Chris is ok. I feel like I have already learned this material in other courses. I am not keen on all the group projects/presentations. Other 306 classes do not have this and it is a bit unfair to rely on others for 45% of your final grade. Wish I took this class with Eber who had no presentations and students made their own exams. Not fair.
The only thing I like about his class is that we get to choose whether we want to participate or not. It definitely stops there. He expects way too much of his students. It seems like he fails to remember that the majority of people have more than his class to attend and a life outside of school. I do not recommend this class.
Chris is a really good prof. Makes class interesting and easy to understand. He does, however, expect WAY too much. Class is a lot of work. Exams were decent if you went to class and skimed text material
I really dislike this class and this prof. Too many marks are allocated to participation. The group projects are ambiguous and too much time is spent working on them. I do have a life outside of this course and would like to maintain it. He doesn't mark fairly and make sure you memorize your part for your presentation or you will lose major marks!
Ugh this guy needs to give people a break. 12% of participation marks is a bit much not to mention all the group work entailed in this class. You spend endless hours working on a project to get a below average grade. Thanks for bringing down my 85% average. So not impressed. Take it with anyone else if you can!
This class was just ok. I really wish he would have enable participation through a forum as well as through class discussion like Bill Bonner does. It allows us shy people to get participation marks which in the end could be the difference between a 70 or 80 in the class. Overall like every other U of R class, not incredibly stimulating.
He is a good guy. Just needs to be clearer on assignments. The text was barely used for the class itself but was the main portion of the exams.
Thank god ethics is an easy course. Not only is he socially awkward but he lives in a world where everything revolves around his class. The first midterm was easy so therefore he had to make the final extremely hard. The group projects were useless after the first one. no one wants to listen to group projects for half the semester.
I don't understand why others complain about the participation marks; 6% just for showing up, another 6% for reading and being prepared. That plus another 10% based on assignments marked on effort. Easy 22% right there! He keeps his courses interesting thru videos and interactive discussions. I have absolutely no complaints.
Stay away from this class!!! Marking on exams came out of nowhere. He allocates marks to questions as he sees fit; students have no way of understanding what he is looking for. He expects far too much out of students; the work in this class is comparable to a 400 level case-based finance class. Ridiculous! This class will drop your average!
Participation marks were easy to get just by showing up. Cases weren't difficult and were more of a participation mark. His MT was extremely random but he made the final easy. Nice and very approachable guy. If I had to take it again I'd take it with him.
One of the greatest profs ive encountered!
Out of all the classes I have taken in university, Chris actually made attending class enjoyable. He gave great notes and used real life example and didn't just read off of power point slides. On the other hand, he is a very hard marker and it is hard to understand what exactly he is looking for when doing assignments and tests.
I thought I would enjoy this class going into but I ended up absolutely hating it. He's an extremely hard marker and although he bases his whole class on learning through innovation he makes his assignments and finals all about straight memorization of many pages of notes and charts. I wouldn't recommend him as a prof or taking this class from him.
I wish I never took his class. I did not learn a single thing. His classes were scattered and random. Same with the assignments. He marked everyone incredibly harsh with no justification. The final project was insanely tedious. He seems to be a nice guy, but he needs to learn how to organize a class. This was an awful experience. Avoid his classes
This was an interesting course.Important to keep up with the readings and intregrate this knowledge into your work immediately. Lots of open discussion and practice thru role plays.I was apprehensive about this but it augmented the learning. Remember each mark/exercise counts!I would take another class from Chris any time.Lots of energy and Fun!!
I took Innovation and Entrepreneurship with Chris Street in Fall '13. He did not provide organized notes. He used a lot of other professors references and research. I thought the class would be more on projects but there was lots of terms and theories to memorize. He is a hard marker. Not sure what he expected and wasn't clear.
After reading prior comments about other instructors and Business Ethics, I thought this class would be very straightforward and dull. Taking this class with Chris was one of the best choices I made in university. The material is extremely interesting and his ability to put it into application is awesome. TAKE IT FROM CHRIS U WILL BE GLAD U DID!!!
Excellent Class. I took this class on Fall 2013 and it has been one of the best learning experiences of my life. Great concepts, great project.
