Awesome guy, enjoyabe class
Does not explain paper assignments well, very boring
He's a nice guy but not clear with his comments on his papers
Boring readings, boring writing assignments, boring class
hard grader, he knows what he wants, really into the readings
Very nice, and easy going guy. Classes can be boring.
I really enjoyed this class. He can be a little tough about grading, but not too difficult. Also a really great guy.
Amazing teacher that expects his students to excel. Tough grader, but this helps students to try harder and really improve their writing.
Very good teacher, shares a love for the topic with students

most helpful and caring professor i've had at BU. He is so sweet and freakin BRILLIANT and definitely loves his job. did i mention he's really helpful? my writing improved so much. HE'S GREEEAT
Great teacher who enjoys a very interesting course. Fair grader and is easy to communicate with/contact if you want advice on an essay. Highly Recommended.

He is a great teacher and really challenges his students. Very hot too!
A great guy. Discussions are engaging and he really knows what he's talking about. Really good about responding to your writing (yes, he can be a tough grader, but not too bad) and it is a guarantee that your writing will improve.
He's nice & cool. Class can be a little boring sometimes. He grades well and will help you improve.
A very good teacher. Though his expectations are somewhat high, it is all to the benefit of the student in the end. I liked his class. Definitely take it.
Grades according the standards of good writing therefore an A is really hard so A- are satisfying. Good readings, laid back style and very reasonable when it comes to handing in papers. Do a lot of revisions of papers which seem to not make any sense.
very understanding, and helpful. talk to him, go to his office hours. enjoyed the class, the readings are only semi-important, and paper comments are helpful but his penmanship is terrible.
A tough grader, but explains everything well and is always there to help you if you need it.
interesting class w/ little work based on the readings....really tries to make you a better writer
Very low-key and British. Teaches you a lot and is fair.
One of the best writing teachers I have had. He is extremely helpful with papers, comments, and corrections. If you follow his instructions you will do well and you will improve so much as a writer. He's had a really interesting ilfe, get to know him.
Very good teacher. First professor to ever aactually explain what i was doing wrong, rather than just the fact that i was doing something worng. Not British, but still nice and a Red Sox fan. repeat: NOT BRITISH.
taking war and literature right now and love it. he's one of the best teachers i've ever had. he'll rip apart your first few papers and you wont get above a B, but he explains everything so well that you will learn alot from it. take this to work hard but improve alot. good sense of humor too.
Walsh is amazing. Definitely the best and most influencial teacher i have had. He loves what he does and he loves any student who expresses interest in his field. Always there to help students in need. His grading is fair and your effort definitely shows on your final grade.
excellent professor. i definitely recommend him! he might grade a little harshly in the beginning but he gives great constructive criticism to help you improve. i was not looking forward to a writing class, but walsh makes it as enjoyable as it can be.
Awesome class! I learned a lot about writing. Easy class if you do the work/
this guy is such a great teacher. People complain about how many writing assignments he gives, but they arent that hard. i recommend him. very helpful during his office hours.....GET HIM IF YOU CAN
I LOVED this class... he i wasn't looking forward to writing before, but it was my favorite class last semester. I think i have improved thanks to him, and if it was possible i'd take the class again. VERY INTERESTING... do all you can to get him. office hrs are helpful :)
Phenomenal professor that really cares about what he's teaching. Don't be scared by his tough grading - he knows how much effort you put in. Most helpful office hours of any professor I've ever had, and he's also really funny in a subtle sort of way - you have to pay attention to get it.
really cool guy. went to africa and knows his****. WR 100 and 150 suck in themselves, but i enjoyed them with him.
Walsh was a nice guy, but too harsh with grades. Don't expect to get above a B for you final grade, unless your an amazing writer, in which case you MIGHT get a B+.
Without this class and professor I would never have been the writer I am today. He teaches you everything you need to know to write college papers. He's incredibly helpful and wants you to succeed but won't let it be a piece of cake, you have to work.
Awsome teacher, easy to work with
everyone raved about him so i took the class. the professor is full of himself, thinks he's funny, and has favorites. if your not one of them you won't like the class.
not my favorite class. the professor tries to be nice but has attitude and comes off as a know-it-all. i wouldn't take him again.
A very helpful professor and a very nice guy. I enjoy his class a lot even though I'm not much of a literary person. The only annoying thing is calling everyone Mr./Ms... makes the class more formal than it should be. Assignments are fairly easy but are often. Doing the reading isn't necessary as you read the poetry in class which is sweet.
Nice and extremely helpful outside of class. Grading is rather tough but he is fair and explains all your mistakes. Will help during office hours or you can even set up random appointments with him. I reccomend him as a professor and am taking him again for WR150.
Amazing professor for American War Poetry. You get a lot from discussion of the poems. There are a lot of papers, but he grades quite fairly. I have never recieved a grade on a paper that wasn't directly proportional to my effort. A pretty easy B assuming you do the work. You don't really have to do the readings, but why not, they're poems.
