He challenges his students to question their positions and find ways to strengthen their analytical, research, and writing skills.
Saladino IS the man. As long as you take the class seriously and go to SI sessions, you will definitely get an A. The people on here that gave him a poor rating probably don't understand his humor or appreciate his candor. He is very unbiased and well rounded, and I was able to learn a lot about the basics of foreign policy.
Saladino has been my best professor thus far. He's the type of dude who'll stand up in front of class with not a single piece of notes or an agenda, he knows his stuff VERY WELL, he is incredibly intelligent in his area. He's a hilarious guy, but also expects you to do well and attend class in order to succeed. Tough class, but hey its college.
He is a very fun professor, don't get my wrong. However, the class is super hard. If you miss class, don't goto SI sessions and study. you will fail. His tests are super hard also. he gives pop quizzes as well. so attendance is mandatory. Good luck!
I have to pretense this with the fact that I enjoy the content, which might skew my view. However I found Saladino awesome, he is very knowledgeable about the material and has very engaging lectures. I will add that the tests can be difficult if you fail to attend lectures. The course is very lecture heavy, but is perfectly manageable.
Most reviews here are for his 101 level. This is for an upper-level class, Int'l Orgs. This is the hardest class I've taken and I'm an A student. There is a ton of reading. The class only meets once per week which means you have to be prepared. He is a slow grader b/c he has a lot of responsibilities. Don't expect to have grades before the midterm.
Saladino's class is a difficult class if you don't pay attention during lectures. He says many test questions during the lecture so if you pay attention and take notes you can easily pass the tests.
Prof Saladino is def a demanding but fair professor. His lectures are great but he is probably the most sarcastic man I've met. He doesn't take BS from his students and is super blunt about it. Go to class, take notes, and study for his tests and you'll do fine.
Do not copy the powerpoints word for word. Instead write down what he is saying, that is what I did and when exam time came, I got an A. I studied my notes and I didn't really need to read the articles I just looked up the summaries online. GO TO CLASS. If you take GOOD notes, you will pass.
Saladino is hilarious, very engaging lectures and always sarcastic. You should attend class and take notes/listen to his lectures, but missing a few won't kill you. He gives extra credit ops and SI/marathon study sessions with the TA. There's a small amount of test questions from the textbook but I never read it and still passed every test.
Possibly the hardest class I've taken at VCU thus far. Saladino is a one of a kind professor, who is hilarious and fun which make his lectures amaizing, but the work you put it is seriously no joke. All exams are essay based (5 pgs) and two major papers (5pg & a 12pgr). He checks attendance every class. He's cool, but don't let thats cloud you.
So good I changed my major; that's pretty freaking great, right?
Really cool proffesor as long as you dont annoy him. Grading is yes or no, very simple. There are 3 tests all weighted the same including the cumulative final. A class you should pass simple once you know how to study. Also The PowerPoints on BB mean nothing w/o the lecture notes so go to class. Goodluck!
He does not horse around though he is a fun lecturer. Have to put in the time and effort. He's a tough grader and expects you to know your stuff. Blackboard postings are a mess; If using his notes save them as you go. Do take advantage of the supplemental meetings with his assistants. Liked him a lot but he's not my cup of tea in organization.
Great teacher. Sarcastic and funny. Makes his lesson fun and understandable. Notes are a must for this class. Make sure to become friends with others in the class, it comes in hand when studying for tests and quizzes. Occasionally gives out extra credit, but if you learn the material and pass the tests than you'll for sure get an A or B.
Saladino is an amazing and hilarious professor. You definitely need to show up to class to understand the material, or else you are screwed for the exams. The info doesn't come easily, so I recommend going to the SI sessions to get an even more clear understand of everything. Textbook is definitely not needed, though. I 100% recommend Saladino.
Professor Saladino is fire. Stand by to get roasted, don't be surprised when the f-bombs get dropped. Between him and Aughie, there are few professors I'd rather learn from.
Excellent Professor... make sure you come to class... take notes and use his study guide... the study guide and readings are a little disorganized but follow them and do the extra credit and web assignments... easy A... :) Solid dude too... met with him in his office to talk about past and future exams and he's extremely helpful and humble... !!!
Very knowledgable but if you have a choice, DO NOT take his class. He's condescending and often disrespectful. He simply does way too much. His test are worded extremely awkward to avoid them being on quizlet, he gives too many test and overloads the class with excessive info. He goes out of his way to make every thing 10times more difficult
There are 3 tests. The last one is the final. 15 points of extra credit can be added to the 1st test. I went all of the 3 marathon sessions. I stopped going to class after the 2nd test , only went to the final exam marathon session and got a 94 in the final. Just get the lecture recording from someone, or cram the last day. It's a medium A.
