Wonderful and interesting prof. Cared a lot about what he was teaching. Tried to make the discussions fun, was laid back and fair in grading.
A great teacher whos willing to help out those who need extra help. He was very creative in the way to presented the material. He kept it interesting so you wouldnt fall asleep.
Interesting guy. Very neurotic. A bit whacky, but he knows his stuff.
easy course, just make sure you do all the assignments.. they're really easy too. he teaches in a weird way, and he makes you think creatively. he also has a very hairy chest and likes to show it off by unbuttoning the top 2 buttons of his dress shirt.
don't know much about his classes but i know that he is way to opinionated and sucks as an advisor.
HE IS A GREAT TEACHER AND HE IS FUN AND KNOWS HIS STUFF ALWAYS KEPT MY ATTENTION ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP OUT
This professor isnt all people have made him out to be. He is witty and is decent, i wouldnt rate him higher than decent but i can say that as a grader he sucks. I'm sorry, but i've conferred with others in my class and they also feel grades poorly...
He sucks. First of all how about that lisp. And whats with the third person? Hes a tool bag and sucks at grading. You can hand in clear A paper and if ur lucky u might pull off a C+. He's be better off buttoning his shirt and taking off that blazer and those torn sneakers and walking his way back to hell, where he came from
Classes feel really repetative b/c all you do is go over & over your own work. Weekly written assignments HAVE TO BE posted on Blackboard or they don't count. They're not always mentioned in class so make sure you check it often b/c they weigh heavily on your grade. Only 3 big written assignments but it's hard to get an A if your a mediocre writer.
I had him for Honors Writing Effective Prose, and he was very effective. i suck at writing, and he worked with me to help me be a better writer. He kept dealing with me after class over and over going through my papers. Really nice if you bring him coffee for your visits.
He is nice, but gives very boring writing assignments. The writing goes through one workshop and we barely get enough feedback to edit the piece. It is way too rushed and completely disorganized- we jump from one assignment to another.
he just sucks. period. Like someone has already stated beforehand, you can hand in clear A work in which you also worked your ass off doing, and you MIGHT get LUCKY to get a C+. I had him for Writing Effective Prose, and he clearly stated that any piece he labeled as "Portfolio-Ready" was at least a B+ and i received a 'N' as my grade... RETARDed!!

I took him for critical writing I and his class had absolutely no structure. We never used the book but we had to keep working on our writing portfolios. not a bad class, but really no structure to it. didnt really think what we did was "critical" writing
I consider myself a strong writer and will eventually teach the same courses he does. I have picked up some valuable methodologies, ideas for teaching, etc. He is the first person to actually challenge me as a writer, introducing me to concepts I initially push back against because they are new and stretch my skill set. Accessible & fair. Great!
He is unfair when it comes to grades.I never missed a class, handed papers on time, received B'and B+'s did BB assignments and yet rec. a C- incredible. Don't take him if you do have to, stay away!
He can be a bit unclear at some points, but I definitely recommend taking him for a writing class. I had him for Critical Writing and Native American Lit. and I have seriously gained strong ground in my own personal writing. He's tough, but if you do the work, you can learn a lot about your writing process and style. Definitely worth it.
This was a very easy english class. We read books and wrote our opinions on them, every day we had a group discussion in class on what we read. We had to write two essays 4-5 pgs long and he also allowed you to rewrite for a better grade. I received an A in this class he grades on content not a grammar maniac.
i took him in person and online. it was like two different people. for both he is scatter brained, and unclear of what he wants. in class, he is involved and lets you go in groups for discussions. online i had no idea what was assigned, when it was due, and what it should consist of. very dissorganized. would avoid online
Interesting professor. Sometimes unclear with what he wants but if you ask him he will help. Puts you into groups in class for discussions so that makes it fun. Discussion board is due every class and you MUST complete them to boost your grade. Only graded on two papers but he helps you through each one. Enjoyed this class! Read what is assigned
Overall, he was a great professor. Every week, we were given an assignment (reading), and we posted an answer to a question on blackboard (every week). Missing more than 3 assignments was a bad idea, but we were always put in groups for discussion. He knew what he was talking about. He was also very involved. I would recommend him.
Has too strict an attendance policy. Absent five times, you fail the class - which might make sense for a harder, more intensive course, but I had an A in the class and missed my fifth session right before finals.Tough break. Other than that he was an easy teacher and a fair grader.
Overall good professor. Did not overwork you too much. Read interesting books such as Twilight, The Shining and others. Extremely nice at the beginning but getting a little annoying now. Work in groups almost every class. Attendance is mandatory!