I, being a girly girl to the nth, was dreading taking War poetry. It ended up being the best class I took freshman year. Prof. Walsh is extreamly professional, and treats students as his equals. Students have a lot of say about which poems are read, and what aspects of war they focus on. Very approuchable and helpful outside of class too.
TOUGH grader but he is very fair and helps you out a lot. Very nice person and is extremely approachable. You learn a lot in this class and there's barely any absolutely necessary reading. Lots of papers, but there are a lot of chances to improve. Great teacher overall!
Prof. Walsh is the most interesting teacher I've had at BU thus far during my freshman year. He is not an easy grader for the big assignments but very helpful in hammering in essential writing tools to become a strong writer. Tough to receive an A in his class. Very helpful outside of class. Very funny teacher. Very sarcastic.
Professor Walsh is one of the best professors at BU. After having a horrible WR 100 experience, he made me feel glad to write again. While his sense of humor is a little different, he's interesting and certainly happy to teach/help his students. I wish more professors were like him.
He may seem nice, but he gives you the same ridiculously harsh grade on EVERY ASSIGNMENT regardless of how hard you work or good the essay is. He writes the EXACT same feedback to every student. Worst of all, he DOES NOT TEACH ANYTHING. Every class is wasted with completely useless blabbing and reading multiple times what he assigned for homework.
Walsh is nice, and funny with his sarcasm. Class can be boring at times (really, really boring) but your writing will improve and Walsh is always friendly and willing to help. He'll probably reward you with a good final grade if you work hard. Attendance is kind of a bummer; you're only allowed one unexcused absence.
It may be true that Walsh is a tough grader, but I learned a ton in his class. He spends a lot of time teaching how to revise papers, so you should be able to improve and get better grades by the end of the semester. He's a genuinely nice guy and he will go out of his way to help you if you just ask.
Great teacher. Tough but you'll get better.
harda** about attendance, showing up on time, papers in on time, good writing. But definitely knows his stuff.
Chris is a great teacher and certainly knows how to get his students excited about his area of expertise. His grading is tough but fair and he's more than happy to help in any way that he can. My only criticism would be the appearance of a lack of organization. This may only be a perception though. I would definitely recommend Chris.
Mr. Walsh is really easygoing, has very few requirements, and manages to keep class interesting. I didn't think I'd be too interested in war poetry, but by the end of the semester I'd had a good time. He helps you learn to revise a LOT, and requires a couple of meetings, nothing too stressful. He's a funny guy, too.
Professor Walsh is a very cool guy and a great professor. He is pretty laid back and makes the class a lot of fun- I looked forward to class every meeting. He is also very understanding about asking for extensions and he knows that writing is a process and can take a while. I learned a lot and would recommend his classes to anyone.
chill teacher, kind of a hardass about attendance. If your grammar sucks, good luck because he will probably give you a bad grade, but if you have good grammar, you will do fine. Knows his stuff, funny teacher, stickler on the grades.
Great instructor who really helped to ingrain effective writing structures in my head. Also, he's quite attractive.
Really cool guy and good professor. He took a lot of interest in my after college plans and is a genuine person who really cares about his students on the individual level. He's a fair grader and makes class a lot of fun. Not to mention he's a cutie!
He helped my writing a lot, and I thought that I was a pretty good writer entering his class. He was a little bit of a hard grader, but the reading was quite light. The topic, "Poetry of War," ended up being interesting, too.
Mr. Walsh is an INCREDIBLE prof. If you ever get a chance, take his classes! He's always very interested in the material and makes sure everyone does well. His office hours are extremely helpful too. He's nice, funny, and his classes helped my writing SO MUCH! By far the best class I'm taking this year. His classes will change your view on writing!
Mr. Walsh is a fantastic teacher. He is humorous and insightful, but his class is a lot of work. He can quickly detect bullspit, so put effort into your writing and work hard. His classes are very worth it!
There is a right and wrong answer with this professor. He's great, and very understanding, but to prove your point you need rock solid reasoning.
One of my favorite professor's of all time. Great teacher, great guy who loves what he's doing and it shows in his enthusiasm. Tough but fair grader, office hours help
Professor Walsh is an exceptional professor. You will never find a professor as passionate, helpful, and brilliant at BU.
I had Prof. Walsh last semester for WR100: The Theater Now. He's a great teacher! He's funny and laid back but extremely helpful. I definitely think he made me a better writer! He grades a little on the hard side but it's in order to push you to do better. I highly recommend taking a class with him! I still see him around and talk to him :)
This man is a saint. Extremely clear, friendly, and intelligent. Makes his expectations clear. He encourages class participation but doesn't force you into it. He is flexible with deadlines as well as he realizes people are busy with other classes. A little harsh of a grader but that's expected of WR150. TAKE THIS CLASS.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. He's really friendly and helpful, knows his stuff, and is flexible with deadlines. Hard grader, but fair. Office hours will definitely help you get better grades on your papers!