I got a 99% in this class w/o extra credit. How: Go to class, LISTEN, TAKE NOTES. Pay attention!!! Study maybe 3-4 consecutive days before the exam. Know everything on his review sheets. That's it. I didn't use the book at all. Saladino is AMAZING, I loved attending this class. I just loved it. 10/10 would recommend.
I've taken Saladino for two Poli classes now and I've loved both. He's really smart and entertaining. If you do your work and genuinely care, he will respect you. He's really easy to talk to and always responds to emails. He understands that students are human too and he's willing to work with you. He gives interesting and relevant information.
The class was entirely essays. He would not post essay prompts until two nights before the essays were due. Then after rushing to finish to meet the deadline, he would extend it a couple days. If you are not a fast reader this is not the class for you. Even though he gave specific grading criteria it was unclear how he followed it.
Saladino's tests are heavily relied on his lectures and the textbook. Make sure to read and take good notes. He gives extra credit so you can get back up to 15 points but theres still only 3 tests and a final. Go to SI sessions and his office hours. Putting your face to your name in a 300+ person class makes a difference.
Saladino is a good professor. His lectures are always interesting and lively if you pay attention and show up (mostly I skipped some and managed to get As on the tests) you should be able to pass his class. Has a tendency to go off on a tangent. The readings are gone over in class and theres like 1 question per test from the textbook
Saladino was my favorite professor this semester! Super funny and has a tendency to rant a little bit. Very knowledgeable about international relations and will give students opportunites to ask questions!
Professor Saladino is truly awesome. I always was engaged when he lectured as the it was interesting and I throughly enjoyed every moment in his class as he is a hilarious man who really cares about what he teaches. The class grade is made up of three tests, a map quiz, and web assignments, all of which are easy As if you pay attention and study.
Saladino is a very respected professor at VCU and it's for a good reason. He's hilarious and is passionate about what he teaches to his classes. He is very knowledgeable about international relations and he encourages students to ask questions. He drops a lot of f-bombs but it makes lectures more enjoyable. 1 quiz, 3 tests, 3 homework assignments.
Gets a lot of heat for being too sarcastic and mean, but that's the people who don't go to class or study for the tests. He's a good teacher who spends time in the beginning of each class giving advice on how to succeed. Show up to class, listen and take really good notes, study hard for the tests and you'll do well. SI sessions helped
Hilarious professor(and my favorite) that makes learning entertaining. There's reading homework but you can just skim most of it. The tests are easy if you come to class and pay some attention.
Great professor, go to his office hours if you need help. Go to class, I went to most of them and if I did the extra credit I would've gotten an A, so do the extra credit!! Study a good amount for the tests and if you go to class, you'll be good. Textbook not really necessary I mean I never read them.
This class was fun and definitely easy if you look at his notes and study for the exams. Don't buy the books, I never read one of them. Easy A for me, I would recommend everyone to take Saladino for atleast one class!!
I totally blew off class in the spring and ended up dropping it. Saladino told me to take it in the summer and I would do really well and I made an A. EASY A in summer school and it was over in like 4 weeks.
Saladino taught my first Poli Sci class in college and assured me that Poli Sci is what I want to do. He is a great lecturer! So concise, but very interesting and FUNNY. Its obvious that he knows what hes teaching. I didnt study for the tests (except the map test) and got As on everything. Coming to class and listening to his lectures is key
The class is almost entirely lectures, but he's an entertaining lecturer. He has somewhat of an "acquired taste" sense of humor. You're only graded on a few tests. The supplementary instructor sessions are super helpful. Attendance isn't mandatory but missing class definitely makes it more difficult.
this class was probably the hardest class I've ever had to take but saladino does his best to make it easier and gives a lot of extra credit. he's super funny and straightforward about whats expected in the class
Make sure you study! The class is easy but only if you study your notes.
Saladino is hilarious in class, and if you share his brand of humour you'll really enjoy going. Taking notes isn't necessary because you're tested on what's on the powerpoints on bb. Study a few days ahead and you should get 90+
POLI 105 was one of my harder classes this semester but Saladino made class really easy for me. His lectures are entertaining and he's really funny. Show up to class, take notes, and study and you will do well on exams.
Saladino is hilarious and a great person to listen to during a lecture. He ALWAYS goes over time in class so dont expect to make your next class on time. You have 3 tests in his class with 1 map quiz and 3 web based assignments with a few opportunities for extra credit. This class is really difficult, dont expect to get an easy A or an B.