I took ethnic american lit online with him. he was great. interesting books and always easy, but interesting discussion boards questions. two essays, pretty easy, just specific. definitely glad i took this class with him. i also met with him as an advisor once, very helpful and took a lot out of his day to help me.
Had him for intro to lit analysis. Nice guy, quirky. Some of the material was difficult to grasp. If you're a poor writer or a poor thinker, you'll bomb this class. I got an A but some nice folks got some lousy grades. He's got high standards, so dont expect a good grade just because you told him his sweater looked neat.
Prof. Weaver is actually a very nice person. But, his expectations are way too high. We had about 1 or 2 weeks to read each novel (5 total) and some of them were really long. He is a very tough grader as well. We had 2 papers, daily discussion board posts, and a final. He does help when you need it, and gives feedback on papers.
Very good professor, really interests you in the class, although hes kind of strict with attendance, overall rally good teacher
Very nice. I took him for college writing and we did A LOT of writing. He requires 5 writing projects but they aren't hard because you get to choose your own topics. There's no textbook required. He's very helpful and always has good feedback. You get 3 no questions asked absences & a final portfolio of 2-3 papers that add up to 10-16 pages
This is the worse professor i have EVER had. He is unhelpful and his grading system is a joke. The way it works is you get 2 grades, midterm and a final. On top of that you he makes a 300 word discussion board due every week, and your final grade is a letter grade lower or higher based on it. If you write 299 words on the board it doesnt count.
Worst professor you could ever imagine to have. He's very unclear and very sarcastic to students misunderstand his awful directions. I learned absolutely NOTHING about writing whatsoever. We made our own topics for papers and he never even gives us a grade. You either pass or fail this class. Don't take him, at least for college writing.
Horrible professor. I thought I would enjoy the class and I would've if he didn't teach it. He expects way too much. He gave us quizzes after reading a novel with only 3 or 4 questions so its either pass or fail. (he seemed fine in the beginning of the semester but towards the end, he just got extremely annoying.) You read some great books though.
I hate him! He's the most inconsiderate prfessor i ever had. He is evil. If you want to fail this class then go ahead and take him.
nice professor, way too much work for a seminar
All you do is write papers. Half of them are not collected and he makes you print 4 copies of everything you write which are never really used so it's a waste of paper. You have about 10 different writing assignments and he makes you make revisions on each about three times. They get posted on BB and you have to comment on each others.
He does not give grade until the end of the year on your final. He is very opinionated and sarcastic. Also gives feedback that's about two sentences long and its either pass or fail for the class. Most of the assignments are self-assigned, so basically he does nothing and gets paid for it.
I had him for my experiences in literature class and he was very disrespectful to me. He gave us way to much stuff to read in a short amount of time; he also gave a quiz every day with 4 questions and if you got one wrong it was considered failing. He's a very sexual teacher. Horrible teacher and wouldn't recommend him to not even my worst enemy.
I have no idea what you guys are talking about. If you deserve to get an A:then you will get it. Professor Weaver was very clear about what he sees as a good essay and clearly explained the requirements in order to succeed in his class. If you feel like you are not doing so well in class, it is proper to come up to the professor and ask for help
Not difficult to pass if you do all the work. The grading criteria can be very confusing, at first. Makes more sense later. Professor Weaver begins class by talking about the project and his expectations. He does not grade the writing. Rather, he gives feedback or you get group feedback. My advice: pick a helpful group. Makes a world of difference.
I loved his class. His feedback is helpful and he makes you give/receive feedback in groups, so your writing is constantly improving. I would take him again without any hesitation. There are various writing assignments, some better than others but you choose which to include in the portfolio at the end so you can really focus on what you like.
DO NOT TAKE DR. WEAVER. He does not understand that this class is taken to meet general education requirements. He picks only one genre of literature and it is hard if you have not read anything pertaining to the genre. He is not responsive at all if you have any concerns. If you find the study of literature difficult, take another professor.
Professor Weaver is a terrible grader. He looks at every little thing of your paper and points out what went wrong. However, his feedback is not thorough and he is not helpful. He also does not show any consideration for students when it comes to their abilities. The course is not made any easier for students. AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL COSTS.
Took this class over the summer, not sure if it was because the class was 4 weeks and had to be compressed or if this Prof is normally this intense. 5 books, 3 short stories, daily discussion boards, weekly rough/final papers. A LOT of work, grading is focused on every bit of detail. Take this class at your own risk, just not during the summer!
Dr. Weaver advised students to use Wikipedia to search for information relevant to an assignment. This is totally unacceptable because there are many inaccuracies. He should of just explained the concept to the class because this is teaching and students would be able to trust the information being discussed.