Brilliant Professor, but tough grader.
My favorite professor at BU. He knows what he is doing. Sometimes he may be unclear, but if you take the time to ask questions, he will tell you what is best. Learned a lot!
Chris gives clear, constructive and very encouraging feedback. He makes you feel like he's part of your writing team, helping you to create the best version of your paper, and giving you every opportunity to seek his help. Several one-on-one sessions per semester & Chris' easy to understand lessons really helped me get through this tough class.
He is an amazing teacher. I highly recommend his class.
Professor Walsh is a great professor who expects students to engage and converse with each other. I appreciated his clear feedback on essays that he would send to us in emails. His classes do get a little boring at some point, but overall he keeps things interesting the best he can.
Favorite professor ever! Your writing will definitely improve. He is very clear, kind, and gives excellent feedback.
Really good teacher, worth a lower grade if possible
Walsh is by far the best English professor that I've ever had. Theres a lot of readings & has quick draft deadlines. But you come to realize that there is a reason behind everything he does. You will 100% become a better writer with Walsh. He also very much engages the class and is HILARIOUS. You have to work for your grade but it'll be worthwhile.
Stop looking and take his class. This prof is DOPE. I greatly enjoyed class discussions and activities. Walsh, beyond his humor, respects each student's idea and creates a comfortable environment. His grading accurately reflects the effort you put in. Reading heavy but he never checks- it's more for your benefit.
Mr. Walsh is a great professor and a great guy. The class I took was interesting and he seems to genuinely care about his students. The class was entertaining and somewhat informative. Definitely a 10/10 course and a 10/10 professor.
Professor Walsh is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is very knowledgeable and you can tell he genuinely cares for his students. He may come off as a bit reserved at first, but you'll quickly notice his witty/ humorous nature. Definitely recommend taking a class with him if you have the chance.
One of the best professors to ever step onto campus. He always motivates you to write and gives extremely helpful advice. He is accepting of whatever you write, as long as you are trying. Grading is a little rough (Hard to get an A, most people would get an A-).
I thoroughly enjoyed Professor Walshs class. The classes were very interactive. He is a very fair grader and gives extremely useful feedback. He really cared about our learning experience. The one on one conferences were my favorite because I got specific feedback tailored to my papers. Highly recommend Prof. W!
Pt 1. COVID UPDATE: Took his American Revolution class... SO FUN! Virtual Monday and Wednesday, in person friday if on campus. Minimal homework but never graded. 4 papers but only 1 and 3 were time consuming. Great way to make friends with COVID. He is so enthusiastic, caring, and helpful! He really enjoys this class. 10/10 recommend. (see pt. 2)
Look no further! I was in Walsh's American Revolution class and it was so much fun and I learned a ton. The reading is pretty heavy in the beginning but only for your benefit. You get to play characters in the Revolution and write essays about your experience. Not too harsh of a grader and gives the best feedback. I highly recommend this class!!
Walsh made this course on Grammar actually fun--and it really helped me improve my own writing too. We dug into sentence structure and also had a "style project" that was very illuminating. A fair amount of work but really worth it.
Professor Walsh's revolution writing class was a really fun class to take. The role-play parts were the highlights of my week, and the essays themselves weren't too difficult to do well on. His 1-on-1 essay conferences were really helpful, and overall I would recommend this class if you are at all interested in the American Revolution.
Love this man. The best professor I had this semester, wants you to do well. Relatively a lot of work, but honestly it's worth it.
Take his class! It was my favorite class last semester. He is super nice, he gives you good feedbacks to your essays. The class was fun too, we played role-playing games based on American Revolution, and I learned a ton. I would say the materials could be a bit difficult, but he is accessible after class and replies your emails if you need help.
Very nice and fun class, especially because of the role-playing game/method he used. Easy grader and has a grading contract that basically guarantees a B for very little effort.
More tests than papers, making it a great option for Writing Intensive Hub credit. He teaches small sections from a ton of stuff, so you barely cover most things in detail, so this is not a super in-depth course. Tests are easy, just identifying passages. You're only allowed 2 absences, but if you communicate with him, he's happy to work with you.
In the age of chatbots, his class is a waste of time. I learned nothing, found it hard to follow his reasoning and basically just a really boring uninspiring speaker. Tough as an early morning class.
Most of my papers were graded in a way that the professor preferred, which affected my writing in classes outside of this one. I appreciated the notes and comments, but it got to a point where the expected quality of writing far exceeded every other class I've ever taken. I just wish we spent more time on analyzing poetry than on essay writing.
Easy A if you reinforce his dogma.
Misleading
Walsh may be my favorite prof at BU. This contemp fiction class had tons of reading and he requires attendance and gives lots of reading quizzes, but they made me stay on top of things, and the writing assignments were unique for each novel. Fair and funny guy