Awesome prof. I took PHIL 276 (Professional Ethics) and it came no where near the level of interest I had for this class. Class is mandatory, but it's a class that you also want to go to! I am taking negotiation with him in the fall and I am super excited! NOTE: do no miss quizzes he will not accommodate you for any reason! Super passionate prof A+
Take 375 from Chris! 1 small essay, 3 assignments, midterm and final. The assignments are a bit of work, but are worth 10-15% each so you are compensated for them. Midterm and final both very easy if you read your class notes and read the textbook. No complaints whatsoever! If you read your notes and the textbook, it's easy to get over an 80.
Chris is a very helpful prof. He is interesting and makes it fun to go to class. The assignments were practical and useful for the exam. You need to go to class because his exams are made up of diagrams he draws on the board, the other half is definitions from the textbook.
It was a heavy load but was well worth it as I learned a lot in his class. His teaching style is different but it's entertaining and his lectures and lessons have stuck with me.
Took the teaching of Ethics in a different approach - very interesting. If you figure out how he marks then you'll do well in the class. He is very specific in what he wants and if you display an understanding of the material you can receive 80's. Learnt a lot and enjoyed all the lectures. Text book is about 10 dollars.
If you want to learn about ethics from personal and professional perspectives, then take this class from Chris. He teaches in an informal - but VERY thought provoking manner through simulated exercises that you will never forget. The essays force you to ask "why"? on critical ethical issues that we will all face in the future. Very fair grader,
Chris is very passionate about what he teaches and has chosen a great text to supplement his lectures (literally the only text I've actually enjoyed reading). There are lots of brief essays, which is time consuming but it's not difficult to do well on them. Would highly recommend! You really learn a lot about yourself in this class!
Took this and his 301 class and he is one of the best profs I have had. Very knowledgable, the textbook is SO easy to read and actually really interesting. Very little work to complete throughout the semester, which means the tests are weighted heavier but if you go to class and understand the material, you'll pass no problem. Both awesome classes.
Test Questions and course content were not objective at all. The style of questions he asks are entirely opinion based, except for I found that he was not really asking your opinion- as you would only receive marks if you answer the question in the same manner as he would. Provided NO Direction or review prior to final - unheard of before this ..
Midterm and final were straightforward, only content covered in class was included. Once per week was an in class negotiation and the second class was lecture. The content was interesting and straightforward, and Chris was a very engaging instructor. I recommend this class by him.
Chris is the best prof I had in one of my semesters! He is very helpful and makes you work hard for your grade, he may sometime hard to please with your answers on exams but really if you read the textbook and go to class you will do fine and will enjoy his class exercises! Very little work which makes exams weigh heavier! but alright overall
If you're looking for objectivity from your professor, take this with another professor. The "right" answers are almost always left up to whether Chris liked your answer. If you play the game, you'll do fine. Has no slides, and does in-class activities so if you're a person who skips I wouldn't with this class. Nice guy but way too subjective.
Despite the content of this class being very easy and mostly common sense, Chris makes it frustratingly difficult by just docking marks for no reason. Midterms & assignments were very easy, but beware, if Chris didn't like your factually correct answer, you will lose marks with no explanation. Avoid Chris if you care about your GPA.
Dr. Street is a great professor. he has experience and good, fun stories that add to subject matter. i read some of the textbook, wrote down definitions and ended with a good grade. you normally go over what you read in the text and there is usually a test or assignment every week. the workload isn't too much and as long as you try you'll do fine.
Chris is literally one of the best profs. I got so much value from this class just by listening to his stories (that relate to the subject matter) and iterating. I'd recommend Chris to anyone. His class is truly a university class - he makes you think, put your thinking to action and journal your thinking. Great prof, great class, great value!
One of the worst professor ever i had. Project report and assignments were very tough and he wouldn't give you much marks.
Don't ever pick this class as you will certainly lose your GPA and that will impact your overall acedemic progress.
Chris is an awesome teacher. If you read your chapters and show up to lectures you will do great. This was the one class of my semester I actually enjoyed and looked forward to attending. The participation during Zoom lectures in Covid was awesome. Assignments and exams are fine if you read and take notes. He is a funny, caring teacher!
He is a all around good teacher but you have to do pretty much all the work on your own time and he marks fairly hard
CS215 with Chris has been the worst class I have ever taken. He puts absolutely no effort into the class and just reads notes that are 10+ years old form other professors. He takes forever to answer emails and has never been helpful in any of his responses. He is open for like 2 office hours per week, and his classes are completely useless.
Prof. Street is a good professor but his teaching style was not the best. Be prepared to study a textbook for hours and be tested on it with no explanation on any of the concepts until class - when the test is already due. Lots of helpful information and I really feel like I learnt a lot in this class.