Dr. Weaver forgets that he is teaching a class that is meant to fulfill a general education requirement. He selects very intense books and does not teach the material in a manner that makes it easier to grasp. He needs to pick simpler texts and guide students through the material to help them complete the course.
Prof. Weaver is a "horrible" communicator. He is not responsive and does not answer questions. Also, he does not give enough notice as to what needs to be completed. The professor is also very "disorganized." He forgets to post the appropriate files, documents, and assignments, making everything very confusing for the students.
Dr. Weavers style of teaching is absurd. He does not offer any explanations to anything he teaches in class. He has to realize that not everyone likes the genre of literature he selected. Students need to be exposed to several types of literature because this is a 100-level class. Take someone else for Experiences in Literature.
Took him for Methods of Literary Analysis. Loved it. Read only 4 novels (not much), and each one required a response essay using one or two types of analysis methods we learned. No final. Guys a G. He knows American literature 20th century very well. He talks a lot, but he splits up class into like 4 groups so you can have smaller discussions.
The professor enjoys wasting students time because he assigns online assignments that are never graded. He does not explain anything about the content and does not make his assignments clear. He assigns too much material for a very short timeframe. He lacks consideration and care. SHOULD NOT TEACH AT ALL.
Took him for an online summer class. Assigned us to finish every novel in two days. He doesnt give u any feedback about ur essays, so U have no chance to learn anything or improve ur grades. He believes other students are in charge of giving feedback, not him. Makes u to watch some horror movies and doesnt care if u are comfortable with that.
If you find the study of literature difficult, take another professor. Dr. Weaver will not provide feedback and suggestions on how you can improve in his class. Students struggle with their writing assignments and often write about topics that are not familiar. RIDICULOUS.
This professor gives vague instructions for the assignments students have to complete each day. He then says the next day that students misunderstood the directions. He also assumes everyone is familiar with the genre they selected. He lacks consideration and has to realize that not everyone likes the same type of subject. STAY AWAY.
He is very unhelpful with his assignments and you are only graded on three papers. He is wasting students' time and money. Will not help in any way even if you email him stating you have difficulty with the content. Selects hard novels and stories. Take another professor that teaches Experiences in Literature. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. NEVER TAKE HIM.
Most unprofessional professor to take. Will not respond to email and refuses to provide feedback. Does not come up with any unique methods to explain the novels he selected. There are no directions for any assignment and is not fair when it comes to grading. He crams a lot of material and assumes everyone knows the material. HORRIBLE PROFESSOR.
Take Dr. Weaver at your own risk. Only assigns horror fiction for a 100 level general education class. He does not care if you are not comfortable or have not read any horror stories. The same goes fro movies because he does not listen to students feelings. Only take Dr. Weaver if you want to read this genre and be ignored. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
Worst professor. Assigns students to read multiple pieces of literature at the same time while working on more than one writing assignment. He does not elaborate on any of the selected texts. You do not get the grade you deserve because he over analyzes your work. He does not exemplify any traits of a professor. NEVER TAKE DR. WEAVER. AVOID.
Stay as far away as you can. Will not listen to and address your concerns. He is very condescending towards students because he calls you put for the smallest things and belittle you. He lacks professionalism because of his behaviors. If you want a professor who will treat you badly, take Dr. Weaver.
There is no direction provided for how an assignment needs to be completed. He over complicates everything and refuses to elaborate. He changes the direction the next day and they are totally different. If you want to deal with aggravation for a whole semester, take Dr. Weaver
You will NOT learn anything about literature. Lacks the ability to teach. Does not even try or shows interest in his job. The assignments are never explained and they become busy work. Treats the class like an upper level class and this is a general education class.
The professor will make a student feel uncomfortable because of how he grades an assignment. His feedback belittles the student and will not take their feelings into consideration. Will not read your writing and provide suggestions on rough drafts. The professor will have a detrimental impact on your college education and GPA. WORST PROFESSOR EVER.
He does not know the proper methods of conducting class online. No requirements to responding to students postings. No directions are given and nothing is graded. The only grades are three essays and this is what makes up the final grade and the grade could increase or decrease based on the amount of discussion posts missed. VERY UNFAIR.
Worst professor on the planet. No curving and his directions are awful. He lacks the ability to teach. Also lacks the proper traits a teacher should exhibit such as patience and empathy. He also needs to show respect because people like different genres of literature and some may not be as good with writing as others. Do not take this risk.
He is a very disrespectful professor. Not clear about deadlines and crams to much material. He jumps around between pieces of literature without clear transitions. He does not keep student up to date with deadlines and he changes some of the directions at the last minute. If you want to be treated in a disrespectful manner, take this professor.