Saladino is an amazing prof. He is very accessible at office hours. Just take responsibility for yourself and he will help you as much as possible. He doesn't tolerate lazy students who just want to do minimal effort for maximum grades. Take good notes and do the readings and you can manage an A. Also take good notes cause test are lecture heavy.
He's loud, abrasive and hilarious. Dude shows up and commands the class with an occasional f-bomb. Show up, take notes and you'll be fine. I didn't need the book at all actually, and barely did the readings and pulled off an A with the help of the extra credit. Do not play with this class though or get complacent. The tests will catch you unawares.
I loved Professor Saladino. Not only is he passionate about what he teaches, but he also makes it entertaining and easy to understand for the students. The extra credit is only a small bump but it's still important because it can make or break your grade if it's on the edge. The readings are also important to do. Going to class is key to passing.
Saladino knows his stuff and actually cares about the material. Combined with pretty hilarious commentary about everything you could imagine (he talked about bigfoot and baseball in a lecture about rationality!!) it makes for an entertaining and enlightening experience
He's very funny, and is great with telling you what exactly to expect on his exams. You don't have to read too much from the textbook but it will help, especially if you're confused on a topic. Go to class, do your article readings the way he tells you to do them, take LOTS of notes, study and you will pass. I suck at politics but did great.
Saladino is hilarious and an amazing lecturer. You will need to study for this gen ed but I really enjoyed going to his class.
Saladino is an EXCELLENT professor. He teaches the material very well and creates great, and very funny examples to certain aspects of the lectures with allow you to remember them for tests. You definitely need to listen to lectures closely and take GOOD and ARTICULATED notes, however, if you do this combined with the readings then you will be fine
Dropped this class before the second exam because I was so confused, and not for a lack of trying! I went to every class and did the reading but Saladino just starts rambling about random stuff and just doesn't make any sense. He seemed like a cool dude but we just didn't vibe well.
Prof. Saladino's IR course is informative & entertaining; he basically covers world history from 1790present through the lens of global politics. Saladino explains war, diplomacy, trade, & government from a poli-sci standpoint. Reading the text is recommended, but not mandatory; attending class, however, is vital for understanding the material.
Definitely the best of the three polisci professors I had my first semester. Lectures were actually fairly enjoyable, and useful for the exams (contrast, say, 103). Liked to mouth off occasionally, though, but it's all bark and no bite, in that he'll rib you while being actually really nice to you. Class difficulty was just right. Overall recommend
great class, will learn a lot but attendance is necessary. also there are not many grades, so tests are extremely important.
This was one of the worst classes I have ever taken at VCU. I'm currently a junior and never thought I would take a class that was so bad. There are only two tests and a final with 3 assignments that are based on pass/fail and a map quiz. He is very passive aggressive when you ask him questions and I would recommend taking it with someone else.
Saladino is a knowledgeable guy when it comes to IR. It's very important that you go to his lectures because he provides all the testable material through them. Not many grades in the class so try your best on each assignment. I personally did not use the textbook and still received an A in the class. Overall a hilarious guy and great prof.
If you hate the subject youll hate the class, but make sure to show up. Attendance isnt required but your grade will thank you as his posted slideshow is pretty vague. He really stresses reading the textbooks, but I havent even opened them and Ive got a solid B.
Professor Saladino is a great professor. He is funny and knows his stuff. I just wish that the textbook was more involved and more assignments to allow us to boost our grades.
Professor Saladino is the best! The way he gives his lectures is both informative and entertaining. I highly recommend taking his class if you need to take International Relations. If you take good notes during the lectures and read the assigned reading, you should have no problem in his class.
A lot of people get frustrated by this class and that is understandable since it is pretty hard for a 100 level class but Saladino is a great professor and his lectures are detailed and prepare you for the three exams (30% each). He is also clear about how grades work. IR can be pretty dry if you don't like it, but Saladino is a solid choice.
Professor Saladino is a great guy and professor. He is really funny and tries to make his lectures interesting, which is hard to do with International Relations. Their is not much work for this class except studying for the 3 exams and 1 map quiz. Dont feel inimidated by this class or the professor, you will learn to like the class and him.
This class is a very traditional: go to lecture and listen, read a whole bunch from both textbooks (if you choose to), and study. His lectures are super boring sometimes, but if you don't want to read you should go to them (no tophat or clickers for attendance). If you put in the work, you'll get a good grade.
His class is extremely lecture based, he's really funny and know's what he's talking about, but don't even try to ask questions. He makes his students feel stupid, and quite literally called me stupid during his class. He cares about what he's teaching but that's quite it.
