Chris is a very understanding and easy-going professor with a great sense of humor. This introductory course is mainly common sense, but he still makes it interesting. He's a big fan of group work, and you'll do a lot of assignments in his class. As a bonus, he is very easy on the eyes. Genuinely caring professor, recommended class.

I've taken two classes with Chris now, and I have to say both were incredible. I don't think I've ever had so much fun in a class and learned so much at the same time! Chris is extremely intelligent, somewhat laid back, outgoing, funny, and caring. If you show up and pay attention you'll do just fine. Chris is a teacher I will never forget!

Mr.Smejkal is an awesome teacher. He's a really cool guy that really gets in to what he teaches. As long as you show up an try, theres no reason you shouldn't pass. I took his class for oral comm, now i'm taking him for gender comm. Highly recommend, really cool teacher

He's very clear with the topics. He's funny and understanding. You get to review for tests. Don't worry about the final speech at the end, you get to write on a note card and use it. The reviews you do in class REALLY help for the tests. If I studied more I would have done better. Don't make my mistake.

Not only is he one of the most intelligent people I have ever met, but he genuinely loves teaching and will do whatever it takes to help you. Don't take him for advantage though. He is hottt! LOL he is a very good teacher and knows a lot of what he is talking about but you HAVE to practice your speeches, cant wing it in his class. and one paper due the whole semester that's all.

Although I hated giving speeches due to anxiety, he made it so easy to do. I never thought I would receive the grade I did. If you do the work and take time on your speecheswork you will do great!

Listen, Chris has to be one of the best teachers I have come across. A lot of reviews say about others but I'm serious; this is the real deal. Extremely easy to rack up points by doing easy assignments. A few small papers on topics that are good and fun to write about. Very meaningful discussions. Do the work an A. & they're right: he's hot.

I got on here to rate Chris as awesome and saw a "poor" in gender class. I don't know what world this dude was in. I was in this class too. Look people there are two tests that he gives you a study guide for I studied just them and rocked the tests And there are a few 2 page papers on your opinions that he grades SUPER EASY! Chris is great. Period.

I loved Chris class soo much. He was the best professor I ever had soo far. I had him for oral communication at 9:00 every Monday wed and Friday . He was very nice I recommend him to anybody that want to pass this course. He will work with you only if you are helping your self. But trust me he know the material of this class. Please pick him.

Chris treated everyone the same, no matter if they was smarter or not. He truly care about his students . He is very smart . He will teach you what you need to know for this course but it's your job to do what you need to do. Study for the tests and read the pages in the blue book everyday and you will pass . And he always reply back to emails .

This class is so much fun! In this class we always had a fun time discussing the information. Chris does not stand at the board and lecture he like to have everyone involved and have a big or small groups discussion. I would recommend taking this class!

What a great professor, Chris Smejkal, is. He and his lectures are engaging and thorough. He makes sure students understand everything before moving on, and he gives great examples of each and everything he taught us.

Coming into Gender Com, I had no idea what it was really going to be about, and now I'm full of knowledge. Chris is amazing! He is always willing to work hard for his students who show up and participate and there's no excuse to not get an A. His class is not very hard. The topics were interesting and I'm so glad I choose to take this class!

LOVE Chris!!! His class was an Easy A. He has a great personality which makes the class enjoyable. Doesn't count attendance, tests are 35 mult. choice (info directly from handbook). Gives extra credit assignments. Makes you work in partners/groups a lot. A few projects, a few papers, overall, good class to boost your GPA.

Chris was very personable. He was a nice guy and made you want to do well in his class. He always kept class interesting and made everything easy to understand. . I loved how he graded. He didn't grade how well you did on your speech, interview, etc., he graded your reflection of what you think you did well and what you could improve on. Great guy.

If youre looking for the least amount of public speaking in an oral communications class with easy group work and an easy to manage schedule, take this class. Chris is an amazing professor and makes classes fun and interesting. He has a great sense of humor and cares a lot for his students.

Fantastic professor, always responds (nearly immediately) to e-mails and questions. Hes a hilarious teacher, and if you show up and turn in your (minimal) homework, theres no reason not to get an A.

If you fail his class, it simply proves you do not care about your college education. Chris makes his course easy to understand through compassion and humor. Literally, all you have to do is pay attention and PARTICIPATE. Even if youre wrong, it helps you learn. I can't stress that enough. Hes really the epitome of a quality professor. #respect

He makes class engaging. If you're stuck on something, simply ask and he'll go into as much detail as he can. Tests are super simple if you study what he tells you to.

Feels like your listening to a Ted Talk most of the class, that's how inspirational he is. He is very respectful and understanding. Main book use in the class is the $13 study guide, no need to buy the textbook. Tests are mainly common sense. Seems impossible to fail this class. Also only one required speech!!