Very condescending because he has no respect for students' abilities. The tone of his messages comes across as harsh because of how he evaluates each assignment. No suggestions for improvement and enjoys watching students' fail. Impossible to earn an "A" or "B" on assignment. DO NOT TAKE PROFESSOR WEAVER. DISASTER.
He deserves a rating of 0.0 for quality because he does not convey content in an appropriate manner. He tells students to use websites that are academically unacceptable. Does not review your work and is very harsh when assigning a grade. Will not help you with your writing and you will not learn a single thing in his class.
This professor will not provide you feedback on any of your essays. He believes students are responsible for giving feedback to others in their group. Therefore, you have no chance of learning anything useful that can help improve your writing skills. This is absolutely ludicrous. Think twice before signing up for one of his courses.
Taking Experiences in Literature with Dr. Weaver serves as a calamity to your GPA. He is not considerate of learning styles because he gives assignments at an advanced level. He needs to be more reasonable and make the course broad by selecting multiple genres. Also, communicate with students more and make assignments fair. Avoid like the plague.
Dr. Weaver's class is a joke. You are only graded on three papers. The final grade goes up or down a full letter based on how many discussion posts were missed as well as meeting the length requirements. These discussion posts are never discussed or graded and does not allow anyone to engage in the conversation-whole purpose of an online class.
Dr. Weaver is a professor who makes poor decisions. The pieces of literature are not appropriate for a general education class. He refuses to change his pedagogy. His explanations are not coherent and students are confused about what to do on assignments. Only take Dr. Weaver if you are into literature and writing.
Dr. Weaver's class does not give you the chance to learn anything. Does not make the content relatable. Also, he will not provide feedback during any stage of the writing process. His grading is not fair at all because he does not know how to properly evaluate the final paper. Very disappointing experience.
Most complacent professor at WPU. He enjoys watching students fail. He does not like to provide suggestions for improvement. Not flexible at all when students possess different abilities. Terrible experience and will stress you out by thinking this is the only course you are taking.
Chris Weaver is the epitome of a poor professor. He does not provide a clear syllabus. He will not provide any explanations to the selected pieces of literature. Very oblivious educator because he does not realize that he is teaching a general education course. Needs to be cognizant of how ENG 1500 needs to be taught.
Most unscrupulous professor in the English department at WPU. Does not do thorough reviews of the major papers and the feedback is inaccurate and does not encourage improvement. The daily writing assignments are never graded. There are no responses when emailing this professor. The class is a complete boondoggle.
The class is very discombobulating because he assigns so much work. They are never explained in depth. He becomes angry the next day indicating the directions are different and insinuates that students change their opinions. He does not students have a life. Assigns very long novels for a beginners class and is very adamant about changing plans.
Dr. Weavers Class will put your GPA in jeopardy. He likes to give bad grades and watch students fail. He explains new directions after assignments are due and they are totally different. He cannot set clear guidelines and makes a lot of mistakes. He is not fastidious and should not teach. His attitude is uncouth towards his students.
Dr. Weavers method of conducting class online is haphazard. He does not have any clear plans of how to appropriately teach the material to students. His assignments are ambiguous because there are no cogent guidelines. He is lackadaisical because he refuses to respond to students emails. HORRIBLE PROFESSOR.
Weaver's class would've been manageable if it weren't for his inappropriate comments in EVERY SINGLE CLASS. He quickly loses his temper at things like a student getting up to go to the bathroom or coming in 2 minutes late. This class is not our only class, he fails to realize that. The work is a-lot, but definitely do-able just do not slack!!!!!!!!
Dr. Weaver is an irreverent professor. He delivers disparaging remarks to students for their hard work. He needs to realize that students pay for the class and that they are there to learn about literature. He shows a lack of interest in literature and does not plan effectively. He needs to be methodical when designing the course content.
The professor makes a mockery out of a student's paper. He refuses to justify his explanations and discourages effort. He is the most ignominious professor that a student can take because he does not know how to grade properly. His communication skills are the worst because he displays a lack of empathy. Needs to understand each students strengths.
Most negligent professor because he does not know how to manage an online class. He ignores all students' emails and does not care about students' feelings. He needs to expose students to a multitude of topics in Experiences in Literature because this is a general education class. This is not an advanced English class.
He is an indolent professor. He does not care about your grades and effort you put into the assignment. He will not answer any of your emails if you have concerns. He has the propensity to denigrate your writing which discourages effort. Most impetuous professor to take at William Paterson University. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS GUY. THE WORST TEACHER.