He's a funny teacher who is kind of a hard-ass. Gives good feedback and promotes asking questions. He does kind of force people to present their ideas but I guess it builds confidence throughout building towards the presentation. If you are not a very hands-on/ creative person DONT take this class. Assignments were straightforward.
Professor Street was good but strict. He acted like he knew everything and had a large ego. The chapters assigned would take a long time to get through and there was a quiz before each class. Most of what’s on his quizzes were what he would talk about in the next class so good luck with them. Overall not bad, pretty average prof. Learnt a lot!!!
Worst Prof ever. Does not care about students at all. Very rude to students. Uses assignments and lecture notes from other profs. His teaching is always "on the spot", does not plan his lectures. Only has one office hour that is right before class. He does not respond to emails. He will not help you no matter how many times you as for help. AVOID.
Avoid this prof at all costs. He does not even know the material. Half of the lectures were videos made by another prof. The other half was this prof struggling to give us examples with code that is not his. He does not even know how to do a for loop. Takes him 3 weeks to respond to emails, and when he does, he never actually answers the question.
While I didn't mind his teaching, the class sucked. The biggest issue is that it isn't paced very well. The first half is easy to understand but the second half has a ton of material that isn't taught thoroughly. I feel like this class should be split into two given how much there is to learn in only a semester. Average on the final was 33%!
Rude to students. He refuses to answer questions in class and takes 3-4 weeks to answer simple emails. Does not provide feedback or support at all. He uses lectures and assignments from other profs and does not even know what is on them. Tests (which he also didn't make) are more difficult than assignments. Does not have basic CS knowledge. Avoid!
Chris Street is not a good CS teacher. It is very clear that his knowledge of the course and of CS in general is not up to par with university standards. To make matters worse, he is blatantly rude, arrogant, and difficult to reason with. I have no doubts that he might be a good business professor but he should not be teaching in the CS department.
Worst Proff for Cs215. Take class from Hoeber
Chris is a very good business prof. I liked his lectures and his helpful slides. The only thing I did not like was his pop quizzes. The final was a group project but you also had the option to do it independently. Assignments and instructions were very clear. There is no midterms as well. I would recommend him for sure.
Chris street is so awkward full professor. I recommend don't take his class. Many peoples are fail in final exam.
Did not like this professor. Did not clearly state instructions to assignments and group projects. has a huge bias towards certain people especially during group projects. Will pick on you when you present and basically say how bad your presentation is. his lectures are all over the place and he gives a lot of unnecessary examples.
Worst professor i ever met i will never take this class again
He wasn't a very good professor neither was he a bad one. I enjoyed the classes and discussions. He likes to talk and wants students to participate even when presenting a different opinion. Overall an ok professor.
Prof is awkward yet obnoxious... openly pro life and subtly sexist man. I failed the first midterm and had to withdraw so this class wouldn't bring my average down, despite studying & attendance. Class average was in the 50s and he wasn't clear about anything. Seems like an easy class at first but he is a hard and unfair marker.
got a bad mark because I got opinion based questions wrong. That about sums this guy up
Chris is a great prof and cares about your success. Despite the other reviews if you talk to him he will gladly help you out to understand the course and concepts. Midterms were hard but reasonable. He gave clear instructions for what the midterm would contain and there were no surprises. Would definitely take a class from him again.
Chris is terrible in grading. Irrespective how many hours you will put in the project, you will get only 60%. If your words doesnt match with the grading key then he will deduct the marks. Terrible instructor! Didn't show any example or didn't give any criteria of term project, and deducted marks for formatting.
He is not a good grader. I put more than 10+ hours a week in his class but still he gave me overall 65% before final. AVOID HIS CLASS AT ALL!.
Very tough at grading. Not easily available for discussions. BUsiness analytics is not that hard course. but if you are taking with chris, get ready to suffer
Dont look at positive reviews may be done by himself. Tough grader dont take 377 or either 306 with him. For 306, I heard loretta is much better.
terrible experience
Doesnt explain clearly! Reads the slide
Chris know the content to teach but I didn't like how he treats students!
His class brought by GPA down
Good lectures but he doesn't know how to grade assignment. He poorly created assignment made the whole class suffer
His opinion is biased towards some students, and he doesn't treat all the students fairly. Business faculty should conduct a detailed review on how he taught in 377.
He didn't even discuss the format of final exam in class.