Professor Saladino is one of the best POLI professors at VCU. His lectures are great, and you'll ace the class if you have good attendance and study his powerpoints/ your notes! On top of the great lectures and sense of humor, Saladino also offers extra credit opportunities and is empathetic and understanding towards students.
Saladino is one of my favorite professors I've had. He's hilarious and makes his lectures really interesting with his humor. Tests are pretty much the only real thing he grades on (there's like 3-4 homework assignments that count) but they're really easy as long as you just listen to the lectures.
Can be rough around the edges but he's a great professor. I would for sure take him again. You'll learn to take his sense of humor. Attendance isn't mandatory but he clearly gives out test questions during lecture so GO TO LECTURE. You can't survive solely on the powerpoint.
Lectures are long and boring. He can be rude and tough, you really need to put in effort for this class and study. I'm not a political science major and found this class hard and un interesting. If you are looking for an easy A, you won't find it here. Also never answers emails and is never on time. If you go to his office hours, go towards the end
Professor Saladino is an amazing professor!!! His lectures are hilarious but stays on task. If you go to lecture and S.I. it is a very easy A!!! Highly recommend.
Took him for an 8 week summer course online. Never posted an official syllabus. Did not grade any assignments until the last week of class. Posted the midterm and research paper over a week after they were supposed to be assigned, giving students less time to work on the assignments. The course ended a whole week after it was supposed to end.
My favorite man. Maybe the most sarcastic person on the planet. Literally just read the power points and the review sheets and you are good for exams. People who fail this class are dummies. Try to avoid emailing him, or just do it. Its fun hearing him complain about emails.
Hated the class but loved the professor. If you go to SI sessions you can easily pass the class & never open either of the textbooks the entire semester.
He is super funny and his lectures are good but his tests are very hard to study for. Show up to class, take good notes, and ASK QUESTIONS!
I absolutely loved Saladino's class! He was a great speaker, but you definitely won't pass the class if you don't show up. I managed to get through the class with a high B barely even. touching my textbook, but it probably would have helped if I had read the textbook ahead of time. His tests are hard but as long as you study you should be fine.
Loved this class. Attendance isn't mandatory but most test questions are in class so you want to go, plus he makes the class fun and enjoyable. You should use the textbook but can get by without it
his lecture slides are outlines for what he talks about, so take detailed notes. tests are short but difficult, 50 questions in 50 minutes. offers 15pts of extra credit at end of semester but must attend an event during semester. really funny guy and sometimes rambles during class. take notes with a laptop because he talks fast.
Lackluster. Sometimes he seemed happy and other days he was bitter. Did not update anything on his blackboard. He would get upset if you did homework ahead of time even though the material was available. Notes would be labelled from last semester and the whole class was just confusing. Confusion in understanding your exam scores even.
Saladino has good lectures which can get boring, but if you go, he will give you 3-5 question answers that will be on the exam. He is funny. He does require a bit of reading outside of class, but he shows you a method so you don't have to do the full reading and still know the material. SI have marathon sessions before the exam which help alot.
Saladino is an intimidating guy, but overall pretty cool. Although attendance isn't mandatory the tests focus mainly on lecture material. If you don't like lecture classes DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I got A's on all exams with minimum studying; however, you must pay attention during lecture to pass. If you put in effort in class you'll pass.
I liked him! This class is very easy if you study the material, go to class, and attend SI sessions. You will only fail if you don't study or pay attention in lecture. He can be intimidating but has a good sense of humour. Offers extra credit at the end of the semester. Only 3 exams in total which were really easy in my opinion. Study hard!
Saladinos lectures were not only informative, but hilarious with relevant examples that helped teach the content. I would not skip the lectures as he gives multiple exam questions per lecture. Overall the exams are not difficult and if you follow his instructions you will do just fine.
Saladino is great! if you dont go to class youre not gonna pass, the tests are heavily lecture/ppt based. Go to SI sessions! they help a LOT! hes so funny and you can tell he knows what hes talking about! I wasnt too interested in IR but he definitely made it worth learning! hes also really understanding which is great, highly recommend!
Don't bother going to class, you won't learn anything either way. Don't buy the books either, not super relevant. He is a good person and funny: but you won't leave the class knowing anything. He does give up to 15 points of extra credit that will be added onto the first test, which really helps your overall grade.
Arrogant professor. Thank goodness I won't be taking a class with him again.
Professor Saladino is a funny teacher and makes lecture enjoyable. It is definitely wise to show up to lecture or you will have a tough time. I know that if I didn't go, i don't know if I would have passed. The book isn't necessarily needed but there were instances we read, only opened it once or twice though. Put in the effort and you'll be fine.