You guys, this was the class I dreaded the most for college and Chris made it my favorite for the semester. I'm an introvert and he made this class so comfortable and enjoyable. Please, if you have to take Oral Com choose him! You do need to show up and buy the $11 study guide, but overall an easy A. I promise :)

Chris's Interpersonal Communications course was one of my favorites classes I have taken so far. Everything that we went over during the course of the semester is relevant in every day life. We use communication on a daily basis, and this class teaches you how to better your skills. Chris is an amazing professor and I highly recommend this class.

His was one of the first classes I took in college, and he really set the bar pretty high. Chris was always engaged with his students, making jokes and making a seemingly dull topic quite interesting. I learned so much from this class because of him. The textbook is a bit expensive, but its a really common one and can be found for cheap elsewhere.

He is the nicest teacher I've ever had. It makes it very clear how passionate he is about his students and their success. This class was really chill, it consists of mostly discussions. All of the work is easy as long as you pay attention, and it is hard not to pay attention to him because he is very engaging and relatable. Chris is so amazing!!!!!

Chris is passionate about his students and communication. He uses presentations, films, discussion circles, and personal life stories. He is fairly flexible when it comes to honors projects. If you show up and actively participate in class and use the textbook, you should do fine. I had Gender Communication and Interpersonal Communication with him.

One of the greatest professors I've had. Very humble and down to earth professor who "prefers students call him by his first name". I'm not sure why, but to me, this always says something about a professor and their willingness to get to know their students. So helpful, and made you feel like you're more than just a number. He genuinely cares.

Chris is an amazing professor, he genuinely cares for all of his students. He offers three separate extra credit assignments throughout the semester. I also took him during spring 2020 - so I took part of the class in person and the rest of the class online. Even though he isn't a fan of online learning, he was still reachable and understanding.

This class is way more interesting than I thought it would be. There's two books, a study guide and a text book. If you're taking the online class you can get by with just the study guide. (it's $8) There's one or two discussion boards every other week or so, and they only require a paragraph at most. Group activities are easy too

Exams use both of the textbooks, so be prepared to read those. He is very responsive with emails and genuinely wants the best for his students. He really encourages participation and teaches in a creative and interesting way.

Chris is an amazing professor. Lectures are great. He's a honest grader. As long as you show up and do the assignments (they are not difficult) its an easy A. He answers emails minutes after I send them. He could teach rocket science and I would still take his class. He just wants you to learn something. Seriously take his class lol.

Chris is a really great guy! He genuinely cares about his students. My only tiff with him is that if you miss a class, he takes away 5 points. Those points can add up quickly. He assigns TONS of group work, so if you hate group work his classes are not for you. He shows lots of videos. He hardly ever actually lectures on actual content of the class

I can honestly say that I have never came across a professor who genuinely cares about his or her students more than prof. Smejkal. He truly wants the best for his students and is willing to jump through hoops in order to help you succeed. He is so caring and understanding. 10/10 recommend him to anyone.

Chris is a great teacher. I love the feedback he gave me on my speeches and how much he emphasizes to talk about something you love instead of choosing a topic for you. My entire class even though we were virtual we felt like we got to know each other and that was because of Chris and him bringing us all together. Best class this semester by far!

Honestly one of the best online professors I have ever had for STLCC!!! A very engaging and funny teacher. Always willing to help answer any questions you might or will have about tests, homework, and any other things about the class. Given that this was strictly an online virtual class, I feel Chris did an excellent job leading it.

This was the most "normal" online class I've taken because he required us to turn on our cameras and work in groups. Overall, I learned a lot in this class and would highly recommend taking it.

Chris's defining characteristic is how much he cares about his students. The class I took, interpersonal communication, encouraged communication and community within the class to a level I had not experienced in a class before. Chris was really nice! He always was available to meet with me and help me with speeches. I usually don't like speaking in front of people and although this class was taken online I still got nervous, but Chris gave us tips and everything about how to do well on speeches which really helped.

The textbook we read was small and not super expensive and we only used it a few times. He made public speaking fun and helped relieve the anxieties commonly associated with it! Chris is one of my favorite professors this semester! He makes the class very easy and gives you all the material you need. He makes all his lectures entertaining and there is not much work besides the occasional paper or test. 100% would recommend taking him!!

So funny. Depending on the class, it can be a little difficult, but if you pay attention it should not be too bad, plus he gives us chances to get a lot of extra credit which will build up towards the end. And as long as you try, it doesn't matter if you get it wrong or not on the extra credit, you still get the points.