Nightmare ! I am in 4th year I have never faced this kind of professor in my whole career ! He got 20+ years experience he think everyone can match his pace and challenge him. " We are not here to compete we came here to learn"
His assessment style is cruel and punishing. Vague instructions, if he even bothers to give any. Truly never experienced a teaching style like this and I hope to never have to again
Avoid his class at all. He tries to compete with student, he thinks that undergrad should hold a phd before taking his class.
Doesn't provide any instruction for term project or either final exam. If we submit terms project according to his 1 or 2 instruction provided he doesn't bother to look at it properly. For term project, it took me 25+ hours just to find a relevant dataset and after putting so much effort into it, I got so less than what I expected!. Avoid his class
Good at lecturing, but his teaching doesnt worth if he doesn't know how to assess it.
Avoid at all cost
One Word- "HORRIBLE". If you can avoid this class and do something else that can count towards your CPA pre-req's, please do so. This class is so not worth having your GPA drop low as well as the emotional and mental trauma that you'd definitely go through if you choose to stay and take this class with this particular prof. You've been warned!!
I am 100% sure that criteria for grading term project didn't exist. If it then it was applied not fairly. He didn't go through the whole report
Horrible grading. Marked assignment and term project with his personal bias
One of the worst professors I've had. Midterms are impossible to study for and are marked extremely harsh. Answers are based on his personal bias, not if you were actually right or wrong. There is the ability to gain minimal bonus marks throughout the course and trust me, you'll need them. Avoid if you can or buckle up for the ride.
Interesting lecturer and ability to gain bonus marks is nice. Grading was quite picky, especially when certain questions are opinion based. Brush up on your writing skills (thesis, concise clear paragraphs, essay structure) and you will be fine.
Avoid his 377 class. Grading was harsh
He uses his tenure as a shield/excuse to do whatever he wants in terms of grading. Mental trauma, fear for your gpa and futures, biased and unhelpful. The opposite of a TEACHER
His grading has no criteria. It seems like he skims your work quickly and slaps a random grade.
Absolutely terrible experience taking this class. Half of the in class assignments were designed to be impossible to complete in the allotted time. Grading is inconsistent and harsh. The kicker is I really didn't learn anything! Do not recommend.
All the reviews for his BUS 377 are pretty accurate. He does not have any structure for the class. He is an awful professor who doesn't know how to assess students
You do not want to take his class! Super stupid grader! Veryy biased and not helpful
Chris is a pretty cool dude, very approachable and friendly guy! Just show up to class on time, or else he'll embarrass you for being late, otherwise, his lectures are pretty interesting, exams and class material aren't too difficult, and overall a very chill and enjoyable class. He will talk about some controversial things so warning if you care.
This class is straightforward. Chris teaches well, the textbook is easy to follow, and he is very clear about what he expects on the midterms and final. Not hard to get a good grade if you follow his guidelines, and the opportunity to get bonus marks is certainly nice. Make sure you practice your writing. Highly recommend him and the course.
Not sure why his review are so negative . Was not a hard class compared to any other BUS class. He was a nice and funny. Material learnt in class was exactly the same as the test, no surprises.
Chris is alright for BUS 306. You don't need to do a bunch of studying for his class and his lectures are usually entertaining, so that's a plus. However, he was not clear about expectations going into the first midterm and grades suffered as a result. Second midterm was much better once it was clear what he wanted.
He was good at explaining things. But made scoring hard. Class shouldn't have been as hard to score as it was made. We had to buy textbook written by him. I didn't really have to use it after 1st quiz.
Plzzz never take his classes. He is very bad professor, very very rude. like seriously, if you have any doubt just google it, don't ask to him. He will response but in a judgmental way and will start questioning on your doubts.
I see a lot of negative reviews for Chris but honestly, he's a pretty good prof. The course content is easy if you have a pretty good grasp on excel since all everything is on excel. He goes through examples in class and a mock lab before the labs. The tests are all similar to the labs so it's a pretty straightforward class.
Can't believe this class costs $800. Provides essentially 0 class resources, completely skipped syllabus and went straight into directionless rambling on the first day. We are basically forced into buying a textbook that he wrote with chat gpt (substitute snitched on him to the class) just to find questions he refuses to provide us with. Nonsense
Well it's pretty hard to actually give a grade for him, considering he disappeared pretty early on in the semester for personal reasons. Anyways, there's two midterms plus a final. Doesn't like to post notes online so you're basically required to buy the textbook (that he authored and that has AI in it). Skipped a lot of classes and I passed fine.