3 exams, map quiz and web assignments will make your grade. Sit in the front bc he doesn't use a mic. To pass you need to either read the text OR go to class. But you should read the articles he assigns. I never went to student sessions but I'm sure they help you get an A. I got a B after doing minimal work. I just went to every class and studied.
Professor Saladino is pretty cool. His lectures aren't boring at all and he is very enthusiastic. He uses lots PowerPoints and gives study guides. Honestly I didn't open the textbook once. He also barely gives homework!
Mr. Saladino is a very captivating lecturer. If you go to class, take notes, skim the article readings (know the author and the general idea), and go to SI sessions, you can get an A or A+. I recommend forming a study group.
Saladino is a great professor and lectures are not boring! Go to class, take notes on lectures, and do all readings/assignments and you are set, it is a lot of material, but if you keep up it is doable. Only used to textbook occasionally, also don't act up in class or he will call you out
Best professor at VCU. You will laugh most of the class. Makes very dense stuff super interesting and makes you want to learn more about it. You will also learn about whiskey. Do exactly what he wants for the papers and you will get a good grade. Dude is amazing. Used to be in a band. Used to be a chef. Smart as hell. No professor even comes close.
Amazing prof! Lectures are interesting and he is so funny. He is clearly passionate and he inspired me to minor in Poli Sci. The tests are a challenge and you do have to study, but he gives you every possible resource to do so. His assignments and expectations are always very clear and he's always up to date on BB announcements.
Lots to read and some of the content can be difficult. However, he is a GREAT professor and a great person too. If you do take him, go to his office hours, go to the SI sessions, study your notes and you will be FINE. Solid choice
I had Professor Saladino during COVID-19. He was such a humorous man that made his in class lectures worth the time. STUDYING IS ESSENTIAL! There is no way youll be able to pass the class without knowing the material. As things transitioned into online, it became harder and there was less connection through zoom
I took Professor Saladino for a summer course and he never even posted a syllabus despite repeated requests. He did not outline the reading or course expectations and assignments were posted on BlackBoard as he felt like assigning them. The course is over and I still do not have a single graded assignment. No idea whether I even passed.
Saladino is an amazing professor who knows what he's talking about. That being said if you don't show up to class or don't pay attention you're screwed. Also don't say anything dumb, but I've went to his office hours for help on a paper and if he sees you're actually trying he can be super helpful and nice.
I love Professor Saladino. He is very nice and keeps the class interesting and entertaining. His work is very easy and hardly anything, it's mainly lecture-based with a few readings. This class consisted of 3 exams, 3 very short assignments, and one quiz on the map. Tip: If you don't put in the effort you will fail.
He did pretty well remote, I think. He always tells you what's going to be on the test so you can review the material. The lectures are fun to listen to, and he'll shoot down irritating questions without answering. If it can be answered on the syllabus or another document don't bother asking, which I love. Overall good; I hope I can take him again.
The info itself isn't terrible, just make sure to attend lectures, you will definitely struggle with the exams if you do not. The class only had 5 things that counted towards the final grade, 3 of which were 30% of the grade so it's a bit stressful, but it's clear from the start of the course that that's the deal. He's blunt and straight forward.
The class is easy, 3 exams (1,2,final), 3 hws that are a couple sentences long (easy!) and a chance to gain 15 points of extra credit (for 3 essays, 1pg). The only issue I had with this class is the relaying of information. I stopped going to the online lectures because of how confusing he became. Tends to be rude if you don't get his instructions
Well if you wanna email him, don't, just look in the zoom and your answer should be there. The class is boring and if you can take another class as a gen ed, do so. The 2 tests were easy, one quiz, 3 homeworks, easy A. Saladino's dog is super cute, love George(:
Saladino has a strong personality that can be a turnoff to some, but he definitely knows IR. He teaches hundreds of people so he's pretty no-nonsense. Watching lecture is critical. I do not recommend buying the books: there was about 1 question per test that was like "Which author wrote this article" -- not worth paying money to get the two books!
The lectures are kind of hard to follow and he will make you feel dumb for asking questions. He was rude and in a bad mood almost all the time. Textbook, assigned readings, and lectures will help you pass.
Class is easy, prof is not. 3 tests, 1 quiz, 3 web based assignments. Each test worth 30% of your grade. Prof is rude to students, yells at them for asking questions (when he just asked for any), non-responsive to emails. Don't buy the books. Show up, listen, read the ppt and you can pass. Don't expect him to be nice or helpful, he's not.
You're either going to be completely fine with him or you're going to despise him. If you're not interested in politics I wouldn't take this class. He usually just lectures for around an hour, if you take good notes the tests will be fine. He's very arrogant so if you're not someone who understands things without teacher help, I wouldn't recommend.