I was in Chris's class when the pandemic hit. He transitioned to online learning seamlessly despite the fact that he's on record with The Montage as hating it. In both forums, I learned a lot from him. His classes are very participation heavy, and attendance matters if you want to do well. But attendance is well worth it. He's very good at his job.

Dont buy the textbook you don't need it. Class was great overall, but there is a final exam and its really stupid. If you put in the work in this class you will do fine. He is kinda picky about grades but I don't think its totally unfair but its pretty hard to get a 100% on anything. Take his class, even if its at 8am.

Most of the grade are on the tests and essay papers. If you show up to class and pay attention, you'll breeze through these assignments. He's very knowledgable about the subject and tries to make his lectures as enjoyable as it is informative. Doesn't take long to reply to emails either and always treat his students with kindness.

Dr. Chris was a fantastic instructor! He was so sweet and caring toward his students. He also strongly encouraged group participation and communication, which was very helpful for completing specific assignments. The class also leaned a bit toward the easier side. If those things sound good to you, take this man. You will not regret it at all.

Chris was a great professor and I really enjoyed taking his class. He's funny, easy going, and the class isn't lecture or homework heavy. Tests aren't that hard as long as you do the practice cycles in class. There are a few papers you have to write, and he grades those a little tougher. Overall it was a great and easy class!

I took Professor Smejkal over the summer online class. The class was one of the best classes I had and I would take him again. He responds well. Gives good feed back and very encouraging. My class mates were just as encouraging. The class felt like a support group. I loved it!!!

For any communications class, aim for a seat in Smekjal's class. He is the most caring teacher I've ever met. He will make sure you succeed while also taking into account on how you may be feeling on a daily. Very understanding with all unexpected situations that may come about. Ideal teacher.

Super fun class, Chris is quite engaging lectures and they help a lot in understanding material. There are tests that are 35 questions and 5 are from a textbook but honestly the textbook wasn't really useful. You definitely do need the Oral Communication Handbook though. He's also very clear in what he wants from you and is willing to help.

By far the best professor I've taken any classes with. Respectful, funny, and well-versed in modern issues. I have trouble staying awake in most of my classes, but I rarely do in his. Maybe it's because I like the subject, but he's very laid-back and understanding. 100% recommend taking classes with him.

Canvas is not used at all so you need to be in class in order to keep up with things. Weekly homework for the most part, but it is easy. This class is very heavy on interacting with other classmates, there are group and class discussions almost every class, and the final assignment is one big group project that you work on throughout the semester.

Easy + fun class, and easy to pay attention to. I was able to understand every instruction he made as he's pretty straightforward. He said there's 5 questions on tests that come from the textbook, but the textbook I had didn't have the questions, but I still passed all the tests with a minimum of B. Don't slack on essays, they're easy.

Professor Smejkal's class was incredibly enjoyable. I took his Interpersonal Communication class over the Summer 2023 semester. He gives clear instructions and great feedback. He also kindly provided me with an academic recommendation for my next college.

Very easy, you pretty much just have to show up and do some easy assignments, it was engaging too, you get to watch a movie and have discussions. And he is super nice and seems to care about everyone.

Super kind and understanding. Easy class as long as you put in effort. Material actually felt relevant to real life which is a plus. Assignments usually involved reading or watching given material and discussing your thoughts and reactions to it-- no wrong answers. Essays are kept pretty short if that's a concern. 2-3 pages double spaced max.

One of the best professors I've ever had. Super caring and understanding, gives good lectures, and is easily accessible outside of class. Made the topic extremely interesting and engaging, and was an easy grader when it came to the papers we had to write. Would definitely take his class again!

The best professor I had during my time at STLCC. Super caring and interactive, makes his lectures fun. Assigned a decent amount of busy work but its not difficult and he is not a tough grader. There is a big group project at the end, but you have all semester to work on it and you can make it fun. Would reccommend if looking for a COM credit.

Professor Smejkal was the best professor I've had! His lectures are funny, he is helpful and replies quickly to emails, and he is an easy grader. The class was super fun and there was a heavy focus on class interaction and students sharing about themselves. Most assignments were just sharing about yourself. Material was super applicable!

Highly recommend Dr. Smejkal for any communication course! He is super friendly - provides great feedback on assignments and always responds quickly to emails. His online course is organized and straightforward. I enjoyed the class a lot and I learned so much about communication and interpersonal relationships.

Chris was an amazing professor! Class was fun; we watched The Breakfast Club and many episodes of Sienfield. Be ready to be social; there is a LOT of group work. Most grades are based on MCQ tests and 100-point papers for skill assignments. The textbook is required, but you aren't required to read it (I didn't, and I got an A). Overall 10/10!