DO NOT TAKE HIM.. I should have known by the syllabus this class was going to be a nightmare. I was in honors English through out HS and then taking this class freshman year made me want to cry, he has no sympathy for any assignments, gives daily pop quizzes which are impossible even if you read, and He is a VERY harsh grader for essays etc.
Dr. Weaver is an odious professor. He does not know how to speak to students and refuses to listen; he needs to help his students succeed. Shows no awareness for a students' potential. Believes this is the only class you are taking and give assignments for an intro class as if everyone is an expert in literature and writing and the hard novels.
Dr. Weaver lacks the ability to orchestrate an online class environment that is conducive to learning. The syllabus is not created properly and changes assignments and readings. The students were left confused and concerns were not addressed. The professor needs to work assiduously in facilitating student success. YOU WILL BE LOST.
In Dr. Weaver's online class, there are writing circles where you have to submit your draft to your group members and receive commentary. You also have to do the same for the other students. Dr. Weaver refuses to provide feedback on a draft which is a disgrace because he only believes that students should provide guidance. ABSOLUTELY ABSURD.
Terrible professor, never once gave clear answers on how to fix or touch up papers or drafts. Even his project requirements never had a clear view, and asked to write way to much over short questions.
Stay away from Professor Weaver. I have never encountered such a disorganized and inconsistent instructions and syllabus. The worst professor I have ever had. He is beyond arrogant and mean and only cares about his opinion. He is impossible to communicate with and has a very subjective view of English. Does not care about his students!!!!!!!!!!
Terrible. He gives too much work. FYI if you never want to have any free time than take him.
This class is definitely time consuming, assignments pretty much every day. But Professor Weaver is a great writing teacher. Every assignment (other than final papers) is graded based on if you turned it in on time and followed directions, not on how well you write, punctuation, etc. He just wants to see that you're learning, trying and improving.
I had this professor and I don’t understand all the complaints. It’s a writing class so of course you’ll have many writing assignments. Doesn’t grade on grammar or punctuation. Just write to word length and submit on time and you’ll get an A. Interactive more than most professors. Gives good feedback.
really hard to understand couldnt speak english properly, also insulted me everyday but overall a nice dude and very helpful but hes reallystrict.even locked me outside a classroom once bcz i was late, which was very kind of him.doesnt even play valorant so he sucks. dont take this class if you dont like men.overall 10/10 guy but wouldnt take again
He is just a terrible professor who has no self respect. He constantly yells at students and does not offer help to people who need it. Instead of helping students he tells them ask your fellow classmates. He is a terrible professor in general and I do not recommend taking him under any circumstance!!!!!!!!
He's a really is a nice guy. Gives an assignment every time you have class which is 300-900 words. Not an impossible amount of work is you actually try. He gives you 100 on every assignment as long as you do it. The only thing he actually grades is your final portfolio. No exams/quizzes, easy class, just a little boring sometimes.
I dont like him if i were able to curse on this site, i would he is a pain.
I am currently taking this class. Professor weaver at WPU shows no signs of empathy when it comes to grading. The directions are outdated and obviously reused. He thinks he's teaching a course people CHOSE but its just a gen ed class. He will try to pick on you and force answers out of you and he WILL accuse you of using AI. He wants you to fail.
He is very annoying when talking in class and picks on you.
The professor can be frustrating because he doesn't allow much room for discussion in class. He assigns an excessive amount of work and expects 5-6 pages of loop writing, which feels unnecessary. There's an assignment in every class.
He gives a lot of work and often piles on so much at once that it's easy to get confused about what you're doing. He's very lenient with grading—he'll give 100 on every assignment as long as it's submitted on time and meets the word requirement. The only thing he grade is your final portfolio. If you need an extension, he's willing to give it.
don't take his class. he's terrible and very very rude. he's condescending and he doesn't explain assignments properly. you will have no life if you take his class. PLEASE DONT TAKE
Professor Weaver's class has a lot of writing assignments, but the grading is lenient if you put in the effort. Unstuck ai was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. Overall, a manageable class with an engaged professor.
I don't recommend taking Professor Weaver.
Took this class online. His assignments are very disorganized and he posted assignments very late with very soon due dates. Dont recommend at all. He doesnt accept late work and its very hard to catch up if you miss even just one assignment. LOTS of writing and reading.
don't take
It wasn't necessarily a hard class; it was just a LOT of reading if you are the do-your-work type. Quiz almost at the start of every class.
I took an online english course with Professor Weaver, and let me tell you, I have never wasted more time on anything in my life. He posts assignments suddenly with very close due dates, and generally treats his students as if his class is the only one they take, and therefore they should dedicate their entire lives to it. He's condescending too.