Because of the pandemic the class had to be online. Definitely go to the online lectures. Theres 1 map quiz, 3 EASY web assignments, & 3 exams. Write notes & study for the quiz & exams & the class can be very manageable.
This class was a very unpleasant experience. He made inapporopriate and demeaning comments toward his wife while on a zoom call with over 100 students to hear. He's incredibly egotistical and made it difficult to want to come to class.
Just show up to class and you'll pass. If your late or skip class a lot I would not recommend asking questions he can be very sassy. Especially don't ask questions where the answer is in the syllabus, he does not like that one bit. Other than that he is a great professor who has the ability to make you truly learn about the subject matter.
Professor Saladino is an amazing lecturer and he knows what is he talking about, but he is very rude to students who asks questions and is arrogant. INTL 105 was pretty easy and straight forward. His powerpoints are kind of all over the place and hard to decipher, so listen to the lectures in order to understand what the powerpoints mean.
He was rude if you asked questions, but the class was pretty straightforward. The blackboard was unorganized and the powerpoints would be to, but I didn't go to class often and still got an A. There are only 3 multiple choice tests and one quiz, but they were pretty easy to study for with the resources provided.
Saladino is a very intelligent professor. There are 3 exams that your whole grade basically relies on which can either be really good or bad for you. Attend the SI sessions because they do help. There is a good amount of reading done in this class.
class was very boring but a nice easy A. Just watch the lectures and take notes. That was enough for me. There is some additional reading you have to do. His dog was cute.
he's intimidating but it's a front. this is a study-heavy and lecture heavy class. there's like no homework which is nice, but definitely go to lectures and ALWAYS go to SI before tests. again, if you take notes in lectures and study well for tests you'll get A's.
Saladino isn't the most organized professor and what's needed on the exams can be sometimes vague. Although attending class and reading over his powerpoints will get you a good grade in the class. I admire his zero tolerance for bs and his jokes. The exams are super straightforward so don't overthink about them just know the general information
Solid professor, good sense of humor. Lectures are generally clear, and prof is experienced with online lectures. Prof can seem a bit mean at the start of semester, but overall they're a nice person. 3 exams determine 90% of your grade, the other 10% is almost for free. Use office hours (at end of classtime); they're quite helpful.
Lots of lecture material but tests are fairly easy and straightforward as long as you study well and know the basics of everything. Up to 15 extra credit points at the end of the semester. Only 3 tests which was intimidating at first but it wasn't too bad. Textbook isn't needed. He's a great lecturer who definitely knows what he's talking about!
Definitely knows whats hes talking about but he can be a bit rude, its very lecture heavy so make sure you go to class
Attend the SI sessions ! Chances are you will learn nothing from his lectures and you'll need to attend at least 2-3 SI sessions weekly to actually learn something. His exams are pretty hard and if you fail one don't expect at most a B later on. He rambles A LOT and can be rude. Don't ask questions and he emails back slow.
I took Professor Saladino for International Relations (INTL 105) for the Fall 2021 semester. You're not required to attend class, but imperative because just about everything he says during the lecture will show up on a test. He can be a bit over the top at times, but the class isn't too difficult.
So he definitely rambles alot and is quite repetitive. He has a a sense of humor which some might think can be too much. He doesn't count for attendance and the only assignments are a few quizzes and tests. He's not very organized as well but overall an easy class. my advice is to study the slides and skim through the text book.
Saladino's a great professor. He makes it clear what is going to be on his tests. If you don't attend lectures, you won't understand what is happening, but everything on his tests are from his lectures and there are no surprises. He gave extra credit, which helped a lot of people boost their grade. It's an overall interesting class if you like IR.
First thing off the bat is that you absolutely need to go to class to pass! But that being said, I found this course to be unorganized and confusing, especially on canvas. The lectures can also be a bit confusing and 90% of the class grade is on 3 tests. Not exactly the type of curriculum I'm a fan of, but maybe it works for others.
Funny man
The tests are hard, but the professor makes the class interesting
Hardest class ever, he literally sits and lectures about himself for 3 hours then assigns over 10 page papers
You have to go to class to pass the class. The only assignments you have are 1 map quiz, 3 exams, and 3 short homework assignments that counted as one grade all together. There is a textbook for the class but I never touched it. He is very funny and if you study you will pass the exams.
definitely a favorite class of mine. professor is funny and makes the material easy to digest for a wide audience. he provides extra credit too
Not that much classwork so tests are extremely important
Poli 105, International relations. If you go to every class, take good notes, and study for your exams, you will do better than 80% of the people there. He gives 3 exams, each test is worth 30% of your grade. Then you have a 5% map quiz and 5% cumulative HW. the textbook is needed for the first half of class, but you could prob go without.
Only a couple exams and 3 assignments so the grade is very much so weighed based off your exams. Provides extra credit. LISTEN to the lectures and attend class!! Class wont make sense if you just read the powerpoints. Very funny and helpful if you ask questions (after class) a little intimidating but he clearly cares about his job and students.
This man is so funny, you will not get bored in the class. His class is decently easy, he tells you how to get a good grade in his class. Do the extra credits, study for the quizzes and tests, and take good notes, and you will get a good grade. There are quizlets and notes from previous classes, so just google and ask around.
Mr. Saladino is HILARIOUS. I took his POLI 364 Vietnam class and he was the highlight of my Monday. There are many textbooks(most of which are free), lots of reading, but overall an easy class. As long as you do the work and the assigned papers there is NO way you can fail. TAKE HIS CLASSS
Saladino is a hilarious dude and knows what he's talking about regarding IR and history in general. But. His Canvas page and lectures are very unorganized. He's admitted he hasn't updated his lectures/PPTs in years. You're graded on 3 exams, a map quiz, and two assignments. He's a great dude and is engaging, but I wouldn't take it over again.
Saladino is great. He changed my outlook on the class despite not having the best grade. Just be prepared to LISTEN. Powerpoint notes won't get you by with a terrific grade. He's funny and when you ask for help he goes the extra mile to clarify. It's clear he knows what he's talking about, but I feel like things could be more straightforward.
OK class, but wouldn't take again. Somewhat easy to pass if you pay attention and are GOOD AT TAKING NOTES/STUDYING! If you don't like learning through lectures this isn't the class for you. No homework which is nice, but there are only 3 tests which are almost your whole grade, so if you don't study you will fail.
Professor Saladino is very knowledgeable and passionate about the course and is a great lecturer. Attendance isn't mandatory but the amount of work that is only covered in lectures makes going to class really important. majority of grades comes from tests and quizzes, but if you pay attention and put in effort you are fine. Love Professor Saladino!
Worst class ever. I withdrew from it mid Oct. Boring lectures and grade is based on only 4 LONG tests. If you aren't a history nerd don't take this class as an elective.
Great Guy! The class is interesting but it's extremely hard due to the amount of grades in the class with only 4 exams and one test. It's hard to make a good grade or even pass, and in my opinion it is way too intense for an intro course/gen ed. Harder than any major class I have ever taken. Take it if you want a stressful finals week.
Saladino is very witty and his lectures aren't boring, but he sometimes can go on long tangents about one topic. Class only three tests and little additional grades, so the tests can be a lot cuz it is dense material. Take notes on lectures and follow the study guides and you will be okay. His lecture slides are a little all over the place tho.
Funny guy, difficult class for a 100 level. Goes on many tangents but v knowledgeable. Graded by 3 tests,1 quiz,&1 hw so do your work. attendance isn't taken but you need to go to class. Study like your life depends on it 3 days before the test and you'll be fine, but you HAVE to study. 15 points of extra credit available at the end which is helpful
Professor Saladino cares a lot about his subject area and wants his students to do well. Weird teaching style though. He was easy to talk to individually, but in class could become passive aggressive when students would ask questions. I would get drinks with him (he's hilarious), but I can't say I would take him as a professor again.
Attendance isn't mandatory but you still have to go to each class. Drops hints about what will be on the first test, less on 2nd and 3rd. He's a solid teacher, very knowledgeable, but oftentimes combative when answering students' questions. Try not to buy the textbook, you'll only need it a little. The 3 homework assignments are easy.
He is a very NO BS type professor. If you ask a dumb question, he will make you feel dumb. Most exam material is straight from lectures, and he will tell you what a test question is. Just attend and take notes to study, and you'll be fine. This class is only easy if YOU make it easy for yourself.
Tests: 90% Map Quiz: 5% Homework: 5%. Class isn't hard if you take notes. Study and you will be fine. Didn't spend more than an hour a week on this course and did fine. He's really funny and isn't afraid to make jokes. Just do your work,. He's great.
Your grade in this class is based on 3 tests, a map quiz, 3 short assignments, and 1 extra credit assignment. If you want to get a good grade in the class you have to do well on those few assignments. Saladino himself is a good professor, his lectures are entertaining and he teaches what's on the test.
Saladino is a funny guy who gives interesting and engaging lectures. Most of your final grade comes from the exams, and most of the course content is provided during his lectures, so definitely go to class if you want to do well. My only qualm was that he always went past the end of class with his lecturing after just yapping for the first 10 mins.
decent guy, but when i need to talk to a professor and it takes four tries to get a response its complicated. ig hes busy but still. however, still helped me when i needed it. just a lot of uneccesary stress.
Professor Saladino is a knowledgeable and engaging lecturer, but the class is quite challenging. Attending lectures is crucial, as the content is not fully covered in the textbook. UnstuckStudy AI was a lifesaver for exam prep - highly recommend using it alongside regular studying.
Saladino obviously cares a lot about international relations but was really unhappy when a lot of people failed the first test. To be honest he warned the class that the exams were hard. He was pretty happy when we did a lot better on the second test. His lectures are full of stories that help make boring material much more interesting. He's funny!
He really is a great professor 10/10. Just make sure to go to class because that's where the test questions are and make sure to study. But other than that, it's a pretty straightforward class. He explains the topics clearly and well so that it's easy to understand. Like he simplifies concepts well and gives examples.
You have to go to class and pay attention to do well, even though attendance isn't required, he'll give answers away. 3 tests, 3 HW, and a map quiz, so STUDY for all of your tests about a week before using his study guides. People will rate him bad, but that's only because they always skip class. He's a great teacher and he's hilarious!!!
105 with Saladino is fairly easy if you go to class, take notes on the power points and what he adds to them during lectures, and study your notes well for the tests. Saladino is really knowledgeable about the topics and makes the lectures interesting. With the three homework assignments and extra credit if needed an A is totally achievable.
Really funny and knowledgeable professor. You definitely should listen to every lecture and take notes. It's college; that's not hard. He literally tells you what will be on the test. I found it quite easy. It's basically a map quiz, three exams, and three ridiculously easy homework questions. No real homework; textbook reading once.
He was a great guy, but all he does is read off of the lecture slides. Sometimes I feel like there's no point in even going to class because I know I'll have to end up teaching myself anyways. There's a map quiz, 3 exams, and 3 short HW assignments. It's not the hardest class ever, but just be prepared to put in the work.
I love Professor Saladino, he is a hoot and a holler. He's a captivating speaker, it's easy to follow along in his lectures and understand what he's talking about. Plus, he's funny. Your grade for this class is made up mostly by exam grades and very very very VERY easy and straightforward homework. 10/10, would recommend, wish he taught everything.
take him if youre willing to sit through his boring lectures. thats pretty much the only way youre gonna get an A. i skipped most of his classes and got a B, but i didn't watch his weekly video lectures that were an hour. he is passionate about what he teaches clearly and 90% of your grade comes from exams, the other 10 is from homework and 1 quiz
difficult to get an A but rlly engaging and knowledgable professor
Saladino is the easily best professor I've had at VCU. He is certainly a tad intimidating; I always had to psych myself up before answering a question. But his intelligence and humor more than make up for it. He knows IR inside and out. If you attend class, pay attention, and study a bit, you'll pass with flying colors.
Easily the funniest professor I've had in college so far. He gives a lot of info about what's expected on exams and makes getting an A pretty easy. So charismatic.
Straight to the point. Very easy to follow. Simple class, simple rubric, simple system. And he's absolutely hilarious. Take this class.
He is funny, his lectures are engaging, but sometimes can be unorganized. He tells you the answers to the test IN HIS LECTURES, so... actually show up to class. He's a pretty easy grader and is super understanding. This is a really easy class to take as a schedule filler, and there's not a lot of work.
Even though attendance doesn't matter, his lectures are crucial and can't be recorded. His lectures are more useful than his slideshows. The class is easy, but his lecturing is disorganized and confusing. You must do article reading. They're on the exam. If you're bad at history, avoid it. Slides are messy and outdated, but his lectures are funny.
honestly, hes not a bad teacher but i absolutely hated the subject and couldnt withdraw due to my circumstances. attendance is optional and his slides are messy. but PLEASE attend his classes, his lectures so important compared to the slides. every class he will blatantly tell you the answer to a test question. also go to his spaghetti dinner.
SHOW UP TO CLASS. The slideshows are a mess, and he fills in the blanks that the slideshow doesn't cover fully, and he'll hint to you what will be on the exams. You can lowkey pass without using the textbook in my opinion, but stay on top of your work. He has fun stories to tell, and some of them helped me remember my material, pay attention tho.
If you do NOT need to take this class, don't. He honestly wasn't that bad of a professor, he was just disorganized in my opinion. The slides make no sense so it's important you go to his lectures to fill in those blanks. You can tell he is a very knowledgeable man in the subject of International Relations which is a good sign. Overall, it was ok.
